If you are intelligent, this guy is the reason you came to college. Has taught me so much about books and concepts I thought I could never understand. Definately look into taking a class with him, or 3.

Gets on tangents very easily, almost always off topic. Prefers brown-nosers. Funny at first, but becomes tiresome very quickly.

My favorite teacher at York. Easy to understand and good at explaining stuff. Also very kind and helpful. Don't leave York w/o taking at least one of his classes!!!!!

Everyone should take this man! Class is a lot of fun and easy..He is an easy grader and just wants to have fun...lots of discussion....everyone can participate and get an A!

Love this class! Makes you think on a deep level. He is so funny. His "tangents" are to help you relate the study to everyday life. A little unpredictable, but I would surely take another of his classes. Smartest man I've ever met!

I LOVE this class... not because of the subject matter (kinda boring) but because of Taylor's wit and hysterical sense of humor! He's an awesome professor and I will defintely try to take him again.

this is my second class with Taylor, and i am glad i took it. i feel i have learned alot from the class so far, and the class (though dry sometimes) is rewarding.

Very easily side-tracked. Humourous occasionally, but not enough to make the pain of this class stop. Don't bother reading because he reads to the class like it's full of pre-schoolers. (Insulting to say the least.)

Regading the previous comment, you obviously do not understand his sense of humor. Maybe as you mature, you will appriciate him more! And he teaches a lot of classes, it is difficult for any prof to learn everyones name!

very good teacher. Likes to ramble about himself alot. Also, I got the impression that he doesn't like to hear students speak because he thinks their stupid. Maybe he's right. But anyway, its worth only hearing him lecture.

Good discussion class. Too easy as a professor/grader. I think he should call on students who don't participate in class. Content of class (assignments + tests) need to be harder. In general he's a pleasant man and it's a pleasant class.

dr. taylor is hilarious. definitely take him for criticism & theory if you can; makes a required class worth taking. he really likes this website and whenever he tells a story he says now we can all go and write on it that he's autobiographical.

Very nice and understanding teacher. I missed a lot of classes but he was understanding that I work late at night. Very interesting to listen to when I do attend class. Fairly good test if you study. Great person to know. I would take his class again!

Good teacher. I never went to class and got a B. He grades kinda hard on test but makes up for it with all the extra credit he gives. Class is interesting if you like to think. I had fun.

VT ROCKS! I don't know how any of you could say anything bad about him. He is defenitly NOT full of himself, esp compared to some other faculty. He knows his stuff, and he's genuinely a nice person, as well as hilarious to talk to! He's tight!

i'd take anything with taylor. he could have a class where he just stood in the front of the room and farted for an hour and i would pay york college good money to take it. but seriously. he's very cool, very intelligent, an understanding grader. he's great. highly recommended

excellent prof. provides class with extremely helpful visual aids. his arrows are particularly stunning, and are straight or curvy and pointed or not, corresponding to the point they convey. taking this class shows you that everything is so kafkaesque!!!

The most intellectually sound, humored linguist, and interesting professor out there. His wit is unparalleled and he maintains relevance with pop culture and contemporary literature/philosophy. His prophetic message against the oppressive institution is matched only by his concern for the individual. There aren't enough Dr. T's in the world.

Dr. Taylor is an incredible teacher and an intellectual scholar. He always explained the material clearly and thoroughly and had very entertaining random stories. His tests are fair, and he has very reasonable standards and expectations. You will always know exactly what he expects, and therefore should be able to give him just that.

i do not understand why everyone likes this professor so much. he is quite possibly the most arrogant professor i have ever had. his class is easy enough but almost unbearable due to his annoying personality. the one perk is that you can miss as many classes as you want and he doesn't really care. when i had him he also cancelled several times.

AMAZING PROFESSOR. He is very interesting and really knows his stuff. If you like philosophy, its a really interesting class. TAKE NOTES, TESTS ARE STRAIGHT OUT OF THEM!

He's a good teacher, you just have to be interested in what he teaches. Most of the class is just lecture. There are only 4 tests and they aren't too bad as long as you pay attention. Make sure to do thinking journals or else they pile up in the end. Only bad this is that he never responds to emails.

I think he's a good teacher and very nice. He's even kinda cute. I liked him and would highly recommend him. There are 3 exams, a few response papers and a paper at the end. It's not that bad... just show up and READ!

good laid back professor, i ended up actually liking a lot of the stuff we read & he made the class interesting by telling stories. 1 in class test, 2 take home tests, and a final take home test. he mentions this site about once a week in class, its pretty funny.

Dr. Taylor definitely knows the material. He'll try to scare you on the first day by making you read a text that is very hard to understand. However, he will then spend over a week discussing the text and helping you understand its meaning. The exams are fairly simple, and he's an easy grader. But prepare yourself for a large (7-9 page) final.

Taylor brings a bit of philosophical wisdom to every class, but is not in the least bit stuck-up. Lectures are rife with fascinating anecdotes that always tie in to the subject at hand, and help make topics more easily digestible. A real sweetheart when it comes to grading, he likes to see students THINK about the material. One of YCP's finest.

Randomness in every class. He tries to get everyone involved in the discussion and trys to keep the mood light. It depends on how large your class is and who the students are. Pulls philosphy into many discussions. Make sure you understand the objective of every paper and ask questions. Says "right" a lot!

Took several classes w/ Taylor years ago, and coming across this site, he's one of the only profs at YCP memorable enough to check on. I remember feeling challenged, amused, nurtured, never coddled, with an easygoing class atmosphere that encouraged free thought. Taylor's the real deal, a real person and real intellect.

Smart guy, with an amusing, well-done, sense of humor. Often likes to fly by the seat of his pants in regard to preparation. At his best when students actively engage him during class; zombie students tend to suck the enthusiasm out of him. HATED his choice of a textbook; Castle often resisted condescending to the reader's level in his analyses

He was a little arrogant at times, but always knew his facts. I did notice that he uses the word "right" a lot from the very first day. It was distracting as I kept waiting for the "right" to end the sentence. If you can deal with lots of reading/writing then you'll love this class. Overall, I'd recommend the professor, but not a minimester.

Taylor is possibly one of the most intelligent people I have ever met. He's very clear and if you don't understand something, he will work with you. While your attendance will not directly affect your grade, you will fall behind quickly if you miss his classes. Highly recommended.

Students must show up to class and engage. "Zombie" students only frustrate him and make the class more boring. Textbook is EXTREMELY verbose and I found it overall useless in terms of theory and criticism, but you have to read to do well.

Awesome guy, hilarious when he talks about his past professors. He can be a bit intimidating because he practically knows everything about Lit. Theory and has lunch with Zizek. Still, when you're confused, he explains stuff pretty well and he only makes you feel like an idiot if you tell him you hate non-rhyming poetry.

Class wasn't that bad. I enjoyed attending it. Be sure to keep up with thinking journal. Grading system is great. Classes usually involved group discussion. Grades fairly.

The only philosophy prof who could teach grad students at Harvard, Stanford etc. Brilliant. That being said he's not for everybody, if you're not into abstraction you'll be bored.

Never thought I would have liked this class as much as I did. Absolutely AWESOME professor- definitely tries to relate to your major as much as possible, even if you're not majoring in PHL. Hillarious, yet thought provoking conversations. No exams- only in-class essays and take-home essays. Super easy if you pay attention in class & take good notes

Awesome guy! I recommend him to everyone and anyone. There were only 3 tests, but it was in essay format and he graded really easy. Im rearranging my schedule in order to have him again to complete ADR 1. He talks to students like we're his friends, very down to earth.

Very boring lectures, but only a few test, if you grind it out it pretty much and easy class just study and stay awake, not a lot of busy work so don't forget about the class because if you don't study you will fail but if you take the time to study it is pretty easy

Great man, great mind, great passion for his field. Please do everyone a favor and actively participate in his class - you will get into great conversations and learn a lot! Dr. Taylor was also my advisor, and he was wonderful at it.

I love Victor Taylor. He is a great teacher. He knows so much about philosophy, and literature. He is well versed in all areas of literary criticism. Taylor has a great sense of humor. He really works to help students out, he is even trying to help students get the curriculum changed so that it offers more variety.

Brilliant, knowledgeable, clearly states what you must do to succeed in the class, and overall he makes philosophy interesting. Participate in class discussions and it makes class even better. He actually cares about his students and their success. I'd highly recommend him for anyone.

Very interested in educating his students&incredibly knowledgeable. Clearly understands the difficult concepts he is teaching but not good at articulating them to students-as a point of comparison, Dr. Kraft was great at making complex concepts understandable. I found his humor condescending & juvenile, but most people like him/find him witty

I really enjoyed Taylor's class! He's a great guy that clearly knows a lot about the topic. He's totally willing to help you out if you go to his office hours or arrange an appointment. Would recommend taking his classes!

VicTay is an awesome professor! Had for philosophy, very funny, intellectual, intriguing. Class participation required during discussion, easy on note taking. Book required. No HW but there is a thinking journal which I recommend keeping up on. Tests are easy but challenging. Highly recommend!

Professor Taylor made Intro to Philosophy interesting. I found his tests easy if you take notes and study. I did not buy the book, I found it for free online. It is the 5th edition instead of the 6th but it is almost word for word the same. He expects people to participate in the class. He is funny and well informed in philosophy. I liked him.

Taylor was an awesome teacher for this class. His lectures could get boring at times but made up for it with interesting stories and easy material. Tests are easy enough as long as you study what we talked about in class. GO TO CLASS every unexcused absence was 1 point off you final grade and it is only a 100 point class. Would take again.

Dr. Taylor's lectures are somewhat boring at times. He is an easy grader as long as you provide support to the stance your taking. At the end of the semester you're to turn in a daily writing assignments. Don't put them off until the end. Easy 4.0

Wouldn't take again

This is my first experience with this professor and it's not a great impression. Dr. Taylor, to his credit, does try to keep things interesting in his lectures, but it's only lecturing and the subject is not that interesting. Then there is the issue of Moodle. He doesn't use it for anything. Check your email often and find a way to save it all.
