He teaches from the book. Takes roll only sometimes. Bring caffeine

really nice and easy. Can not go and still pass, definitly an easy A! warniing: is borring at times
only attended class for the midterm, essay and final and still recieved a B. tests are graded on whether you answered the question, not if it is right.
Philosophy can get really strange at times, but it's fun to go and debate your ideas with others. No homework, only a paper and 2 tests...i didn't even buy the book...
fun class, you'll work a lot with others, he gives you every oppertunity to get an A
Good guy, and very funny. If you have a good class who participates class can be interesting. Otherwise, his actual lessons are kind of boring. He will only take roll when the class looks empty. Tests are very easy.
NO NEED TO BUY THE BOOK! great teacher, funny, smart, and dedicated to his subject. easy A or B, and an enjoyable class.
Very nice and personalble man. Easy class to pass-does not take roll- but does not have set schedule so paper due dates can be a surprise. Come to class, take notes, and participate as much as you have to. Only three papers make up your grade.
The class is interesting and he is enthusiastic and open to listening to his students. If you on top of the material and participate, there should be no reason to not get an A. No homework, 3 tests.
great class. he explains things very well and works with the class if something isn't catching.
This guy has the coolest accent. He is way chill and explains the material well. Dont buy the book you'll never open it. Only essays that are pretty easy. take him!
cute old man. easy and a nice guy. two essays. take him.
Great teacher, easy class...only complaint is it takes him forever to hand back tests and post your final grades. Other than that I recomend taking his classes.
Mr. Fontaine has great depths of knowledge! He has thought long and hard about philosophy, so whether or not you agree with his point of view the class is rewarding.
take a pillow to class. even though this class is easy it is very boring. don't buy the book it is not needed. tests are very simple. go to class too he does random attendance checks. and he sucks at returning papers in a decent amount of time.
Study the definitions, and go to class. Its worth it, he is entertaining.
I went to this class like 4 times, failed the final, did horrible on the essay, and got a C (I think). This guy is so easy it hurts. Take his class, but make sure you know someone who goes everyday. Schedule isn't set, so tests are sometimes a suprise.
Great teacher. Very easy and helpful. Very nice guy and really cares about his students. He makes the class as interesting as possible. Take him for philosophy.
He is a great guy and makes class fun, also an easy A
He is one of the most caring teachers I have ever met! I wish I was at Moorpark longer to take more of his classes!
Fontaine is way kick back. Don't buy the book cause all you do is talk in class. No homework or projects just 3 papers. Take this class, it's easy!
He is a great teacher. Lectors from memory, just take notes. No need for the book, he even advises you not to buy it. 3 tests - which are essays and 10 vocab words. Very easy if you study
good teacher. really knows phil,i only could pay attention for so long because he tends to get a little boring. takes for ever to get papers back.
Are you kidding me?! This guy's class was so funny. He's really cool and there's a lot of class participation encouraged so he's not just talking at you. Anyway, he's totally funny. All you have to do is pay attention in class and you'll succeed.
Sooo boring, he is sort of hard to understand. He's a really nice guy and he knowes his stuff and its pretty easy. DONT take this class spring semester if you are waiting for a transcript he took a month to post grades.
Mr. Fontaine is a wonderful teacher. He loves the subject and is passionate about helping his students. He is humerous and kind. I absolutely reccomend him!!!
Dr. Fontaine plays favorites. His classes are generally easy, but he talks long and can get boring. He's helpful if he likes you, and if he doesn't he'll give you the runaround and either ignore you or tell you to sit down.
Are you kidding me? This guy was so hilarious! He was really cool. Make sure to ask a question here and there to make it look like you're interested. He'll remember that and keep that in mind when it comes time for grading. He's like a cool grandpa ty
He's great! I enjoyed his class, and I learned quite a bit from him. He is always willing to help when you don't understand.
AWESOME! he is the most caring and funny teacher at mp. very smart and can bring comedy to the class. i definitely recommend him. only a midterm (10 vocab and a 2 short essays), and in class essay on any topic, and a final. grades easy. take him for sure.

i have to say i really enjoyed this class. hes really nice and really fun. he doesnt like it when you whisper to each other cuz he says then he thinks your making fun of his accent. its a really easy class, at least for me it was. theres only 2 test and a final and no homework.
Awesome teacher. very helpful. makes learning Logic fun.
He is such a funnay guy and makes the course enlightening. dont know if he's ever going to do another honors class but the only extra work was 3 outside of class meetings and he made the in class paper extra credit for honors students.
Great teacher! Don't stress out on the final and mid-term like i did, it way easy that i thought it would be. The honors works were 3 meeting outside; which were very fun to attend and not hard at all. Yeah he a great person and people should participate on his class more because it's interesting.
He's a really cool professor and really loves philosophy. I wish I could say the same about myself, but philosophy is just really boring to me. Don't buy the book. Midterm, Final were essay tests and a paper written in class. Attendance is somewhat required.
i hate philosophy but he made it somewhat bareable. hes hard to understand sometimes with his accent. midterm and final are small essays. take notes
easy teacher, interesting, rarely takes roll. easy A/B. no homework.
Very easy class as long as you go to every lecture and take notes.
Victor is such a little cutie. You will fall in love with him the first day of class.
TAKE HIM!!!
He's funny but not clear on his lectures. Frustrated...gots A's and gave me a B for my final grade and its because he doesn't care about details and is not organized.
Very unclear and flat out totally disorganized in everything.
I didn't have the slightest interest in philosophy (and I still don't), but he's one of the nicest teachers I've had at MC. Just pay attention in class and you should do just fine.
I would defenitly recommend this teacher for philosophy. He is hard to understand but he does know what he is talking about. He doesn't give homework, and only has 3 tests(including final) which are a total breeze and i barely attended class
yea the class could be a little dull sometimes and sometimes confusing...but he so damn smart and likeable that everyone loves him and his class. take it!
take his class now, now ,now!, easiest class you will ever have in your life, no assignments, 2 tests where you just write your opinion in a blue book, that is it, he will not give a D or F in a class.. i got a B and did not write one note down, and didnt even know the answers to the midterm or final.. take him, he is super nice and funny...
This guy is great and funny. He lets you have note cards on first two tests. His tests are based on his own book. You dont even have to take notes just read the book and understand it. No homework or extracredit. Final grade is based on tests & attendance.
very easy. if you show up youll pass. i got a B in both classes only because i only went to half the classes and attendence counts but not for much. hes funny and willing to help students who need it. when he says the word "chocolate" youll piss on yourself laughing.
Good teacher who really enjoys hearing the opinions of his students.
Mr. Fontaine is a fine teacher. He wrote his text and it is not as good as it could be. Only take this class during the regular school year so that if you ned help you can go to the Learning Center. Most people did just fine but a good portion were simply lost. Be sure to ask questions if you do not understand. Sadly, the text is not very helpful.
Dr. Fontaine is the best intructor I have come across yet! He is very knowledgeable about the subject and most importantly truely cares about his students. He has no problem admitting that if you don't understand something then it is his fault, not yours. He will do what he can to get you to understand. He is a kind man, with interesting stories!
Dr. Fontaine is brilliant- and a fantastic teacher. He's this cute old man who always wears suspenders and you can tell he loves teaching. His tests are all essay form, but straight from his notes -and he writes them all on the board so you are sure to get everything. There's no other work besides his tests which are easy.
One of the best classes I've taken. As long as you show up to class and take notes, you won't need the book and you'll get a good grade.
very boring. he has a really bad accent and it's hard to tell what he's saying. his writing is sloppy too. lectures makes no sense and his grading is random... but he only takes attendance once in a while and gives no hw. just 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 in-class paper. and 3 meetings for the honor students. Easy class if you dont wanna try, but boring.
A very kind man of dignity. The concepts in his class aren't useful in real life, but it does at least get you thinking on a different level. He's funny and interesting.
very nice and funny but is a little hard
nice guy funny but i thought was really hard
classes are highly interesting, and mr fontaine is very interactive. don't sit in the back, unless you don't mind him kindly asking for your feedback daily.
so nice best teacher out there i would only take a phil classs with him trust me
A teacher in earnest. Always willing to take the time to explain himself. Can be very funny. Nice accent. If you can, take a class from him.

GREAT TEACHER AND A VERY NICE PERSON!
Fontaine's hilarious! Lectures can be kind of vague but he's an awesome teacher and very understanding. haha He even wished everyone a happy 420. What a character. Whatever you do don't let your phone ring in class or he'll answer it and start a conversation with who ever's calling you. TAKE HIS CLASS. I got an A in the course and bs'd on every test we had.
He is one of the best profs i have ever had the only otherr prof i love more than him is rosenthal
short uneventful classes every week but easy
great teacher, very easy class, he is very smart
If you levae Moorpark without taking his class...Then ur MISSING OUT! He is soo intelligent and caring. If u liked the dad from My Big Fat Greek Wedding..Then u'll def love Dr. Fontaine! He is my fav!!!
You simply cannot leave Moorpark College without taking one of his classes! Hes brilliant, funny, and his classes are always a joy to look forward to. Even when I was sick, i still showed up for his lectures 'cause they are that enjoyable!!!
hes such a funny teacher, very nice, dont talk in his class unless its about logic, dont miss class b/c he randomly takes role, hes very willing to help u, he wants u to be able to pass his class. u can get a 50% in his class and pass w/ a C. i enjoyed this class, though it was kind of hard. helps also to talk to the people around u if u need help.
This guy is awesome. He is humerous, and he knows what he is talking about. He loves his students and his passion is that we would learn the subject and think about the important questions in life and not necesarilly just learn all the "terms" for the test. The tests are easy too as long as you show up to hear what he has to say. Take Him!
He is great. Extremely helpful. Very understanding and helps with the tests. He does not want anyone to do poorly. He really wants you to learn. Highly recommend his class.
Mr. Fontaine is great! His lectures are interesting. He knows what he's talking about, and will make sure everyone understands the material. NO HW! But study definitions for tests! All writing, no multiple choice but I promise they're not that bad! He offers some extra credit problems to do. I got an A and I recommend taking him before you leave MC!
GREAT TEACHER SOOOOOO SMART TAKE THIS CLASS ITS SUPER EASY HES JUST GREAT EASY A
ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS AT MOORPARK. NO HOMEWORK. HE EXPLAINS EVERYTHING AND IS WILLING TO STOP AND HELP. EXTREMELY CLEAR. LETS YOU USE NOTES ON THE TEST. I DIDNT DO ANYTHING OUTSIDE OF CLASS(NO STUDY OR PRACTICE) AND GOT AN A. HE IS A GREAT TEACHER AND THE CLASS IS EXTREMELY EASY AND FUN.
The best teacher at Moorpark. Very clear. Makes the difficult subject easy. NO homework. 3 exams. Learn definitions for it. DON'T miss lectures, otherwise you are doomed. Easy class.
Easy class. Only really need to show up for reviews and finals. Only two finals and one paper. All very easy if you do the review. Dont need to buy the book but it was a great help!
teacher teacher. so easy hard to attend and pay attention. study for tests and you'll be ok.
Take advantage of any oppertunity you have to take a class with Fontaine, he's absolutely amazing. Not only does he clearly portray the subject matter, but he's a blast to listen to. Ask questions in class and he'll love you!
Fontaine is this cute old man that loves to talk. He is very sweet and very easy. The only problem is sometimes the lecture does get a little boring so u start falling asleep. I didnt go to like 4 classes and still did good in the class. Take his class, its an easy a if u listen to a little bit of his lectures.
excellent.
One of the few teachers that I'd go to the class after already completed to just sit in. If you do not participate in class, then yes you'll bore yourself to sleep. A great teacher that has wonderful stories to tell, and is able to laugh at himself. He loves his students; wants to hear your ideas, questions, concerns and challenges you to think.
This class was interesting and insightful. I think that this was probably the only class that I actually enjoyed going to. The class was very easy, I live pretty far from the school so when the end of the semester was near I got lazy and I didn't attend the class very much, but I still got a good grade. Anyways, I highly recommend this teacher!
Very caring about students understanding of subject.
Dr. Fontaine is the best!! As a student returning after a number of years, he has been extremely helpful and clear on the subject of Logic. He is accessible and always willing to explain anything you don't understand. He is kind and funny and involves everyone without intimidating them. He is one of a kind.Recommend him 100%.
His class can be very boring. He gives you the topics before the midterms. There is one in class paper. I found the class to be fair and easy if you study. However, I almost fell asleep in a lot of his lectures.
Zero homework assignments!
He's a really interesting, caring guy, however his lectures are not very good. It's hard to take notes and he doesn't cover the topics in a very effective way. I don't know if I would take him again...
WOW what an easy teacher. Really nice old guy. Highly recomend taking his class to get away with an easy grade. His test are so easy, and so is his grading. Fun guy to talk to as well.
Great teacher. Fair, open minded, funny and interesting.
Great teacher. You really get a lot out of the class, especially if you are interested in intellectual debate about subject matter. Take this guy for sure.
boring but easy, go once a week and ur fine. he talks about stuff u already know so there's not much learning, but you can sit in the back and do whatever. no hmwk, theres an opinionated in class essay. if u can stand bad breath i recommend him for an easy A.
This is the most boring class you will ever attend HOWEVER, it is an easy A. I went to the first 3 classes, it was interesting. Went to 3 or 4 classes in a month. Just go to 2 or 3 classes before the in class essays to get the info on what to write. Find a buddy to swap days with to take the little notes that are not really needed.
I took him for PhilM01 an Phil M02 which is Ethics and This class is interesting and he is a great, fun teacher. There is no homework. There is a midterm, final and an in class paper. He knows what he is talking about and is very open minded towards students opinions. Also you do not need to buy the book.
He was really great and funny but the class was a challenge. At the beginning its very easy but close to the end of the sem, I didn't know what the heck we were talking about. You can ask for help and he'll do his best but for me at least I just couldn't get it. Won't take again but i enjoyed him and his class a whole lot. VERY FUNNY & NICE :]
no homework and no textbook. He really likes it when you voice your opinions and participate. Has a bit of an accent, but if always willing to repeat himself and go over the info. more detailed. One in class essay on any philo. topic of your choosing. If you miss out on a lot by missing a class.
Sweet old man...very boring. Only a Midterm, in class paper and final. Very easy!
Very, very nice man. Interesting class. Slightly boring at times, but that's only because the class meetings were so long (summer semester). No textbook, just a little pamphlet he wrote which is like $2.00 at the bookstore. Midterm and final. Fairly easy, just know the vocabulary and you're good. Definitely take his class before you leave MC.
I attended class everyday and took notes but this professor gave me a B despite receiving A's on my midterm and final. He is hard to understand when he speaks and his voice put a lot of students to sleep.
CUTE OLD MAN. $2 BOOK HE WROTE ALL HIS LECTURES ARE STRAIGHT FROM THE BOOK. CLASS CAN BE BORING THOU HE CAN BE FUNNY. ATTEND IS A MUST. JUST A MIDTERM, FINAL AND IN CLASS PAPER.
easiest teacher. very nice and cute old man. can get boring. if you want the easiest A of your life, while still learning some good stuff, take him.
This was an interesting class because Fontaine truly enjoys talking about it. He makes the class engaging and relatable to everyday life.
This was an interesting class because Fontaine truly enjoys talking about it. He makes the class engaging and relatable to everyday life. I definitely recommend taking this class!
Very nice Prof.Study the videos and study guide multiple choice questions. Learned something new. Video lessons on sale at ebay.com The examined life 26 episodes.
I took this class as a televideo course and it was hard. There wasn't a lot of work but the tests ask very specific questions about the videos that I struggled with. I wish I could have taken his lecture class instead of the video one but I didn't have the time. He is very thought provoking and funny but his hearing is not great!
Only has a midterm, final and one paper. Very, very easy class to get an A in. His lectures can get boring, but for the most part are interesting. He made his own textbook and follows it verbatim, so notes are unnecessary for the most part. He is truly passionate about philosophy, and really knows his stuff. I would highly recommend.
Nice guy and an easy class. It gets really boring sometimes, but whatever.
Very boring, easy class. Don't always have to be there, but don't ask him to explain anything because it will make you more confused. His tests aren't always based on what he talks about, just on the book. He is very hard to understand, just read the book yourself and you won't even have to go to class
I only showed up to about five of his lectures and ended up with a B. There are only three assignments: the midterm, an in-class paper, and the final. His lectures are boring, but he seems like a nice guy. Just show up every once in a while and learn the terms in the text he wrote. He doesn't speak English very well.
Nice and easy. And if you are a sensible person, it might give something to think about. Though for philosophy majors it is probably not the best option, since the class is not challenging at all.
THE BEST TEACHER I HAD IN MOORPARK COLLEGE. HIS TEXBOOK IS ONLY $3.00. EASY TESTS, VERY NICE PROFESSOR.
Easy "B". I took both Intro to Phil via video tapes, and Intro to Ethics with this professor and got a "B" both times. Not sure what he is looking for in regards to earning an "A", however, if you want an easy class, and can be happy with a "B", go ahead. Text only $2. Midterm, final, and extra credit. Tests are on terms, plus your opinions.
Good, general overview of philosophy. Wanted students to save money... text less than $3.00. I was afraid that he would want lots of class participation, but I got an I by going to all the classes and reviewing the terms before the midterm and final. He is nice and thoughtful. There is also an essay on any philosophy topic you want. His littl
great teacher. does not discriminate against your opinions. he makes philosophy fun. and he gives good grades
This was my 2nd semester taking him. Logic was extremely easy, and I had no prior knowledge going into the class. He tells you exactly what is going to be on the test, and is very fair.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!
What a cute guy, textbook use is high but it only cost's like $3 (really) he talks and you can ask questions anytime and he's not always very clear on when the test's gonna be but other than that great teacher :)
Fontaine= Easy, funny,&kind but often boring &confusing. Hes very intelligent but his lessons& lectures are all over the place. He wants you to attend all of his classes but you can easily circumvent his methods of keeping attendance. Never sit in the back of his class,(it's one of his pet peeves).not recommended to Atheists because he seems bias

TAKE HIM! i love his accent. One mid-term, one final, one in class paper. He curved our final. So easy. He's so funny. Pretty interesting guy. Very easy A.
You should definitely take this class if you want an easy A. His lectures ARE his textbook, but make sure you study them thoroughly. He's a good teacher and presents good examples but he tends to drone on and on sometimes. Make sure to keep yourself awake.
A huge plus is that his textbook is only $3 (written by himself). Being in his class can be very boring, but you can tell he really enjoys philosophy. There's only a midterm, in-class paper, and final, all of which are pretty easy if you study the terms and concepts directly from the textbook. Attendance is not mandatory, but helpful
Easy class, very boring though. Attendance isnt mandatory but if you want an A you should go. The test are really easy, they are basically just terms from his 3 dollar book plus an essay which he tells you whats its on in advance. Nice guy just extremely boring.
Charming older man. Interesting and willing to help. Takes the time to help you understand. really knows his material. Great class!
Very kind old man that loves the subject he teaches. He loves to hear other's opinions, and isn't afraid to give you his. This class taught me a lot and opened my mind. Read the textbook and pay attention and you'll get an A.
Okay sure, the guy is really nice and he seems to like what he is doing but honestly, it is a lot harder than it looks. If you miss a day your going to have to spend a week catching up. Tests... Let me tell you about the test. He does not tell you what is on them. You just have to know everything! It's pretty hard. You have been warned.
The tests are really difficult. Don't expect a study guide or anything of that sort. You just have to know everything from the chapters and only 25% of that will be on the test. He is funny and sweet but the class was harder then I thought. It was more math then I would have liked. Just make sure you real all these before you take.
Nice older man but incredibly boring class. He's taken off task easily and often. Wastes 10-15 min each class roll taking - a big chunk of only a 75 min class. Grading criteria not very clear. He's often confused & mis-speaks about the topic which leaves the class confused. Still have no idea why this subject is important or how it applies to life.
He's a super funny guy, always trying to help.Do not absent and ask him whenever you have a question. follow the class exercises, you'll be okay in the exam.
He's okay.. Just study at least 4 hours the night before the test, and use flashcards for the definitions. if you're the type to want to sit up front sit in the 2nd or 3rd row.. bc his breath smells funky. he also let's you make up an exam for any reason, just be polite about it.
Fontaine is a likable old man, but he is clearly incompetent as a professor. He constantly struggles with the language and age barriers. Class absolutely puts you to sleep. Bottom line, he is doing a disservice to the students because you sit there and gain nothing.
Extremely easy class. There is only a midterm, in class essay, and a final. The book is $3 and you always use it. Attendance will get you an A in the class, but it is not mandatory. The class is super boring, but if there are people who disagree on things, then it is interesting. I recommend taking this class if you want an easy A :)
Took this class my very first semester, and like most, I slacked off. I rarely went to class, took the midterm and the final, completely bombed both those test, didn't even bother to do the in class essay and I still managed to somehow get a C. Class is boring, but if you actually pay attention to what he is saying, some of it is quite interesting.
I took his intro and logic classes. Logic was easier. He uses his own textbooks which are cheap. You really need to study to get his stuff but its not too bad. The books are very clear. Class is very boring tho...
He has a good approach to teaching philosophy, wherein he mostly focuses on concepts over philosophers, but he's very old and senile. We had 3 assignments, and I only got back 1 of them because he lost them. He does not critique, and has a hard time picking a grade (Gives AB's instead of an A or B.) There are no guidelines or syllabuses.
It may seem like he's grading harshly throughout the semester, but at the end, curves grades dramatically. Just about everyone ends up with a full grade better than they should have.
Teacher did not follow syllabus, gave no credit for attendance or participation even though it was listed as part of the grade. Used his own book which saved $$. Did nothing about students caught red handed cheating. Took 6 months for him to respond to my many requests to see the final. Then he could not explain why I only got a B.
Very easy course, takes attendance half of the time, you can literally walk out the door when his back is turned. 1 midterm, 1 final. Easy topics. Participate in the discussion occassionally and relax the rest of the class.
We do so little work in this class that I forget I'm in it every now and then. He repeats himself every class. It's an easy A though, and I'm not one to argue with that. But I would highly discourage taking an early morning class with him, you WILL fall asleep.
Such a kind-hearted, good-humored older gentleman! You can tell he loves logic. He is interested in his students and really wants them to succeed. Uses his own book which saves a ton of money. Follow along in the book as class progresses and you will understand much better. The class would tend to get loud often, but he did tell them to be quiet.
He was an amazing teacher. He is old, and I wasn't expecting that my first day. A little hard to understand due to his accent, but he will repeat anything for you. His class is a little tricky, you must do well since the assignments in the class that build your grade are only your tests.
Super cool old guy. Only grades are tests though so it can be hard if you don't do well. A lot of kids don't show up when they see how little he takes attendance, but its worth it to go. He is opinionated, but he always wants other other sides and gives the class chances to participate.
Very nice guy, and knowledgeable on the topic. Sit up close though, because it's harder to hear him in the back of the class. He doesn't check attendance regularly, but try not to miss. The only issue I had with this class was the book, which was written by the professor, is not even an inch thick, but still $60
Honest Opinion: I took his hybrid course awhile back in '09 and he is the nicest and coolest professor ever. All philosophy professors are cool and understanding! Makes you forget your preconceive notions and think on things. BEST PROFESSOR IN MOORPARK! :) TAKE HIM!
My dad actually took him over 15 years ago & said I should take him, glad I did! He's very funny & makes the class entertaining. The subject isn't easy for everyone, you either get it or you don't. Tests are pretty hard, but he gives out extra pts if he thinks it was his fault the class didn't do well. Overall good teacher!
Sweet guy, but i believe he is ready to take his leave.3 tests are all he bases your grade on.He gives points for the question part, and a grade for the in-class essay(doesn't tell you why he gave you that grade, and gives no comments on the essay).Hard to gauge what you could do better when there are no comments.did well, got A's& AB-not sure why
I ADORE Victor Fontaine!!! SUCH an inspirational teacher! he respects everyone's opinion and never makes you feel stupid for your beliefs like most philosophy teachers! although, it's not much new information. basically just a bunch of deep talks and opinions which is why it's such an easy A. your tests are basically opinion based! SO EASY!
He is awful. He is disengaged and you will be bored out of your mind. Sure the class is insanely easy, but that is because its not even really a class. This is what you will learn: nothing.
