Very hard instructor, she is so wrapped up in herself she hardly realizes she is in class. She stated she refuses to learn the students names if they want to be recognized they should wear name tags.
Lectures hardly help; read book, memorize all pictures she gives you online (artist, nationality, time period, everything about each one) go over her notes 2-3 times before test, don't take notes during class just print out from online
Lots of paperwork and "projects"... tendency to keep class over alloted time which is maddening. But if you prove you are working hard, she'll lighten up... a small bit.
She rants a lot, and she doesn't always connect with the students. But, Dr. Hull knows what she's talking about, and if you keep a light attitude, you'll appreciate her madness. She does keep students late, but notes are fully avaliable online.
She knows her stuff. It does not help that her notes are printable. She has a part of the test where 8 of the 100 show and you have to put artist name(written), title, year, artist country. Her multiple choice is vague since all there are too many names
Okay, she has a lot of info on the web that is accessable, but you still have to study. She starts late and ends late. I would not recommend her class.
She was able to turn something like art history into the most difficult class in my entire scholastic career. I wouldnt recomend her class to someone i hate.
Definitely crazy but also extremely intelligent in her subjects. This was my favorite class of the semester simply because she is so fascinating. Her lecture is a little hard to follow but if you are at all interested in art you wont mind. Studying is a must but the quizes online help.
Dr. Hull is a lovely person who teaches an auditorium class with a lot of freshmen who are really not interested in paying attn. If you like art history, don't miss her class. She knows her stuff. Ignore the idiots trying to look cool. They try to ruin it for the rest. One of my favorite classes.
Dr. Hull was a great teacher. If you like art and are interested in knowing more she definitely knows her stuff. It was one of my favorite classes last semester and I definitely recommend anyone take her. If you don't like art don't bother.
Briliant, proficient and instilled within mw a greater love for art than I thought possible. She is monumentally devoted to her field and I feel privileged to have been in her class.
she's not the best public speaker on earth, but she's endearing...let's put it that way. nice person. REALLY knows her stuff. all notes are online. moderatly easy tests. lectures are visually intensive which is nice. i reccomend it.
She is sooo disorganized. Yes, as these other reviews say she does have a lot of information on the web and uses powerpoint, but her powerpoints are exteremly random and follow no particular order. If you can take a mass of confusing information and turn it into organized notes then go for it.
Yes, she's nuts. But once I got past the feverish pacing and sudden outbursts, I realized that her passion for the subject was genuine and this actually turned out to be one of my favorite classes that I have taken so far.
Super sweet lady. No one ever comes to class and the ones that do leave early. TONS of extra credit.. highly recommend.
She was kooky!! Her tests were soo hard and contained alot of material. Be ready to study hard if you take her!
do not take this class, she rambles and birdwalks and never makes sense. there is little if no correlation between what she talks about and whats on the tests.
She sucks!!!!!
She has probably forgotten more about Art History than I could ever hope to learn. Unfortunately, her lectures are rambling and prone to lengthy and only semi-related tangents. Luckily, she goes out of her way to help you do well in her class. She has study guides online that will allow you to get an A if you study them. Her tests are pretty easy and strictly from the study guides.
She fits the stereotype of the crazed professor. But she loves what she does and talks about art with as much enthusiasm as the fat slobs at bars talk about the Super Bowl. She is a teacher for the student who is enthusiastic about art. For all others, you don't deserve to share in her genius.
She is a little crazy but all the notes are online as well as several study guides and quizzes. The class was much easier than I anticipated, and she really does know her stuff.
Chose to take this course, figured it would be better than my other choices. She is ...ummm...well shes wierd, VERY into Art. almost obsessed, BUT she knows her stuff, and I actualy learned a lot in her class without intending to. I enjoyed learning the iconography of the pieces, and I didnt know what Iconography was before I enrolled in this class

She knows her stuff, but she covers way too much material on the tests. She's crazy. She is obsessed with art. The lectures are boring and endless. The only way I passed was by cheating which is not hard at all to do.
Vita kicks ass. All these people complaining about her are total ****s. Vita is not that hard. You only have to know the century the art was done in and not the actual year. SHe is also hilarious. So I say take the class unless you fall in the category of people who complain about every class, in which case I recommend quit ****ing or drop out..
I liked this lady. She was a little different, but I really learned some interesting stuff. All her notes are online, and her tests come straight from her notes. I didn't have to cheat, but it was an easy A. Lots of open-book quizzes. This class was great.
She is a good teacher because she is very passionate about her subject. She can tell stories to make the work more interesting and does not make it harder than it has to be. You do have to study but as long as you are willing to study, you will learn a lot and enjoy the class.
Dr. Hull is FABULOUS! Really knows her stuff and loves art history. She also goes out of her way on many occasions to help her students- I never had a prof as helpful as she. Her passion for art history was the reason why I majored in the subject. Take her- she's great!
Dr. Hull is wonderful. It's obvious that she loves art hist & knows a great deal about it. She gets excited about art during lectures & likes to give "behind the scenes" info/stories on different works. A lot of students have complained about her being weird, boring, etc. Not at all! If you don't like art history blame the course NOT the professor.
The class itself was sooo boring. Dr. Hull is probably a great person and she is cheerful but I could not stay awake to save my life. If you study then you will do fine but if you care nothing about art do yourself a favor and take intro to theatre or something like that.
This professor seriously needs a life. Instead of teching from the book, she rambles about her neighbors calling the pund on her. She never really talks about the course material in any organized way. She ia a complete airhead with no compassion. My grandfather died and I had shoulder surgery, she failed me even with letters from the funeral and drs
The class was boring but I did well. She takes away points for absences even though I miss about 13 days I still made an A-. If you come up with a good study method for the class notes (which are online) and slide IDs, you can easily do well in her class. One tip I would give is to take the painter's name and work of art and google it, get a pic
Chronically late. Once showed up over 15 minutes late and, after most of the class had left, lectured anyway (and tested on that material). Always has an excuse (couldn't find parking, legs hurt, dog got out of the house, someone took her parking spot, alarm didn't work right). Mutters under her breath and laughs at it. Interesting subject.
She has taught her material too many times. She tends to skip over things. To be honest, going to class is useless other than the fact that it's mandatory.
worth taking! has a passion in art. most valuable class.
very boring class...didn't do so great on tests because she's not clear and i had no interest in it...plus i always signed the roll sheet and then left after 2 months of boredom..
Class was absolutely boring and not helpful at all. if i had to take that class again i will shoot myself. I think the teacher walked straight out of woodridge and decided to teach. The study guides did not help on the tests at all. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!
Oh my goodness. This is the worst class I have ever taken. I got an A, but Hull is awful! She rambles about nothing and wastes so much time. Our class fell really behind because all she talked about was D2L. Do not take it if you do not need it!
I haven't been in her class a month yet, and I hate it. It's the most boring thing in the entre world. She talks about D2L non stop, like we're idiots and don't know how to use it. She spent 2 weeks discussing D2L. If you have insomnia, go to her lectures, they will put you right to sleep!! I would NOT take her again, and Art History is my minor!
Rude, can't understand being sick, can't understand having appointments during lecture time. Gets angry if you mention having to miss class This class is worthless. I feel like I've wasted 15 weeks of my life in it. Exams are online, but you still have to go, after 2 absences 5 pts comes off final average. Just sign the attendance sheet and leave.
Easy class, everything's online, however lectures are snoozer's as she likes to ramble off on tangents about her trips to see such and such painting. The hard part of the class is going everyday as she has a killer attendance policy.
This is by far the worst teacher I have ever come across. DO NOT TAKE HER!! I had a 3.75 gpa before this class, I am a great student, but she makes it impossible to make a good grade. Her quizes and test are impossible to pass even with the notes and book. If you value your gpa or sanity, stay away from this monster.
She makes me laugh. She says things under her breath and laughs at herself haha. I didn't pay attention AT ALL in this class... it was super easy and everything is online, even the final. All her notes are on d2l so you don't even have to take notes in class. Its an easy A but very boring... bring other homework to class.
Vida Hull is a shame to the teaching profession. Her class is useless and you should stay away from her if you would like your gpa to stay in tact. Hopefully she will retire soon. I'd avoid her unless you're unable to.
Took Hull teacher for art history 2020. Wasn't a difficult class if you go over the notes and look over the paintings before exams. Exams were not difficult, just covered a lot of material. Rambles on in lectures and goes off on tangents. Lectures are pointless but she keeps up with attendance regularly. Mumbles when talking. Ok course, though.
If you need a gened I HIGHLY recommend something else. Even if you have remote interest in the subject she will immediately turn you off of it. Mumbles to herself. EXTREMELY technologically challenged. Take anything but this class if you want to enjoy it and learn, otherwise you can sleep here or do homework. I played video games the whole time.
Easy A, all her tests and quizzes are online. She mumbles too much, and constantly laughs at what she says. It's hard not to laugh AT her. Technologically challenged to say the least. Pointless class, I normally just sleep and do homework.
tests and quizzes online and mandatory attendence but if u show up when she takes which is, Im not sure if god knows much less her, u'll get an A for sure. Suggestions: study Image Id's and ignore every word that comes out of her mouth.
art history 2 is probably the most boring class i have ever taken. although attendance is mandatory, you can leave after she takes it and she doesnt even notice. put your notes into a word doc and just seach for the answers on the tests.. it worked great lol
Brilliant woman, I love when she rambles. These other people obviously do not like art.
ZZZzzZZ she is soooo boring. Dr. Hull talks so low you can't even hear from 8 rows up. She will complain about D2L everyday you go to class. She gives online test and that is the only good thing about the class. They are not easy test but you can manage bc they are online...Hint hint...Don't take class unless u have 2 or u are interested in Art
Dr. Hull is a very sweet lady and she is brilliant in her field. Unfortunately, her field is so unbelievably boring, sometimes I cannot stand to sit through the class. The tests are online and are easy if you (hint hint) prepare yourself. Should be an easy A, if you can sit through the semester without falling asleep and hitting your head.
Enjoyed the class. Her lectures were interesting and all assignments were posted clearly on the D2L site.
She clearly knows the material, but she gets lost in her tangents and it gets to the point where she's impossible to follow. She's a big cowboy about attendance as well, I think she complained about it every class. The course material is profoundly boring as well. Her tests are extremely easy, but unless you're a glutton for punishment, avoid her.
She spends the first 15 min of every class complaining about D2L. She forgot to come to one of the classes, although she did appologize. She does have a tendency to ramble off subject. After a while it becomes comical and I was able to filter out what wasn't course material.
Dr. Hull is very knowledgeable about the history of art and at times get very excited about what she is taking about. Many of the student that rate her take Art History only for a Gen.Ed credit so don't pay attention to the ratings. If you truly love art and are interested in it she is a great professor.
BORING! If you don't love art, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Easiest class I have ever taken. All you have to do is go to class and take notes on the lecture. All of the tests and quizzes are ALL online (use your notes and it will be the easiest A ever).
This is a very easy class. She is very nice and all the test are online. The best thing about this class is that she usually does not take role and you do not have to show up that much to pass.
Her class was so hard an confusing. She never made clear what would be on the test.
She is the worst teacher ever, she rambles for the first 30 min of class then tries to cram the lesson in 20 because she shows up 15 min late every day. She doesnt teach the material very well.
Someone buy this lady a new projector, complains all the time. never teaches, always late, tries to keep you past time every day, says "at any rate" 15 times a class period. Get points taken off for over 2 absences, tests are dumb now that they are in the new "testing center." Stay away from this crazy lady, worst teacher i've had.
I really enjoyed this class the entire semester. She is very knowledgeable and will help you with anything she can. If you do the quizzes online (super easy), pay attention to her lectures, and do the study quizzes for the tests you WILL have an A. I'm not sure why everyone's whining about her! Suck it up and do the work outside of class!
She's a silly little lady, but not a bad professor. She is known to be late to class and it takes her forever to finally start class, but she really knows what she's talking about. I really enjoyed this class and I learned a lot. I personally thought it was easy, just quizzes out of the book and 3 tests with artist identifications.
She's ok. Lectures are clear and she's very enthusiastic about her subject. Tests are pretty easy if you study and use the practice tests, as are the 7 open-book quizzes. Attendance is mandatory. Beware that she is chronically late and constantly complains about the technology (including D2L). But, if you can overlook these faults, I recommend her.
She is a wonderful professor, really knows the material and is enthusiastic about teaching it.
The class is overall easy.. no papers, no homework- which is nice. If you take the time to do the practice quizzes you will get an A. Hull is a little cooky, but she knows her stuff well. I would recommend this class.. easy A.
She cracks me up! Love when she laughs at herself. Good prof! If you cannot pass this class, you are not attending class or you are not studying at all. She knows her ART!! I was dreading this class @ first, but I enjoy it(I'm not an art major). Learned a lot from Dr Hull. Def recommended!
Dr. Hull is great. She gets off topic quite a bit in lecture, but she's really knowledgeable. Take advantage of any extra credit because I made low B's or high C's on the tests, did one extra credit, and somehow came out with an A. She's a little eccentric but I like that about her. The class was never boring to me.
I LOVED Mrs. Hull! She is a sweet old lady who is incredibly enthusiastic about her subject. She gets off topic sometimes and laughs at herself A LOT, but the class is easy. You pick the 5 online quizzes you take and they are open book. Three online exams. Everything you need is in her power points, and there are even practice exams online.
Took this class in fall 2011. It was overall an easy class, just plain memorization. Exam questions are multiple choices and they are all from the study exams so you pretty much know what to memorize before hand. She also gave a couple open book quizzes on D2L that if you do all of them you get extra credits.
Have to have the book for the online quizzes because they are about things she does not cover in class. I attended every day and took notes, did all the study quizzes for each exam, and pretty much just memorized everything. Not too hard.
Vida Hull is the worst professor i had my freshman year. I'm studious and always come to class and still found it very hard to make a good grade in her class. She doesn't teach the material in the book but that's what all of her quizzes are on. She consistently turns class into bible study, and rambles about useless info. (her cats green eyes, etc)
No offense but if you take hull's class and don't get an a your an idiot. Every question on here exams are on her Practice quizzes. that being said she does get off on tangents a lot, and she is never on time. she is a good professor though.
By far the worst class I've taken. She is a very knowledgeable teacher, but her grading is WACK! Her only grades are from exams which are 85% and quizzes which are 15%. To top it off there is no chance for extra credit. On only last section of exams are not on the study guides. If you want an easy A or and A at all, good luck.
I have no idea why people have given her such a low grade. She is very clear and knowledgeable and answers any questions you ask. If you miss class all lectures are on youtube. I wouldn't take the class if you hate art, but if you like art history it's very interesting. Her tests are SUPER easy and there are a ton of practice tests she provides.
If you get a bad grade you're either not interested or completely daft and shouldn't be complaining about a professor that won awards for her teaching methods. Best class I've ever taken. Proceless info for my career, well managed time(she's only ever at most 5min late, she is elderly)the info was presented quickly, but it's a university.Keep up!
I took this class because I love art, and I needed another elective. Out of all the classes that I have taken, this had the most workload. Hours of endless lectures and bombarded with work. An art major would struggle in this class. You view hundreds of beautiful pictures and are expected to recognize them and know their era, date, artist....
Lectures and slides are effective; the visualization helped when it came time for testing.
tests are the hardest thing I've ever taken. they don't have anything to do with the study guides or notes. she makes tests in the testing center so you can't use your notes or anything. don't expect it to be easy or you'll screw yourself. get the book.
The absolute most disorganized online classes I've ever taken, and I've had the displeasure of taking two with Ms. Hull. I'm sure she's an upstanding person, but her views are ancient. Don't bother taking her classes if you are offended by Christian preaching, as she often does. The best thing I can say is that Hull's feedback is great.
I love her. Vous avez beaucoup de chance de pouvoir suivre ses cours en ligne. Extr?mement int?ressant.
Pro - For an online class, there aren't many assignments. Just a few discussions, some quizzes, and 3 exams. You also get unlimited time on the quizzes. Cons - You absolutely NEED your book for the quizzes and exams, which are pretty tough. The questions are super specific. Also, timed exams with up to 80 questions. You MUST study for them.
