Not a hard course if you can stay awake...very monotone, but he tells good stories.
Funny, HOT, wonderful. One teacher I wouldn't mind being inappropriate with.
Social Psych was kind of boring but you could tell he knew what he was talking about. His stories are pretty entertaining but the lecture can get boring. The class isn't too hard though.
yay for social psyc!
watch out for victor on an off day. he'll tear your head off.
If you are a man, you will pass. Not only will you pass but, you'll do exceptionally well. For any females silly enough to take this class, expect to hear a lot of stories about his exes...they must have hurt him badly if he hates women this much!
Tests suck. His class notes will not help cause they are just examples. You have to read the book and attend class. If I had to do it over, I would have never taken this class.
He is a very good teacher. Sometimes you can find him wandering the halls with a funny hat on. he knows a lot about the topic.
Very clear in lecture. Easy tests. Go to every class. Makes lecture fun. Take him!
He really knows his material. His tests are bad as long as you go to class and take notes. I enjoyed his course a lot.
He is very informative. Some of the tests are ambiguously answered, and one can argue their point, they won't be right most of teh time, but he will take the time to help understand why you are wrong.Cummulative 2nd and 3rd tests stink, but could be worse
Not a bad class, but you just have to put in the effort of actually READING!! So if you hate to read in your classes, this class is not for you!
Easy class. Dr. Ottati can be somewhat funny but sometimes his lectures will drag on. Three tests, two of which are multiple choice.
His lecture is a little boring but if you go all you have to do is review your notes. reading isn't that important... I wouldnt even buy the book just go to class and know the notes from front to back and you will be ok . grade is base on 3 exams.
didn't really like social psych in general..it had some cognitive stuff..paper is a killer...he's ok but intimidating most of the time!!!!!!!
one word sums this fellows up: ARROGANT!!!!!!!!
Clear, Straight from the notes, FUNNY guy, relates stuff to a students perspective
Vic is awesome, one of the best teachers in his department. very funny and interesting class, easy to stay awake through. moderately easy tests, easy b+, have to read the book for an A though. if youre a major you should take him, he brings so much knowledge and charisma
Always go to lecture and take good notes, 3 tests with the final and one paper which is not that bad at all. Lectures are interesting if you like the topic, pretty much do the work and you should be fine I got a B+
For someone teaching Social psych (the way people interact and learn from situations) he must have never learned to be interesting. I took this class at 8:30 in morning and I could rarely bring myself to go. I figured it's far better to sleep in my own bed than in a lecture hall with 100 others.
Great prof, easy to understand. not arrogant or chauvanistic. tries to make jokes (lame). very intelligent and good at lecturing in a clear and thoughtful way. can ramble sometimes, and can be a little boring. overall great prof though. you will learn something
He is pretty straight foward and can be really interesting at times. Go to class, take notes and review them before the tests and you'll be fine. An easy B with no work besides going to class and paying attention.
Dr. Ottati is one of a kind. He is brilliant and his humor is fantastic. There are three exams and there are all graded fairly and the questions are right down the center. Use the book terms and ALL of the lectures in class to do the best on the exams. This is by far, the most interesting class I have ever been in my life. Take Ottati's class!
this was a very interesting class and it wasn't even that hard. just take real good notes and study them before the exams. the questions on the exams are not that hard and are from the lectures.
this guy sucks! this is not a grad. level class, its supposed to be doable, not impossible. DO NOT TAKE HIM! i didn't bother reading his bad ratings and now im up the creek. only 3 exams, no EC nor attendance pts. he is not flexible and only cares about his stupid kid--its all he talks about and he thinks he's really cool.
Dr. Ottati is very knowledegable and easy to approach if you have questions. His lectures can be boring at times because he does tend to ramble. However, as long you show up to class and take notes, you will do fine on the tests. 2 Multiple Choice Exams and 1 Short Answer Exam.
Interesting topic... Lectures every class, which can get boring after an hour... Tries to keep it entertaining/interesting with jokes. Kind of works. Pretty good guy. Knows his stuff. Three tests, that's it. Two multiple choice w/ curve, one short answer w/o curve. No E.C. Take him if you have nothing better to do.
Great professor and very interesting class...you dont even need to buy the book if you take really good notes in class. Tests are directly from his lectures. Although he likes to talk the entire class, its pretty interesting material...
This guy is great! He's very funny, extremely organized mentally and very charmning. Wish every professor could be like this.
Makes the best attempt to explain subjects clearly, but is pretty borinng, the monotonous tone of his voice doesn't help either.
this was by far my worst experience in any psych class ever...i APed out of psych 101 and took this class...he was the most borin man ever...and his tests and quizzes werent not based on material but rather stupid examples that he never discussed...steer away from this class plz!
love, love, LOVED HIM! he was incredibly organized. his power points made it easy to take good notes- i would love to take a class from him again!! take him!! he made me change my major to psychology
love love LOVED this class! if you like structured, straight forward lectures you'll love this guy. i would take any class from him again in a heart beat. friendly and interesting guy.
Would not recommend him. He seems to be very passionate about this subject which is probably why he goes on,on about whatever he is explaining, which gets pretty boring most of the time. Not motivating.
Ottati knows what he's talking about & clearly loves what he's doing. All his lectures are interesting, and worth going to. There are two tests and a paper; The tests are easy to ace as long as you go to class and pay attention, Basically don't be lazy and you'll get an A. Take this class w/him, esp if you're a psych major!
Ottati is a good prof. He makes things simple so that everyone can relate to the material. I would take him again if I could.
Social psychology can be pretty interesting and Ottati does a good job at making it so. I have pretty bad untreated ADD so I rarely paid attention in class but I managed to pull off an A-. For grades, there are only 2 exams and 1 paper. It's all fairly easy. If you paid full attention, I think a 100% average would be very possible to achieve.
I had Dr. Ottati for social psych, and I really liked him as a person. I rarely went to class and my grade suffered because of it, but his lectures were so boring. He was thorough to a fault. The paper was fairly easy, and the midterm wasn't too bad, but I really should have made going to class more of a priority.
This class was interesting and fun. He keeps the class light with videos and jokes and personal stories. Three tests and one 5 page essay, all easy if you just pay attention and take notes in class.
I would most definitely recommend anyone who is interested in social psych to take Dr. Ottati. His powerpoints are simple and easy to understand. There's one paper and 2 tests and the tests could not be any easier. One of the best psych professors i've had at Loyola
not a lot of work, as long as you keep up with the lectures. he sends you the power points, but i personally always found them a bit hard to study from unless i went to class and took additional notes for the slides. he's a very likable professor, but tends to draw examples out. however, overall i would definitely recommend him.
I haven't cracked open either book once and I have a solid A in the class. I don't believe the books are necessary. Dr. Ottati gives very interesting lectures. I laugh a lot in this class and always feel very comfortable. He makes the concepts interesting, and reviews previous lectures at the beginning of each class. Responds to e-mails thoroughly.
He is horrible! He is not funny at all, extremely boring and his exams are super hard. Average grade in my class was C. I would not take him again. You need to pay attention in class in order to do well and take a lot of notes otherwise you will not pass his tests. There is only midterm, final and 6 pg. paper which is nice.
Great professor. Not the easiest but not the hardest either. I got either a B or an A, but know I did well overall by just listening in class and taking notes on his powerpoint slides. I remember writing notes down fast to keep up but his examples and humor made it easy to learn, but the material is interesting in itself.I recommend taking him.
I thought this class was easy. It was also very interesting material and I didn't mind studying for his tests (3 some cumulative and some not, each worth the same). Make sure you attend every lecture and take down notes on his powerpoint slides. Don't bother buying the book, his tests are based on lecture material. Take him!
Very nice professor! Great sense of humor! Uses funny examples to explain concepts making the class more enjoyable. Must show up to class though because PowerPoints are not detailed enough. Must be in class to take detailed notes. Midterm and Final are a bit hard but detailed notes should help. 6-9 Page paper. No homework assignments. TAKE HIM!!!
Ottati is a great professor but do not take this class just to have a blow off class! I am serious, it's three tests and they require class attendance and a lot of paying attention in lecture. If the subject interests you and you do the expected work and studying you'll be fine..
Ottati is awesome. He tells really interesting stories and off handed jokes to keep the class engaged. I took social psych as a 2 and a half hour night class and it never felt that long. Don't buy the book you won't touch it. Attendence isn't mandatory but if he notices you come to class often he will boost your grade at the end of the semester.
This class was not as easy as people make it out to be. You literally have three grades, 2 exams and a paper. The paper was pretty confusing and I struggled with it. Nice and enthusiastic teacher but you NEED TO GO TO CLASS to be able to do well on the exams. I used the text a lot too. Expect to do some work but not a ton.
He's a really cool guy and very nice but the lectures are all powerpoint and are so long and sometimes boring that it takes a lot to pay attention. You have to come to class to really understand what is going on. Three tests which YOU NEED to study for.
Clear lecture material. Fair grader.
Dr. Ottati is very clear about his expectations. Besides that, his class was very interesting.
Ottati is an interesting guy but his 275 can get a bit dull. Wish he had given us study guides/outlines for the few assessments we had because there was a lot of material to cover and it was hard to gauge what we'd be tested on. His essay is pretty challenging too and he doesn't give the best directions for it.
very knowledgeable. he really knows what he's talking about and is well-respected. his lectures can be long but you need to go to class in order to do well because his power points are minimal. he can be really funny. one paper and two tests, so not a lot is going into your grade, but its totally possible to do well.
This professor makes TuThu classes seem short. You can tell he's very passionate about psychology. It is helpful to participate in class, but not necessary. You have 2 exams and 1 paper and those are the only grades all semester. Because of that, you have to work a little to earn an A, but a B is pretty easy to attain.
Not the professor to take if you like interactive learning rather than being lectured at nonstop. Long lectures that are imperative to attend if you want to pass the class is the name of the game. He is kind of funny, though. Overall, I can learn this way but it's not the most fun. I'm a psych major but didn't love psych much during this class.
Great professor with very straightforward expectations. Very easy to get an A in the class if you attend lecture.
One of the easiest classes I've taken. He repeats his lecture from the previous day's class at the beginning of the next class, so don't bother showing up the first day of the week. He has an extra credit paper, and 3 noncumulative exams. It's an easy class with an easygoing professor.
SUPER great teacher, I would definitely take his class again if I were going to major in psychology. Only tests and an optional essay, lots of lecture but not boring. He's funny too.
Gives really interesting lectures and always adds in humor to lighten up the class. Even if you don't read the textbook you'll still do well as long as you go to class and pay attention. Super fun teacher and would definitely take him again!
His classes are entertaining and amazingly interesting. He clearly loves his field of work and goes into tangents about the subject of studies he has taken part in or read on. His grading is fair and even offers a large extra credit boost (you just have to work for it). Easily accessible outside of class and even offers to help you study for tests.
Every class is a lecture. Dr. Ottati often starts lectures slow and tired, but becomes fun and engaging about 15 minutes in. Good choice for social psych. You can either take three 33 question exams, or do the exams plus a paper. If you do the optional paper, you get 3 percentage points added to your final grade. Come to class and its an easy A.
I had some family stuff going on this semester so I wasn't able to go to a lot of the classes but he makes it really easy to succeed. Read the chapters and go over the slides and you shouldn't have a problem getting an A
Professor Ottati is a lecture-heavy professor, guiding the class through powerpoints rather than a textbook (don't get it for this class, you don't use it!) His tests are based off his powerpoint lectures in class, and he gives out an optional paper assignment that can boost your grade. Overall, very knowledgeable and interested in what he teaches.
Ottati is like a social psychology god. He talks a little about his published research which is really interesting. The tests are super easy as long as you go to class. All of the concepts are pretty much common sense and the tests are verbatim to his lecture. Please take him!!
Professor Ottati is straight to the point. He delivers lectures with detailed examples that help you comprehend the topics. He's also even kind of funny. If you take notes remember some names of specific things, you will get an A in his class. Also lets you write a paper if you want to boost your grade.
Great class and great professor! I took this class because I needed to fulfill a general elective course, and I was not disappointed. The lectures were pre-recorded and very easy and interesting to watch, and he went over everything during class too. His exams were very doable and you can write a paper to boost your grade. Definitely recommend!
He does not make a study guide for you. Says his tests are easy but they are hard, I wish he provided a study guide.
To succeed in his class, all you need to do is show up and listen to his lectures, if not al lectures are posted online. He says tests are 80% lecture and 20% reading, but In reality all is mostly on lectures. Tests are so easy if you actually somewhat listen to the lectures and he gives extra credit paper. He honestly gives amazing lectures.
Dr. Ottati is amazing. You can tell that he genuinely loves to teach and wants everyone to succeed. He gave 3 exams and an optional paper. Exams are based heavily on lecture, so make sure to go to class, or watch the video recordings and take notes. Overall created a very positive atmosphere in the classroom. Highly recommend! :)
This class is a lot harder than it should be. The material is easy, but the tests cover the smallest stuff that we never discussed. I have NEVER gotten a C on a test (not even a B-), but the last 2 tests have gotten a C. I would study for HOURS and DAYS as well. He does have an optional paper that saved my grade but he has humbled me.
The course is made up of 3 exams and one optional extra credit paper, no homework. It is lecture heavy so try not to miss class. He provides lecture slides ahead of time which is very helpful. Exams are short but that means you have to do really well to not bring down your grade. I found the exams to be a bit hard but that could just be me.
If you actually want to learn/retain information, definitely take Dr. Ottati. My class was one day a week, definitely a long class, and he always brought energy and engaging lectures. You MUST go to class to do well on exams, the slideshows have little to no info. The more you are engaged/interact, the more personable he gets. 10/10 recommend.
not my absolute favorite professor, but also not the worst. his class is just lectures and he uses pretty out-of-date examples, so it can get a little dull. he has his lectures prerecorded so you're good if you skip. tests are super lecture heavy, so either pay attention or rewatch the lectures to study. one extra credit essay that's not bad at all
Dr. Ottati is an amazing professor! His classes are lecture heavy so I recommend not skipping class but they're interesting and he gives very good examples to help understand. He assigns readings but I have never done them and passed the exams. 3 exams and one optional paper are the grades for the class but it's still easy to get a decent grade.
Dr. Ottati is a great professor, however his classes are exhausting. Classes consist of lectures and slides. Graded by 3 exams and an optional paper. He is very smart and is well known in the field but its obvious that he has been teaching for forever and is bored. I recommend taking his class but avoid taking a 2.5 hour class.
Dr. Ottati is a very intriguing guy. The class set-up is wonderful, with three multiple choice exams and there is a curve if the test results are lower. His examples for the material are very easy to understand and applicable to real-life. He's a cool and laid back professor and I would take his class again!
3 exams including the final. There is an optional extra credit paper that is not hard at all and benefits you a lot so do it. His exams are all from the lecture so definitely don't skip class. He does post his lectures ahead of time so that does help. Take him
I love victor he is hilarious, tests are hard if you don't study but if you get really familiar with the lecture material and take notes during class youll be fine. Take note of the examples he uses because those exact ones are usually on the test. he has all of his lectures recorded and posted on sakai already so if you miss class its no big deal.
A funny, knowledgeable professor that relies mostly on lecture material for exams. Grade is mostly determined by 3 exams of equal weight, but there's an optional paper to boost your grade. Provides online lectures if you can't make it in person. If you don't either use the online lectures or go in person, you won't do well on exams.
There are only three exams and that is all there is. There is one extra credit paper, but he is a hard grader.
Would highly recommend! Your grade is only based on 3 exams, but I found the exams pretty easy as long as I went to class and took good notes on what he was saying and the examples he gives. I found the lectures relatively interesting and he reviews what we went over in the previous class quickly at the beginning of each class which is great.
Dr. Ottati was so fun! He cares about the subject he is teaching, and it shows. Very knowledgeable but he is not bragging about it. Willing to answer questions and help people. Your grade is based off of 3 exams and an optional paper. Gives extra credit on exams. Very respected in the psych department. I would definitely recommend!
I wouldn't say Ottati is amazing, but he's still good! He clearly cares about what he's teaching and the tests aren't too hard if you pay attention/study. There's 0 homework, but you're only graded on 3 tests and an optional paper (which is easy and you should do 100% to boost your grade). The class isn't hard, but ensure you do good on the tests
He is a nice guy but the class is only graded on 3 exams and some extra credit opportunities. If you are a bad test taker you will not do well in this class, even if you attend all the classes and do the readings.
I had a negative experience taking PSYC 275 with Victor Ottati. I found his teaching style to be unhelpful and struggled to keep up with the pace of the class. Despite my interest in the subject matter, I ultimately dropped the course and decided not to pursue a minor in psychology. I hope future students will have a better experience.
While Ottati is a nice guy, his class is only graded on 3 tests and an optional paper. If you are not a good test taker and/or don't take good notes, you will not do well in his class.
Professor Ottati is a good professor. His lectures can drag sometimes, but they are interesting. He can add some funny stories in here and there. There are three exams, all multiple choice, and an optional paper. Super easy class.
Dr. Ottati is a good professor. His class is graded by few things (3 tests to be exact and nothing more), but if you do the optional paper you will be more than alright. His tests are easy, I recommend coming to class for lectures and watching his panoptos and you'll be set. His examples are also a little dated and irrelevant, but he is cool.
I would suggest using knowt to study for his exams. Knowt is kind of like quizlet but except with knowt, you can use pictures with the definition of a term he explains during class! He uses a lot of terminology for his exams with pictures on his slides during his lecture. I'm a visual learner so knowt helped me a lot with his exams.
Victor is one of the nicest teacher's I have ever had. His class is made up of 3 exams and an optional paper for extra credit. His exams are pretty much word-for-word what he discusses in class, and he posts his lectures online if you can't make it to class. He offers extra credit and curves to his exams and was overall a breath of fresh air!
A bit rude. But generally fine. He's also pretty happy to give out extra credit opportunities. Attendance not necessary and he posts slides, and if you just study and know the terms you'll be fine. Some things on the exams are a bit more specific but it's not bad. Just boring. I thought about adding a psych major, he changed my mind.
Victor Ottati's PSYC275 class is fairly straightforward. Attend lectures, watch the recorded Panopto videos, and complete the optional paper - this combo should set you up for success. The exams are manageable, and Unstuck AI can be a helpful study tool alongside other resources.
This class wasn't too difficult, and Dr. Ottati seems very knowledgable, but it can be a tad repetitive at times. Exams themselves are heavily curved which makes them easier to score well on, there is an optional paper that I wasn't able to complete but boosts the grade a lot.
Worst class at Loyola. Prof is dismissive, shuts down opinions, and discourages discussion. Lectures are long and unfocused; exams are extremely difficult, with no study guides or guidance. Book is useless. ask students for phonenumbers 2contact? Not beginner-friendly. Avoid if you struggle with tests or lengthy lectures.
Personally, I love the way Victor Ottati lectures. As someone who loses interest or attention in lectures very fast something about the way he would lecture would always keep me engaged. He is a very fair and reasonable grader and exams are easy if you review lecture material its very straightforward.
Study the slides, do the extra credit essay he offers. He sets you up for success if you do the little work he offers. Theres a couple things in test from the textbook but mostly just study the slide. On his best days he is very eccentric, engaging, and energetic. I liked him as a professor and a person. The pros vastly outweigh the cons.
Professor Ottati's lectures were interesting but very repetitive. Make sure to study for the tests, but they're not crazy hard. He really knows his stuff and has a lot of experience with research which he talks about.
I did not enjoy this professor. He spends a whole lot of time talking about nothing and it felt like he was just trying to get a reaction out of his students the whole time. The tests aren't too bad, material is easy, and there's no homework, but honestly I found it hard to pay attention to any of his lectures. Felt like I learned more by myself.
