please don't take this teacher he is horrible!!!!
This guy was horrible. He was very hard to learn from. Another older teacher would sometimes st through his class and told me outside of class that he was teaching us incorrectly. I would not reccomend this teacher unless you enjoy staying after class to ask alot of questions and still come up empty.
Professor Hernandez is an excellent foundation teacher. He gives quizzes once a week; however if you've completed your homework, you shouldn't have a problem. I passed each one of his exams with an A and scored an A on his final. I've been searching the catalog in order to have him instruct me AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr.Hernandez is probably the best math teacher i've ever had. He breaks math down so that anyone can understand it and he has endless patience. People would ask the same question 5 times and he'd still explain it. He doesn't take any crap, and stays true to his word. I hope to take him for all my math classes at HCC!
Mr. Hernandez was an excellent professor! Very clear on instructions and very fair on his grading scale. If you tried and showed an effort he was fair to you. You cannot fail if you do the homework. I finished with an A and I've been out of school for 25 years! Loved him! Take him if you get the chance! Great professor!
Expects you to already know everything. Doesnt like taking the time to go back and explain things.
Don't take this teacher. He expects you to know everything, and, if more than two questions are asked in class, he'll cut off questions saying that we don't have enough time. He'll also only go over two problems from the homework. He explains each concept once - quickly - then moves on - also quickly. This teacher is just not a good teacher.
He makes math very easy to understand,do the extra credit homework and pay attention in class you will get an A!
I loved this class and professor! He makes things so crystal clear. He takes his time with students and make sure everyone understands before moving on. I have grown to love math with him, and I am looking forward to taking his class throughout my time at college.
Professor Hernandez is a great instructor of math 0308. He is very easy to understand and he always came very well prepare for class
He's very attentive and helpful to his students, didn't like his method of teaching at first but slowly got used to it. He goes strictly by the book. Exams are not easy. I'll only recommend if your'e willing to learn and not looking for an easy A. Don't think he missed a class throughout the semester unlike some profs. Attendence is mandatory.
Hernandez is completely lost on how to teach students what he knows in a way that we can understand. The book used in the class was the nail in the coffin paired with this professor. AVOID!
I swear this is the best math teacher. I've taken him for both trig and precal and planned to take him for cal 1 and 2. He is very helful, he answers all your questions, explains problems clearly and he also gives extra credit points for the tests. He is a great teacher, TAKE HIM!!!
Amazing teacher! Actually teaches for understanding not mindless memorization. Helpful, funny, and cute. Totally recommend to others and will take agian for future courses!
Easy going teacher, lots of extra credit assignments which are easy, answers questions until he is sure everyone understands what he's teaching. I plan to take him again for College Algebra!
Took in 5wk summer class. Studied so much and still did horrible on tests. They are not multiple choice. Worst experience I've ever had with school. Overwhelming and too stressful! He is not willing to give you extra credit to up your grade even if he sees you are studying your butt off. Smartest person got a B. Don't take if u care about your GPA.
This guy is not a teacher. He is unable to explain the material in a way that is easily understood. Only take if you prefer to teach yourself, I've learned absolutely nothing from Mr. Hernandez.
He is a young professor who is organized and takes his job seriously, but often does not explain the material in a simple fashion. Tests aren't multiple choice, but extra credit is provided. He doesn't teach straight from the book. He plays favorites w/ his students by bending the rules, but his grading remains fair. Mymathlab was very helpful.
i could barley understand what this guy was saying and when he brakes methods down for you understanding it still seems as if its the hardest was possible.. i had to drop the class because i was going to fail.
I took him for Calculus 2 for the summer and his class was easy. He explains every math problems clearly, but sometimes he doesn't pay attention to what he writes on the board, which can throw you off. His extra credit assignments helped me a lot for the exam. He's a cool professor that tries to entertain the class and go easy on his students.
Took him for Pre-Calculus Spring 2013. He was difficult for me to follow in the beginning because of his speech patterns ( no accent - just speaks VERY fast ). He also writes on the board as fast as he speaks. By mid-semester it was easier and he is VERY helpful when you ask questions even outside of class. Homework will not count towards grade.
Not helpful at all!!! Asked for help and none was given. I would never take this class with this professor ever!!!!
I think he is a great teacher he helps when you ask and he takes his time. He does do a lot of steps to the problems but if you want to learn then he is a great teacher
I took this class for the mini session (Summer II). Since i am very horrible in math, i thought i couldn't do it, but this professor was very helpful. I strongly suggest him however you have to dedicate a lot of effort to it. He is very fair, just keep in mind you can't cut the corners with him!
Professor Hernandez is not an easy teacher, i barely passed his class with a C, i worked very hard for it( i am an A student) Take him only if you are a math genius else u will struggle like i did.
He can do math but, he is Not a good teacher. He talks too fast and doesn't explain things clearly. He will interact mostly with students who already learned the materials. We come to school to learn not because we already know. He is always in a hurry and tests are 10 q. if you missed 1 or 2 Q. You will not get that A.
Rude with tests.10 questions Not multiple choice and really hard
He is a really cool teacher. In fact an amazing teacher; has the ability to respond to your questions via email very fast. His lectures are not long and clear, straight to the point
I took him for 0312 but had to retake 1314 and I'm glad I chose him again because he is way easier than the teacher I had before. I understand his work better and makes the assignments easier. You need the book because his homework is out of there. Thank God! I don't like MyMathLab.
He was a good teacher. I had to drop the class because I would have failed. His tests are like 10 questions so you miss 1 or 2 you will not get good grades. He spends a lot of time on the people who seem to get the work not on those who need help.
I spent more money on tutors then for the class. He was a horrible teacher who failed me after I tried my best! I would feel extremely confident when given the tests, but would always fail! DO NOT TAKE HIM! I have a never failed a class before, but he broke that record. He never told me my last test and final grade either! AVOID HIM!
I love this professor ! Calculus is a hard subject in general but he makes it very easy to understand. Tests are around 10 questions that you have to workout manually just make sure to take good notes and do HW (which is extra credit on test). He makes last semester tests available for review so that you have a heads up on what to expect.
He his good when it comes down to explain the material in class; even the home work. The problem comes done to his test, he makes it 10x harder then the work we do in class. If you are not a big math person, and trying to raise your GPA, I advice you not to take him.
I took foundation to mathematics with professor Hernandez, and honestly I had never really understood math very well until I took his class!! Things I struggled with all through high school, he'd explain and it would just click with me! He's definitely enthusiastic, I just wish he was teaching the next level in my math class!!
Professor Hernandez Is amazing ! He is very clear , if you don't eunderstand a problem he will go over it and makes sure you get it . he is very helpful , he will stay after class if needed. He makes math so easy ! I will definitely take him again.
Mr. Hernandez is wonderful in Math, he just doesn't know how to teach. He has a very bad temper, that I honestly think he can't control. He needs anger management. I don't mind a challenge but his teaching skills are 0. If you find yourself in this class get ready it's horrible
He makes the class very interesting. He gives tons of homework. But the homework helps you study. 5 tests 1 final. Most people in the class was passing. Exams are not complicated. You have to put in the work to study. I recommend him.
he is not clear, he all over the place you trying to learn math not history, and its soo over complicated. to the point of confusion. he knows math but he cant teach. his tests are confusing and extremely hard, sometimes your not even sure he even lectured on it. the home work is insane to much plus the extra credit don't be fulltime or work.
Professor Hernandez was a very good teacher. He's funny. He helped students understand topics they didn't understand. He answered questions and taught at a good pace. The MyMathLab homework was a bit excessive and it was mandatory. He also gave an extra credit opportunity for each lesson. Overall, I enjoyed him as a professor.
It is a math class so you can always expect it to be a little difficult. Especially for a guy like me who's been out of school for 7 years now. The first few weeks were very tough on me since it's pretty much a pre-algebra review that goes really fast, but after that, I did much better. His tests are hand written and he gives credit to what you do.
Great teacher. If your late to class, don't do homework or study, you will probably fail: such is life. This guy makes math fun, and is a real teacher. So do the work and you will get the grade you earn.
This professor gives homework for extra credit on tests. Few tests, no extra credit in the final and drops the lowest test grade with the final. He's an extremely fair grader, approachable and will answer any question without discouraging you in front of the class nor during office hours. I respect the professor greatly. Excellent at teaching.
Gives a lot of homework, however, his exams are insane! I understood the math, but he wouldn't give us enough time to complete the exam. He does drop the lowest exam if you do well on the final. I study a lot, and I'm also a physics major, and his class was still too much for me. Good luck if you decide to ignore my post!
he is really good and he know how to tech people in easy way although its not easy way to do that with math
Professor Hernandez will show you how to rearrange simpler identities to form more complex ones instead of just forcing you to memorize them. He gives 15-25 hw problems each class which accumulates to 10 extra credit points on test day. He has a slightly dry sense of humor if you like that. I highly recommend this professor!
As funny as a math teacher can be, he is a pretty good teacher. If you are just responsible enough to be there, and listen, he makes the math understandable. There is homework, but it really isn't that much. He drops the lowest test grade which is AWESOME.
I've never done well in math but I'm a hard worker and will always try my absolute best. During this class, I did all homework assigned and met with a tutor to review for every test. I listened in class and took as many notes as possible. I was STILL failing horribly. After meeting with him in his office and him not offering any guidance, I dropped
He is a good professor, he explains things very clear, but the class is very fast. There are many things to cover, so we were always running to get everything covered. The homework is per chapter, you have to do about 20/25 exercises. You do not need the code for online access. There are 4 tests, plus the final. It isn't easy, but not hard if study
I took this class over a summer mini so the pace was fast, but he is very clear in his lectures. Again, he is VERY fast paced, but don't be discouraged by that! If you need extra help he makes himself available and the math tutors on campus are helpful as well.
He's a really good professor-one of those who actually knows his subject and knows how to teach it. He grades fair and square and has extra credit for homework. He's simple and straightforward.
Do not take this professor. Assigns homework for extra credit but doesn't even review all of it so you can't get all the extra credit. Do not take this professor AT ALL!!!
he grades very hard, he moves at a fast paste, gives about quizzes and grades them t o the extreme he is sort of a difficult professor but he has a nice sense of humor and well explains his material
Do not take this professor he grades very hard he will not pass you, he is extremely difficult. he teaches very good but he expects you to meet his standards he is very hard.
One of the hardest teachers I've ever take. Expects you to love math as much as he does, he literally just stands at the board and talks to himself about math for 3 hours. And expects you to magically learn from osmosis. He's a cool dude but as a horrible teacher.
Mr. Hernadez knows a lot and more important, knows how to teach things. His tests are difficult, but he gives a study guide and if you study, sure A or B!!!
I suck at Math + Im not about to blame a teacher for that. Its Thanks to his enthusiasm+ structured teaching that I am passing. He is quite funny too! Nothing better than a prof who comes to class ready to teach a bunch of unenthused students. Offers plenty of help + hmwk for some added points. Id take him over+over again. No one is left behind
I Would take Professor Hernandez again , he teaches carefully and goes the extra mile to understand different learning styles. I dont speak a lot in class and often to my detriment, but he is always motivating us to keep trying. He knows how to keep us engaged and ready to ask questions. Great professor, and loves what he does!
He is clear and concise in his explanations of various concepts and is an exciting lecturer. Reasonable in how tests are structured and graded. Of course, one still must invest significant time outside of class doing homework and studying to make an A, as it's Calculus. Ive taken him for Precal, Cal1, and Cal2 and its been great each time.
Amazing professor, he will make you laugh with his silly jokes. He will give you homework everyday but it's optional. Homework is for extra credit, if you do it all that's count for extra credit for every test. He thinks people shouldn't be fail just because they didn't attend class. exams are not so hard. take it guys.
Probably the worst math professor that I have ever come across. I am a 4.0 GPA and have gotten A's in all my math courses and I knew that I would not pass his class with an A because of his teaching. He does not know how to teach and will make it more complicated than it is. Don't take him he is horrible.
awful
Prof Hernandez cares about your understanding of the material, and explains topics in a step-wise manner that helps you follow every part of the concept. He is very clear, teaches at a good pace, and is available to help you outside of class during office hours. You have to do the mathlab hw to get a good grade. you won't find a kinder math prof
Took his summer class for CALC 3. He has a fair grading system, if you complete all the hw(which is a lot) you get 10 extra points on an exam. His lectures are fairly good, however, he spends too much time in proving theorems. He seems charismatic and nice but he was absolutely condescending and rude to me when I reached him outside of class
We have 4 tests, 1 final. All the test would be add 10pts for extra credit if you do the assigned homework. The tests are based on the homework, so as long as you do all the homework and understand the main concepts, you should be fine. Also the test is 10 questions, including 1 theorem question in each test, the rest is show work problems.
He writes everything on the board, so you will have great notes, as long as you don't miss a class. No calculators on exams administered by him, but can use a standard calculator on Midterms and Finals only. You will pass this class as long as you do your Connect Math. Also, extra credit is given for regular exams.
He writes everything on the board, so you will have great notes. DO NOT MISS A CLASS. NO HOMEWORK IS GIVEN Only extra credit for regular exams. You can use calculators in the class. ON MIDTERMS AND FINALS, if you have a graphing calculator, HE WILL FACTORY RESET YOUR CALCULATOR. If you have a very expensive calculator, DO NOT USE IT IN HIS CLASS!
He is definitely the worst math professor. I highly recommend you find someone else.
Worst professor at hcc. He thinks hes teaching at A&m or UT. Super difficult to pass. Such a cold hearted guy. Needs a girlfriend. Has a really bad temper, will try to be nice first few weeks, tests are impossible to get an A. No type of extra credit or partial credit on exams. Either get the question 100% right or no credit
Only take him if hes the last professor available. Youll regret taking him.
This guy just over complicates stuff so quick, if the class starts with 30 people, come final only 8 will still be in class and i can assure you there will only be 2 people that pass the class if any. Tries to copy his old professors which taught at UT and are expected to be tough, but youre at hcc... come on just help us learn and pass.
Spend your money on someone else haha. Foreal tho. He aint it chief
Difficult professor and hard test. Avoid this professor thinking he teaching at UT and trying to copy his old professors. Ive done good in my math classes but he said hold up Ima end this student career.
He teaches okay but his test are insane. He grades harder than anyone Ive met before and i went to Carnegie high school.....
All these reviews are not true. Yes, he is a bit fast paced but if you ask questions he will go back and explain slowly. Very nice guy. Gives 10 points on test grade if you do the homework assignments. He puts old exams as reviews on canvas. They are very helpful. If you do your review and go to tutoring once or twice a week you will do fine.
Took him in the summer, exams were harder than the spring exams never taking him for cal he trash im taking retaking cal with another professor and i have an A & he is a tougher grader but at least he explains everything 10x better
Mr. Hernandez is very passionate about his work. He is an excellent professor and doesn't just "read from the book" so to speak. His lectures are very clear and informative. Homework was optional, but gives extra credit if you do them. If math isn't your strong suit, I wouldn't worry. As long as you pay attention, study, and practice you'll pass.
The negative reviews given to him are NOT true, all those people are just lazy and most likely did not even try. Highly recommend going to his office hours as he will help explain anything. Do the homework and understand the concepts and you will get a decent grade in his class. Hes definitely a fair grader with partial and extra credit.
He's tough, gotta be a beast in math before you try calculus with him because he will not explain any of it, the algebra is the hard part of calculus so why not explain it whenever students have questions. He's very fair grader but his tests are not fair since only 1 student or none would get A's.....
Exams are crazy hard
Hw is useless and exams are hard. Exams are nothing like hw or lecture avoid him.. I rather wait another semester than to take him again!!!!!
Terrible
**Real review ( I don't normally review but...)**DO NOT take this professor, He reads STRAIGHT from the book and doesn't know the material AT ALL. Will give a bunch of homework(out the book) and a review with NO ANSWERS to make sure your even doing it right. And who does 40% on the final..(This guys does)
His lectures are fast-paced, super organized, clear, and concise. Homework isn't mandatory, but counts as extra credit on the tests (which comprise the entire grade, minus the one he drops). I'm not good at math, but when I attended all the classes and did the homework I did well. Plus, his tangents from tangents are always funny and interesting.
BEST! Inspiring, kind, and explains very well. He is passionate and dedicated. Partial credit if work is shown. HW is all from the textbook. 4 exams and he prepares you well for the departmental final. I highly recommend to anyone that likes math but struggles with it. Lectures are just taking down the notes as he gives definitions, examples, etc.
prof Hernandez is a great teacher. made the transition semester from in class to online easy. Easily reach to him by email or office hours. Gives extra credit when you do the study guide which actually helps you studying
I don't know about face to face class but DO NOT TAKE HIM ONLINE. He doesn't do lectures but posts lecture videos. His homeworks are for extra credit so your grade is entirely based on your exams. AND THEY'RE THE HARDEST EXAMS EVER. I'm not good at math, so I study all day every day for one exam and I AM NEVER PREPARED.
If you wanna get to know and build a strong relationship with your prof, don't take him, he has no time and no enthusiasm for that. He taught a bunch of classes, and his 2-hour OH is used for all of them. I really regret that I took him.
He doesn't work with you nor try to help you. He wants you to fail. His exams are ridiculous compared to how much he works with us, yet he grades hard too. Unless you're really good at math DO NOT TAKE HIM
This was my third time taking Trig and wish I would have taken him from the beginning. You get out of the class what you put in, his lectures are amazing, very helpful. Went over your test with you if you asked. Lots of homework but nothing crazy, doubles as prep for the test. Will definitely take him again.
Prof. Hernandez is a gem of the math dept at HCC. He teaches systematically, is EXTREMELY clear in explaining complex ideas. I never felt lost or confused. He allows time for you to copy down what he's doing as well as think in between steps so you understand what's going on during class. Ask for help if you don't get it. I wish he taught Physics!
Mr. Hernandez is a nice person, however, the course I took was online so, it was self-taught. He has very informative on his videos but when it came time to ask questions, he can only give you 15 minutes of his time during your scheduled meeting. Even though I was doing the extra credit and assignments I was failing the tests which were very hard
I took Professor Hernandez for Math 0324. While his lectures were informative, he did tend to ramble a bit. He also showed methods that did not apply to the homework. If you had questions regarding work you are going to be referred back to your book. His exams also count for 60% of your final grade. You have to be brilliant in math to take him
This Professor is by far the worst professor I've taken. No understanding of students struggles during COVID 19 . Professor wants you to fail and wont help his students pass out at all. No test reviews and expects you to teach yourself. Avoid this Professor he is a waste of money. Worst experience in college ever. Do Not Take HIM!
Do not take him his grades are just purely tests, and he'll have questions where you can't study for you just know it or you don't. Majority of our class dropped him and he has no test reviews/final reviews. You are on your own.
Professor Victor Hernandez is great mathematician. He gave us the right materials to study and plenty of extra credit work. Math is always hard but he always breaks down the problems so that we all understand. He's very respectable, cheesy math jokes, and overall very helpful. Don't be afraid to ask question! He will help!
Formatted the class in the worst way possible. 4 tests and 1 final that's it. His tests don't match what we do for homework or in class and he's not very helpful. I spent so much time studying and doing the practice and still was failing. I should've listened to the reviews.
He was a really knowledgeable teacher and was excited about what he taught. Easy to understand. Memorize formulas for exam. The homework was for extra credit points on the tests (and there are a lot of hw problems) but you technically don't have to 100 percent finish them to still get some points. Grade: exams and final, drops lowest exam.
Professor Hernandez was a great professor. He explains theorems and definitions very clearly during class lecturers. He gives a lot of extra credit per exam (but you need to do a lot of assignments to get them). However, I think it was worth it since those assignments helped me prepare for the exams. He also allowed a formula sheet for final exam.
I hate this guy. No one made an A in the class, and only 1 person made a B. His class is based solely on test reviews that have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the exams. Also he never gives out answers keys to his tests or tells you what the right answer was on test questions you got wrong, you can't learn you have to teach yourself everything. Run.
Prof Hernandez explains the material well (when asked will explain in more detail) Expects you to know previous materials He leaves it up to you to put in the work (it's college not HS) When asked he will work through the entire problem make sure you understand Need an easy A he's not for you. Want to learn and a good foundation, take his classes
I took him for summer, but he was very well thorough in his explanations. There are many resources in the class to help you succeed but a bit overwhelming considering the pace of a summer class. Only major complaint I had was the distance between our penultimate exam and final being 2 days, but that isn't the fault of the professor but the campus.
Okay, really hard, but great class. Great professor and explains in detail. Goes over anything you want. Has a sort of test review, and gives up to ten points extra credit through optional homeworks. Yes, its hard and the tests are difficult. Not a class your gonna breeze by in. Must actively work and study but its rewarding. Drops exam to. Amazing
Professor Hernandez is wonderful. He explained all the materials easily to understand. His class structure is a bit tough, with only 4 exams and 1 final. He will drop your lowest exam. However, this class itself is tough, so don't expect easy exams. DO HOMEWORKS, he will give you 10 extra credits for each exam (optional).
Let me tell you that on the first exam the average was a 36. Again, 36. That is 36/100. For a first exam and that low of an average? He literally brings questions out of the textbook and lectures. All these reviews are FAKE and people in the class DROPPED. Reported him multiple times to the department of math. Also, he does not curve, avoid him!!!!
Taking this class in Spring '24 and I usually write reviews when semester end, but could not wait honestly. He is horrible. I would 100% delay my graduation if he was the only professor available. The class was that bad and all the averages for exams were less than 50. I do not know how this is allowed. His class is harder than taking it at U of H.
I would not take this professor again. He is very harsh. It is impossible to get an A in his class because his final exam is worth 35%. So you would need to grind in order to pass his class. I do not recommend it, not even worth your mental health. I have been crying for days because of this class.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A HARD PROFESSOR LIKE HIM BEFORE. PLEASE FIND SOMEONE ELSE, HE IS SO BAD. HIS EXAMS DO NOT MATCH THE HOMEWORK OR HIS LECTURE. AGAIN, DO NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TAKE HIM
Please do not take this professor. Do not let the rating fool you because all the good reviews are fake. His actual rating would be a 1/5. LOTS of people dropped from his class. All his tests are questions from probably Calculus 5 class not Calculus 2. Just go find another better professor. This has to be the worst math professor I have ever taken
I took his latest exam and there was 15 answer choices for one question!!!! Keep in mind it was select all that apply question, and his tests are 13 questions and each question is HEAVILY weighted. It is SUPER hard to pass his class because also his final exam is worth 35% of your grade. Failing is very easy.
Grade is based on 4 exams (with the lowest being dropped) + a final. All require lockdown browser. Can get extra credit of up to 10 points if you finish that exam's homework. Can miss up to 4 classes or be dropped. Would not recommend if you don't like math! He can be very rude when answering questions. Do not expect any leeway from him.
Awful professor. Period. I could write 10 pages of how bad the exams were and he was careless. Oh, and the final was worth 35%? Say bye to your grades.
Take this professor. I struggle a lot with math, but this professor still remembers what that was like himself. He explains material as easily as possible, shares tricks learned from his own experience, and will actually show how to do difficult homework problems if you ask. You still need to study hard, but he's the best shot you're going to get.
Horrible professor that will continue to rate himself "good". I literally had to cry every single night because I was suffering from his class. Calculus 2 is such a hard course but Professor Victor will get questions that were never seen in this universe before. Be carful what you sign up for!
All I got to say is that HCC has the worst math professors ever. I thought he would be "ok" but was the most unfair, difficult, not helpful professor ever. His exams were never fair and all of the questions were from outside of the book. Do not register in his class because a lot of people dropped sadly.
He could be better. He's not awful, he's not horrible, but He could be better. Calc 2 is already a hard course, and he made it even worse, He could be better. Not Horrible, but he could be better. If you have any other choice, I'd recommend going for that, but if he's your last option, then he's not entirely horrible.
Very difficult class and Professor H. made it 10 times harder. I tried to solve the exam questions after the exam was posted to everyone and it was impossible to solve them even when using my notes. The class was alright but his exams are very very hard
Very bad
No Bueno. No formula sheets, no dropped exam, no help. His teaching style is inadequate, insecure, and confusing. He struggles to effectively communicate the information, making it difficult to understand. His self-centered mentality has a damaging impact with student learning. And now colleges are closing at a rate of one a week.
Disappointed with my experience with this math instructor. He struggled to explain concepts, due to his lack of understanding. The lectures were dull, and his condescending attitude towards students is so cringe. Like bruh, you have one job. That's to teach. He can't even do that right. Ima have to say pass! Save your time this guy is NOT the one.
I took the 4-week Calculus II course in the summer with Prof. Hernandez, and came away impressed overall. The lectures are of course very content-heavy, but if you take notes and do the homework promptly on the same day, the exams themselves are refreshingly straightforward. There are 4 tests and one final, with the lowest test being dropped FWIW.
This class was something else... Omg... Anyways, I called my therapist to start a new session, this class took my mental health somewhere and the professor does not care. I hope if there was a way to have the professor pay my therapy bills
Currently taking Calculus I with Prof. Hernandez and it's been great. He answers questions at the beginning of every class and during his office hours. He offers up to 10 points of extra credit on each exam simply for doing the homework. As long as you have the slightest bits of motivation, discipline, and willingness, you will be completely fine.
He requires you to know the information like the back of your hand. His class also involves quite a bit of memorization. Exams are worth the majority of your grade.
He is just okay not good, not bad but you need to know math to succeed in his class If you are only average at math don't take him, exams are EXTREMELY HARD However he does offer an extra 10 points for each exam if you complete the homework. The final exam is worth 30% of your overall grade Would I take him again? No, his class is not for the weak
His teaching style is weak and below average. Which is expected since he only has a graduate degree in math. At times it's so obvious that he doesn't know the material he's teaching. And when students call him on it, he gets defensive and attacks them. Class structure is disorganized and lacking. His attitude is patronizing and unstable. Nope!
Not my first, second, or third choice but ran out of options. Not a prof interested in helping students learn. Exams are out of whack. No formula sheets, no homework, and no guidance. Encourages classmates to drop out of school and says things like “my class isn't for the weak”. Hmm, really? Just don't do it. You deserve and can find better!
I was crying every time I was driving to his class... I regret taking this at HCC, I saw what my friends at UH were taking for calculus and it was a lot easier than what victor was teaching.
First off, I'm a math major. Math is my jam. But this instructor is just wrong. He gets mad if you are good at math. Like what? No joke. Deducts points for no reason. Makes up exam problems even AI says aren't real. Crazy! Read the bad reviews. There's truth in them!
Idk y he's prof Hernandez is rated this low, he should be a 4 at minimum. He's a pretty good professor, and his lectures are amazing and straightforward. If u actually know how to do the hw, you'll do great cuz the exams r hw based, and the final is based off the regular exams.
ik the reviews are insane but you'll survive the class.. it's calc 3 so you better know your calc 1 and 2. he gives reviews that are pretty similar in concepts, exam questions come from hw which are 10pts extra credit for each exam (hella questions). took him summer 1, 4exams 1 drop and final exam questions pulled from exams. do your hwwww!!!
I took Calc 3 with Prof. Hernandez for Summer Mini Session 1. It was a super hard but equally as rewarding. He knows a lot of useful background mathematics info and his stories and quirkiness makes lectures fun. DO ALL THE HOMEWORK. He is lenient on computation but harsh on concept. This course is really sink or swim so be prepared to work or fail.
These reviews are definitely misleading. He does send a lot of hmw due the day of the exam as practice, but if you do it all or the most part you can get 10 extra points on the test, and the exams are taken from hmw questions. The final is made up of the exam questions and you get a cheat sheet. If you practice and pay attention you should be fine.
Prof. Hernz's class can be either your nightmare or it can be an easy straight A. The secret is old test reviews, PLEASE do them, and homework—they're A LOTS, so be sure to do them every week at least, but you only need to do a majority of them. And come to his office too. That's how you got 100+ for this class, people :)))) Yes, it's possible!!!
I prayed every day that I would get a flat tire instead of attending his class. I would never wish this class on my worst enemy.
hes learning the subject with us. Literally started reading the textbook for 10 minutes in the middle of class, highly recommend to take another professor
This man could make 1 + 1 = 2 sound confusing. I've met Wi-Fi signals with more consistency than his explanations. Taking this class tanked my confidence, my grade, and my will to do math ever again. Drop it while you still can.
If you don't have a religion, get one and pray
Where do I even begin.. if you have other options for a professor go that route and save yourself. He gives a total of 4 exams with NO REVIEW plus the final Very stressful. A lot of lectures he checks attendance. I highly recommend doing the extra credit if you want to maintain any passing grade. Math is difficult on its own and this wasn't helpful
Regular term: there are 4 tests and 1 exam, plus one discussion every week. The classes are good, but there's a lot to learn, which makes it hard to keep up. You also have exercises on person and 4 extra credit assignment that you have to bring to class on the day of the test.
ABSOLUTELY THE WORST TEACHER TO TAKE MATH PLSPLSPLSPLS SAVE URSELF AND UR GPA HES SO BAD I SWEAR. LECTURES?? ALL ABOUT HIM TALKING AND TALKING AND TALKING VERY POOR STRUCTURE. EXAMS? 9 QUESTIONS PARTIAL CREDIT IF THE FINAL ANSWER IS WRONG. EXTRA CREDIT? USELESS BECAUSE HES A TOUGH GRADER WITH IT AND EVERYTHING ELSE. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
If you like math, avoid him at all costs. He makes the class unnecessarily hard even for introductory courses, and refuses to round grades (79.49 gets a C). Exams are brutal, especially applications. He got sick mid-semester, and instead of canceling class as most would, he narrated the entire lesson, writing words.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!! RUN AWAY AS FAST AS POSSIBLE!!
