Overall good teacher
No Comments
Awesome teacher. She's hilarious.
Wonderful teacher. Her class is the highlight of my day. She's very good at explaining things step by step so everyone understands.
Ive never had a teacher who made the class as fun as she did...and when she taught I actually understood what she was saying...shes fair and a class that you look forward to going to...shes amazing!
I don't know what to say about her. Is she a good instructor? For me is not really. It really depends on different people opinions. Find out more whether she is the right type of your ideal instrutor.
Mrs. Scrivner is a micro-managing tyrant. At first I thought that she may be kind of fun, after all, she looks like she could be Miss Frizzle's twin sister, but the bubbly personality got irritating after a few days, and she won't let me have any freedom with my writing. She is the worst teacher I have ever had by far.
Not a very helpful teacher. Does not teach with clarity. Nice personality though.
Wow, she has this issue with her back and so doesn't show up much, which is really hard now that I'm preparing for my final. You need help, and she's not in class.
Ok teacher, but never in class. She is nice but she needs to be more clear in her work and come to class more often.
well she kinda seems like a nut case but when you get to know her she is kinda cool. not very clear though on directions. i once asked her for help and her response was 'it wll come to you'. it never did. great lady, but ive had better teachers.
I am taking her class right now and i think she is awesome! she is pretty easy going and time goes by really fast in her class. She knows what she is doing and makes it fun, while teaching you A LOT of new things, which i think are a really great way to go! and she is funny!
I'm taking her class now. English had been fun for me, in my country it is my favorite language. But I think the linear paper is extremely hard though. I like this teacher, she had great personality, she cares about her student, and she is hilarious!
she was ok, kind of weird at first but then she was pretty cool..
I took her class sometime ago. She is a great teacher, she is funny and have a great personality. The only problem that I had with this class is the linear papers. And I would really like for her to come to class more often. A couple of my friends took her class and she always skip near the end of the quarter.
she is kinnda insane, funny but insane. her helping style is diffrent. Sofar she is the best teacher i got. if you chose her class be prepared to be confused
this teacher is rediculous, on average she doesnt show up once every week and she doesnt know how to explain the material to us. We have to comform to very strange protocol on how to create our paragraphs as well, i do not reccomend her if you want to understand writing.
This professor is hardly ever here! She's gone all the time, and a sign is rarely ever posted. Be prepared to be annoyed like once or twice a week when you wake up early or actually finish a paper and she's not there. On top of it, her teaching method is confusing and it's pretty much her way or the highway! I don't reccomend her!
Eh. 'Eh' really sums it up. She's not the easiest teacher by far, but you could do worse. She was a bit... diverse in her teaching methods but I did learn some things so I suppose it worked. However, she is not very clear and half the time you would be guessing on what to do.
Always a great help and supportive of all the students needs and mines.Kept the classroom environment a safe haven for the sharing of ideas and also learning.I loved her class, I wish she could leave the grcc english dept. and join the cwu english dept.
Mrs. Scrivner's pretty fun. She likes to have fun with her students and classes are never boring. There are a lot of opportunities for low extra credit points. Homework's pretty easy. Essay's are okay. Overall, cool teacher. Not the easiest class, nor the hardest. Oh. Classes were canceled a lot because of a medical problems, so it was cool and bad
She likes to cancel class and not put it on facebook until it is too late. Very confusing teaching method. She will tell you HOW she wants you to write your essay so specifically that it isn't even YOUR essay anymore. But she is super smart with her AA w/3 minors, BA w/3 minors and a MA w/2 minors!
Mrs. Scrivner is the best prof. at Green River! She makes her expectations very clear and she is very helpful. Don't take her if you don't want to work for your grade. Even though this was not an easy class it was the highlight of my day Mrs. Scrivner made it so much fun.
Mrs. Scrivner is a great teacher, but watch out! She is extremely tough! She explains clearly and in a detailed manner, but if you deviate from what she wants, your grade will not be good. She demands only the highest quality writing, and I had to really struggle to get a B. You learn a lot in her class, but your GPA will almost surely drop.
I started the quarter not very happy with her teaching methods. It seemed too hard. Something she pounded into my head was "If it seems to hard, you are making it to hard" This is something I am going to keep with me forever. I learned through her class that it was true. She made me hold myself to a higher standard. She is extremely supportive.
Great teacher. She is very clear on how she want the essays to be like, and the information is useful for life time. As soon as you turn in all the assignments and follow her instruction on essays, you will be absolutely fine. Interesting teacher. If you want to learn, take her class.
Instructions for the class were always very clear, she doesn't mince words or make expectations confusing. Gave students plenty of time to meet deadlines. Was gone a lot but was very helpful and patient when she was around. Be prepared to work hard though!
Victoria is a super cool teacher and she is absolutely helpful. Even though I have transfered to another college, I still remeber what she taught in class. Of course, you need to work a little bit hard when you take her classes. If you follow her rules, you are gonna be ok.
It so hard for this level.
I love English, but hated this class. She assumed we couldn't write AT ALL and held our hands all the way; we had to do it her way or get a bad grade. It took me so long to write and essays never came out well because my style was stifled. Limiting sentences to 14 words for half the quarter? Seriously? Guess there's worse, but I hated this class.
Great teacher!! I am currently in this class and i am enjoying it so much! Take this class if you want a challenge, and also want to learn a lot! Really funny also :)
She's an extremley helpful teacher! Teachers like her are hard to find! She's one of the best that I've had so far. A+++
She's an extremley helpful teacher! Teachers like her are hard to find! She's one of the best that I've had so far.
She's an extremley helpful teacher! Teachers like her are hard to find! She's one of the best that I've had so far. She has a quirky personality, but she's a fun teacher.
great teacher as long as you follow the outlines and directions she gives you. very helpful and learned a lot. attending the class is critical to doing well. take her class!!
Best teacher I ever had at this school. She rocks hard core.
To begin with, she's what you want if you plan to do well in future classes. And she only requires a little critical analysis to show evidence of intelligent life. Putting in time learning the basics beats failing future classes. And remember that 10 min on google the night before beats feeling like an idiot the next day in class. Google is God! :)
Mrs. Scrivner is my favorite teacher at GRCC. I've learned so much in her class in only half a quarter and we have the most interesting, fun conversations. I love how she is always available (facebook, email) to help me out with any questions I have. Its a hard class, but totally worth it! She's fun, smart, hilarious, tough, and fantastic.
She is good at teaching. She teaches with passion but it's sooo confusing. she presumes that we do not know anything. So U better bear with that. further,She is really stingy with grade.. so if u wanna have 4.0, do not take her. even 3.5 is quite challenging.
Hard teacher. She was a interesting lecturer and prepared me well for my next english class. Just pay attention and follow her style exactly and you'll do OK.
not good teaching
She's fun. It is a harder 101 class. Constant writing and discussion. You have to write A LOT though. she can hold your hand through every essay, but only if your willing to put the effort into the essay.
U know, she's just a bad teacher that wants to controll very single thing. She makes everything is so hard and impossible to do it!!!
You'll probably either like her style of teaching, or you won't. However, she's a good teacher who will cause you to think about your writing in a different way. Her use of internal patterns may be frustrating at first, but it will properly prepare you for future classes and the outside world.
She is a great teacher! You'll do good as long as you put the effort and show up to class, she is very helpful if you ask questions. Take her class if you actually want to learn. Her patterns will make you want to pull your hair out but just hang on because it will make sense in the end.
SHE IS STRICT. I had a hard time following her rules. Everything she teaches has rules and patterns, you have to follow it, 1 small mistake and she'll take points away. But her teaching is unique and fun, you won't sleep in this class with her crazy talking.
very hard in grading. Fun class but so hard to follow her rules. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT HIGH GPA. No one got 4.0 in her class
Mrs. Scrivner is an awesome teacher! She isn't the easiest but I learned so much from her class and it was worth every minute I put into it. She is hilarious, interesting and there is never a dull moment in her class. If you're looking for an easy 4.0, don't take her class! But if you want to learn, she's the teacher you want!
Love you Scriv! Scrivner is one of the most genuine and fun teachers you will come across. Her class definately is not the easiest, but if you try your hardest she will help you get the grade you diserve.
She is such an awesome teacher! Really scary at first but she turned out to be really funny and nice. She really knows what she is talking about and I can tell she enjoys teaching. Do extra research and she'll love you forever and you'll be ahead in the class.
Do not ever do a report having to do anything with siding with religion. I redid my paper 3 times from start to finish using her redirections every time and every time she hated it. Got 4.0's in the previous 2 english classes and put in a ton of work for a 2.0. She really is the worst teacher possible to take for English DO NOT TAKE HER, AVOID.
She restricts ones creative freedom by making mandatory "guidelines" for the essays we write. Her approach to teaching is unprofessional, cursing in class is a regular occurrence, and she treats younger scholars like they cannot see past the tip of their nose. Personally I do not believe anyone should have to be subject to her antics.
She taught me how to write in MLA for ENGL 101, so I looked forward to having her teach me APA for ENGL 127. I had already taken a ENGL 128 class, but she still managed to teach me stuff about APA that I didn't know. If you follow her directions, there's absolutely no reason why you can't create a perfect 20-page paper by the time you're done.
the work required was pretty hard. Most English teachers aren't clear on their instructions whereas Scrivner is, however with that being said there's a lot of expectations from Scrivner. A lot of points will be on format so watch out for that.
By far the best English teacher I have ever had. She makes everything easy to understand and lays it all out for you. If you put in the effort in her class then you will get a good grade. If you don't like to guess about what a teacher does or does not want you to do then take her class.
Scrivner is great. I was bummed that I couldn't take English 126 with her next quarter. She is very easy to understand and her grading seems fair. Be patient with her, because her back problems sometimes make it hard to contact her. But otherwise she's a tough little thing with a great sense of humor and a lovable-crazy personality.
Scrivner has a very big personality. She knows the material well and gives tons of written instruction for assignments. However, she tends to intimidate and sometimes embarass students. If you feel uncomfortable with her in the begining, trust your feelings and change classes. Her methods will not work for some students. She is very demanding.
This teacher is very stubborn, because of this I do not recommend her. I got a 2.4 in her class being a 3.4 student, and I was dead center as far as all grades in my class. A lot of students don't do well in her class.
I had Victoria as an English &101 teacher. She's very straightforward and helpful. Attendance is not mandatory. We wrote three essays and she was very clear on what was expected. Her grading is pretty firm, but like she said, would you rather want to be done with the tough stuff sooner or later? I'd recommend her if you're actually trying to learn.
It's hard to get good grades from her and she demands a lot of things
Scrivner knows what she is talking about and makes writing essays like a formula. She knows what needs to go in and grades according to that. I have never had an instructor who made it clearer to organize an essay; it was just what I needed. Any question you have is never judged but encouraged to find what you need. Wish I had her sooner in my life
Her class is challenging but fun. She's sarcastic in a funny way. Can be intimidating. I got 3.6 in the end of the class. I think the extra credit helped me raising my grade by 0.2
Victoria is a nice teacher, but she is never a "easy" teacher. Don't take her class if you will not pay much effort on the work she gives. Also, her require is so specific. You must follow everything she requires on your work.I got 4.0 in this class. Good Luck
She is one of the best teachers i had. Wish i tooken her sooner. I would definitely recemmend her for students who wants to learn and get good grades. I got 3.4 in her class. She is very helpful and all the info in on angel learning for further information. Also Mrs. Scrivner is at the writing center for students who want further help with essay.
I suck in English writing. Taking this class was such a challenge to me but she is very helpful. She answers when you ask and she gives feedback to the students so that we can improve. I have really learned.
Victoria is tough, very tough. But she is one of the best teachers I have ever meet. She is absolutely hilarious, very strict. The guidelines she give to you might be hard to interpret. But once you understand her ways, you realize that what she has taught you in class will always stick into your brain. Be prepared.
I took Scrivner's hybrid English 101 courses as one of my first classes in college. Sadly, she had been in a terrible car accident prior to the quarter which effected her mentality. Besides that, she ran a very intense course where I learned many things. She requires very rigid essay structure detailed in the textbook. Great learning opportunity!
Scrivner knows exactly what she wants, and her rubrics/instructions are incredibly detailed. The biggest reason people fail is that they are flat out lazy and don't want to put in the work required, which is a lot. But she explains it very simply, either do the hard stuff now in a basic class or fail the easy stuff in a more advanced class.
You will be terrified of her for the first few weeks, but eventually it wears off! By the end of the course, she'll be your favorite teacher! The class is challenging but she is every clear with her instructions.
She is the absolute best teacher I have ever had, she made it fun in class everyday while teaching us. I learned more in that class than i had in my whole life. She has an awesome sense of humor and consistently brings energy to the class. I recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn AND have fun at it.
Scriv was amazing, I learned a lot in class. Do not take this class if you want to slack off and put forth minimal effort. Do take this class of you want to be challenged and rewarded for you effort. My favorite instructor so far at GRCC. If you get stuck ask for help right away! If you show an effort to learn, she will help you succeed!
If you don't mind working so hard the entire quarter and seeing your GPA drops at the end without any sort of explanation (you don't get your final paper after all), then this class is for you. It is a 101 class, English Composition, so in a way it can be described as a boot camp for English. I wouldn't recommend it for international students.
Scrivner is Highly disrespectful to her students, not clean and extremely condensing. She expects you to know things that weren't taught in Engl 101. If you don't know APA i don't recommend her as a teacher. She hasn't in the slightest bit been helpful for me. She isn't direct with her teaching or assignments at all. WORST TEACHER I'VE HAD!
Scriv is honestly one of the best teachers I have had in the sense that she really pushes you to learn. I think a lot of people forget that this is college, and though she's not going to hold your hand, is always available for help and revisions on the final paper. APA is confusing at times, however with your efforts you will be rewarded.
Strict!
T took 128. Unlike other classes, it is more intense in the beginning, because she wants to get you caught up. For the last few weeks, it's hardly any stress at all. The class is definitely worth taking and pushing through. The grading is genius. You'll get a 4.0, Just keep going, keep up with the work and you'll be fine. Don't quit on her.
she is a hard grader but she is fair! she gives various chances to gain extra credit. she is helpful. you wont't get bored at her class and she has a big heart. she is tough but she is not like one of those teachers who just dont give you second chances. she is so clear about what she wants. i learned alot from her about english and about life.
Very good teacher, loves when you ask questions, and genuinely wants you to succeed. Very clear about expectations for each paper and lectures lay out exactly what she wants from you in your writing. Also very funny and entertaining.
Very convenient since she works at the writing center
She is available to help with anything you need. Homework is clear and not hard if you don't procrastinate it. Fun class to be in, she is hilarious.
Don't take her class if you want an easy A. Take her class if you want to learn the material inside and out.
I don't even know where to begin... this class was by far the hardest class I have taken at Green River. To start off, I had to drop her class which I have never done before due to the fact that I couldn't put 100% of my time into it. I would strongly recommend taking English128 with a different professor if you want to stay sane. EXTREMELY HARD!!!
Hard class. She lays out everything clearly and easily. If you don't understand, she will try and resolve the issue. Do what she says, when she says and how she says it. Great teacher, but I only recommend taking her for 1-2 classes. No more than that. Contrary to your first impression, she does have a heart, will help and is extremely funny.
Even though I quite liked her class because I kinda like challenging classes, I would never recommend someone to take this class with her. I you are like me and took it anyway, be ready to take the hardest class you have ever taken if you dint start well in the class. but overall I'm sure I learned whole lot more then I should have which is an adv.
She is an extremely forgiving teacher, gives easy grades but so easy to the point where you learn a bit less compared to other teacher, I recomment to take this class if you want an easy 4.0. She is in an exceptionally good mood in summer so better take her in summer. Have fun guys.
She is not helpful at all. Doesn't explain things very well. Also she's just downright not a good teacher. Would highly recommend any prof but her.
I started my English 101 class and thought she would be a fun teacher, but she can also be very rude to students. She didn't really say anything about how to do the first rough draft until the day it was due, and then we found out we were supposed to turn in a 5 page RD that night. It was very stressful, but I learned a lot.
I have to laugh reading some of these comments. It's easy to tell who was willing to do the work and who wasn't. I took her Technical Writing class 7 years ago and I use what I learned there every day in my professional role. When I transferred to UW, these same skills got me into grad seminars as an undergrad. Don't expect hand-holding the work!
This class was "THE HARDEST English class " I've ever took. If you just want a good grade try to find another instructor rather than her class. But her class definitely will help your skill of writing.
Hardest English instructor ever! She was super strict with format and restricted what the students could write. If you didn't write what she asked, you would get a 73% grade no matter how good your article was. She was not very patient when you asked questions. Don't take her class!
Try find another instructor especially for ENG128. If you have no choice but to take this class, well I just want to say "Good luck". Class is very tough and unclear. She will not answer your questions most of the time, so you will need to figure it out by yourself.
Never ever ever ever choose this instructor unless you want hell's life. She likes to torture students, as she says, the water that she drinks is the tear of student. She actually give feedback on the assignment, but she will overturn her own words that she said last time. If you have no choice but this class, just bless for yourself. Good Luck!!!!
Warn your loved ones, you wont be able to spend any time with them thx to this class. Thanks to her blatant intimiation tactics, you wont remember the minute details that will ultimately determine your grades from the 3 massive essays rhat constitute your entire grade. Seriously, and i am usually a good student, but this class made me lazy later on
Extremely condescending, disrespectful and obnoxious. Did not learn anything from sitting in class, she rambles about a lot of things that have nothing to do with the course. Seems to care more about trying to be funny and witty and it was extremely irritating and bothersome. Jokes about torturing students isn't comical in the least.
Tough but teaches straight to the point and is clear on directions. No busywork, everything done in class is basically a rough draft for the final. Gives good constructive criticism and is also hilarious. People who can't take a crass joke should not join her class. You'll get on her bad side if you don't pay attention and/or turn in work late.
Scriv is awesome. The work can be tough, but she really wants her students to succeed and will go out of her way to help if asked. I appreciate how much I've learned from her class. It's helped me with every paper I've had to write since then.
Teaches APA format really clearly. Each assignment is a component of the final paper so its great that theres no busy work. Really funny and she cares about your success. Dont expect to be able to BS your papers, if you actually try you can get a solid grade.
The final grade is not good assessment
Probably my favorite professor so far at green river. As long as you dont take her sarcastic jokes to heart, the class is very enjoyable. Definitely get on her good side as soon as possible by staying a minute after class to ask questions about your papers, dont ask dumb questions, and do your work thoroughly. Very useful information too
Mrs. Scrivner was good- I took her as an online English 128 class and really liked her. She did make us work for the grades, but helped us out along the way. She phrased assignments very clearly and responded quickly if there was any sort of problem/confusion. Was also witty and had interesting assignment topics.
I found this class to be rather challenging, but the teacher was good. She made things clear about what she wants and what we are supposed to do. There were smaller papers we did that were then combined into the final paper. Also, we were supposed to do a presentation, but that didn't work out :)
Hard teacher, but you will actually learn things in this class
She is an awesome teacher with some crazy stories!
Her class has taught me a lot and helped me do better on papers because all of the papers are added up and revised into your final paper. Do not skip class and make sure to take notes to remind yourself of her lectures in class while working on your assignments. Remember to read her wiki pages for extra help and/or stay after class to ask her.
Best english instructor I've ever had in my life so far. Class was tough as hell but you surely will improve your writing skill significantly. Don't take her class if you aren't ready to put lots of effort in the class. Her requirement of the assignment are always confused at first, but you'll eventually find out how reasonable they actually are.
Bad teacher. Had her years ago. Now I am working as an engineer and 100% don't use anything she taught me. Take someone who knows how to teach actual technical writing.
Scriv was super nice and a really fun teacher but I wasn't a big fan of her teaching style. We had to write 4 essays and a speech all on the same topic, which was art history for my class. She cares a lot about MLA format and is probably a fantastic teacher if you want to major in english.
She is very nice and caring and is funny. It is a work-heavy class, not as bad as others for sure but you have to care and think about what you write. She can be a tough grader and the exam is 10 pages long. She has 3 essays due before the final that are 5 pages long and a speech that is a video and it has to be 15 minutes long. Don't skip.
I love her. She's literally the best. I came to her class knowing that getting a 4.0 would be tough as hell. She taught us APA and I'm sure it would actually be useful in my academic endeavors. Finished the class with a 3.9. TIP: If you're taking her class, the only way to get a 4.0 is complete the extra credit. No EC No 4.0
Taking her class has taught me a lot. If you are looking for a teacher that will baby you then Scriv is not for you. She will challenge you and give you an opportunity to grow. If you are ready to make an honest effort then you'll thrive in her class, that's all I have to say. One advice, make sure you go to office hours early on if you need help.
There are 3 papers in the quarter. She graded the first paper after we submitted the second paper! That means you have to write everything by yourself without any lecturing. Dont take her class if you are not ready to learn EVERYTHING by yourself!
VERY VERY tough; Scriv's class is not like any other English class I've ever taken. However, my writing has definitely become much better and organized. It's a HECK LOTTA EFFORT, but work hard and you can do it. Also: DO THE EXTRA CREDIT, IT HELPS!
I enjoyed this class whole heartedly simply because of Scriv. She is such a good instructor and person in general and is so clear with her grading. She is hilarious and kind and I would take her class all over again. The paper you have to write is long, but she grades easy as long as you worked hard at it & followed a pattern. I LOVED her.
Don't do ENG101 with her it feels like harder than ENG126. BELIEVE ME
Took this class during Spring quarter and let me tell you. She is a tough teacher and you will be stressed out. She will definitely teach you something. I promise you will learn in her class but it is a tough class. As long as you show up and ask a lot of question. That will make you feel comfortable. She is a great teacher overall!!
she gives a very specific feedback to your essay and tells you what to improve specifically.
She was having some trouble when I was in her class, so she kind of skimmed through our homework and gave little feedback. Never try to write ahead cuz you'll never know the true requirements until the weekend it's due. Not sure if doing her course will help me in the future cuz the way she thought was weird in my opinion. And, DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!
First weeks you will feel like she is the hardest professor you have ever taken. The point of her class was to be a difficult class in the beginning but as weeks go by, become easier. Make sure you show up to class everyday or you will fail. Scrivner is very structured but is open to helping all your questions. Plus, she has amazing humor.
Professor Scrivner is a one of a kind teacher. She's a different kind of person during her office hours versus when she is lecturing a class. The schoolwork that she gives out isn't a lot but an outline and three essays would be the majority of the student's grade. Make sure to do the extra credit. It brought my grade from an A- to an A. Good luck.
This class was by far the hardest thing that I ever had to do. She is really specific on how she wants things but if you ask her for clarity she would provide it to you. You wont pass unless you annoy her with emails but shes really nice in giving feedback.
Very tough
Easy class. Easy open note weekly quizzes (no time limit and can take as a group), 3 papers (gives you 2 weeks to plan and write, I finished these papers in a day), really helpful feedback (office hours are a bit inconvenient though) and funny personality. She cares about your mental health and how you're doing. Easy class in my opinion.
Ms. Scrivner is a really amazing teacher who helps all her students. Especially in an online setting, she gave amazing feedback and helped me improve my essay when I went into her office hours. She also really cares about her students and thinks about our mental health
Scriv's class was tough, but she gives very detailed and clear lectures and GREAT feedback! You have to put in a lot of effort, but if you do what you have to do, you will finish the class with the valuable skills you need for your future college journey.
Love her, she's great at giving feedback and will drop everything to meet with you if you need help. This class is project-based and is pretty heavy work-load-wise. You'll be fine if you make sure to read over instructions and watch video recordings.
Honestly, I get fooled by the previous review that said her class was very easy. IT IS THE HARDEST CLASS I EVER TOOK WHILE IN GRC.
Sign up! Prof. Scrivner is by far the BEST professor I ever had. If you're in college to learn (which I hope you are) this class is a must! I am a full time working mom, student, wife and I still managed to receive a good grade. She helped answer all my questions and ease my anxiety on everything, she's a PHENOMENAL educator and person in general.
This class is plain and simple, you are taking a whole quarter to write a 13-page essay. It must be 13 pages. However, this teacher cut it up and presents it to you in small chunks, and make it possible for me to do it. It is her GOAL to make sure you have all the tools to do it. She will sit with you in a zoom call to explain things to you.
She is very funny and makes class very light. You will write 3 papers that all follow the same format for the most part. While she is a very tough grader, you will learn a lot in this class. She does a lot of peer-editing so will have many opportunities to edit your work and learn from past mistakes.
I took her class during the fall quarter. No regrets.
I didn't really like Scrivener's class. I thought it was way too hard for an English 101. the instructions were not always clear and I was confused for most of the time while I was in her class. This class is by no means an easy A, I thought it would be my easiest class of the quarter, but it ended up being my hardest.
Scriv was funny and classes were pretty laid back. She has everything laid out at the beginning of the quarter and is super organized. She's understanding with late work and genuinely wants you to do well. Work is pretty hard but Scriv will work with you. If you put in the effort, you'll do well. Extra credit was easy and brought my grade up a lot.
She micro-manages everything you write. No matter how good your article itself is, she will give you a 73% if it's not in a specific format that she dictates, which is very vague, by the way. If you possess even a little bit of volition and creativity, do not take this class.
Scrivner was really nice and understanding but it becomes unclear after the first paper what she expects from us. She is a super tough grader and takes months to grade. I turned in my first paper in October and it is the end of the quarter and yet to be graded. I love how she gives us mental health days but there are better professors out there
First off funny and personable professor her lectures helped prepare us for the papers but she often would display a technique for writing and at the end would say "oh and this is for a B paper" and then would throw out a completely different technique in the last couple minutes of class on how to get an A, long story short nobody got an A.
Took her for English 128. Really good professor, gives good feedback. Has a sense of humor, and is really understanding about mental health. Very organized, and the extra credit is easy. However, be prepared to write a lot of essays. Overall, very good teacher, would take again.
First off, her classes are fun and interesting. You'll definitely get an A if you stick to her instructions and to make things better, she gives plenty of extra credits. Just be prepared to do a whole lot of research for your papers if you're taking her English 101 class.
Just one thing to say. Never take her online class
Professor Scrivner is a great educator who cares about student learning. While the workload can be heavy, she provides helpful feedback and is understanding of mental health. Unstuck study was a useful study tool alongside the open-note quizzes. Overall, a solid class worth taking.
I thought she was pretty great. A little bit of a tough grader (when she actually got our papers back to us), but gives good feedback. She's also really funny with the mouth of a sailor. But get ready to write, my ENG&101 class had 4 papers to write through the quarter, but that's all we did so if that's your mojo then I def recommend taking Scriv.
Man tbh she changes the whole way you write and make her own little writing style which makes no sense man. let me save your gpa and time man its not worth it.
She's very patient and a fun professor. She doesn't have a problem with repeating stuff, so don't be afraid to ask again. She has mental health days for us and she really cares about your well being. Essays were due on Sunday night, so she'd give us Monday off. She's pretty friendly and explains things really well. Definitely take her class.
I had her for English 101 and I LOVED her. She can be a tough grader on the essays, but you can always get at least a B if you follow the directions. She is hilarious and cares a lot. If someone rated her bad it's because they probably didn't follow directions (you always get a projected grade + revisions) lol + extra credit
Loved the personality in her writing. The grading criteria felt a little restrictive. By her grading standard, "Exceeding Expectations" wins full points, but "Meeting Expectations" is around 75% of points. You only receive feedback from peers, unless you request it from her directly. Otherwise, you get the rubric back.
Professor Scrivner's class was not just a course — it was art, it was philosophy, it was enlightenment. Every time I heard her voice, my brain cells applauded in joy, and every time she wrote on the board, my eyes sparkled with inspiration. Please grace my life again next semester. I would gladly take her class anytime, anywhere.
Tough grader, she doesn't deliver the topic well, taking her classes is just a waste of your time.
She was really good at communication, but she is a tough grader.
