Unwillingly to answer the questions.
Very nice guy. The man knows his rocks, that's for sure. Pay attention in class and study the notes and you won't have any problems. DO THE LABS!!!
Brilliant professor! The best I've ever had. Everyone should take his class. Interesting lectures and very willing to answer any questions during or after class. Tests can be challenging, so study. Very fair grader. In his class you will definitely learn a lot. Even if you don't like rocks you will after you take him.
Superb teacher and person! Most people thought it was a lot of information, and you do have to take great notes, but he's very interested in the topic, polite, and always helpful and pleasant. Not for people who want an easy A, but great for those who like quality education.
I HATED his assessed lab practicals, but he refused to budge
An awesome Professor, Very Hot anddd Makes geology a fun subject, fell in love with his rocks
Made geology fun and interesting. Was very hot and easy to get distracted by. If you stay on task, have good attendance and study you will do fine
awesome teacher, one of the best i've had knows his stuff, made me VERY interested in geology - discussions are never boring, always interesting, always clear and the tests are never ambiguous - little hmwk (easy stuff), didn't buy the txt, labs + tests challenging.
He's a great professor & he'll answer every "stupid" question you have. I love him!
he makes the class interesting and is really nice! hes not "hot" but hes normal looking lol, great class to take! it has work but its worth it!
Awesome and hot. Really knows his historical geology. Go to the labs, they can make or break your grade. Tests are pretty hard though, make sure that you read the text. He has a pretty dry sense of humor, but he is very funny and is willing to answer even the "dumb questions"

hes kinda hard, but aa very good teacher
Zabielski is a great teacher! You have to work for your grade, but he tells you exactly want you have to do to get it. Clear, straightforward, a good guy all round.
Dr. Z taught a wonderful class. I looked forward to his lectures. He understood perfectly what he was teaching, made it very interesting. He proactively helped students in the Lab, would answer all questions, and stayed as long as the student needed help. He put the most critical info on the board and gave good illustrations. First Class Instructor
I never knew I'd be so interested in rocks & minerals, but Dr Zabielski's passion for geology is infectious and apparent in his teachings. It also helps that he's so organized and clear about what he lectures. There are no surprises on the exams, but there is a lot of material covered - difficult if you've never been exposed to it before.
He teaches everything clearly and teaches what you need to know for tests.
Great Professor. He knows all his stuff. I took this class in order to meet my elective requirements but it turned out to be a good class. If you come to class on a regular basis and take notes you would be good. Missing classes and labs would make it horrible for you to even "C". He gives lot of chances to make up the test.
he is a very gentle guy. he respects students value. the test comes from his lecture. so u have to follow and note down the lecture properly. his question could be tricky but u will be get ur answer from the lecture note.
if you are not geology major, pleaase don't take this professor unless you want to dedicate allll your time for studying extremely long hard and tricky tests he give. You won't know how hard his class is until you take the tests. Take my adviice, so you won't regret it!
Cool Professor but if you are looking to get an A, his class is not the one for you! Seriously, one test has 4 chapters, so you do the math!
verry hard! verry hard!
Yes, he's hard but don't give up. He's willing to help if you ask. I had C's and 2 classmates dropped. But I asked him advice and I did well, even got some A's. My final grade was B. His exam questions are from his lectures. All he wanted was you learn something from his class, which I did love geology. Leave him alone if you think he's cute or hot
Great teacher, has a great sense of humor, not what you would expect with a geology teacher. Lectures are interesting and straigtforward. What you take notes on in class is exactly what is on the test. No surprises. Explains the concepts very well. Genuinely cares about the subject matter and students succeding. A+
Dr. Zabielski's class was one of my most satifying learning experiences at NOVA. His lectures were straight-forward and informative, persented on the board intelligently with great detail. He was friendly, humorous and respectful of students and often stayed in the lab to help students for as long and late as needed. I took good notes and got an A.
Do you want to really learn Geology? If you do, then take this professor. If you want to just get a good grade for science credit requirement, forget it! He's very helpful and clear. Again, harrrrd quizess and test and ....
Really understanding, have sense of humor, have lots of passion for geology. if you are willing to get a good grade hes willing to help. Not an easy class!!

He is a great teacher! Very Clear what he expects! Gives outlines for tests but because he does he makes them more difficult!! Make sure you do your homework and if you do fine in lab your good to go!!! GREAT TEACHER! Take Notes!!
I never took his class. I don't even go to this school but he is really hot. I just wanted him to know.
he not hard or easy. just study his notes and diagrams they come in handy during the test. he have really cool slide pics. he gives an outline from the test.
Great teacher, really enjoyed the class. Had very little interest in Geology prior to class, left class very engaged.
Is he married anyone know for sure? Just finished environmental geology (B) and historical Gol(A) and he is truly a great teacher. Fall semester is ruff on him as well as most of us but all in all the one you want to take for Geology. He likes to make labs that are better then any old take home lab workbook. The tests come from notes so go2class.
Very friendly and laid back. Genuinely passionate about subject matter; lectures are interesting and informative. Very approachable if you need help or have a question. Exams are based on lectures - take good notes! Grades very fairly. Labs were interesting and fun to attend. Not a hard teacher, but you'll need to study for a good grade.
Dr. Z is professional and clear - he is very fair and made Environmental Geology very enjoyable. This was a new class and he put the class together well. Thank you Dr.Z
Dear Dr. Zabielski, we think you're the best. Your knowledge has inspired the second graders at Bradt School in New York State to learn more about geology in Mrs. Brem's class. Thanks to Dr. Zabielski!
Great teacher! Funny guy, made the subject very interesting. Knows subject very well. Just study for the exams and you'll do just fine. Thanks professor!!
Dr. Z is the greatest teacher in the world! He makes Geology very interesting and understandable. The labs are the best. Dr Z stays as long as you have questions, and if he leaves before you are done, you can find him in his office. I highly recommend him to anyone considering Geology!! Dr. Z, you ROCK!
Amazing teacher. I am terrible at science and I did very well in his class, which is not to say that it's easy. Extremely helpful and passionate about Geology. Good eye candy, too.
Amazing teacher. Before I took tat class i did not care about the Geology at all. But Professor Z is so good at it that you become very interesting in it. Extremely helpful, don't be shy ask him if you don't understand smth.if u take good notes you wil get an easy A and most of all u'll like Geology.
Dr.Z is an amazing teacher. He is strict, and although his class and labs are not mandatory, if you don't go, you will fail. His exams come mostly form his lectures, which are very clear and understandable. He is, himself, a walking book!.Had lots of fun in fosil labs. He is a cutie too!
very good, explains clearly, A+++
He is great.
Dr.Zabielski makes the topic interesting and you learn a lot from his Oceanography lectures. Do not skip class if you want to get a good grade. I would recommend his class.
Stay away from this dude! He thinks that he is the smartest thing on the planet. He doesn't think how many other classes students might have, he just throws assignments at you.
Very good teacher. Writes lots of notes. Exams are mostly on the notes. Each exam is in the exact same format- they are not easy! He says turning in hw on time is not essential but i would recommend you do. go to every class write down all the notes and you will do well.
Very good teacher easy to follow.
Excellent professor. He will help you every step of the way. Be prepared to study though. His classes aren't for slackers. You will do well if you study.
Absolutely the best professor I've ever had in my life. Extremely clear on what is on the exam. Go to class and make sure you get all of the notes. He is passion and enthusiasm for geology is contagious. Very easy to talk to, will go out of his way to meet with students for extra help. I highly recommend him!! BEST PROFESSOR AT NOVA!!!
This professor is awesome. He takes time to write out all of the notes on the board so obviously hes going to test you on them. Hes funny and charming and most of all very enthusiastic about rocks. Now even I love rocks lol.
Mr. Zabielski is a great professor! He knows everything about everything. TAKE GOOD NOTES, GO TO ALL CLASSES & STUDY HARD in this class. This is not the place for slackers. His TESTS are HARD, but there's lots of extra credit on them.
Dr. Zabielski is a great teacher. His method of teaching is straight forward. All exam questions come directly from the class notes. Make sure you take down all/good notes. The class isn't an easy one but if you study and take good notes then it won't be that difficult.
Mr. Z is a great teacher! One of my favorites of all time!!! I took him for both Historical and Physical Geology. He is very knowlegeable and his interest in Geology is infectious! His notes are very clear. Take A LOT of notes, study hard and you will do great.
Dr. Zabielski is an excellent professor! His lectures cover and explain in detail all material on tests and quizzes. Copy all notes he writes on the board and study, and you will succeed in this class. If you need extra help, he will oblige. Highly recommend!
Dr. Z is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is extremely knowledgable and passionate about the subject. This is NOT an easy class. This class WILL change how you view the natural world, and will open your eyes to some very cool stuff! His lectures are very structured, and he does everything on the board. Take notes, study, and do well!!
Good Professor. His lectures are PACKED with information, so be sure to take good notes. He certainly knows his stuff. I took 106 without 105 first, which is something I don't recommend. His exams in lecture and lab are a bit challenging, but he gives a good amount of extra credit. Homework is only occasional and fairly easy.
This professor is critically acclaimed and very active in his field so he knows his stuff. His lectures are packed with information and his tests have EVERYTHING that was mentioned in the lectures! If you are looking for an easy A do not take him. It's fast pace and you need to have time to study. He is quite funny at times just remember to STUDY!
Wonderful. I would suggest taking all your Geology classes with him!
Paces the class well so that you have time to follow along in your notes. Everything on the tests is from the notes. A lot of memorization but he is a phenomenal teacher!
This class is notes based so you have to go to every class and study your notes carefully. Lab is fun and he gives great online resources for the rock and mineral lab quizzes. Overall, this class was enjoyable and thought provoking. I highly recommend taking a class with him if you have the chance!
This class is full of content but if you follow his notes closely and note what he says you will get a good grade. He is fair and helpful. Just ask and he will help you. He knows his stuff and he loves what he does so expect great class lectures. Just take great notes and you will do fine.
Tests require a lot of studying if you're not naturally skilled at science. He doesn't offer extra credit or make-ups, but you can take an optional cumulative final exam to make up for one of your bad exams. Also assigns an essay, which he offers to look over with you beforehand. Would help if you took GOL105 before this or another geology class.
If you likelove science. Prof. Zabielski is the professor for you. I took Oceanography which was interesting but really hard. I'm not a science person. Read the book, take notes and you'll be fine. There's a bell curve at the end of the semester so that can help you too. I sleep walked through the class and got a C somehow. Notes are kind of messy
Dr. Z is an excellent professor. Tests are difficult but if you pay attention and take notes you will be fine. Knows his stuff and walks the walk because of his extensive knowledge and experience.
Don't take his class even if you have taken 105. I would of traveled to a different campus if I knew his class was going to be like this. I'm telling you if you have a high GPA and want to keep it high. Class on average gets a C to a low B. I am graduated NVCC and this by far was the hardest class I took at NOVA.
The style of the class is basically he writes notes on the board that you write down, and that's what's on the test. The tests are pretty extensive as a result, but doable if you study. Only a few homework assignments (none are very hard). The textbook isn't a necessity but it can help. Never used the lab manual.
Victor is a great professor, he's extremely knowledgable about the topic and brings a lot of passion to his lectures. Tests can be tough if you don't know what to expect, but once you get an idea of what he's looking for they're not that bad. He's a very down to earth person (hah) and I highly recommend him. Also, he's hilarious.
Prof. Zabielski is, in my opinion, one of the best NVCC has teaching. He's quite knowledgeable with excellent credentials. Additionally, he's an engaging lecturer with a light sense of humor. Tests/ quizzes are paramount with studying a priority, as a result. It is possible to coast, but not recommended. Learning is very much guaranteed.
His such a great geology professor, he knows his stuff but since he knows geology so well he will be a tough grader. If you try and work for the grade you want you can easily get an A or B with no doubt but it's not easy.
Professor Z is the worst professor I took this semester, his class is full of information and he doesn't bother to you the steps at labs, he expects you to learn from his lecture in one day. Dont ever take his class, if u do just make sure your major is geology. Hate his class
I just wanted to say how absolutely wonderful this class was. From his teaching style to the labs and the field trip, I really learned a lot and was continuously challenged. It really is nice to be in a class with an instructor of whom is very dedicated and genuinely interested in what is taught and answering any questions posed. Highly recommended
Class is difficult if you plan on taking the 8-week online course. No study guides given. I felt I had so much work to complete, I didnt have a chance to study. Two group projects. By no means an easy class, and failed every test and still made a C. (Curve was added.) Would take him again. Knows his stuff and one of the best at NOVA.
Professor Zabielski is amazing. If you are interested in Geology he is the best in Nova. Lectures are very interesting. He explains everything in details and very fair grader. There are 4 exams( the final is optional) and 4 lab quizzes. Also a field trip or a lab work from the Smithsonian instead. He is a great professor. Take his class!!
Professor Zabielski was the worst professor that I ever had. I took him GOL 106. He didn't have PowerPoints in his lectures; everything was written on the white board. He expectsed the students to know the information really fast and he didn't provided any help during the labs. If your major is not GEOLOGY, don't but take him!!!!!!!!!!!
Professor Zabielski is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his content. He provides a lot of information and his tests encompass a lot, but he clearly explains his grading criteria and curves tests if the results are low. His fieldtrip is interesting and his labs are super hands on. I learned a ton in his class. I enjoyed his sense of humor.
STUDY FOR THE FIRST EXAM He starts the semester telling us the final is optional but makes the first test super hard when it didnt have to be, the homeworks were hard to understand he doesnt post on Bb his tests are hard you have to study. He makes geology hard because it makes him so mad that people take this class because its easy, VICTOR IS NOT.
Take GOL105 before GOL106, it's not mandatory but I highly recommend it. The test are hard so be sure to study. He is accommodating if you turn in late work, as long as you provide proof that you completed the assignment on time. Dont skip class, you will regret it!
Professor Zabielski clearly loves geology with a passin and enjoys teaching it, but he's not good at engaging students who aren't very interested in it (and only need it for a credit). His lecture notes are mostly just him scribbling on the board as he goes, so it's easy to get lost. Overall he's pretty average, but stay away if you want an easy A.
I took geology to receive an easy A, but I got so much out of his class. His test aren't that hard if you study. He offers extra credit and will work with you if he sees you tried! He's also very passionate about geology and makes his classes fun and interesting.
Overall the workload is tough with lots to read and the lab is difficult but you can manage. There is no study guide so its easy to fail the exam. Take NOTES! He grades tough. I was .06% away from an A and there was no extra credit or consideration to help me get that A. So disappointed. Group projects is the worst. The materials is time-consuming
We had less than 10 assignments the whole semester, which were all straight forward. He has PowerPoints, takes notes off those because all the answers are there. If you do not show up to class he posts his zooms. Exams were kind of lengthy but not impossible to pass.
He is definitely very knowledgeable but oftentimes it feels like he forgets that most of his students in this particular level of Geology are not pursuing a geology major. He expects a lot from his students when it comes to exams. I don't necessarily believe he is a bad professor. To me, he honestly looks stressed a lot of the time.
Prof. Zabielski is a great lecturer and I really enjoyed the course. The course is very easy if you just attend class and put in the effort. The quizzes and exams are not very difficult if you study and go by the study guide he provides.
You can tell Dr. Zabielski loves his topic, in the discussions he starts, the readings he assigns and the way he goes about lectures. The exams did feel very hard even through I spent a good amount of time studying. The questions come from slides he spends most time in so pay attention to those. He uses a white board to write and draw so TAKE NOTES
I had to drop his class because I knew I wasn't going to pass. His labs are impossible to understand and he won't make sure that you understand the concepts. His lectures are long and boring. If your major is Geology, you'll probably like him. If you are just trying to fulfill your requirements and looking for an easy A, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Knows what he's talking about and is a great gol professor if you're into the subject. It isn't an easy A for a graduation requirement, you do have to put in the work. He does seem to understand geology isn't for everyone, though. Textbooks aren't required but can probably help supplement if you're struggling. Inspired me to pursue a minor in gol!
While he is a good guy and very interesting, if you just want the credit don't take the class
It's an interesting class. just pay attention to lectures study the power points and you gonna do good. And the professor will always help you.
INSTANT REGRET... Do not take this class. He always looks stressed about something and the students will have to pretend to care about geology as much as he does to not get on his bad side and pass. Please do not enroll and take a different science. You have been warned.
Good prof
Should've dropped out when i got the chance. If you need this class for a credit i would take a Different course/Professor...
Dr. Zabielski is clearly passionate about geology, but the class can be a real challenge, even for those not majoring in the subject. Make use of resources like the free textbook and Unstuck ai to supplement the lectures. Attend study sessions and stay engaged - it's worth the effort.
I never rate on here but I had to for this guy. His tests are very heavy, on paper, a lot of write-in questions. You have lectures twice a week including one lab on the same day. You do not get breaks so just walk out. This has been my worst experience at NOVA so far. I HIGHLY recommend not taking professor. You have been WARNED.
Long classes, back to back lecture and lab. Exams and grades are very difficult.
No feedback, outdated materials, unclear instructions.Memorize everything in the textbook(ch.4-5)per exam.He doesn't give anything to prepare students for exams so they won't fail. I passed everything with good scores, but missing less than 3% on exam. Hope he consider your effort, even giving D, but clearly don't care if his students pass or fail.
If you don't read the textbook, you won't understand the concepts entirely. I took two other 6-week courses at the same time, leaving little time for reading. Make sure you have the time for this course as there is a lot of content to cover. The professor was understanding if you messaged him in time and is passionate about the subject.
Great professor that clearly cares not only about teaching but also his subject matter. Very passionate about geo. Funny and caring. Participation was not graded. If you took thorough notes in lecture, which he tells you to do, you should do well on exams. EC opportunities in the exams. Would rec & would take again. Easy class if you pay attention!
He is a kind person but his lectures tend to be content heavy and long. His tests are difficult but fair at the college level. If you have poor study habits, I would not recommend taking this class as all the exams require a lot of time dedicated to studying. Few homeworks and attendance is not required. Not terrible, but there are better options.
Professor is passionate about the subject, so he did not miss any class, and the content of the class is long, a lot of information, but the professor is always available.
Very thorough. Few homework assignments, all of which are very easy. His exams are mixed-type, so some multiple choice, some SAQ, etc., which I felt like made them less daunting.
