To do well in Professor Isbell's class, you need to join the class discussions. Overall, the class is not too difficult. Ask a lot of question if you don't understand the assignments.
He seems to be an easy teacher, but don't be fooled. He doesn't really teach what you need to know for the class. You have to do that on your own. Nice guy, though, just can't teach this class very well.
Good teacher who teaches you exactly what you need to know. Interesting class!
For this kind of class all you really need to do is learn all the vocab. and you'll be fine. But if you go to class he gives you certain test questions. His lectures are interesting and informative, especially to somebody who doesn't know which part of business to go into. Highly reccomended.
Current Events The class is extremely easy. There are no tests, you just need to show up and talk. If you don't like group discussions then this class may not be the best choice.
this class was pretty interesting... he gives some of the test questions in class, and the assignments are not hard. he tells stories in class that are irrelevant... to do well you need to know the vocabulary. he does curve the tests.
What I like most is the interesting factoids he gives during the class. He'll start explaining current events and business statistics (news-worthy ones) and it keeps your attention. He basically explains the material in the book, but in a way so that way you'll remember it.
The class will definitely give you insight to what business field you want to get into. He teaches the class with enthusiasm and makes it interesting. The three tests (100 multiple choice each) can be quite difficult especially when there are two good answers to a question. My advice is to read the book and have a good photographic memory.
assignments are very easy, but the tests are long and are too much to remeber from studying
oh my god this guy is so annoying! he never really gives you any real information he just tells you stories about his 3 daughters and every once in a while throws in a little business talk...but the thing is he still gives you super hard tests! if you plan on reading the whole book and learning the information yourself this is the class for you!
Excellent guy, does not teach exactly what is on the test. He is definitely not a pushover, and tries to make his class just hard enough that you will actually study. Read the book. He gives good lectures.
He gives you absolutely no information that you need to do well on the tests. The assignments are easy, but most students fail or do very poorly on the tests unless you read the book from cover to cover.

yup i liked him... what!?
3 exams, 1 stock market project, 4 hws. His test are hard. I dont know what helps reading the book or reading over the notes he gives in class. No powerpoint just straight lecture. He can very really boring. I've have to all his classes and i took notesand so far i have C
he is the kind of professors that tells a lot of stories is kool, but; sonetimes it can be boring. He is a wise man. I have learned a lot. His test are too "wordy" kind of confuses you. but overall he is good professor
Mostly lectures but tells stories so ok to listen to, Assignments are easy, Stock market project fairly easy, Tests are okay as long as you read your chapters and stay on top of things. Even though I got a B still highly recommend him. =)
awesome teacher mostly teaches from the book but if you go to class you get a lot of information that is needed for the test, his tests are hard but fair if you study, try not to get behind on your reading, assignments very easy and he gives yuo an A is you do it
very straigh forward and tests were pretty easy...i definately recommend him as a professor
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Made the subject very interesting by telling his life experiences. He is a worldly man and very knowledgeable. I learned a lot in this class. Tests were pretty easy if you study the bold words in the book. He covers everything that will be on the test in lecture.
The class is easy...read the chapters, study the bold words in the book and you'll do fine on the tests. The assignments are easy and you'll get an A as long as you do them. I would definitley recommend Dr. Isbell!
This guy just loves to hear himself talk. He is full of it. Half the questions on his tests are opinions (his is always right) If you want an easy A and a prof to make fun of he's the guy.
good teacher, interesting class
This teacher was just SOOO nice. He told stories that illustrated his points well and graded fairly. He has a 100 multiple choice questions which makes it easy to have an A. If you have a choice, take him. I changed my major to business after his class.
Good teacher.
Stories are helpful. STUDY FOR THE TESTS OUT OF THE BOOK! His lectures really don't do much, besides some of the test questions he tells in class. Good luck!
Although you don't have to come to class i would. He gives about five answers to the test per class. Some of his stories are not relative to the subject matter but are awesome to hear, you really get to know him well. He is very interesting and it makes you want to come to class. He gives a stock market assignment, periodical, midterm n final.
He was a really good teacher. He makes sure you understand what is going on. He makes it seem like you need to read the book but I didn't read the book at all and still got an A. He test are almost ALL vocab. So if you make like flash cards you are set.
His tests are mostly vocab & if you read the book, I think that you'll have a better chance at getting a good grade on the test. He does assign periodical assignments & a stock market project, but they're pretty easy. He was a good teacher.
Nice guy, interesting lectures, homework only 2 or 3 times. Take notes, pay attention and you will pass tests.
he has very interesting stories baout his life that he loves to tell and repeat. overall he was a good teacher but you really have to study. the homework assignments are simple so don't worry about that too much because its the tests that really count
LOVE THIS CLASS !!! I COULD LISTEN TO THIS MAN TALK ALL DAY. I LEARNED SO MUCH IN THIS CLASS. THE TESTS AREN'T HARD AS LONG AS YOU READ THE BOOK. MOSTLY DEFINITIONS. A FEW HOMEWORK ASSIGN. AND ONE BIG STOCK PROJECT THAT WAS EASY.
A wonderful teacher. Really cares about studentts and has a sense of humor. Tells stories to help you remember the important points. Curves the grades. The best teacher I've ever had at UNLV.
His class was pretty easy, as attendence was mandatory. When he lectures, he keeps the subject interesting, and even says "this is a test question," so if you miss class and get a bad grade, it's your fault. He's always available after class, and I feel like he knows a LOT about the business world. I would recommend him.
He is a very great teacher. His tests are pretty easy and mostly vocab., but make sure you read the book too! Overall, he curves the tests and is very caring of his students. I definatly recommend him!
THIS CLASS WAS SO EASY! he says in the beginning of the year dat dis is gonna be the hardest business class u will ever take. yeah right. i got a 94, 93 on the first 2 tests. and he curves it! he made it over 95. READ THE BOOK! attend class, he tells u wat da test is on. I HAD 250 PPL IN MY CLASS. daaaaaamn. so many hot ppl up in there! easy class!
I agree with the person below. This class was pretty easy. Plus the guy is funny too. He'll tell you stories about his family and stuff so it makes class go by fast. There's really no hard work required. Go to class, take some notes, read the book and your set. He EVEN tells you what's on the test.Plus he curves.Do it all and you'll likely get an A
Good teacher overall. Tends to get off track of the subject frequently but has interesting stories to not dull the class. 3 exams and 1 essay and 2 periodical reports are due. Attend class and take notes and you will pass the class.
This is one of the best teachers I have taken. He will provide help regardless if its about the class or not. Even if you are not a business major, I recommend taking his class you will not regret it.
GREAT teacher-- cracks jokes that are actually funny half the time, class is easy, attendance is optional, tests follow the lecture AND the book (meaning his lectures are about the book not some random thing he thought up)...def. worth every penny. Every class should be like this, seriously....
READ ALL THE VOCAB. OTHERWISE YOU WILL FAIL!
Awesome professor. Lays it out very well even at 7:30am. Very understanding and has a lot of real world experience. A great professor. If he has any upper division classes, I'm taking him. A good recommendation letter writer too.
Very nice professor. He outlined core book topics quickly in class. He had interesting object lessons. 100 question tests were from the book. We had to read the book in order to know enough about the concepts & terms in order to do well on the exams. That said, he was really fair grading the tests. He threw out bad questions and curved the tests
Great professor. I changed my major because of him. Attend class and you'll learn everything for the tests. A+
No need to go to class. Do the practice test online associated with the book and test will be easy. Very Basic. Very nice guy just goes off on random things... Easy class.
Dr. Isbell is amazing! He is the nicest professor I have had. He likes to tell a lot of stories, but they are interesting. The class is fairly easy, just take note to the vocab he talks about and you will be fine. Great class! Wish I could take it again!
HIS CLASS IS VERY EASY. THERE IS A FEASIBILITY STUDY, BUT IT IS SIMPLE. THE TESTS ARE STRAIGHT FROM THE TEXT BOOK, JUST STUDY THE TERMS AND TAKE THE PRACTICE TEST ONLINE!
He is the best professor I have had. Take any class this guy teaches...I didn't yawn one time all semester. He keeps it fun and wants you to do good.
Easy class, has let students use cheat sheet for semi-difficult exams during the past two semesters (don't 100% count on it though). Fairly easy grader and curves at the end of the semester. Extremely nice guy!
I'm sorry but this class was ridiculous! There is honestly no point in going because his lectures don't cover material that is on the test. Professor Isbell talked about his family and life story most of the time. Just read the book on your own time, turn in assignments, and come in to take the tests. If you do all of that you are guaranteed an A/B
Very funny teacher. Knows how to teach business. Fun sense of humor. Just wasn't good at teaching the material for the tests. I went for him for help and he cared about passing his students who really wanted help. He curves the grades a lot. I would recommend this class, if you struggle definitly ask for help, he's there for you!
Some of the material could have been dry without his ability to amuse. He goes over in class the words that appear on the test, and explains the definitions with personal life experiences that pertain to the subject. It is up to he individual to do the material. It?s not any more difficult than any other class that requires reading.
i like the class! If you read the textbook before the test, then you will get an A for sure. Attandance isn't mandatory but you better go.
I had Dr. Isbell for Bus 101 and really enjoyed the class. He is a great professor and tries to relate the material to the class. This class, on the other hand, is useless. There were 2 tests and a group project where no one helped (like usual). He is very laid back and his lectures are interesting.
For an A, come to class and take good notes. Mostly memorization of about 100+ definitions for each exam. Grades on a curve, though, so that helps a lot. Take online practice exams b/c some of the questions show up on exams (the textbook website). He does try to keep lectures interesting. Few very easy papers (1 page, mostly your opinions).
You really need to come to class and pay attention to his lectures to do well in this class. There's a lot of key terms to memorize for the exams. He grades on a curve, and there's a few easy assignments that help your grade too. Recommend for business majors.
Keeps lectures interesting by injecting life experiences and funny, as well as interesting stories. Easy to talk to; he will help if you need it. I find it insufferable to sit through lectures given by robots, he's far from it.
BUS 101 won't be offered anymore, but whatever he teaches will be interesting. He keeps class fun with personal stories, but isn't a pushover. You have to do homework and work hard. Easy to talk with and happy to give extra explanation if asked. Would definitely recommend.
Great teacher! I would definitely recommend him! You have to study for the tests but it's all just key vocabulary words. I got a pretty easy A in his class. He's funny and tells interesting stories
Easy Class. 3 MC tests. 1 book paper. And 1 group project. He grades on a curve based on the student with the highest grade. Easy grader for the paper and group project.
Great teacher, tells lots of fun stories. Easy to get A if come to class and tests most cover terminology.
this is the third time i have had isbell and he is getting better! we went over real-life material in his class and learned about resources you can actually use here in vegas. tests straight from book, not too hard. just review the book.
I misrated. This professor is quite good.
Great Professor. Everyone should take his class
Nice guy, easy class.
GREAT PROFESSOR! He's funny and tells interesting stories. The material for this class was boring but he tried to make it interesting. 4 exams that are tricky but he throws several questions out if alot of people get them wrong. You must take him!
He is the best, most caring and adorable professor ever. His assignments are ez. He gives group test, individual test, you have to keep a journal, group presentation, and a paper on what you think of your group. He keeps the class light and funny. Although you have to keep up with your reading. He is great and you do learn a lot in his class.
Awesome Instructor! He never keeps you the entire time which I find to be very nice. He is very empathetic to all students and very nice all around. I am happy that I will be ending my undergrad with a class that he's teaching.
I always enjoy classes with Dr. Isbell. He always makes sure the material is covered in its entirety, but a lot of the understanding is up to you to read the book. The tests will be thorough. Would recommend him if you need this class.
This teacher is amazing. He is really there to help you and to get you to understand the material. Love his stories. Read the book and listen and you will come out on top. UNLV does not have many good teachers left like him, so if you need this class take him. Who knows if he will be around in another year (due to cut backs). GREAT GUY.
This Professor is wonderful. He treats all students with respect. He is truly there to help you out. He wants all the students to succeed and will give you the tool to do so. Can relate his stories to the class. I do not care what class he is teaching, you can only benefit from him.
Pretty easy class, but a lot of material. Make sure to read the book and remember the definitions. Other than that, he is pretty easy teacher. Just study a lot for the tests on law!
Great guy, great personality... You dont really have to go to class though, lol. STUDY YOUR BOOK OMG I CANNOT STRESS THAT ENOUGH.
Like other reviews have stated, Dr Isbell is a very good instructor. He makes his class interesting and involves the students. He earns respect from his students by treating them fairly. He is one of the best at UNLV.
The first half of the class he gives you printouts. I did not read the book but paid close attention to the handouts. The second half is ethics, he gives no handouts, so you have to go to class and read the book. He did not cover enough about "green movement" but it was a big portion of the exam so read the entire chapter.
Good Teacher! His tests were a little difficult, but if you retain the material well enough they are easy. He is very considerate and understanding. I had to do a group project but it was very simple.
One of the kindest, nicest professors I've ever taken and have taken him twice now. Just don't get him started on politics... Very flexible with his students. Group project is a lot of work, so get with a good group and do your part.I learned a lot from this class both workingw with the group and from the textbook.
I feel like this class is a waste of time. He spends class time discussing things that wont be on the tests. The tests are basically a gauge of how well u can remember definitions.Useless class.
He is a nice man. He doesn't put a lot in to teaching this class. If you study the book you'll pass this test. After the first couple of weeks it wasn't worth my time to attend his classes, because what he talks about isn't on the tests. I'd purchase the online version of the book and the program that goes with it instead of the paper book.
Very easy class, basically a carbon copy of bus 101. If you've taken bus 101, this class will be deja vu.
What an outstanding professor. He explains the material very well. excellent use of videos and examples. In addition he provides and explains things that you can use in everyday life.
What an outstanding professor. He explains the material very well. excellent use of videos and examples. In addition he provides and explains things that you can use in everyday life. I took him twice this semester and he was great both times
One of the most genuine teachers I have ever had at UNLV. He makes the material so interesting and gets the class very involved. Group presentation, 10 individual quizzes, 10 group quizzes, semester journal, and final team paper.
Read the book and you'll be fine. Presentation and paper aren't hard if you get a good group. Partner with people that will do work and not slackers. More of a self study class. Not hard.
One of the best professors I have taken at UNLV. Read the chapters and follow the lectures and you will be fine for the tests. Requires a business plan to be completed, but you work on it all semester and he grades fairly. Extra credit for guest speaker days. Great guy, and great class.
Great professor! You have 10 chapter quizzes that you take individually and in your group. Read the book and you will be fine. You also present a chapter to the class. Also, you keep a journal of the whole class, I recommend updating once a week. Make sure to include all stuff talked about in class, that's how he knows you were in class.
This is my 4th time taking Isbell and he is one of the best at UNLV. For this seminar class it was a teach yourself course in spots but he brought in excellent guest speakers and added interesting lectures on top of that. Isbell made the class fun and enjoyable. If you can take a class with this man please do. He is outstanding
I really do enjoy Isbell's class. It's a shame because he's filled with so many life experiencesanecdotes. I feel that the value is somewhat diminished because it's a waste of who he is as a professor and what he could bring to the class if he didn't teach slide-by-slide by the publisherbook.
Great professor, in fact probably my favorite professor at this university. Great person who has done a lot throughout his life. He is very helpful and is always willing to do something to help out his students if you ask. The classes always have good attendance. Great teacher, better person.
Professor Isbell is a really nice guy, but his lectures have little to do with what is on the test. He uses the books manufactured test while he tells stories of concepts that may or may not be on the actual test. He does give extra credit and curve. Read the book and show up to the class if you want to hear some cool stories!
Everybody seems to love him, but he's not my favorite style of teaching. It was hard to sit through his classes, because he only talks about himself and his family. . Super boring. Doesn't talk about whats on the exams, but it's still extremely hard to not pass.
Dr. Isbell is one of the best at UNLV. He tries to give you more than just what is found in the text book. Go to class, study, and you'll do well. Get to know him personally. He writes recommendations when needed!
Very confusing grading criteria for his class. None of his assignments had clearly defined expectations which made it difficult to judge what exactly was expected of you for them. In addition, his tests are very long and, while not hard per se, are somewhat difficult due to the "stupid" factor of how the questions are worded. Not recommended.
He is a very sweet old man. I only showed up to take the tests, group presentation and the final. I never went to class once and got an A. The required homework is easy (you get three tries) and the tests are 75% word for word from the homework. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Victor Isbell is a great Professor!! you do need to read the book, but his lectures are fun and interesting.
Very sweet professor, although his lectures have nothing to do with exam material. He has a lot of interesting stories to share, but attendance isn't mandatory. Read the book and do the Connect homework to get an A. There's one group project, which is really easy but take the class with a friend if you don't want to be with strangers.
Take any class with Dr. Isbell if you can. Great guy! Made my capstone class a lot more enjoyable. First half of the class was spent on lectures. Read the book, pass the exam. Second half of the class was spent watching group presentations. The group project takes quite a bit of work, but it isn't hard if you have good group members.
Isbell is a great professor. Not only does he teach the material you need to know, but he also teaches valuable life lessons. I took him during the summer. The first three weeks consisted of reading the entire book and taking the mid term and final. The last two weeks were group presentations on different case studies. It is a lot but bearable.
Isabella is my favorite teacher at UNLV. I took his MGT 301 & BUS 496 classes. You need the read the material & study for the tests but he reviews what you will be tested on. He is personable and has an understanding for students working during the day and attending school at night - a quality I've found lacking in a few UNLV teachers.
Spends beginning of class putting the content to a worldly perspective. Although none of this material will be tested it is very interesting. He gives key words that the tests will be on. Read every chapter, do learnsmart, and study your notes for an easy A. I attended half of his classes because 8:30 am was hard to do towards the end. Got an A.
Easy class, dont bother reading the book. Memorize the terms from the highlighted area in connect book and make sure to write down the terms he says will be on the test from the lecture. There's a group project which is also easy just make sure to write a good paper 4 pages should be your minimum. He doesnt give extra credit.
Really fun professor. He started off with jokes before class, and lectures weren't particularly boring. I never opened the physical textbook, but getting the Connect code was essential. If you don't have it, you won't pass. Almost all of his questions come from Connect HW, exercises, and LearnSmarts.
Professor Isbell is one of the best management professors at UNLV. He really wants you to succeed and is always willing to answer questions. He has started several of his own businesses which makes him very knowledgeable on the subject. 3 tests and online quizzes is nothing to fret about. Take him for any class because he is great!
Nice guy but just another management class. Tests are strictly text based. You must read the chapters to do well. Group project is the usual but he grades more lenient on it. The quizzes are hard but doable. He gives random extra credit for attendance and misc. things. He gives a heads up on certain test questions in his lectures.
Take this class with this professor. Quizzes are done online through Connect. There are four tests and the questions come directly from Connect. The only bad part of this class is the group project. Attendance is not taken, but he sometimes gives out extra credit points for attendance when there aren't many people in class that day.
Pretty simple class in terms of what is expected of you. There are four exams weighted 20% each, online homework through Connect worth 11% and a group project (super easy) worth 9%. His lectures are not too bad, he gives good examples for the material. If you attend his lectures, he rewards you with the questions on the test.
Sweet old guy. In his lectures, he gives you all the info you need to know on the test, super easy class to pass and you don't even need to do that much work at all. You also don't need the textbook at all. Would definitely recommend.
My mans just rambles on about his family and other random political issues. His lectures are worthless, but the class is easy.
Takes attendance as a participation grade. Lectures are useless just read the book and do the learn smarts, go over them before a test and you will do fine. Lectures tend to get away from him and turn political, he is very right leaning do not like his lectures most are unrelated to material and from a very bias point of view. Group proj & present
After the Oct 1st shooting, I stopped going to class because he stated "we needed more guns". That was really distasteful... Who doesn't know how to read the room? Don't go to class. Just do connect and learnsmarts and you'll pass with an A. His lectures are useless but the tests mimic Learnsmarts. It's an easy course.
Nice guy, easy class. Everything you need to do is on Connect, Make sure you buy the access code and do the learnsmarts and homework on time. There's also quizzes online so make sure you do those as they were my best tool to study. Theres also a group project so try to make some friends before it comes around.
Ridiculously easy class. The Connect work is all you need to pass. But Isbell isn't a teacher. His lectures usually contain maybe 10 minutes of course material, the rest of the class he goes off on rants about the world that are usually incorrect, and very offensive in some cases. What a joke.
Connect is all you will ever need to pass. All of the work is on Connect except the class project. He doesn't lecture the material he just rants about his offensive opinions. What is the point of an in-person class, if the teacher just uses connect and doesn't even discuss the material? He shouldn't teach. EASY A the tests are all from connect.
Professor always starts class with a joke and is very personable. His lectures can become a bit off-topic, but they tend to be quite interesting. Everything you need to know for tests is directly from the Online HW & Quizzes. Tests are LONG! Almost 100 questions (6pg test front/back) to finish in 1hr. Make reliable friends- theres a Group Project!
You know exactly what you need to do to pass this class, do the work easy A
This class was not difficult but it is more of a self taught class! Be ready to put in work in order to understand the material, his lectures do not really follow up with the exams. He gives enough opportunities to get a good grade even if you do not do well on exams, which was great. He cares about your grade so if you need help let him know!
Some reviews here are coming from a bunch of babies. Yes, he rants off topic but he is trying to make his students think beyond this basic class. He might point out some controversial topics so if you're a sensitive flower maybe take a different prof. Also, he definitely did NOT joke about airplane crashes. Do the connect, study, get the A, simple.
Isbell isnt just going to teach out of the textbook. Yes, hes going tell stories and go off topic, but he wants to help students prepare for all facets of life. He does not provide feedback for the group project or the weekly quizzes which is frustrating. He is not a tough teacher, he expects you to know the basics. Easy A if you read and do HW.
He gave us a quiz almost every day. We would do it individually, and then with a group of six. Since he did this, you pretty much had to learn everything for yourself outside of class on Connect. He rambles on and on about pointless life stories. He doesn't seem to quite have it together. Pretty big group project on a company's HR structure.
Very easy class. Do the online homework while he lectures. His lectures normally go wildly off topic and are funny. Has a large group project that is very easy but can be time consuming if you choose something ambitious. I would recommend him but be prepared learn through Connect. The tests are easy with questions straight from Connect quizes.
For what it is, it's easy. Attendance is 10% of your grade, the project 8%, and the rest on hw, quizzes and exams. Do need book/access code and you have 2 weeks to submit hw/quizzes by the exam date. He tells you what will be on the test, lectures go off topic but he is an interesting professor. I'd take him again!
Take this professor if you can! You won't regret it. There are 4 exams, hw and quizzes for each ch, and a group project. Study the material on LS before the exams, and he tells you what is going to be on the exam. Very straightforward! Lecture can get boring some days, but attendance is graded.
Hes a nice guy but the lectures are kinda boring and dont really match what will be on the test. I thought this class was easy but I would study a lot for the test and only get 70s on the exams so that was frustrating. Kinda wish I would have picked a different professor.
He is great professor but his ;lectures tend to be long and boring. lots of the time he would just repeat what the text book stated.
Good teacher. Uses McGraw Hill online for home work, lots of definitions. The test come directly out of the homework. IF YOU DO THE HOMEWORK YOU WILL PASS THE TESTS. Good lectures with stories that tie subject matter from the book to reality. There is one group project, start early and communicate with others, makes it an easy project.
Probably the best professor at UNLV, He cares about students and truly wants their success. He makes you want to come to class. You need the textbook for a group presentation and weekly tests, but there are only 10 chapters and 16 weeks of class so you get some classes off especially around finals and midterms
Fantastic professor, everyone gets put into groups on the first day. There are 10 chapters that are picked by each group to teach/present. 10 teams, 10 chapters, 10 presentations. This also means 10 individual and 10 group quizzes. There is a journal that will be due at midterm and again final for a grade. Plus an interesting midterm and final.
I would have benefited by having better feedback on final projects.
Another worthless tenure-goblin. Flipped class, group presentations of textbook chapters. Busywork journal assignments. Difficult quizzes every week, arbitrary answers don't make sense. Average quiz scores were 50% before we changed to distance learning due to COVID-19, "miraculously" improved when quizzes were taken online. Avoid him /take online.
Overall I enjoyed this class. Professor Isbell cares about management and leadership and tries to connect those concepts to real life. One group project on the assigned chapter, individual and group quiz on every chapter, weekly journal entries, in-class assignments, and two short group papers.
This class is an easy A but extremely tedious. There are many assignments to complete throughout the course including assignments at the beginning and end of every chapter that you must document in a journal to be turned in at the end of the semester. Don't leave it until the last minute! There's also a quiz for every chapter.
If you are here for easy credit take his class. He is very dedicated to keep the class entertained when it comes to lecture. The hack to beating the mandatory attendance is beating his student aid before he takes attendance as the semester progresses he gets there at a later time. Its MGT 301 its common sense.
Very nice professor, he uses like mind tap busy work. He reviewed chapters in class with ppt. Quizzes each week through mindmap. The average test score in class(pre-pandemic) was a C, once class transitioned to remote learning grades increased per professor. Be very careful on GroupMe for any classes, UNLV monitors this! Big project at the end.
High A standards, no extra credit, and unclear grading criteria. Many say he's a good prof, but I heard that from those who took him pre-pandemic (in-person). He's nice and pretty understanding but he doesnt connect MyLab to Canvas so we may forget some tasks bcs it doesnt show & we wont know what our grade is exactly until the end of the sem.
Fantastic class! Everyone should have to take Dr. Isbell for his insight and wisdom. Loved the experience.
While this course wasn't difficult, there were difficult aspects to it. He is big on gratitude and makes you keep a weekly journal for the duration of the course. He has chapter tests, but his midterm and final are difficult. 85 questions in 75 minutes. No feedback on the journal since you don't turn it in till the end.
Nice prof and mostly straightforward assignments, but this is not a class to slack on. It contained so much busywork that he expects you to actually try on. I had an A for most of the semester, but when it came to the journal project, it brought me down to a B-. He literally secluded himself in a cabin and read every single journal front to back.
Maybe its because it was during "COVID", but considering that this was a Leadership course, professor taught us none of that. Don't wait til last minute to do your journal. Lots of busy work. Pre-recorded webinars from the PREVIOUS semester. No interaction at all. Very disappointing to say the least!
The grade is the following: Quizzes, Two Exams, and a Journal. The Journal is worth 40% of the grade. The two exams are 20% each and the 10 quizzes add up to 20%. Victor likes to socialize, and this class has informational assessments regarding your personality traits. This is a philosophical course.
Haven't finished the course but here's what you need to know. This class deals more with ideas and concepts rather than hard facts. Isbell is a nice guy and the class isn't hard or requires a lot of time, but the assignments that you do will require effort. The journal will count the most toward your grade, just ask him for an example. Fun class.
I hated this class when I started, but I grew an appreciation for it. The class is more conceptual and tries to get you to have a more positive perspective on life rather than just learning facts. He's nice, but not the most tech savvy. The journal is easy, but requires work. Tests are online and not bad.
Loved this class, it's like a self help class, you'll learn valuable lessons and tips for a better life. Super easy group presentation and do the journal every week, seems like a lot at first, but it'll benefit you in the end. Dr. Isbell was one of my faves this semester, he is easy going and has a good heart.
Professor Isbell is one of the most genuine and kind professors I've have at UNLV. Take this class if you are into self-improvement and developing self awareness. There is a journal that you need to put effort into. If you take this journal seriously, then you may discover a thing or two about yourself and even become a more positive person.
Great professor, 10/10 recommend. If you pay attention in his class you can really learn something about yourself. The journal really helped me to write out how i was feeling each week. Sadly he won't be teaching this class next semester but when his class is available, be sure to grab a seat before they're taken. Thank you Dr. Isbell.
Don't think I would take him again.
easy class, with open-book tests. However, there was an unlisted assignment worth a significant portion of the final grade, The assignment was a personal Journal about the class and things you were grateful for. Mentioning my gratitude towards my dog caused my grade to drop from an A to a D as the professor found it excessively bizarre
Was not the best professor, but the class was easy. Take MGT 367 online as coming to his lecture twice a week was useless. During lectures he spoke about his personal experiences of life, and nothing HR related. All the assignments were based off the book(quizlet). There will be 1 group project, and attendance was only graded on presentation days.
The mandatory and 'important' videos made me want to drop out of the entire major.
A very set on hi ways man, I would not recommend him if you were born in this century.
Don't take him
an inspiration if you want to work all your life in a cubicle.
Took him for MGT 371. Only grades are chapter quizzes, a semester long journal, and two exams. All of his exams and quizzes are open note which helps alot. The journal was a little bit difficult and time consuming but if you put in the work he will give you a good grade on it. My journal was over 50 pages double spaced, bit too much time consuming.
I had a B+ up to the last day of the class - and ended up finishing with an F Worst teacher ive ever dealt with - especially coming from a MANAGEMENT class(which from my experience have been nothing but a cake walk)
Pretty easy course, however, this is one of those professors you really want to avoid. 1) Barely uses Canvas, so sometimes, you don't even realize when assignments are due. 2) 8-10 page research paper and it's at the most awkward time instead of at the end of semester, so that sneaks up on you as well. All chapter homework is due once a month.
His age shows in his teachings. Easy-going class, but a waste of your hard-earned money. Find a professor who cares about what they're teaching and doesn't just use their students for their own personal entertainment.
Tenured prof who throws stones in a glass house and wont even bother to hide his hand. Just wanted us to argue w each other for his own amusement. He'll ask questions abt inflammatory topics & smile when people argue. Won't input anything into the gradebook until the last second so you won't know if you're going to pass or not until it's too late.
Honestly can not say anything nice about him. His communication is so snarky and unprofessional. There's an unpleasantness in how he communicates, I don't think he likes his job. He complains about grading and don't even THINK about asking him a question, he's going to belittle you for it. The class was 90% done through a paid mylab, ALL BUSY WORK
Typical low-effort tenure professor. Extremely lazy and teaches everything from Mylab. I dreaded talking with him. Most of your grade comes from a research project he doesn't give guidelines on, so have fun (sarcasm)! Avoid at all costs
He's really slow with replying to emails and wouldn't publish any grades until the last day of the semester so you wouldn't know what you will receive in class. Don't take him and I did not learn anything because he did not teach anything. He's pretty old so he often doesn't remember you and your questions. Super ignorance
Another mid USELESS class. Old tenured lazy professor who's stuck in the past. Online lectures is just him yapping about who knows what. Uses PAID MyLab for all assignments. Don't bother watching the lectures. Just look up the answers and you'll be ok. One 10 page research essay. This class should be replaced with another helpful course honestly.
I'm confused from the negative reviews, Dr. Isbell is a very kind and caring human. His classes are done through MyLab, which some may hate, but for me it made my life easier as it is not as demanding as some other classes and it was a stress free class. One group project and the rest is online. Get a good group and complete the assignments.
Dr. Isbell is one of the best professors I have had at UNLV. A big part of your grade in this class comes from the journal assignment. Don't wait until the end of the semester to do this assignment! Work on it throughout the semester for a good grade. He is not good with technology so if you have questions make sure you ask him in person.
I thought Dr. Isbell was a great professor, he teaches valuable life lessons and how to be a better person! The journal is a lot of work and you spend a lot of time with self-reflection but if you put in the effort and follow what is asked of you, you will do fine in the class. The journal pushed my grade from a C to an A.
BUSY WORK ON BUSY WORK. This guy is so kind and accommodating, but wow his course was so much work that got so boring. Like I know we are all so done with watching motivational TED Talks and responding to them for a class. This is a requirement for business majors, so it was good to take it with him and just deal with the boring busy work.
Dr. Isbell is a great guy with lots of experience both in the business world and academia. As lots of students have described his class requires a semester long journal. This can be tedious but very beneficial to you as a person. Take this serious and you will see drastic change in your life. This honestly was one of the best classes in college.
Dr. Isbell's class is quite involved, but if you put in the effort, you'll get a lot out of it. The journal assignment is tedious but very beneficial. Use unstuckstudy alongside the textbook to ace this class.
The class was alright. You kind of have to learn everything yourself. 5 chapters worth of work is due once a month (quiz, warm up, video assignment) + an exam. Start the HR Individual Project early because it isn't listed as a Canvas Assignment. lowk dont recommend
I would take this class again a pretty simple class, not needing to stress super hard over it.
Seems like a sweet, dedicated teacher at first, his political bias became clear, making 80% of the class uncomfortable. Many students stopped attending, yet he continued discussing politics in a biased way, creating a threatening environment. I've also heard him ask students about their country of origin based solely on their skin color.
Great person but class was useless. His lectures didn't make sense & he would say that we needed to read the book ourselves since he doesn't teach it. Journal took DAYS to complete on top of 3+ assignments per chptr that weren't for a grade, but had to be done. Exams were 80+ questions and made no sense/had mistakes in them
He assigns a journal at the beginning of the semester that's worth a big part of your grade. If you do well on that assignment you'll get a good grade. Attendance isn't mandatory but he shows videos that you need to watch for the journal and the exams. I finished with an 89% but he rounded it up to an A without me asking! Very sweet professor.
Class was a waste of time, didn't cover any of the material, just random talks and motivational videos. Had to teach myself everything, plus do a bunch of ungraded but required homework. The 30+ page journal was way too much. Sweet prof. but crazy to think we have all the time in the world for that much work.
The easiest, and one of the kindest, professors at UNLV. I would take any class he offers, the homework is easy, and the tests and grading is easy. Also, just a really down to earth guy, he's chill
Literally a fanastic teacher, He was so caring and inspirational. He made class enjoyable as well. Homework is not hard, just tedious. A chapter took me about an hour and a half to do. 2 exams, midterm and final. i learned so many things in this class that I will def take throughout the rest of my life.
Assumes the worst of students. Her instructions are a huge headache for both assignments and the syllabus. Do not even bother trying to understand the Canvas, because as she states in her emails, she doesn't use it, and things are not correct or accurate on Canvas. Also, u will have a 30-50 page journal with horrible instructions and requirements.
MGT 371 was a total waste. Isbell's syllabus was a mess, way too bloated and disorganized to actually teach anything useful. The "lectures" were just drawn-out, lectures packed with clichés and zero substance. For grading, we got two exams (memorize video quotes and textbook fluff, then guess vague scenarios). one big diary that is busywork.
Dr. Isbell is the most fantastic, compassionate, and inspirational instructor I have ever had the honor of learning from. He is extremely wise and his lectures are not only filled with useful test material, but also life lessons. The final grade (for summer) is based off of a journal (40%), a midterm (30%), and a final (30%). Put in the work!
I took this course over the summer and your grade is based off of three things; one midterm, one final, and a journal. The exams are done through Pearsons learning and I found them quiet difficult because they each cover five chapters which can have 30 to 40 pages. The journal has about 9 sections per chapter you must complete--very time consuming.
You think you signed up for management class, but nope! you instead get debate club, 2 15min group presentation (+ essays), 1 individual 5min presentation (+ essay), participation is 20% of your grade so you HAVE TO speak almost every time a group finishes to ask question so he can write you down for credit. It's a public speaking class pretty much
Professor was great! Taken him 2 other times in the past. MGT 494 didn't make sense. Titled “Seminars in Management” but we didn't really learn anything management related. Majority of the class structure was debates on topics that didn't relate to management. Didn't feel like it was worth my time and money. Class should be restructured.
xtremely easy, it's all on Pearson. You can work ahead and complete the semester realistically in a couple weeks tops. Nice professor and one research project which isn't to brutal. Would take again for sure, easy credits
Easy class, you'll pass no doubt. However, description says "Seminar in Management" but was more like a debate class. Structure of the class should definitely be altered but overall an easy A. And Isbell is really sweet and lenient. Cares about his students and is really nice.
I really liked taking Professor Isbell's class. All of the work was done through Pearsons and you're able to work ahead if you'd like. 3 exams throughout the semester, and 1 final individual research paper. He gives you TONS of time for the paper to don't wait last minute, its ~10 pages. He also responds to emails in a timely manner so reach out!
Extremely disorganized and unprofessional course. No real lectures as classes were mostly random debates unrelated to management in any way. Canvas was not used, so grades were unknown until after the course ended. Prof. used class time to push political views. Easy A if you showed up, but many avoided class due to discomfort. Not worth time/money.
its alright, Professor needs to work on better integration of canvas, will reduce score due to wrong file type, or emailing it to the wrong aid
