Interesting class, good instruction.
One of the best acc teachers I've had. The class is not easy and you'll have to work and study to do well, but Karan is very thorough and helpful! You'll actually learn stuff. Highly recommended.
class was easily the hardest one ive ever taken,, your most likely an mba student if you take it so make sure you have some time to study,, he is a good teacher but the material is extensive,, study the homework and you will do fine-the exams are the same
Beware. He may smile and seem sweet in the begining, but his tests will kick your ass!
you won't understand him half of the time, because his voice is so hoarsed, and his lecture is so boring n straight from the text powerpoint. exams are tricky, and nothing like his lecture. bad prof to take for this class!
Do the online practice tests & the problems that he gives you in the book-they help (especially for the final). He is difficult to understand and boring overall-bring your own powerpoint handouts to class to take notes on.
Karan knows his cost accounting. He's a good teacher, but he grades hard. No curve...no sympathy. So, take notes, don't miss class
This course is so pointless. Karan teaches it as good as anyone could. Grade is based on 2 exams, 1 comprehensive final, 3 small Microsoft Access Projects, 1 individual research paper, & 1 group assigement which includes a PP presentation & paper. This class is not hard to pass just very boring.
Nice teacher. He knows his stuff. Difficult class if you are not into computers and databases. Hard exams. Learn how to use MS Access before taking this class.
He is pretty straight forward in terms of his teaching. Focused on Access and Excel. Also has a group presentation at the end. Makes his statements sound like questions. Tough to understand sometimes and not always the nicest guy.
Great Teacher. There is a lot of studying involved but he is very sweet and approachable. Do the homework and you'll be fine.
One of the easier Acct 307 Professors, be happy that you got him. And learning MS Access before you take the class is definately not necessary, so dont waste ur time doing it. VJ will teach you what you need to know in class, just take very detailed step by step notes on what he does. If u want an "a"; read book and b very familiar with hmwk.
I don't remember any thing from that class, cos I was asleep most of the time...!! Karan is really boring, to the extent that you lose him after 2 minutes of starting the class.
Great teacher. If you want an A, you must know the homework and classwork backwards and forwards. There are no tricks, you just need to know your stuff and study at least 10hrs for each test. Very straight forward tests. He might curve a little but don't count on it. Grade in class: A (after 2 tests).
Dr Karan is a VERY NICE PERSON and approachable. He is willing to help you with questions you may have. In this graduate course THERE IS ALOT OF WORK and he is critical on presentations. He has take home final exam (2006) and grades on spelling as well. I must warn you tho- there is alot of work in this class.
I don't like him. I think he teaches good, but he made the exam unecessorily hard. I lost a lof of points on the conceptual questions, and those questions don't help in the real world. Some students who had bank questions can do well in his class since they will not losse points. He did not return my grade cards at all.
My favorite accounting teacher at Fullerton. He knows the material very well. His class is well organized and structured. His exams are fairly hard, but if you study you'll do very well just like any college class.
He is a very good teacher. The class is very structured and he really sticks to the schedule. If you dont show up to class you will not do well on the test. The test are very hard. He moves throught the lecture too fast and its hard to follow him sometimes.
His tests are challenging and he sometimes lectures too fast. That being said, you have to do the assigned HW, do extra practice problems, and attend every class meeting. If you don't do any of those three, you will not pass the course. If you do all three, then he is not as hard as many people make him out to be.
Attend every lecture and pay attention. Study lecture notes and practice quiz will get you an A. He's not as hard as ppl say. I didn't do any homework after the first one. All I did is number the steps when he demonstrated so the notes did not look like a complete mess, especially calculation are jumping back and forth.
This professor was our substitute for Hoth. When Hoth left a month into the semester, Karan made us begin from the beginning of the text, so we were rushed a bit. Now for the real rating. Karan's class is pretty hard. The hardest part is that he is VERY messy on the board. His lectures are out of the text book's chapter questions.
He know the subject very well. I think he's a great teacher but he should have given us a break since Dr. Hoth didn't teach us anything for the first 5 weeks. Karan took over and rushed without any consideration. He didn't really lecture, only went over the problems. acctg 302 is only beginning class but Karan taught it like a 5oo level class.
The best Accounting professor I ever had. Very knowledgeable and very easy to understand. He is always there whenever you need him.
Prof is very knowledgeable of the course and he demonstrates the easy way to understand the topic. He's very organized person. A lot of topics are covered in the course, however, just make sure you do your hw and understand the lecture well. He will go over a lot of exercises which is good. Touch class but payoff at the end!!
The best accounting prof. in CSUF.
Difficult to understand at times, difficult tests, goes through examples at lightning speed. He only gives 3 examples for exam review, and then gives nothing close to them on the exam. Final also supposedly has exact probs from previous exams, but he completely changes them. Don't underestimate him - it will bite you in the behind if you do.
omg this class is hard. Karan has a tendency to rush through the problems in class, sometimes he is difficult to follow. I suggest doing ALL of the homework, go to OFFICE hours, and take detailed notes @ EVERY class and u should be ok.
Very good at teaching the material. Gives open book/note pop quizzes and collects some of the hw. STUDY for exams b/c he teaches the stuff one way in class & then uses test questions that are much more advanced than what we learned. Curve not stated on syllabus, but obviously used b/c I passed! Not the worst professor I've taken.
Very good professor. A lot of studying and tests are somewhat difficult. Just understand all homework problems and quizzes and you will do great. I definitely recommend him.
A great cost professor. Study and you will do very well. Very nice guy and he is very patient. Go over the hw problems in depth and you will do great.
This is one of the best cost accounting profs at CSUF. His class is HARD - do not underestimate the difficulty of the material. You must study at great length, do the homework, and attend class. While this class is difficult, it will definitely prepare you for upper division courses like ACCT 401. Remember, anything worth doing is not easy.
Cost accounting is hard - period. This guy might seem intimidating at first but if you go to office hours or just ask frank questions in class when you don't understand something, he will make it crystal clear. He doesn't waste class time, a lot of material is covered but it never seems like he's rushing. Remember, no one can pass without studying
He is a good profssor and makes the material understandible. Exams are still difficult.
Very nice professor.he's got the knowledge and knows how to teach too. very clear and makes the subject easy to understand. He is very helpful and won't move on unless the material is understood by everyone.I will take other courses with him, exams are difficult, and need a thourogh understanding of the subject.3 projects, challenging but rewarding.
This is a hard professor to take for Managerial Accounting, but then again the subject matter is not a walk in the park either. He does not do a great job of explaining the concepts in class, but if you go to his office hours he will help you better understand it. There are only 2 midterms and a final exam. If you study and show up you'll pass.
This class is very hard. The material, BUT this is the best professor to take it with. His exams are exactly the same as the HW problems, I got an 87% on the first exam, and around 70% on the second two exams and he gave me a B. Very nice guy, show up to class so he sees you and sees your trying, he curves big time. DO THE HW PROBLEMS!
OMG This has got to be the hardest class I have ever taken!! If you're in 510 and you think that's no walk in the park, beware of 511. Though I think, Prof. Karan is the only prof you should take this course with. Very approachable and certainly knows the subject matter. His smile is very encouraging too!
I got a B in ACCT511. But, I liked his class so much, I signed up for ACCT521 as one of my electives and got an A from Karan finally! He is perhaps 1 of the top 2 professors in the MBA program IMO. If you're not afraid of hard work and real class discussion, take Karan's classes. He doesn't blow smoke up your butt like most CSUF professors do.
One of the best accounting professors I've had. Teaches hard topics clearly and there are no surprises on the exams. Highly recommend this professor
Took him over summer, be prepared to work! You have to learn everything and stay on top of the class. He covers material quickly and thoroughly, while focusing on book examples(provides answers). His explanations are clear and easily comprehendable. 2 MTs, 3 Case Study Papers, Final cumulative. The man knows his stuff and expects you to know it too
Very organized, very clear. The workload is a lot but necessary to learn the subject well. Very nice professor. Will take him as long as he teaches.
Extremely large amount of work especially if taken over the summer. 2 three page essays due every class period, in class midterm, group paper and presentation, individual paper and presentation, and take home final paper. Yeah lots of stuff. But extremely good professor and a class meant to challenge the thought process of the student.
Honestly, the material is straight up hard. I would say the material is the hardest in 300 lvl acct class. But prof Karan is a very nice person who is willing to help you. His lecture is very organize, and the key to success is to pay attention! Quizzes and hw will boost your grade. 2 exams (15 mcq, 5 problems) and 1 final (50 mcq) take it with him
There is a lot of material to cover in this class. He mostly goes over math problems in class, and he expects you to cover concept by yourself. He explains the material very well in detail. Class is 2 mid 1 final hw/quiz open book. The first midterm so far was 20 mc half concept half math (60% grade). 3 math problems with partial credit.40% grade
Great Professor; has a genuine interest in student's learning and has a clear teaching style. 2 midterms, 1 cumulative final, and 3 case studies. Do the homework every week and do it once again before the test. Pay attention to the lecture. There are no tricks on the exam. You MUST understand the concept.
2 Exams, 3 Cases, 1 Cumulative Final. Don't be fooled by his pleasant smile, his exams are hideous!!! You must read & do homework to have a chance of succeeding. Do homework TWICE for higher probability! Exams are not like homework, they are 1 level harder!! Must know concept!! Cases take at least 6 hours to complete. Cumulative Final is hideous!!!
Believe me when I say this class will occupy your mind, each day, throughout the semester. Dr. Karan makes the subject harder. You will need to put a lot of effort and time into this class. Do homework on time and do homework a second time before exams. Case studies consume a lot of time. Final is a beast! Karan is not easy and he expects a lot.
Pleasant demeanor and soft spoken. However, as poster below said, don't be fooled by his smile. He looks nice and pleasant but his exams are polar opposites! BUYER BEWARE!!!
VERY CHALLENGING! The case studies took me days. His test a fair but difficult. You can't just know the material, you have to master it in order to do well.He is fair and very clear but moves quickly. Learn the material prior to class and attempt all homework or you will for sure be lost in class.Loved the class, learned so much.
ACCT 302: Most accounting students usually have good studying habits one might expect to do well. His quizzes are open note/book but...DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE and Exams are on another level! Reading material/ lectures do not correlate subject is difficult enough. Be prepared to begin a serious relationship with your cost book...and redo the homework!!
Not a nice professor. Not willing to explain the materials for students. Quizs and tests are hard. The workload is heavy and he is helpless. This guy doesn't know how to teach. He makes the class harder than it should be.
Professor Karan is a very nice person and he explained the materials really well. Cost accounting is probably the hardest class in 300 level, and the textbook makes students very confusing; it's not the professor's fault. His exams are hard, but he usually curved the exams.
He looks really nice and he gives you points (neutral feedback) for your home works which makes you think you are doing great but then gives a very low grade for your final. His nervous coughs during the lecture makes the lecture impossible to understand. He is also very biased. Don't take him if you have other options.
This class is HARD. His quizzes are open book/open notes but don't underestimate the level of difficulty; always keep up with the homework!! First test was easy, the second was HARD. The final was easier than I expected. His teaching style is OK, but I wish he was more interested in our success than referring us to the tutoring center for help!!
He is a very smart professor and knows material very well. The textbook is very confusing and I barely used it. He explains better than textbook. So, it is very important to go to every class because his lecture is very clear and helpful. Highly recommend this teacher.
Nice man and a good teacher. While this is a VERY TOUGH class, he is always willing to help. Do as many problems in the book as possible; he posts the answers. Tests and cases are tough and time-consuming. You won't finish if you don't know what you're doing. If you work full-time, I recommend you take this class by itself during your term.
CONS: 6+ hr. Case studies, hard Midterm, excruciating Final, Unforgiving professor. PROS: Not much.
Took this class during summer and got a B. Midterms and final were based on both multiple choice and written problems. Open book quizzes were all problem based (no multiple choice). Lectures focused on practicing how to do the problems. Never used a ppt during class. Do the homework! It was infinitely helpful for the test. Highly recommend him.
Homework and pop quizzes are totally at different level. First test is super easy. Second and final will be brutal. His voice a bit low. If you don't like sitting in the front row, then you must pay attention in class. He goes over homework before each test. Must read the book and understand the materia. Attend his class frequently then you'll pass
This class is a nightmare. Be prepared to study all day everyday! The professor basically goes through homework problems every lecture. I found it hard to follow at times and he didnt always explain where numbers came from. 2 midterms and a final. All short answer. Very difficult. You need to know the material well to at least get a C in the class.
He is not a good professor for cost. He only solved problems and didn't lecture at all. You must know all materials before coming class. His tests are tough and not easy to follow him in class. Take someone else if you can. I got a B+ but not recommend him. Good luck to all .
Cost is a hard class! None the less, Karan teaches the way accounting classes should be taught: teaching a lot of problems in class and at home to practice. Take great notes, because I promise that he really does teach everything in class (I.e. reading can be less important but it always! helps). Think of the class as a bunch of templates. #advice
Not recommended , he did not lecture at all. He is not a good prof to explain . I agreed cost is one of the toughest one but his way made it even more difficult than itself . Take someone else if you can. Tests are super hard , cummilative final .
Just do yourself a favor and don't take with him t all! By far, worst professor I've ever had! Doesn't teach at all and have the hardest exams ever! Makes the course much harder !Don't recommend him at all!
GET READY FOR A WILD RIDE. He's a very nice man who know his stuff but he can't teach it. He just "reviews" stuff every class that you should have self-taught beforehand - doesn't work. Tests are BRUTAL, case studies are long/tedious... he doesn't curve but kept saying he would. Hardest class I've ever taken. I hate that it's required for an MBA :(
Toughest class I've ever taken! studied immensely and learned the material really well only to receive a C. insane amounts of homework. People did horrible on the tests because he doesn't give study guides and the tests were pulled out of a test bank so unrelated to class work. He is a good teacher but he goes over way too much material
Need to read the chapter as he only does practice problems during class. No lectures. There's homework but he randomly collects. Pop quiz usually on the last chapter you just finished. 2nd exam was the hardest. Final was 50 mc. He curves depending on how the class did and it's at the end of the semester. Make sure to go to SI, it helps.
He did not lecture at all. All he did is solve problems and you don't know anything if you dont do hw before hand. Test were so hard and ppl did so badly. Avoid him if you can. I passed his class with a B but I don't recommend him. He is not a good lecturer. He is nice but his way is not help much in class.
Nice person. If you ask for help, it's there. The class is kinda clear. exams are not that hard as long as you study the questions he teaches in classes. But his pop quizzes are not easy. you only have 10 mins to solve a problem. Overall, OK but a little hard.
This class was so hard. Hardest acct I'v ever taken at CSUF. He randomly collects hw and gives a pop quiz (open problems/timed) almost every week. I kept up w all the reading and hw, and studied so hard to barely pass this class w a C. Exam avgs were Ds and Fs. Beware he does use C +/-. Seemed irritated when students asked questions.
Take another one if you have a chance. He is not good in lecturing. He just solve the hw in class. So confused. Don't recommend him.
He gives out a lot of pop quizzes, but will count your top five. Also randomly collects homework. Biggest thing is that he does curve your grade. I got a D on the first test, and C on the second. Don't know what I got on the final, but my final grade was a B-. You have to study like crazy.
I'm still very split on this professor. I learned a lot in his class (he always asks, "so what does this mean?"or "why does a manager worry about this?") His notes are very clear, straight to what you need for the tests. He doesn't collect hw or require attendance, but both are a must to pass. But without test notes or curve, this class is rough!
This is my favorite accounting professor at CSUF so far. I learned many valuable cost concepts by attending his lectures, practicing homework, and preparing class work ahead. His quizzes are very similar to the classwork that he has taught you from the previous lecture. Tests are based on review and quizzes. The final is super easy if you study.
You could barely understand his lecture especially with his deep voice. Simply solve the problems in class and does not tell you how he derive certain numbers. This leave students having to refigure the whole problem. For exams MC calculations are done in 1 or 2 step and working problem ranges in difficulty. Quiz are easy open notes. AVOID IF U CAN
I think he is super nice and helpful. His class may be challenging but all the tests/ exams are exactly like what he has reviewed in class. And it is an accounting class, of course extra practice is needed. There are 3 essays, they are all applied theories from what you have learned in class with more analysis required.
Possibly the best professor in Mihaylo. Dr Karan's amazing whiteboard notes get all knowledge points organized. He is always so nice and helpful. Took it in Summer. So 1-2 chapters per day and Accounting everyday all day. For each chapter, took 2-3 hrs to read first and 2hrs to do homework after class. Review often so you won't lose your way.
The professor knows the material very well and he teaches techniques that make the subject less difficult to understand. The subject itself is not easy, so attending lectures and practicing assigned exercises are must to do well in the class. I thought his grading was fair. Sit as close to him as possible; his voice is unclear at times.
Professor Vijay is very nice when you talk to him during office hours and ask for help. However, he has an accent and is very quiet when talking. Combine these two, and I really couldn't understand what he was saying all class. Professor also tends to solve problems without clearly explaining where numbers came from or formulas.
Would not recommend. This was by far the hardest class of my college career. He simply does problems from the book the entire class, but doesn't explain where any of the numbers are coming from. No participation from the class because everyone is lost the entire time. I had to teach myself the entire course. Hard quizzes, hard exams, hard hw.
Not doubt this class is hard, be ready to read before the class, and get familiar with problems that will be done in class. Professor Karan is super knowledgeable on the material, makes exercises easy to understand, and wants you to use your critical thinking. He is preparing students for their career not just to get a good grade.
The class is almost half lecture and half practice problems. He tends to move very fast through the problems and skip some parts of the math; so If you have any questions, ask him when he's still on the topic. Overall enjoyed the class and he is very carrying. Go see him if you are confused on anything and be prepared to work for your grade.
This class is hard and Mr. Karan does NOT make it manageable. He is negligent and could careless if you are not understanding material. He goes SO fast. There were 8 people in the class RE-TAKING it, and the tests are not in the same format as the homework. For case studies he just picks grades out of a hat, you will never get 100%.
Vijay Karan was a pretty solid teacher. He expects you to have read the chapter before coming to class, so he doesn't spend a lot of time actually teaching much. He spends most of the class going over examples from the book. I feel like he did a great job explaining how to do things from the practice problems. The homework helps a lot on the exams.
This class was one of the toughest accounting classes Ive taken. I went to SI which helped SO MUCH. Karan spends a lot of time doing problems but doesnt tell you where hes getting the numbers. Do the problems he covers multiple times, read the book, and go to SI. The pop quizzes are tricky, so stay on top of everything. Decent curve at the end
