She does most of the work in her head so you have to figure out where all the numbers come from.
Extremely confusing, does not explain her steps at all, and when teaching a new part, she acts like you should already have known it. She is good at math herself, but teaching it is another story.
Ridiculously easy class, her study guides she gives and goes over before the tests are the SAME questions (word for word) she does on the test, except with different numbers. If you think her class is hard you should just drop out now. It doesn’t get any easier than her.
Ms Hamlin is great for Applied Calc. If you get stuck just visit office hours. She will explain it very well one on one. That's what worked for me. And follow the study guides.. Easy A if you put the proper time in to study and preparation. And yes, you are supposed to have knowledge of the lesson before any college professor lectures.
The questions on the study guide are THE EXACT same as the questions on the test, so as long as you're confident in the study guide you'll do well on the test. However, she is not a good teacher. If you ask her to clarify something outside of the classroom, she will do so, but in the classroom she is very difficult to follow.
Homework is always harder than the tests. Study guides are the same problems (different numbers) in the same order. Class is typically confusing and notes don't always help. However, she is very quick to respond to questions and very helpful when you ask her! So just put the work in and you'll be pleasantly surprised.
She understands math, but not how to teach it. Info is very difficult to understand, but if you understand the study guide, the test is the EXACT same but the numbers are different. You use a note card too. Awful professor. Easy A if you can teach yourself. My Math Lab basically teaches for her. Reads straight from board, and littleno eye contact.
You definitely need previous stats experience. Easy class if you do your work. Homework assigned each class visit, but usually given 2+ days to complete on MyMathLab. Test given after each unit (for me it was only 5). Boring teaching methods, but she has good intentions. Also, she could give some smart remarks when asking for a question.
She's a great teacher. She is always there during office hours to help and has a great attitude about it. She expects college students to know how to do the basics. DUH! She also gives partial credit on MULTIPLE CHOICE TESTS even if you got the wrong answer. Anyone who says she is a bad teacher needs to seek help instead of bashing her. fav teacher
Terrible teacher doesn't teach and then gives us online homework she doesn't even go over in class.
Ms. Hamlin has been one of my favorite professors I have had! I don't know what she has bad reviews. Math is not my subject, but she made it very easy for me to understand. However, she can be rude. There is also A LOT of homework involved. Almost everyday it is due. The exams are pretty easy as long as you understand what she goes over in class.
Professor Hamlin is a good teacher. She cares about the students and how well they are doing, and gives lots of opportunities to succeed. The pathways format really falls short in actual teaching of the material, and causes people to struggle, but that's not her fault. She knows math, is a good teacher, and cares about students. Highly recommended.
Hamlin is such a nice lady! Sometimes can come off as a bit derogatory, though. Expect lots & lots of dreadful online homework. She will help you in a heartbeat if you don't understand something! Tests are generally like the study guide, which is really nice! Expects you to work in groups and expects lots of participation. Would take again...
Awful teacher. Not leanient at all. Very boring and monotone. Would not recommend.
Ms. Hamlin is a nice professor however, when she goes over the material in class, it's hard to follow her. She teaches it so fast. She doesn't know when the class is lost, she just keeps going on and on. If you wind up having her, be prepared to use a lot of outside sources to help you.
Hamlin is awful. Do not take her for anything ever. She constantly told my class how we were F students in high school and how stupid we were. If she had actually tried to teach us, we maybe could have learned something. She hardly taught, if you consider what she actually did as teaching. Save yourself and your grade. Don't take her class.
She doesn't teach at all, assigns hw online and never goes over it. Terrible!
If you're a good student you should have no problem at all with Ms. Hamlin. I have to admit, there is a ton of homework in this class and if you can't keep up with it there is no way you can pass. She may come off as sarcastic at times but she is actually very caring and willing to help if you put forth the effort. I would take her again.
I would strongly recommend not to take this class. you will waste your money. She does not behave with the qualities of a professional college teacher. Gets into arguments with students during class. She's on her phone more then the actual students in her classroom are. Has no desire to teach. reads straight from power points. very rude.
The way this class is set up is useless. You're assigned homework that you were never shown how to do and only go over a portion of it in class. This structure makes it nearly impossible to understand the content without seeking outside help. Also the entire class is group oriented and participation is a must. Introverts BEWARE
Assigned homework online and most of it is material you don't go over in class. She will help you with homework if you don't understand, so you just need to email her. You pretty much teach yourself if her feedback isn't helpful. Reads straight from powerpoint, and goes fast.
You work in groups in her class which isn't my favorite and she does assign a lot of homework, but it's very beneficial. At first she's an intimidating teacher, but she's really great. She is very accessible outside of class, she responds to emails quickly, and she really wants her students to learn and succeed.
If you are ready for a teacher to give smart remarks, rude comments, and make you feel dumb. Then dont take her especially if you value your gpa and stress level. She will assign homework on top of homework and her test are never like the study guide. She waits until the class is about empty and two days left of class to start teaching something.
Professor Hamlins class is not an easy A and she can be a little rude at times. You must do the work in this class. There is a lot of homework, online and workbook. Tests are mediocre; the study guides help though. She will give you the chance to make up late work. You do workbook problems in groups for the entire class, which gets boring.
The homework overload is insane and very real. I had her for a night class, & it obviously wasnt her favorite. She tries to be funny but its just annoying. Shes understanding about late homework, even gives you 90% of the grade earned if its late, but be ready to teach yourself everything because she definitely doesnt.
Better 1 on 1 than in class
how about and inverse of an inverse of a inverse function? Thursday class homework due Friday morning even though next session is Monday. Plan on at least 100 calculations per assignment. Answer to inquiries are read the assignment, watch the videos.
This class is the worst class Ive ever taken in my life. She doesnt really reach anything and when she does its super confusing. If you take this class, get ready to reach yourself & have lots of homework!
Entirely too much homework given The amount of homework was so vast that it was the difference between a F and a C. If you want an easy College Algebra class, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She doesn't explain well and simply doesn't care about students learning.
Im not exaggerating when i say Hamlin is the worst professor Ive ever had. She is rude to her students, doesnt know how to teach, and assigns way too much work. For the love of god do not take her.
Fast talker, only know what I'm doing since I took AP Stats my senior year of high school and did decent in there. Almost always homework after class, and you NEED a TI 83/84 calculator or you're screwed. Lets you make up one test per semester, but must be before the next class or you get a 0. Email her all questions, expected absences or concerns.
She is very disrespectful to any student who asks questions in class. She doesn't clearly explain anything and gets angry if you don't understand the first time she explains. Class feels very unorganized. She mumbles during lecture and is very difficult to understand. She moves too quickly to not allow questions. AVOID THIS CLASS.
The professor is blatantly rude when asked a question and either scoffs, sighs, or shows visual disappointment when she has to answer it. She doesn't explain much of the content, just reads it off a slide. She is gracious with homework and there's no due date for it. Still, I wouldn't recommend her
I love math and always have, but I absolutely hated this class. She made me feel stupid if I asked questions and half the time she solves the problems on the board wrong because she can't read her own notes. She does not teach, she reads slides and expects you to know exactly what she is talking about. Save yourself the stress. Don't take her!
I am very good at Math and took two years of calculus in high school and I felt as if I knew more than she did, but that being said her class is not difficult as long as you do decent on the test and do all the homework and quizzes, the only reason I did not receive an A is because I did not even half of the homework assignments it is 15 points.
Hamlin should not be teaching anymore. She is an older lady that does not care about the students. She gives an insane amount of online homework, you can barely hear her when she lectures, and even tutoring wont help. I logged 52 hours in the tutoring lab and still failed this class. Out of 12 students, 4 dropped & out of the 8, only 3 passed.
If you are not the type who goes to every single class or someone who does homework/study everyday... dont take her class. There is a lot of homework and the content you do in class is much easier than the homework she gives you. She is not understanding of any hardships going on outside of class, and almost refuses to help her students.
If math is not your strong suite i would definitely avoid Victoria Hamlin. She goes WAY too fast during lectures and gets angry at the class for not participating but she has gone so fast that we are so lost and do not understand what is going on. Shes very snapping as well. Her explanation is poor. She is so smart she doesnt know how to simplify
I am very bad at math, but because Hamlin broke things down I got an A. She is easy to understand but does give lots of homework, this works out well because a lot of homework is online open note and can be redone until you get 100. She curves tests and her final is relatively easy. She is the only math teacher I liked at MTSU.
This professor told us if we did not score at least a B on the first two tests we shoukd drop out and reconsider. We were given homework that did nit matfh the textbook or the lectures ans the tests duffered from any study guide/review given.
AVOID HER CLASS AT ALL COST!! She made my anxiety go up sooo much!! She was my first class to withdraw from and I am a straight A student. Trust me, she is NOT worth it. Look for another professor. Her test are so hard and she does oral testing. If you have her, GET OUT OF IT AND GOOD LUCK.
She is a good teacher, and encourages questions. If you do the homework you'll do fine.
I cant say I had a great experience in this class. Professor Hamlin teaches way to fast to even understand anything. She basically reads straight off the slide and very rarely shows examples. She teaches as if you already know everything, just skimming over the lessons. I ended up doing better muting the zoom call and going over the slides myself.
Gives you multiple homework assignments each week and they take over an hour to do. Waste of my time.
I can't begin to understand how difficult it must be to teach your passion to a bunch of students who are forced to take the class to graduate. Students never showed up to class and it was revealed half of them don't even bother with the homework and some don't even show up to take the test. I brought my D to an A and I failed my first test.
Hamlin teaches the material just fine I suppose. However I feel she is disrespectful to her students. I'm a bit slow when it comes to getting things done, but I get them done in the end. On a couple of occasions she has sent me unnecessary, rude emails regarding my work ethic. I don't expect a prof. to care, but I do expect them to be professional.
I took Professor Hamlin my freshman year and she teaches as if she is talking herself through questions rather than teaching the students. You will have daily assignments for the days you are on campus. You can use an index card on all your quizzes and tests though.
Professor Hamlin just starts teaching and doesnt even explain what it is shes teaching she just reads off the powerpoint and teaches like shes working herself through the problems. When asked a question she answers something totally different most of the time and doesnt answer the actual question this makes it basically pointless to ask.
Rude and condescending. Hands down the worst professor I have ever had. She literally rolls her eyes at you for not knowing the content and claims that it should have been learned in high school. Its college level applied calculus. Will belittle you for being late but she has been late every day, even on test days!
Yeah just don't take her, wait and get someone better.
The rudest teacher I have had yet. She constantly gets onto her students for not asking questions, but she works through problems like she's talking to herself rather than teaching to the students. Once you start to retain some of it and you have a question she'll be moved onto another problem. Tests are nothing like the study guide she gives.
Professor Hamlin is unmotivated and at times is disrespectful to students. She often makes mistakes while working problems out on the board and in her powerpoint sides. Do not take her.
Rude and disrespectful to students. While she is obviously knowledgeable her lectures feel like a presentation to a room full of mathematicians not students trying to learn. Rushes through everything and will not answer your questions if she feels like she has already explained it.
DO NOT TAKE HER!! SHE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH. Her lecture are copy and paste from the book. She goes through them not teach them. PowerPoint are trash. Her tests are hard and shes always disrespectful to students when they ask questions because she does not know how to answer them. OMG if you pass her class with a C be thankful bud! Good luck
Do NOT take this class unless you can teach yourself. I have always been a straight-A student, but I spent HOURS outside of class tutoring and still struggled in this class. There is a ton of homework and if you do not do it, you will have an awful grade. Four major exams count for a large percentage of your grade.
Worst professor I have ever had. Is rude to students and just does not know how to teach students. I have been a straight A student up until her course, and am having to retake it this summer. If you get her, just switch to another professor. It is not worth the time and tears. Also the option was not given but this was for Math 1910, Calculus 1
AVOID IF POSSIBLE. Does very little to actually help you learn. The pace of the class is "how fast can the teacher solve the problem and move on to the next problem?" Doesnt do anything to make sure you understand the material beyond the initial lecture portion. Grade weight is almost entirely test based.
Hamlin was the WORST. She did not respect personal boundaries in regard to my DAC-registered disability. Doesnt care about student learning & is extremely condescending when addressing questions. lectures copied from textbook, basically teach yourself bc her back is always turned to the class and she ignores most questions. 0/10, DO NOT RECOMMEND!
a very rare unfortune situation where the professor makes an easy material class difficult. If you're gonna take this class, pe prepared to teach yourself the material, and even that wouldn't be enough.
You're gonna have to teach yourself here. She's prone to moving due dates up on a whim, and has an overall bored, disconnected, grumpy attitude. If you have to take the course and the instructor is listed as "TBA", take enough classes that you can drop this one if you end up with her. Taking a class with Hamlin is setting yourself up for failure.
She stands in front of the board writing the problems and doesn't explain what she is doing. She is simply mean. I asked for help on homework and she told me to go to tutoring. She rolled her eyes and huffed when I asked for clarification on homework. She does not know what she is talking about. PLEASE AVOID HER!!!!!!
She is extremely monotone and makes it very hard to pay attention in class. EVERY. SINGLE. HOMEWORK. ASSIGNMENT. Has 30+ questions and they're always the same thing with minor changes. Doing homework for this class might make you go insane. Even if you're good at math you could struggle with her, do yourself a favor do not take this class with her.
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! She does not explain problems thoroughly and is does not use time wisely. She did not even go over fully the study guide for a test and the test was the next class day. She rushes through problems without explaining where and how to even get the corresponding numbers. Many people I know have dropped this class because of her.
Lectures are boring, she's monotone and doesn't clearly explain what she is doing unless you ask. Her lectures are just her reading & copying problems from PowerPoint. Not the worst, not the best. Do not take her if you are not good with math or taking a harder math class. Study guides match her tests. Homework is not hard, there is a good amount.
Professor Hamlin is hands down the worst professor I have ever had. I ended up dropping her class after emailing her for advice on how to improve my grade in her class and her response was "I suggest you drop my class and retake it when you feel like putting effort into your grades because if you cared you wouldn't be failing". mtsu needs to fire!!
Do not take this class if you have other options. She faces the board and just talks she doesn't explain what she is actually doing and when you ask a questions you receive a snarky answer. Lots of homework and you will have to teach yourself. Only good thing is you can have a note card on test and if you show your work you might get half credit.
Honestly one of the most frustrating and stressful classes I've ever taken. She DOES NOT TEACH! You'll have to teach yourself. She reads off of a confusing powerpoint and never explains what she's doing when working out a problem. She seems to have a "you should already know this" mindset. Also, she'll change due dates without telling anyone.
I am seeing all these bad reviews on her which I do understand but for my class, she was not that bad. She does only go through the PowerPoints but she was always nice to me when I had questions. There is LOTS of homework that helps on the tests, but it is very time-consuming. I would take her if you have time to do the homework and to study.
Some of these reviews are too harsh. Honestly speaking, she isn't the greatest with lectures. However, her exams are EXACTLY like the study guides, she allows a note card during exams, her lectures are recorded, and you can do the hw over until you get 100%, before the due date. Also she might come off as cold, but she's actually very sweet 1 to 1.
you'll have to teach yourself, she just reads off the PPT (doesn't really teach). attendance is mandatory. LOTS of time consuming homework. A little off putting 1 to 1 but not mean. Quite passive aggressive when you don't pay attention/try problems in class. tests are like the homework. not a terrible choice if you study and come to office hours.
She is very montone and reads the board the whole time during lectures and expects you to know everything already and just speeds thru problems and leaves you in the dust. She hates answering questions you ask. The tests are usually nothing like the practice tests and homework she assigns so in the end you will have to teach yourself everything.
Her lectures will consist of PowerPoint and she will work on examples on the board. You will have to ask her questions, very available. Tests are harder than hw, ALOT of homework, dont leave it before the test. She lets you use a notecard for tests, NOT impossible to pass. Her reviews are worse than her class is, take her for the the 1810 credit.
She doesn't seem like a bad person but she's terrible as a professor. I tried to tough it out but ended up withdrawing because I didn't have the time to learn what I wasn't being taught outside of class. I'm a straight A student and can generally work with difficult classes. Even my advisor told me many other students had dropped right before I did
I was struggling through the entire class and didn't do well on the tests and final. I will say she is very clutch when it comes to curving tests and your final grade. I don't necessarily agree with her methods of teaching but she is very helpful when it comes to helping you in any way towards the end.Overall shes a decent professor
I barely managed to make an A in her class. Best advice is to show up to the lectures and copy all the work and review it after the class. She moves very fast on her work with little time to catch up if you fall behind. I would recommend watching YouTube videos on the side to stay remotely on track with what she teaches in class. Or just drop her.
Speeds through lectures as if everyone knows what she's talking about. The homework requires you to give specific answers in certain forms that aren't specified nor taught in class.
drop if u can
if you need to take time to understand problems or formulas do NOT take this class. literally speeds through the units as if you've been doing this for years. you'd begin working on unit 3.1 then end up being on 3.5 within the 1 hour of her class and she expects you to understand within that timeframe or "know this already from high school".
You will put more unnecessary hours into a GEN ED class than you will ever put in your major classes if you decide to stick with this professor. Get ready to teach yourself on all the notes given to you as she believes that you should know the material already since it was "taught in high school" as she loves to quote that.
Dr. Hamlin does care about student learning, but she is very lecture heavy. She just reads off the slides and works them out, and sometimes makes mistakes. There is also an extreme amount of homework, so be prepared to work on that.
Dr.Hamlin was a very careless professor. I struggle with this class, took study hall with a tutor, and even asked Dr.Hamlin for extra help and her reply was “I don't think you're going to pass this class”. I was not offered help as well as given no answers as to if she could help me. Test 20 questions so good luck, if you miss two your screwed.
absolute worst teacher ive ever had. 2nd week of school learning something new and she yells at us for not knowing something we were "taught in high school" (we weren't). also holy crap what is with all this homework, two assignments per class with on average 15 questions each, most being difficult. if you dont get a 60 on the final you fail period
The class was so awful that after lectures I'd sit outside and appreciate nature.
organic chemistry tutor teaches better than this "professor". All she does is reads (mumbles) from the powerpoints (not hers) and immediately expects us to know the answers if asked. Calculus I is honestly not a hard class if taught by a good professor but my goodness is she the opposite. good luck if you have to take her
Professor Hamlin is a really sweet professor you just got to actually talk and participate in class. She was really considerate with extensions on homework and giving the whole class 1 retake. She's a good professor in my opinion. The people who gave her a bad review should've took time to actually talk and get to know her.
I didn't learn a single thing in this class, the only was I got close to passing was from learning stuff on my own time. All she does is say what she's writing on the board without explaining it. sometimes she will just work out a problem in complete silence. I ended with a 69 in the class and she refused to pump my grade up to let me pass.
you will definitely be teaching yourself 100%. she goes through the slides and works the problems but doesn't tell you how to get there, then erases it, and gets frustrated when you dont get it. doesn't make sure the class knows whats going on she just keeps moving. hw was lowk absurd, tons of problems when she didnt even teach it that way shown.
IM ONLY 3 WEEKS IN AND I ALREADY WANT TO GO IM VERY GOOD AT MATH AND NEVER HAVE REALLY STRUGGLED WITH IT BUT SHE IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PAY ATTENTION TO AND WHEN I DO SHES TYPICALLY COMPLAINING ABOUT HOW SHE HAD ANOTHER CLASS OR HER RAISE ISNT BIG ENOUGH. MAY ASWELL BE YOUR OWN INSTRUCTOR.
Belittles you when you don't know how she worked something out. Makes you feel as if you don't know anything when you ask a question
Three homework assignments, one being a quiz grade, due over the weekend (one on Saturday night), with a test Monday morning. Are we serious? Organic Chemistry Tutor is the only reason I know what's going on. When asked to explain something, she doesn't really explain it and kinda just says what she wrote down in a different way (equally unhelpful)
The fact that MTSU lets her stay on the staff is absurd. I don't know her personally, maybe she is a smart person but she is not a good teacher. No time is taken in class to make sure the students know what is going on and the lectures are long and convoluted. When you ask questions she treats you like it is not her responsibility to answer.
This is by far the worst education experience I have ever received out of my 20 years of life. She does not teach. She solves math problems on the board without ever pausing or even looking at the class to see if they understand. When anyone in the classroom asks questions, we are treated like idiots and told we should already know the material.
This is the professor to take if you can focus. She does just copy the powerpoint slides. People feel that she doesn't explain well because it is difficult to pay attention in class. Frankly class is quite boring but this is where it's important to apply yourself for a bit. Lots of homework, but if you do it you'll be ready for the final for sure!
She only writes questions and answers on the board without explaining the steps, making the class hard to understand. She moves too fast through assignments and isn't accessible outside of class. Asking questions feels discouraged. Overall, this was a difficult learning experience and I wouldn't recommend the course.
The textbook was online via Pearson but the course relied on PowerPoint for each chapter. It was lecture-heavy and dull with lots of homework, crucial for boosting grades since there's no extra credit and time-consuming if not spaced out. There were study guides and cheat sheets was allowed, but you'll have to rely on yourself to do well in course.
Ms. Hamlin is not a very good teacher. Her lectures are boring, hard to follow, and overall not helpful at all. There are lots of homework assignments but because of the platform she uses the assignments are relatively easy. When she teachers she mumbles and faces the board the entire time. Be prepared to teach yourself outside of class. Good luck.
Overall, you have to come in with a knowledge of algebra that most people don't have. You're going to fail the first test or at least get below an 80%. If you do good on the first test you REALLY have to buckle down for these tests. The info is there you HAVE to study the homework. Use chatgpt to help. She will give half credit if you use calc.
Hardest class of my life. Such long lectures but didn't learn a single thing. Like 20 people dropped within the first week there was 5 of us left at the end. Just save your time a choose a new professor.
Felt like I learned nothing for the first 3 weeks I was there. Dropped the class because she expected us freshman, who many did not take calculus in high school, to already know what to do. Had her at 9:10 in the morning, hard to stay away and she was always in a bad mood. Would not recommend.
Professor Hamlin isn't the best teacher. During class most of the time is spent looking at notes a staring at her standing at the board working one or 2 problems for a whole subsection in a unit then moving on. She seemed to not care about the class and always seemed grouchy. Math tutoring in the library is the only way to learn her material.
