Dr. Pham is a fantastic biology professor! I have taken him for BIOL190 and BIOL190L and he has made learning the concepts of biology and biotech very easy and fun. Never in my years taking science courses have I met a professor as caring and genuine as Dr. Pham. During his lectures and the laboratory work you will perform, it becomes clear that he is not there for you to memorize facts or endure long lectures: he wants you to learn, and have fun while doing so. Dr. Pham is probably one of my favorite professors! He is easy going and willing to help any students that need help. He also gives lots of extra credit opportunities which is a big plus. It's just overall a fun and fairly easy class that I recommend.

If you ever need to take any sort of science course, choose it with Dr. Pham! The only constructive feedback I would provide is that I wish he had a different approach to giving directions. Class is often divided into groups often with "group leaders" taking initiative. This does not always guarantee that their peers will get the right information.

Professor Pham really cares about his students, he helped me understand some more esoteric concepts in Biochem, and really wants us to succeed. He is always cheerful and ready to help students when we don't understand certain methods in the lab, which prepares us for labs in professional settings in the future.

Dr. Pham lectures are straight forward and easy to understand. All the quizzes were group quizzes and we had 2 tries each, so everyone would do well. The exams were not difficult and we were allowed one page of notes. Definitely recommend taking him!!!!!

Fall 22 is Dr. Pham's 1st time teaching microbio. Lecture is straightforward - 3 tests. Can use a "cheat sheet". Lab is a little chaotic at times - it is a lot of work, but Pham is an amazing human that really cares about student success. This is a 5-unit class, if you put in the effort and ask questions, you will do great. Take Dr. Pham for 229!

Dr. Pham is a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic professor. His lectures and exams/quizzes are straightforward and you are able to use a cheat sheet for exams. Grades assignments leniently and always is open to giving points back. Not strict with deadlines. Lab is a lot of work but not difficult.

He is very helpful in lab as well and takes his times to answer your questions.

Pre-med and nursing students: TAKE Dr. Pham! He wants you to be successful in this course. I'm taking this class and physiology w/Sanchez. Both classes are doable. Similar material for half of the semester. Lab can be a lot of work, but Dr. Pham is there to help. I love him as a teacher!! Wish he taught classes like Bio 211 or 177!! Dr. Pham Rocks!

For Lecture: 3 Lecture Exam + 1 Final Exam (you can use a small cheat sheet as reference); and 3 Lecture Quizzes (open notes). For Lab: Various small assignments and skills tests throughout the semester to help you with figuring out your unknown bacteria (worth lots of points) @ the end of the semester. It's a 5-unit class, but Dr. Pham is amazing!

Taking this class as a prereq for PA school, I agree with all of my classmates reviews. Dr. Pham is great! Take his class!! The lecture material for this class is similar to Bio 211 and 249. Lab is a lot of work but fun towards the end bc we apply all the techniques we learned throughout the semester to find out unknown bacteria. Have fun!

I really enjoyed Dr. Pham and his class. He was amazing and always going above and beyond for us. No lie. Make friends with your classmates - fair to say that all of us in his Fall 22 class became close and helped each other out for lab and lecture assignments. We all learned together and stressed over tests, quizzes, and our unknown. Fun class!

No textbook required. Lectures exams are straight from ppt. Lab skills are straightforward. Pay attention in lab so you learn how to do all the tests and understand the results for your unknown bacteria. Other than that, you should feel yourself to be very lucky to be in the presence of such a caring soul.

Science has never been my strength due to ADHD. So at the start of the semester, my anxiety was triggered after registering for microbiology. It was my last transfer requirement to graduate. But on the first day of class, all that fear melted away because Dr. Pham's teaching style intentionally accommodates students with ADHD. Fear not! Register!

This is a great class and much less stressful than some other nursing pre-requisites I have taken. I loved taking micro with him!! I truly felt like I was learning so much. It's a lot of information to take in, but he makes it easy to understand so it's not overwhelming. Happy SCC offers the biochem meant for premed (rather than the prenursing version). Dr Pham is a really good professor and his class is mostly group projects. His exams are fair and he doesn't try to trick you. This is not an easy class, nor an easy A, but if you try in this class, you should be ok. I either got an A or B.
