Very condescending. Somewhat helpful, but rude when answering questions. Tests are easy. Just study the power-point notes. If you can handle his attitude, take the class.
not condescending-actually pretty nice and supportive, at least more than other profs I've had-tests are easy, powerpoint can get boring-not hard

Very "GQ" like. Pretty nice and helpful. Tests are easy. Power point can get a little boring though. Gets a little too excited over the material. Easy A.

He is just as smart and cool as he is gorgeous. Oh those eyes!

look forward to the class, even tho its in the morning! loves what he does, makes material more intersting. and hes pretty hot ;)
definitely take this class with him, he is an awesome professor. you can tell he is really interested in the material and he knows what he's talking about. and he is soooo hot which makes the class even better

Extremely nice teacher, very helpful. Interesting class, facts easy to understand. Lots and lots of note taking, but its helpful to study for the exams. Oh...and it doesn't hurt that he looks like an Abercrombie model :P
An easy easy class, However I do not think he is hot! I cannot understand those who do, but... to each their own.
Very cool class. He is extremely helpful and nice. However, his lecture style is extremely unorganized and ambiguous. If you go to class and lab you WILL do well in the course.
The class was a joke. I didn't show up to one class and got a B-. Just read the books and lecture notes online the night before the exams and you will do fine.
Perez=HOTT!Every day is pretty much the same, powerpoint slides are the focal point of each lecture. The assigned book to read for the class was Code of the Street by Elijah Anderson and it was very interesting. Only 3 exams and final was only cummulative concerning the COS. Not completely neccessary to read text, but highly recommend to get an A
in theory this class should of been easy. I had a b the entire time and wound up with a d in the class. He was not helpful at all and i basically got screwed in the end. if you have to take this course take it with bachman.
This guy is cool and shows you the matrix on the first day of class. The class is pretty boring some days and very interesting other days. Tests get pretty specific, but it is easy to get a B.
This guy has a nazi attendance policy literally if you are one minute late he marks you absent that's all you need to know.
He seems like a pretty cool guy. Has a strict attendance policy. The tests are not easy, and the lab is not easy either. Don't take this class if you want an easy A, you have to put a lot of effort in.
Not an easy class. Tests are hard. Lab is rediculous. I would have passed the class if it wasn't for the lab. Sometimes a lot of things he says are unclear even when you ask questions. I would study for hours on end to barely pass an exam. The sample exams are helpful and the worksheets are too. It's easy if you like Statistics, but who does?
easy class. showed up like 5 times and during quiz/exam days. got an A. read the book and you'll be fine.
Pretty much the best (and hottest) teacher I've had here so far. I took his class first semester of Freshman year and I'm now a Sophomore, I would def. recommend his class. Plus, he's a total babe.
very easy to understand.. tends to repeat things a lot- more like a discussion rather than lecture. Pretty hot- made me want to go to class but also distracted me from retaining any info
Great professor! Interesting class and really interacts with the students. Tests are fair as long as you study from the book.
He cares about his students and is extremely passionate about the subjects he teaches. Tests are detailed, but if you do the readings and come to class there's no excuse for doing poorly. Plus, in case you couldn't tell from everyone else, he's pretty fun to look at. Highly recommended!
An amazing professor. Obviously really cares about what he is teaching. If you show that you care, he'll do whatever he can to help. Attendance not mandatory but will help with tests. Reading the textbook is essential, but not a problem because its a great book. Take his class.
He definitely cares about what he teaches. His tests are pretty easy - pay attention to every statistic he gives in class and in the book, they will ALL be on the tests! We watched some good movies and he gives very interesting lectures (some days can be boring though) and interacts with students a lot during class. Material is interesting.
he is the most arrogant teacher i have ever had. he is boring and his tests are the most detailed tests i have ever had. WHO EVER THINKS HES HOTT. . . HES NOT! take another sociology teacher because his final is cumulative and everyone elses is not. attendance is not madatory but NEVER miss a class because 75% of the test is notes. . horrible class
i actually did better in chemistry then this class. . . its horrible. take ANY OTHER TEACHER BUT HIM!!
Great professor. Made me want to be a Sociology major. Encourages class discussion, but can be a little caustic if he disagrees with you. Interesting class, very passionate professor. Definitely recommend taking 201 with him
Hottest teacher I have had so far. He includes his students in his lectures. The class is really not that hard. All you have to do is study his notes and the book and you will do fine. The tests are pretty straightforward and the final was pretty easy. I got a B+ only because I messed up a little on the second test. Take him!
Great Professor, obviously loves what he teaches about. Very involving and helpful on a personnal level. Sometimes, you get the impression that he likes to seem really smart and loves to hear himself talk.
Perez is awesome, and a real cutie, which doesn't hurt. Very passionate about Soci. I loved his class so much, I changed my major to Soci! Very helpful and always understanding. 4 tests, take notes and read the textbook, and you'll be fine.
Very passionate about his subject. Easy A since grade is just 4 multiple choice exams. Skim the book and go to class and you'll have no trouble.
He's so dreamy!! He's a nice guy who loves sociology. You must go to class which can be boring sometimes, but there's alwasy something nice to look at (him). The labs aren't too bad (but he doesn't teach the labs anyway, it's the TA). If you have to take 301, he's a good choice.
oh man, he is cute! haha i have never had a teacher as good looking as him. To me the class itself is for the most part interesting, but there are some things i don't necessarily agree with. He repeats many facts which makes it easier to remember. The class consists of four tests, and four tests only. So if you are a good test taker i recommend it
The material in itself is not terribly challanging. There are 4 exams that all are M/C. The exams seemed to start off easy and become progressivly harder as the semester went on,so be sure to do well early.Furthermore, the material can be intresting at times
He is passionate about what he teaches, however I didn't always agree with what he was teaching. His class follows the book so if you miss class, just read the book!
Most likely one of the best professors in the University. The right amount of lecture and discussion and makes every topic interesting. if you go to class, take notes, and read you will do fine on the tests which are 50 multiple choice questions. excellent teacher.
I DID BETTER IN CHEMISTRY AND CALC THAN I DID IN THIS CLASS. Good guy but a bad professor. Test are really hard. Read every chapter and read everything he gives out in class. To much work for an intro class. Take another professor if possible!!!
He's great to look at but his notes are a bit all over the place. Go to his class, he always discusses interesting topics. READ THE BOOK. It will save you. He puts questions on the test about stuff that was never mentioned in class but is in the text. Tests are fair and not too tricky as long as you study. I would take the class again if I could.
This class was really interesting and even though it was a bigger lecture, we had a lot of interesting class discussions. Go to class and take good notes and read all of the chapters he assigns. I would definitely take this class again.
The class consists of four test spread throughout the semester. They are multiple choice, and most of the questions come from the book, in class videos and from key facts in class (which he will point out.) The lecture is somewhat interesting because he really likes to discuss with the class.
Perez is a really nice guy. The class isn't too bad as long as you study everything. You need to read the text and go to class. I got an A, but I worked for it.
He comes off as very full of himself. Acts as if everyone is already a researcher and his vocabulary is impressive but limits his ability to communicate with the class. I have no idea what he is actually saying most of the time. He is attractive so if you don't listen and just look at him it might not be that bad, until you fail miserably.
Class is interesting, but the tests are next to impossible and irrelevant to the class notes/textbook sometimes. Will put random questions that no one knows on the test. I studied all the notes and outlined the book and still got Bs and Cs on the tests.
Perez is a nice guy but not approachable at all. He takes the class way to seriously, which is good if you are interested in the material. If not, definitely take someone else-- NOT AN EASY A WITH PEREZ
Perez is not a bad teacher, he just teaches the worst classes. 301 is by far the worst class I've taken in my 4 years at UD. You buy 2 textbooks which do not go with anything you actually learn in class. Just go and take good notes and try to stay awake.
the teacher is really hot and i loved his lectures but if you are a bad test taker DO NOT TAKE HIM. he has 4 exams and thats it but the exams are really hard to do good on. i dont know where he got the questions from because i read the book and all my notes and got help and still did bad
Terrible teacher. He puts the absolute dumbest questions on tests about stupid statistics and asks alot of questions from in class movies. DO Not take unless you want to go to every class and put in a lot of effort and still not get an A
He is a terrible teacher.
Seems more worried about wearing the latest fashions from Express and GQ rather than teaching the class.Tries to use big words to make himself sound sophisticated. I would still take the class, be prepared to do a lot of work. nice guy to go for office hours.
I barely squeaked by his class but... he is soo sexy! I can't wait to graduate so I can come back for him. The only time I fell asleep was when I had dirty dreams haha
Dr. Perez is SUCH a NICE guy and is ALWAYS willing to help you out with whatever you need. I would HIGHLY suggest going to his office hours because that is when he is the most helpful.. this class on the other hand is HORRIBLE. I would have never have taken it if it weren't required by my major. Study hard b/c the tests get harder as class goes on.
This class is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, GO TO CLASS! GO TO LAB! If you just put in the effort and review outside of class a bit you will be fine. He seemed a little standoffish at first, but actually ended up really caring that we knew what we were doing.
this class is terrible but not because of perez. the material is boring and dry but i'm not sure anyone could have done a better job of explaining than perez did. GO TO CLASS. GO TO LAB. you'll be fine. the class requires work but he's a great professor. and so helpful.
Nice guy but his lectures are pretty ambiguous and all over the place. It didn't help having a terrible TA either. If you have take this class and the TA is Ross walk right out the door... very arrogant and useless. Overall the class sucks but he is not too bad of a teacher
As long as you attend class and go to lab, you'll be fine. Yes the class requires you to do practice problems and pay attention in class if you want an A. This is college, it's expected. Extremely helpful in office hours, very amusing, and wants his students to succeed. Everyone who gives him a bad rating was lazy or didn't attend class.
Hes extremely nice. That is until you don't finish an exam because you run out of time or you show up late to class(thats a BIG no no).The majority of it is statistics work. He thoroughly explains the material, sometimes in too much detail. Go to class because attendance is mandatory. If you understand the material reading the text is unnecessary.
All i can say is. RUN. RUN FARRRR AWAY FROM THIS CLASS!! It is quite possibly the worst class i have ever taken in my life. You will work your butt off for a C-. Be expected to have a background in stat before taking this class and the level of work you put in is graduate level. IF YOU CAN, TAKE IT WITH SOMEONE ELSE
this was a HORRIBLE class. the lectures were boring and all over the place, readings were uninteresting, exams were ridiculous, and if you dont show up to class, there goes attendence points. Also, you better go to lab bc you have a midterm and final, which is pointless. I would stay away from this guy if you can, take it with the other professor!
STAY AWAY! Dr. Perez's lectures are painfully unorganized and incomprehensible. Grading on written work is ambiguous and subjective and there is an excessive amount of take-home work (several 10+ page papers.) Test questions are not pulled from lecture OR readings. Unless you have a doctorate in sociology, take with Randolph. She's wonderful.
Honestly he's just not a nice person. Class is really boring and tests are pretty hard. The attendance policy is borderline fascist as well. If you can, take someone else for this class.
He is honestly one of the worst professors I have ever had. Extremely arrogant, calls out kids in class and makes an already boring subject worse. Does not relate to students at all. Makes things unnecessarily hard and says stuff like "the aggregate mean score" instead of just saying the class' average score. Also takes attendance everyday
He's extremely full of himself. Assigns WAY too much work for this class, in one week we had a lab midterm, a 10 page paper and an exam. While he is clear and explains the material well he's not helpful outside of class, takes hims an eternity to respond to emails and grade exams. I would take this class with ANY other professor.
Really cool professor, material is fairly easy to understand if you go to class and read the text. The material seems harder than it really is, and Perez does a good job going through it. Exams are decent as long as you go through your notes and the readings in advance. Would definitely take a class with again.
201 was a tough class, much of the material didn't make much sense and I'm a sociology major. Perez was kind of weird in this class, though some may find some of the material interesting. I ended up taking him again down the road and he was actually much better in the 2nd class. Study hard for the class, because it's tough.
i disagree with the pepper
Perez really knows his stuff, but expects a lot from you. His tests are a mix of multiple choice, true/false, and math problems. Oh yeah, this class has some math. The math is actually really simple but there is a lot of content to know for each test. Take Perez if you have no other option or enjoy being challenged. Over all a pretty nice guy.
he is his own biggest fan. do not take this class. i tried i really hard to like him but he's just not a nice guy. the ta was great, really helpful so if youre stuck with him, use her as a resource
AVOID this guy if a C would seriously hurt your GPA. His exams are HARD. You have to know exactly how he wants you to word everything to a T. I had more lax attendance policies in grade school. He will assign a 10 page paper right after a lab midterm and then an exam right after that. Ive never mastered the material and still struggled like this b4
Perez is a challenging professor who makes the subject more difficult than it already is. His exams suck and are tricky, his lectures very disorganized and can only be understood by him. You do little in the class that relates to the sociology major . He offers little clarity on on the subject, but the TA is great. If anything utilize the TA.
not very helpful. he makes it way to hard. not really clear at all. take someone else
After reading the reviews for Perez, I expected the worst. Two tests down, and I'm feeling pretty confident. So far, its been relatively easy. His tests are manageable, lab is simple and a good grade booster, and he teaches well.
Not the best. Most discussions consist of him calling on students in class and letting them ramble on for a few minutes. He doesn't really teach. Also assigns 10 page essays and gives about a week to do them. Also a BIG FAN of group work.
Extremely arrogant and does not explain topics clearly.
this teacher is absolutely horrible, don't take him. save yourself and your G.P.A. very rude, does not care about students and gives hard tests. worst teacher i have ever had in my entire life
His lectures were all over the place. Videos were pointless and sometimes irrelevant. Can't really study except memorize and take notes on every single thing that comes out of his mouth because he doesn't believe in using textbooks. Exams have irrelevant questions that we never covered in class. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH PEREZ.
Perez's class requires a lot of studying in order to succeed on exams. Although if you study his study guides it really is an easy A. He does not believe in textbook use and a lot of exam questions are based on what he says in class if you are lucky enough to pick up on it. Not hard to obtain a B in this class at all. Obtaining an A is difficult.
Perez is the man. He would send out random articles and things that were relevant to class all of the time. I literally had no interest in sociology before but his class but interesting and reasonably easy. I put in minimal effort and got an A.
Dr. Perez's class is not necessarily easy, but he gives you all the tools to do well in his class. He is extremely nice and very approachable. His lectures and power points are well thought out and make great study aids. Tests are not easy but his study guides are well put together and helpful.
He is an awesome person and I would definitely take another one of his classes. He took us to IKEA, it was awesome. Definitely take this class it was a lot of fun. No exams or final in honors section just a few assignments throughout the semester
Awesome professor who really cares about the topic and his students. If you pay attention the assignments aren't difficult and the class can be very rewarding. Definitely take
TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Perez is one of my favorite teachers, EVER. He is understanding and really teaches his students in class. I learned so much in his class. Tests are super easy. There's one book he assigns. I never read it and knew every answer on the test about it since he goes over it in class. Super, fun class. I learned a lot. TAKE PEREZ!!!
He really knows what he is teaching and he makes the lectures really funny. I enjoyed attending class. You can skip 25% of lectures (about 12) but watch on UDcapture. Attendance is taken from iClicker questions. Relates material to everyday events. Very funny. If you study you will get A. Makes study guide. No textbooks. 3 ch tests- no cumulative
Definitely possible to get an A without putting in that much effort. Make sure you read the few readings and complete the study guide before the exam. Show up to class a majority of the time because you get attendance graded by the clicker, but you can miss a certain percentage. Keeps class entertaining by relating topics to today and he jokes.
This class you can get an A if you put in minimal effort. Only have to show up to 75% of classes to get full credit. Do the study guides and you'll get an A.
After reading some of the reviews on here I was really nervous to take his class. I had him for intro to sociology, honors. The class was small and easy because all we do is talk. He's always been helpful when I asked questions. He also let me re-write a paper that I didn't do well on. If you do well on your papers and participate it's easy.
Easy class, nice enough guy, ready and willing to help if you need it. Very passionate about the material.
easy online class that requires some time to take notes but you can look things up online and in ur notes during tests
Dr. Perez is awesome! He is very passionate about the subject and engaging in discussion. Grades are participation and 4 relatively easy research papers. Only complaint is that his opinions can be one-sided and difficult to argue with. But whatever, he's human. 1010 would recommend taking this if you need an honors course or a Group C requirement!
Mr. Perez is a great professor, the tests are staright from the notes he gives you in class, & he gives study guides that relate completely to the tests. there is an online textbook but if you don't buy it you'll still get an A. He's a great lecturer and a nice person overall. 75% of classes must be attended. Highly reccomend his class.
Perez was one of my favorite professors here at UD. He's always emphasizing his willingness to help, his lectures are entertaining and relate to the real world, and he clearly states what to expect on the exams. There are 4 exams (25 questions) that are easy as long as you go to class or watch the lectures. Very interesting material.
very easy class. no final- 4 exams throughout the semester. only 3 homework assignments. tests are super easy. you have to go to class though because participation counts towards grade
Tests are based on details in class so you need to go or listen to course capture. Clicker questions count for attendance and are a big portion of your grade. Only 3 homework assignments - really easy. He's charming!
I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Perez's class, and it would be one that I looked forward to going to every day. He's not a hard grader, and the stuff he teaches is actually pretty interesting. As for Dr. Perez himself, he's awesome and kind of wish he was my dad.
He's a great professor and he tries to make his lecture interesting for the students. The grading is shown in the syllabus and if you study well an A isn't gonna be that hard. The exams are 25 questions and can be kinda confusing, but not that bad. The TA graded too hard on the assignments and that held me back from getting an A, but Perez is great
Dr. Perez is an outstanding professor!! there are 4 exams that are 25 questions each, and they're pretty straightforward! You'll pass the exams as long as you go to class because the questions are based off the lectures. The lectures are also relevant and interesting as well. If you need an easy social science breadth requirement, takes this class
If you need a breadth requirement for sociology, this is your guy. Iclicker so show up for class, long lectures, only a couple assignments (that take five minutes) to do throughout the entire year. Study the slides, lecture notes, and resources and you'll do fine. Put in three-four hours of studying in before an exam to get an A.
good class, interesting, easy A if you make effort. no homework, no quizzes, no cumulative final. very understandable and helpful if you ask questions.
Victor is awesome. He makes sociology very straight forward and easy to understand. He has clickers but you only need to attend 75% of the lectures to get full credit. Gives helpful study guides before the exam and exams aren't too long or too hard. Recommend this class to anyone needing to take SOCI201
Very interesting class and nice guy. Four tests, none are cumulative and only three short homework assignments all semester. I got an A and as long as you pay attention in class and look at the study guides before the test you should be fine. I didn't feel like I had to put in a crazy amount of work to get an A. Would take again.
Amazing professor. He genuinely cares about his students and cares that you are getting something out of his class, lectures are very interesting. Reading before the lecture is a must, exams are not too difficult if you do the readings and participate in class discussions. He will definitely challenge you. He will become your favorite professor
This class should have been my easiest of the semester, but I just did not do nearly as well on the exams as I would have liked. Also exams were 90% of grade. The questions are super specific so you have to make sure you know everything inside and out. He's kinda rude too he calls people out in the middle of class if they're not paying attention.
This class was interesting on it's own, but Professor Perez made it so much more interesting. He's clear and doesn't stray from the material when teaching. He loves when students participate in class. The course material is easy to learn and there are 4 exams a semester. Definitely go to class to at least get clicker points.
I took this class expecting it to be an easier class but it was not. The content was very interesting, but expect to study hard for the exams and still not got an A. His exams are very specific and make it almost impossible to get an A. 90% of the class is exams and the other percentage is participation and little assignments.
Dr. Perez is nice and the material is very interesting. However, I expected this class to be super easy and it wasn't. I had to work a decent amount to get a B+. I recommend his class but understand that you have to put quite a bit of effort in. Also, the 4 exams are 90% of the grade so that was bad for me because I'm a bad test taker.
He is an amazing lecturer and very inspirational. I never used to think much of Sociology, and now I have decided to minor in it, much because of him. It is not an easy A, but you learn so much. Also, there are no text books and no homework.
Hard class, take with another teacher if possible. Boring lecturer and tests seem to always come out to a 70
Perez is the man! So glad I had him as my professor. He's REALLY nice, and his lectures are amazing. He really made Sociology interesting to learn about. No textbook and no homework. I wouldn't say it's an easy A but it's worth it to have him as a professor! Take if you can!
The worst professor I've ever had, he gives terrible lectures that are boring and expects you to remember his personal opinions more than the actual material for questions on the test. I would never take a class with him again.
I took sociology hoping to have a lighter easier elective type class, however this class was quite the opposite. The exams are 90% of your final grade in the class which makes it very difficult to earn an above average grade.
Dr. Perez ranks pretty high on the professor scale. Lectures cover material that is thought-provoking and relatable. No agenda is forced on students, but rather a fascination with the current developments in today's society. The course is very much exam-based in grading (90%), but the exams are pretty standard in terms of difficulty. Worthwhile.
Professor Perez was a great professor. It's an easy A if you show up to class (& actually pay attention), skim the readings, generally know the stuff on the study guide (KNOW ALL THE STATS HE GIVES YOU- you'll thank me later) & submit the few assignments on time. A basic college class and nothing too challenging if you pay attention & notes.
Really enjoyed this class, only thing is that it is hard to get an A because you are graded on few assignment. The exams are not cumulative, but 90% of your grade is the exams, so prepare to study hard. The exams can be tricky because there is a lot of specific facts, but all multiple choice. Come to class, even though its not mandatory.
Great speaker but it gets old. His tests are all multiple choice, however each question is about a paragraph in length and can be as specific as "What was the sentence I read in the third class from the book by Mills" If there are better are options , avoid this class like the plague.
Take Professor Perez! He is such a great teacher and he's super cool. He just really enjoys teaching sociology. In his class, you're graded on four exams (one of which is the "final", but it's NOT cumulative, it's just a normal fourth exam) and then four critical thinking questions (worth 5 points, SUPER easy). I HIGHLY recommend taking him.
90% of your grade is the exams. however the exams are decently easy. KNOW THE STATS HE GIVES YOU!!!!!! He is a pretty good lecturer but they can get kind of boring sometimes. You can tell he is very passionate about the course. Do the readings and study a few days before and you'll be fine. would def recommend if you have to take this course.
I highly recommend this class. Perez is obviously very passionate about sociology and the class is very engaging. You really need to go to class and make sure you take notes to do well. I would always just fill out the study guides he makes and the tests would be very fair. Not hard to get an A, take him!!!!!
Great professor stuck in a bad class. Probably better if youre a soc major but I took it as a gen ed and struggled the whole semester. His tests are really specific and the topics are utterly random.
I'm a Sociology major and seeing Dr. Perez so passionate every class keeps me going. His exams aren't hard but they're not easy either. As long as you attend class, understand the material, and remember certain statistics, you'll pass. It's very easy to understand him as he's teaching and he repeats the important stuff. It's hard to lose focus.
THIS MAN DESERVES A 5.0 RATING!!! i really loved taking SOCI201 with him and wish I could have him every semester!! while attendance is not mandatory you NEED to go to class to do well because all notes are given in class and its the only way you'll pass. Show up, pay attention enough to copy the notes, and you'll get an A :)
Truly cares about he's teaching and if you're understanding the information. Tests are easy if you pay attention. If you're going to take sociology, take him.
Passionate about what he teaches. There are 4 exams and they are extremely easy if you just pay attention to the class. Everything that is on the exams he gives you in your notes. Definitely recommend taking him.
Perez is a great professor. He is always willing to meet for office hours if you don't understand things and really cares. Definitely attend class and take good notes and you will have no problem.
The course is four exams and four open-ended online submissions. The open-ended assignments are super easy and assigned way in advance but if you don't submit on time you don't get any credit and can really kill your grade. The exams aren't hard just take notes on the shell slides. Doctor Perez is really great don't be afraid to ask questions.
In my opinion Perez comes off a little full of himself. However, he is still a good teacher. You need the book for the course and be prepared to be asked questions about it. He does use a clicker for attendance but there are also notes given in class that he won't share online so you have to show up. Overall not a class to worry about, very average
Perez is a solid professor. He knows what he's talking about and he's very passionate about sociology. For a breadth course, it wasn't too bad, not that much effort put in and got a decent grade. Definitely have to show up to class, since he puts up "shell slides" and doesn't do course capture.
Dr. Perez is a good teacher, I feel like I actually learned a great deal from the class. However, it you're looking for an "easy A" this class is not for you. Take the other professor.
I took this class as what seemed like an easy A for a breadth requirement. To my amazement, Victor Perez always does a great job at leaving students unprepared for exams. You need to listen to literally every word he says if you want to do remotely well on his exams, 75% of the questions on exams say "As we discussed in class...". Easy A? Not here.
GO TO CLASS AND PAY ATTENTION. Good professor overall, pretty funny, but lectures are somewhat unorganized and specific things from the lectures are on the test word-for-word. Includes questions on the tests that start with "According to Dr. Perez..." and expects specifics to be remembered. Study for the tests and take good notes!
He repeats facts that will be on the tests; pay attention! Used clickers, but attendance doesn't contribute to grade. His tests are basically his way of seeing if you read the assigned articles or not, w specific questions. 5 exams, non cumulative, easy. 1 textbook. Beginning of the course was focused on sex/gender. laugh at his dad jokes!
Continually impressed by his ability to cultivate articles and scholarly essays that contribute meaningfully to the course. 3 exams, 1 research project, he counts how many times you participate. Best way to study is to read EVERY article over again, make sure you go to class (he drops hints on what the essays will be). You got this! rly cool info!
I feel like if he broke down the lecture into simpler explanations and used case studies or stories it may be easier to understand the material. More extensive powerpoint slides would be helpful rather than short slides with emphasis on verbal lecture. Only 4 exams and 4 papers.
4 exams (90%) and 4 assignments (10%) is your entire grade. He doesn't post the full slides online so you have to go to class. Nice guy, decent lectures, but not good enough to have no online resources. Tests are like 80% based off the readings so study those the most. Wasn't so bad, just a shame there were easy A teachers for the same course.
Dr Perez is my favorite professor I have had so far at UD!! He knows how to make lectures interesting and if you go to class and pay attention you will be totally fine. Attendance is somewhat mandatory because he does use clickers. If you have to take soci201 I definitely recommend taking it with Dr Perez.
Dr. Perez is a very good online professor. His lectures are in-depth and interesting. Also, the material he used (websites, articles, etc.) for my Sociology class were really interesting. Definitely take a lot of notes, even of the things you think are minute details, because he likes to use those details on exams.
I personally did not enjoy him nor his class. I thought the material was interesting at times, but it was frustrating how minute of details were tested. He is a nice guy, but he needs to make the tests less contingent upon memorizing such small details.
All he does it lecture and he is sort of all over the place. Gives out MANY readings that are hard to understand (scientific words). Only grades are 4 exams (90%) and 4 papers (10%). For every exam, my class average of 200 people was 70%. No extra credit given. Would NOT recommend to ANYONE! Sad there is easy A professors. Save yourself the stress.
He's a great lecturer and provides great content related to sociological themes and concepts. However, you are treated as a number in this course. I tried submitting an assignment 15 mins late and despite him teaching about how difficult it to work as a student (I work 2 jobs), he wouldn't take the assignment. Only B I have received in college.
I took the honors section. There were four units, each had a test and a paper. The tests required studying to do well, but it was primarily statistics from articles he provides. The papers were interesting and fairly easy to complete. The end of the semester I did not want to work and it was my least favorite unit. Try in the beginning.
Dr. Perez is such a good dude & his lectures are honestly interesting. This class isnt hard and all you need to do to pass is pay attention, take good notes, and actually study for exams.
Virtual learning with him has been awful. Has not shown face/explained the course. Not helpful outside of class. Insane amount of readings (I'm in the major & I read plenty, I'm aware of a respectable amount of hw). Between lectures, textbook, assignments, and readings it's a horrible class structure and he's not very considerate especially w covid
This is one of the worst online classes I've taken in my life. He has had all summer to prepare for stuff, yet he's still using lectures from 2016. He assigns so many readings, but there's no homework, so there's literally no way to check your understanding. The TA is terrible too. Literally never take this class if you don't have to
I took this class online and it was asynchronous. Both the professor and TA were very difficult graders, they would critique the smallest things. Your overall grade is solely on how well you do on the labs, exams and papers. They are easy to get in touch with but not helpful. This class was mandatory for me but if its not for you dont take it.
I took this class as an asyn class. Quizzes were 15 questions(timed and can't go back) and directly based on very long lectures. Note-taking everything from the lectures is how I did well in this course. There is a few other assignments but quizzes are graded highest. Gives plenty of time to go through lectures.
Dr. Perez is great at leading discussions about sociology that help you learn how to speak about your ideas and that teach you even more about the subject. He also has several very interesting supplemental materials for the class that are surprisingly genuinely interesting and helpful. I learned so many cool things from this course.
The reordered lectures are just okay. This class has 4 tests 4 papers and 3 projects. He's not too hard of a grader but the test questions are really specific details. He allows for open notes but it does not make learning the material fun. Overall I think the class material is interesting but I had the tests
He's a very nice and understandable professor. I felt that the format of his online class (flipped classroom) was not very beneficial to learning. We had to watch lectures outside of class on top of the class discussion. The discussions were interesting and quizzes were fair, I just wish there was a better structure to the class.
This man assigned a 10-page essay due the second week of class. This should tell you all you need to know but he is very lecture-heavy and kinda boring.
The class is lecture heavy so be prepared to listen intently and take LOTS of notes. He posts recordings of the lectures afterwards and attendance is by clicker. There are 5 exams, and a canvas quiz and essay for each unit. Tests are fact based (true/false with numbers/percentages, etc) and need to take good notes to do well.
He talks fast and goes through the notes quickly. The exams didn't fairly test what we discussed in class. The test questions were specific questions based on things he mentioned in class maybe only once or twice or in the article. The writing assignments were hard to write because the question was never clear. Definitely wouldn't take again
I hated his lectures, every other soci201 class had interesting topics. He is very liberal and opinionated and incorporates it into every lecture. He did not post the slides in class and would but up page long quotes. The exams were terrible, needed to memorize like 5 readings and everything he says in class. WOULD AVOID.
Be prepared to listen to lectures and take REALLY good notes. Lots of statistics and quotes on exams. Exams were MC and T/F. Very little assignments - quiz, essay, exam for each unit. Uses clicker for attendance. Exams are easy if you write down very single thing he says in class
Not one person in my class has any idea whats going on. He does not post any notes and talks 10000 miles a minute. His study guides for exams are just questions about sociological topics that he will never give you the answer to. Just never take his class srsly.
There are 5 units. For each unit, there is a 10-question canvas quiz, a 1-page paper, and an in-person exam with 35 questions. There is no final or midterm and he makes information easy to find. He uses Clicker in his class and usually uses the clicker questions on the tests/exams. Class is easy if you take notes and read the few required readings
Dr. Perez is a nice guy, however the way he grades is only based on five homework and the tests. If you do bad on one test, it can be extremely difficult to pick up your grade. There is also no extra credit. But he is a very smart guy, you just have to be prepared.
Dr. Perez is a very, very, very nice guy. I will say that his lectures are pretty boring though. As for exams, you have to write everything he says down; If you do that you will do well.
Good person, but the class is very difficult, and he doesn't make it any easier.
It's 5 modules with 1 online quiz, 1 paper and 1 test for each. The topics are super interesting and make you think. However, you can tell that on tests he's adding random questions just to get enough for points. He could easily take away 5-10 dumb questions. I would recommend the class though, I'm still getting a high B and enjoy it.
I took the honors section of SOCI201. We had 5 units, each only had 1 open-note online quiz and writing assignment that takes an hour max to complete. The midterm and finals are two essays each, but not cumulative (midterm was units 1-3 and final is 4-5). Lecture heavy, but his voice is like a podcast lol its not that bad
Overall, great professor. Lectures are very straightforward but can be boring. Writing assignments and readings are super easy, but exams are pretty difficult. He definitely throws a couple of trick/weirdly worded questions in. I did really great in the class in terms of quizzes and assignments but struggled on the exams. Good class though.
Dr. Perez was a great teacher for my first Sociology class ever. He knows what he is talking about, is well-organized, and he creates an environment where asking questions and sharing opinions is encouraged. There are 5 online quizzes, 5 writing assignments, and then written essays for the final and midterm. His class was super manageable.
He really helps you understand the topics
Dr.Perez is a fine professor, however the class is on the difficult side. Attendance is mandatory. Papers and quizzes are easy. Tests are difficult. Lectures are boring. Was a little rude over email.
Really loved him and his class. Took the honors section which consisted of long lectures with discussion elements. Two exams (midterm and final) where we wrote two essays in 50 minutes. Papers our only graded hw and were long but relatively easy and graded by a TA. Occasional quiz (open note). Some boring days, but mostly learned a lot.
Professor Perez was okay, sometimes the exams were difficult to understand because he would have the most oddly specific questions on there, so you do have to study. Other than that, the quizzes and papers were easy. You do have to buy a clicker for attendance, but overall he was a nice professor.
I enjoyed taking Dr. Perez's class. We did have to buy an iClicker tho! He is cares about what he teaches and is willing to help us outside of class. There is a lot of content, but they are fun to learn about.
he was very passionate about what he thought and some topics definitely got me thinking about connections in the outside world. you need to go to class and write notes or u will bomb the exams. some stuff just does not matter that he asks on the quiz like its a bunch of who said what instead of why it even matters. sociology degree is useless.
The majority of this class is lectures and articles posted for you to read. Graded mostly on exams and occasional 10-point papers. Perez was not understanding of outside circumstances, so be prepared to complete every assignment in this class no matter what's happening outside the classroom. After add-drop period Perez gets lazy with lectures.
Dr. Perez is a super smart man and passionate about sociology, his lectures were just insanely boring. Every 2ish weeks you have two small papers and an online quiz on Fridays. If you don't take notes you're gonna bomb them. I wouldn't recommend him it's a ton of work for an intro class.
Some of his lectures were genuinely interesting. The only issue is that you will be given writing assignments every 2-3 weeks along with a quiz. He's a cool dude though.
Although attendance is not mandatory it is still important to attend lectures. Things discussed in lecture is brought up in quizzes. Interesting topics and although there are a lot of readings they are pretty interesting so it is not so bad. Two writing assignments per quiz so about ten for the semester, but they are only one page. Would recommend!
Good prof, not a ton of work
Dr. Perez is a passionate lecturer, and he really cares about what he teaches. I took the honors section, so it was a small class and he really got to know us all. He did a good job of getting people to talk in class discussions. Only issue was that he struggled to grade on time, but it sounded like he had a lot going on outside of the classroom.
He seemed quite passionate about what he was teaching but it was hard to make discussion possible in class because it was a huge lecture. There were five units with 1 quiz and 2 writing assignments for each unit, which weren't hard. The quizzes were on very random, niche material from his lectures, so as long as you take notes, you'll be fine.
He is really passionate about the topic. 1 paper for each of 4 units, with an exam and a group presentation for each also. Lecture based, and you really have to understand the concepts backwards and forwards for the exams. No curves or extra credit. Pay attention in lecture and take good notes to prep for exams, it will really help you.
I am taking the honors section of this class and I would recommend to take it for credit if needed. You have to go to class in order to take the notes necessary to do well on quizzes. The honors section has 4 quizzes, 4 writing assignments, and 1 group project. An easy class as long as you go to class and take good notes.
Super nice professor and very intelligent; topics are common sense and minimal assignments. Essays and at home quizzes along with the midterm and final exams are the only things he will assign.
Professor Perez is very sweet and the lectures were very informative. However, I didn't like how this class was only graded on 4 writing assignments, 4 quizzes that were hard, and a midterm and the final. The TA grades the writing assignments and can be harsh. He's very sweet, but some things could be changed to make it easier.
Don't recommend! Only grades were 4 online exams, 4 one-page papers (graded harshly), and two in-person exams (midterm and final). He used to have no in-person exams (which is why people recommended him before), but now he does. He only provides the shell slides, so you have to go to class if you want to do well. Take SOCI201 online tbh.
Definitely important to pay attention during lectures because a lot of the test material will be based on that. As long as you regularly attend class, try to participate, and understand the general concepts/themes of class, you should be able to do fine.
Perez's lectures are informative, but the assessments can be challenging - lots of quizzes and papers. Attendance is a must. Unstuckstudy helped me ace the quizzes. Overall, a solid intro sociology class.
His lectures were very interesting, but if you missed one you missed lots of material. As a non-sociology major, the ideas that were discussed seemed a little subjective at times which made studying for tests more difficult. You have to really study any notes that he provides during his looong lectures to understand the material.
His voice is very monotone and it was very hard to pay attention. The slides he showed were hard to read and take notes on. The tests had content that was very hyper specific and were very difficult if you didn't read the 12 different studies he assigned as weekly reading.
Professor Perez was one of the nicest professors I have ever had at UD. He truly cares about his students and wants them to do well. He is very passionate about all of the topics he teaches and it is a relatedly easy course with online quizzes and papers, as well as an in person mid term and final exam.
He's a really great teacher and actually said a lot of interesting things, a little boring at times but not horrible. In person, closed note exams but if you come to class they are EASY because all you have to do is listen to understand. Quizzes are all online, and only 4 one page papers for the whole semester.
Professor Perez is awesome. The two exams were questions from the quizzes. He would talk a lot, but all the information was helpful in order to understand the material in the textbooks and readings. Only thing I would complain about was that he talked really fast and didn't use slides much, so taking notes was difficult, but you don't really need.
Dr. Perez is a nice guy. His class, though, is a different story. It is extremely disorganized, and the teacher cancels class often. Four papers are graded super harshly, and four quizzes are tough. The midterm and final were more fair. He comes off quite rude through email. I would recommend taking a different professor.
I did not enjoy this professor at all. His lectures feel like he's just spewing his opinions and controversial things to get people to listen and then he tests you on it. He makes you read tons of articles and discuss them in class. These articles are necessary because about half of the questions on the tests are about them.
Professor Perez was very nice and I found his lectures intriguing! Class is 4 units, accompanied by 4-5 readings that culminate in an online quiz (based on reading/lecture materials) and a small writing assignment. Attendance does matter b/c he provides content covered on quizzes. Midterm/final have a large chunk of recycled quiz questions.
Dr. Perez is a great teacher. If you pay attention in the lectures and participate, as well as studying for quizzes you will succeed in this class.
Dr. Perez was a good professor and very thorough in his lectures. You need to attend the majority of classes to get an A.
Victor Perez hs a very lecture centered class. He uses very few slide so note taking is almost impossible. He loves to near himself talk and often inserts his opinions within the lecture then tests you on them. In person Exams. Quizzes/Papers online.
Disclaimer!! I dropped this class. Smart prof, but he only uses slides for graphs visuals etc, no worded explanations to assist with notes or to refer to later. No recordings either. He understands the material but isn't good at teaching it. The class is entirely graded based on exams and essays. Don't take if you want slides or struggle w/ tests
took him for 201 which was eh, but 301 is wayyyy different. very lecture heavy with slides that do not explain what is going on. also a really slow grader with long writing questions at the end of each test.
Don't take him, he literally just talks about the most random stuff and barely uses a slideshow, with, if anything, 2 sentences on it, also scribbles stuff on the chalkboard?? I think there are like 4 or 6 online quizzes that are super easy, and he uses the material from that for the 2 exams. His lectures are pointless, and he uses polleverywhere
literally not hard at all. attendence is not mandatory, quizzes are all online. exams are just recycled questions from the quizzes and he gives study guides.
He's sweet! The class is a little difficult if you have a hard time paying attention in large lectures (the class was around 200-250 people), but the material was easy enough. 3 online quizzes, iirc. 2 in-person exams (midterm and a final). 2 single-space writing assignments. If you pay attention and do the recommended readings, you will be fine
this class requires a lot of work: he talks quickly and quietly, only posts the shell slides, you HAVE to go to classs bc he bases exam questions off what he says in class. Sample Q: "according to Dr. Perez/ According to the discussion we had in class" He requires a lot of readings and the textbook: read them it matters!! I wouldn't take him again
only grades are 4 essays, 4 mc quizzes, and a final presentation. not graded harshly. he's a nice guy and knows what he's talking about, but content could feel a bit repetitive at times. this might have been because i took the class that meets once a week for three hours so if you have a normal class you're probably fine.
Nice guy but very unorganized. We only met once a week but he wouldn't give us our hw until a day before (and it was a LOT). There was at least one question per test no one knew the answer to bc we never went over it
