New math teacher. She will help you after class any time you need.
hard teacher u cant use calculators for the quiz or test
She was by far the most helpful and interesting math teacher I've ever had.She went out of her way to make sure her students understood the material before the tests.
This teacher is a witch. I don't like her. She has all these intense rules. Don't ever be absent , don't be 5 minutes late to class, and don't leave class to use the bathroom. I am just warning you about her. She's not very nice or has a good personality and she's kind of stuck up. If you want a good relaxed teacher please take somebody else.
the best math teacher i have ever had! yes, she can be cut throat, but she gives you the grade you deserve. she is always willing to help if u need it and she gives notes along with every SECTION that we fill out together in class. do the homework and you'll pass the tests. shes a fabulous teacher! loved her! take her if you're willing to work...
She's a hard teacher very tough..if math is not your strongest..take someone else.. if doing homework and showing up is your technique is not going to work..you need to traing your self like an atleta unless your a math whizz..She does not have people skills..not nice...i got a C in her class
At first I didnt like her, then she grew on me, people dont like her because she is very fair, you get what you earn but she will bend over backwards trying to help you. She gave me the confidence I needed, she made me push myself, no other teacher has done that. I learned a whole lot in her class, I wish she teached higher math.
This teacher is a good...she gives you notes that you fill out together in class. I have never had a teacher that gives you handouts for every section. You get quizzes every week and they help you get ready for those hard tests. she goes out n beyond to help students in office hrs. she could be a lil intimidating because she is smart..lol
She is a great teacher, she spends a lot of time helping students during her office hours. She can be intimidating, but she can be cool once you get to know her.
best math teacher WLAC have, she is very helpful.she is not like other teachers which tell you about their life story during class and at the end of the class you learn nothing. she teach you every second of the class period. If other students said she is hard that because she push you so you can learn and pass the class.
This is a great teacher who will go out of her way to help you get through Math--if you show you're willing to put forth the effort. She will not waste her time with those who are lazy or don't show up for class. If you're a serious student, take her class otherwise do her and yourself a favor and take another Instructor.
She can be intimidating, but she is an excellent teacher nd not scary at all, she goes out of her way to make sure you understand the material. I rally enjoyed her class. Do not be late to her class, she dislikes that.
The best math professor I have had by far. She shows that she cares about her students understanding the material. It is a fast paced class, so expect her to be strict with her rules so that she can keep on track without any interruptions
she is the really good. English is not my first language but helped me a lot to understand the math wery well. i got B in precalculus in her class. she understand Math and explain that wery well. she never be tired to learn you, if you don't get it she will say it again in different ways. good luck
Def. not the best explainer or test maker. calculus is a hard subject, if you dont have the time to give it your all, dont bother taking it. seems willing to help but strictly in office hrs, so if you work normal hours you wont get help. A fast but sloppy grader: doesnt take the time to show where you went wrong, etc. OK as far as math teachers go.
She explains math very clearly. Great teacher for someone who struggles with math because she explains step by step. She is a little fierce with her tone but super helpful. she moves quickly but actually teaches everything you need for following classes in a way that is easy to understand.
One of the greatest teachers i've had in my life and there are very few. She effectively explains everything and has alot of office hours incase you've missed information. Overall i rate her an A plus
Coolest math professor ever. Has character, and teaches with clarity. Very helpful. I would take her again if given the opportunity.
She is the best math professor I ever had. She explain great. Gives packages. However you need to be dedicaded for homework. quiz every thrusday. I got a B
She is a great professor and provides helpful notes and study guides for her exams. She gives quizzes every Thursday. If you can't handle someone who is ready to get busy and work, then I would strongly advise you not to take her. For anyone who has complained, you're morons and probably don't have enough self-discipline as a college student.
I took her for Math125 and she's the best Math teacher i ever had....very clear with the material, and very helpfull with her tutoring hours after class
She is an awesome teacher, shes so caring about students, if you have questions she'll answer them... and she helps us with the homework if we have questions... she does them on the board... however, she doesn't add students during the first day.
class is never a bore she is open to questions if your dont understand. Very helpful, highly rec. going to office hours,do hw, and get good grades on quizzes, she gives reviews and answers before exams! do reviews and study= good grades on exams! HW&quizzes help keep grades up. show u care and u will be rewarded
she's rude, and she'll tell you to your face whatever she wants, and she doesnt answer questions, she'll only answer questions during office hours, and she's super fast....
If you are a fast learner and strong in math, I highly recommend this professor. Otherwise you would fair better by taking Math 127 & 128. There are weekly quizzes and a large amount of homework due weekly. This professor is very rigid with her rules and will drop students that have too many absences and do not turn in homework assignments.
She's a horrible teacher. No corrections on homework or test. Her office hours are of no help. You still end up getting a bad grade. She had the nerves to say, the only way you can pass the class is if you took her class 2 times before. Her attitude is very stuck up. Please take this class with a different teacher not her.
This teacher is horrible, has quizzes every week and assigns a lot of hw and her tests are hard and make no sense, she offers to help but it seems meaningless. Don't take this teacher at all.
Swaminathan is easily one of the best math teachers I have ever had. Super clear and very helpful, STAY UP WITH THE HOMEWORK and ask questions and you should have no problem passing. I really hope I get to take her again in the calc series.
In my opinion, this professor is the most condescending professor I've ever encountered. "Staying up with the homework" is not enough to pass the class, its only worth 10%. The classroom is of no help, rather than answer questions she intimidates and avoids all questions by giving out "helpful packets." Her job is to encourage not discourage. Avoid
She's a horrible teacher. run
I honestly would not recommend this professor. She is not very precise when it comes to lectures and not helpful. She gives these little lecture packages for guidance which aren't useful. Also, she is very good at making people feel like simple-minded individuals which leads to not wanting to ask questions in class.
I took trig and precalc with her. she's a really great teacher. her class is really easy to pass if you do (and understand) all the homework. the weekly quizzes are based off the homework too so its in your best interest to do the hw. you're always open at office hours. just make you know what you want to ask before you go in.
Avoid this woman for higher math. Calculus 2 is already a challenging class but she makes it worse. No help at all to your questions, HW is unnecessarily alot that leaves you more confused, condescending as hell, and a terrible grader. If you want to enjoy math do not take her.
Keep up with the homework and do good on the quizzes since they're not that many quizzes. Also, do the worksheets and study off them because it will help. Overall, do really good on her tests since they're worth more than the department final. Her tests are difficult.
She is wonderful professor to take math. She is very forward with most of the material. Yes she is hard but you have to understand that Calculus 2 is a difficult subject to comprehend. I believe she does a great job to try and solve any questions that someone has. Do your hw and you will pass all the test and quizzes
By far the best math teacher ever! I took her for Math 125 and for Math 241 and I am eager to be taking her again for math 236. She takes her job seriously and is always willing to help if you're willing to put forth the effort. Quizzes and tests are based of the hw so it'd be smart to complete all assignments. Class is only hard if you don't try!

She is thorough, organized and to the point. Do ALL of the homework, she assigns it for a reason. Not the most approachable outside of office hours. If you have any bad mathematical habits, she will help you break them.
So much H.W that is due. Lectures are clear but did not prepare us for quizzes and test. Not an approachable professor. If you have a question during office hours you are expected to figure the problem out- waste of time. Must have a SOLID background in alg & trig. This is not a learning environment. More than 12 of the students dropped the class.
No matter what, try your best to take this class with anyone other than Swaminathan. This class is already incredibly challenging, and she wasn't of any help to that respect. She is ridiculously condescending to the point where you avoid her office hours, despite needing it. Her grading is absurd and every test is out of so few points.
Professor Swaminathan is a knowledgeable person and this helps students to learn from her. She is clear in transferring information and a fair teacher with a great sense of humor. She is a great teacher and always there for all students who want to learn.
I really liked taking Calculus with Swaminathan. Sure in the beginning she seems hard and scares students, but she does it to get students to care more about the class and work harder themselves. Calculus is a hard subject to learn. Having a good teacher helps but its all up to the students to study hard. Her tests are easier than the homeworks!!
This class was hard but she breaks everything down to the T. When you email her she will email you back within a hour or two. Office hours are good. Just do your part as the student to study hard and you will make it in the class.
She's really helpful, and she makes sure to thoroughly explain everything. I liked her teaching style a lot, she walks you through how to do things the first time, and then gives the class a few problems, and walks around and helps you figure it out. Cares a lot about her students.
I say attendance is non-mandatory, but lets be honest, it's calculus. If you don't come to class you get lost quickly. She thoroughly understands the concepts she teaches in this class, which I appreciate greatly. It allows for much greater learning. The lectures are amazing in that they explain the material very concisely. Tough but very fair.
Calculus is not my favorite subject, actually, math is something I try to avoid! Professor Swaminathan was willing and able to provide the assistance I needed for the course. You will have difficulty in this and in any calculus course if your foundation in algebra is rocky, as was mine. If you are willing to put in the work you will be successful.
If you hate math don't take her, she's amazing gives you a lot information its a tough class, but her lectures are amazing pay attention take good notes, study, and show up you'll pass. She's really nice to, has office hours if you need it
Great professor. She has high expectation of her students and moves through material very quickly. If you stay on top of your homework and come to her when struggling she's is more than happy to help. Thought I wasn't going to pass but I did.
Gives partial credit on test and quizzes. Drops the lowest test grade and replaces it with the final grade if its higher than the lowest test. Doesn't give lots of homework, and she collects it at the end of the chapter. Her quizzes and tests are straight out of homework. Do homework and you will do fine. Takes her time to explain things.
Shes a wonderful math professor
Swam. never judges her students for not understanding, she always encourages questions, she always stays up to date with the class' comprehension level (meaning in the midst of a lecture she'll ask if she's moving to fast or if there were specific problems on the test that many got incorrect she'll go over it) and OFFICE HOURS use to advantage:)
She's an amazing math professor, she's very clear and organized and she'll make sure that you understand everything
If you start to struggle in her class go to her Office hours. Going will improve math skills and along with test scores. Everything she says that is important and will see again is 100% true. She wants her students to succeed not to fail her class. If you do the homework and go to her office hours you will be passing her class. Always show up!
I really struggled in math in highschool and came in scared to fail, but material was clear and test/quizzes were exactly like the homework and notes. Enjoyed the class overall and I ended up passing ! She will help you understand the material
Professor Swaminathan is honestly one of THE BEST professors I've EVER HAD. She cares so much about her students, and really wants you to do well. This class is EXTREMELY difficult, and requires A LOT of studying , but she offers her office hours to help you out. I STRONGLY ADVISE to use the tutors in the learning center, AND use her office hours.
Prof Swaminathan is a good professor but dont expect a lot of warmth of humor from the class. She is available every day for office hours to help you so take advantage of that. Quizzes each week, four tests, and final make up the class. Its not an easy A but if you put in some work each day and stay on top of the class, you will get a good grade.
If you can't attend her after-hours tutoring, it's basically inevitable that she will give you a bad grade. If you have a low grade she will try to get you to drop the class- by the end of our semester, the class went from 50 to 12. Tests are super heavy and she doesn't encourage you to use the textbook for help. Pick another teacher if you can.
Ms. Swaminathan was honestly the reason I got through my first semester of college. Was the most kind and understanding professor, anyone can have. doesn't go too fast and can go into more depth if you don't understand a topic. she doesn't make you feel dumb and she is very caring. She offers office hours and is very helpful.
She is the worst professor I have ever had, She is disorganized and does not care for her students. She changes her mind every second and does not go through with her plan, She does not respond to students' questions politely,If you want to learn and value your grade never enter her class, BEWARE!!!!!
I have never had seen such a worst professor in my eduction time. Please don't go to her class she changes her mind every second even when the final Exam. Doesn't lease your problem and so forth. Again DON'T TAKE HER CLASS.
Please everyone trust this review. Vidya is very demeaning and harsh. She makes the class harder than it needs to be and always changes rules last minute even for final exams. This is the worst professor I have ever had. If this is the only class available to you then BEWARE. Speaks like a robot and has no sympathy for her students.
Honestly the best math professor I've taken in college. Doesnt require too much homework; finish it everyday so it doesn't build up. She prints out packets for most chapters to make it easier, quizzes pulled from homework. Office hours are extremely helpful! She really cares about her students as long as you show you are also putting in the work.
Some people are NOT meant to teach & Vidya is one of them. She doesnt care about her students. She is intimidating, rude, & unmerciful. If you arent gifted at math DO NOT take her class. She has the WORST handwriting so you wont even understand her handwritten lecture notes. She took back what she said about dropping lowest quiz at end semester.
She has a lot of patience.
In class and online was really nothing different she teaches the same in both environments. Pay attention to her lectures and you will pass. if you have difficulty with math strongly recommend taking her she will work with you to understand. textbook mainly used for homework. Tests follow the Lecture she gives.
Took her zoom classes cuz of covid. Lectures are pre-recorded and zoom calls are for questions. Have to answer discussion qs sometimes. Uses XYZ homework, and that hw was put into the grading at the end of the semester so it raises your grade. Nice to students, i guess I'm just bad at math.
Her homework schedule is confusing and overwhelming, and she moved up the midterm by a week without announcing it in class. Do not take this professor if you have a job or are taking any other classes.
I took her class during the shift to online classes due to the pandemic, really understanding professor who knows how to teach the material. You can't go wrong with her.
Pros: I personally liked that she pre-recorded the lectures by doing a voice recording while writing on a hand-out. Gives you time to pause and take notes. She noticed that the textbook homework AND the XYZ HW being due simultaneously wasn't the best, so she made the textbook HW extra credit. Cons: Math can be tricky. Ask questions if needed!
Don't recommend this professor due to how unorganized and how many assignments there are. Took two other 5 unit courses and she gives more papers and work then both combined. Makes random assignments on the fly and schedule is very inconsistent such as giving homework and quizzes on things that had not been reviewed until after their due dates.
Why is this professor's ratings not higher?! This is the best calculus class I have taken. I took this course 2 other times and failed. With Professor Swaminatan, I GOT A HIGH A! Go to every class, watch the online lecture videos, and actually do the homework!! Homework is annoying but you'll thank me later when you don't have to study for exams.
Professor Swaminathan is nice but her teaching is all over the place. She goes overtime and one time ended class close to 1:00. Quizzes and tests are off the homework problems so make sure you do the homework. Keep in mind, that she doesn't go over the sections that will be on the quiz so you have to learn by yourself. I would not recommend her.
Vidya is an awesome professor. If you actively participate, and show that you really care she will be considerate of that. There is a lot of hw but it's important to complete it as it will be very similar to the material on the tests. Lectures are pre-recorded, which helps tremendously. Has her master's in mathematics so definitely knows her stuff.
Excellent teacher very helpful. She responds to email. She gives you the opportunity to learn at your pace . Very communicative and she listens to her students. She always looking to see how she can help her students succeed. I can keep going on and on she is simply just a great teacher!
The course took a lot of work but she was there to help. The homework was not bad, she would provide lecture videos to complete hw. During class we did classwork that counted for our grade. The quizzes were not bad if you really studied the problems. She times you a lot but it isn't too bad. Truly enjoyed calculus in her class.
First, this is not an easy A. I got a B, and to be honest I deserved it. Now did I learn trigonometry, absolutely. Her approach definitely prepared me for PreCalculus and Calculus. Don't be scared, be dedicated. She really will work with you, TRUST ME! Just don't play the victim card. Nothing is free in this world, we all got to pay with hard work.
Avoid this professor's class at all costs! It's a disaster zone, no clarity, no help, just confusion. Barely passed and regretted every moment. Don't make the same mistake, save your sanity and GPA. unless you enjoy banging your head against a wall or enjoy being frustrated. Save yourself and find another class trust me, You've been warned!
Avoid taking this professor's class at all costs. She's terrible, giving zero credit for assignments because she insists on her own methods and doesn't allow students to solve problems their own way. Don't trust the positive comments in here either; she pressures students into writing them in exchange for class credit and points.
Prof. Swaminathan..is truly a Great Teacher
JUST NO. Apart from online hmwk, she makes you submit the work shown. If you don't follow "her" methods, she considers it cheating and makes you redo the work until you get full points. Even a small deduction means quizzes and tests stay closed until you get full points on the hmwk. Insists on her methods, claiming they're correct for the future.
During lectures, she randomly assigns work problems with less than 5 mins to upload solutions. If you don't upload in time, your grade suffers a lot. She doesn't care about wifi, tech issues, about the students at all and makes things difficult if you haven't watched all the lecture videos. AVOID this prof unless you want a mental illness.
Strict about using only methods she teaches. gives classwork with 5 min to upload. she drops the 5 lowest scores & you get credit as long as you turn something in. She's fair, cares about students, listens to feedback and is willing to accommodate needs by pushing back due dates. Exams are similar to classwork, no tricks.
Honestly, don't even bother taking this professor. It's just suffer. If you still choose to have this professor, just know you have been warned. Just take a look at all the thumbs down :/
This class was alright, she would randomly assign you classwork during meetings. She didn't give you that much time to submit so you have to be fast in solving and uploading the problem. She also wanted students to use her method. But I do like that she gave you enough time to complete your homework and gave extra credit opportunities.
all the bad reviews are right. none of the good reviews are even remotely close
