He's the BEST teacher EVER! I had him for 141 made sure I got him for 142 and I am glad I did! Simply because he has taught me a lot. What he says is interesting, he's funny, and caring towards his students. By far my favorite teacher. Thanks Mr. Chavez for being a WONDERFUL teacher!!

Great class, his lectures were intresting and his quizzes were very simple. He didn't assign too much homework, just two papers that were pretty straightforward.

Professor chavez opened up how the world really is. His lectures are applied to present time even though he does talk about history. He is a great motivator to strive and get higher degrees, and not settle for less. I would recommend this professor who is willing to have an open mind. If not you will probably be bored and frustrated.

This online class requires you to keep up and sign on frequently but cool thing is he emails every week to remind you of all work due which is great but he does give quite a bit of work for a quarter class. Really good teacher! Took the class online. At first, I thought the class was going to be really hard because the teacher said that he was going to drop anyone if the first couple of assignment weren't done on time but if you follow all the deadlines and read your book and participate in the discussions, you'll be fine.

Just got done taking him online. I got an "A" and felt his class was overall VERY easy for being a fast track online class. You have to take very easy quizes each week, write one 4-6 page critique on "Defending Slavery" (a book), and make 2 discussion board posts. As you can see not a lot of work, and you don't even have to fully read the books!

I believe Chavez is a good professor. If you keep in contact with him about any questions he does answer you back. I think since it was an online class, it's up to you to be productive. If you are not productive then online courses aren't for you. Start the book critique early! It'll creep up on you if you don't.

He was a great teacher and he graded the reports fairly. But make sure you read the chapters before taking the test, they are not easy. I did very well with all of my reports but the test are what braught my grade down to a B. I recommend him if you want to learn and will do the work. Good teacher

Victor is super passionate about his course! Yes, he does brag about his kids but trust me, they are geniuses. I went to school with his daughter and she was Einstein. He has a right to brag. I took Chavez for History 100 and 101 online and would take more classes if he offered them! Easy A. Plus he gives great feedback. Always responds to emails quickly. No exams. Just small discussion boards. 2 easy papers. Never used the books or needed them. Quizzes online are super easy too.

I would have gotten an A if I tried harder, so be prepared when you take his class. He gives out weekly assignments which are usually short essays about 4-5 for the semester. These essays are about 10-30 points each. Ch tests 10-30 points each. And a major essay 100 points so READ the assigned book. He also gives extra-credit. Good Luck!!!

OK, this is the real skinny on Chavez. HE IS THE BEST!! I got a B but thats because I submitted my work late! he wants: 10 (truefast) tests using the text; 4 small essays (3 paragraphs) using the text; and one BIG final paper (5 pages) worth 100 points. He uses only 3 books . TAKE HIM AND GOOD LUCK--HE IS THE BEST!

Chavez is very punctual about getting back to e-mails and his syllabus is nicely organized. This was the toughest online class yet. Some of the assignments were unclear and it was difficult to understand exactly what he wanted. The hardest thing was not getting your grades back on an assignment before the next one was due. Tough A, but possible.

Yes! I took Chaves in fall 2014. He set me straight. I followed the lead of the incompetent counselors at SWC and I was planning to go to San Diego State but Chaves told me to transfer to UCSD! Yes! Yes! Yes! It was my first online class so I met with prof chavez once a week to make sure i survived it! He was charming and knowledgeable. My wife recommended that I take him so I did and it worked out great! More importantly chavez "told" me to transfer to a UC school for a better education, yup! I am now transferring to UCLA! Hooray!

Do your work, be on time & asked for help early on and you will get an A. This professor makes time for his students so there is no excuse! Great guy who truly loves what he does. .very into it! There are only 3 tests which are not cumulative.

If youre looking for a chronological history of Mexican American history this really isnt the class for that. He details how the ma has suffered at the hands of the Anglos. he lets his feelings get in the way of his teaching at times but overall great teacher. simple rules dont talk in class and read the material he gives. no reason not to get a B

Met with Dr. Chavez on Saturdays and Sundays to discuss assignments. Wow! What teacher gives up his weekends for students? He is good but get reading to write one paper on Hunger of Memory and about 4 true/false tests. Also, he uses Blackboard for class discussions. So long as you visit him you will do great!

If you take Professor Chavez class be ready to get your mind blow away!!! I never liked history before but he gets into character while narrating history that transports you back into time. there are two books to read, and you have to write one book review at the end of the semester. he offers a lot help, take his class you will love it.

I took his online 8 week course. I really liked it. There was 3 DB's, 1 book critique, and 4 tests. That may sound like a lot but it really wasn't. There's a lot of reading each week, (although I barely read and got a B). He's big on grammar and sentence structure and will mark you down for it if you make mistakes.

I like Dr. Chavez History 100. This was a short 4 week class. Chavez had to speak a lot because the class was very short. But I had him in other classes and he has group studies and movies. Great online class. He used 3 books and had 4 discussion boards, 1 paper, and 4 objective tests. He also gave extra credit if you visited him on campus. Great teacher. Students who complain failed the class. Just do to the readings and go see him in his office. take Dr. Chavez!

Wow! This class was amazing! Professor Victor Chavez is a very intelligent man that teaches with passion. His class was inspirational and he really wants to see you succeed. Attendance is not mandatory if youre able to do all the reading and understand everything. I would take his class again if I could.

Professor Chavez is a real gentleman. I visited him in his office and he was patient and understanding. I wish all teachers would act like him: very, very, positive and professional. Professor Vic Chavez is a very good man. He can seem harsh at first but he fully cares about students and if you pay attention you will learn a lot and succeed. This was the second time that I took Chavez and I would take him again if was not transferring to a university in the fall.

Professor Chavez is a decent professor. Although his feedback is a little bit too harsh, his class is manageable if you are willing to put the work in. He provides free textbooks which is a plus, he is an easy grader, would recommend if you are looking for a easy A.

Few assignments that are graded heavily and textbooks are free. Prof can come off as rude at times, but I have a lot of respect for him. Your critical thinking skills and your writing skills will certainly develop in his class. This is what makes his class difficult. Only take Chavez if you are willing to put forth the effort. I wish I had taken my other history class with him. He gives you a month to do most of the homework which is a 1500 essay and four quizzes on the reading book. There are like two or three other tasks but very easy.

Not super descriptive about what he wants for essays, but great lecturer who taught us not only the history but life lessons too. He truly cares about his student's success in the real world and taught us things that opened my eyes that I'll always remember.

Take Chavez but make sure it is Victor Chavez and not Victoria Chavez, two different teachers. Victor was great. The online class was direct: reading, open book tests, some discussion boards, and one final paper. Do the reading and write your paper and you will do good.

I took this class online and there was no textbook needed. The work-load was pretty heavy with reading. You are basically reading and working on for the final. The final is a paper about 8-10 pages long with a word count of 2500 if I remember correctly.

He is a very good professor, if you have test anxiety or any type of learning disability, he does not time quizzes or any assignments! One thing about his class is that you need to read your required readings. A huge warning is that it is a lot of reading! All of his assignments are DUE THURSDAYS, and he does NOT accept late work AT ALL.

There is a midterm and a final paper worth a lot of points make sure to set aside time to read the texts he provides, gives a lot of feedback on assignments if needed but was nice enough to boost my B+ to an A.

Take him. Yes, it's a good amount of reading, but just read a little each week and you will be fine. You can tell he genuinely just wants you to learn and be more open to different ideas. You try your best on your papers and submit all the work and you'll be fine. :)

Lots of writing for a history class. Wrote and read more for history than english. A lot of reading and research, you have to read though because it's for mid-term and final. Writing criteria is strict but easy. He will give you feedback on everything. Takes up a lot of time.

Easy class, but it is online. Assignments are clear and he will respond to questions if asked. Low amounts of assignments but they are a lot of work. Class is basically 2 discussion posts, and 2 papers, very time consuming and requires you to actually read the text assigned, which he does not tell you what chapters. Okay class but you are on ur own

I visited him in his office and he was very kind and very supportive. His readings were great! Wow! Learning about businesses having rights like people was surprising....take him!
