Small lecture setting (12 of us) was perfect. Dr. Viser came prepared every class with the most interesting lectures about communication activism. Really knows his stuff as he's worked professionally in comm. Learned a heck of a lot - especially a larger vocabulary (better bring a dictionary!). Handsomecutefun, the best prof I've had at TAMUG.
Super smart prof. Big words sometimes, but it's to secretly make us better speakers. Loved class, provacative guy (sexy eyes) you'd like to have a few beers with. Would definitely take him again.
Victor Viser is definitely one of the most interesting people I have met. It is not a burden to go to this class because his lectures are proactive and are extremely interesting. I would highly recommend him as a professor because he knows what he is talking about and will expand your knowledge.
International Communication -- the prof is so up-to-date in his research and he brings it into the teaching. Fascinating content and Dr. V delivers it with energy. He cares that we care, and that's so rare in a prof. Difficulty only in that he leaves the assignments moderately open to us to interpret. Loved this class and loved Dr. V!!
Took public speaking, good teacher and coursework was clear. Class and work was interesting and never too difficult.
Well, Dr. V is - and there's no way else to say it - a hot teacher. This just gets stoked up in a class like his History of Rock and Roll. We learned so much in this class that I had no clue existed. Wonderful teach who makes us rise to his level. Very bright and knowledgeable on many subjects. Keep hair longish. And, those eyes - all too much.
You can tell he loves his job and teaching and always has a smile on his face. It was a very easy class with only participation points and a few speeches.
Dr. Viser taught us how to think critically and how to produce written work for projects - this to make us better and engaged citizens. I've able to get lots of job offers using the folio materials made for the class members. You won't find a better and more student-centered professor on the Texas A&M University at Galveston campus. Find him!
Dr. Viser is a gem. His intelligence level must be Mensa but he doesn't make you feel stupid in conversation. Dr. Viser has many talents but being a great prof is his strongest. If you have spare time, stop by his office and chat. I would take him again if I could.
Super teacher. So interesting to listen to that its hard to take notes at the same time (yes, one of those kind of teachers). He makes sure we all get involved in class discussions. He has the habit of calling for your opinion on the topic out of the blue. No exams - just papers and presentations. Even those are challenging, and we learned so much!
Had Viser for International Comm in Fall 2017. Really passionate about the subject, & teaching the subject. Demands much critical thinking, and in turn he never holds back the provocative or controversial. Treats us like adults, not "kid" students that some profs just can't stop doing. Taking his Activism & Comm class in Spring. Great & fair prof.
For class, there were about 14 of us, and we sit around a conference table and just discuss the ways activists use mass comm to achieve their goals. LOTS of other major cases in mass comm practice & theory. Assignment essays are challenging, and I LOVE THE CLASS. And Viser's so brilliant (and he's hot as hot can be!!). Cool class, well worth it.
Nice and smart teacher. Builds a confidence for public speaking with the students in the class. Knowledgeable, grades very fairly. Worked with me outside of class on my prepping for job interviews. Would take him again.
One of the most passionate professors I know. He has more presentations than lectures to help each class depending on their individual struggles (while following curriculum). If you want an A, you will need to put in a some hours for speech preparation each (there are 4 speeches, 1 being impromptu). If you follow his rubrics you should make a B.
I'm a fourth year engineering major, but Dr. Viser's History of Rock course was the best course I had ever taken in college. Most engaging, most informative, most interesting, more skilled professor. Taught me so much more than rock history. Way too many pluses to mention You've GOT to take History of Rock with Dr. Viser. He's a challenging prof.
Best professor teaching the best class at TAMUG. Large class for campus and he uses very cool audio and visuals that go along with his dynamic lectures. Entertaining but learning so much more. History of Rock is really is HIS subject. Tests are fair and push my thinking limit to the brink. Only wish I could take it again with him. Dr. V Rocks!
Not too hard of a grader. You will have 4 speeches: Informative, Impromptu, Persuasive, and a Group Speech. Dr. Viser is pretty easy with his grading on the speeches so if you completely botch the speech he will not give you a failing grade. Beware of speech deadlines because they will sneak up on you.
Professor Viser is one of the greatest professors I have ever had, yet "greatness" is never a word I would use to associate with his class. If you are looking for an easy A, clear off lad as this is not the course for that. If you possess superb natural speaking ability, congrats, you will thrive. If you do not, you will get an 82. Avoid class.
Excellent class. Learned so much that is going to be important for me to get a job, and ended up with material for my resume portfolio. We even learned how to build our own resume website. Funny prof, kept us all engaged in his lectures. A challenging class, but not a hard class I would say. Looking forward to taking his History of Rock class.
He is a great teacher and a very nice person however he talks a lot about random things during lectures and grades speeches really hard. He is the only communications teacher so you would have to take him, it is not an easy A but if you put in the work you will succeed. He notices if you distract others during his long lectures.
He is a tougher grader with speeches especially at the beginning. His lectures can be confusing at time because he gets on tangents.
Do the work, pass the class easily with a A or B. Makes sure we stay engaged in class with interesting lectures. Viser wants to make sure we get our money's worth and actually learn communication. The lectures are the best part, and the group projects are kind of difficult when we have to work with others. Looking forward to taking him again.
Great class. Graduating in May and his History of Rock was the best course I had at A&M. More challenging than I thought it would be. Made a B and was happy I got that. Learned alot. Cool teacher. He is definitely a must-take if you can get in the class.
Dr. Viser is fair. Although he follows by the rules when it comes to grading, he is flexible in extenuating circumstances. His course layout is great, and I guarantee youll come out of his class with better speech techniques and confidence. Much like the layout, lectures are organized well and have entertaining aspects that engage the class.
Remember the word "hegemony"! Great lecturer. If you improve every time you give a speech, participate in discussions, and at least ACT like you want be there, you will pass. Cares about helping you improve, stay after class sometimes and just have a productive discussion! You will expand your vocabulary in this class.
Prof. Viser has alot to say and alot to teach you, if you genuanly want to be better at public speaking he's you guy. All he wants to see from you is that you improve as the semester goes on. Your grade will come close to an A but not quite, he is the desiding factor if you talk to him afer class and really grow he'll give you an A.
Our Public Speaking course switched mid-semester to online during the pandemic. Viser didn't miss a beat & proved to be an online teaching master. No written tests, just speech projects. Super cool lectures. When Black Lives Matter protests where going on, he incorporated video of interesting protest speeches into class the very next day. Take him.
The most interesting lectures of any teacher I've had at TAMUG. Makes great effort to bring new info into the class, and allows us to discuss it at length. Never bored in his class -- super cool lectures and with pretty funny stuff thrown in here and there. Projects and speeches are easy if you stay ahead and prepare for them. Would take him again.
His enjoyment of being a professor makes the class enjoyable.
Had Viser for COMM 205. Excellent teacher. Really inspired me to be a better speaker and showed me how to do that. Emphasizes the importance of correct speaking in job interviews. No tests or quizzes, just speeches that we've weeks to work on before we deliver them. Would take him again. He's supposed to be teaching History of Rock soon. I'm in.
Great teacher. Brings in up-to-date materials to discuss in his comm class. Interesting lectures, especially because he brings everyone into the discussions. Reading required, but that really helps get the better grades and I ended up with an easy A by just keeping up with the readings.
By far one of the best professors ever! I wake up looking forward to this class. Super cool guy, always engages with students and creates the environment more lively. There is a lot to learn from him, good lectures that are straight to the point. He makes learning fun. Class is not difficult at all, show up to class and just put in the effort.
Had Professor Viser for History of Rock - fantastic class (take it from him). Then took his International Communication course - another fantastic course. His lectures are really interesting and we don't just sit there - he involves us in the discussions all of the time. Mostly papers and a small two-person group presentation. Remember "Hegemony".
Interesting lectures. Not too many assignments and no written exams. Mostly just speeches and a group project. Follow the syllabus, do the assignments, and its an easy class. Probably the most interesting professor on the campus. Would take again.
Dr. Visor is so cool. He's super smart -- a brainiac that doesn't act like one. His lectures are pretty deep, but every one he throws in something funny to break it up. Never reads from a book or powerpoint, just knows his stuff. Visor lets us talk & express our opinions. He doesn't mind if we disagree with him. IMO he's sooo cute with nice eyes.
Overall a really good professor, makes the lectures interesting. 90% of grade is speeches, no quizzes or tests, and the other 10% is class participation, so go to class.
Public Speaking from Dr. Viser. Excellent class. Every lecture was interesting, so it was a class I looked forward to going to. Learned a lot on speaking and can say I'm 100% better at it now than at the start of the semester. Not a typical speech class. Dr. V teaches a wide range of things other than just standing up and making speeches. Cool.
Professor Viser wants everyone to learn how to communicate effectively. One of the best profs I've had, and my friends say the same thing. We know his History of Rock course is one of the best classes on campus, but he doesn't teach it very often. Wish they would let him do it more often. Super handsome, smart, and helpful. I'd take him again.
He is accessible outside class for whatever you need - doesn't even have to be about class, he'll discuss anything with you. Likes to make sure you're getting the speech skills right. We had three speeches & two group projects. Sometimes he'll hold class outside on nice days to lecture. Relaxed, super smart, & funny. A real college prof. Take him.
Great semester. Second course with Dr. V, wish he had others I could take. Very engaged teaching style, super bright and never boring. No written exams or multiple choice tests. Just speeches including a group project. Learned a lot. One of the best TAMUG professors.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT AN A. Unless you're try-harding his class, good luck at even getting an A-. I've only seen around 3 As in his class that was given out on individual presentations, this is not an easy work-load class and for a communications class, it's way too much. He's good at lecturing though and his class is very interesting.
Dr. Viser has been one of my favorite professors so far. Lectures really draw you in, and he is overall a very interesting person. Take note of pointers he gives you and show interest in what he is talking about. Wiling to talk about anything; dedicate some time to getting to know him and allow him to put a face to a name. Great prof!
A professor who really cares about us. Learned much about communication techniques I can actually use. Not a hard class at all (easy B, slightly harder A) if you take notes and use them - he tells us the key points we need to know in the lectures. Interesting guy, likes class discussions. Would like to take him again.
Do not take this class for an easy grade if you don't want to work. The first week you have a project due. No phone or laptops allowed whatsoever. He's really passionate about his class and spends the whole class lecturing.
Class was decent. There were 4 (two individual and two group) speeches and he grades pretty easily. As long as you did your research and knew your topic.
Victor Visor is absolutely the best professor I have had. I was dreading having to take a coms course as a stem major, but it became my favorite class. I did not miss a single lecture. He is so invested in student success and promotes healthy discussion and growth. I sing his praises to anyone I know. I would HIGHLY recommend this course.
Easily one of the best professors at TAMUG. I learned a lot about communication that I can actually use. The course was fairly easy as long as I kept up with assignments - just speeches, easy A or B. He likes to challenge us and makes me think about things I just don't get in any other course. Great discussions. I liked his class a lot.
Interesting professor. He's WAY smart, funny, and IMHO he's sort of sexy. Lectures cover everything you need to do good. Don't need to read the free book. Super cool: In two great Friday classes about a month apart he actually put the lecture away and we spent the whole class time outside just talking about interesting stuff going on in the world.
Super nice guy. Grades fair and gives you feedback on each speech so you can make the next one better. Those do that do better in the class on average. Very smart and interesting lectures -- never bored in class. Keep up with your assignments and be engaged in class to succeed. I learned a lot and am a better speaker. Can't wait to take him again!
Viser really cares that we learn communication. I learned a lot I can use to get a job. Lectures mostly, and there's a free book. Grades are pretty reflective of the amount of work you put into the assignments. My roommate was in the same class, and she and I both got A's, but we worked for it. Viser's class has been by far my favorite here.
He's a very meticulous guy about what he says in order to not be very revealing of himself. Definitely knows what he is talking about when speaking in lectures. Viser doesn't care about what you present, he grades you based on if you remember and use the tactics we learn in class. Solid deliveries and good flow of information is the key to an A.
He wants us to succeed in being better communicators. Read the syllabus. It's clear with the assignments - a total of four speeches and participation in discussions. Easy class as long as you apply the techniques in your speeches. His lectures are always very interesting. I really wish he offered more courses at TAMUG, I would take him again.
Visor is a challenging prof, but challenging in a very good way. He's into making shy students become confident, public speakers. Grades are hard initially, then get better as you learn more about speaking. He's an absolutly great professor - I'd take him again without a second thought. Ask him about his mountain biking. Loves to talk about it.
Awesome Professor! Really cares and takes the time to get to know each individual student in his class. But don't take his class if you are seeking to get an A for a GPA boost. He rarely gives anyone in his class an A, around 2-5 students out of 30 get an A. So just be warned, if you think this class is a GPA boost it's not...
Great class, learned a lot. Easy workload and easy grades by just getting the speeches and outlines made on time. No exams. Interesting lectures. Viser's one of the best profs on the campus.
Clearly, Visor wants us to greatly improve our capabilities to communicate with skill. This is what his lectures and grading are about. Take the feedback from each assignment and use it to improve the next one. You'll hear the term "continuous improvement" a lot. Super smart guy, and easy on the eyes. Take as many courses as you can from Visor.
Excellent teacher. Class requirements were clear and assignments were fairly easy to do. He spends time at the start going over the mechanics of speaking so we know what's expected. Sometimes goes off on brief tangents on topics that are very interesting tho. He knows a lot of stuff and also tries to give us a better vocab. I highly recommend him.
Don't get me wrong, Professor Viser is cool, but how difficult was this class? DO NOT TAKE IT IF YOU WANT AN A. Only 3 people walked out with an A in the fall of his class making one nearly impossible! He likes it when you use the vocabulary words he sometimes says in class and will like you if you reference other students' presentations
Dr. Viser was incredible as both a professor and person to talk to outside of class. Extremely intelligent and fun to be around. He is not a tough grader but extremely honest. I agree with every grade I got, regardless of how hard I worked. Get to know him, ask intelligent questions, and you will have a great semester in his course.
One of the best TAMUG professors (maybe top 3) and most interesting with his lectures. This was my second course with him and I would take another if I could. Just following the syllabus and paying attention in lectures is the best formula for his classes. Dr. Viser is serious about communication and I learned so much. Excellent teacher who cares.
Great professor. Great course, very glad I took it with him and would take another one with him. Super smart and gives interesting lectures that are never boring. Take notes and apply the techniques.
He will help you as much as he can for you to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom. Although he does seem to put people on the spot by giving constructive criticism in front of the whole class, he genuinely just wants to remind you what to do differently in future presentations by giving great feedback. Overall, great professor!
I took his History of Rock course 3 years ago and have since graduated. Looking back now, my HOR course with Viser was probably the best course I took. The HOR course still resonates with me. The things I learned in that course helped me create a great music collection. I'll still fondly remember both HOR and Dr. Viser's lectures 20 years from now.
Dr. V is the funniest prof I have at TAMUG, His sharpest wit is always tied to deeper things in lecture. He's a comm prof who uses comm concepts to teach critical thinking. We're all critical thinking masters by mid-term. Viser's great that way. I'm glad I took his course. Also, it doesn't hurt that he's both super smart and super hot to look at.
Easy course. Just include the things discussed in the lectures. Viser pretty much tells you what he's looking for in his grading if you just pay attention to that. He'll help you with the speeches. Likes to talk about various things going on. Especially likes mountain biking
Don't know about others saying Visor is a "hard-A". Assignments & due dates are detailed & clear, and he often reminds again. He's clear in lectures and about expectations. Visor's straight to the point, and follow the directions and you'll be fine. If you go in thinking it's a "blow-off" class -- well, it's not. He challenges us in a positive way.
Great class - learned a lot. Not very difficult with a few speeches and participation graded. No exams or quizzes. Easy going course with super interesting lectures. It was a nice break from my other classes. Would take this professor again.
Made sure we knew from the get go that this class was not a blow off for sure, but he made it pretty interesting. He is somewhat of a tough grader but if you put work in you'll pass with a B. Hands you all grades by hand and not through Canvas. Only grades were 5 speeches throughout the semester and participation. Ask him about his mountain biking.
Dr. V is super intelligent, but lets us speak our mind freely. He's not a biased professor (like some I know). Stays neutral when we cover political and social speeches. Assignments are well planned. Super handsome, bright, and funny. I'd take him again - I hear he teaches History of Rock occasionally. Just put thought into the speech assignments.
It was a online COMM 205 summer six-week class. Read course materials before giving the speeches - no lectures. My speeches got progressively better with Dr. V's great feedback. He was easy to reach day & night because the class moved fast. Four graded speeches & a grade for professionalism in giving online presentations. Learned a lot. Take him.
You must take notes on paper, no technology usage allowed. Viser will talk about and say very random things and only really teach you for about 1/4 of the lecture. I'm actually a little convinced he wrote some of these himself because no one I know have enjoyed his classes.
Loved the class and especially how I learned how to get over being nervous about public speaking. That was a big deal for many in the class. Lectures were great and we spent lots of time talking about what's expected for the grading tho he's a tough grader. Visor's been one of my best teachers and I would easily take him again.
Dr. Viser made us aware from the beginning that this was going to have to be a class that you must put effort into. His lectures are very entertaining and I always left his class having learned something new. He is somewhat of a tough grader, but he gives you a lot of helpful feedback. He is also very funny and knows a lot about everything.
My 2nd course w/ Visor & another great one. Lectures mostly at the beginning w/ slight overlap of technique concepts between COMM 203 and 203; But the assignments are different for the two courses. Visor is always trying to directly engage us, and for an introvert, this was nerv-racking. But he personally helped me become comfortable at speaking.
I don't think Viser was a bad professor. My main issue with him and his class is the political discrimination. I found myself having to write about things I simply didn't agree with. Yes, I took this class during the presidential election, but I don't think any professor should bring political views into their class.
Easy class if you pay attention to lectures and follow the detailed assignment sheets. Dr. Viser let's us pick our own topics for the speeches, which makes the semester interesting. Great lectures. Just pay attention and participate a couple of times. Ask him about his mountain biking.
COMM 203 was my best course last semester. It was challenging and I like challenges, specially those that improve not just me but also my persona. He's strictly non-political in expressing his personal points of view in class (doesn't do it.).He's the sort of professor I was hoping to get duing my time in college. I would highly recommend.
Dr. Viser is an amazing professor. This class is not easy. Be knowledgeable and intelligent of the topic you are speaking on and be passionate about it. There is a way to nail every speech and it is by crafting your speech in the way of the outline he gives from the very first speech. Amazing lectures and better person!
Fantastic communications professor, class is hard but can get a good grade with effort. Also, people need to understand that speaking factually doesn't reveal your political stance.
Simply one of the best professors I've ever had at A&M. Just completed my second course with Dr. V, and I wish I could take four more with him. He really should be teaching upper courses more often, He's challenging in a good way, but never patronizing. He honestly wants us to become better communicators. Everyone who takes his courses says so.
Easiest summer class I've ever taken. All online, no lectures, just read the assigned materials and guide yourself. Video four speeches that you've written from the prompts. Great feedback for each, and personal email messages to know if I needed anything though we never met as a class. Easy peasy A. Actually learned a lot in the course.
Took COMM 205 in the spring. Dr.V is fairly laid back and super intelligent, he still expected "continuous improvement"in the speeches we make during the course. It's tough if you don't keep up with the assignment and schedules. But, there's no exams or quizzes -- just the speeches. I'd take him again. Made a high B in the course. He's cute, too!
Dr. Viser is a truly caring professor. He takes an interest in your goals and career, which makes you feel heard. I enjoyed attending his classes because he always tried to connect the lectures to real life through stories. I learned many interesting things that I now apply in my courses, and his advice on ppt presentations was super helpful!
Great dude, talks a lot, but also very interesting at the same time. His class is super easy its lit just 4 speeches and youre done, not too harsh grading, but still need to put in some kind of effort
He is a good teacher. he has a lot of experience, not only in public speaking but also in a lot of other random things. His lecture can sometimes not be clear on what he is teaching, but when he is coherent on still make sure to write it down. Also, remember the big fancy words he says in class.
