He's a really good TA; smart and charming. -Kelly
Victor is a great TA and he definitely knows what he's talking about. And it's true, I do get rather flustered when he walks by! I think he's pretty cute!! I would def recommend taking a class from Victor. Gotta love the accent! Thanks Victor!!
Very good teacher!! He knows a lot about what he teaches. He also keeps his quizzes reasonable if you attend class.
I had to withdraw from this class because there was so much information covered in such little time. Normally I'm used to this, but his organization is horrible. If you're not in lab, you'll have a super hard time in this class. He's a funny professor, but he cannot teach whatsoever
Needs more training. His lectures lack fluidity and he often goes off topic. Has sense of humor but cannot lecture. Powerpoints are filled with erroneous information and grammar is often not correct.
Good god. This guy makes anatomy a lot more boring than it was in high school. On top of his mediocre lecture slides (straight from the book, I suspect) he doesn't make class engaging and will chuck online assignments at you all the time. If you absolutely have to take his class, you better show up every day and strain to pay attention.
Great teacher. Definitely attend lecture as he gives EASY extra credit points for attending. There is an optional 25 point extra credit project at the end of the semester. You have to put in the work but his powerpoints are very straight forward.
Dr. Gonzalez is an all around great guy, and he's a pretty good teacher too. Everything you need to know is on the lecture slides or the online assignments, plus he'll take a few questions out of the end of chapter book problems. This is not a difficult class if you come to class every day and study for the tests. Only bad thing: The accent :
He is a great professor, he's just a little difficult to understand sometimes with his accent. He tries to make class interesting and funny which helps with the dull lectures. Attend class for the super easy extra points, do the extra credit project, go to the study sessions hosted by his TA's, not him. A lot of info is crammed in tests.
If you do poorly in his classes then you are either lazy or you don't realize the effort college really demands. He communicates exactly what is expected of you and what information you are responsible for. He should teach a class for other professors called "How to Effectively Teach Adults."
He is not American so he is difficult to interpret sometimes. Other than that, the content he explains makes sense. He incorporates funniness into learning the intricacies of the human body. Sometimes it can be boring but this guy makes it fun!
He's difficult to understand! I recommend taking it online or with someone else.
Victor was a great instructor. Good sense of humor, helpful, and made learning anatomy quite fun and easy. I highly recommend his class! He is Colombian so he has an accent that some people find hard to understand but it's not don't let it scare you. He is very handsome so that would be the only distraction!
Reads off lecture sides ALL THE TIME. He has a thick Colombian accent, but he's hilarious if you can understand him.
I loved his class. I looked forward to going to his lectures because he made them so fun and entertaining while still covering all the material. He gives LOTS of extra credit if you take advantage of all the opportunities, a lot of them are activities done in class so if you skipped you obviously don't get those bonus points. Drops lowest test too.
Attend class on Fridays for extra credit to make up for bad test scores. Tests are tough. Study using power points. BOOK NOT NECESSARY. Be a good guesser on tests. Homework is really easy, multiple attempts without penalty.
Victor is one of the funniest professors I have had at KU. He really cares about his students and wants them to do well in his class. You have to study quite a bit for tests but if you go to his office hours, lecture and SI sessions you will do fine. He also has a ton of extra credit opportunities!
Professor Gonzalez is amazing, and he offers so many resources to help you succeed. There was at enough extra credit to raise your grade by at least 10%, SI sessions, and in class worksheets with lots of hints about what would be on the test. His accent is really not bad, don't know why people were complaining. I'd definitely recommend his class.
Class is pretty easy, and Victor made lecture very fun and entertaining! If you show up, pay attention, and use all of the extra credit opportunities, there's NO good reason you shouldn't end up with an A. Provides SI sessions for extra help. Some might find his Colombian accent hard to understand, but wasn't an issue for me. Loved this class!
It's a lot of information at once, but he covers everything that is on the test. If you try, you will succeed.
Very, very helpful professor. He is very kind and caring and quick to answer questions. He is always available after class. He keepsaid his lectures interesting and humorous. He is absolutely one of my favorite proffesors!
This has been one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. In class activities were nice for extra credit but tests are hard. Powerpoints are very vague and I feel like you have to teach yourself most of the material. If you don't have time to teach yourself (like me) you won't pass. I ended with a 69.24% but he refuses to curve scores. Don't take
Professor Gonzalez is very funny and helpful. He offers in class activities for extra credit and extra credit on the tests. While he is lecturing it's important to take notes on what he's saying because his slides can be vague. If you go to class, do the online homework (where the textbook is helpful), and study you'll do well.
Dr. Gonzalez is a great person. Anatomy is a fun class with many opportunities to be successful. Difficult exam questions are often balanced with extra credit problems.
Amazing lecturer. There is a big extra credit project at the end that does wonders for your grade. The tests are hard but going to class gives you bonus points! His study guides are GREAT. DO THEM or at least look at the questions before hand. Didn't study and pulled off a B on the final.
I was always a little shocked/unprepared the tests because of the difficulty, so STUDY STUDY STUDY. He is an awesome professor though and always tries to make class interesting. For my class he provided a VERY generous amount of extra credit which really saved my grade.
He is hands down the worst professor I have ever had. He accuses people of cheating, even if it isn't true. Doesn't know how to handle organizing both lab and lecture. He is an awful professor and doesn't deserve to be a staff member at any university.
Genuinely wants to see you succeed, but will absolutely make you work for it. STUDY STUDY STUDY like you've never studied before. When I forgot to fill out my scantron on a test, he said I was a good enough student to retake the test entirely (even though it had been upwards of a week since I took the test). Incredible guy.
Easily the hardest class I have ever taken. You have to study study study from day one if you want to do well. Victor is a great instructor and wants you to succeed. There are minimal points offered outside the tests, but there is an extra credit project offered. Attend SI sessions, go to class, get help when needed if you want to pass this class.
He's a nice guy, but the lectures are so hard to follow especially if you don't understand his accent. Tests are not too bad if you study and there is ample extra credit, yet the lecture can be brutal as it is mostly just information to memorize and not concept-driven
Victor is obviously very well read in his studies, he's very clear and incorporates humor into his lectures. This is a very hard class though, study and go to the SI sessions and the reviews before tests. Probably the hardest undergraduate class I've taken at KU so far. It's hard, but not impossible if you put in some reasonable effort.
The most difficult class I have taken so far in my college career. Professor is beyond difficult and the lab, supervised by grad students was ridiculously confusing. There was one grad student people gravitated to when needing help, because of this her study groups were not helpful due to the numbers. I lost my Phi Theta Kappa because of this class
The lab is the toughest lab ever at the school. A lot of people have dropped the course bcos of the difficulty. Be prepared to do a lot of outside research (Youtube is your best friend for this course). The lecture for the course is hard and easier in the summer, but can't say the same for the lab. Summer lab has 2 quizzes a week and 1 exam.
If you have the chance to take lecture and lab in the same semster, do it! I found that bc we learned concepts in lab before learning them in lecture, I already knew the material for lecture which made 240 easy. I noticed that my friends who were only in lecture struggled with this class because they had not been previously exposed to the content.
Although the attendance is not required, he often does in-class activities and "pop quizzes" (which he mostly goes over as a class before you turn in your worksheet), and these count for bonus points. Although there is a lot of course material, if you spread out your studying, show up to class, and do the bonus project, you can pass with an A or B.
Straight up, you aren't going to get a good grade if you a) don't study or b) don't have a photographic memory. The entire course is complete memorization, so as long as you can memorize everything on the slides, you will get an A. The only reason class is "mandatory" is due to pop quizzes; he just reads off the slides for lectures though.
His tests are pretty difficult, but he gives out so many EC opportunities that they make up for a good portion of your lost points. Go to lectures, he makes them entertaining with his humor and the pop quizzes and in-class activities are all EC. Also go to the exam review sessions, they helped out a lot with what to expect on the exams.
Victor is really fun and I enjoyed his class a lot! He gives random pop quizzes for extra credit so it is good to go to class. Your grade is mainly your tests. The tests are pretty much just memorization so be prepared. He also gives many extra credit opportunities so take advantage of them! He was a great professor for anatomy!
Dr. Gonzalez was such an amazing professor, I loved anatomy so much because he made it very straightforward and gave us several tools to study with. The class was test heavy, but he offered several in class extra credit opportunities that really helped (but you have to go to class to get them!!). Highly recommend taking anatomy with Victor.
Dr. Gonzalez is great! It may be difficult to understand his accent, but his lecture slides + the study guide are pretty self explanatory. If you're interested in the material and willing to study, you'll do great! He keeps things interesting and provides several extra credit opportunities. He cares about the success of his anatomy students.
I loved this class! His accent is hard to understand sometimes, which made it harder for me to focus during class. Your grade is pretty much based on tests. You will probably have to study more for this class than any other class if you want an A since it covers so much material. 10/10 recommend doing the bonus project, & going to the reviews
Great professor, took extra time off his office hours to meet with me and go over my exam scores. Not the best at giving lectures but if you are interested n the material and take the time to go over it on your own time you will be fine!
I loved this class overall. Victor is a great guy and is willing to work with you. His tests are not horrible if you study. His lectures are interesting and on a few tests, he will do part group. I highly recommend this class! Oh and lots of extra credit. Attendance is not required but he will do random worksheets for EC.
Great prof. I just passed with a 96%, I missed class several (6-8) times throughout the semester. The powerpoints are straightforward and on bb. He offers a ton of extra credit. You get to drop a test. Really an easy course.
This man has ruined my semester. Says stuff won't be on the test and then it is. Expects you to learn entire body systems in just a few days. The tests are so difficult. I study so much and still fail. Literally everyone I talk to fails the tests as well. He does offer extra credit, but it isn't much help when you have an F.
I started this class with an A but that quickly went downhill following the third test. The teacher is super nice, but his study guides do not help with the test. I study so hard for the tests but my hardwork is not reflected in my grade. Good luck!
I do not recommend. He's difficult to understand, and he'll give study guides with information that won't be on the exams. Then, he'll say that topics won't be on the exams, but they are. Overall, nice guy, not a great professor.
If you don't pass its bc you're bad at anatomy/memorizing/didn't study. His accent is not a problem. Lots of explantations/mnemonics/extra credit. Goes over pop quiz answers. Helpful slides. Offers multiple reviews for every exam & you can drop one excluding the final. Anyone who says anything bad about him, you've clearly never had a bad prof.
Extremely difficult class for me. I ended with an A, but it took a LOT of hard work and I barely got it. Go to class because he gives extra credit there and you get to drop an exam which is nice. Be ready to study, I failed my first exam because I didn't realize how much you really need to study if you haven't taken/aren't the best at anatomy.
LOTS of extra credit. tests are fairly easy. one of my favorite professors at KU.
Anatomy lab is hard but doable. You will never see him in this class because it is 100% taught by your GTA and UTAs. Try different ways of studying until you find one that works. There are quizlets already made so I recommend using them. I used a whiteboard to memorize origin, insertion, etc. Also go to open labs!!!!!!!
This class was one of my favorites to take. The lectures were a little long but he's a funny guy so they weren't boring to listen to. He gives a lot of extra credit during lectures, so going to class would be beneficial. Tests are pretty difficult but as long as you study and keep up with the information you will do just fine.
I heard this class was harder in person, due to covid, the online version was very easy. The labs were difficult, and the lab manuals they provide suck. I used the anatomy coloring book (bought online), and it SAVED me. The lecture part of class was easy enough. I stopped going to lectures mid-semester, because he only reads the powerpoints.
This class is very exam-heavy. The only other opportunity for point is weekly assignments. The lectures are boring. He just reads off of the PowerPoint. He will say things aren't on the exam, but they will be. The study guides are useless. The exams have only the reading material on them. Be prepared to teach yourself everything in this class.
Lectures were decent but definitely hard to stay focused (online). Instead of studying off of the lectures, I was always better off reviewing homework questions or taking the practice test multiple times. The lab (BIOL241) was much more difficult. The labs were a lot each week and felt very rushed with unrealistic expectations to memorize/learn.
I took anatomy lab and it was VERY HARD. Online portion was difficult because I am a visual learner and dissection online to learn was tough. He was understanding for the most part, as he released mock exams a few days before the actual test. You definitely have to study every aspect of the topics or you won't pass. The rigor and amount is tough.
Victor puts information on his exams that arent in the study guide or mentioned in class. If youre taking the lab be prepared to have your lecture midterm the day after your lab midterm. Thats what he does because he doesnt care about his students. He shows no empathy and will not give you the tools you need to succeed. Avoid him if possible
I'm so surprised no one mentions this bit, his textbook is riddled with spelling errors and incorrect anatomical direction. Couple that with many illustrations are flat out missing and website cannot load images on quizzes leaves you laughing at the absurdity as your graded on spelling and pointing at locations. Avoid if possible, if not good luck.
Lab was HARD 50% of the class or more failed. 5 exams each 15% of your grade. Lab manuals had so many mistakes, and tas for my section were not great either. I reached out for help after the first exam and they basically j told me to try harder. I spend 3/4 hrs studying EVERYDAY and still struggled to get a C. would 110% recommend taking at jccc
The only motivation to go to class was for the extra credit. The class was taught by reading off of slides and exams were over 80% of the final grade.
The class started with 30 and at the end, we were left with only 12 people with varying degrees of just passing. This class needs to be evaluated, the difficulty may be permitted but the number of incorrect instructions by TA and text should not. The fact the TA/GTA were regularly unable to give us correct information is a symptom of something.
Really fun class if you like anatomy. Textbook is required as its the only way to access the online assignments, you dont necessarily have to read the book. Attendance isnt mandatory, but every so often youll do an in class quiz thats basically just 2-3 points of extra credit, so Id recommend going to the lecture. Overall pretty easy.
BIOL241 is working with human cadavers at KU. You must constantly study if you want to do well. It is very hands on and open labs are available on weekends. Dr. Gonzales writes the lab manual but is not in charge of the class. Very big work load but one of my favorite classes I have ever taken. Prioritize this class if taking.
This professors tests are very difficult and the homework is not helpful for the exams. The average for each of my exams was a C-D and never curved
Overall a reasonable professor. Students take him out of proportion, all you have to do is attend lectures and start studying early! He gives pop quizzes and extra credit assignments for completion if you literally just show up.His tests are hard and are majority of your grade, but what you put in is what you get out of the class. Study, study, study
GO TO CLASS!! He gives out extra credit if you do and it's prob the only reason I passed. Victor himself is great, super nice/knowledgeable/caring...TAs are 50/50... His lecture wasn't bad, I honestly recommend NOT taking the lecture&lab at the same time (fr don't if u can), the lab is super hard and it's honestly too much content to keep up with.
Ignore bad reviews for BIOL240. If you put in the effort you will do just fine in the class. Anatomy is a hard class, but there is a LOT of extra credit opportunity both attendance and on the tests. He does his best to interact with students given that it is a big lecture class. I did not take lab at the same time & I think that was the best choice
I took the lecture and honestly was a breeze for me. The lab on the otherhand not so much. Idk what people are talking about this class sucks. honestly the lady in charge is so rude. I got an A but would highly recommend taking somehwere else You will NEVER see gonzales in class because it is only TA's. I can stress taking this at JCCC enough!
God awful was the worst class experience I have ever had. Your emails will be received but will not be responded to. Victor does not care about his students AT ALL! I would ask for help and I would get zero compensation for anything if you miss lab they really have no understanding and do not care. They also don't care about your emotional wellbein
Don't take lecture and lab simultaneously, they don't correlate at all. If you're in both you'll probably worry about your lab grade more than the lecture grade and your grade might tank. The lecture test made no sense and lecture as a whole was pretty pointless. The lab is all about memorization and spelling, take it somewhere else if you can.
Overall I think this class is taught great and Gonzalez is very caring. The exams can be pretty difficult, so study lots and start studying early. I made that mistake on the first exam and I failed it. The good thing is that the last exam is optional and if you take it and you score higher than your lowest test grade he will replace that grade.
Know the information in the study guide and you will be fine for the exams. Go to class, lots of extra credit! You could have a B average for exams in the class and get an A with all the extra credit. His exams aren't too bad as long as you know the information in the study guide. Third exam-hard, know ANS! He isn't super interesting.
Dr. Gonzalez gives lots of extra credit. There are pop quizzes but they're bonus points. This class takes up a fair amount of study time, but follow the study guide and you'll be good. The tests can be tricky since you can't always use process of elimination on the questions. Lecture isn't super exciting, but he's overall a good professor.
Go to class even though attendance isn't mandatory but there will be lots of extra credit opportunities in class. Tests are extremely hard no matter how long you study. The test structure is very weird and tough. Barley passed the class despite going to SI sessions, office hours, reviewing content daily, reading the textbook, doing the assignments.
This class is required for a lot of pre-med/nursing/etc. students. There are materials such as Supplemental Instruction (SI) that made the class much easier. I would recommend talking to TA's, finding a study group, attending SI, and going to class because there is easily 40 points of extra credit just given during random classes.
By far one of the most genuine professors at KU. Very kind, and cares about his students. Anatomy is a difficult course to teach and it is pretty material heavy but any anatomy course will be like that. Gives lots of extra credit, just try to pay attention in lectures!
If anatomy doesn't come easy to you, good luck. Slides have anatomical jargon you won't understand half the time, and exams have complex questions. You HAVE to go to class for his extra credit. If you don't put hours and hours into the class going to S.I. and doing notes, good luck. Almost every average on his exams this semester have been D's.
The class is hard, but for many anatomy is a need. He makes it fun and gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. Attend his class!! My biggest recommendation
This class is very difficult. He is a good professor, but the tests are very hard to get a good grade on and the average grade is a D on tests, so show up to class for extra credit.
If you are not prepared to study for at least 30 minutes to an hour every day, do not take this class.
Plenty of "pop quizzes" that were for extra credit. Definitely, extra points are there if you go to class. However, you can study the material in class and will still do badly on the exams. The average for them was a D. Says a lot more about his teaching than the student's ability to learn. I was a straight-A student until I took this course.
Very good professor! His class is hard and most exams averaged around a C, but it is a lot of knowledge being packed into one semester. GO TO CLASS! He gives out many extra credit opportunities and you will need them. He has interesting lectures, and you can tell he cares about his students. 5 exams, and one is dropped. Go to the SI sessions!
I'm mostly writing to talk about what the lab is like. It's time consuming, but fascinating. Go to weekend open labs often since that's the only time you can study the bodies outside of class. Prepare to commit a lot of time to this class. The lecture teaches based on body systems, the lab teaches based on areas of the body (take lecture first!).
He flies through the lectures super quick and doesn't give much time to take notes. you'll take random 3 question pop quizzes that aren't worth any points. you're expected to know 3 units worth of information by every Friday and take a 50-question test. if you ask him a question, he won't give you an answer and expect you to figure it out yourself
He gets active in the lecture, meaning he keeps the energy up and does just read slide after slide. He even goes as far as walking up and down the lea tire hall to engage in all of the students, making sure everyone has the chance to participate. He is also very understanding of absences.
Test heavy! go to class for extra credit, normally at least once or twice a week. SI sessions are super helpful. finish the online assignments at the beginning of the unit because they do not align with lecture like at all. only note the things he emphasizes in lecture. took this as a freshman and it is doable to get an A if you go to class
If you go to class and study you can get an A. It's not an easy class but if you go to class and study a good amount the tests are doable. His tests are worded confusing so tets are HARD, but just study. You have to put in effort in this class.
I'm writing this to talk about Anatomy Lab, which is now under Dr. Hemmingson. DO NOT take this class if you can't devote many many hours a week to studying. An hour a day, 3 for quizzes, and 6+ before exams. SO much to learn and memorize. This class needs to be evaluated because it is not a 200 level class.
Taught the wrong subjects. Practice exams were nothing like real exams
He participates with the students and makes jokes to keep others entertained. He is always willing to help and answer questions. Although the tests are heavy, there are so many opportunities for extra credit if you show up to class. I enjoyed this class very much.
I think this class & its professor get a bad rap. As long as you attend lectures there are tons of extra points to receive that really help your grade. Exams aren't too bad especially if you attend the SI review sessions. The textbook is not mandatory, and neither is attendance (but I recommend going). Overall was a fun course and a great prof.
He has a bad rep on here, but I think it's because of the content, not his abilities. He gives great lectures aimed at helping students conceptualize and memorize. His lectures directly relate to the exam content. If you do the connect assignments and take good notes, receiving an A is doable. He gives out tons of extra credit, just attend class.
BIOL 241 was honestly the worse class I have taken at KU. Be prepared to spend your entire semester devoted to this course. I would recommend not having a heavy semester when you choose to take this course because it has so much out of class study. To even pass the class you need to be studying every single day.
Hes the worst and is unreasonably mean for no reason then when you talk to him in person, if you can ever catch him, he is fake and condescending. And good luck trying to get him to reply to an email, wont happen. He ruined a class that should have been fun, ugh.
Loved! Lots of extra credit offered in lecture and actually cares about teaching is students!
He gives you every opportunity to be successful in this class, it's not an easy class by any means and take some time and dedication but he is a wonderful professor and explains the content clearly. Not to mention how much extra credit there is, he sets you up for success loved this class.
Gives great lectures on all the topics you need to know. He also gives you opportunities to practice through in-class assignments in groups and individually. Overall, teaches hard content, but wants you to succeed! He gives tons of opportunity for extra credit throughout the semester.
I don't get why there are so many bad reviews. The tests have been so easy. Most i've missed is two questions. Just study the slides and you'll be fine. He's wholesome and gives lots of extra credit. For a class on anatomy, it could be a lot worse. Also tests are normally split between online and in person, or fully online.
He is definitely my favorite professor I have ever taken at KU. This class can be difficult if you do not study. If you go to class and pay attention, it should not be an issue to get an A. He offers plenty of extra credit and has many resources for the course. He is also so funny!
Professor is very nice, you can tell he tries and likes to teach. But class is EXTREMELY lecture heavy. Many people ask how to get an A in the class and the only thing that can be said every time is: memorize every slide. There is no other way, once I've realized this, I'd study 3 weeks before exams to memorize every slide possible. EXAM 3 IS HARD!
I was super scared to take Anatomy because I had heard awful things. But, the professor made sure we understood the content. By far my favorite professor at KU. There are pop quizzes for extra credit and weekly quizzes that are required. As long as you show up to lecture and pay attention you should do fine.
BEST PROFESSOR AT KU. he made getting up early to his class worth it. He is funny and def cares about his students. he even does little drawings to help you understand. try to attend every lecture because they're not recorded and even missing a day can put you behind greatly. he does do pop quizzes but lets you use your notes at the end.
He is a very good lecturer, and truly understand what he is teaching you. The SI sessions are extremely helpful and the TAs are great.
Victor is a great professor at KU, who really wants his students to thrive. The subject Anatomy itself is hard, but he makes it pretty easy. The exams are not too bad and almost all of them were half online and half in person. As long as you go to class and study the study guide you should be fine. He also gives pop quizzes for EXTRA CREDIT!
Dr. Gonzalez is an amazing professor! Get ready to study but lectures are engaging
great professor, quizzes are participation, gives lots of extra credit, and most exams on half online. but it's a lot of material so be prepared to study
