has good reviews, alot of extra credit is given... but the class can be kinda of pointless
No Comments
He is known to test you over material that he hasnt even covered by accident, but he does give you the option for a ton of extra credit. He is kinda vague, and makes the material realllly boring.
fun, discussion-type class
Could be a great class, but tests do not relate to material covered in class.
He is a great teacher, tests are fairly easy. He gives good reviews the class before the tests, if you study them, you'll get an A. He does try to make the class interesting. cool, nice guy.
he is the bomb
I don't go to my class because I am tired of those "older" students (like in their 40s and older) arguing in class. I learn nothing during class time whatsoever. it's waste of my time. I do my own studying, and I have an A in class. MAKE SURE you understand every sentence in text for exams.
Good lectures. Fun class.
He calls students out during class even in a class of 250. The lectures do not correlate with the tests. He is not understanding and very boring. If you don't like to read the material before class, do not take him.
Watches movies during beginning of class session. :) Gives xtra credit opportunities. Fun class. Just like every class, the effort you put forth is the grade you earn.
lectures don't cover info on tests. Read the book and you will do fine. Lectures can be interesting, but not always informative
his teaching style is different than most. which is a good break away from the norm. he initiates class debates which gives you an oppurtunity to get to know your classmates. he is laid back and very calm. but nonetheless a great professor.
He's a nice guy and a good professor. His lectures don't have anything to do with the test, but they are interesting. He doens't like to give a straight "yes" or "no" though.
seems really tough at first, but he's really nice and helpful. The lectures don't help much on the tests, but there are interesting small group discussions and quizzes EVERY class period.
he a great guy, probly pretty cool to get some coffee with. However when it comes to learning you will be teaching yourself class is pointless. Every assignment is not very well explain i.e papers projects. If you take a class with this guy just make sure you enjoy teaching yourself.
very nice guy, lectures don't have anything to do with tests, but you MUST go to EVERY class, there are quizzes every single class and group discussions/projects every class, the student involvment in this class is very high, but very interesting, go to class for quiz points and study book for tests
Could this class be full of an more bollshit? I think not!!!! The whole class hates him.
This class is not easy but you will actually learn a great deal of usefull information. He gives a ton of extra credit points, his test are not easy but he gives you a review sheet and also curves his tests! Although he can be extremely vague on what he wants for projects his TA's are great at helping. Take the class but be prepared to work.
This professor is horrible...He dosent know what hes doing or how to do it. Apparently this semmester he decided to restructure his class with a dumb project case studies and a moral story that is just pointless...recomend taking micek or mycek (sp?)
If you can find a different teacher to take ethics with I suggest you do it. He seems like a nice guy but his class is just to unorganized. Not a good class to have if you are taking more than 12 hours in a semester. Thers a lot of work to do out of class besides reading the book. And plus he takes forever to post grades so you don't know where
He is a really nice guy. Yes, what they say is true, the lectures don't have to do with the test, but the quizzes do. The quizzes are really helpful b/c you know what his tests will be like. The tests are somewhat hard, but he curves, and the projects are easy. I do know that if you take him in the summer its much easier.
He is a little hard but you do learn a lot and he is very helpful if you go and talk to him or the TA's.
The class is easy, we had 3 projects. His TAS do all his work. He's funny lectures are interesting, you won't fall asleep. Gives extra credit every other day for attending class.
Easy class, lots of extra credit just for showing up to class. One somewhat intensive project but other than that not hard. Easy A for me. Entertaing professor. His TA's do all his work other than lecture. Not a very organized class which in a way is good. Id take another of his classes.
Always bring your book to class, he uses case studies from it. Lots of E.C. in class so come on time and make sure you've done your readings. You have quizzes online for each chapter and 2 tests. He picks people to speak in the mic to the whole class almost every day. You also have a project. I got an A so it can be done. A fair guy
EASY A! However, this class is super boring. If you want extra credit, that's the only reason to go to class. Otherwise, its simply not necessary and might cut into your sleeping schedule. The Ethics project required a lot of effort, but was graded easily...I just felt bad for his slave-labor TAs.
Take the other teacher for this course! The guys lectures have nothing to do with the test or the quizes! He likes to show that he has a very extensive vocab and does this with the wording of questions on the test. I got an A but it was more trouble then what a core class should be!
This guy is not at all fair, in fact, he is very rude when you speak to him in person. He is very quick to make you feel stupid. His lectures are extremely boring, he does nothing and acts like he is big stuff. I dropped out of the class before I had the chance to fail one of his tests... I highly recommend any other teacher.
Don't take his course! I was in the honors section, and did this business ethical profiling project that was led horribly. Problems w/ webct were sluggishly solved, and feedback was very muddled. I would much rather have taken w/ teske and taken tests instead. Heller lectured in my class, but we weren't tested over it, so there was no incentive.
I took this course in the honors section. He can be vauge, but is very fair. He expects you to think for yourself, be prepared, and participate. This class was challenging, but excellent. He wants you to succeed and is always willing to help, but he won't do it for you. I plan on taking him again.
pretty easy class if you did the EIB project in the fall - although the EIB project was 10xs the amount of work than what i thought i was going to get out of - his TA does everything - Heller is a cool guy who doesnt really care too much and lets you think for yourself - but his tests were somewhat challenging.
Attendance is not mandatory but he gives extra credit periodically to those who show up. You will have to read each chapter and take a quiz on webct on it plus there are two fairly lengthy papers that you will have to write. All in all not bad but definitely more work than I expected to put in; got an A though.
False sense of security!! Be aware, this guy doesn't show you 40% of your grade all semester then gives you a letter grade lower than you deserve when final grades come out. Not a moment sooner. Easy class but this guy takes pride in watching people squirm at the end of the semester. FYI.
Whoever hates on heller is insane, very helpful teacher, he will be open to suggestions for change. lots of opportunities for credit. open book quizzes. grade=effort put into class. class interaction makes it fun. relaxed atmosphere. you will meet the people around you. dont pass up this prof.
Very Good Professor. Quizes and test are all online. Easy A or B!!!!
No attendance, but you have to turn in stuff everyday, so you have to go. online quiz every week, big paper due (completion grade), only 1 final test. but he's not a great teacher, very boring. always makes you discuss things with a group and you have to answer questions on front of class. wouldn't ever take him again.
nice teacher and class is a lot of fun with random activities and group things, but online everything which messes up all the time and not sure of your grade till very end so try hard and remember to go to class, but fun class
Attendance is part of your grade. Just trun in work. Overall most of your work is based on your own opion so its hard for you to get a wrong asnwer.
Dr. Heller is a good professor. However, I don't think it is fair that you have to buy a brand new textbook $133...the one he wrote. You can not buy a used one, unless it has an access code. You need the access code to access the syllabus and the text. I think it isn't fair to us students who actually have to pay for their schooling and books.
This was not a hard class. He almost always took attendance so try not to miss. The only thing I didn’t like was the way he randomly singled out people in the class to talk. He will make you get up in front of the class in groups.
Worthless core class. Book which he wrote is a must buy. Lectures for 1/4 of the class, then group discussions the rest. Grades are based on his opinion of how you "reflected" yourself in your work, no real guidelines. One major paper, which again, is graded on how deep you reflected on yourself. Only class I have ever dreaded showing up for.
After conversing with an L&M bookstore employee about Heller selling the textbook he wrote, he aptly described Heller as being an ethical dilemma himself. I couldn't have said it better myself. It's pretty sad when an off campus bookstore (non-student) employee thinks the ethics professor is an ethical dilemma.
You are required to buy the $133 textbook he wrote. You have to buy new in order to get the code to access the website where the book material is located. If you want a copy of the book you paid for, you have to print it yourself. The book is chocked full of misspellings.
Attendance is part of your grade. There is really no point in coming to class otherwise. The quizzes and lecture ppts on the internet. He gives the student leaders and unfair advantage by telling them exactly when he will take attendance. To bad the rest of the class doesn't have that kind of insider information.
This teacher is not organized at all the class is very easy but he can not keep track of your grades so KEEP all your scored papers just in case. You need to book as soon as possible because you must turn in papers from the book (yes you have to tear them out you can NOT buy a use book for this class) other then that its easy
Very easy and nice professor. He takes attendance on a random bases. Definitely keep track of everything you've turned in and when because he's made mistakes before. Gives plenty of extra credit to boost your grade. A lot of group and partner work. And be prepared to be called out to go up in front of the class to answer.
took him for business ethics. GREAT teacher, Very nice, Helpful, tells you in the first class exactly what you will be doing all semester. go to class and do what is asked and there is no reason why you shouldnt make an A. i ended up with around a 95 in this class. TAKE HIM!!! best ethics teacher!
Too much opinionated class/group discussion. Need more lecture time. The paper we had to write didn't make any sense. The attendance grade was not accurate most of the time.
This guy sucks. I don't know what I am making yet as the semester is not over yet, but the class discussions have nothing to do with what he assigns to read. We had to buy a worthless E-book with tons of grammar mistakes, which he probably wrote himself and you need to read a chapter from it every week and then take a quiz. The book is hard to read
The e-book we need to buy is too expensive but overall I found the class easy. Of course, I am unsure what my grade is so far. He changed the format this semester and majority of the class was online. I attended the first two weeks and that was about it.
This teacher is worthless. All the info needed for the class is in the ebook, and all assignments are online. He doesn't teach anything useful in class and he doesn't give attendance points, so going to class is a big waste of time. He's a waste of my tuition.
WORTHLESS!!!!!! The class is easy though a complete waste of time. The prof NEVER answers emails, is hardly ever in class, has you buy HIS over priced Ebook (he wrote it, ya thats ethical)easy A,just do the work online, I have wasted my money and time on this prof. I think if he were fired it would be in the best interest of UTSA. WORTHLESS!!!!!!
HE MADE OUR CLASS A HYBRID. EVERYTHING WAS ON LINE INCLUDING ALL TESTS. EASY CLASS!
THIS PROFESSOR IS A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. SELLING HIS OWN MATERIAL ISN'T VERY ETHICAL CONSIDERING HIS CLASS IS BASED ON ETHICS! BUT VERY EASY, EVERYTHING IS ONLINE..
First off, you have to pay $140 for the ONLINE book. Its ridiculous. The good thing is all the quizzes and tests are online. His lectures are pretty blah so if you don't mind buying a book with no pages, take this class for an easy A.
Such a pointless class, but a very easy a. Takes random attendance, 2 online quizzes a week, but very easy. I Never went to class, and got an A. Teacher is so boring however, but it does raise your gpa.
Go to class. He takes 5 attendances through the semester and he'll tell you that they'll be on Wednesdays only or something. Everything is online... the textbook, the quizzes, the EXAMS! Not too hard, but then again the questions are sometimes tricky. Be wise and it'll be an easy class. :)
Easy class, everything is on-line. I gave minimal effort and got an A.
this guy is nice, but every class you have to buddy up with a partner and discuss his daily topic, the work and everything is online which is easy but CAN be tricky as well. I was doing great in the class but the final killed me with 100 questions and they were timed so I ran out of time and missed a lot.
Easy class. Attendance not mandatory (or needed really..). In class activities are lectures, hour long videos and group work. Everything else online - not hard if you do the reading. I only went to class maybe 8 times before I threw in the towel and just did it all online. Passed with an A :)
This guy is really nice. Class is easy and can get interesting. You should easily get an A if you just put in average effort.
Welcome to the most boring, useless class of your college life! The class is easy, and if you show up he gives out extra credit just for being in attendance. His "lectures" have nothing to do with what your being quizzed or tested on, so you basically can tune him out, not a bad class just super boring.
Most of the class is online, quizzes, midterm and final, and even the textbook. Unfortunately, attendance is mandatory (25% of final grade)and his lectures have little or nothing to do with the subject work. Mostly consists of stupid group activities and videos. The class is really easy if you're the type that enjoys group work and boredom.
I took him online, and it was easy. He was always there to help and very nice. He does weekly discussions, but they are over relevant topics. He uses videos sometimes, and they can be long, but most of them are super interesting. Also, more than anything I love the textbook he uses! The author actually has a voice. It's funny and very real.
There is alot of work involved, weekly discussion boards, and weekly quizzes. Midterm and final was online. Everything is basically online, and all assignments, tests, and quizzes are timed. 2 mandatory meets. Offers an optional extra credit at the end of the semester. Its online, manage your time wisely and youll be ok.
This class is so easy! Everything is done online, and you get multiple attempts on the midterm and final. Weekly discussion board posts are interesting and relevant to current situations. He's always sending reminders and asking for feedback-- he makes expectations crystal clear for students. Definitely take him for your GBA for an easy A!
I'm usually wary about taking online classes. This one however went over great. For every topic we were asked to discuss it. This really drove it home and left me feeling like I had a better understanding of the topics. He has interesting videos for you to watch that relate to the topics also. Very good class on a hard topic.
He's an amazing professor. Always motivating you to keep going weekly, and offering his help. He is also very understanding! During the mandatory meetings with almost 300 students he would ask for suggestions to make the class better. Weekly quizzes come from the book, one midterm(half the chapters), one final (second half), weekly discussion board
EASY CLASS! Took online and a small discussion and 10 question quiz due once a week. Only 2 tests, midterm and final. You can take both test multiple times. Questions were easy and the teacher was very quick to respond and very helpful!
Take him! If you like online, he had such clear criteria and everything laid out simply. I haven't taken him in person, but I totally would!! TAKE HIM
one of the easiest online classes. He lets you take the midterm and final as many times as you like and keeps the highest grade.
I took his class online. The same assignments are due the same day of the week, so you can develop a routine to meet the requirements. The discussions were interesting enough and the quizzes were easy, mostly terminology based. Only midterm and final, but they are very similar to quizzes. He responds quickly to emails. Awesome professor! Take him!
EASY A! One 10 question quiz and discussion due each week. Only 2 tests, midterm and final and you can retake them as many times as you wish. He will only keep the highest grade. Most of the questions come from vocabulary so be sure to know them. Gives an extra assignment at the end of the semester in case you missed one or did poorly in the past.
Really easy online class. The modules are easy (one post and two responses). Almost weekly quizzes that are basically terms word for word from the book. He also offers a 25 point extra credit quiz towards the end. You do need the textbook. 200 question midterm and final, but they're easy. Definitely recommend! JUST REMEMBER THE DEADLINES EACH WEEK
Internet course, TAKE THIS COURSE! Seriously. Its a discussion question, a quiz, and two online finals THAT YOU CAN TAKE UNTIL YOU GET A 100! Best course, he sends out tons of reminders. He's so nice. Best course.
A LOT of reading in the first week of course!! Not many tests, so hard to recover if you do bad on one. Too many assignments! Just too many, one week I had 5 due because he didn't plan his class well ahead on time, he did not know how to use BB. He'd put 0 for homework not even assigned yet, was very tough to estimate final grade.
This class was an Internet class and a very easy A. There was a discussion post and quiz due every week that was extremely easy. Just get the online book and save your money there to get the definitions for all the quizzes and tests. Only 2 tests were a midterm and a non cumulative final. Those you can take as many times as you want.
TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE WITH HIM!!! You have 1 quiz and 1 discussion board a week. Grades very easy, and an easy A if you don't forget about the due dates. A mid term and final but also easy. All answers to quizzes and test are on the powerpoint & Quizlet. 0 in class time 100% online. Take class with friends and split the textbook if you buy it.
Prof Heller did a good job with this course. You have one discussion (300 words) and one quiz over the chapter each week. One midterm and the final. He sends messages almost every day and constantly reminds you that he's "here for you" and ends each one with a quote. Easy A.
This is an excellent course to take. Easy A just stay on top of your assignments and do the work. Make sure you keep all the power point slides so you can refer back to them during exams and quizzes if you need to.
Taking the online course. Easy A as long as you keep up with due dates. Typical week consist of a posting on a discussion board and chapter quiz. Highly recommend to read the textbook, although you can easily get by simply by skimming through the chapters.
Easy A if you keep up with the due dates. Taking the online class. Typical week consists of: - Discussion Board Post - Chapter Quiz Actually takes the time to read what you post on the forums, which Ive come to appreciate after the positive feedback he gives.
This class was an easy A. Short quizzes, and one discussion post each week. All definitions found in book. 2 exams in the semester that are long but you get 2 chances. Would take again!
Very easy class. Pretty much just a 300 word blog post every week with 100 word responses on two other students'. Occasional short quiz. Only two tests a midterm and a final, so you need to do well. The information is very straight forward, and the textbook is not a must if you have a basic understanding of right and wrong. Quizlet is your friend.
Way too much reading and I had noticed other comments on here saying stuff about quizlet is your best friend. Not in this course. Don't waste your time and take a different professor he makes it very hard to tell what your grade is in the class and doesn't give very well feedback when you email him.
This semester he's changed things up a bit and transferred from blackboard to a new confusing program called top hat. The grading criteria is all over the place and is very hard to understand. He is very picky on his grading on your discussion boards so prepare to kind of try hard in this class or just take a different professor!
This was the easiest online course Ive ever taken. It is through Tophat, and there is a chapter due every Sunday which involves about 6 discussion questions with 100 word responses(very easy), and also a quiz. The quiz answers are found throughout the chapter. Got an A+ because the discussions are just asking for your opinion.
Dr. Heller is not bad at all. Yes, quizlet doesn't help, yes hard to know the grades, but trust me it was very easy to pass. few stuff to read and videos to watch and you have all the answers and the ideas for writing.
Fantastic professor. He truly cares about the students
So this entire course is done through tophat. There is a chapter due every Sunday and it takes me about an hour to get through. It's about six 100-word responses and a 10 question quiz every Sunday. This class is actually really enjoyable and makes you think ethically about situations and decisions. By far one of my favorite courses I've taken.
Everything was fine in this course until he gave the last module a 3 day period for completion (everything else 7) which made me miss it by one day and get a B for the course. I couldnt even ask him for help or reconsideration. Easiest course ever but dont let his selfish want-to-end-the-semester-early deadlines get you.
Very easy class, If you actually read his lectures it makes you evaluate ethical behavior in a very interesting way. The material is very well thought of.
This class was so easy. The whole thing was on Tophat and there is no need to show up unless you want the randomly awarded extra credit for showing up. Lectures are super boring and monotonous. Easy class nonetheless. Tophat assignments due every Sunday night usually takes an hour.
A great professor. Quizzes and papers.
Not bad. Only 30 minutes worth of HW every week due Sunday. Did not really interact with him at all, so if you're looking for a Prof that gets involved, he aint it. But the HW is just read a paragraph/ situation and respond with your opinion & like 10 multiple choice questions easy online.
He had me fooled in GBA 3013. It was so easy. Then I took him again this semester for MGT 4893. No lectures at all. Only a powerpoint and read the chapter yourself. Quizzes were overly difficult and some questions not even covered in the text. On top of that we had to use proctorio. Half the class failed. Take him for ethics but not MGT 4893.
Had to purchase a book called Rethinking the Post-Pandemic Organization. This is a textbook the professor wrote. It was not free and costs $58. There are no lecture videos. You will be teaching yourself everything in class.
Has provided unclear instructions that left the ENTIRE class confused. Not even two months into the semester and he changed our syllabus already. Not super ethical for an ethics professor. This class is an easy A though, just a lot of busy work.
Pros: no exams at all, no final, no stress. Cons: Expensive materials needed to do the assignments, and a lot of writing involved. If you're like me and don't mind writing a lot, and prefer that over taking exams this is the class for you. Easy A.
The professor was always there whenever we needed to ask them questions which I appreciate, however, the course was quite unorganized. At some points in the semester, the syllabus was completely different from what the required material was stated to be, and we students were constantly confused about what was required of us in order to receive an A
Uses Top Hat which gave my class a difficult time, also have to buy textbook and top hat. Various discussions and quiz questions every week and 3 group assignments.
Fast in replies, however get ready to just learn from a website reading, not him.
This course is fairly straightforward. For each module, there is a Smartbook reading and a homework assignment. Additionally, there are 2 exams, which are proctored, but is also open-note (you can use the book and your own notes).
He is one of the worst teachers i have ever taken. Made us pay 200 dollars for mcgraw hill, made smartbooks unbearably long and difficult to the point it took me 3 hours to complete. Not only that this dude made our exams proctored and put all the chapters we did into 1 exam, we had to study 6 chapters for our midterm with no review. Plz avoid.
Last class to take as an online B.B.A Cyber Security Major with a minor in Digital Forensics. Worst exam structure ever in life. 2 proctored exams worth 300 points each out of 1000 points total. Ridiculous. Memorize (don't try to learn) ALL of the information - if you want to do well. Absolutely horrific. Good Luck folks, may the force be with you!
HW and Smartbook per week. All HW is open at the start, so can finish HW early which is great. Mid-term and final were proctored, but reversed policy for the final by some Christmas miracle. Relies heavily on McGraw Hill, but is responsive to email and sends announcements. Curved grades at the end. Tests are hard, so do well on HW to have buffer.
Tough class, but Unstuck study was a lifesaver for exam prep. Lectures are just PowerPoints - you'll need to really engage with the textbook. Exams are proctored and cover a ton of material, so definitely don't slack on the Smartbook readings.
Look, this class is horrid. The grade criteria is against you. UTSA should either revamp this class or get rid of it. All I learned was how much a horrible class can ruin your 4 years in one semester. If you didn't have to take this class, DON'T. Unfortunately, I have to and I hate it. I thought I had a bad class b4, this one tops it! Awful!!!!!
