This guy is totally ridiculous. Very weird. At times he goes so fast that no one even bothers writing. Avoid his class
real nice guy. hard teacher though. he will try to explain it better, but you HAVE to ask questions.
He's pretty tough, but it is possible to get an A. Take your book to class everyday, underline everything he says, and read it, reread it, and reread it again and you'll be fine. And then when 99% of the class doesnt do this and the test average is a 50, he gives you mad chances for extra credit so dont fear. Or maybe you should...
I had him for lab only, but he was rough. But he would bend over backward to give extra credit and expects a lot. You'll have to work obscenely hard for an A in the class but its possible. If you want a challenging professor, definitely take him. If your a slacker, stay away.
Very difficult class. He really challenges his students. Does not give slides to print out. Very very fast paced. Tests are extremely hard. Tough teacher but he seems like a nice guy. This class will require 110% of you.
don't understand others people comments...great prof! makes you work for your grade
Really nice guy!! We love Dr. Miriel!!!!!! He's really helpful and easy to get along with. :-)
Great Proff
tests are hard!!!!!!!!!
hard but fair. take your book to class and highlight everything he says. as long as you don't wait until the last night to study you will be fine. everyone complains about him and yes his tests are hard but just study and its not that bad. he is really helpful one on one and gives mad extra credit when everyone does bad.
horrible prof. dont ask questions, hell be condescending and make you feel like your worthless. he yells and gets in your face. ive never had a teacher who was less helpful or who refused to help his students succeed. i pay to take a bio class, not to have him yell when i ask a question. absolutely one of the WORST profs. at SU, and i love SU.
goes very fast. makes people cry a lot. tests are extremely hard. horrible guy. avoid class!
His tests are really hard but he is a good professor. If you study in advance the work is doable. Lab is more difficult with him then other profs
bad prof, class is hard and he does not help.

There is no doubt that Dr. Miriel is probably one of the hardest teachers you will ever take, but he is very fair..... study the book, read the book, sleep with the book, make love too the book because you will need too know everything in it....... You may hate him all semester, but at the end you will love him and know he was worth taking.
You are crazy if you do not take Miriel's class. I got the highest grade I've ever gotten because he gives you so many chances for extra credit points. His tests are hard, but fair and you better know the book. He is very friendly, helpful, and I really enjoyed his lectures! Highly recommend!
Best professor I have ever had! The only people who dont like him are the ones that dont know how to put forth the effort required for this class. He expects a lot out of you but he is always available if you need help. I learned so much from this class and would definitely recommend him if you want to learn anatomy!
Dr Miriel is without a doubt the HARDEST professor i have ever had. when he tells you to study 2-3 hours a night, he is NOT kidding. you really do need to devote your life to this class in order to do well. and youre pretty much on your own. try not to get him if you can, although he is usually the only teacher who teaches it.
Hard but fair
Not a nice man and not a nice teacher! Also do not believe a word he says about helping you out because they are all lies. He pretends to be nice then never follows through. His all or nothing bonus quizes are bogus too. A&P is already hard enough without him trying to teach at like a 400 course level. STAY AWAY!!
Wow, he's not that bad, I actually liked him. Obviously he's not going to give away grades. You have to study hard, that's college.
very difficult, in the beginning comes off as an ass but he loves the topic and you learn alot of interesting facts that you wont forget. If you have him for lab answer questions alot and make sure he knows your name you can get extra bonus points by answering questions in class. KNOW the steps for all the systems always questions on the steps.
I will admit this class was extremely hard if you didn't study beforehand and come with your own notes tou would be lost the book is like your BIBLE and will be attached to your hip at all times! But other than that I LOVE MIRIEL he was my advisor for BIO and I can talk to him about anything nice and good listener. GO to his office hours!
I admit I hated Mirel for 216. His lecture was basically reading from the provided powerpoint slides from the book. So basically in 216 you need to learn the book! I know he has some bad reviews but it really depends on the type of student you are. 334 is much better. He is clearer and teaches completely different. Tough teacher, but you learn.
he is a nice guy and up to talk to you about anything but extrememly hard! eat, breathe and sleep with the book in all seriousness. studying every night for long periods of time is a must, but there are always easy bonous points from anatomy and physiology revealed so study that daily too! really hard teacher! have fun studying your life away.
There are so many horror stories about Miriel. Don't listen to them!! Yes, you have to study and you will sleep with the book, but you will feel so grateful for him when the semester ends. He wants to help you, so don't be afraid! I only wish that I would have taken advantage of more of the bonus points he gives.
Really great teacher; I have never learned so much in a class before this one. Study hard! It's worth it!
Miriel is tough, if you want an A be prepared to make this class your top priority. He is very helpful and personable outside of class and does give generous extra credit so overall not a bad prof. He will definitely make you earn your grade but come on it's college!
yes miriel is hard, but he makes you learn and tells you exactly what he wants you to know. live sleep and eat the class if you want an A, but in the end it'll feel so rewarding. amazing at office hours, USE THEM!
He is a horrible teacher would not reccomend taking him! He puts people down in his lab all the time. He will tell you that what your majoring in is not realistic. He expects you to teach yourself.
AVOID HIM!! He is not a good teacher, if you spell something wrong or even get one question wrong you get an zero on the pop quizzes he gives for extra credit. He won't tell you what to focus on for the exams he tells you to know everything which is impossible. I received an A in Patho which is the basis for A&P 2 so this tells you he is horrible!
Miriel is by far one of the most challenging professors at Salisbury University. If you don't enjoy reading a textbook in your spare time I don't recommend taking him. A&P will seriously be what you live and breathe over your semester if you hope to do well. Fun professor outside of class, he will try to scare you away. Doable, but have to work har
Im in Miriel's Winter class and I was expecting the hardest class of my life after readingt hese comments. It isn't that hard. He gives extra credit! Just read the chapters and use AP revealed videos. Dr. Miriel is VERY smart and knows alot about Anatomy & Physiology so if you go to him during office hours he is very helpful.
Miriel is a hard teacher. you have to read and study, and if you cant do that then i am embarrassed to go to the same school that you do. i received an A and it didnt eat up my whole life.
Everyone who whines about this class should probably change their major. Is it hard? Yes. Do you have to study a lot? Yes. Is it impossible? No. I mean come on, the man gives bonus points! And not just a few, I had 100+ bonus points by the end of the semester. That's the equivalent of a test grade! And yes, I had a life outside of A&P.
The best advice one can recieve prior to taking BIO 216 at Salisbury University is make sure that you avoid taking Victor Miriel at all costs. This is easily the most difficult and time consuming class I have ever taken. There is no point in going to class, the information is taken from the Saladin text book verbatim.
Miriel is a tough teacher and really expects a lot from students. If you want an A, go to another teacher, if you want to learn a lot Miriel is your man. He's a cool guy, and really loves the subject, he just really expects perfection. I think he prides himself on weeding out nursing majors.
He is literally the best professor I have ever had!I was having a lot of trouble with my career choices and he talked me through it and helped me figure out what it is I want to do. He is extremely clear, wants everyone to succeed and is willing to do anything to help you.His class is hard though so if you dont study I wouldnt recommend it
He is a hard teacher. To keep it short and simple. If you dont study and read the text you will fail. His class consists of him teaching off his class powerpoint. But everything you need to know is in the text book. Again if you dont read it you WILL fail. If you try to get by without putting in effort you will fail. But he is a nice teacher though
Miriel is a fantastic professor. One of the few that cares about students LONG TERM development. It's a hard class and requires mastery if you want the A, but a B or C are very attainable grades.
Dr. Miriel is a tough teacher. You don't learn anything from his lectures, you must read all the textbook chapters in order to pass his tests. An A is almost impossibly unless this is the only class you are taking. I would recommend taking a different teacher for this subject.
Take him for seminar!
Study enough and you can easily get an A in this class. Not as bad as its cracked up to be. Ton of extra credit and miriel is good at explaining the bigger picture, you just have to study the details.
Really hard class, very strict. He made me cry in the first week. He doesn't give much guidance - you basically have to read and learn the entire textbook. Super difficult but you will learn a LOT.
You definitely can not fall behind in this class. Miriel wants what's best for his students but you have to be willing to work- that means in the library 24/7. I took his winter course and got a B so its definitely possible, just stick with it!
ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS IN THE WORLD... HE SHOULD BE TEACHING MEDICAL STUDENTS... LOVED THIS CLASS...
BEST PROFESSOR IVE EVER HAD. Don't take him if you expect to get an easy A, cause he won't give it to you. If you work hard in his class you will do well. Bottom line is: if you expect to do well in healthcare you will do well in his class. Any nursing major that doesn't get an A in this class should never be allowed to be a nurse.
Dr. Miriel's class is awesome! I initally was scared to take him beause everyone said it was so hard and basically impossible to get an A, but that's not true at all. If you truly enjoy learning and don't mind putting in a good ammount of study time, you will do fine in the class. He gives a lot of extra credit. I def recommend taking him!
Amazing teacher. At first I hated him but he really grew on me. He gives lots of extra credit and if you study hard and take the time to learn the info you will do just fine. Though he is tough he really wants you to learn the material and he made me a better student. I would definitely take him again for another course. Great professor
Excellent teacher!!! If you've ever wanted to complete a class and actually retain what you've learned, his is the one to take!
He is very hard! You have to read and memorize the text book word for word. He gives you no guidence for exams in his class. On pop quizzes if one question is wrong or even spelled wrong, you recieive a zero. He wants you to MASTER everything!
You need to master everything is this class to get an A he accepts nothing less than perfection. The all or nothing quizzes are the most irritating thing but you will no a lot by the end of the semester. It never seems to be enough for the exams but you master more than you think you do.
He is awesome. He is difficult so don't expect anything higher than a C if you fail to attend 2 or more classes. He loves questions and helping but he jumps to conclusions a lot when assuming what you are asking and has an ADD where he will start talking about something important in the middle of your question. Just Read and ask questions
for everyone that says this guy is awesome..what are you smoking? i know multiple people who have dropped or failed the class. makes you feel guilty for not reading the book 24/7. comes into class with a neg. attitude saying half the class will fail or drop. all or none quizzes are BS.i dropped it and took it with dr.g and got a B in the course.
Took him over winter semester. He is very tough and you will study a lot but you will be smarter and better off than most idiots at this university. Don't expect any handouts. Do the work. Take your time on his tests and read carefully. The questions will make you think but test comprehension. Don't believe the horror stories. He is amazing.
This class is extremely difficult, and even more of a challenge during winter term. But, Dr. Miriel is really helpful and makes the lecture interesting and fun. He also gave plenty of extra credit in the form of quizzes. Be ready to commit a huge amount of time to studying, and don't take 216 if you have an otherwise heavy course load.
Very difficult teacher, he teaches the class like it's medical school. He is very intimidating making it harder to talk to him about the class. Run while you can.
BEST TEACHER EVER. This class is one of few that really make you to learn and remember material, which for all health professions, is a necessity. The quizzes AREN'T bad, they are beneficial and force you to not cram important information the night before an exam. Miriel is so helpful and his expectations are clear and reasonable. 10/10
Ones of the worst teachers I've ever had. I am going to have to retake this class for the THIRD time because I've had him twice now and I still can't pass. You basically have to devote your life to his class. Awful teacher.
Avoid this class at all cost. This man is smart and his intentions are good for the most part, but he is completely unreasonable. He makes you basically devote your life to this class.
Dr. Miriel has been my research advisor for 3 years at SU, and I can tell you that many professors do not have a passion for their subject of interest that even compares to his. I learned so much from this man both in and out of the class, and this class was no exception. Yes the class is more difficult, but you have to put in the effort.
Honestly, he is the best professor that I have had. I thought I would have a tough time in this class, but honestly if you read the book and attend class you will do fine. He is a teacher that will make you actually learn the material. I would retake him hands down.
Everyone says how hard he is as a professor, but honestly he is one of the best professors I have had at Salisbury. You come out of his class knowing the material. As long as you put in the work and the effort there is no reason not to get a good grade in this class.
Different teaching method using class as a discussion rather than showing PowerPoints. Test are hard and you will need to study mechanisms and concepts rather than facts. If you go to class and study your notes you should be good!
People complain that he doesn't teach but his lectures are amazingly helpful if you pre-read the material. Only two exams (mid-term and final) 600700 points. But if you know you're stuff you're good to go. Be prepared because he DOESN'T give extra credit anymore.
SO HARD!!! Changed my major bc of him, biggest regret ever. Everyone says he is the hardest professor, i see why. He assumes you have back ground knowledge of science.. take someone else, avoid him. He is a nice person, and funny... but his class is no joke. If you're ready to devote your life to his class, go ahead and take him. .
He only gives two exams the whole semester. His quizzes are all or none quizzes, so if you get one question wrong your grade will drop.
Dr. Miriel was a wonderful professor! I took him twice. He is definitely tough, but he really wants you to learn. He knows what he is talking about and he is very clear about what he wants and expects from you in the class. GO TO HIM FOR HELP. He loves helping his students, this is why I really enjoyed him. He does care and wants you to do well!
Miriel knows the material and tries to teach beyond what is necessary. He gives some all-or-none quizzes and very long homework, but most of your grade is tied up in the midterm and the final. His test questions are excessively difficult and extremely stressing. Grading system was terrible. Would not recommend.
Dr. Miriel is a wonderful person and is very easy to talk to and always there to help students. If you go to him he will be honest with you on what you need to do to pass. The homework is very long and only worth about 5 points each assignment. All or none quizzes can make or break your grade! Very tough teacher but you will learn a lot!
Prof. Miriel was an awesome teacher, one who definitely knows what he's doing and does well to prepare you for upper-level classes. People say he's too hard but most people just don't put it enough hours. Prepare to read ahead, take good notes, and study your butt off. But if you do you'll be better prepared than if any other teacher taught you.
Very tough grader but willing to help. You may have to take a letter grade lower but you'll learn far more than you would with any other professor
You may have to take a letter grade lower but you'll learn far more than you would with any other professor
He gives 2 exams the whole semester which sucks bc they are 300 points each, gives all or nothing quizzes, and pop quizzes. He really knows his stuff but, he expects you to know it to an extent that isn't really necessary. He is funny as hell, and wants to make sure his students really understand the material more than other classes.
Dr. Miriel is unique in that he doesn't hand you your grade. He makes you learn concepts, make connections between those concepts and work for your grade. It may not be the easiest course, and he's not the easiest teacher, but I promise that you will come out of that class knowing more than you would have with any other teacher. I'd take him again.
People complain a lot, but he is an amazing professor. I started out with a D and ended with a B in the course. He goes into great depth so really read the material and be well prepared for class.
Very apprehensive in the beginning of class. I dropped this class once and came back with a vengeance. I want to do well and MUST do well! I read 8-10 hours a day, slept less than 5 hours for the first 2 months. PLEASE read the textbook it will pay off in the end. His lectures are very enjoyable, remember to bring a recorder.
Dr. Miriel's class was so interesting! He may seem scary at the beginning but he is the nicest individual. This class is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken but it was so worth it. Take it w/ easier courses cause this class will consume u. He teaches you the proper way to study which really enhances your ability to remember the material.
This was the hardest class I've ever taken, but one of my favorites. Miriel is an amazing professor. He definitely pushes you-- but the material is interesting and he genuinely wants you to do well. If you go to office hours, he'll answer questions. Read your textbook and take good notes in lecture! Studying in groups helped me so much, too.
Hardest class i have ever taken! He expects you to understand information right away and if you don't, he doesn't take the time to help. Does not explain things very well and i'm taking this class AGAIN because of him. Ugh! Do not recommend taking him if avoidable.
Miriel is super intelligent and it shows when he lectures. However, he is a tough grader and expects you to know the topics covered. The book is an absolute must to get and read. The material is very time consuming but also interesting. If you're thinking of going into the medical field I think this class is good to take.
He is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He expects you to master the material as soon as he teaches it and is unwilling to help his students. His exams are on the material in the book and he does not guide you with what you should know, so everything is fair game... especially what isn't gone over in class. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
I went into this class knowing that it was not going to be easy, but be prepared. You'll be reading the textbook and studying nonstop for this class. Don't be afraid to go to his office hours and ask questions. Study with others!!! That saved my grade. Overall, great class. Super interesting. Best teacher for future nursing students.
Hardest class I have ever taken, make sure you READ,READ, READ! If you think that googling the answers will help you pass, I'm telling you- IT WON'T. With Dr. Miriel, if you thought your version of studying is good enough, I can tell you, its not. You will learn how to actually study properly if you wish to pass this class.
Dr. Miriel is a really nice professor! Sure, he makes you work for your grade, but it's understandable as the course is so important for people going into healthcare. Be prepared to know both the anatomy and the physiology of the structures listed on the lab packet, to read the textbook, and to study the APR slides for his exams.
Dr. Miriels class was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. He knows a lot about the content but he expects his students to know just as much. His quizzes and exams are lecture based so you cant miss a class. He does offer a lot of extra credit and extra points to make up for his hard quizzes and exams but youll have to work really hard.
Dr. Miriel is honest. The class is hard, you must learn his material & re-learn A&P at a more complex level When he says a test is on chapters 1, and 2, and a little on inflammation. Treat inflammation like it was more than a chapter, its likely a central theme. Take him, you'll be challenged, learn a lot, and maybe a few things about yourself.
One of the hardest things I have ever done. I had a D/F most of the semester and ended up passing. There's really no way to prepare yourself for this course. If you think you take good notes- you don't. The course is doable, and Dr. Miriel expects a lot from his students, but no one ever said nursing was an easy field. Good luck!
Miriel is a difficult professor but is willing to help you. You must go to class and read the book. I recommend recording the lectures and listening to them again because his exams are very specific. he expects you to know the mechanisms not just memorize words. Going to his office hours is also beneficial
Dr. Miriel knows a lot about biology, the problem is, he expects everyone to know just as much as him. His exams have almost nothing to do with what is talked about in class, and they are almost impossible to prepare for. Be ready to feel lost and confused, as I did. If it weren't for the plentiful extra credit he gave, I wouldn't have passed.
Dr. Miriel speaks beyond chapters. Study the concepts inside and out. Come to office hours and make sure you are asking questions to clarify. Read your book two or three times. Great professor who uses humor and storytelling to help students better understand physiology. Youre going to work but learn a lot.
Record and go back over lectures, that will help more than anything. Super understanding professor. He will go out of his way to help you in any possible way, but you will need to work HARD for your grade. Which isnt unusual for the science department at SU. Different teaching style than most due to low PowerPoint use, but again, record.
I highly recommend Dr. M for patho. If you show effort he is always willing to help you to the best of his ability. Attendance was not mandatory, however, if you miss class it will be reflected in your grade. I highly recommend recording lectures and re-listening to them in order to take better notes because he goes fast and he rarely uses PWPT.
I don't hate him, and I tried to retake the course because I failed it the prior year. He acted very understanding about my job and told me he would help me make up what I missed one week, but he never did. I emailed him 7 times in one week with little to no response, and then when we scheduled a zoom, he didn't show up.
Worst class and teacher ever. He doesn't teach he just rambles, no powerpoints, + his camera is off when he lectures. He talks so fast + says so many things that its so hard to take notes. He doesn't provide any notes, study guides, or anything. No SI for class bc he says its not helpful and we should already know the info they would tell us.
This class is the source of my depression and I didn't do well on my first exam but Dr. Miriel is a sweetie pie and I am learning a lot so hopefully I can bounce back.
He's a nice guy but his class is very hard. He knows so much about the subject and rambles on about a lot and expects you to know as much as he does. Even if you think you understand the material well his tests are still extremely hard. He's a hard grader, you have to study a lot and don't expect an A.
I would not recommend taking this professor. His lectures are all over the place, sometimes lectures with his camera off and doesn't provide notes or power points. He tells you to reach out to him for help, but won't answer his emails. I emailed him asking him for help and some advice on how I could do better. I did this THREE times and never answe
Everyone knows him as the teacher who doesn't teach. He is lazy uses the text book pictures for his slides only assigned homework is to read the book. You need to re-listen to his lecture multiple times and remember every word he says. Get ready to teach yourself patho and hate your life. Only 3 exams majority of his class failed exam 1
Miriel really knows what he is talking about in class. However, he talks to you like you have a biology degree as well. He doesnt explain things in a way that makes sense and his exams were extremely difficult even if you study. He began to give us extra quizzes to bump up our grades, so that was helpful but didnt do much. Do not take him.
A tough grader, will not let you make up anything, expects you to know everything from the textbook word for word, puts all of that on the quizzes. Doesn't have ppt up or anything written and talks AT you the whole time. Screamed at a girl because she accidentally had her mic on, and made her leave class. Says you can email him, but never answers.
He is not going to give you study guides or slides to study with. You have to go to lecture and write down the important topics. It really helps if you participate in class. It is definitely physiology heavy. Do not expect anatomy questions in lecture. He's a good professor but you have to study outside of class.
Professor Miriel is probably one of the most caring professors I have met at Salisbury. Although his class is difficult and he will definitely make you work for your grade, he is always there to help. What you put into the class is what you will get out of it. I also highly recommend recording and rewatching his lectures.
This class is probably one of the hardest ever but Dr. Miriel is genuinely such a nice man who will try his best to help you succeed. Lots of important info but don't let yourself slack at all it will catch up to you!
Dr. Miriel was helpful and accessible outside of the lectures. This was the most difficult course I have taken by far but Dr. Miriel did his best to help students outside of the classroom through office hours and meetings. Get ready to read the textbook almost daily and come to class ready to listen and take notes.
Great professor! Definitely record his lectures as they are the core of what he tests on. He refers to the textbook a lot so definitely skim over that before his class. He expects a lot, but he is so willing to help if you show the effort. The first week of his class is a lot, but stick with it! 100% recommend it! I've retained a lot of the info.
Dr Miriel is easily one of my favorite professors at SU. While yes the course is hard, he makes it very interesting and shows clear interest in the subject. If you read before class, record lectures, take many notes, you will succeed. He also does not provide powerpoints, so be ready to write!
This class was extremely awful. There was zero feedback, no lecture outline, and random quizzes. This class was extremely unorganized and multiple students dropped before the class was even a week in.
Professor Miriel makes you calculate your grade. He basically talks at you and isn't that great at teaching. He goes off topic every lecture and questions you about information not taught in class. He calls students out, he is forward but rude when you ask questions. Gives a quiz almost every class so don't miss a class.
Professor Miriel was not a good teacher, he talked down to you and made you do all the work to figure out your grade. There was no outline to this course and he would go on random tangents about things that did not relate to the topic. A different topic was explained every day and he would throw out random quizzes.
Dr. Miriel is the kind of professor that you need to make sure you get 1-on-1 time with him in office hours to succeed. He is a very harsh grader and barely gives tests or quizzes. Sometimes he won't tell you about a quiz and just tell you to take out a sheet of paper at the beginning of class and start asking you questions. Avoid taking his class.
Patho was so hard with him. You can never get a feel for what is going to be on the test because it's very sporadic and disorganized. He talks too fast and moves too quickly on important material. His exams make you want to dig an early grave. He seems like a nice person one on one but he's a horrible professor. Take him for lab, that's way better
He was the worst teacher I have ever had. He is the harshest grader and so rude if you try and talk to him. He favors his patho class. He tries to make you second guess yourself or make you feel dumb. I would never take one of his classes ever again because of the terrible experience I had with him. If I could've rated him a zero I would have.
The worst class I've ever taken. I tried so hard, didn't withdraw or drop and ended up failing anyways. Impossible to tell what's going to be on the exam. Flies through lectures fast and is very rude. Do not take him if you care about your mental health, grades, or your future. Horrible. Horrible. Horrible.
Dr. Mirel seemed to be a good professor at first but as the lectures went on, I realized he cant teach. He makes the class so unnecessarily hard and is such a tough grader. Normally I do well in my classes but the amount of time I spent on this class was unreal. Would not recommend it. Bad joke teller as well.
The only grade you are given is through Exams. It is very textbook heavy, every small detail in the textbook will be looked out. His teaching is ineffective. He talks fast, only has pictures in his lecture slides, and does not assign any graded work. If you fail the exam, just assume you have failed the class as a whole.
I generally am an A or B student. If you're like me, DON'T walk into this class--specifically with Dr. Miriel--with the mindset that you will also receive an A, that isn't the case. His entire class is based solely on exams, he doesn't have a linear teaching method, and there are ZERO opportunities to get your grade up either.
horrific teacher enough said. take the other bio216 teacher if you want to learn anything and pass-coming from an A/B student
If you got a bad grade in the class, you didn't read the book. I read the book, did the practice homework and did fine on his exams. Yes they were a little tough but I got a B or higher on all of them. Gave you a good amount of random extra credit, so go to class. He said 30% of the class open the book, which he was clear you needed to read.
Professor Miriel's class is no walk in the park, but if you put in the work - reading the textbook, attending lectures, and using tools like unstuck AI for study prep - you can succeed. The exams are tough, but he makes himself available to help students outside of class.
Get ready to note take on everything he says. Not knowing what is actually going to be on the exam. Textbook barely helps for exams.
Very unapproachable/condescending. It's fine if you make the rigor of the course higher, but he makes what we need to know unclear. Not everyone is a biology major, dumb it down a little! You're graded on tests/quizzes and lab only. There is a lot of material not in the book so you won't pass just by reading. His si is great this semester.
Try not to take him if you don't have to. Only reason I'm doing remotely ok is his SI who reteaches everything from class. He puts a few slides on the board and talks for the rest of class. Get ready to take notes on EVERYTHING he says, not knowing what is ever going to be on the test. There is no clear concepts/objectives of what to know for exam.
Miriel's class is time consuming, and studying for it took up a significant portion of my time. I found the textbook really helpful for studying/reviewing content for exams, and doing well in lab helps cushion your grade. Definitely go to the SI sessions. The SI leader makes his sessions really thorough and cares about everyone's progress.
Dr. Miriels class is not as bad as some people say. 216 is just a hard course because its graded almost only on exams. Most of the stuff on the exams is from his slides which are from the textbook. His SI is helpful and explains things in a way that make the class much more manageable, and he gives out study guides that help a lot on the exams.
As difficult as this class is, Dr. Miriel is the best professor to take. Yes you have to attend lecture and at least skim the textbook. The exams are extremely difficult but he is really good with being willing to work with students. If you are struggling, speak with him in office hours. He is the reason im passing this class.
Was he much help, no, but was he entertaining, yes. He told us that he would not answer any questions that were in the textbook. He is nice to talk to and he is willing to help you in other topics. He was a funny guy and I will miss that class but I'm also so happy it is over.
He's pretty good when he helps you, but he told our class that he wasn't going to help us if the answer was in the textbook. You WILL be teaching yourself, but he gave us A LOT of grace when grading.
Dr. Miriel was my professor for A&P lab which is less dependent on the professor compared to lecture. He gives off a mad scientist vibe, but he's genuinely a good person. For the class itself he doesn't rlly teach but that's mostly due to it being a lab. I've heard mixed things about his teaching in 216, but he works well as a lab instructor.
