He is also a high school teacher so he is good and clear at teaching. I enjoyed his class and learned a lot. He is very willing to help any student.
He is an overall good teacher, very humorous, gives comic relief to class, however I also learned a lot.
He is an awesome math teacher and very easy to understand. He contours his methods to what we learned in high school and prior courses so that we better understand.
Mr. Swaim is a great teacher. He has great stories of when he was back in college and everyone can relate. He makes math a part of every day life!!

THIS MAN IS SO HOT. YOU WILL WANT TO GO TO CLASS EVERY CHANCE YOU GET EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT SCHEDULED.HE IS A GOOD TEACHER BUT GOES VERY FAST. TEST ARE FAIR.HE TELLS REALLY FUNNY STORIES WHICH WASTES TIME.THAT COULD BE A NEGATIVE TO IF YOU DON'T LEARN ENOUGHT FOR THE TEST CAUSE REGARDLESS IT IS COMING
Very good
I LOVE math, but when I took it w/ Victor, I hated it. He talks too much & he talks more about himself, than math. When you go to take the test, you know nothing on it, b/c he was too busy talkin about himself during class. Sure he has good stoires, but his stories aren't gonna get you a passing grade.
Good teacher. Take him.
I had always been ok with math, but in this mans class, he speeds through everything and then briefly jokes about the people who aren't understanding what he is teaching, if it wouldnt be Convienent for me to go to the class, i would drop his class...

Mr. Victor is a really nice guy, but thats not what this class is about. No one cares if he has funny stories. If the storeis were on the test yeah iwould pass. He moves very fast as if we have all learned it already, so if u arent good in math, dont take him
Professor Swaim is a very good teacher. He teaches things over and over again just in case someone in the class may not understand. He keeps his classroom interesting and it is almost impossible to fall asleep. He jokes around about everything which makes going to class not so bad. I would definitely recommend taking his class.

He's a great teacher. Very funny! Very HOTT! He is understanding and considerate. Very helpful, if you ask. He's just like a kid. Tell's great stories that keep you interested. He shows how the problem is done, then tells you how to compute it on the calculator. Make sure you have a TI-83.
O.K., I THOUGHT HE WAS HOT UNTIL HE OPENED HIS MOUTH. HE WAS VERY SELF CENTERED. HE TALKS ABOUT HIMSELF ALL THE TIME. HIS TESTS ARE VERY UNCLEAR. HATED THE CLASS, PERIOD. AVOID!!
Ladies, do yourself a favor and sign up for one of his classes! He's about the hottest thing on two legs! He tells hysterical stories and makes class fun! I recommend you do your homework, or you may get lost. His tests can get a bit tough, so you have to keep up with everything all through the course.
Was a good teacher, made class laid back with funny stories, had a great sense of humor, very very nice looking!!(can be a problem when trying to focus on the class)! He does teach very fast and does not give homewirk points or extra credit, if u need help u need to seek it, he will not come to you, but he is very nice when u have a question.

Good teacher overall. Keeps the class from getting too boring by breaking it up with stories from outside of class. Knows material pretty well but at times things are unclear. Overall a good choice though. Do your homework and you will get all the practice you need.
ok i don't see how anyone would think this guy is hott because he is totally NOT! and he doesn't teach he talks about his life the whole time!
He is very helpful to anyone who needs it and if you don't want to go see him there are SI's in the class with you. He keeps his class interesting. He also gives like 3 homework assignments for points which help with grades. I'm usually weak in math but in this class i'm doing very well. This class is basically a review from high school algebra.
his class is so fun, i'm taking him again for math 261 b/c he makes class intresting and the time go by fast. and yeah he is way cute!!!
he is a wonderful teacher he is very helpful. his test are easy if you study.... st-A
He is a great teacher, easy to learn everything. And he goes over what's on the test usually the day before, or atleast says what is expected. He also is willing to help if needed. I'm good at Math and got an A. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you want to pass you should attend just to learn the sections and get the notes. He is hilarious.
teaches fast so dont miss a class or u will be lost... FOREVER especially on probability chapters 5 and on
Very easy professor for a VERY HARD class. Don't miss class or you will get behind. Nice guy with a great personality.
Has a good sense of humor, tells alot of stories. Goes through material too fast and most can be done on calculator but he goes so fast you can't learn how to use the calculator for the problems. Found his tests to be very confusing.
Nice guy you'll enjoy the class bt you may fail it
The class is hard, however, he tries to make it as simple as possible! He is an awesome teacher! i really enjoyed his class and all his story... keep in mind that he was a high school coach at one point.....
Way funny...I loved all of his stories. He's really laid back. Test material is usually just like the problems he works on the board during class. He does give a lil homework for points. Do it because it's easy points. Do it also because the homework problems he gives are just like the ones on the test.
If he would you test you on his life I could've passed with flying colors! He's very friendly and funny and is very open to questions. He just goes through the material way too fast! I had to go home and teach myself a lot of the time because I couldn't keep up in class.
Will enjoy class but you may fail. If you struggle with math this is not your guy. He doesn't explain things well and only grades tests. He moves too fast. He will help outside of class and answer ?'s. Wants you to understand but isn't a good teacher. If you have to take him you can pass. Just take someone else if U can.Take David Busekist instead.
Took him a few semesters ago and hated him. I'm pretty good at math and I got a C in his class b/c he spends more time talking about his life and trying to act like Mr. Bigstuff then actually teaching. When he does teach he teaches kind of fast and his test are really confusing. Don't take him if you want to pass.

He does not teach well. Class is interesting because he tells stories the whole time. Unless you're a math whiz, don't take him.
Great teacher. He makes learning fun. Doesn't assign to much homework and is very helpful.
Mr. Swain is a very good instructor. The book goes into too much detail so he breaks the info down for you. He is always open for questions. He curves grades. Don't take his class lightly. Copy the example problems they are a big help. He lets you put formulas on index cards for tests and tells you not to write example problems on them but he doesn
Awesome teacher!! U have to study and come to class to keep up. I highly recommend him.
ITS THE BEST CLASS! GREAT TEACHER!!!
HE IS THE BEST MATH TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! If you want to pass math take him he actually teaches you the material and makes sure you know it!
He loves to joke alot. He doesn't care if you come to class or not but if you do and have an emergency LEAVE because he will shine the spot light on you. Loved the way he taght. His test are of exactly what he taught except maybe one and he doesn't really take off that many points if you got it wrong. GREAT GUY...Take him but do your homework and s
Great teacher very funny keeps the class interesting...He is very knowledgeable of the subject he teaches, he's not strict on attendance but if you miss you make get lost. I highly recommend his class but if you get offended easily too bad b/c he talks about real life stuff in statistics that college students should understand. <lovely>
This teacher is very self obsorbed. He gets a tude when you asks questions. He tries to seam as if he's going to make it easy, but he talks really fast and doesn't repeat much at all. If you are not good in math, I suggest you find another teacher. He will telll you that he's got it and that about 70% of his students fail! He is hot though!
HORRIBLE TEACHER! He is rude to students when they ask questions. He did not reply to my emails that I sent him. Tells stories about his life more than he teaches. He assumes everyone understands after going over something ONE time. Tells students things will not be on the test and then puts them on the test. Don't take him if you want to pass!
I think he is an awesome teacher. I understand everything clearly and if you are confused he WILL help if you ask but you have to ask or he will move on (he cant read minds). He does like to go off the subject, but i would much rather that then monotone for an hour and 15. He is hilarious and I would recommend him over and over again. :)
Best math teacher I ever had! Loved him.. Wish i could have him as a private tutor id sure let him teach me a few things :)) soo hott!
Vic has the best personality in the world awesome teacher, willing to help, tests are exactly what he says, super funny and interesting, best math teacher you could get!
Great teacher. I highly recommend him.
This guy is awesome, plus he is realllllllly nice to look at! He helps you understand before throwing the calculator in your face and his tests have what he says is going to be on there. I wouldnt mind taking him again, If I had any more maths i would schedule him, honestly! Hes pretty funny too so his class isnt so dry!
His test are hard, but if you study it's not too bad. You have to study. He does not assign much homework.
He's an okay teacher. He gives example problems from the book for you practice. That's basically where the tests come from. The book becomes your best friend because he doesn't really teach in class. He tells wierd stories instead so you might need to teach yourself. Doesn't reply to e-mails. I somewhat enjoyed class, but there could be better.
He spends a lot of the time talking about his life and random stories. Gives homework, but does not teach what's on the homework. He does go over it during class. Not a fly by easy A, unless you're a stats wiz. Do not take if you're not willing to work.
I can't believe this man's ratings are so high. He is a good person, don't get me wrong, but he can't teach! I sat in the class for weeks not understanding a thing he was saying but luckily I was able to teach it to myself the day before the test. Everyone I talk to in class complains about him too. He goes off topic and he isn't THAT good looking.
His stories keep class interesting. He goes over example problems during class and works all the homework problems on the board the next class period. The test material is exactlty what he says will be on there. As long as you pay attention, anyone, including a moron, could learn in his class.
While Prof. Swaim was helpful to me outside of class, I spent a lot of time having to teach the material to myself. He did go off subject during just about every class period, which is not great if you care about your grade and would rather spend the time getting what you paid for. Don't be fooled. He's not that great looking. Seen better days.
He does not require you to attend class but does take attendance and the class is very easy as long as you attend class and do the two or three problems he assigns per night.
learning how to do the stuff in class is really easy, especially when you are doing it with him on the board. But the test ask completely different stuff. The wording is totally different. He pretends to care if you need help but you can tell it actually annoys him. DON'T TAKE IF YOU STRUGGLE EVEN SLIGHTLY!!
The only was I passed his class was by studying my butt off everyday in the math lab. Me and another dude basically teamed up to teach each other everything. I barely made it out with a B which was pretty good since I'm terrible in Math. Good guy though and easy to get along with. Good Luck.
nothing done in class is on the test, if so it is all re-worded to where you cannot understand. however, he does allow u to have a notecard with all the formulas on it for the tests which helped me a lot.
This class is hard. The way he words questions on the test are tricky. he doesnt like to answer questions and when you do he usually responds with "c'mon you know that"...well obviously I dont I got D on the test. he is a cool guy and usually talks about whatever most of class but if you care about getting an A or B...i woudlnt recommend him.
Dr. Swaim is a crazy guy but he knows what he is talking about. I have always been good in math and I got out of his class with a B. Even though he only grades about 5 homework assignments, I would do all the work he suggests. He tells some interesting stories which makes the class a little more bearable.
He is very helpful in decoding that God-awful course compass **** that's been forced down our throats. The work is hard, but Mr.Swaim helps. He even uses a little comic relief here and there, it makes class less grueling, what with the constant barrage of algebraic formulas and expressions. His Hill-billy anecdotes are actually quite amusing.
Pretty cool teacher, and pretty easy too. The work isn't easy, but he works out every single test question in class, so go to class and you should be good!
He really know how to make learning Fu
Swaim is a really good teacher. It is the Math Compass Course that is horrible! If it wasn't for the online Math course, I would have stayed in his class since he is easy to understand, willing to help students, and is funny. SLU NEEDS TO GET RID OF COURSE COMPASS!
This guy would probably be a great person with which to drink beer; however, I don't know where he got his PhD. He couldn't teach his way out of a wet paper bag! I got a B in the class, but I didn't learn a thing from this guy! He's obsessed with himself, egotistical, and talks about his dogs all period long. Like we care!
Great guy but doesn't teach at the elementary stats level, assumes you know most of the stuff. If your great in math then he's your guy otherwise find someone else. You earn every point in this class and the test questions are very tricky. Good luck
He made a hard course enjoyable. He presents the material in between jokes and funny stories, so he kept my attention the whole time. I made an A, but I had to work hard for my grade, Class would have been better, but we had 2 students that thought they knew more than the teacher!
Mr. Swaim is HILARIOUS & a GREAT teacher. Math 155 is hard to sit through, and he makes it fun with all his jokes and funny stories. Don't get me wrong, he DOES teach. The material itself is hard, so you have to study but Mr.Swaim fully explains and even goes through the homework in course compass. You must go to class to understand the material.
HE IS AWESOME!!!! Had his class at 8 in the morning, i don't know about you but math is not on my mind that early. He makes the class very entertaining. He keeps everyone wake with different jokes, silly stories, and very weird comments. I strongly recommend him if you want to smile during math class.
He was not a good teacher, because he poorly explained the problems. I learned more about his opinion on cars, instead of algebra. Avoid him, get a helpful teacher.
He made class very interesting. Taught very clearly and went over all the problems on the computer; all quizzes, test and homeworks. Awesome dude!!!!!!!!
Too hard to understand, goes too fast, argues with class members, tells too many stories instead of teaching. Never grades homework. Tests are hard if you aren't sure of the math. It's a calculator class and you need to know how to use it and read it. He was a $700 mistake for me to choose. I have met others who feel the same way. I'll try another.
I think that if you attend class, this is a great teacher to take. He takes time to ask if everyone understands and goes out of his way to make sure you get it. And you can always schedule an appointment if you still don't get it. Plus, he makes stats pretty fun.
He's a good guy but not a great teacher. He teaches on a PHd level and kind of expects you to know it all already. It wouldn't be that bad except that every method he uses is not even close to the way the book has it, so if you dont get it in class the book is no help. Unless you're great at math find another teacher.
Great teacher. He's funny and makes class interesting. He'll throw you one or two curve balls on the tests but nothing too outrageous. He tells you exactly what he expects you to learn and how to do it. I was talking to him about another class I was having trouble with and he talked to my teacher for me, he cares and wants you to do well.
He is funny. Keeps your attention. Do the problems he gives for homework and pay attention when he goes over them and you will pass. He does not make it easy, but he shows you how to work it by hand and the calc. Great class.
He's not a difficult teacher- it's just a difficult subject. He tries to make it simple by doing tons of example problems in class, writing down every step even when he doesn't have to. Very willing to help students. Uses both formulas and calculator steps, which is awesome.
He is the best college professor I have ever had. I dislike Math and it is not one of my strongest but if you do the work, you will do great. He is the most helpful, kind teacher I have ever met! He is willing to help students who need extra help. He truly is the best teacher. He is so funny to so thAT HELPS. He actually makes math fun!
Hands down... The BEST Math teacher I have ever had! Very helpful. Very Kind. SUch a great person to have for a teacher. I got lucky to have been in in class! AWESOME TEACHER!!!!!
Funny and kind. Too smart. It's difficult to follow him. I really like him though. If you have "thin skin," just a heads up... he's a jokeSTER. (;
This guy was awesome. He keeps class interesting and funny. If you do what he says you will pass. I did the homework he assigned and did well. He does not grade or pick up much homework, so its up to you to get off your rear and do it.
This man is smart and funny. He was very helpful to the students during class and lab time. One of the best most personable teachers I have had.
This class is not easy at all. Trying to keep up with my homework and him working the problems out on board really got me through. He is helpful, especially outside of class.
Don't take him. He spends 75% of class talking about personal experiences. You basically have to copy the examples and figure it out on your own.
I would recommend this teacher to anyone. I never knew anything about statistics before, but he taught very well and made statistics easier for me to understand.
he is nice willing to work around stuff if you need to make something up. hes funny and talks about himself a lot. his test are pretty straight forward. make sure you know the material.
If you have a low self-esteem, do not take his class. He CONSTANTLY makes fun of his students, so don't ever leave early. He makes fun of students who ask questions. He rants on about dumb stories for about hald of the class. He may be a nice person, but he's an AWFUL teacher. And he says "See where I'm getting at?" a lot.
He was a really good teacher, I failed Math155 my freshman year and decided to retake it with him. He does get a little sidetracked sometimes but he makes the class enjoyable and not a bore to sit in. Does many examples in class, very helpful!
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! If you are not good at math do NOT take this guy. He is a total jerk and makes fun of people when they ask questions. He us just awful! He gives extra credit opportunities to one class but not another. He gets off track and wastes your time! I have never made a C in my life and I got a C in his class! DON'T TAKE HIM!!
He spends big part of class telling stories. it did make class interesting because I hate stats. His test are a little tricky but do plenty of examples and you will be ok. Sometimes I think that he tells stories that he should not tell at all. You have to have a sense of humor because sometimes he might use you to tell story. He does ok explaining
Dr. Swaim wasn't the worst professor I've ever had, but he wasn't the best. He talks a lot about stuff that is not relevant to stats, but he is a pretty funny guy. I managed to get an A because he replaced our lowest test grade with our Final Exam grade. Doesn't like to repeat himself, so take good notes the first time.
Online class so obviously only so much he can teach, but was very cocky and spent a lot of time talking about his personal life. Didn't give any extra credit and no extra assignments besides the online program.
He hates athletes. If you're an athlete who will miss his class do not take him, because he will not let you make up the quizzes or tests. Gave me a 79.4 because he "didn't notice any obvious effort" when I definitely worked my butt off... I do not recommend him at all.
Don't ask questions because he WILL make fun of you. Test questions are completely different from those worked in class, so it's difficult to prepare. Hard grader but gets tests handed back quickly. I wouldn't recommend taking him if you're looking for a good grade.
He make class interesting and funny. Taken this class before with other teachers, he is way better.
Enjoyed class. This guy is smart in stats. If he says its on the test, it is on the test. Listen and work the problems he assigns and you will pass.
Awesome guy. Teaches the material well. His stories during class are hilarious.
He is hilarious. One of the funniest professors I have ever had. Never a dry moment in his class.
This man knows his statistics!!!! Took him twice, great experience both times. Test will have a tricky question or two.
Pretty good teacher. explains things pretty well. Tests are hard though. MUST study and make sure you 100% know the material. he keeps class interesting with his little stories. Class always flies by. gives homeworks for extra grades. Downside-- makes you give a short speech at the end of the semester.
He tends to go off on tangents, which are funny and break up the class time, so you aren't just getting crammed with stats. However, he can be a little confusing, and goes fast. Read the book, do the extra problems, and homework and any sheets given, show up to class on time and write down everything. For tests, re-do homework and any sheets.
He's a tough teacher. I wouldn't recommend him to any one who struggles in math like me. He's cool personality wise, but teaching the material, he's very hard to follow. He gives no background info on symbolsclass lingo and expects you to just know it. He also enjoys calling students out and gets off topic often with stories and such. Good luck.
Just finished the final, it was the info he told us to study. Awesome stories, makes class bearable. I will tell my buds to take him.
This guy really knows his stuff and is very helpful, but the class is tough. The class grade is based on 5 small homework grades, 4 tests and a final. Test questions are extremely difficult and a little more advanced than they should be, but Prof. Swaim's easygoing attitude and funny stories really make the class worth going to.
Math has never been my strong suit, so i struggled in the class. I have never taken statistics before, so i found myself lost a few times. He uses clear examples in class, and allows a formula sheet for tests... with that being said... YOU SHOULD STILL REVIEW. It is a tough class, but he really does try to make it easier.
He is a good teacher, if you are good at math i struggle with math and tried very hard in this class. Helves very quickly, covers a lot of material, and puts tricky problems on the tests. Do not take him if you arent good at math!!! If math Is your thing, you will probably love him.
It's not Swaim that sucks, it's his subject. If you review homework problems and some of the textbook, you'll do decent on tests. Swaim really does care about his students, but Stats SUCKS. I'm not math-minded, so it was fairly difficult for me. But he tries to help his students.
He is ok. But I would not suggest for Statistics 241. He talks too much about other things in class and does not talk about math.
Hilarious. Class attendence is necessary or you will fall behind. Gives extra credit assignments. Easy going. Would take again.
Swaim was my favorite math teacher of any college class. He intentionally tries to make the class easy and passable for you. Class attendance is a must, as is diligent note taking.
Other than his over-the-top, overly-opinionated, off-topic stories and comments, his tests were the hardest college math tests I've taken thus far! Btw, he will tell you that you dont need the calculator to do the work for class but DO NOT SKIP ON THE CALCULATOR. Trust me. Ended up having to drop the class bcs his teaching was ALL OVER THE PLACE.
Dr. Swaim is very different. When you first get there he seems very cocky and rude but his jokes are pretty funny. He makes math tolerable. He is a pretty good teacher. Test come straight from the examples from the board and homework problmes. I reccomened just reworking them to get a good grade! If you study and review you will pass!
He is a very nice guy. He gets off topic a lot but if you pay attention and actually try, you will do fine.
Awful just awful
Great Teacher
Talks off subject a lot. Will not explain if you dont have a very very specific question. will give extra points to help you out but not many. material covered will be tested 1 or 2 class sessions after the section is complete. skips around in the book. test are not always as clear as you would expect.
He trails off topic in class often. He also shares his personal/political views though he claims he doesn't. But, as a stats teacher he's pretty straightforward. He'll help with your calculator if you need it. He assigned a paper & presentation the last weeks of class that I wasn't expecting.. His attractiveness grows on you..
When he assigns problems for you to do after the lecture, DO THEM. I didn't and I regretted it because I didn't know how to do the problems. Excluding the first test, to get to have a formula sheet for every test and you can use all of them on the final. Study. Study. Study.
He's pretty funny and is a smart guy but I still struggled in his statistics class. There was not enough opportunities for me to practice the material which made me suffer. There is not a lot of homework which is cool but again not a lot of material practice. Nice guy but would not take his math class again.
Hilarious guy. Hard class though for non-math related majors. He tries to teach it but I don't think math is something that is easily taught. I sat down and worked through the chapters, example problems, homeworks, etc. Before the exam I do a reread and rework, taking my time. He cares but maybe he could offer more assignments for points.
Professor Swaim wasn't terrible, but would not recommend if you can avoid it. He does teach, but has a different style to it. He spends about half the class telling jokes and stories, which can be funny but takes away from class time. Tests are never more than three pages, but multiple parts to each so it can get tough. Overall, an okay professor.
Talks too much about not math. Not a very good teacher. Funny and nice guy, but not a viable stats teacher
Victor Swaim is a funny guy but is a horrible stats teacher. I had horrible difficulty with this class. I never skipped but yet I had a C, studying no stop for his tests. I worked hard but yet I wasn't seeing the grade I needed nor wanted. He offers 9 assignments total before the final. No extra credit either. 5HW grades and 4 Tests.
Great teache. Made a boring class enjoyable with stories. Gave a take home test, that was awesome. Also, gives a formula sheet.
Dr. Swaim was a great teacher! He gives homework for practice and although I needed tutoring for this class, I'm really glad i had him as my teacher. He tells hilarious stories in class and it makes the time go by faster. deff recommend.
very funny/nice guy who makes math bearable. can spend too much time talking about football instead of teaching so we're better prepared. second time taking this course but i made a C. DO THE HOMEWORK AND GO TO CLASS. it's not too tough but you must take time to prepare. gives examples in class similar to test. overall not bad! very passable class
Funny guy but gets off of topic constantly! If you're not good in math, do not take him.
Although he is very funny at times, he spends more time telling jokes than teaching. He makes the material seem super easy, then makes the tests super hard. If you study really hard, you should do fine. If you do not show up to class, you will not pass. He writes his own formulas and skips around in the book, so attendance is important.
He's a funny guy but that doesn't make this class any easier. Hardest math class I have ever taken. He constantly picked on me the whole semester, but also helped me out on exams. Not a lot of homework but it is graded. I counted how many times he said "You see what I'm getting at?" and it came out to be 167 times in one semester.
Although he does talk about himself at times. As long as you pay attention in the class and ask questions if you dont understand, then you'll do fine. The math is easy to comprehend. He even allows for one page cheat sheet on test days so you can right down any formula or example you think you'll want to remember.
Straight forward stats class. This class is not too easy, and not too hard. Vic tries to break up the monotony with stories and facts hes recently seen, which I quite like and treat as a commercial break. Would take him again
Prof. Swaim is a very funny guy and will tell alot of stories in class. Tests are straight forward and he allows you to use a formula sheet. You should attend as many classes as you can if you and to get a good grade.
Best professor ive ever had. I couldn't of did my freshman year without him, hes the funniest guy I know and I looked forward to the class everyday. If you make a bad grade or forget about a homework its no big deal, he'll let you redo it or open the homework back up for online. The best tip is to ask questions because that's how you build a bond
Victor Swaim is an awesome person and teacher . He helps you through out the course and work on all practices test and homework problems with you . He answer all questions with out a complaint . He also goes off topic a little and tell the class one of his many funny-life stories just to liven us up again . I recommend him ! Do your best though!
This professor spends most of his time trying to "bro up" with his students. You will learn more about his personal life than math. He does not like to be asked questions. Very inappropriate in his professional behavior. Go to class prepared to spend 75% of the time watching him goof off and 25% of the time trying to follow minimal instruction time
He talks more about himself than the course. You have to work hard by yourself to get good grades.
Class periods are mostly spent listening to his stories, as many previously state here. He does cover the formulas. Which are not particularly needed for the class as you are using a scientific calculator. Entry level class that is turned into more than it is. Enjoy the dry, sarcastic humor, but certainly needed to be taught not entertained.
Only take him if you're already good at math. He quickly goes over problems because he assumes you already know how to do it. He tells great stories though, but don't take him if you suck at math.
Terrible teacher. Its as if he was your classic coach that got stuck with teaching a subject. He takes about 20-30 minutes trying to relate an outside story to a lesson in class. If anyone asks where a formula was derived from, he will respond with you dont need to know because its above your level. Easy class if you dont want to learn.
Second time taking Swaim, awesome teacher. Yeah, he tells stories, but he states that on the first day if you dont like stories then you need to find another teacher. I recommend him to all my buds.
Swaim is your coach-that-got-stuck-teaching-a-subject kind of teacher. He has a hard time explaining topics to some students. He spends 30 minutes of the class trying to tell a story that connects with the lesson. Finds a few students to mess around with and tease in class. The best way to study is to practice how to type into your calculator.
If you have a hard time concentrating in math class take Dr. Swaim! He breaks up class with stories here and there so your not bombarded with an hour and a half of hard material. Super down to earth. Makes difficult material easy to understand and creates a welcoming classroom environment. 10/10 would take again.
This class is my first one at 8am. If it wasn't for Swaim's personality making the regular math lecture not so boring and monotonous, I surely wouldn't have such a good grade. Pay attention and do your homework and you will do well. Be smart and make the cheat/formula sheet for your tests!
He is the worst teacher ever. He expects you to already know math and does not go into detail on how he worked out a problem. If you miss one class you are going to have a hard time catching up. I would not take again.
He was very funny, he made 8am stat class not so shabby with his stories. It broke up the monotony of lecture. I didnt care to much for his sarcasm though. However, when you ask him a question he will answer you, but hes not very good at explaining himself. Almost like you should know it already. Seems like a decent guy, just not my cup of tea.
Hes a good professor , talks a lot. He never cancels a class even if its a deadly storm outside. He tells a lot of stories, but you need those stories so your brain can rest. If you need help hell jokingly pick on you but its cool. Bc its really funny!
I loved Dr. Swaim! He was my favorite math professor. You do have to somewhat know math but for 241 it's basically all in the calculator. Really funny and tells stories to give students a break. Definitely recommend.
At first I did not like Mr. Swaim but towards the end of the semester he grew on me. Be prepared to be called out in class. He talks more about his personal life than math so it makes math harder to learn but overall he is a good professor.
Hes an awesome teacher. Id for sure take him again! Hes funny and always tells us jokes and plays around with us. Dont be late but he doesnt care if yoou are, you will still get to sign attendance. Tests are extremely easy but attendance is part of your grade and homework is very important!!
He is not a structured teacher. I could never focus in his class. He knows the information but cannot teach it to students. Hes nice but seems to have little respect for his students. I got As and Bs in my last math class but Im struggling to make Cs In his. He will go through 3 chapters in one day so you feel like you will never catch up.
I had Professor Swaim for MATH 241 this semester and I struggled a lot. He is a great person but is horrible when it comes to teaching. He goes way too fast in class. He assigns textbook work alot so make sure you always have it. He tells stories pretty much everyday. He's not really accessible outside of class and never answers emails.
If you are the type of person who can't handle sarcasm, I don't recommend taking Dr. Swaim. He talks a lot about his personal life and tells stories, but he does that when the story relates to the problem we are solving in class. He is a very cool teacher but his tests can be difficult. Be prepared to study and do a lot of homework problems.
Mr. Swaim isn't a bad teacher when it comes to actually teaching the math, but he strays away from the subject a lot during his lectures, which can be frustrating. If you like the idea of frequent breaks from actually doing the math then you'll like the class.
Swaim wasnt a bad teacher by any means. Works problems quickly and you have to keep yourself engaged. Calculator formulas MATTER! He lets you write down all formulas on a piece of loose leaf for his tests so thats a bonus. Very little homework
Math is hard in general. Dr. Vic tries his best to explain it and he makes the class do homework and he goes over it perfectly. On the tests he lets us write down the formulas to help us during the test. He does talk a lot but I guess it is because he wants to kill time.
DO NOT SKIP CLASS. He goes over half of the chapter in one lecture. He gives out five 10 point homeworks per chapter for accuracy. There are 5 tests (final) and he drops the lowest. He is a funny teacher and is helpful outside of the class too. I would recommend him. Everyone is different, it depends on how you learn it.
Hes a very funny teacher and tries his best to explain the lesson. He does go by the chapter pretty fast in one lecture meeting. His tests are sometimes tricky but he lets you bring a piece of paper with the formulas written down so that a bonus. He talks a lot but its pretty entertaining. He doesnt give out a lot of homework
This man talks too much. In one lecture he will go over the whole chapter. He doesnt explain the work well enough and he always picks on people during class. He talks about himself too much instead of Statistics. I wouldnt recommend him because his tests are also hard
He believes class time is social hour. I could barely keep up with note taking. He makes fun of students and doesn't explain anything well. He teases students. He doesn't give students a chance to answer or ask questions. He acts like what he is teaching the easiest thing in the world and whoever doesn't understand his lessons are dumb.
Pretty sure anyone that didnt give him a good reading just did not put the effort in. I am terrible at math and I literally passed with a B. Yes he picks on students and yes he likes to tell stories but he makes the class fun. literally takes notes and go talk to him he is so easy going and always willing to help or push back homework if u Need!
Swaim is a jokester get over it. Hes chill and will help u pass and learn the material 8/10 just because I hate math.
I took him for 151 and 241 he wants to help u pass. Take him hes funny and informative dont let the other comments fool you hes a good teacher.
I love Vick so much! I had him for Statistics last semester, and he is one of my favorite professors to date. He is a giant troll, so expect to be teased throughout the class (avoid if you're super sensitive), but he is so sweet. I still see him on campus from time to time and we still goof around. His exams are easy and he does not assign much hw.
Dr. Swaim is awesome! I am not a big fan of math, but he makes my 8am class entertaining! He is straightforward and helpful. He does not give much homework, but when he does, pay attention because it is likely going to be on the test. There are 4 tests, including the final exam, and a few homework assignments counted towards your grade. Study!
Dr. Victor Swaim is great! I was a little nervous about taking him just from reading other reviews about him, but he's super awesome! He's very straightforward & tells you exactly what's going to be on the test. He does assign homework nearly every class, but it's only a few problems. He's really funny too & always told us stories. I recommend.
Dr. Swaim was great! Taking stats online was much easier then in person. Take him he is a great professor.
he tries to keep class light hearted & tells a lot of stories & runs on no schedule. teaches out of the textbook. do the homeworks and practice problems bc they help a lot. he allows a formula sheet for every test. youll do fine with him if youre good at math. if you struggle with math, he may not explain things enough for you to understand as fast
He isnt a terrible professor. He talks way to much about stuff other than math. One day he told us a whole story about selling cars for the whole class. I ended up having to drop the class and retake it with a new professor. If you struggle in math DO NOT TAKE HIM! He rarely gives graded homework, but his grades are only the 4 test and a final.
He is a tough grader. He moves so fast, so if you don't understand, good luck! A lot of people dropped his class. I have a tutor, that's why I'm passing. Some of the answers he gives you from homework are wrong. Tests are difficult and tricky. He likes to joke and use people in class for examples. no bonus or extra credit, doesn't answer emails.
I am not great at anything math related if I would have tried a little harder I would have gotten a better grade. Tells a lot of stories. The test are not hard just do the HW and review it before the test. You need to bring your text book to every class. Only the first test is vocab and the rest of his test are written response no multiple choice.
This man was one of the worst professors I have ever had. He teaches like you are already supposed to know all of the material. He never responds to emails. And the majority of his class has nothing to do with statistics.
He taught our class the wrong information regarding continuous distributions. When I pointed it out him, he took points off of everyone's test for his mistake. He announces students' grades to the whole class. Makes remarks about 'how hot' certain professors are. Forgets when he gives extensions on tests. He is unqualified; seek training elsewhere.
I've never been someone who picks up math easily, but Professor Swaim's teaching style has changed that. For the first time, I actually enjoy math class and feel confident in the material after each class period. His test can be unconventional at times, but this is for the best. He also doesn't make his students feel dumb if they ask questions.
Do not take this man at all. He sucks. He is always going off topic about random stuff that no one cares about. He teaches something new every time you go to class, and he moves really fast. He also excepts us to know the math like we have a freaking degree in it. His communication sucks, too. If you are stuck with him, I wish you the best of luck.
He teaches us very well. He is the second stat teacher I took at Southeastern. Much better than other two. He does make you work for your grade. Follows textbook and goes ove r allhomework .
In my course, your grades included 3 test (which basically dictated your grade) and like 4 ten point hwks that didn't mean a whole lot (but were cool because they were the only form of class participation grade. He teaches for probably 45 percent of the class time and talks about anything else the rest of the time. Has no defined curriculum :/
Great guy all around, no doubt about it. He is very nice and will pick on you, but he is a good person. We would always go straight from the textbook during class, and he would go off-topic for a good amount of the class. Only a few grades go into the grade book all semester: 4 homework and 4 exams. Don't recommend if you have trouble focusing.
Dr. Swaim was a horrible professor, would take more time to talk about his mustangs than the math. Test were incredibly hard and most of the times had items that were never mentioned in class. Students sit in class without a mask and he says nothing about it. DO NOT take this professor if you value your grade.
I had to drop this class midway into the semester. He seems like a cool dude but his class just was not it. The only grades you have are his three test and a couple of homeworkâs. His tests cover so much material that he does not really go over.
MUST ATTEND CLASS. If you go to every class you can, he teaches you all the calc steps and each problem in a simple way. TAKE NOTES because he is fast and it will make sense later when you go back. Funny guy and makes stat less serious in difficulty.
I get that ppl give him a bad rap but he genuinely knows his stuff and is very forgiving. If you reason with him and be his friend he can be the best math teacher u ever have. play along, participate, go to class and take him seriously. You'll have a great time. Be sure to bring your textbook. Get a tutor if social interaction isn't your thing
He is so nice but I found it so hard to follow him. He goes off on tangents that made it hard for me to stay focused. I had to drop him and I'm taking the class online now and its much easier.
the homework he assigns truly helps. he goes over it in class and will answer questions. very willing to help his students. gives you your tests back after taking them, and answers any questions about it. a great professor, i EXTREMELY recommend!!
Dr. Swaim cares much more about telling stories than teaching. He is great if you want to learn about cars or gambling, but if you want to learn statistics take someone else. he does not do extra credit and does not give extra help. I asked if he could recommend a tutor for me and he said "just pay attention in class and you won't need one."
I love Professor Swaim as a person, he is hilarious. But, his class has no structure at all. No notes, you learn each lesson off of one practice problem then he assigns problems from the book for 'homework'. Before the test, there is no kind of review of what you have learned over the past few weeks. His class is difficult to manage.
LOVE vicky swaim. absolute alpha man. very funny guy and knows how to make you comfortable while also getting work done. he gets sidetracked a lot, but still manages to let everyone know the material on time. 100/10.
Statistics is an overall hard subject. To pass his class, make sure you take notes all the time. Some things he teaches differently than in the book, but it's actually much easier.
I HATED Dr. Swaim in the first week, but he ended up being one of my favorite professors. He is straight up with statistics and doesn't include a lot of the fluff. His course has a nice routine, just do the homework and you'll do great on the exams. He make connections with his students and tells a lot of funny stories!
Saved me from a Professor that would have kept me from graduating. Dr. Vic is great. Just keep your head up and have hope. He tells jokes that are so funny, you may pee your pants.
I don't hate Mr. Victor at all. He's a very smart guy and knows a lot about what he's teaching. the thing is for me, who has always struggled with math, he goes way too fast and does a poor job at explaining the steps to solve a problem. and if your a student who relies on hw and quizzes to pass then he is not for you. But he is a very funny guy
Just take the easier professors. There is barely any opportunity to improve your grades
he teaches like were in the 1970s. no online assignments in MyMathLab only book work that you won't know if your even doing it right until the next class. says extremely controversial things. tells stories instead of teaching. goes way to fast and doesn't explain in detail. only gives 4 tests and 3 homeworks so you have to make good test scores
WOULD NOT RECCOMEND The ONLY reason for me not recommending him is because he goes off topic SOOO MUCH for like 30 mins and by this point, you forgot the math you just did. He also doesn't do reviews or anything of the sort. He will yap for 30 mins about absolutely nothing. He talks fast and doesn't explain the information. I'm saving you.
He isn't a hard professor but he also isn't really easy. He teaches fast and doesn't really give you time to grasp the idea of the math. He tells a lot of stories and gets off topic REALLY easily but he is a funny guy. Always cracking jokes. He lets you have a cheat sheet on all of your exams which helps out GREATLY. 4 exams and 4 homeworks total.
The content itself isn't too difficult and he lets you have a cheat sheet for every test, but he only goes over things once and that is it. He also really enjoys to tell life stories to his captive audience and will yap for 30 minutes about a topic completely unrelated to what you are learning.
He is a good guy and a good teacher. Something he does, is that he will only teach what is on the test and what is important. He will avoid teaching any of the "Fluff". Stuff that you will not use or see in his class. He does go off topic and talk about random things at least once a class. 5 homeworks, 3 tests and a final.
Vic Swaim was definitely one of the best experiences I had while at SLU. He explained geometry and polynomials to me in a way that I still am able to recall the information. He is thorough, can easily convey important information and always seemed (and, in my opinion, behaved in such a manner) like a professor who really cared about his students
Professor Swaim's class can be hit-or-miss, but with the help of resources like unstuck AI, you can stay on track. His stories are entertaining, but be prepared to stay focused to grasp the material.
Dr. Swaim does not take feedback from students. I personally found him rude and unreliable. Do not expect him to explain things in depth.
There are only a few homework so exams are important to do well on. Statistics is a heavy calculator course. He prefers things to be done by hand. He says he does not talk about math the whole time so we do not get bored. So if he is off-topic it seems just to be because he wants to make us laugh.
He is a very good professor! This class is relatively difficult so I suggest going to tutoring to keep on top of things. He gives homework but only some are graded and these help you study for the exams. He allows us to bring our own formula sheet with calculator steps which is really helpful. stay on top of things.
ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. 85-90% of class is him talking about random things. The only reason im passing is because I have a tutor and he has to reteach me everything Dr. Swaim "taught". Ask him a question in class? rather not because he is straight-up rude and calls you out for not understanding
theres 3 test and a final. he lets you bring a cheat sheet every test which helps a lot. he is very old school and doesnt post things on canvas so if you want to do good, show up to class. he does get off topic a lot tho. other than that he is a cool guy and the class really is not hard. take notes, do the practice problems and u should be fine
He is a very understanding professor. This class itself isn't easy, you HAVE to study and I suggest tutoring. He allows us to have a formula sheet for the test which is extremely helpful. Show up to class, take notes, do all practice problems/ homeworks and you should do good.
Although Dr. Swaim is funny and cool, his class is tough. Your whole grade consists of four tests, the final, and a few homework assignments that are only 10 points a piece. There was no extra credit. I wouldn't recommend taking him if you aren't great at math.
I would not recommend taking him if you cannot go back and teach yourself everything. Only three test, a final and only 5 homework sheets that he didn't grade for accuracy. He assigns examples only from the book. You think he would change his teaching style when majority of his classes are failing. HE TALKS 80% ABOUT NONSENSE so get a tutor ahead.
Not clear on how grading is done. Would never recommend him to anyone.
He's really funny, and he makes class fun. However, I showed up to class every day, wrote down everything he wrote, and practiced the problems, but the tests were quite different from the practice problems and notes. Your grade relies on the tests, and the homework grades he puts in don't help much
If you are not a good test taker & depend on assignments to help you pass then Victor is NOT the teacher for you. He grades very hard. He gave 3 test, a final and 5 hw assignments that were graded. We can use a cheat sheet on test. I feel that he cares more about telling stories than teaching.
Dr Swaim was overall a good professor. He taught us what we needed to know and didnt provide too much detail that would confuse us. He is very straightforward and helpful if you ask. Me personally I wouldnt take him again because I don't learn the way he teaches, but I would recommend him if you are smart enough to teach yourself at home.
Hilarious guy but not a good teacher. You are going to have to teach yourself the material from scratch if you want to do well.
Cares about telling stories rather than teaching.
One of my favorite professors at SLU. He's funny and teaches realistically. Try to make it to all of the classes because he assigns group work and gives points if you're there. Also assigns homework, but it is more for practice than a grade.
Math is differently not my strong suit bur Dr.Swaim keeps class light and fun. He does tell stories, but its just to give brain breaks. He does a lot of group work which is super beneficial. He gives some homework for grades do it!!!!!! If he sees that you try he will give you full credit for it. His test are just like lecture problems.
