THE MOST AMAZING PROFESSOR EVER!!!SUPER SWEET, HOT, and JUST THE NICEST PROFESSOR YOU WILL EVER HAVE... I THINK IM IN LOVE =)
Good teacher and an easy 100.
His teaching is the best. He is a very nice professor. He always available to help students. He is an expert to make hard and boring organic chemistry become intesting and easily understood. His teaching and research makes chemistry department look good!
Really nice teacher.
really cool guy~ Althought he never let you get out early. The best organic professor!!!
Excellent teacher... never turn students away when they need help. Though u do bad on his test he does not make u feel bad but hope. Unfortunately, he is not teaching organic next semester. :(
Seriously, I wish all professors were just like him!
Definitely Professor Cesare is the BEST professor living. There was only one professor in my life that i can rack up to him. What makes him even better, is that he teaches the most diffucult undergrad course in any FIELD!
PERFECTION. DR CESARE IS GOD'S GIFT TO ORGANIC AND SJU. GOD BLESS HIM.
Funny guy and tries to make the class fun. VERY HELPFUL and never turns the students down. If you do bad on the exams, he tries to make you feel better.
although the subject is not easy itself, he tries to make it as easy as possible. very helpful and will spend time talking to you and trying to help you. i didnt have any other o chem teacher besides him but i cant imagine a better o chem teacher.
Had Dr. Cesare over the sum, - and boy was the class hard... but he made the material easier to understand, and made sure you learnt it! He's prolly one of THE best profs I've ever had, he deserves all the praise in the world... thanks doc, you da man!
Yo how can people say hes good. hes one of the worst teachers. i tried to get help and he said no. TRUST ME DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE IN PHARMACY. HE HATES ALL PHARM MAJOR KIDS. IF YOU GET HIM AND YOURE A PHARM MAJOR, YOURE ASSED OUT!! HIS EXAMS ARE HARD AND HE DOESNT CURVE.
he is the best professor i ever have!!!!
Aweesome prof! 1st test is hard, the 2nd and 3rd have the same material as the first!
He's a really good professor...always there when you need help...the material is hard, but thats not his fault, organic chem is hard. He tries to make the material more understandable and gives really good notes. Also the best looking chem teacher I've seen so far =)
All hail Dr. Ceasar - Half of our class couldnt have made it through org chem if it wasnt for him - notes are impeccable and tests are fair
he is the best!!!!!!!
we love you! the BEST teacher ever for any chem class. take himmm!
Best Chem professor Ever. A must take.
HE IS THE BESSSTTTTTTTTT
Great Professor. Unlike Grahm, Cesare gets to the point. Points out exactly what will be on exam. Gives extra points if you go to him during office hours and show interet. I got an A- in class with just a 75 average.
take if you can, graham ain't bad but ceasar would make your life more easier - less concepts to know on exams but will have reaction questions in its replacement. but take him so much nicer, and helps students out, and he is funny.
Despite good ratings from professor huggers. He's not all that cracked up to be.tells you in class whats on test but is never on it. 2nd test class = 50 avg. final = 80% of class of 63 students got lower than 70. i counted. =T my first B in a science course. I suggest Graham. Although Cesar grades very easy. Graham grades on tests period.
He is a great professor. If you want to learn organic, he is the man. Teaches you the important things and very clear, unlike Graham. Yeah his test are hard, but what do you expect, it's Organic. You want a good grades, go to him, if he sees you are trying, your grades goes up definately.
he is a great teacher, just be sure to know your notes really well...
Dr. Cesare is the BEST!!! He's fair, extremely helpful during office hours and you for certain learn a lot. He's like a legend!
Great person, great teacher. Everything on the exams are from his notes so come to class!
I have a crush on Dr. Cesare! He is by far the greatest professor i have had. Organic Chemistry is horrible but Dr. cesare seams to make you feel like you can actually do it!

He is by far the best chemistry teacher out there. Very approachable, very helpful and very easy to understand. As long as you are keeping with the readings you will pass with flying colors.
He is one of the best organic professors. His exams are fair, and the way he teaches is excellent! Very helpful if you have questions. To do well...need to study alot, come on its orgo what do you expect?
Fantastic professor with a genuine interest in teaching. Makes a notoriously difficult course very manageable. You will have to work hard to do well, but his exams are very fair and you will get out of this course as much as you put into it. If you are having trouble, he is incredibly helpful.
He is the best teacher for this course. Gives clear lectures and specifically tells you what you need to know for the exam which cuts down the extra stuff. His practice in class is helpful but he is available outside of class too. I got a 60, 85, 76 and A- as my final grade being above class avg. Study and be in class!
Blah! He's a good professor but the course is way too tiresome and hard. Believe me, take this guy if you want some kind of salvation.
He trims the fat of Organic chemistry. By coming to class, he tells you what is very importanr and what is not on the test. Overall, very helpful and willing to listen to all his students, even those that never show up to class and begin to panic when the final comes along.
i would recommend to any freshman that think he's a good teacher to seriously get your HEADS CHECKED!!! cuz he IS NOT. he is a very unfair grader. i got above the average on ALL my tests but i still recieved a D. i hear brown is a better teacher than he is. =/
he is a realli hard teacher. he doesnt teach well and is hard to understand. def dont tak him if u hav a choice!
The 2 ratings below are just saying that so students will drop out of his class so they can take him for chem 1120. He is a good professor and tries to help students out.
Very nice and extremely helpful. Jokes around from time to time. Easy grader. All negative comments are false. The best organic chem professor EVER!
Excellent teacher - I wish I had him for every class
this dude is so cool...He is very clear in his lectures. His exams are sometimes a bit tricky. He jokes around from time to time. Uses the word "SEX" to get everyone's attention when he feels everyone is sleeping..HE GIVES US 5 EXTRA POINTS FOR WRITING OUR NAME ON A PAPER AND COPYING SOMETHING OFF THE PROJECTION SCREEN!(2x/semester)
Cesare is the man. Willing to help during office hrs, 3 exams, drops one, gives extra credit if the class needs it. He gets annoyed if people talk in class, but other than that hes the best. If you wanna learn and do well, stick with him.
This guy has go to be the best chem tcher. His notes are so crystal clear that you don't even have to reread the book. Very Caring and Funny too. Only downside is that his test is only 20 questions so make sure you know your stuff.
Cesare is the man, and he is a giant!!. He just looks small from the back of the room. Organic chem especially the chem for pharmacy kids is hard in general. But Cesare made it simple, he is a great lecturer, cracks jokes, keeps class interested. Exams are doable. Must Study, Study his slides!!. Does give extra credit for attendence but its random!
For the PA and Pharmacy kids, cesare is a godsend, extremely approachable as a teacher, talk to him during his office hours, study his slides, and try to go to every class (for the extra cred which is immensely helpful). Simply put Cesare is greater than all the other available chem teachers (brown and sarra), and you cant go wrong with him.
I thought he was just a little harder than what I expected but still, he was a great teacher and very approachable. Visit him during his office hours and he'll help you as much as he can and maybe even give you some extra points. His slides are very useful but you really should go to class because he explains through his slides there.
CESARE IS THE MAN!!!!! Organic chemistry is a nightmare but this man honestly saved my gpa. He puts the slides online but going to class will really help you espeically if he sees you there. show him that ur trying visit him during his office hours HES ALWAYS THERE TO HELP!!! hes the only chem professor i recommend especially for pharmacy majors!!
Very hard to achieve good grades from the lectures. I struggled so much. He does not teach well and expects a lot. Very hard exams. Lectures go very fast. I would not recommend him.
If you can avoid this professor, do so. He is the worst professor I ever had. Gives very hard exams.
THESE people are stupidd victor ROCKSSSSS MANN hes greatttt i got A u just have to work really hardddd his test are very simplee do ableee
wow what a hottie! This class is not east though! he curves at the end but the tests throughout the semester are killerssss! i wouldn't take him again because he makes you think the class will be fun and not too hard but the tests were torture lol
Subbed for Dr. Brown. Seemed to go right with the flow, used PowerPoint, gave us real life examples. Don't see how people can hate him.
He is the best professor I have ever taken at St. John's. Class is really interesting and he pertains a lot of the information to real life. Definitely take him! Very approachable, always there to help you. He really wants his students to do well.
Took him for both semesters. VERY NICE MAN! and VERY APPROACHABLE! Go to his class, talk to him, show that you are working hard, and get fairly good scores on tests (its ORGO! You have to study) do good in lab, online hw and you are all set to AT LEAST get a B+, obviously extra effort would get you more :) RECOMMENDED!
Prof. Cesar is the best !! Its organic chem .. so dont expect this class to be an easy A .. but he explains the material so well !! His tests are doable .. sometimes tricky, use the book for reference. I love him ! He's so good !!
great prof and very helpful
Organic Chemistry is a difficult subject but I really believe that Dr. Cesare makes it as easy as its going to get. No matter what you need to study. He curves at the end of the year which is partially based on improvement. Try to keep your momentum going throughout the semester and keep up with the studying.
Dr. Cesare really knows o-chem. What I really liked was how he tied o-chem into everyday life. He is so funny and has such a pleasant demeanor. And he is a big sports guy which is another plus.
Tough course, but Professor Cesare tests fairly and is very accessible for extra help or a talk. Really cares for students and not just a robot trying to get through the lecture. Gave a 5 min talk on being proactive, not going with the flow, and not settling for average that got me motivated out of my slump. You won't regret taking him!
had Cesare for both orgo 1 and 2 and this is not an easy course at! pretty sure the curve at the end is the only thing that helps me in the entire course. have online homework due at least twice a month and 2 tests and a final no recitation which doesn't help! you have to teach yourself alot and use the textbook!
This professor tries hard to make organic chem. fun. He helps in every way possible but honestly, there is no hope. His tests are HARD! there is no point going to his class because all he does is read from his powerpoints, which aren't that clear either. You're better off reading the textbook.
Awesome professor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! his test is tough but as long as you come to class AND listen to what he has to say you'll do well. Also reading the textbook is mandatory, his tests are hard but as long as you spend every possible minutes on his question, you'll be ok.
This class is called the "weed out" pre med course, He plays favorites which just makes it harder.. so if u want to pass this class with above a C, even with low test grades (40s-50s)... be on him 24/7
He is a good professor. You must practice a lot of orgo questions in order to do well in his test. You also must study hard in order to do okay in his tests. His exams are reasonable but his final exam was extremely difficult. Overall I am satisfy with my grade. Pretty sure he curved the final grade though.
He is a good teacher but exams are very tough - you must study and study. I was an honors chem student and I had lots of difficulty. Do not count on a curve - you must do practice questions. However, he is the nicest guy. EXAMS HAVE NO PARTIAL CREDIT!!!
He teaches directly off PowerPoints, so you will need to teach yourself organic chem out of the book. This is entirely do-able; take his advice to heart and do as many practice problems as possible. This is the "weed-out" class, but it is a great opportunity to separate yourself from the pack. 3 exams and online homework for every chapter.
His tests are not that bad just do all the practice problems. In class, he'll say this will be on the test and guess what its on the test!! Very nice, approachable guy!
He's very helpful and his lectures are understandable if you read before class. Tests are harder than he makes them seem..... he doesn't curve
Tests are tricky. Write down everything he writes in class, especially the examples. They WILL show up, verbatim. And though he says he doesn't curve, he does. I should have gotten a C, but I got an A-.
attendance is not mandatory but it is extremely smart to go to class. students say organic chem is tough but if you pay attention, understand, reread your notes and do the practice problems in the textbook.. you will understand it. tests are 25Q multiple choice and all are questions are derived from what you learned via notes. class is very doable
this was an intense class. I felt the exams were designed to make you fail, class average was consistently a 50 if not lower, students were studying on a day to day basis as well as attending tutoring center and it was NOT helping. I am praying that somehow i will do well on the final tomorrow and hope this professor will have mercy on us.
He's..a good professor. I took him a while ago during the summer and he was very clear in teaching the material. However, be warned. This is orgo, a notoriously hard class, and his exams have very tricky questions. So do not be surprised if a bunch of people fail. Study, study study. Pretty sure the curve at the end is the only thing that saved me.
Had him for both semesters. Like most people said, he is clear in teaching the material, but this class was so stressful its not even funny. He made exams more harder than they should be. He's a good professor and always there to help, but his exams are too hard. Class average = 60's. Studied so hard only to barely pass. It's orgo. Study. A lot.
Took him for both orgo 1 and 2. Orgo is not an easy class, we get that, no point blaming him for that. He tries his best to make the material as interesting and easy as it possibly can get. Very nice and funny. Just make sure you put your all into this class, cause its not easy. Despite my initial impression, I ended up loving him and the classes.
Took him over the summer and he is a fantastic professor, though you really need to know your material inside and out. His exams are hard, but doable. I didn't exactly do that well, but I truly believe he is one of the best chemistry professors at SJ. My advice, study till you get knocked out and ask lots of questions. Great guy and wants to help.
This professor makes extremely difficult exams. You must study his power-points very well. Also study what he says will be likely/guaranteed to be on the test. He is very helpful and his slides are crystal clear. Ask him for help and he will give it to you. Also you must do practice problems from the textbook! It will really help for exams.
Learned so much from this guy. He is def takes chemistry seriously and the students should also. Powerpoint's were very useful. Practice text questions. He's always there to help. Test are mediocre in toughness, he tells you and emphasizes what will be on the test. Must study and review material, not memorize. Understand what is going on.
Went to every class, took notes...that did not help one bit. By the way, his examples are useless-they never show up on the exams. Expect exam questions to be 10x harder.
People think he's a hard professor, but I think a lot of people are lazy. Class isn't mandatory, but it is very helpful. You do need to read the textbook, and do all the questions to really understand the question. But he's one of the sweetest professors you'll have. He means well and wants you to truly learn, rather than memorize.
Great professor. Knows what he is talking about. Exams are challenging but are similar to the examples on power points. You do have to study and understand the reactions and mechanisms if you want to do well in class. Do the practice questions from the book, he also tells you what material will not be on the exams.
Reads from slides so you need to do a lot of self-studying. Test averages50s to 60s. never gave practice exams. While he says this is on the test, it ain't really on the test instead, the test is 10 times harder then expected, no matter how much u study. but since this was the only teacher available as the original one was off to vacation.
Man you wanna get an A in Orgo then take it! you might not learn a lot but hey at the end you rather have an "A" without knowing that much or a "C" with some knowledge in chemistry (Graham) I rather see an A- in my transcript, plus his curves are hugeee!!! take him!!!! I ended up with an A- somehow lol in both semesters!
Orgo is not a easy class and Cesare knows it. Show up to class because he tells you exactly what you need to study for the test. Without his notes you'll be lost on the test. Study the online homework or back of the text book questions. He tries to help everyone pass but ultimately your grade is on you and how much work you put in.
Orgo is NOT easy. You REALLY have to work for it no matter the professor. He can teach you the basics in class but you NEED to go over it pretty soon after. Always study a couple of days to a week ahead of the test. Definitely need to understand instead of blindly memorize. 1 online HW per chapter. No attendance but should still SHOW UP TO CLASS!!
Not many tests, went to class once. Got a D because 20 question tests on heavy material.
Dr. Cesare is a good professor, but it is going to take a lot more than his teaching to do well in his class. He reads right off the powerpoints, but does tell you what you have to know for tests (only problem is when they appear on tests it's 50x harder). He has office hours, but seems like he doesn't want to be there. This is a difficult class!
Went to class everyday for orgo I and II, stay on top of the textbook chapters. They'll help iron out the little details and might even make it easier. He doesn't offer extra credit except for a one question easy five point quiz for the final. Study hard and by that I mean know all the little details, his tests can get specific
Definitely try to take Cesare, his exams are just like his notes which he gives out. All you need to do is study his notes and read some of the chapters from the textbook and you are good to go
He has office hours but you can tell that he doesn't want to be there. He rushes though his powerpoints so you'll have to do a lot of studying on your own. Orgo is a very tough subject so make sure that you're studying every week. There's online homework for every chapter and it's important to study those specific questions for the test.
Reads directly off the ppt's. Did nothing to the students that he KNEW had cheated both semesters. Instead, he punished all his 3 ORGO classes by making the final insane and removing the so called "curve" he promised to give. Writes NASTY emails at the end of the semester threatening he will not change your overall final grade- he'll even lower it.
Took him spring semester. Got an A on the first exam then a C on the second. Told me if I do well on the final I'd get an A. Made the final harder and many were cheating and did not take action for. Everyone else suffered and ended up C- in this class. Sent out an e-mail cutting off anyone who wanted to review the final after the semester ended.
Get atleast a B on the tests and the final and you'll be golden with an A.
Lectures are fine, homework is fine. Study early and you'll understand everything but when test time comes, you'll feel as if you know nothing. Tests are ridiculously difficult. 25 questions so each is 4 points. I studied for weeks on weeks only to get a C.
Okay Cesare is a very nice guy in class but all he does is reads off the slide so attendance is not 100% mandatory. As for the test they are difficult at times and really tricky but are manageable if you study 3 months straight before lol. IF he CURVES i would love him for the rest of my life tho. See that's another thing you dont know if he will!
No curve this semester, ruined the transcripts of so many students who expected his usual curve. He's ridiculous.
I studied weeks before to prepare for the exams then when I took the test i had no idea what was going on. Went to his office hours and he doesn't seem to care about if you're passing or not. Not nearly enough help was given. Rate my prof says he curves but the class average for exam #2 was a 52 and no curve was given.
Organic Chemistry is a hard subject already no matter what professor you have. Overall cesare was a good professor. He reads right off the PowerPoints which can get boring but he tells you exactly what's going to be on each exam. I ended up getting two letter grades higher than what I was suppose to get. It definitely helped my gpa.
OK look, you either cheat or study for day on end to get a decent grade in his class. He lies a lot, he promised a big curve after the second test and then the curve was miniscule. If your taking orgo at sju your best route is to take brown thats your best chance at an A. I took cesare 2 semesters btw
Orgo is a hard subject in general. The tests are hard and the class average is always low. The curve at the end is what either makes or breaks your grade. Cesare promises a better curve than he actually gives. It's a tough class but the other professor isn't any better.
Orgo is a difficult subject in general. The tests are hard and the class average is always low. The curve at the end is what either makes or breaks your grade. Cesare promises a better curve than he actually gives. It's a tough class but the other professor isn't any better.
Organic Chemistry itself is such a tough subject. Going to class helps with what notes to focus on or to exclude, but you also HAVE TO do a lot of studying on your own. Doing problems at the back of the chapter helps, but he does not give any practice tests beforehand. He does give a pretty generous curve, but his tests are difficult & tricky
He made me actually enjoy orgo. I recommend sitting directly in front so he gets to know your face. I never went to office hours but heard it's beneficial. 2 tests and a final the tests are hard and class averages are around 50 but he uses online homework and back of the tb questions. I would study the day before and get 80s. He also curves.
Cesare is an okay professor. Attendance is optional, but in class he does tell you what you do and don't need to know for the tests. Gives minimum hw. 2 exams and a final, they are very difficult. What ever average you end u with he will cure by 15-20 points.
Orgo is a hard class and if you don't work enough he can't help you. He's a good teacher, but not a magician. He seems very strict, but he's actually a nice guy. Got 80s on midterms and finished with an A.
I had a 4.0 GPA & I am not a slacker. I studied HARD for this class! Cesare's a nice guy but he's not the best professor. Orgo is a hard subject & Cesare reads off the slides so it doesn't help but you HAVE to go to class to get what's going on. He def fakes these reviews. Class average was 50s but he curves if class average at the END is below 75.
Lectures: explains and gives examples, skips some topics Homework: MasteringChem, gives 10-20 problems but create a groupchat with people in your class, help each other out Extra credit: may give a curve at the end of the class to boost final grade Exams: Q's are from HW and back of chapter Q's from textbook (library) USE KHAN ACADEMY TO STUDY!
Awesome teacher . Best teacher for organic chemistry as he'll work and try to make you understand the confusion towards orgo. better than graham, lukeman, and other professors. gives good feedback as well. if i were given a chance to repeat stereochem, i would like to learn more . thank you Dr. Cesare.
Really good professor. Let's get it straight: orgo ain't easy to understand at first but if attempted to try the material and understand the basis and why it happens is very important. He is willing to help if you make attempts to at least try it out, he ain't there to bite you or anything. He already tells you what is mainly on the exam so study.
Very unresponsive to emails, and unwilling to give answers to practice exams. Class average are usually 50s. Take another professor to save your GPA, because he is honestly a horrible professor, who seems like he doesnt want to be here or teach. Its ridiculous. I honestly dont know why there are two Orgo professors, because Cesare cannot teach.
Good professor, but orgo is tough and you have to study a lot. Going to class is not mandatory but it's better if you go. Online homework every other week, which you just have to attempt to get full credit. He doesn't curve the single exams but the overall grade at the end. Do the online HW and start studying a week before the tests to get an A.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! EVER!!! His finals are impossible!! HW is also unhelpful. Signature phrase "if you saw this on the test, would you be able to do it?" He knows damn well you cannot. Whomst mans. But for real, please save your GPA.
Tests are impossible. Reads off the powerpoints with little explanation and doesn't do much to help you understand reactions rather than just memorizing . If you're very self-motivated and good at teaching yourself you'll be okay, but otherwise you're better off with another professor. A lot of his students fail and class averages are very low.
You have to be willing to practice the things he shows you in class. He tells you to do back of the chapter questions and they really do help. Go to class and take notes on what he says will and will NOT be tested which crosses off a lot of the slides. Minimal HW, practice using the textbook!
Cesare the man. One of the nicest guys in the department and is more than willing to help you. Exams are tough but there will more than likely be a curve at the end of the semester. Funny guy too, enjoyed his class.
he does not teach well and the tests are impossible to do. he gives no time at all to complete them and requires so much for each of the questions. it is an extremely hard class and getting a decent grade is impossible. he does not curve or help the students.
He's good at teaching, but do not expect an A without studying hard. AND he does not curve. I got over 80 on all his exams and got a B because he did not curve at all. I was expecting a better grade. But oh well. If you are expecting a curve do not choose this class.
the tests are extremely hard and only 55 mins for 20 questions that require a lot of work. he does not understand it is a hard class that takes time to understand especially when it is not taught well. makes gpa suffer because his tests are ridiculous
Cesare is a really nice Professor. He literally tells you exactly how to study for his exams. Do the questions in the text book after each chapter and do the homework questions and youll be fine. He repeats questions and he tells you in the lectures what to look out for on the exams. He replied to my emails in minutes with any concerns I had.
Doesnt curve. Tests are extremely hard.
It was a decent class but improvements can be made. He didn't give too much work but doesn't give enough time for his online exams. He also doesn't give back an answer key so you can see what you got wrong on tests. Sometimes he grades a question wrong on accident but instead of emailing the whole class, you only find out by emailing him first.
took natural product course
Honestly, if you put time into his class and actually study a lot, you will do just fine. Organic Chem is as hard as it is, but with some extra effort you'll do fine.
there is hw every week and lectures were recorded to watch on your own. the tests were 20 mc and they are not easy as orgo is hard.
Professor would post slides by Chad Snyder PhD and simply circle things. He was the kind of professor that you could tell wouldnt curve/give extra credit during a global health pandemic. His voice also sounds like Ray Romano
Taking organic in summer is hard so I recommend this class if you don't mind taking one year of school in two very very rapid months. I don't think I've exhaled since May. If you are in this class, buckle up because it's a long ride. Cesare is straight to the point, but he's always there to help you so don't be afraid to talk to him.
WORST CHEM PROF! Orgo is hard but he does absolutely nothing to help out his students or prepare them for any exams. There are 2 midterms and one final, homework is only 5% so you really need to do well on the exams. Class average hasn't moved up from 40% after 2 exams, and he cancelled 3 consecutive classes before the final. HE WON'T CURVE EITHER!
The curve blessed
hes prob not the greatest at teaching but the curve was immaculate and people that didn't really deserve A's got them. there are 3 tests including the final (all multiple choice) and hw which is so easy bc u only have to do half of it to get full credit and the rest of your grade is lab. if you actually stay on top of the material on you'll do good
Great professor. The class is graded by 3 exams, hw is posted after every chapter and you only need 50% to get the full credit, and a lab that counts for this class. He does extra credit attendance "quizzes" where you just write your name. He curves the final grade based on how students do on the exams.
does not care about failing you
Mixed feelings. Decent at explaining but his tests, especially the second and the final, were really hard. I got the feeling he kind of expected us to understand like he does like he hasn't been doing orgo for like 30 years. IDK that may just be an orgo thing rather than a him problem. Also curve wasn't as blessed as some people made it sound
He's pretty chill and the class itself isn't bad. That being said, your grade is going to rely heavily on the class average. From past reviews it seems like he curves well, and for this semester it was ok, nothing like previous reviews. He does highlight the topics for you to study, but his lecture alone isn't enough to learn. He's inconsistent.
BEWAREEEE!!!!! This class is difficult itself and he makes it harder. Getting a tutor is mandatory. After the first test, he said to expect to get at least 20 points less on the next exam.
Prof Cesare is a very nice person but his tests are unnecessarily difficult. None of the chem prof at st johns are good but id take him again bc he curves heavy and is very nice
Horrible professor. If taking orgo 2, take someone else if possible. only 2 tests and final exam affect your grade!
very nice person, but his teaching...very bad. a tutor is mandatory. he curves A LOT, there are students that without the curve, would have got a F/D but ended up with a C. orgo is very diffuclt so honestly its up to you to study HOURS a week!!!! if not, absolutely no chance of passing his exams
In general organic chemistry is a difficult class but he's a pretty good prof its just up to you to keep up with material. two exams and a final. The final is cumulative and more difficult than the two exams so make sure to study in advance. Doesn't curve exams, sometimes gives little credit for attendance but he curves your average a lot.
I'd rather take Cesare than Graham. For HW you just need a grade of 50% and he'll count it as full. There's three exams and the final is cumulative. Go to his office hours if you have any questions. He's a really nice professor and will try his best to explain if you need help.
His tests r not bad. just do hw q's and back of textbook q's because they will be on the test. also i recommend going to class because he tells u what's on the exam. the first exam had some stuff from orgo 1 like isomers and knowing which H is acidic. the same nmr, c13 and ir q from the hw was on the test.
The class is challenging, but with some effort and tools like Unstuck ai, you can ace it. Cesare has a specific teaching method, but engaging with it pays off. Attend class, use the textbook, and you'll do well.
I'll be honest, his tests aren't as bad as people on here make it seem. They are challenging, yes, but if you study sufficiently, then the "hard" questions become easy. His lectures are boring, but show up because he specifies what's on the test or not. My advice, review the chapters weekly to stay on track because its very easy to fall behind.
Orgo 2 is not an easy class so make sure you study at least a week before each exam. Make sure you do the textbook questions (if you can do those the exam will be easier), attend lecture bc he tells you what is going to be on the exam. Sometimes he gives attendance quizzes..nice guy and always available during office hours and email!
Take this guy. He's tough, but so is Orgo. I got a C because I myself did not do a good enough job studying. The key with him - back of the textbook problems and showing up to lecture. He goes over what will be on tests and what to expect.
This class is awful—I don't understand the high ratings. The professor refuses to self-reflect despite the class average being 30–40%. Instead of improving his teaching, he blames the students. It's frustrating and unprofessional. We're here to learn, not to be scapegoats for poor instruction
In lecture and homework, things seem clear—then the tests feel like he mischievously makes them harder just to trip us up. He once went over a “fairly easy” test question and got it wrong four times himself. How is that fair? It's like he's setting us up to fail instead of helping us succeed.
Is laid back in a very bad way. The exams he makes are unnecessarily hard. I get its Orgo 1 but it gets to a point where he expects us to be at his level of understanding of 30+ years of the content from just studying alone. Unless you lock in, your grade on the 1st exam ultimately determines how you'll do in the class from then on.
He makes exams harder than they should be, most of the organic chemistry knowledge needed to obtain a grade that will suffice on the mcat. dat, pa-cat etc is not as thorough as the content he tests us on.
You're graded on 3 exams, lab, and 5% homework. He gives extra credit (3 pts on an exam) for attendance. His lectures are confusing and outdated, and he goes too fast. Exams are hard for no reason, but grading is clear. Homework is easy but annoying. He cares and knows his stuff—just use tutoring or YouTube to keep up.
He's not as bad as I thought. Very sweet and laid-back guy who goes through the lectures at a relaxed pace (at least for me, although others may find his pacing too fast, which is fair). He says he doesn't curve, but trust me, he does. Homework is online, but it's tedious. The exams are fair game because many questions are from the homework.
I had him for OCHEM 1 as well. His exams are pretty difficult but he gives extra credit on exams for certain days when you show up to class (attendance isn't mandatory). Homework due every sunday, need atleast 50% on hw and he'll give full credit. Chill guy overall, he curves the class average at the end of semester depending on how everyone did.
