He is horrible. Gives 4 tests and 3 assignments and 1 group project. Will not post slides before class. Tests are to hard. Ex. last test got 31 grade curve gave me a 71. Gives pop quizzes. Tests impossible Do not take unless you have to!
I took him and he is REALLY HORRIBLE! I have never had such a vindictive, paranoid teacher. I would take a required class at another school if he were the only one teaching it rather than to take this teacher. I have never met a worse teacher!
He is very detail oriented, such that in tests expect to know lots of small details. The final is not cumulative and the rest of the tests are broken up in 4, so that there good chances to do reasonable.
Very hard tests, have to study EVERYTHING!! Open book doesn't help, book examples doesn't help, class examples doesn't help...really you are on your own. If you did well in Data Comm or Comp Architecture you'll do well in this class.
If you are not a Computer Science major: DON'T TAKE THE CLASS! at least not with this professor. Others be prepare for a class/material that is difficult and with a professor that expect you to be a "network" guy at the end of the semestre. Note: The people that do well in his class, are the one "re-taking" the class (Usually half of the class).
Worst class I have ever taken. He is a very good teacher but the test are not really fare. They are so bad, that the average was 45 on one. Do not take this class unless you are looking to have your face kicked in on all test. I like him as a teacher, but his tests take away from class. Do not take unless there is no other option...
I give him a C for tests. I give him A for teaching. Give him A for knowleage
I think Dr. Clancy is very serious about networking and teaching. He have fairly high standards for students. I personally don't have a problem with this. Some of the reviews on him are pretty misleading I feel. I would definitaly take him again. I had him for both 2520 and 4500.
Hes smart and good at explianing the topics. Lets face it, 4500 is a hard subject compared to my other classes. He could provide more time in completing projects.
hard class, but good instructor, the man will make you learn, thats the whole concept of college. Good job!! prof Clincy
Not very clear when answering questions. Was absent for half the semester. Curves grades.
Very intelligent in the subject of Data Comm, however his test have nothing to do with the book or the class. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! Out of 88 people 75 dropped the class
LOL... d only good thing bout Clincy is that ur destiny is in ur hands in the class! His curve after tests r 2nd to NONE! D whole class has to work 2gether 2 pass, y'all just need to generally NOT do good & he'll curve thru d roofs! He handles class like a grad. course, too intelligent for undergrad. & expects u 2 know d stuff already! I made a B b
he teach for the people who knows about protocols, if you want to lean read the book and be ready, he is not a good teacher TIP look for the previous test he is so lazy he never change them.
Dr. Clincy is by far one of the top Professors in CSIS dept - his knowledge of networking & computer architecture is deep - I had him for 3150, 2520 and 4500. He doesn't waterdown the classes but he curves the grades. I would take him again
These reviews' re-occuring themes of "he teaches well" and "he is knowledgeable" - are all true. I agree with a previous reviewer, DON'T be mislead by some of the negative reviews, the courses this Professor teach are some of the most difficult courses in the entire degree program. If you are interested in learning, take Prof. Clincy.
Prof. Clincy is definitely NO nonsense and takes networking seriously - probably certain students won't like that - I do, I am seeking knowledge. I give him an A for knowledge and an A for teaching ability. I would give him a B+ for exams. I would take him again.
By a large margin, Prof. Clincy is the WORST teacher I have ever had. The tests are completely irrelevant to the book. Average grade on his tests is a 35. Canceled class 2 consecutive days before test, but still administered the exam (on two separate occasions). On the days "Dr." Clincy actually did attend, his grammar interfered with learning.
He knows his stuff, however he should not ever teach. He does not know how to teach, he could give presentations at a meeting and right his millions of books but don't expect him to explain to you how to do problems that will be on his test. If you want an A I don't suggest this teacher, the average grade on the first test was a 35.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU CAN HELP IT! ABSOLUTELY NO USABLE INFORMATION COMES FROM THIS MAN'S MOUTH. STEER CLEAR UNTIL THEY FIGURE OUT WHAT SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN CSIS 2520 CLASS!
Absolutely, without a doubt the worst professor I have ever had the displeasure of knowing. His tests are ridiculous. His lectures useless. He offers no help when queried. And he revels in making students look stupid in class when they ask questions yet he requires class participation. I will never take another class from him again.
This professor is NOT easy but that doesnt mean hes horrible! What everyone said is true but I came out of the class with a greater understanding of communication concepts. I dont openly recommend him but if you do get him for a class I wouldnt cry about it. You'll come out of the class with your tuition money well spent
I give him an A-. The negative feedback is very misleading, unfair & overly exaggerated. #1 NOTICE the grammar and spelling of the VERY negative reviews - not the type of students that would appreciate a serious Professor #2 Most of the negative reviews come from 2520 vs 4500 - IS majors struggling with technical depth - he's about technical depth.
I am not sure why the previous reviewer wouldn't "openly" recommend Dr. Clincy if he or she felt they "gained a greater understanding..." and "felt their tuition $ was well spent". Prof. Clincy was good at explaining concepts. You have to know the concepts to do well on the exams. The projects are easy. He likes class participation.
Dr. Clincy is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Do not take a single class with him. He gives impossible tests that you will fail and then he will curve the average grade to a 75. The class average on the 1st test was a 28 before the curve. I have never worked so hard and gotten so little out of a class.
This course seems to cover too much material - I found the course to be difficult - no fault of the Professor though - the exams should be 2 hours - the recorded lectures are helpful - should give some practice problems before the exams
Dr. Clinct is a really nice guy. His class is hard but if you study HARD and do well on all projects you should do better than I did (I got a C)
I had Dr. Clincy for CS3510 and thought he was pretty good at explaining the concepts. I did really bad on his first exam however, I made average to good grades on the rest of the exams because I studied 50% more - CS3510 topics are hard but no problem if you can study more
Horrible professor, who gives impossible tests. Class average on tests floated around 30 - 50%. He grades on a curve, but students are comprehending less than half of your material, sign of a poor professor. Clincy likes to record every other lecture, in lieu physical classes so we would literally have one class to ask questions between tests
The guys is smart, no doubt about it. Unfortunately for the students, intelligence is not directly proportional to teaching ability. This was the worst class I've ever taken. I went from making straight A's to STRUGGLING just to make a 35. You won't learn a single thing in this class other than how to properly withdraw from a course. Terrible.
Its my understanding Dr. Clincy has been at KSU for 10 yrs and teaching CS4500 for 10 yrs- whats the point ?. Advice, realize the course is tougher than the others. Advice2, make sure you understand all book examples well. Advice3, ask him questions in class- he likes class talk. Advice4, do all of those easy assignments-will need the points later
Not any of his exams are cumulative, so you only need to focus on each exam, one-at-a-time. Make sure you know at least 50% of the material for each exam VERY well. If you make a 50-60 on his exams, that will typically curve to a B. He doesn't use a traditional 10-point grading scale. His projects are easy, so do them for the extra points.
He may know his material, but that's it. He doesn't teach & he doesn't care if you learn the material or not. He goes into graduate-level detail in an undergrad class & then doesn't actually answer most questions asked to him in class. His tests cover concepts that he expects you to figure out or learn on your own, nothing from the books or slides.
While some professors may get satisfaction from seeing their students succeed, Dr. Clincy seems to get his satisfaction from making his class as difficult and frustrating as possible. He does almost no examples but expects students to solve math problems he never taught the class how to do. He doesn't care about his students so don't expect help.
His lectures are useful. His exams are challenging and sometimes tricky. His projects are very easy and useful. He gives no homework. He really does like class participation. You will need a good partner on the final project in doing well - my partner pulled our grade down.
Clincy's first attempt at Internet Security. If you've had Clincy before then you already know how he does things. This class specifically was MUCH easier than previous courses (due to lack of Clincy prereqs). Just make sure you buy the book.
3.5 hour class. He shows up for about 20-30 minutes, reads powerpoint slides which are available on his site, and retreats to his office. 1 easy lab assignment per week. 2 part exams over separate days. The programming portion is easy, but the "knowledge" portion is absolutely ridiculous. Class average tends to be about 60%. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Extremely difficult class, lectures are hard to follow, exam questions are so more high-level that what is discussed in class. The final project is ridiculous. Avoid if possible.
His class is laid back. Gives ample time in completing labs and a final project which are big a portion of the grade - I made all 100s on the labs. Tests consist of multiple choice questions from the book and actual programming and are fairly easy. An easy A or B in this class.
Very knowledgeable. Explained concepts clearly and was willing to reiterate when prompted. Actually sent me an e-mail with additional explanation because he was concerned that I didn't understand his answer to one of my questions. Very difficult exams, come prepared; he curves for a reason.
The overall course content was very advanced however in class discussion was focused on the fundamentals whereas tests contained only advanced content. The tests are VERY HARD but are graded on a scale based on other students in the class. There was an instance where the highest grade on an exam was an 88% so no one made an A. Decent class.
Dr. Clincy is amazing. He's a great lecturer, and he clearly has a passion for the subjects he teaches. His class is pretty difficult. The tests are curved, but for most students it will be a struggle. Don't take the one day a week, 2 hour 45 minute long class -- it's not worth it. Wait a semester and get more class time with him.
Graduate Course. Took Summer, not recommended. Too much material in a short time. 4 tests in 8 weeks!! Tests were very long. Last test was 71 questions in 75 mins! Don't expect to do well without studying alot. Take the Research Paper option. Explains lectures well, but tests from book material. Do practice set questions!
Lectures are just Powerpoint readings. Class website only works in old versions of Internet Explorer. He replies to emailed questions rapidly, but it's usually one or two words. Does not award partial credit, so missing a single question on a test can cost you dearly. You can do very well if you teach yourself and study very hard. Not recommended.
Prof Clancy graduate course. Took during Fall semester, recommend. I thought the course wasn't demanding. His test grading and marks were fair. Both of my friends and I made A. The advanced topics were covered through research projects like most graduate courses. Lectures were good. I found him to be friendly; provided me good career advice.
Clincy knows his stuff, does a good job explaining it, but you'll need to study hard as well. No practice given, tests are tough (most fail), but curved so C is the class average. However, study hard, do your practice, and pay attention to detail, you will do good.
Difficult class but great professor. He is an instructor who teaches well and answers questions. His lab assignments and final project were fun and easy, however, his tests require a great amount of understanding the material. I would recommend him for CS3501.
Clincy is a very tough professor. His tests are far and few, but they are very tough. He is well known for his test curve, which he spends way too long explaining during the first class. Review is ppts and the book before class and take notes. During class, take additional notes from his lectures. Great professor, but expects much student effort.
Clincy is a great guy and very knowledgeable on the subject matter. Everyone seems to think this class is extremely hard and going to make your life miserable but I did not experience that at all and I am not even a CS major. You will have to spend your own time to figure out how to study as he does not give you homework. Grades on curve.
We had 4 weeks or more designated to group projects, instead of lectures. The majority of projects were based on javafx, which is obsolete. Lectures were copy pasted from the book. 25% of your grade is up to your team. Could have learned more reading the book, and saving the money. This class provided no value. Exams constructed unfairly.
Like CS1301, although all CS1302 instructors pretty used the same book, lectures, labs, tests and final exam, his tests were easier and didn't require any coding. His grading also included some easy group projects and not just labs and tests. He curved one of our tests. Labs were easy too. My only complaint is, all tests should have been curved.
Clincy's tests are very detailed. His lectures alone will not be enough to gauge your understanding of the material, so you need to read and do practice problems. His projects at the end are very helpful, I only wish that he offered them earlier in the semester. The good news is that he generously curves his tests.
This course advanced computer architecture (graduate level) was no where in contents. Sir takes good effort to teach and available. Very few classes and that too repeated the basic stuff. Too much tension for the grades, though curved and the projects were all very low level. Waste of time and energy. Basic undergrad course was so much better.
He finds ways to cut the points. He taught us very less. Never going to take this professor he taught us very basic topics of computer architecture.
He is the hardest teacher one could ever take. Cut off points like crazy. For each hour of class I think I had to look up like 4 hours of information.
Professor Clincy is a good teacher. I have had for two classes. Just put in the effort and you will be fine, he was always willing to help, he curves the exam grades, and the projects are fairly easy.
Course grade is based heavily on test grades, with a group project at the end. The tests are very difficult and the professor is a very picky grader (you will lose points for work he decides is incorrect, even if you got the correct answer). Tests are curved based on other student's scores. He is vague about what is on tests
I'm taking Dr. Clincy right now. I respect his dedication to students and he really knows architecture. His class is definitely hard, but hard because he wants us to be properly prepared. I honestly appreciate that. He curves tests so that the average is 75. Fun Professor, hard material. If you are interested in 3503 stuff, I recommend Clincy.
Unlike most of the CS department, Clincy takes his job seriously and expects his students to do the same. Take notes during lecture and do the questions in the book. Average test grades in the low 40 and 30s but those who actually studied easily got As and Bs after the curve. He respects your time and money taking his classes. A+ professor
There was no contents in the course. We wont even know what topics advanced comp architecture has. Wastes so much time in number systems and on presentations which are not at all related to course. Always looking to cut points. Not at all understanding. Though he curves his grades, but he wont consider even if you score 89 % and would give B.
The most boring professor I've ever had the displeasure of listening to for 2 hours every week. Powerpoints barely cover test material, and most do badly on the tests.
Dr. Clincy does not at all care for his students. His tests are really hard and he does curve them if the average is below a 70, but he is not here for you. His lectures do not at all reflect what is on the tests. He would not go over an online test that was graded incorrectly until I got the department involved. DO NOT TAKE CLINCY!
Lecture slides are poorly developed and often dense while glossing over key explanations. No longer has a beginner's mindset, teaches topics like it's not brand new material. Very challenging tests that he provides no guidance or prep material for but the slides (the only prep material) are also very poor reference.
He usually makes the tests harder than they need to be. The highest grade on the final exam was an 82. Good luck reviewing for the tests, his lectures are useless unless you know the material beforehand and he skillfully nitpicks answers. It just doesn't seem like he wants his students to do well.
Better to take this course as a regular course versus an online course due to the hard subject matter - had to do both due to COVID. Dr. Clincy knows architecture, cares about us learning, and curves his grades to 70 after he goes back over online exams. Take DR. CLINCY if you want to learn architecture. Don't take if you want an easy course.
Do not take as an online Summer class! Very hard tests where he has to curve so the average grade is a 70. Only 4 tests make up your entire grade. You can't skip questions and go back so you either have time left over or too much time. Tests are very hard compared to the material taught . Its interesting stuff but he tries to make it hard!
I found the subject matter itself to be challenging but interesting however, the online exams were fairly easy to take - most questions were multiple choice
Eager to reprimand and give a snarky reply via email. The 1st day I inquired about the textbook and his response was "use outlook." Funny, cause I was. His tone was even less professional the next time I asked a question. I guess this is ABET's means of maintaining the status quo and halting upward mobility. Systemic classism at its finest.
Clincy is the most unprofessional professor Ive had. When you email him to ask a question, he makes you feel like youre insignificant, gives a sarcastic comment, and a very incomplete answer to your question. He even intrusively looked at our other class schedules and determined he could take up some Tues/Thurs nights outside of class for tests.
Dr. Clincy is very unprofessional and dismissive in communications. Test questions are magnitudes of difficulty beyond the very few homework assignments given. He makes unreasonable demands like asking students to print charts for a test with less than 2 hours notice.
Does not want students to succeed. Tries to sabotage students. Makes tests more difficult than he taught them (final exam was not taught AT ALL), designs tests for everyone to fail and curves the grade (why not help students pass by teaching correctly?). If contacted he is dismissive, rude, argumentative, and will not listen. Avoid at all costs.
This is now a mandatory course for CS. Its a chimera of a lot of 3000 level courses. He knows the game, pass a certain percentage of students to keep the college off his back. He makes test excessively broad over the covered chapters, asks trick/vague questions on the exam, and just curves to a 70% if the class exam average is below that value.
Great course !
This course was hard but fair. Subject matter is challenging I feel. Learned from the assignments too . The assignments need to weigh more
Im a senior in CS, straight As, always show up to class, study regularly, etc. Dont listen to whatever good reviews there are, RUN. By far the worst professor Ive ever had. Tests are designed to trip you up, homework is nothing like the test, he lies, hes unprofessional, he curves grades to the extreme because otherwise nobody would pass.
A Senior taking CS3503 ? I'm a Sophomore in CS, straight Bs, always show up to class, study regularly, etc. I found the course's content to be challenging but worthwhile. The test grades were a nonissue because the average grade is curved to 75. The assignments were very easy, but should weigh more.
Great course and interesting
Professor is VERY lecture + test heavy. Tells us to watch a video of him reading a powerpoint show from 2011 or earlier. He then gives us tests that have no relevance to the lecture or book material. The only good thing is that he curves the extremely difficult tests if the entire class averages below a 70. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!
Dr. Clincy is a less than perfect professor. I would highly recommend that you stay as far away from this professor as you can. His lectures do not match the tests/quizzes and the book. Expects that you are his slave and that you log into D2L daily. Lots of random assignments with minimal time to complete.
The first exam was hard. The second exam was average I think. The last two exams were easy.
Do not take this professor! Stay away from this clown. He makes his exams extremely hard. Do not take him.
Four online quizzes, a final project, no assignments, no midterm, and no final. This professor is a very nice and helpful guy. I was really impressed with how much info he puts into his class. Very willing to help and emails you back.
I have had two classes from him. If you try you will be fine, if you don't try you won't be fine. Also unlike some other professors I have had if you ask a question or send an email he will do his best to answer it.
For an online class it wasn't terrible. The group project was good and if you know how to take a test from home well, you'll be fine. He curved all the tests and the final because scores on average were in the low 70s or below, but if you're looking to take this course online he's not the worst choice. Graded on tests, a group project, and a final.
For a hybrid course, it was good. The tests could be taken at home and were multiple-guess type tests. He curved some of the tests with average scores below 70. He's a ok to good choice.
The course was hard but he helped me learn it.
Very rude to students. Belittles people who does not understand, and will try to not answer questions. Expect to hire a tutor or send 5 emails per question.
Dr. Clincy was knowledgeable and fair.
Hands down the worst professor I've ever had. You will never receive feedback on any homework or tests, so good luck learning from mistakes. His lectures are him just reading the PowerPoints. His instructions for quizzes and projects are confusing and any clarification won't be helpful. Tests don't even follow anything from the lectures
Absolutely the worst professor. If anything ever goes wrong or you don't understand something it's always your fault, it can never be his fault. Even if the majority of the class can't understand test instructions, it's your fault for not reading the instructions carefully enough.
He's fine to interact with in class and is sometimes even pretty funny. The course material itself is not all that bad, but he is very stubborn and somewhat lazy with how tests are given. Everything's autograded and he absolutely does not listen to appeals if you get some formatting wrong or something. The class averages for tests were just abysmal
Very unhelpful class, teacher does not provide any material to practice and determine if we are doing things correctly other than unchangeable grades. The textbook is next to worthless with only explanations of topics rather than demonstrations. Teacher only responds to emails with 1-2 short sentences. Everybody I ask has failed every test so far.
He tends to go off topic and isn't very clear. His tests are autograded and you can't go back on questions; they are also heavily curved. He hasn't updated his slides in a long time but still uses them even though some information is wrong or out of date. His responses to emails are about 2 sentences and almost always not helpful.
Your grade is based on 4 exams and a single group project. Curves exam grade if the whole class doesn't do well. he has his own grading system. Overall easy class if you pay attention,
The lectures are high level, but the tests end up requiring low level knowledge that is only found in the textbook. Use the textbook's resources to study and the lecture slides to guide you through the reading. Half the tests students fail, so the professor curves the grades because he cannot properly prepare his students for the tests.
The lectures were good, textbook was ok. Our grade was based on 1 semi-hard exam, 3 easy exams and a group project. Overall easy course if you pay attention and study adequately.
He's fine to interact with in class and replies to emails fast. The course material itself is not all that tough or bad, but it requires some effort to understand. He has a reasonable way grading is done. Most to all pass the tests, the test results were always shared.
Course was fairly easy. I had a 100 average on the seven labs and B+ average on the two exams. The lab assignments were worth the most.
Should not be teaching. Curves all tests to a 75 class average because the class is so poorly done that people can't pass. Completely lacking in self reflection - they demand answers be given in an incredibly specific way with no partial credit, while tests and assignments are given to you in the most undecipherable poorly worded way possible
Anal about instructions that he proceeds to write incorrectly and then acts arrogantly and rudely when you try to email him about them. Horribly ridiculous expectations for group projects with particular and idiotic instructions. Boring recorded lectures that have nothing to do with the tests. He is the worst teacher I have ever had. Avoid this man
I took this class in Fall 2020. I dropped this class in the middle of the midterm. He didn't teach. He read off lecture slides and posted the video online and expected the students to learn. He had no assignments and only exams and a project. Take someone who cares more about the students.
An easy B course. Needs more assignments though.
I took this class in Fall 2020. The course is rather tough but interesting and different. It has some programming but in assembly code. Many subjects are covered that are hardware in nature.
Uses slides and lecture videos from 2014, reuses the same assignments each year, and auto grades everything. Instructions on tests are always vague and if you email him don't expect an answer to your question. Exam 1 is the easiest and only 3 people polled out of 18 passed from my first time in the class.
Do not take this class. I am a second year Cs major and I can tell you its just a bad course. The lectures are old and not updated and this teacher does not care if you pass. He curves tests because everyone fails them and the assignments are vauge. Plus you will not understand how to do the work because the explanations are awful. Dont take!
so far he's a decent professor but has more cons than pros, pros: curved test, pretty simple assignments. cons: long boring lecture, sometimes goes on a tangent about how the grading system is messed up, old lectures that are hard to read (dark blue background with white letters), confusing diagrams, and doesn't explain the best
This professor is horrific. Unsupportive of one of my accommodations. Acted so unprofessional when I confronted him; he just stormed out of the room, raising his voice, saying that I had an attitude when speaking with him. didn't prepare us for any exams, provided a 50% in-person class when we signed up for a 100% in-person. Only reads from slides.
Avoid this teacher at all costs! He doesn't care. It's 4 tests and 1 group project. Most students fail the first two tests so he has to curve the grades to make up for that. The tests are extremly low level. Once you answer a question you can't go back to review it making these tests even harder. Save yourself the trouble and find another class.
Gives tests unrelated to what is thought in class or to what is in the textbook.
Terrible
Pros: 3 easy exams, curving - very small amount fail any exam, lectures are good and helpful, easy final project Cons: 1 hard exam, no assignments or homeworks
Somewhat hard but good
This professor was great. Was supportive of my SDS accommodations. Prepared us for the exams. Lectures and his analogies were insightful.
he's a decent to good professor, pros: curved test, very simple assignments with long time to complete. cons: overtime lectures sometimes, goes on a tangent sometimes, expectations a little too high for undergraduates
On the test you were expected to make incredibly low grades for it to be curved. The professor can sometimes be unwilling to work with students. I would try to avoid this professor if possible.
The course was good, had 4 exams, no final and a group project
Worst professor. He does not know his material. The average grade for the first test was 52. His tests are awful. He reads off his generic slides and goes no further than that. The book does not help with his tests. Peers who have taken him previously said they barely passed or they had to drop it. DO NOT TAKE HIM! "Do this and this to get that"...
class average is less than a 70% for all of his exams. If one student gets less than a 70 they didn't study very well, if EVERYONE gets less than a 70%, the teacher is not doing a good job.
Close to receiving a B+ for the course. The professor knows his material and is fairly demanding on exams. I found his lectures to be more helpful than the book. The assignments were easy. The average grade on exams 1, 2 and 3 was 75.
Grading is scaled differently but does not reflect in the final grade (ex. 80 = A on test, but 80 != A on the final grade calcs). His tests are disgusting and his group projects are absolutely atrocious. On our final project he graded us on how we "PERCIEVE TEAMWORK"!!!!!!!!, and subjective grading process that has no merit. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Some exams are tough and some are not however, some subjects are tough though. The assignments were very easy. Will need good team members to do well on group project. All exams are curved based on the students performance - the final grade for the course encompasses all of the curved exams, there was no final
Horrible test and teacher, does not care about the online portion of his class at all, powerpoints barely teach you about the subject, assignments are 1 question long, and extra practice is nowhere to be found. Only pro: curving on the test. Expect to make a 30 or Less on his test before curve.
Don't believe the good reviews this teacher has. This is one of the worst classes I have ever taken. I have received As in all of my other classes, so it's not unreasonable to say I work hard for my grades. I received a C in this class while putting the most effort out of all of my classes. There are no easy tests! Reading the textbook is a must!
I'm not sure why Professor Clincy gets such a bad rap, he's a great professor he doesn't use lockdown and has a couple of straightforward "projects" (a couple of textbook questions). The tests are also curved HEAVY so as long as you are on time and schedule because tests are only available for an hour you will be fine.
The Professor were good with lessons and fair with marks.
Maybe his in-person class is fine, but his online one is terrible. The slides and textbook are OK, but very little practice is given. Both the labs and the tests are 10 ?s or less, and the first exam was scheduled for 10pm on a Monday. This is a legitimately hard class, so this professor may not be the best fit if you struggle in online classes.
This professor is unlike anything I have ever seen. Worst lectures I've ever bore witness to, no links to external resources, no textbook link, no anything. Slides and him reading them in video format. Slides mislead you into studying the wrong material. Condescending, and utterly unhelpful. Exams are curved because they are borderline impossible.
He does a very poor job setting expectations. His class relies heavily on a curve for tests and the test contents are extremely different from the slides and assignments. A 47 on a test turns into B after the curve. Group project was very annoying. Can't pick teams and not allowed to ask questions without whole team.
The tests in this class can be quite challenging, but the professor curves them which helps. Using resources like unstuckstudy alongside the textbook can make studying more manageable. Assignments are straightforward, but group projects require good teamwork. Overall, a tough but fair class.
Professor Clincy, isn't necessarily hard per se but his lectures are long and can get boring with no class interaction. But he absolutely knows what he is teaching and explains in an understandable way. Your mainly graded on exams that you will most likely fail, he says this in the beginning but he does curve so that helps.
Legitimately challenging subjects to learn. Overall, difficult but fair course and I learned much.
If you are interested in Cyber, I recommend this course and professor.
He clearly knows what he's talking about, responds to emails quickly, grades on the curve and is a nice instructor and person, but the tests (2 open book and 2 closed) were way too tough compared to the material in his slides and he is very particular in his submissions, do them "exactly" according to the instructions given.
Horrendous professor, only reads from notes as if its the first time he sees them, his tests are way too difficult for what he teaches, and does not provide students with the tools needed to succeed. Gives little to no help or instructions. Regularly has the entire class fail tests, as in the class average will be in the 30s. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
Difficult class made worse by poor instruction and no support. Fully online, no virtual office hours, only email, and replies were rude and condescending. Exams were harder than what was taught, feedback minimal. Asking for help felt unwelcome. Didn't feel like a course designed for student success. Avoid if you want clear communication or support.
Challenging subjects made better by good instruction and responsive email support. No YT videos, recorded videos by him provided that explain the various topics well. Exams were tough and assignments were easy.
I am a 4.0 student and I have never had to withdrawal from a class until him. He offered no support or office hours during the summer and did not make any effort to help his students. The averages for tests were in the 50s. He does not let students view correct answers because he is super concerned about cheating. There's no learning done here.
Very intelligent in the subject of Data Comm, however, for his test you will need to study the book as well.
The main problem with Clincy is that he throws a bunch of jumbled material together in presentations and then assumes you can correctly connect all of it when the textbook only has a few examples with answers. Blames students for low grades - resulting in high curves - when the material is not really that difficult... it's just not taught properly.
Prof. Clincy is a great teacher, but he is very strict. Computer architecture is not an easy subject so be sure to follow all instructions carefully and turn in his labs on time.
He is not a very good Professor. Class average for quizzes were 40-50% so he grades on a curve. The material he provides for lecture is not very useful for the quizzes. Answers on quizzes are final since he doesnt allow you to go back to check previously answered questions. Avoid taking his online class.
Horrible professor. Syllabus is very unclear, very hard to follow lectures, not sure what the assignments are, offers no extra credit.
Helpful professor. Syllabus very clear, recorded lectures easy to follow, plenty of time to complete lab assignments, optional extra credit offered. Grades based on class average for quizzes, easy labs
