Dr. Moll talks very fast and is often hard to follow, but he is an excellent professor and really tries his best to get his students to understand the material. Tests are hard, but big curves.
He is a nice guy and means well, but he is not the best at explaining. He is to quick to label things as easy and then move on to something else. He also tends to start a new problem in the middle of another which can be confusing.
He was good. His tests were hard, but he knew his infromation.
Class wasn't too hard, and he likes you to do homework in groups, unlike most teachers.
Very difficult to understand when he taught. Often times when someone would ask a question he would just say "That's easy." Then go on doing something else. Or he would start answering but switch to something else before ever giving an answer.
Moll is definitely the best teacher ever! Anyone who complains has no idea what's to come esp if they are an engineer. He tests what you know not what you can reguritate from the book and curves WELL and FAIRLY! I took calc I II and III and got the best grade in his class. Likes to help students understand and suceed. BEST math professor at Tulane.
He is a good teacher. Sometimes he can be hard to follow though. Test can be hard, but are short and each problem takes a lot of thought. He really knows his stuff. Can be very helpful and nice.
I had him for number theory which is probably the most interesting math course that I have ever taken. He is really helpful and wants you to do well. The course isn't well structured but who cares?
Definitely one of the best professors I've had at Tulane. Really (REALLY) wants his students to do well and will put in the time to help if it is requested. Tests aren't completely predictable, but not too many curveballs in general. Take Moll's class if you have a choice.
A very good refresher course, or actually a course that explains the concepts learned in previous calculus class. Really nice friendly teacher, fun to talk to.
Great teacher! Throws challenging problems at you on tests, but quizzes are much easier. He usually won't give you anything you can't handle, as long as you've been paying attention to the tricks and techniques he does in class.
Moll is awesome. His lectures were very engaging and interesting (a little confusing though) & we never had an actual test the whole semester. His homework sets and take-home final were pretty tough but he really wanted everyone to do well and was good about regrades. Super nice in his office and has a great sense of humor. Take him if you can!
Professor Moll really wants to help you and have you do your best. This class broaches some very difficult subjects and will challenge you. Expect to spend many hours on this class. The curve saves your grade. You learn a lot about calculus and problem-solving.
I believe that Professor Moll wants all of us to do well in his class. Although the assignments are challenging, he takes that into account when grading. If you are someone who does best with daily homework problems, this is not the class for you. It is a challenging class, but worth taking! I also suggest not skipping this class.
Professor Moll is a wonderful and passionate teacher who truly wants his students to do well. His tests are challenging and you should expect to put a lot of time into the class, but it is definitely worth it. He is very interactive and engaging and is always available in his office for help!
Dr. Moll gives difficult tests, but they are meant to challenge you. He's extremely helpful outside of class. Most of his class is "big picture" thinking
Moll gives very interesting and engaging lectures. The tests are challenging, but they are also rewarding, as you learn the material much better. This class is a lot more proof-based than the non-honors consolidated calculus classes, so be ready to confront fewer, more difficult problems. Overall, it's definitely a class I would recommend.
Weekly quizzes are annoying but there's no way around it. He's a decent teacher but you are going to have to learn a lot outside of class. I recommend utilizing your TA and Khan Academy. Exams are WAY easier than weekly quizzes and take-home packets. Go to his office hours and he will solve the problems for you and give you points back on tests.
My favorite professor by far! He covers everything you need to know in his lectures and provides helpful practice problems before quizzes and midterms. He makes the material easy to understand, which is really important in a class like calc. He really wants his students to do well and is very helpful at office hours!
Super cool professor who actually cares about his discipline and his students. I don't even like math and he still managed to make classes interesting to me. Quizzes and midterm are relatively easy if you know the material.
Professor Moll is the best math teacher I've ever had. He really understands the theory behind the math and goes through that before actually doing the math. He really helps you understand the basics of calculus (limits, derivatives, and integrals) and leads into them seamlessly. He convinced me to take Calc 2 even though it isn't required.
Calc 1 was definitely a tough class. The weekly quizzes were overwhelming at times, and there seemed to be constant work with the hard take home tests. However, Moll, and my TA were great, and easily available for extra help outside of class. Moll has a good sense of humor, and overall I am glad I took Calc 1 with Moll.
Great professor who genuinely wants his students to do well. He is available frequently for office hours. There are quizzes mostly every week, but they are not that difficult.
He's a good teacher. He cares about his students, and use his office hours! He will definitely help. Arguably one of the best professors I've had at the school.
Professor Moll is a very smart professor, but lectures at a high level, without stopping to clarify, explain, and clearly label his work. The weekly quizzes are tough because most of the time, even if you understand the problem and show work, he gives little to 0 partial credit, making your grade not representative of what you actually deserve.
Professor Moll is a highly respected teacher, however the class was extremely difficult. Daily lectures were disorganized and unsatisfactory, his notes were unclear and never fully answered, leaving students with an ample amount of questions that he refused to answer, because they were "too easy", or he didn't feel like working them out.
Professor Moll is a very good teacher. I appreciate him being available for office hours. I had taken Calculus before in high school, but I understand much more with Professor Moll. The take home quizzes were hard, but they helped comprehension. The weekly quizzes were moderately difficult; some were easy, others hard. The good news: he curves it.
Good 'ole Victor was the bomb. His lectures are pretty clear, and he is always willing to answer questions in class (unless he's doing his usual hilarity which is hard to describe). His humor will keep you engaged in class, and he always provides resources and is flexible with dates. What a stud.
Moll was an overall good teacher for Calc 1. He wasn't great, but he was solid. The class may seem hard, but as long as you put in some effort you should get a good grade.
Come to class, do decent on quizzes, I didn't do an entire take home quiz which is like 3 quizzes I got zeros on, and still got an A.
This class is extremely difficult, but his curve will save your grade. He takes into account your participation and the trends of your grades into your final grade, helping you out a lot. He understands the topics are difficult and if you take the time to attend class, come to office hours, and work for it you're final grade will reflect that.
Victor is a very interesting and fun professor. He's engaging and very knowledgeable. The class is pretty tough but he'll work with you to make your grade reflect your effort in the class.
Moll is a good guy, but the class itself was really hard, ESPECIALLY IF YOU'VE NEVER TAKEN CALC BEFORE. The vast majority of the people in the class already had a year of calc in high school, so be prepared to WORK if you've only had a year of precalc
Victor is one of the best professors that I have ever had. He is very approachable and makes sure that you understand.
He is very engaging and wants students to succeed. He gives a large number of quizzes, so getting a zero on a couple or so won't ruin your average. Expect a quiz /or group project (worth 3 quizzes) every week. He's very understanding and helpful in his office. Tests are difficult, but the curve at the end of the semester is your best friend.
It's a really good class and the test are not hard if you attend every class and want to learn. Moll might be a little bit pushy and harsh sometimes but overall he is a good professor.
Moll is hilarous and a very good teacher. Sometimes when he is going over problems in class he is all over the place, but he is very helpful in office hours so I would say go to those whenever you get the chance. He rewards students who work hard and is a very respectible person.
Victor Moll is a really awesome guy. I had him for both calc I and calc II and found the classes challenging but accessible. He spends most of class doing out proofs for the material being used that week which can be confusing but it's still important. Ask questions, get to know him and your TA. He wants you to succeed more than anything.
Professor Moll's class can seem intimidating at first, but he's really nice and super helpful if you ask him personally. The homework is normally hard but it makes the tests generally easier.
At first honors consolidated seems impossible because he likes to perform complex proofs on the board. The hw questions are very hard, but you work in groups and have at least a week to complete them. The quizzes are relativley straightforward/easy. The tests are pretty fair, and seem comparatively easier than the material covered in class.
Great professor, very engaging. The honors section of 1310 is very proof heavy, don't take it if you haven't already learned calc 1 & 2 in high school. He made the material very interesting and I now understand how many of the calc theorems were developed.
This class is very challenging but Professor Moll knows that and does a really good job at getting students to understand complex ideas and proofs. He is always accessible at office hours and always really helpful outside of class. Professor Moll really cares about his students and is a very fair grader, and I learned a lot from his class.
Good at lecturing as far as math lectures go. Very passionate about calculus but this excitement may lead to tangents that are interesting but won't appear on tests or quizzes. Class is very tough, but he knows this and is extremely helpful in office hours. Overall very nice guy would recommend for those that enjoy calculus.
The material for the class could be difficult at times but Prof Moll did a good job explaining things. Homework is hard but he lets you redo it, class is curved pretty heavily.
Professor Moll is not clear in what he's trying to teach. He does extremely long practice problems on the board where he figures it out as he goes and doesn't finish half of them. The TA is clearer and more structured in recitation.
Dr. Moll is amazing. THIS DOESNT MEAN THE CLASS ISNT HARD. Dr. Moll wants you to understand the hardest examples in order to do well. He is very caring of students so he will help you out if you dont get something. On tests, if you cant solve something but you explain what to do next with words, hell give you points. Hard class, great professor.
I loved the class. There was no homework which made it easier but also unclear of what is on the test. The lectures were slightly jumbled but Made it more interesting. The TA was definitely a good resource
His lectures are super funny, so they were enjoyable to attend. If you go to his lectures, there's no need for the textbook. There weren't any real exams for the semester because of Covid, but the homework sets and final are extremely difficult. But he's a fair grader and let's you redo homework. Definitely would take again!
The course is pretty hard. Professor Moll makes the lectures fairly interesting. He is nice and funny.
Professor Moll is clearly very passionate about the topic. The class is not easy, but he does a ton of examples in class which really help. HW and tests are difficult, but a fair grader and very understanding with deadlines.
The material is really tough, especially the homework sets and take-home tests. Professor Moll is generous with grading, though, and an interesting and kind person. It requires an excessive amount of time to complete the assignments, but there wasn't many and your grade reflects the effort you put in.
Professor Moll is one of the best teachers I've had in a while. He gives very tough homework and makes you really work for each question, but is always fair in his grading and deadlines. His enthusiasm and passion for maths is truly contagious. And the fact that he makes you do most of the work in groups means everyone can bond over hardship.
He can give you hard questions for homework. They take time and effort, and he requires group work for them due to their difficulty. He does not give you questions that are unsolvable and will help you figure questions out if you go to office hours. He is hilarious and will never fail to be a great resource in whatever direction you decide to go.
Professor Moll is the best math professor I've ever had. For a warning, the class is challenging: his assignments are advanced, so I wouldn't recommend taking his class if you don't care about learning math. Otherwise, the class is very collaborative, and Victor is very accessible outside of class. I'm doing a math minor because of him! 10/10 prof!
Dr. Molls class is rather difficult and relativity time consuming, however the friends Ive made from the arduous group homeworks are ones I plan to keep for my time at Tulane. It can be hard to follow if you havent seen AB and BC concepts, but he is easily accessible for help and wants to see you succeed. Cant say enough good things.
The class itself is very difficult but Professor Moll is very understanding and wants to see his students succeed and truly learn the material. The homework is done in groups which helped to bring our class together. I learned more in this class than I ever have in a math class.
Dr. Moll has been one of the highlights of my time at Tulane so far. Each lecture is entertaining and engaging, which is not something I have ever experienced in a math class. He's also extremely kind and a forgiving grader. With that said, this class will challenge your work ethic more than any other class at Tulane. It's difficult but worth it.
Professor Moll wants every single student to succeed, and he is accessible through email and office hours regularly. He knows that his course is challenging, but he is flexible with deadlines and understanding with grading. I learned so much about problem solving; such an interesting class. Easily the best math professor Ive ever had.
Dr. Moll really cares for his students. He is understanding and wants everyone to succeed. This doesnt mean hes going to hold your hand to reach that point. But he is there for all the help you need, you just have to ask. His grading system has a lot to do with effort. Also homework is assigned with groups, both positives and negatives about this
This was a fun, difficult and gratifying class. The group work was hard and took multiple nights of working together to complete a set. This class was VERY time consuming and if you put in the effort you will do well. All day I would look forward to his class because of him and his lecture style. If you need help with anything he is very available.
Professor Moll sure gives long and complicated homework assignments, but he is very generous with grading. The tests are not as complicated and he explains everything that is needed during office hours. As long as the student puts the work in Professor Moll will set you up for sucess and give you a good grade.
Inactive canvas page, everything done on paper. Lectures were proof-based and a background in calc is v helpful (mine was iffy but I’m still here). The hardest math class I’ve ever taken, but Moll is a genius and has you work on (v difficult) homework assignments in groups for a grade. Exams hard but curved. Go to office hours!
Dr. Moll is a great prof who clearly loves what he's teaching about! The tests can be pretty hard, but he's always willing to help students who need it and really wants to make sure everyone learns the material.
Amazing lecturer. You will learn a lot more in Dr Moll's class than if you had taken the same class with a different professor. He can be a little bit unprofessional when it comes to logistics and grading, but who cares? At the end of the day, you're paying for a math education, and you absolutely get your money's worth if you take Dr Moll's class
Best professor I've ever had. The class is challenging, but taking it with him is beyond worth it. I won't lie - he's tough - but you get out of this class what you put into it. If you show him you work hard, he's willing to work with you and it's so clear that he wants everyone to succeed. I've never had a professor care so much about his students
Moll is a very funny and engaging professor. The homework must be completed in groups of three and was very difficult, but he was quick to give extensions if needed and graded very favorably. The tests were take-home, and we were given months to complete them. He jumps quickly into the material and flies through lectures, so just be aware.
I love prof. Moll so much and he has been the only math prof I have enjoyed at Tulane. He was challenging in a fun way, if you have the opportunity to take him, do it, do it, do it. I would literally work my schedule around taking one of his classes again if I could.
I'm in MATH 3660 and 6300 with Dr. Moll, and he's my favorite professor. The material is difficult, but he makes it engaging. He was understanding when I was having a hard time in my personal life. He gave me a bunch of really interesting books he picked out for me. He's the kind of professor you'll want to keep in touch with after graduation.
Dr. Moll is my favorite math professor at Tulane by far. He makes content fun, and his lectures are heavy but interesting. I took consolidated calc and linear algebra with him too, and he's always accessible outside of class. He responds to students' needs, especially deadlines. Be prepared to be challenged, but you'll learn so much.
We meet once a week on Mondays, where we talk about great math concepts that you won't get in other classes. His lectures are super interesting, even though the material is so complex. We've been working on a large project to prove some integrals outside of class, and I've learned a lot from these meetings. Great course to take!
Professor Moll is an excellent professor and is passionate about the subject he is teaching. The class is difficult but he makes sure his students understand the material. Would recommend.
Professor Moll was a great teacher, he made lectures for complex analysis entertaining. Pretty frequently lectures are hard to follow in the moment, but the material comes together before tests. He was readily accessible for office hours as well as additional meeting times.
Fantastic professor! Group homeworks help encourage collaboration and understanding of the material. Tests are easier than homeworks & are generally comprehensive of the material.
To put it short, I plan on going into his office for life advice next year - thats the kind of teacher he is
Moll is an amazing professor and really good person. Lectures can be confusing and his classes are not for the faint of heart. However, you will learn about actual math problem-solving sitting in than any other professor. He is extremely hard and you have to attend to do well. But the class and group projects/homeworks/exams are extremely rewarding
Hard class but Moll cares for his students and wants you to do well. Group homework and quizzes, though quizzes don't really count for your grade. Go to his office and show commitment. Go to class and ask questions. Super vague about his grading but great prof
This class is very different from other math classes. There was nothing you were graded on, you just have to show up and pay attention to his lectures, which was easy because he is incredibly engaging. Hilarious man and brilliant mind. Would definitely take another Special Topics with him when he returns in Jan 2025.
Dr. Moll truly is a genius. Sitting in his lectures is entertaining if you like math, but he is also a great personality, so attending class is still fun for people who don't. However, the subject is difficult and the class is fast-paced. If you are willing to put in a lot of time and effort into homework/take-home tests, it is very rewarding.
I was so nervous the whole tine that I was failing but I literally did fine. He is rooting for you to get a good grade and will give you one if you put the effort in. he's very kind and good at his job. Go to office hours if you are confused! I didn't do that but I prolly should have
Dr. Moll is an insanely intelligent and supportive professor. Although this is a very difficult course, he acknowledges and rewards any and all effort that you put into the class. He is also extremely accessible outside of class via email or in his office. Overall, this class was very rewarding because Dr. Moll wants to see his students succeed.
Professor Moll is a very interesting and amazing person. He is passionate about the field and tries to help his students a lot. This was my most stressful and challenging class so far. You should take his classes if you really want to learn and are willing to put in the effort( at least that was the case for me). My advice work hard!
The class is hard, but Dr. Moll really wants you to understand. You can go to his office or email him anytime. All the tests have a take-home part that is crazy hard and must be done in groups but the actual tests are not terrible. He is a great man but the class is very hard. "This is the hardest class you will ever take at Tulane." -Victor Moll
Lectures can be tough to follow, and homework and tests are quite difficult. This is offset somewhat by the fact that homework is done in groups and tests are graded quite leniently, with generous partial credit given on questions you get wrong. He will generally try to give you a good grade if he perceives that you are putting effort in.
I respect that he is old-school, but it was frustrating not knowing were my grade stood because he doesn't use canvas and not having slides to reference because he gives the whole lecture on chalkboard, so take good notes. Other than that, Professor Moll is a genuinely funny, engaging, intelligent professor who will push you and reward effort.
I respect professor Moll. Recommend him 100% if you care to actually learn. I also enjoy going to his office! He always gives great advice.
Professor Moll truly cares about his students and wants you to learn! Homework and take-home tests are difficult, but you can work in groups and ask questions. Exam scores are curved based on effort, which helps your grade. My only complaint is he doesn't follow the syllabus and changes plans so it's hard to know what to expect or where you stand.
Moll doesn't make it easy but taking his class is definitely worth it. Don't be scared by the homework groups; you will be very grateful for them! His office is always open so extra help (and chit chat) is always there when you need it. Don't worry too much about how grades are calculated because in the end you will get the grade you deserve :)
Pf. Moll's lectures make little to no sense, and you never know what to expect when coming to class especially what will be on the test. The homework is hard and must be done in groups .You will low-key hate your life in class; HOWEVER, he is very caring about his students and wants you to do well! I do recommend him just be prepared!!!
Moll is very caring and will definitely notice when you come into office hours, but the lectures are very all over the place and the textbook does not help that much. Definitely the least straightforward math class I have taken, but it was very interesting. Homework and tests are very difficult but heavily curved. This class is not for everybody.
Could not ask for a cooler class on the mathematics of integration, such a great addition to the math curriculum. HIGHLY recommend he is awesome.
Fun lecture to attend and would reccomend for anyone interested in math. Moll even took requests from the students for lecture topics. (Dr. Moll if you're reading this, please let me cross-register for Number Theory next semester!!!)
This class was really interesting and fun to go to!
Professor Moll's classes are some of the most engaging and fun moments of my time at Tulane. He is not only a great lecturer but also an amazing mentor! This specific class (Spring 2025) was not driven by a strict syllabi but interesting tangents and exciting approaches to fundamental concepts - whether that is pi or algebraic numbers.
Hardest class of my life, but somehow professor moll made it interesting every time. My only request is the professor Moll teacher ODE's in Spring 2026!
Amazing professor. Teaches the material very well. Rewards you for putting in good effort and demonstrating improvement. Regarding 3000 level electives, Moll's number theory course is the best option in my opinion.
Incredible lectures, I learned many interesting things in this course. Professor Moll's office hours are accessible and very helpful too. 10/10 Course would take again
Number theory was a very difficult class and I almost dropped it but Professor Moll made it possible for me to do well in the course. He gave opportunities for corrections that showed he really cared about our improvement. He is very understanding and wants everyone to succeed. He is also very funny and made a hard class enjoyable.
