I had her for Math 99, which was a very useful class for me to take. I hadn't taken math since my sophomore year of highschool and going into this class she made it a very nice and easy transition. She doesnt baby you, she will hold you accountable for everything you do in class (homework, quizes, exams) Very useful class!!!
loved Victoria! if you struggle in this class, go to her office hours. she is super enthusiastic about math and loves to make you understand what's going on. she is always eager to help and her teaching methods are fantastic. im horrible at math but for once i knew what was going on!
Victoria's the best! Very clear instruction and her office hours are always helpful. Easy tests if you do the homework and go to class. I wish she taught MATH 114!
Victoria is one of the more helpful teachers I have met thus far. Her directions are pretty clear. Just attend classes and you will do good on the tests. Do the homework too. It's 15% of your grade.
I loved Victoria! I took 114 with her in Spring 2011. I had taken preccalc in high school and had been totally lost but she made it very simple. Her lectures are easy to follow, she uses memorable examples, she's a lot of help during office hours, and spends as much time as she can answering homework questions. Definitely would recommend!
She is so awesome! In her class, once she taught something, things almost became TOO easy. I loved her class and i plan on taking 112 with her as well. AMAZING TEACHER!
She makes it easy to understand the math for homework, but her tests are tricky. Make sure you study hard for the tests.
This class is very homework based- if you don't want to do your homework every single day, take a different teacher. Other than that, Victoria is very helpful and sincere. She's a real sweetheart.
I adore Victoria as a teacher -- and she's a pretty lovely person, too! I do not like mathematics at all, but I ended up enjoying the class due to her splendid personality. She is clear, concise, energetic, and enthusiastic. A word of warning, however -- she talks and writes REALLY FAST so you'll become a speedeier note-taker by quarter's end!
Victoria is awesome! She's always cheery and really loves the subject she teaches! She is really clear about the material and is super helpful during office hours and is willing to make time for you if you can't make her office hours! She was just snazzy!!
Amazing teacher! I hated math before this class, but she made it very enjoyable. I actually looked forward to going to class.
Such an awesome teacher! Victoria is super nice and is really good at what she does! I would totally recommend her to anyone considering taking the class!
Victoria is really great and is very helpful. My only frustration with this class is that even when you KNOW the material, she will take away points on the exam for minor wording - so your grade could go from an A to B, B to C, etc because of this.
Victoria is simply the best. Easily the best math teacher I've ever had. I felt like math was do-able in her class. She's extremely clear, and if you do your homework WELL you'll have no problem with exams and quizzes (with a little studying, but not much). Absolutely take her class if you have the chance!
She has a very peppy personality, so she would be a good choice for a morning class. Also, she does her very best to help with work. (i.e. if you dont understand, she will make you understand). Had her twice already and she was awesome :)
Awesome professor! Always willing to give help, lots of fun and really easy to learn from. Writes all of her examples on the board and the day before a test does Q&A of just your questions. Highly recommended!
She is marginal at best when it comes to explaining pre-calc concepts. She is either obtuse to the students' comprehension of the topics or she just doesn't care. She seems like a nice, fun person, but she is not a quality educator by any means.
She was a joy to have as a teacher. I had failed pre-calc before, so I took a placement test to get into accelerated. Even though I couldn't make it to her office hours because I had another class, she was always very accommodating, highly recommend, even if you don't like/aren't good at Math.
I love Victoria! Although this class is very difficult. She is very good at explaining concepts during lectures but the homework is VERY hard and doesn't correlate with what we learn in class. The tests are really hard too. Hard class, but great professor
I thought she was very helpful and clear, she explains things very well and when she does it is easy to understand. She is very easy to listen to, good personality. If your taking 118 it is a fast pace class but she is definitely a good teacher for it.
I loved Victoria, she's an awesome math teacher! She is very clear and understandable. It's very fast paced, but thats just how the course is. I would take another math class with her if I needed one!
I loved Victoria! She was super peppy and enthusiastic about the class. She was 6 months pregnant with twins at the beginning of the quarter, (she's due during final week) and she was still always reliable and helpful. She's a great teacher that loves to teach pooey classes. I highly suggest her!
Really great teacher. I don't know when she is coming back to work after having kids.
Victoria was a great teacher. She really made sure her students knew what she was teaching. This class is very fast paced so you need to do the homework in order to do well in the class and understand the material.
Victoria is just plain awesome. I have never understood a math class or professor so well. I highly suggest taking a math class with her because she does such a great job answering questions, and is extremely helpful and patient in her office hours. I would 100% suggest her as a professor for anybody.
If you do not have a good foundation of Pre-Calculus before taking this class, it will be VERY challenging. Many students in the class are students who have already taken Calculus, but didn't pass their exams. She is a VERY fast talker, but very helpful. This course is good for those who just need to breeze through math.
I do not understand how people on here say she is the best teacher, she is mediocre at best wastes time on conceptional topics not enough examples and exams are unfair in terms of material presented and assigned. Avoid.
Just terrible I think she said this is her first time teaching this class and its evident. Her exams are brutal compared to what is taught and assigned. Helpful during office hours, but doesnt make up for her poor quality avoid......
Her teaching style is cool for the most part, but she teaches all of the easy stuff of the chapter and you have to figure out the harder stuff later. She promises a breakdown of your assignments/tests to see if you need to correct anything she mightve put in wrong, but she never actually gives you a breakdown of your grade at all.
It is a hard class and she moves pretty quickly, she isn't a bad teacher, but she isn't the best either.
Nice lady but only puts the hardest questions on exams that sometimes have nothing to do with what we are learning. We learned how to do problems after we had already taken the exam about them. not the worst teacher ive had but very confusing at times.
Avoid this professor even if you have already taken a calculus course like I have. Her tests are leaps and bounds harder than any homework or quiz and her exam expectations are very unclear which makes the course frustrating since exams are worth well over 80% of your grade. She also races through explanations leaving you very confused as well.
Tests contain mostly word problems which take up a ton of time on tests, and were very difficult. It was hard to finish the tests before running out of time. Good professor, but if you are not a strong test taker, I would suggest another teacher who's tests are less wordy and lengthy.
Victoria was a great teacher. She was very passionate about the subject, and seemed like a very normal person (talks a lot about her kids). She made the concepts clear and presented the information in a fun way. She also asked a lot of leprechaun-themed math questions on the final. Class was great, info was clear, teacher was cool. Would recommend!
I like Victoria a lot as a person. She is super sweet, funny, and helpful. As a teacher, she is pretty good, although she spends a little too much time on proofs and not enough time doing examples. Her quizzes/exams are much more difficult than the homework. However she is always willing to help you out during office hours, and is a fair grader
Nice person however not the best teacher. She wastes a lot of time on theory and at best 5 minutes at the end of class on examples that are not even close to the difficulty on exams. If given the choice choose a better professor she's not worth the time.
She was very fast paced but funny to listen to and very happy with teaching the subject. I would take another class with her anytime.
Victoria is very charismatic and energetic which make her lectures very unique and memorable, which is not typical in the math department. Her tests are difficult, but not impossible, i.e. you will not have seen problems in the homework exactly like the ones on the tests, but they are still manageable. She for sure makes you work for your grade.
On a surface level, Victoria is fine. She's upbeat and humorous and talks nonstop. Problem is her lectures don't give enough examples and there isn't time to practice in class. She is very abrasive and condescending one-on-one. I was very uncomfortable going to her for help. Her tests are usually too long and harder than anything she's taught you.
Victoria is an amazing person, very upbeat, fun and enthusiastic! However, she talks fast. Very fast. If you're a slow learner and you learn by doing things yourself you're going to need to do a lot of extra work outside of class in order to get a good grade. Going to class and doing just the homework will not ensure that you pass.
Victoria is a great teacher. She is very thorough however she talks very fast. She is extremely peppy and funny so she's good at keeping you engaged. However she has a "pop" quiz every other day almost so be sure to go to class and do your homework.
Hardest class at WWU
Victoria is a great person. Her lectures made sense and her office hours were kind of helpful but her exams are really hard to finish in time and there's always a couple problems that we would be taught how to do after the exam because no one got it right. There are never problems on the exams that were on the homework so just be prepared for that
Victoria is always in a great mood and loves what she teaches. She is always available for help and is very approachable.
Victoria's teaching style worked really well for me. However if you aren't the best learner or require some extra help you'll probably need to use the tutoring center to stay on top. It's quick learning, she talks really fast and you're tested every friday.
The class was very hard for me. She tests conceptually, so you don't get to just plug in numbers. I went to her office hours EVERY SINGLE DAY. She was very helpful, I couldn't have done as well without going. She is also a really nice and happy person. I got a C on her first quiz, but A's on everything after. You just need to be prepared to work.
Although I did get a low grade, I understood way more than I did with any previous math professor. She is extremely helpful and doesn't make you feel dumb for asking questions. Quizzes are every Friday but there is no midterm and only the final. I recommend taking 095 beforehand though.
Victoria is a great professor! Her teaching style worked really well for me -- she gives you enough examples and information to do the homework. The tests are easy if you do the homework and understand what's going on in class. She talks about her kids probably everyday. She made sure why you were doing the math steps and not just giving you steps.
Very hard class but if you work really hard it's passable. I went to office hours everyday and the tutoring center as much as possible and I received a C and was very happy. One of the hardest classes I've ever taken and you have to put lots of effort in. Victoria is there to help if you go to office hours though.
Great professor!!! She really cares about people learning and understands that some people are not as great as others at math!! She gives partial credit if you get most of the process, but miss the answer... she has the class decide on the problems we wanted to over from the homework!! Homework every night...
She's very good about explaining things in class and being available for extra help. When it comes to homework it's an average amount. Yet when it comes to exams they were all conceptual and very difficult. Most of the time I felt that the preparation and homework we had done was useless for the exams. On top of that she's a very picky hard grader.
The problem isn't with Anderson, shes a great professor and very into her lectures. The math classes at Western absolutely suck. I didn't pass Math112 twice, but I tested out of it. So the school really needs to change it's math courses.
Victoria breathes math so be ready for some incredibly fast paced lectures. She knows everything about math and is very willing to answer your questions. She is very nice and not a bad teacher but if youre taking 124 or 125 get ready for how fast she talks and those impossible tests
I love Victoria! She is such a nice person, but if you can't follow a person who talks very quickly, you should take math with someone else. Overall, amazingly nice and helpful, and grades basically average for math at WWU.
First things first: Victoria talks fast. You really have to consciously focus on what she's saying the whole time she's lecturing to catch everything. That being said, she is obviously brilliant at math and gives some great explanations for concepts. She's funny, personable, and her dynamic lecture style makes it easy to stay engaged.
Victoria teaches at a quick pace, so be sure to slow her down if you're missing something. The biggest things to remember is to take advantage of her office hours and ask her questions. She will work out any math problem for you!
A very difficult class to pass. The tests didn't match with what she was teaching. Its impossible to study for the test because you don't know whats going to be on it.
Victoria teaches at an extremely fast pace which is very difficult to keep up with. Her tests are also nothing like the material she teaches which makes them very difficult to study for. A large chunk of my class dropped the course. Her office hours were not super helpful as she still spoke at a very fast pace. I do not recommend her as a professor
Victoria's tests and quizzes are nothing like what she teaches and what she assigns for homework. She will even put material on a test that she never went over. This makes it almost impossible to get a good grade in her class. She talks way too fast and makes it difficult for students to keep up. A large chunk of my math class withdrew.
Victoria lectures at an extremely fast pace that is very difficult to keep up with. She will slow down if you ask, but only for a few minutes. She is very smart but does not know how to teach students below the calc level. Her tests and quizzes don't match her lectures either making an already hard class, extra difficult
She is extremely fast passed teacher and it is very difficult to keep up with her. Also whats on the exam and whats in the homework are two totally different things. Dont be fooled by her take home exams, they are extremely difficult. She does at least know her math, and will consistently show up on time.
The way the exams were written were nothing like the homework assigned making it hard to get a good grade
For MATH 124 at least, she teaches at 200 mph. be ready for a very fast, very dense lecture and a pretty good chunk of homework outside of class. If you don;t study the book and do some self teaching outside of class you won't do well. But she really does care about helping you learn and will do her best to do so.
Fast talker
Talks extremely fast and is especially focused on conceptual learning rather than skill-based learning. This means the tests are going to be nothing like the homework. She does care about the students, but that doesn't make much of a difference when you're failing the class. Get ready to take studying to an all new level.
Really difficult class, but if you're actually there to learn and aren't just trying to skid by then she's the best professor. She sets the class up so you're learning content faster than the other classes but she continuously reviews. Best math professor I've ever had. Actually cares if you're learning.
Victoria is really kind and caring. That being said, I don't think her teaching style is for people who aren't geniuses. She talks faster than light and often skips a lot of steps - although she does go back to clarify if you ask. Her quizzes are ultra hard but she gave me as much partial credit as possible. Review your algebra. Daily homework.
She a really good teacher who doesnt speed through everything, and she actually cares about how youre doing. You have a weekly quiz, and homework every night that is due the next day in class, so you cant skip class. The homework isnt hard though, and she grades you just for trying on the quizzes/ homework. Pretty good teacher, and really funny
By far the most confusing tests ive ever had. The best way to study for them was to get in a group and talk about math. There was nothing on the test that resembled the homework. They exams cover concepts that only people who love math would know about.
DO NOT TAKE CLASSES WITH HER IF YOU STRUGGLE IN MATH! She is a good person but her classes are structured much harder than other math classes in the same math level. She creates harder tests than other classes so BE AWARE. She is better for students when math comes natural and are looking for a challenge/deeper understanding.
Victoria is a very knowledgeable teacher and when she is actually going over course material very easy to understand. She likes to really speed along though but if you ask her to explain or go slower she listens. This class has a class every Friday with few opportunities for extra credit, and attendance and the textbook are very mandatory.
Her examples are very confusing, she doesnt have time to fit student issues in class so you have to meet outside class but her office hour very inconvenient and hard to attend. There is a low tolerance for mistakes and student difficulties. Can be really nice and also really passive aggressive and rude. Has a necessity for extreme control of class
She is awful at explaining and talks about her kids too much.
I loved her! She truly cares about what she's doing and cares that you understand the material. She grades with partial credit on tests and some other assignments which can help your grade a lot. If you skip you likely won't know what she is talking about though. She expects you to be responsible. If you can do that you'll likely get an A.
Victoria is an absolute pleasure and really seems to care for her students. She helped me get connected to the disability center so I could get accommodations for my test anxiety. She is very clear about her expectations, and limitations, and will warn you that she talks fast (which is very true). She is genuinely excited about the subject.
She is obviously passionate about what she teaches and is a very funny person. However there is quite a few long difficult assignments that are unnecessary and are not done in any other math class at this level. She also teaches very, VERY fast and dose not provide through examples or take the appropriate amount of time to answer questions.
Victoria is a wonderful person. I love her energy and spirit during class. She also knows the material inside and out. However, classes go so fast and her exams are EXTREMELY hard. She assigns projects that are supposed to help your grade, but are instead very difficult and time consuming. Overall, this class is very difficult for a math 115 course
She's a nice person but goes super fast and it's pretty hard unless you go to office hours.
Victoria acts like a kindergarten teacher, but don't be fooled, her tests are extremely difficult. She's by far the best math teacher I've ever had, and genuinely loves math. She talks very quickly and passionately, which keeps me awake. Her tests are far more conceptual than skill-based. Not an easy A. Extremely reccomended for math majors.
Decent but not great, seems like a good pick for a math major. This is because she really gets into the talking about your work and proving things(or a low level version of that).
Took her class for less than two weeks and decided to switch to another. Anderson talks extremely fast that it makes it very hard to keep up with the lesson. Homework is assigned everyday, and spent an average of 1-2 hours a day on it.
Victoria teaches with a high emphasis on concepts and understanding why what your doing makes sense. Her lectures can be fast, homework can be tough, and attendance is mandatory, but she knows her stuff and is so willing and ready answer questions so ask! Ask questions, do the work, go to class and office hours, and you should do just fine.
homework doesnt relate to the tests. grade determined by the tests. Strongly advised to go elsewhere
If you are not that great at calculus, DO NOT TAKE HER. She is by far the worst professor I have ever had and it's like she expects you to fail. For the online course, she posted lecture videos that she found on youtube of someone else teaching that were only sometimes only 5 minutes long. I regret taking a class where the teacher cares so little.
When given back graded tests / project the reasons for losing points on a problem were very vague and ambiguous, that made it hard to do test corrections, and to get better at the class.
Professor Anderson often gives her students a lot of pressure to pass her class. Tests are extremely hard, the worst class I've ever taken.
She is the worst math professor I've ever had. Projects, Midterm Exams, and Final Exams are definitely challenging. There are lots of homework and notes providing to her students doing at the current day.
Skills Test gives only a chance providing to her students. Every tests from Professor Anderson are so difficult to let students going to the next math level.
Professor Anderson's lecture is really tough for her students to pass, no matter which math level is in. I had Math 125 with Professor Anderson during Spring Quarter 2020. If you are not really good at math, do not take Anderson's lecture! This professor talks too fast, assigns too much work, etc.
Professor Anderson is really a bad professor. Anderson makes everybody who learns Math at WWU to fail, especially those who are terrible at math. She is harsh.
Professor Anderson has an unnecessary meeting with students before the first day of quarter starts during Pandemic. Even there is a syllabus quiz that should not be required.
Coursework and lectures are repetitive, tedious, and do not respect the student's time.
Professor Anderson assigns too much homework and has so many worksheets to do during class. If you are not a Math major, do not take this professor's class, where Anderson treats really unfair to her students who take math classes at WWU.
Not clear at all. Never once did I feel that she adequately prepared me for assignments or quizzes. She refuses to elaborate via email/canvas message. Somewhat helpful during office hours but moves so quickly with NO concern for whether you are understanding. Incredibly discouraging feedback. Seems to really resent students and what she is doing.
Avoid this dude forever at Western if you learn Mathematics, including you'd be a math major).
This professor is the worst who must be avoided by everyone who learns Math at Western. There are a lot of hw and every Exams from this dude professor's class is much harder than any math professor at Western. Not good at all!
Moves very quickly during lectures and students are often left feeling lost and/or confused so be prepared to do a lot of reviewing on your own. Definitely made worse by recorded lectures due to covid. Significant amount of work is due each night + frequent quizzes so not much leniency for falling behind. Good about having office hours though!
I mean this in all sincerity please don't have her as your professor. She does not care if you pass. Her lectures are super fast paced abstract and not meant for students learning pre calc concepts for the first time.
This was the hardest math class I've ever take. I barley had time to breath in this class, I literally forgot I had other classes because of how demanding this one was. She speeds through lectures and doesn't make a whole lot of sense most of the time. Also, she doesn't have any extra credit, all I have to say is, good luck passing ://
I'm not exaggerating at all when I say this - She's the WORST professor I've ever had. Too frustrated with her to get it all on here. She shouldn't hold a teaching license. I'm not a bad student. I have had over 99% in all of my other courses regardless of difficulty, I put the time in and usually get out what I put in. Not with this class.
Horrible at explaining, refuses to take any responsibility for success of her students and most of all: Pain. Just pain.
I find math hard, but Victoria made it alright. I don't understand why so many negative reviews were left this quarter. She's a really good teacher and cares if you're learning. There's a lot of work, but it's doable. She's also been really reasonable with COVID and is super quick about communication. She's got office hours every day!
Listen here kids, Victoria's class has a lot of work. BUT it's not any more work than if you had a different professor, it's just how math classes go.. lots of work. If you go to class, take notes, and do your homework, you will pass with ease. She is easy to reach during office hours and responds quickly to emails. Fall 2020.
Doesn't know how to lecture or grade. Makes up useless criteria in her head. Doesn't take feedback well and would rather leave a question blank than attempt it on an exam and no more points back for getting it wrong. Just a honest waste of a class.
The past two reviews for this professor are awfully fishy, all gave her a 5/5 without really saying why, they just say something like Best Professor Ever! Makes me think that she writes reviews for herself in order to look well. Anderson was an AWFUL professor, her exams don't make sense, hard to access outside class. Avoid Anderson ALL COSTS!!!
Worst prof I've had, by far! Horrible use of class time focusing on material that will not be on exams. Insists that the best way to learn is to struggle as a class, and refuses to teach the class certain topics. Blames class for poor grades on exams, doesn't take responsibility for her lack of teaching skills. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
Do not take this prof ever. Anderson tests you in ways you are not prepared for, the assigned work has little to do with what is tested. Over half the class failed the course. Victoria is just unfair and also assigns loads of busy work. In Brief, Victoria does not understand how to teach Calc II very well.
Victoria is really stinky on teaching Calc II (Math 125) stuff.
AVOID. Doesn't seem to care about students or his teaching. Absolutely the toughest grader I've ever had and doesn't curve grades or give extra credit. Victoria is very rude and generally overcomplicates things. STAY AWAY if you value your grades.
Avoid this class! The average quiz score was 60% yet Professor Anderson blamed the students for not doing well. She can't take criticism and doesn't seem to understand she's not a great teacher. She's super condescending as well and makes passive aggressive remarks towards her students. Anderson only started to be nice towards the end to save face.
Victoria's class was extremely frustrating and disappointing. Victoria's teaching style was difficult to follow. This class felt like a waste of time. If someone choose Victoria for Math 124 in winter quarter 2021, please drop it!
If you aren't naturally very good at math, don't take it! Victoria skips a lot of steps in problems on his lectures and moves very fast.
Worst Instructor! Mumbles all the time. Doesn't realize when students are struggling.
Victoria is one of the worst math professors I have ever had. Victoria made me hate math. Very unorganized and bad at lecturing. Won't answer questions and tests are completely different from the homework. Victoria is rude and doesn't give enough time. If you want a good grade I recommend a different one.
Tests do not relate to content, appear to take joy in confusing students. Tutors not able to answer questions or problems.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. I am begging you. By far the hardest prof. I have had at WWU. Does not take students needs into account, ambivalent if you fail or are struggling and creates exams that are nearly impossible for students to get a good grade on.
WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T TAKE HER CLASS. She is by far the hardest professor I've had at WWU. She doesn't care if your are struggling/failing her class (our average exam scores were almost always D's and F's) and doesn't care about the wellbeing of her students. Do yourself a favor and find another prof. who cares about the material at hand.
Good god Professor Anderson is horrendous. She had a nasty attitude throughout the quarter and seemed to want her students to fail. Her tests were way more difficult than the examples she showed in lecture and homework. I hope she changes her attitude in the future or just quits. Either one would be great.
This class was the worst. I used my textbook to teach myself the whole time. Victoria was not accommodating at all and had bad communication. I felt pretty lost on Victoria's Exams, as they were excessively difficult for no reason.
Victoria's lectures are like nothing else. Victoria also repeats the same things several days in a row and introduces assignments that are incredibly challenging. Never mentioned the book during the lecture but did require problems. Difficult class, expectations were unclear.
so boring, difficult to understand, and doesn't explain well at all!
Disorganized class with matching lectures. Two big projects, examples, and graded problems are tough, but ultimately more time-consuming than they're worth for the understanding you gain.
Victoria has a hard understanding lecture style and gets easily confused when lecturing. Every Exam from Victoria was very difficult and a very uncaring professor, especially during a pandemic.
I took Victoria before COVID hit. Victoria did not seem to care and does not tell you what's going to be on the exam which makes it difficult to study for and also isn't very accommodating towards her students. This professor was the worst.
First and foremost, Victoria is very passive-aggressive and hard to understand. Victoria's lectures are impossible to follow and will not use a blank space. I was not the only one to mention this as most of the class was also struggling.
Worst teacher I have ever had. She did not care about her students at all, and her lectures were so confusing and unclear. There was so much homework, I felt flooded by math 24/7. This class was the basis of my stress. She was extremely rude. Everyone was struggling in this class but that didn't seem to matter, nothing was ever her fault.
Would NOT recommend this class. She skips steps during lectures making it hard to follow. Weekly quizzes are way harder than homework assignments. I asked mult. times for feedback on my quizzes and she never replied. The final included a question that asked you to analyze REAL covid stats (how insensitive rn?) with math we never even learned
Victoria is awesome. Do your homework and don't miss class and you will do fine. She is really approachable during office hours for extra help if you need it.
Worst professor I've ever had; want to give 0. Lectures with no awareness of student understanding. Avoid Victoria at all!
Victoria's incredibly vague when you want help with something in-office hours. Calculus itself is actually not too hard, but Victoria makes it impossible. Avoid Victoria.
Math&Art. Expected to figure things out even with limited prior math experience. When asked for clarification of assignments, answers were confusing and unhelpful. Sounds like a fun class but is extremely time consuming. Final project prompt is extremely vague. No tests, though.
I only have one thing to say and it is; Do not take Math 115 taught by Victoria. Terrible!
Struggled to get through this class. Hw was way too long, even for math. Graded super harshly on tests. Seemed to be punishing the class with more difficult tests bc people werent coming to class, where she only went over a few hw questions. Rarely available outside of class for help. Very vague and unhelpful with questions. AVOID
This was the worst class I've ever taken. The workload is insane and she grades EXTREMELY hard. She seems to take delight in confusing her students and believes that she is never wrong. The only reason I didn't drop this class was because I had to take it for a pre requisite. Do not take this class if you don't have to.
I should've waited til after summer quarter to take 115 with a different professor. Victoria's lecture style is extremely hard to follow, as she will start talking about some details, and not finish the sentence and start a different tangent. She also skips over steps that she expects you to already know. This class made harder than it needed to be
I see a lot of negative reviews but I won't let that bias my experience. I find myself genuinely enjoying myself in her Pre-calc class and her speaking style is very entertaining, really reminds me of the short attention span tangenty styles some comedians use. This class will be extremely difficult if you have no prior experience with the topic.
You can tell that shes a genuinely nice and funny person, but she is also a really thought grader and her lectures are really confusing. Personally, her style was a bad match for me, someone who needs very clear and straightforward directions.
My biggest issue is her constantly complaining to the class about how much she has to grade outside of class time, seriously these "lectures" take up considerable chunks of time and are beyond frustrating. I started showing up 10 minutes late to avoid them and sometimes she's still berating the class even longer.
While shes an excellent person, I loathed her rapid-fire way of teaching that didnt really allow for a whole lot of questions or room to recover from a bad grade.
I absolutely loved Victoria. She was very helpful and easily accessible during office hours. I felt like she really cared about her students not only during the class, but also how they would succeed in the future outside of the class. 10/10 would take her again.
Personality wise i really enjoyed Victoria. I like the speed that she moves, but found that occasionally she would assign homework for concepts that we hadnt touched in classes yet. I wish she provided more review for quizzes/tests, but ultimately this class is absolutely possible to succeed in by doing all the homework and self reviewing content.
If I could give her twenty bad ratings I would. Moves through content incredibly fast and with little clarity. Her lecture style is all over the place and hard to follow, and her speaking pace is twice that of most professors. She feels very scattered and will talk through periods when you are meant to be working through a problem. AVOID.
Teaches using homemade videos instead of class time to teach us. Talks about life during class when we in her words cannot cram our material into 50 minute classes. Canvas set up is very confusing, prof effectively reinvented the wheel.
This class was the hardest class I have ever taken. She is passionate about the topic, but the grading was absolutely impossible and the workload was well over 8 hours a night. Although the class was meant to have 30 students, only 10 signed up, and only 4 of us finished the class. Taking this class must be avoided at all costs, please trust me.
The pace in the classroom is fast. If you have a question, she is always available to help and explain. Office hour is very good. She is a really nice professor. Recommended if you like the fast pace.
Pacing was insane within this class. Victoria would spend 30 minutes going over homework or talking about her daily life and cram a 50 minute lesson into 20 minutes. We would often have about 3 hours of homework a night, and there were often weeks with multiple projects and tests. She does have good office hours, but often made me feel dumb.
Victoria Anderson is an awful math teacher. she does not go over any way to do a math problem just expects you to know how to do it already. She was rude when i asked for accommodations and when i reached out for help because i was falling behind. I took it over the summer, online so that made it more difficult but she's a terrible teacher
Surprised to see so many bad reviews, Victoria is a great teacher. She fits everything you need to know into the lectures, and even if it means you only go over something once or twice you never have to learn outside class, only practice. gr8 class for people who think fast and get bored easily. Go to lectures, sit near the front and you'll be fine
Great professor, I'm surprised at the bad reviews here. She wants you to do well and is great one on one.
Victoria Anderson is a great professor who really loves to teach and is passionate about math. However, if you are someone who will not do well with homework every night and a 35 point test a week, you will probably get a bad grade. Fast paced class with a lot of information that requires organization skills and time management.
Victoria is so energetic and engaging during lectures and structures her class to build on previous topics. She explains how everything connects so well and I am never bored in her class. Often challenged, but never bored or uninspired.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! PLEASE DO NOT TAKE!!!! VERY BAD TEACHER
Took way too much class time talking about her dogs and personal life then crammed a lecture in. I understood the material well because I'm good at the subject, but her exams/quizzes were waaayyy harder than the homework and examples. My understanding was shown disproportionately because of this. I would highly (HIGHLY) suggest a different prof.
Victoria no longer teaches at Western but I'm leaving her a good review because she's my favorite math teacher I've ever had. I actually learned the material instead of being confused/frustrated like I have been in previous math classes.
