Funny, comedic, organized, intelligent, cute as can be!
Great prof...V. Hot in my opinion
Awesome class
BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!!!!!!!! VERY INFLUENTIAL
very cool, helpful and passionate about what he does. He keeps your attention...awesome.
victor rocks!
What a hottie... nice guy, great teacher, and very fun to look at.
My second favourite prof! A really cool prof. I liked how he told us about his work and took the time to have a class discussion with 350 students. A little bit disorganized but still a really good class.
YEAAAAAAHHH VIC!!! gulewitsch's was the best, i couldn't ask for a less boring prof! he made me want to be an anthro major!!!
extremely boring. probably my worst class. the prof was extremely disorganized and the multiple choice exams were unnfair.
what a horrible class- no one ever showed up
He's super funny!
Great guy, great lectures! Take this course with this prof! You won't regret it!
Nice guy, and funny, sometimes drones on about definitions of mundane subjects like definitions of currency, has good politics which he often interjects. realize every thing he mentions is written word for word in the book, minus anecdotes
Hey, just bring a rock from your backyard that a raccoon has gnawed on, and claim its from 300BC, thats what he does! Very boring, never stays on topic. After the 3rd class people stop showing up. Everything you need to know is in the text. Waste of Time.
He was boring. I was very interested in taking this class but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. It could have been so much more interesting.
What a great prof! He is definately interested in what he is teaching about, and consistently brings his own relevant experience to class. As an elective for a science student this course was great! It is probably the most enjoyable course I have even taken.
Just rambles on about funny annecdotes in class, but he is extremely messy and unclear. You're just way better off reading the text on your own and skipping a grueling night class with Gulewitsch.
He was interesting sometimes, though sometimes the classes were a bit boring at times. It's true that everything on the exams is in the textbook. So just read that and you'll be fine. Go to class for some clarifications and humour. Oh and you have a movie basically every night.
I don't own the book, haven't read a line of it, don't go to class very often and i have a 90 average. That's how much of an impact this prof makes on the class he is teaching
Very interesting when about his own experiences. He gets frusterated when he realizes he has to catch up with actualy textbook material, and puts up boring slides and drones on. His own stories are awesome, and he's funny. Read the text, you'll do well on the exam. Hard-marking TAs.
He was somewhat funny during his lectures and was always good about getting back to you via e-mail if you had questions! And I have to say that he is kind of hott too!
Awesome prof, nice to see somone actually working in this field, gives some of us hope, funny, down to earth and totally approachable, lectures were fun even though they were at night, worth attending, great ta's, interesting subject, especially for an elective.
A genuinely nice guy..Knows what he's talking about and cares about what the students what to learn and be aware of. His lectures are awesome and he's a funny guy. He's very knowledgeable. He also works with the first nations people so that's an extra thumbs up! First Nations ROCKS YOUR SOCKS!
very good prof....very interesting
funny, approachable, but shouldn't ramble so much, but so down to earth, does what he loves i admire that.
he's interesting, and tries to make boring topics interesting. refreshing that he actually works in the field and has experience in some of the subject matter. can be quite funny. i liked the class.
Humour is insulting. Exams incredibly easy.
The most REAL prof I've ever had. So straight forward. So good at what he does. Incredable.
A lot of experience in the field. He's very knowledgeable.. not to much, very handsome.
funny guy, I love his anecdotes about land claims settlements. Lectures can be kinda scattered but he makes up for it in personality.

Imagine if Chris Catan was playing an anthropologist. Sexy.
mr rock man! he loooves anthropology. i wasn't really interested in anthro at all, so i found it a boring useless class, but i imagine if u were he'd be good? u don't have to go to the lectures at all, just read the textbook it's all there.
great prof, interesting stories, great sense of humour, easy mult choice midterms that require common knowledge for the most part etc. only problem was his enthusiasm for the course seemed to pass as his class seemed to thin out every passing week where a class of 350 had only about 100students near the end. at that point his lectures became boring
The most laid-back prof I've ever had. Is full of interesting stories and is very approachable. The exams are insultingly easy if you read the textbook.
This Prof is absolutely amazing. He teaches with great enthusiasm, and knows how to talk to students in a personal manner, despite large class sizes. His understanding nature makes me feel very comfortable discussing the material and or any other issues I have with the course. More organization in respect to notes would be appreciated though.
Victor is my hero. He's guest-teaching at Laurier this year, and I want him to stay forever. He's an anthropologist who has a real job (i.e. investigating land claims for native groups). His lectures make me so happy. So does his face.
Loved the course and loved Victor!
Best prof. I had all semester! Very down to earth and relatable. I would love to have another class with him. The text is a big plus...read it and you'll do just fine. Know the key terms!! I love how he'd show movies for the second half of class each time because he was sick of talking haha. I recommend that you take this class!!
What an amazing man. What a superior professor. I am trying to get another class with him next term. It makes sooo much sense that 99% of the "raters" love him and 1% do not. It must be the pupils who suck n'est pas?
One of the best prof I've ever had! He's extremely interesting prof, very knowledgeable and passionate about his work. Every class brought unique specimens to class to enhance understanding of each lecture. It?s a must take course, there was a midterm, essay (topic of your choice) and final exam! Great course!
Prof was intriguing and had tons of personal experience to help make the class even more enjoyable
Is a good prof but sometimes goes on tangents where I lose interest and fall asleep. However, good looking man!
Best professor I had first year, interesting and clear and kept me so interested I never missed a class, not many did the class was in ROZH from 7-10 and was almost always full. Completely approachable had many conversations with him, can be approached for anything!
Awesome
Amazing prof! Class itself was pretty boring but he works as best as he can with the material. Quite funny, very fair, super approachable.
LOVE THIS PROF! He is such a nice guy, keeps things pretty low key, and is really fair. He understands that students have other commitments and classes. Show up to classes and listen, and you will do fine on the assessments. He hates exams, so he keeps the midterms fair and gives out a take home for the final. Highly recommended!
Best prof to have for a late night 7-10pm lecture because he keeps it interesting! He knows what he's talking about and doesn't just read off of slides. Also shows interesting movies which helps to make class feel like it's going by faster! Very approachable and funny.
One of the best prof's I have had this year! He keeps the course interesting, he's hilarious, and really fair with all of the content.
decent guy, but extremley arrogant and ignorant. Really is over his head in terms of discussing human nature.
I don't know why anyone would say a bad thing about this guy... such a good professor..actually knows what he's talking about and is passionate about the material.
Absolutely awesome prof and definitely one of the BEST I've ever had. He is so knowledgeable and well spoken... Loved his Native Peoples of Canada class, he worked in this area for his entire career and had great stories. :)
Funny, accommodating, helpful, made an effort to make the material interesting- generally a great prof
Gulewitsch is a pretty good professor, I just wouldn't recommend him for this class. This is not the class he usually teaches so lectures were boring and he read from his slides since he wasn't that familiar with the material. However, he did try to make things more interesting by using videos (which did make the tests so attendance is a must).
My class was at 8:30 am and I thought I would dread it. But surprisingly it was fun and interesting, and Victor Gulewitsch made that possible. Knowledgeable and funny. Utilizes film & modern concepts etc. I recommend you go to class to get a grasp of the course material, but it's okay to miss a few.
I took this course as an elective, and I'm not much of an anthro person, but this class was great. The prof is really fun to listen to, and when it came to tests, it was easy to know exactly what he was looking for. He is also very considerate. I was late on an assignment due for personal reasons, and he took it without the penalty.
i asked to have a make up date for the exam because had three exams in a row and he is very understanding and gave me a make up. his lectures might get boring but he knows what he's talking about. very smart and fair and the fact that he understands students and is fair makes his class so much better.
Great prof
I took anthro online with Victor and absolutely loved him! He is really there for you to do well - I realized I submitted the wrong file for my paper a week after I handed it in and he was totally understanding and let me hand in the right file. Found the class super easy to do well in, and the content was interesting, too - would highly recommend!
This class is fairly easy, all you have to do is go to it and do the readings. Group fridays are also easy to finish and hand it to get 20%. The essay was a little less on the easy side but durable. He's a cool guy but doesn't have the greatest notes.
Awesome prof, good stories, just practice terms/definitions for midterm and final and you'll get an easy A. For the report, add an appendix with pictures and that'll boost your mark easily.
His lectures are long and boring as he basically just reiterates what the textbook reading was for that week, which means that if you pay attention in class you don't have to read the text and vice versa. Even so, I loved him because he was such a nice guy and always wanted the best for his students. Very helpful if you need him.
If you rely on the notes he posts online you will fail. He posts titles and then expands on them in class. Very interesting lectures and he's really funny and passionate about what he teaches
Victor was easily one of the best professors I've had. He clearly has a passion for anthropology as you can tell from his lectures, and he adds a lot of humour. He's a very quotable person (he says a lot of unexpectedly hilarious things). The content is also really easy/interesting. Only thing I didn't like is that he'd often get off topic/ramble.
Dry sense of humour but god damn is it funny. Will very bluntly and calmly says something that triggers a shock-value reaction from the class. Easy class - just look at the little bubbles in the margins of the textbook and you will pass with at least a 70.
great teacher 100% would take his class again.
Well structured online course.
Did not understand one lecture I went to or how he literally wrote random things on a piece of paper instead of using powerpoint. Found the prof and the course very confusing and learned more at home with the textbook.
Victor was a great professor. Lectures were interesting and engaging, a feat considering the subject. Lectures were sometimes difficult to follow, however he typically stressed the info which would be tested. Exams and testing is extremely lecture heavy, with little coming from the readings. Overall, great professor and interesting course.
He is a true Gem and a respected anthropologist! Laid back, fascinating course and passionate. I will try to take every course I can with Victor Gulewitsch! Also, he is approachable and wants the best for his students. He tells you what will be in exam and lecture heavy with his notes - which are great anyway. An online op-ed and weekly posts.
Professor Gulewitsch is an incredibly knowledgeable and passionate anthropologist that wants to see his students succeed. He has a sense of humour and is very understanding and approachable. Plus, it was very inspiring to hear his own personal experiences and work. Overall, I would easily take another class with him in the future.
One of my favourite professors. So funny and down to earth his lectures are great but can be dense. Just listen attentively and show up and the class should be a breeze. He's really easy to talk to and is helpful, respectful and very easy to understand. Wish he taught more courses!
Super down to Earth and an overall great guy. He relates with students without trying too hard. He also gives out a decent amount of easy marks such as for posting in weekly discussions.
He's a really good prof! I had him for 3 hours at night and he managed to keep my attention for the most part! An excellent choice and if I can, I will DEFINITELY be taking his class again! Beware: you have to pay attention to what he is saying as he uses unorganized "chalkboard notes" which are just a bunch of words. Funny and tests are fair
Great prof if you want an easy grade. Tests are easy and assignments are even easier, lectures can get a bit boring but I was also in the 3 hour class so that didn't help. Take his anth1150 class if you want an easy A
Great prof, cool guy. Likes to show documentaries for second half of night lectures which is a nice break. He was also very accommodating when I had a exam conflict.
Easy class, funny lectures. Midterm and final not difficult and he tells you most of what will be on them.
AMAZING prof! Would take one of his courses again in a heartbeat! I had taken an intro course of his in first year and he took my anthro class last minute when my prof was put on leave and he handled it super well! He is so down to earth, funny, easy to understand and learn from and he just speaks to the class like they are real people!
Easy to understand, fun, motivational lectures. Down to earth, funny and inspirational! Would take one of his classes again. Simply outstanding!!
Nice prof! Good lectures and overall really easy to pass with a great mark.
Very passionate about Anthro and super nice. Had an exam conflict and he was very understanding about it and flexible.
doesn't use slides, doesn't engage students let alone look up. So if you have a question and put up your hand, good luck with that. #NoCap #SorryNotSorry If you genuinely hate yourself and want to be talked at for 3 hours, take a course with this prof.
He is a good guy but he doesn't normally teach this course so he made it very boring. He stood in front of us and read out of the textbook, and paused every 5 seconds. He has no idea what he is talking about. He plays stupid movies for the second half of class.
What a great guy! It is ten times easier to pay attention in class when the prof is as personable and cool as him. I would recommend taking notes before or after the class, and listening to what he says during, as he does not follow the slides outright during lecture (but he does post them online).
I took biological anthropology and this prof made the three hour night lecture easy to sit through. The material was interesting and he would put on a movie the last half of the class that was relevant to the current topic. The textbook reading is very helpful. don't copy the slides, just take notes on the lecture and read the textbook.
Professor Gulewitsch is an amazing teacher and person, he made his three hour lectures so interesting and easy to sit though. His classes are interesting because he is passionate about what he teaches. He is very very understanding and is very approachable outside of class. Overall he is one of the best and a cool guy
This prof is probably one of the best Ive had. Hes very clear on what hes looking for when giving instructions, so theres no grey area. Also, he keeps his lectures interesting which is a bonus. He gives lots of opportunity for achievement, and you can see that he really cares about making his students successful.
I loved Victor; he was such a funny guy. I had him for the 3 hour night lecture- tough to get through, but he would teach for the first half and then show a movie for the second. The content of this course is super easy, and he also has a few extra credit assignments which are an easy 90+. Show up and enjoy what he teaches and it will be easy.
Victor is such an amazing prof and I really enjoyed this class. The three hour lecture wasnt bad to sit through since hes pretty engaging and shows a movie for half of it. Exams arent bad (MC) - study your notes, go to class and read. Small paper that isnt horrible if you just follow the instructions and ask for clarification. Hes a great prof
Pretty fair prof, I didn't mind him. Gave fair courseload and was pretty reasonable in grading. Communicates with students often and presented good material that was relevant to the work assigned.
Great prof. Had this guy first semester first year during covid, this prof understood the difficulty of being fully online and helped his students out as much as he could. A lot of the concepts you talk about in this class are covered in other courses (Sociology and Global studies) so you can get away with not reading the textbook for this class.
Great professor, his weekly recorded lectures were really helpful, and material was easy to understand.
The course went primarily though the REVEL textbook, but lectures were posted that were super helpful and interesting.
Gulewitsch was such an amazing prof. He was very understanding during the pandemic and gave generous extensions when needed. Knew what he was talking about in the lectures and prioritized student engagement. Exams were based on the textbook but his lectures included special personal anecdotes and stories. Would jump at the chance to have him again!
Had Victor during W21, and the class remains a favourite of mine. He is personable, knowledgeable, funny and an all around great guy. His lectures are pretty relaxed and mainly focus on textbook content (key for exams), but also include his personal stores of the field. The research paper is TA marked, but he is fir and considerate regarding grades
I stopped showing up to his lectures after 2 weeks. He always goes off on tangents and I learned more from teaching myself from the textbook and lecture slides. The easiest way I could put it is that I didn't show up and I got the highest mark on the midterm, that's how much I suggest just teaching yourself.
Nice guy but I didn't find the lectures helpful. He goes on tangents often and what he say vaguely relates to the content. Almost everything on the midterm was taken right from the textbook/PowerPoint slides so reading both of those are necessary. He also didn't explain the assignments much at all, although they were fairly easy anyways.
I did very well in this course and only went to one lecture. If you just make notes from the textbook chapters and PowerPoint slides you will do very well on the exams. Discussion posts are participation so as long as you write something you'll get 100%. Victor is very accommodating if you need extensions and genuinely cares about his students.
Prof. Gulewitsch was awesome! He was funny and kept lectures interesting by providing examples and telling stories relating to the content. He always made sure to crack jokes before the tests to help ease the tension. Going to lectures helps with understanding the content, which is covered in the textbook.
Hilarious professor. Some of the most out-of-pocket things were said in this course. Textbook was required and reading was heavy at times, but the content was summarized in Prof. Gulewitsch's slideshows. The midterm and the exam were fair, however, the exam had some content that I did not remember covering. Still got a decent mark though.
Professor Gulewitsch is an entertaining lecturer who makes the 3-hour class fly by. The textbook is helpful, but his slideshows summarize the key content. For exam prep, going to class, taking notes, and using resources like unstuck ai are musts. Overall, a fun and manageable course.
