Diff Equat is one of the most challenging courses you would have to take. But Prasad makes every attempt to pass you if you willing to put your best effort into your work. Very fair and gives you assignments to help you improve your grade when you despe
Explains things very well, but doesn't offer much help when it comes to answering students' questions.
He certainly knows what he's talking about but he is very egotistical. He will publicly embarrass you for asking a question in class and will make you (almost purposely) look stupid. Asking questions in class is a HUGE mistake, don't do it.
he is just plain old mean!
Wow, the mood swings flow. Check out his ass though. It is a lot nicer than he is.
He is a little short tempered but all in all a good guy.He can act like a jerk sometimes but anyone who says he is mean is a baby.
one of the worst teachers i have ever had. He publiclly humiliates students in class just for asking a question.
Well a plus is u think the guy doesnt speak a word of english but he speaks it fluently and u can understand him... but i failed cuz i didnt pay attention
Most amazing math professor EVER!!! Not only is he sexxy, but he has a perfect teaching style. Communicates clearly and is always willing to help if you put the time in to go see him after class. I learned so much from him!
One of the best teachers ever
knows what he's doing and expects you to as well, so if you know what you're doing he'll really like you, but if you are lazy he will not care at all how you do. A good teacher if you are a good student, but other wise it will be hell for you. homework and attendance required in all of his classes.
One of the terrible prof in UML. do not take his class unless you have to.
expects his students to know everything, which is inpossible. if you dont know what you're doing or if you cannot ans his questions he'll insult you in front the class, what the ****, and he will not care at all how you do.
The WORST Professor I have ever had in my life, he deserves to get hit by a bus, if you go to his office he will make you feel like **** and he will make fun of you in front of the class, I have no idea how he still has a job, over half of the class dropped out because he is horrible, as a teacher and a person. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!
The absolute WORST teacher at U-Mass Lowell, how he has a job is a mystery, he will make fun of you, then fail you. Do not ask questions! I feel bad for you if you do, also if you go to his office, which he is never there, he will make fun of your math shills until you leave, he is very lazy and probably one of the meanest people alive.
His class is alittle dificult, but you really learn your stuff. He sometimes gets alittle frustrated but all in all is williubng to answer questions. Very clear.
Easily the best math teacher at this school...he explains the material very well and gives you answers better than "You just know" or "It's divergent". Good professor.
He explains the material extremely well. He expects you to know Calc I and II, so some students think he is mean. He's excellent.
He is hard and tough, but he willing to teach those who REALLY wants to learn. His exam is very hard. Make sure you DO the Homework, it will help you on the exam. Ask questions! !!!Yes he does make fun of students sometime, but I think he is just kidding. Ask question, because some of the homework question will be on the exam.
the worst, the problem is he never completes sample problems, and does not correct the homework enough or allow enough questions to learn the material. If you have another choice avoid him.
one of the hardest teachers ever had. He is good at explaining but thats about it. He always shows up late. He makes fun of students, makes you feel like crap. His grading system is EXTREMELY unfair because he pretty much never gives partial credit. Overall worst teacher to take, avoid him at all costs, stay an extra semester if you have to.
Very good at explaining material. However, not a very easy grader. You really need to know whats going on to get the grade. Do the homework and ask alot of questions!!
Due to late registration, can't take Pennell and when I read reviews here, thought he sucks; but, he isn't that bad at all. he's ok. He comes late every class without a fail! Grade system is ok but can be better. Don't ask questions because he asks you how to do instead of showing you how. no practice exams before exams, so just read the book, do problems beside hw and study hard
Here's what I have against Prasad. He comes in late every class without fail and than holds us back late. He also assigns a ridiculous amount of homework and can be somewhat confusing. That aside he's not bad, he's pretty helpful and tends to be a leaniant grader, as longs as you study the material your fine.
He's a difficult test grader that gives very little partial credit, but he is very helpful in class. You can ask him to do any problem and he will do it with no problem. Just make sure you at least DO your homework every day (even if you don't get a single problem right) because it's worth just as much as a test and you get 50% JUST for turning som

Not as hard as everyone says. Fully take notes and you'll understand the material. The exams are the only real difficulty in this class because they require the full class time to finish in time. Do the HW thoroughly, look at solutions manual, take notes, and go to exams prepared and you will certainly do well.
Excellent Professor. If you work hard and are willing to learn you will gain a very deep understanding of the subject from him. Take notes, He does an excellent work on the board. He writes everything out in a very clear way and at a very good pace.
Prof Prasad is okay. You'll learn a lot in class, but his grading schemes are too harsh. Not only that, but he doesn't wind up teaching you what you'll need to know for Pennell's final. I came out of class with a D (usually have A's and B's in Math classes). Learned a lot but there's little chance to improve if you mess up early.
Dr. Prasad is a great teacher for anyone with proficient algebra skills who is eager to learn. He doesn't tolerate weak basic math skills. His exams are straightforward and his grading is fair. Dr. Prasad tends to be slow at returning assignments because of a lack of TAs, so bear with him. Do the HW! He's not fond of thoughtless questions.
Had him for discrete structures 1. He is pretty good as explaining problems. But his tests are ridiculous. Class averages are around the 50's and he doesnt scale at all. Dropped after I got a 70 on one test and a 30 on another.
Professor P is great. I felt he really made the class fun and interesting. As long as you do the homework and understand it; u will do just fine in the class
As long as you do the homeworks and study you'll do fine. I earned an A and can't say the class was my hardest. He doesn't tolerate weak basic math skills, and will make fun of you if you can't do high school algebra. Easy to understand, gives a good amount of partial credit. I'd recommend him.
Stay away. 3 days absent=dropped from the roster. Class started with 50 students (20 there to fill in empty seats). Only 15 or 16 left by end of semester. He tests you on stuff he taught the day before. Takes heavy points off for stupid algebra mistake. DO NOT RECCOMEND!
Horrible! Pretty much the whole class got a D. If you like classes that you don't actually learn anything from the teacher and also like receiving horrible grades then you should take this guy.
Decent teacher. He gives weekly quizzes about what you learned the past week, but they seem to always be much harder than what he taught. When he goes through a problem he explains every step. Tests arent bad at all if you know the material. He is pretty funny sometimes too and is quite sarcastic. recommended for calc, but study and do the homework
Great teacher, you will have to earn every point in this class. He is tough, but if you work hard on homework, you will pass the course. Helpful after hour, but does not entertain sloppiness. Be up to date with class material, and very attentive to go past Him. More than 3/4 of class will drop out, and more than 1/2 of the remaining will fail.
Great professor for Calculus I. Tough quizzes, but they prepare you for the exams. This professor has a desire to ensure his students learn the material. If you have a willingness to learn he is more than willing to spend extra time with you.
This guy is pretty cool. if you do your work, go to class and pay attention you should have no problem the test aren't that bad. just have to work through it. He will answer any question you ask him will a full detailed answer. TAKE HIM and it will be an easy A
I was very impressed with this professor. I am taking him this summer, and the class finishes tomorrow. I've learned a great deal from this professor, he is fair, clear, and very invested in students understanding the material. But that doesnt mean he caters to those who don't do the homework. Thanks Professor P!
He had an attitude when answering questions he considered obvious, leading me to avoid asking anything. Exams were nothing like practice exams and very difficult, almost impossible to pass with little partial credit given. Also makes rude remarks on exams instead of offering constructive criticism. Not recommended at all.
Slides are straight from the book. Expects you to find additional material out of class so you're prepared for exams. Exams are rarely on material covered in classHW. Clearly knows his subject but is condescending when students ask questions. I will repeat what others have said: half the class will drop, half of the remaining students will fail.
He was a horrible teacher. I took him last year for calculus 1, even though i got a B+, he made the class harder than it should've been. I noticed the only students who understood him were those who already took Calc 1 in high school. People like me who never took Calc 1 were helpless, I went to the tutoring center and got more help from them.
I would take Professor Prasad again for another class. He talks down to you if you don't know basic math. The tests were easy problems but the math was challenging. I got an A by studying everyday and doing the homework. I felt prepared and got As and Bs on tests. Most failed. He's happy to answer questions in class but doesn't answer email.
He is always late for class Condescending to students making them feel inferior Truly an academic professor who doesn't understand we have other lives Tremendous amount of homework. Tests that do not match what you did for homework Very, very disappointed.
Horrible teacher. Doesn't explain the topic well and complicated everything. Also, the final is worth 60%.
All I have to say is that this professor does not set you up for success. I just don't like his style of teaching or his exams. The exams does not match the homework and he doesn't do a lot of problems on the board. Also not very detailed with lectures. I recommend don't take him if you are just an average math student or had no math background.
His lame jokes like Dont Drink and Derive that he tells you in class never fails to surprise me. Its funny coz he actually thinks they are hilarious, but no one in the class does.
This guy is one of the worst teachers I've had before. On the first test, he tells us what's going to be on the test and then completely gives us something that we've never seen before. His examples in class are not very helpful at all and he's a tough grader. So I dropped the class and I've never dropped any class before. DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY!
Plenty of homework, 2 exams and a final. Takes the time to explain how topics relate. Course feels like a natural evolution from one point to another. Completely skips over the moment generating function (thank god). If you perform well in the class and show the effort, he will be lenient with homework due dates.
Walking text book, in all the worst ways. A majority of the problems he "teaches" in class are pulled directly as examples from the books. Copies definitions directly from textbook without additional information. He claims that only 5% of students fail (two standard devs from the mean) this is a lie. A lot of people fail. Avoid if possible
Rigid grading policies. I had him for Prob and Stats. More or less teaches directly from the textbook. Grade consists of HW, 2 exams, and final. You better do well on these or else you will not pass. I would say avoid at all costs. I have known many people (around 10) who have failed this class.
He writes problems on the board, but he doesn't teach. I got a 50 on the first test and a 0 on the second test (obviously withdrew after that.) Calc 2 is the prereq but he said the assumption is everyone knows Calc 3. Copies straight from the textbook to the board, but can't explain concepts to people who don't understand. Avoid at all costs.
Copies and reads from the textbook. His writing is terrible. He writes cursive on the board and is small and illegible. I am sitting up front and still can't comprehend his writing. Often time he is not clear on what topic he is teaching. He just move onto introducing a new problem, proof, but never connects it to anything. Just avoid him.
Professor Prasad is a super boring teacher and, as other reviews have pointed out, he just does problems straight out of the textbook for the entirety of the class. Oh yeah, and he never answers email, and he doesn't give any feedback on homework assignments you pass in. He literally just passes back the homework the way you gave it to him.
Vidhu prasad is one of the only professors at this institution that makes me rethink if this university actually cares about its students success. One could argue that there may be a lack of resources, however prasad makes no efforts to overcome those obstacles. He will not provide essential feedback from any forms of work + llegible handwriting.
This professor does not connect well with his students whatsoever. He will not give any helpful feedback to help you pass an exam, and instead only teaches from the slides. "Very little partial credit" for someone who understands the concept but makes an arithmetic error. He simply does not care about his students' success in any way. Avoid him.
lectures are comprised of reading directly from the book. Youre better off looking up YouTube videos. I did not attend his class after the first test and was able to pass without his help. He is almost inaccessible outside of class and will not make study guides or practice problems. He does not care about his students avoid at all costs.
Don't do this to yourself, Please. He's rude and condescending when you ask any question. Which, id be able to overlook if he was good teaching stats, which he isn't. It's the worst of both worlds. If you have any other choice, take the other choice.
The classroom scene in Ferris Bueller is the clearest example of what Prasad's class is like. While it is nice how slow and easy it is to follow, you will quickly realize, unlike most math teachers he doesn't engage with his students or is willing to answer any of their questions. I thought Prob and Stats was a cool class, but he kinda ruined it.
Prasad is nothing more than a glorified text-to-speech. He doesn't teach, he reads the textbook aloud. He doesn't care. Shows up for a check. Grades homework by picking a few random problems and then giving you that average for the whole assignment. Tests are insanely over the top, expecting you to juggle 8-digit numbers in your head. AVOID HIM
Half the homeworks until something was said to him, he graded based on participation and only a select random amount of questions as well, meaning if I got the 2 questions he chose to graded out of 15 or so, I would get an F for that assignment
Homework assignments are graded by him choosing 2/3 random questions from the bunch. His lectures are mind-numbing and class notes illegible. Its evident that his students success is not a priority to him. Is a very harsh grader, gives no partial credit for small mistakes on exams. Your grade is greatly depends on the 3 exams.
Easily the worst professor I've ever had. Extremely rude to students who ask for help. Class consists of staring at his back while he whispers to the board and scribbles microscopic, illegible notes. Tough grader when it comes to tests and homework. 0 feedback whatsoever. Prepare to teach yourself everything if you take his class.
Lectures are straight from the textbook. Homeworks and exams are a random set of questions from the textbook (VERY few are not). It's very easy to pass this class without the professor, you just have to memorize the textbook. Gave practice exams from previous semesters. Technologically incompetent; will waste several minutes to set up.
I took this gut twice. Once was over the pandemic and he regularly fell ASLEEP during online exams and lectures. I am currently retaking the class in person thinking it would be better. Unfortunately, it is more of the same but now I am forced to stay in a dimly lit room with many other poor souls. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Not sure what all the drama is about in the reviews tbh. I'm retaking the class rn (first time was with the math dpt. chair, way harder). Prasad expects very little. you don't need to come to class or put effort into homework. you'll do well if you do well on the exams. Yes, there are only 2 (+ final), but they are from the textbook/practice exams.
This professor, is highly unreliable. He is not very fond of using technology and expect to not even be able to read his handwriting. He does not know how to use the mic provided to him, and you will most likely not hear his voice either. Do not take him, if you want to actually succeed.
Avoid this professor at all costs! Does not answer emails about questions, does not review material for tests. Only two questions are graded from his homework and if you get them both wrong you get 0 on the entire assignment. His teaching is horrendous, he writes on a sheet under the document camera and doesn't move the camera as he is writing.
Horrible Prof. I don't know how UML still has him teaching he stares at the wall and writes scribbles the whole class. Waste of money and time. Please take any other Prof.
No. It really breaks my heart to know they're allowing this dude to still teach. This professor needs to really no be teaching this course.
Tough class but don't drop. See it through. If you need help go to office hours he will always help you out if you go in person.
Our class had such a poor average that he had to give us an optional third exam, which replaced our lowest exam grade REGARDLESS of if it was better or worse. He didn't provide a practice exam for this optional exam, so naturally many people had their grades get worse. He also didn't provide a practice final exam and made the final 40-50% the grade
I'm disappointed with Vidhu Prasad's teaching style and grading breakdown. The grade breakdown in particular is atrocious. 20%HW 20%EXAM1 20%E2 and 40%FINAL! The final also consists of material he has just taught us in the last 2 weeks. I like him as a person, BUT it is VERY easy to FAIL, avoid him at all costs.
Class lectures do not give great insight or inspiration for the lecture material. There are 3 tests, first 2 were decently fair but difficult. The final is worth 40% and can determine your grade. Avoid if possible.
HW is 20% and is based on Attendance, with selected problems being correct if written in a certain way. Two exams worth 20% each. 5 questions on each exam with zero partial credit, those 10 questions are either right or wrong and determine 40% of your grade. Final is 40% with 7 questions and graded the same way.
Absolutely terrible professor, does not answer student emails during lectures he just talks to himself while he writes on the board doesn't answer student's questions properly and when i went to his office hours he told me to get out after i asked him to go over 2 problems with him. 50 percent final 20 percent hw and 30 percent exams total AVOID
Dropped his class after the first week. Very hard to hear especially if sitting in the back, and handwriting is unreadable. Exams and the final are worth so much making it very easy to fail.
You can tell he knows the subject, and he can teach, BUT it almost feels like he is tired and over it lol, the poor guy should retire. With that said, teaching is not great, unless if you go to office hrs. Boring. There are lots of HW. You will grade other students hw lol. Tests were hard, and are a big % of the grade. I think he scaled the grades.
Lectures were a bit dry but I found the textbook helpful for getting more info on the content, posts lecture notes on blackboard. For exams we got a practice exam about a week prior and I found those fairly closely matched the content of the exams. I didn't go to office hours since I had classes during them so I can't speak to how useful they are.
Wow this professor is bad. He is hard to hear, has terrible hand writing and is a very tough grader. His notes are impossible to understand, super messy and he sometimes even confuses himself when going through a problem. Terrible professor, avoid at all costs.
He is hard to hear (quiet and slow), boring lectures, has terrible handwriting so his notes are impossible to read. You will most likely need to study by yourself. Attendance is tied to homework(from textbook, it's free), one day he collects hws and another day he gives them back, and checks attendance based on that.
Does not communicate with students. Last minute notices. I'd avoid taking his course
Piling on to the other reviews that mention how awful this guy is. Lectures are him monotonously doing example problems (which he screws up half the time) without any student interaction, but attendance affects your homework grade which is 20%. I've had to talk to him to get points back on test questions I got correct but were marked wrong. Awful.
80% of your grade is exams, 12% is homework and 8% is attendance. As many reviews say, chicken scratch on the whiteboard and mumbling while explaining the work that he does on the board incorrectly, then gives up when he can't find his mistake after 30 seconds. For your sake avoid this professor, even if he is the only option. Wait another semester
Doesn't teach in a way that engages with students. I just came from James Propp's amazing discrete 1 class expecting other professors to teach at the same level. I was so wrong. You have to find every resource by yourself, and the textbook he uses is terrible for teaching prob&stats. Very slow to explain concepts to students. Avoid at all costs.
Expect boring, often inaudible lectures. Expect random mumbling that makes the lecture even harder to follow. Expect harshly graded homework, that you won't even get a grade submitted in Blackboard for until after the final is over. And expect to primarily learn from the textbook. Strongly recommend avoiding this class if at all possible.
The highlights of his lectures are illegible handwriting w/ monotone speaking aimed at the whiteboard instead of his students. He ignored an email detrimental to my grade despite me following up TWICE. Exams are worth 80%, and the final saved me since it can be made worth 50% of your grade if you bomb the other two (I did because he can't teach).
He is the WORST professor ever. Do not take him, he quite literally mumbles, stumbles, and forgets what he is doing. Late to class, does not check his email, and does not know how to handle assignments. He is living in the 80s still in terms of how he conducts his class. Don't expect to understand what he is doing ever.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. If you take this professor treat the class as if you don't have one, you will be self teaching yourself everything in the course.
Do NOT take this professor. There's no structure to the lectures so you don't even know what topic you're on and he will just expect you to know when homework is due when he didn't even teach it in class. Final is worth 40% and each mid term is 20%. You will not learn anything from him, seriously skip the class this semester if hes your only choice
The only thing Prasad will put effort into this semester is staying alive. If you're hoping to learn from him/get help from him, forget it. Every single ounce of learning I did was entirely independent. He's not one of those professors who mostly sucks but say something insightful now and then - he just entirely sucks. Worst prof in my 4 years here
