Fet was not helpful at all and was very RUDE. I recommend to stay away from any class he teaches!
Dr. Fet was a pretty good professor. He was most helpful when you went to see him after class in his office. The only problem I had with this course is that he gave too much homework, tests and quizzes, and it was personally hard for me to learn specifi
This is the worst class that I have had at Marshall. Aren't teachers supposed to help you? Well, this one doesn't. If you want to make a good grade then take someone else for this course.
These people are crazy-Dr. Fet is very nice and approachable. He is responsive to student needs and an excellent lecturer. I would take him for any class.
This class is easy. You get to draw diagrams for over half the test questions. The only drawback of the class is boring labwork and tricky quizzes nearly every day.
If you're going to take evolution, make sure you're good at genetics. This is a pretty tough course. Dr. Fet is pretty funny and usually pleasant. The only bad thing is you can never predict what will be on the tests and quizzes. Talk Star Trek with him.
Dr. Fet is a very interesting lecturer, if you are interested in the subject. His tests and quizzes are fair, and he is a very lenient grader. Only a fundamental background in genetics is necessary. Great teacher!
Large burly Russian man...he's very likeable and friendly, but I found it easy to zone out during lectures. Regardless, this man knows what he's talking about. Look up his scorpion work. Get him to say Humpty Dumpty in Russian- it's awesome.
love him love him love him
Cool guy. Very interesting person. Seems to love what he teaches. Helpful when you need him. Can sometimes be a little confusing, but nothing that will get in your way of making a good grade. Recommend highly!
Dr. Fet is really awesome. You can tell he loves his job. he is a lil hard to understand sometimes with his accent buh i really like the class
He knows his stuff. Sometimes, difficult to understand due to his accent. However, he knows genetics and is a genius science mind. If you are truly looking toward a career in science, this is a class and the professor to learn from. Brush up on your Russian- that might help you comprehend.

He is an extremely intelligent scientist, a very good lecturer, and very approachable. However, he is very hard, and loves trick questions. He will say they aren't trick questions but they are. Our class average on our first test was a 62 and 2/3 of the class got an F or a D.
Very intelligent man, but you can tell he's not really that into teaching. If you take good notes, the class shouldn't be a problem.
for people who didnt have that much experience in science in high school, or for those of you who only need the basic biology to graduate, DO NOT GO TO FET!! he is a very intelligent man, yes, but he feels that everyone should know as much "basic" information as he does. his "basic" was my rocket science.
Horrible teacher, his notes are VERY chaotic, no structure to study from. The tests have little to do with lecture material. Jerk, dropped my grade on a paper from a 100 to a 75 for using fractions instead of decimals, there was no warining of this, and when approached he gave a sarcastic remark and changed nothing. NOT very hard, but NOT good.
He is terrible. Everone failed the tests!!!! Won't even give a study guide!!
I heard Dr. Fet was good for upper level classes, but if you're taking a lower level science class, don't take him. He's way too smart for basic biology and makes the class very hard. His lectures and tests don't correlate, the class average test grades have been 60,60,63, and that's with half the class having dropped.

If you're not a science whiz then don't take Dr. Fet! It's hard to take notes from his lectures because he jumps around A LOT and his english isn't that good.Quizes and tests don't correlate with lectures either.Very arrogant and believes if you make a bad grade on one of his tests you are just stupid and not worth teaching!! DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!!
simple--if you want an easy A/B, don't take this class!!!
not very good teacher! Doesn't explain things well, says it is easy and that we should know it. He expects us to know things before he even teaches it.His test are trick questions! Wont curve test!went to the dean on him and he then gave us bonus points,so that did help me a lot! So I hope he does the same for fellow students and is a better teacher
He is a smart, intellectual man.
All semester I kept hoping he'd say "moose and squirrel" but he never did.
I liked Fet because of his accent. He jokes around a lot and since I already knew most of the material from High School it was an easy class. I would suggest him, at least for non-major courses.
Very awful teacher, basically does nothing but ramble on about Russian and how biology is "basac" kindergarten work and that we should all know it. Oh, not to mention how all of his lectures and everything he go’s over in class are irrelevant to the tests. Other then that, he's an intellgent guy who expects to much from beginners.
he's an alright teac.
I really loved Dr. Fet's class, and he was a very professional and intelligent teacher whom I learned greatly from.
aiight guy..
He does not want to teach biology for beginners. He has to be contractually obligated or something. We all learned every aspect of biology in 1st grade. Based on that we are suppose to know everything since we have this unbelievable background knowledge
He's the most unfair teacher I've come across at Marshall. It's not my fault that in mother Russia they played with electron microscopes when they were little, instead of legos. His notes do not help on the test, and frighteningly, not even the book can save you. He expects too much out of beginners. If you aren't too hot at Bio, AVOID HIM!
Dr. Fet is a great professor. He does expect you to know your basics, so if you dont and you have to take him, study extra hard. It's not hard to do well in his class as long as you put forth some effort. I got 100 on 3 out of 4 tests. Theyre not too hard as long as you know the material.
This is by far one of the worst classes I have taken. He thinks you are supposed to know everything in biooly by kindergarten...not where I am from. We were lucky to have a science class in high school. I think he is very unfair and is very unorganized when it comes to his notes. They do not help on the exam nor does the text book.
This man is probably the best professor I have ever had. He is very helpful and also very understanding. I will admit that he expects alot out of his students. He likes making references to Star Trek. Also describes curving grades as an" abominable American practice". definitely take him but ATTEND CLASS even though it's not required.
horrible! loves to make nasty comments and be little his students, hates to you out when you're in need of help with understanding things, and he is useless when it comes to lecture! Also, he does test's that are like 7 essay questions so that way if he doesnt like you he can give you an f...
Thinks u should know everything. Leaves RUDE comments like "you should change your career options" on tests and quizes. Hateful to students who ask questions. Hard to get ahold of when needing extra help. GRADES VERY QUICK!Subject is interesting and could be more interesing if being taught by someone else. ALL YOU PRETTY MUCH learn is Pun squares.
Difficult class if you are not interested in the topic. Has a mild Russian accent. Not helpful on the individual level. Expects much of the class in terms of performance. I wouldn't recommend. But if you attend and study you should be ok.
I dig Dr. Fet. He is kind of mean but if you study and get good grades he isn't that bad. His class is hard since I never took a bio class in my life, but people who took high school bio are OK. I love how he uses the word "abomination," sometimes I'm not sure he knows what it means.
coudnt understand half the stuff he said, made smart remakrs about students in class. hated the boring material and he didnt make it intresting at all
His accent was hard to get used to, but once you do the class is a breeze. Read the chapters and listen to his lectures and you're golden.
Dr. Fet is very picky about how you word things. He learned English in Russia...so he learned it the "right" way. Other than that, he's a little quirky and has a lot of information to share...but it just seems like he tries to share it at once and seems scatter-brained. Definitely an interesting class.
Fet is certainly.. um, interesting to say the least. He's very blunt. He's a disorganized mess but a very good teacher. Helps out with his "kindergarten level" examples. Has a very think russian accent yet not that hard to understand.
worst prof ive had at Marshall. Thinks poorly of his students and does not want to help. he does not have good lectures. Tries to be funny and fails miserably. Doest not curve or offer extra credit. Needs to return to russia
the comments about his accent are ridiculous. my ONLY problem with it was trying to understand "metal" as opposed to "methyl". i've always struggled with science but it's VERY possible to do well. crystal-clear notes, quizzes, and predictable exams '?'s. def buy the book too. His expectations are clear. If you do the work, you WILL pass this class.
Dr. Fet is hard to understand at first because of his accent, but once you get used to it the class becomes easier. His tests are primarily based on his lectures, and if you don't come to class and study the book you will not do well on his tests. Overall he is a good professor just tough.
Very funny!! Also my fiances fave prof! Ask questions!
Easy enough Professor. Even though he's Russian, you can understand him. Tries to be funny, but it doesn't really work out for him. Tests are looong, but fortunately they are almost comprised of the quizzes you take. It's almost predictable when a quiz comes, so you can skip the days its not happening. P.S. Bring up info or scorpions. he loves them
Fairly easy class. Offers quizzes regularly so you need to be in class to take them. Tests are all essay format, mostly terms. His lectures are disorganized, but reading the book helps tremendously. He doesn't appreciate stupid questions or answers on tests/quizzes so be intelligent. Overall, enjoyed the class and would recommend!
Lectures are completely pointless. He's very difficult to follow. He says ask questions but then is condescending when answering. You can pass with quizzes and the lab, but the class gets more difficult as it goes on. Save all of your quizzes if you have to take him.
The format of this class is relatively simple. Fet lectures, he's a good speaker, you record the most basic elements of whatever he has to say that day, and then you regurgitate it on a quiz at the start of the next class. The tests are comprised nearly entirely of this quiz questions. Very easy class, book isn't needed if you're sharp.
Dr. Fet is one of my favorite professors that I have come across at Marshall. I am not a Bio-major, but if I was I would prefer it was with him. I was able to ace the tests without prior knowledge concerning Biology just through his lectures and studying the notes that I took. What sucked was the lab, which Fet was not a part of, regrettably.
Although the class was boring to me, I still showed up every day. That's all you have to do, show up and study some, you will pass. It's not super easy, but nothing is. His accent may get a little hard to understand at times however (he's Russian). Get used to taking notes from Powerpoints if you take him.
Dr. Vet is a good professor but has trouble communicatng. He was very fair, if something was on an exam he had covered it in class. He knows what he's talking about and has an obvious passion for genetics. His only fault is understanding what he is trying to ask on quizzes or exams. There is a quiz almost every class which helps with your grade.
I was interested in the course until I had him. He made me want to change my major and is very VERY rude. Makes fun of students if they answer a question wrong on a test or quiz. Thinks we are all Biology majors when we are NOT. I don't recommend unless you are a Bio major.
Definately NOT for nonmajors. He's a good teacher, but he taught as if we already knew the material (We were an intro to Bio for Nonmajors!!!). I asked him to repeat something (Because I didn't catch what he said. I was sitting right in front of him.) and he said to refer to the book. He didn't tell me what chapter or page we were on!
If you have at least some prior knowledge and common sense you should be fine. Hard to understand at times, but you get used to it. Pretty funny guy. Make sure to pay attention and read the book.
His lectures don't help you for the test at all. Just read the power points and do your best. Also be prepared for half the lecture to be on how you should have learned this in kindergarten.
Definitely not someone I would recommend. He doesn't make his own power points and skips a lot of information. The reason for skipping, in his own words, "This is basic Kindergarten level material". Says you only take 20 clicker quizzes, you'll take twice as many, so don't miss a class. If you want to retake kindergarten, I highly suggest Dr. Fet!
I would not recommend this professor. He spends way too much time using Turning Technologies clickers to teach his class. He is condescending and constantly reminds his class they are on the same level as Russian kindergartners. He does NOT like to answer questions either, though he will begrudgingly on occasion, but he will usually ignore you.
I find Dr. Fet hilarious! I thoroughly enjoyed this class. His accent is negligible, and his sense of humor riotous, if you like biology, you'll like this class. Yes, many many quizzes, so read your book, use your notes during the quiz, he recommends it.
This class isn't difficult if you read the chapter in the textbook and study his examples for quizzes. Study his quizzes for the exams. Lots of bonus questions. He's very funny. He isn't being literal when he calls the material kindergarten level. He's intimidating unless you keep up with the book and know your stuff. Super interesting class.
Great class and very easy as long as you pay attention to his powerpoints/quizzes. The accent is negligible and his sense of humor is hilarious. The material may not be "kindergarten level", but most of it is, in fact, covered in high school biology.
I really liked Dr.Fet! Taught well! Taking it in the summer and getting the quizzes/tests from someone who had him before helped a lot. As long as you study exactly what he focuses on in class and you understand the homework problems, it's not that bad. I recommend study groups if you have questions, since he isn't the best at answering questions.
Dr. Fet is Russian. When he speaks you have to listen carefuly. He gives quizzes almost everyday from the previous days lecture. He will tell you when the quiz will be if he hasn't covered enough information.. His attendance is not mandatory but if you miss you better make sure you study for the quiz and test. Most quizzes have 1 bonus question.
He was a fair grader and all, but his heavily Russian accent and awful handwriting make him extremely hard to understand. He is also is often very rude, scoffing at students who as questions and repeatedly saying the what we are learning is only "kindergarten material". If you don't go to class, you will not pass because gives quizzes often.
This man was so rude, would give daily quizzes and make fun of students wrong answers in front of class. He was hard to understand, and then ranted so much! He would have apower point up then not use it and just scribble on he board. He was so unorganized. Worst professor I've had besides Hubbard
I know that people find Dr. Fet rude, and he can be condescending to you if you ask a stupid question. However, if you're willing to work hard then he's an amazing professor - he is incredibly intelligent and knows so much. Work hard and pay attention in class, and you'll learn a ton. He studies scorpions too, which is pretty awesome.
His Russian accent is a little hard to understand at first. A good bit of the material pulls from the intro levels and he compares our education to Russian education. He gives many quizzes and provides bonuses to help. If you pay attention and actually try, then you'll be fine. He seems intimidating, but he really just doesn't like students failing
This class made me want to drop out. It was my least favorite class. He makes the class seem so like its common knowledge to the point that it seems he doesn't even want to teach it. He is also rude if you don't know something. Terrible class.
He is extremely intelligent, but so much that it is hard to follow. His Russian accent is thick so difficult to make things out and his hand writing is hard to read & he writes not in an order so never know what goes with what or where in the book we would be. Tons of pop quizzes and a few exams. He says u should know this stuff since kindergarten.
By far my worst class experience at Marshall. Fet is extremely rude and doesn't sympathize with students at all. Quizzes were everyday and tests contained information we had not gone over in class.
Not nearly as hard as most make him out to be; show up in class and you'll do fine (A or B). Lab is graded only on participation, easy 100%. Lecture is very wordy and sometimes off topic but he knows the content very well. Pay attention and ask for help when you need it and you'll get an A. Always at least 1 quiz a week, most times 2 --don't skip.
Professor Fet does not use technology other than the powerpoints he makes that he rarely uses. He leans against his desk the entire time and you can barely understand anything he is saying. Also, his VERY FEW notes that he does put on he board are so unorganized and make no sense. I had to drop the class because it was so unorganized and hard.
He's very passionate about biology; However, he also expects you to know everything he does. You can pass his class, but you will have to study hard, read books and notes, and watch the occasional Crash Course video. He has about 15 quizzes and 4 tests, and labs are 20% of grade. COME TO CLASS OFTEN! He's not easy, but it's possible to pass.
I'm very glad I took Dr. Fet. He's one of my favorite teachers of all time. If you pay attention in his class and apply yourself he does as much as possible to help you understand any and everything. As a CD major, regular human bio wasn't something I was looking forward too, but I loved his class. Just show up and try!
I did not go into this class expecting I would like it, but I did. Dr. Fet is very passionate about teaching, though sometimes he expects you to just know. There's a lot of studying involved, but you can pass. There are lots of quizzes with bonus, and the tests are based on quizzes. Passing is hard but not impossible, so show up and try! Good luck.
One of the most intelligent professors at Marshall. Not necessarily recommend for intro-biology, because first understanding fundamentals helps. A must for bio-majors to help open their minds. He is extremely funny and does care a lot. His jokes are occasionally a little condescending but take it in stride! Success Spell Se-pa-rate correctly!
The things that give Dr. Fet a bad rep are what I like most about him. He reinforces basic biological concepts that seem to evade upperclassmen's minds, even though most people think he is patronizing. I thought he was funny, and he offers plenty of opportunities to improve your grade throughout the semester. He wants to train up good scientists.
He has a good sense of humor. He is very specific about what he wants, however he makes it clear what it is that he wants. Lecture is a must. He has his own brand of thinking and it is helpful to be able to mirror his words back to him to get the grade you need. Lab is a joke, though. Mostly worksheets, but it's a good boost to your grade.
Dr. Fet is a good professor. Take notes: whatever he talks about in class will be on the tests. There is almost always extra credit available. Review your notes and the powerpoints for tests. I barely used the textbook.
I received a B in Dr. Fets biology 120 class. If you want to pass the class then : 1. Show up to lectures, because his quizzes are based off of his lectures. 2. Outline the chapters main pioints before you attend the lecture for that section. 3. Cross check your outline with your lecture notes 4. Garunteed you will pass if you do that
Dr. Fet seems to care deeply about his students. What can happen is that when students dont care about learning the material, then he gets upset ( and rightfully so). I can honestly say that Dr. Fet has been my favorite teacher because of his immense knowledge of different areas of biology, if you want to get a good grasp of the basics, take him,
not impossible to pass. If you're an A student you're fine. HOWEVER if you are an average (low B to C) student, you won't pass. Fet does not give partial credit. all of his quizzes and tests are completely conceptual workout problems& each problem is point heavy (15-20 pts.) he can be very mean& will make fun of students answers in class
So. I have always heard that Victor was easy, but this year he has turned SPITEFUL. He does not know how to teach, and gives 0/20 on the quizzes if you miss one tiny part of the problem. If you say you don't know something he will yell at you and say that "even his 3 year old nephew could do it"!!! It's only easy if you have old exams. bro he sucks
Arrogant and creates a hostile learning environment. Don't do it if you care about learning the material and/or your GPA.
Do not take. Prof Fet is very rude in and out of class. He makes you feel dumb. Im a 4.0 student and withdrew. I made an appointment to talk to him, he was an hour late and then was very rude and called me stupid. His tests have 6 questions and he does not give partial credit even for multiple part questions. Its his way or the highway on quizzes
HE SUCKS
Makes rude comments often & does not follow clear criteria for grading, made sure I sucked up to him in order to get better grades
He was rude, degrading, condescending, and an extremely tough grader. I got the lowest grade I had ever gotten on my first exam. He didn't offer help instead, he said that it was "shameful" even for basic biology. His quizzes are point-heavy and doesn't give partial-credit. Note-taking is a joke. He's all over the place. I was lucky to get a B.
Professor Fet does NOT care about his students or how they understand material. Frequently makes rude comments, especially when a student asks a question. He HATES questions. Expects you to know everything prior to an INTRO course. Lectures are horrible, very off topic so don't bother going. If you want an A, you have to teach yourself. Good luck.
Quotes: "you should already know this, you're biology majors" and "good question, but I'm not going to answer because it's on the quiz." This class was virtual due to COVID, but we had a quiz per week with two attempts MC. Googling is allowed but due to the odd phrasing of questions, info is hard to find. Lectures and quizzes do not always overlap.
In this course, be prepared to teach yourself everything because it's the least basic intro class. You'll understand the textbook more than his lectures so attendance is unnecessary. He does not answer questions clearly or respectfully, don't bother. Quiz questions are too in depth for this course level, unless you are majoring in biology/science.
Make friends... the only way I passed...
Professor Fet knows a lot about the topic but I found myself not knowing what he was talking about. His tests and quizzes are worded weird, and even if you know the answer you second guess yourself. He expects you to read a lot in the textbook. I would not take him again just because I really struggled with his wording and the amount of reading.
There are trick questions in his tests which make it difficult to get a great grade. I did decent in the class up until one quiz which ruined my grade there for a bit. Luckily he does offer some extra credit which saved me. You do have to rely on yourself at some points but he is not the worst professor I have ever had and I would take him again.
Dr. Fet was definitely not the best professor I have taken, and that is using kind words. Fet was very unclear in his lectures and the tests/quizzes were all of the grades outside of lab. His tests were extremely difficult and almost never matched up to what we learned in class. I highly recommend that you take someone else.
Cant understand him & he was very rude to me through email!
DO NOT TAKE! If you can not speak Russian, you will not do good. In class lectures are usually opposite of the quiz/test. Switch to a different professor as soon as you can. Not worth toughing it out and struggling.
He is not very clear in his lectures. I had to teach myself everything.
so Russian you cant understand anything he says. called me stupid once. do not ever take this class or you will fail because he is so terrible!!!!!!!!!!!!! also he will say his grandson in kindergarten is smarter than you and you should know college biology at age 5, that is what he told our class!!!!
He was very boring but gives extra credit points every time you show up to class. Upwards of 80 bonus points. I never went to classstudied the slides he posts on blackboard and went to labs. The tests are very easy, quiz questions are on the tests. The final was exact same questions from other tests and you have access to tests to study for final.
Reading other reviews, Dr. Fet has definitely chilled out over the years. His class was not difficult at all and I learned quite a bit. Biggest knock are lectures sometimes feel a little redundant, thus boring. He is definitely a very smart man with knowledge of many fields beyond biology and a unique personal background. Not a bad choice
Dr. Fet is very intelligent, but sometimes it's a detriment when he's explaining basic concepts. He has a unique sense of humor I found hilarious. He's very lecture heavy so either write or record everything he says. Biology is just a dense subject; you definitely have to apply yourself to get a good grade. He is fairly responsive in emails.
He talks in circles and doesn't teach. You will be compared to his 5-year-old grandson. Would not recommend it.
For the evolution class, I do recommend the textbook. Some quizzes on the syllabus got moved around unexpectedly. Quizzes are worth 20 points, (3) tests (100 each), and there's a term paper (100). Most tests consist of being given a term and providing a short answer + example. Bonus points on some quizzes were offered.
Fet is a unique, maybe polarizing professor. I find him funny and his tests/quizzes (usually covering the basics - learn examples) to be easy. You will be asked to write lots of short response - I liked it, you can explain however you like and he's lenient. Should be an A. Don't take his jokes personally - he likes to jab at students lightheartedly
Exams - study his lecture slides. 50-100pts of extra credit given in lecture only. Exams are given during scheduled lab time. final is taken in class. all on TopHat Labs were never over 1 1/2hr long
Fet was nice, but I did not enjoy his lectures. He kind of made easy concepts more difficult to understand or just simply confusing when it didn't need to be. Gave 70 extra credit points via top hat. His exams are anything that is covered in lecture, you just really need to study the quizzes and the examples he does in class. Labs do not take long.
Fet's lectures were extraordinarily boring and tests were not applicable to what we learned in class. I gave up on going to class and still ended with an A because of how much extra credit he gives. If you actually want to learn genetics, this class will disappoint you. If you want an easy A for a core bio course, this is where you'll find it.
To kindly put it, I do NOT recommend him to anyone. The only grades were attendance points via tophat and tests/quizzes. There was no way to prepare for these tests/quizzes because his lectures were boring and unimportant. Very unclear in his teaching and will make fun of your level of intelligence if you answer a question wrong.
His lectures are incredibly boring and I was very easily lost. But he gives top hat questions each lecture that make up 60 bonus points which was great.
He talks a LOT in his lectures, attendance isn't mandatory but he does still say a few important things so I would make sure to attend class anyway, you also get bonus for answering questions in class. A lot of the time the tests have the same or very similar answers to the quizzes and in class questions. The class wasn't bad just boring.
This is a very easy class. Dr. Fet provides extra credit through questions on TopHat in class. Lab lasted a maximum of an hour and a half and was mainly just worksheets. Exams are not too bad, and there are weekly take home quizzes that help for a grade boost if needed. I did not learn a lot, but I had fun!
