If you want to improve your writing, then take her class. It may be a lot of work but it's worth it. She's a very nice professor; always prepared for each class; knows her stuff; easy to talk too; very considerate.
She doesnt have a lot of control over the class she is a young weak new teacher no respect i feel sorry for her she needs to grow up and put some bass in her weak little voice, maybe that way she can have more respect
Had her for Summer I and she was an awesome Distance Ed professor. Being a veteran Distance Ed student, you know a teacher that cares about their student. She does and it shows :-)
She is a nice teacher, but she treats her classes like High School. Pretty easy grading, but be forewarned: she will embarass you in front of the class with ridiculous projects and silly assignments in front of everyone. If you are shy consider this. Also she likes to give quizzes on the reading so make sure you read the assignments. Overall decent
PROF. OUDONESOM IS AN EXCELLENT INSTRUCTOR. I AM CURRENTLY TAKING HER FOR ENGL1302. I TOOK ENGL 1301 4 YRS AGO AND WAS SCARED I WON'T DO WELL IN ENGL 1302. SHE MADE ME A BETTER WRITTER. THERE'S WORK INVOLVED - READ ASSIGNMENT BEFORE CLASS AND BE PREPARED TO PARTICIPATE. THERE ARE 3 MAJOR ESSAYS. 20 JOURNALS ASSIGNMENT ARE DUE @ THE END OF SEMESTER!
She is the worst teacher that I have met. She give too many homework. Also she is tough grader..If you want to get a good grade, never take her class. Please remember never take her class!!
A wonderful class! There is a lot of work and you will learn.I took online 1301. There are three essays, one midterm, a final and fifteen readings w/ quizes, as well as the discussion page and replies.I would definitely take her again for 1302.
this professor does not teach this on-line class. If you are a good and excellent writing I would recommended this class. She does not help you with your graded essay assignment. She would recommeneded student to online tutoring lab.
a horrible teacher. i advised everyone NOT to take her online.
Just took her class and I am glad is over!A lot to do!Very overwhelming and not an easy class. She does grade very strict, taking points for missing class, not giving too many bonus points.A lot to write for this class:journals, presentations, essays, exams. Will not recommend. It is too hard if u take other classes.
If you are a English Major I would suggest taking her as she will give you A LOT of work, quizes, test, and LONG essays for you to practice your reading and writing. Otherwise She is very strict with her grading and not very understanding at all. Very NEW teacher. And she makes all her students talk in the front of the class regularly.
10 journals, 3 essays, a couple of quizzes so READ THE ASSIGNED STORIES BEFORE CLASS. you'll have to get into groups, discussions so be prepared to talk in front of the class. Extremely nice and understanding, accepts late work!! =) but she grades really strictly.. :( recommendable if you're willing to put forth the effort
I took this class online, it consists of 12-13 quizzes, a midterm, a final, 2-3 explicit assignments leading up to an essay, 3 20-50 question exercises mostly about citations. Her grading deducts major points for unimportant things rather than for important things. If you find a better teacher, I would do that. But, she's not the worst teacher
wonderful teacher i had her for english 1301 and 1302 and now eng. lit with her.
OMG! She is awesome. She makes you work hard but it is all worth it. You WILL learn to write by the end of this class. Lots of discussions. If you want to learn, take her class. She is not easy teacher...BUT your hardwork will pay you back. Remember to ASK her when in doubt about what she expects you to do. I recommend her!! TOTALLY!
This teacher is awesome. I was very nervous in taking English. Ms Oudonesom will make you feel comfortable.I did not know how to write a paper, but you will learn in this class. I will be taking her for 1302. She is GREAT!
This Prof. is not as easy as her ratings list. If u notice the good ratings are for Eng 1301 the intro to Eng. She is a very hard grader..she picks on the least lil so called error in her eyes. Becasue she works you so hard..u learn a lot ..but she is not easy at all. I got a B in this class and worked overly hard for it. I deserved an A by far.
Decent teacher although she gives people who don't work too much slack. It's an English class so be expected to to alot of writing and reading. Have decent expectations of what's required of you and you'll be ok. Keep up with your JOURNALS!
GREAT TEACHER! Had her for 1301 and really wanted her for 1302. She actually TEACHES & you will LEARN without getting frustrated. She's awesome! HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER
She is a very nice professor. She is also very helpful. Just do your assignments and you will pass with a decent grade. Taking her and you will not regret it!
You will have to read the most boring fiction ever written. If i did not love reading I would have given it up after this class. She could have picked better eassy.
She is a very biased and selective instructor. I suggest not taking her if you have any medical conditions. She is selective on how she informs individuals of missed work, assisting students, and grading. If you speak with her about a mistake you feel she made she will not admit it and put the blame on you. A very bad trait of an instructor.
She Need Help you do her wrk and still fail!!
She grades pretty harsh. She's nice but gives a lot of work. Overall, she's alrite.
*I took the online course* I hated English in-class classes and needed a humanities course, Intro to Fiction is EASY. You'll need the required reading book every week. But the class is worth it. Discussions every week, midterm & final & two papers - may seem like a lot but it was all easy. I thought she graded fair and easy for an English course.
I can honestly say ,I hate this class. I feel like I am on a scavenger hunt. Don't get me wrong she is an excellent professor, just a task master. I took her for 1301 DE, there was hardly any breathing room. She treated a 5 week course like it was a full semester. I will be extremely glad to be done!
Professor O gives a lot of work for a 5-week DE Summer semester. She grades fairly, but works you hard: 3 essays to write, about 10 essays to discuss, a midterm, and a final. I am glad I stuck with it, but I do not recommend taking ENGL 1301 in 5-weeks unless you have plenty of time to study and write.
Ms. V is one of the beat teachers ive had. I took ENG comp 1301 & 1302 in the summer 5 week session and she does pack a heavy load, but does explain the material very clearly and concisely...especially when you engage her with questions. Three essays, a midterm and a final and intermittent quizzes along with a presentation on the third essay.
This professor is very enthusiastic and wants to help you learn. She seems to genuinely love her subject, and she is willing to help you get your grade up. She responds quickly through email and teaches material in an upbeat manner. I enjoyed her and learned a lot
Very hard teacher if your a weak student
Great Professor. As long as you turn your papers in on time and they make sense you will make an A.
Ms. Oudonesom is a fair teacher. She is kind and personable and she is interested in the success of her students. The coursework is difficult. Several essays, 2 weekly discussion posts over interesting literature. Must use textbook. Grading is fair. Tons of grammar work to do. It takes a lot of time but it is helpful and fun.
Great professor! willing to help her students. She's kind and she knows her materials well. Good grading too.
Took her for summer course. Easy, helpful, and nice. NOT A HARSH GRADER, as long as you do your work and go to class. Missing class is bad, you miss a lot if you dont go.
She is the BEST English teacher! Everything we did was online, so no need to buy any supplies. Asian & GREAT english. Her assignments were very interesting and easy to do. I got As on my major essays, midterm, and final exams. She curved some too! Funny, VERY SWEET, and lay back. Like any class, you just need to do your work to pass.
I literally worked extremely hard for this class only to get a "B" at the very end. Even God knows i worked for this class. If you are interested majoring in English, take her, if not, i wouldn't recommend taking her. She is a very hard grader. She grades punctuation, grammar like crazy. Had I known.....
She explains everything and makes the requirement clear. For the essays she grades really fairly. Not a tough grader. She gives bonus points on everything. She is also really nice and kind and answers every question that students have.
She is overall a good person. She talks a lot, drink a redbull before class. Essays and assignments are very easy.
I highly recommend Professor O!. One of the best English professor at HCC SpringBranch. She explains everything very clear and helps you a lot....
She gives lots of bonus. Fair grader, helpful professor. Gives clear criteria. We had reading quizzes and they were easy.
The class itself isn't hard. She assigns 3-4 essays and she gives you online readings for quizzes. Overall her class is easy and she is very helpful.
She is a good teacher, helps students a lot, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND her!!! She puts all textbooks online , you don't have to buy , very thoughtful teacher.
She is a harsh grader, as others have mentioned, which is fine by me. Nonetheless, specific issues I had with the class pertain to the poor level of clarity on the syllabus. Writing assignments were not mentioned. It was very difficult to reach the professor outside of class.
Professor O is a solid choice! Attendance is mandatory as she does give pop quizzes. If you are a good student and stay on top of your work you will get an A fairly easily!
In all honesty, the grade I got was due to my own poor decisions. The class itself isn't very difficult, you just have to spend a lot of time revising your essays. Grammar, especially, is an important topic and a big part of your grade on essays. Make good use of the writing lab. Also, I would not recommend for ESL students.
Don't Take her class ! She doesn't Give chances to any one ! pop quizzes every single day and a lot of reading that would waste your time , and she grades very harshly and never help anyone with the grades ! So disappointed
I took this class during a summer semester, so my opinion on there being lots of homework might not be relevant for some people. I felt that the grading criteria was very fair, and if you take notes, listen to her lectures and ask questions as they come up then you should do fine. I appreciated the time she put in making comments on rough drafts!
Means well but is a very Passive aggressive teacher. Not clear on instructions and all over the place with organization. If possible take a different teacher.
I would never take her classes ever again
she has an excellent teaching style, if you do the work she will be very fair with you and help you in areas your lacking.
She was a pretty good professor. Not really a hard grader. There are 3 main essays and a presentation on your last essay as the final. There's written work in class, weekly quizzes on readings, and other homework. As long as you do your work, you should get a good grade.
Professor O. is a great professor. She is creative and makes her assignments fun. However, her being a tough grader is an UNDERSTATEMENT! There were few moments I felt a little discouraged, but I noticed my writing and vocabulary skills improved tremendously. Thank you for everything! )
Very tough grader. Took days to respond back to emails, same happened on canvas. Every day quizzes based on 2-4 pages readings (which are about topics she is passionate about). She is kind of passive aggressive and gets annoyed if you ask more than 2 questions. Honestly won't be taking her class again, it was too much work for English class
i have her for online english 1301. shes pretty good. she doesnt give as many assignments as lots of people make it seem. gives clear instructions. interesting readings & discussion posts. great assignments overall, 3 essays. we've had more extra credit opportunities than quizzes, which is great. i would def recommend the class if you like to read.
I'm an A+ student, but I've never been in a class where I have to study up to 8 hours daily only to fulfill SOME of the homework and still not have time for another class, I only had 2 classes then. If you ask her to go easy on you, she'd say: "I'm sorry, please do your best, this is life.". if you take this one, don't take it with another class.
The reason why I got A+ (97.92) in this class because I studied ALL WEEK LONG, more than 12 hours a day! it was never enough for her though! if you want to take this class, I suggest you take it alone in a semester, not with any other classes, or you won't make it !! she is very demanding, doesn't care about your other classes, and a tough grader.
Clear directions and a clean online layout. She was nice and very helpful with setting students up to go to tutors. The pacing was sometimes weird but manageable.
dont take her, simple as that
The reading materials are simple. There's a total of 3 essays and a final PowerPoint project. Her instructions can be a little confusing at first. My only issue with her was she took forever to grade some of the work. The workload isn't overwhelming. Overall it's a simple class.
Get ready for the tough grading. It was a completely online class and we have an essay each week Too much work for 8 weeks of class
She's a sweet teacher that truly cares about students. She explains thoroughly how to do everything. There is other work to do but you have to do 3 major essays and a final presentation.
Don't take her class. This professor is a tough grader and gives lots of essays
Prof. O. is very kind, helpful, and patient. I didnt like the class itself. There are 3 essays and weekly quizzez. I didnt really learn anything in the class but that could just be on my end. If you need a professor thats caring, patient, helpful, and has great communication- i recommend prof. O. Attendence IS mandatory
THere are 3 main essays. Too many assignments and content to cover. She gives very clear insturctions which is good and communicates alot.
She is very kind and gives very clear instructions for the assignments. For this reason, she is very picky when grading and takes points off for details. There are 3 main essays during the semester that are worth a big part of your grade and weekly quizzes about assigned readings. Accepts work turned in late but with a deduction of 10pts each day.
Professor Oudonesom is a great professor. I took her online for ENGL 1301 and I received an A in the course. I'm telling you, this is a very easy course if you do the work ahead of time. She gives plenty of extra credit quizzes that you can retake and it's used for your 3 major essays that you'll have to write. If you want an easy A plz take her.
I took her in Spring 2023, and she was the best professor I ever had. She would make you write 3 major essays, 1 PowerPoint, and do a lot of small homework on Canvas; but your final grade could be improved through those tasks. She didn't teach you to write, but she would help you if you had questions. However, she graded very slowly.
Took her English online course. She's a good professor, but a lot of times her instructions weren't very clear and she takes forever putting in grades. 3 major essays and one final Powerpoint and she grades easy enough. Would recommend just get ready to not see your essay grades until the end of the semester.
If you are an ESL student, I highly recommended you to take this class, because she is very caring and always making sure that you are following class instruction.
She was okay and gave extra credit oppurtunities on all essays, but had in class assignments each class that are graded and cannot be made up if you are not present in class.
Professor O was so great for creative writing. The assignments were so straightforward, and how she was going to grade you was clear. If you follow instructions, it helps you out. This is a writing course so there were 3 main writing assignments, but they are spaced out well to give you time to regather your thoughts before writing again.
Professor Oudonesom is a very kind, patient, and caring professor. She cares a lot about class participation, and gives very good feedback with students on assignments. Very understanding with her students as well.
Be ready to focus on every little detail, as even minor mistakes can result in a 0. If you encounter computer issues, she will not be understanding and will hold you responsible. Assign around 15 assignments per month, she may add new ones without prior notice so check canvas often. I do not recommend taking her if you want to improve your writing.
The class has a heavy workload with unexpected last moment assignments. There's no writing feedback, so it's best for those who love writing without needing help. Strict guidelines must be followed or you get a 0. Extra credit is essential to pass. Be sure to have good handwriting, you'll be writing on paper often in class screw your grade over.
This class comes with a heavy workload and no writing feedback, so it's best for confident, writers wanting no learning. The grading rules are strict, missing a guideline can mean a zero. Extra credit is basically required to pass. Also, expect to write often by hand and study hours on the readings that end up being used for less than 10 mins.
Overall an okay teacher, just don't expect to learn. This course has 3 major essays and a presentation (If you fail to do one, you will fail the course) and over 20+ handwritten in classwork. When she says drafts don't count towards your grade, it's false, it counts as a major part of your final draft. This class is for people who love English.
This class had 3 major essays, all connected to a topic you choose at the beginning of the course, and a PowerPoint presentation at the end where you explain your topic. I didn't learn much because the teacher didn't give any feedback. The class was okay, but I wish she cared more about the students. She often comes across as passive aggressive.
Before taking this class be sure to be friends with her, she tends to grade based on how much she likes you. She doesn't care about your classes and gets passive aggressive. This class has 3 major essays and a powerpoint, expect no feedback or help and just to be graded and the grading rubric gives no info what you did wrong and she won't tell you.
3 major essays and a powerpoint, miss one you fail and even though she says rough drafts don't matter, they do, they count as 25~ points. She often comes off very passive aggressive for tiny questions asking for help. No feedback on anything this course will not teach you. Expect to study, 10+ readings that aren't used much but worth so many points
She gives no help or feedback. She's unclear with instructions and gets annoyed if you ask questions. Rough drafts count even though she says they don't. Lots of readings and pop quizzes. Grading feels unfair and harsh and she doesn't even grade until the last day. Would not recommend.
Love being confused and stressed? This is the class for you. Too much quizzes, unclear grading, and no feedback on any assignments. Ask a question? Expect passive aggression. Rough drafts “don't count” but actually go towards your final grade. Be prepared for 3 essays and 1 PowerPoint expect to follow each thing she asks for or you will fail.
I wanted to improve my writing, but this class made it tough. The workload is huge, and the professor gives no helpful feedback. She comes off cold and isn't approachable. You have to be perfect from day one or risk falling behind. Wouldn't take again.
The class is more about surviving than learning. 3 essays, 1 PowerPoint, tons of readings, and handwritten work. Good luck there is no feedback, strict grading, and no room for mistakes even if you take the extra credit. She will not care if you have a huge work load from other classes. Be ready to teach yourself.
Please don't take this class if you have any conditions she doesn't care, I tried asking for help or feedback because she always avoided it by bringing up my grade. For her PowerPoint be sure to make a costume based on the essay you pick, that's how I barely passed. Don't expect grades to come on time she will grade the majority on the last day
Please don't take this class if your learning English for the first time, I wish she provided me feedback when I asked her constantly but she's always brings up something unrelated, be sure to come everyday because the classwork could be the reason you fail.
I had serious computer issues and couldn't submit assignments on time, even though I had the work done. I explained my situation, but Prof O didn't care and gave me zero anyway. Being low income made it worse with no flexibility or compassion. Felt like she punished me for being poor.
The teacher was okay, but I didn't learn much from her since she never gave feedback. Most of the time, I improved my writing by using HCC Upswing and working with tutors there. They actually helped me grow, unlike the class itself. Just don't take her if you want to learn. (writing this because it's a grade for my high school).
Be sure to do the reading quizzes and as much extra credit as possible because it's really easy to fail this class with one bad essay grade, During peer review sessions be sure to have your essay or she will give you a 70 without warning, I wish I took another professor because I didn't learn anything due to her not giving any feedback.
I barely passed this class because the huge amount of work load Prof O puts, although she gives unlimited attempts for quizzes and acts nice sometimes those quizzes don't do anything to your grade. The essays can easily screw over your grade, she puts everything through turnitin. She also limits you to only get sources from HCC databases.
She was a great teacher and taught us everything we needed to know about any assignments. Would take again 100%.
