Dr. Garg is very friendly and you can tell he wants to help as much as he can. The only problem is he explains things in a more complicated way than need be. His exams sometimes have trick questions. The only way I passed this class is by reading the book.
Awesome teacher. He's hard because OChem is a difficult subject. He takes a good amount of his test questions from the powerpoints but the tests can still be hard. I easily got an A using the powerpoints and doing the practice problems from the book. I would recommend him to anyone.
Garg is amazing, period. He explains difficult material in a clear and concise way that all levels can understand. He offers tons of extra credit, drops low quiz, drops low exam.Do online HW for added boost in grade.I took Houtchens downtown and received a D, I re-took the class with Garg and received an A, that should say everything you need to know!
Garg is difficult to follow because of his thick accent and he acts like he's the god. Not organized at all.
Garg is amazing. He is so helpful, explains everything, and cares. I never had to use the textbook because his powerpoints have everything you need to know in a clear and concise manner. I would definitely recommend him!
He's an awesome professor. Really hopes to see everyone succeed. Practice from lecture is not enough though, you need to go home and read over what you learned as well as do book problems he assigns on his syllabus. Pay attention to main points and don't study unnecessary material. He's the best Ochem professor I've ever heard of. I recommend him!
Dr. Garg goes at a perfect pace that this class needs to go on. He is extremely clear on what you do and do not need to know for the exams. His PowerPoints are also very clear and easy to follow. I definitely recommend taking his class!
Dr. Garg is a great professor. He has an amazing knowledge of the subject and does a great job at explaining it thoroughly. Most of all, he wants each student to succeed, and will help you out individually if needed. I recommend this class.
Organic chemistry sucks but Dr. Garg does a great job explaining the material. He has detailed slides that follow the book exactly. Easy homework points with unlimited tries. His exams are hard, especially the final but he is very helpful after class and during office hours. He does not take attendance and also has a generous grading scale.
Dr. Garg is an asset to ASU. His knowledge of organic chemistry is remarkable and he knows how to convey the vast information in a simple and understandable manner for students. His grading and exams are very fair and he really cares for his students. Looking forward to his organic chemistry II class next semester.
Organic Chemistry is by no means an easy subject, but Dr. Garg is an absolutely brilliant chemistry Professor. Not only is he super competent, but also clear and concise in his presentations, smoothly demonstrating and ingraining lecture concepts into your mind. His workload is also very well balanced. Take him if you wish to LEARN as well as LIVE.
Dr. Garg is extremely unhelpful and expects you to praise him all the time. He is delusional and keeps talking about how he should be given the best teacher award.
Dr. Garg is one of the best chemistry professors at ASU. He is very passionate about teaching. Make sure to attend classes to absorb material and then practice it at home.
Dr. Garg is very intelligent and knowledgeable. But he's not a good teacher, he's tried to help, but still doesn't answer questions. That's not his fault though.
I actually enjoyed and learned organic chemistry in Dr. Garg's class. He goes at a perfect pace, gives pertinent examples, helps you if you are stuck and guides without giving away answers. His problem sets are really helpful for exams and quizzes. Take him if you want to learn Ochem and get a good grade.
Dr. Garg is a fantastic teacher. He was always helpful, and SO knowledgeable in Ochem. It's a tough subject. A lot of extra time must be spent memorizing reagents and reactions to do really well in his class. He requires a lot, but puts in a lot of effort to make things clear. TAKE HIS CLASS.
His tests and quizzes are hard but he prepares you well. I always felt that when I studied well I got an A on the test. Just study like you should and you'll get an A.
Garg is an amazing professor. His accent is only difficult for the first couple of lectures. But he is awesome, he has practice problems during lecture that he goes through which is a big help. His exams reflect the practice exams and he drops the lowest exams. If you do all the 5 online quiz (get 2 attempts) and the online homework you'll pass
Organic chemistry II is a tough class no matter who you take it with. Dr. Garg is a phenomenal professor who makes this subject bearable. He gave group extra credit assignments, review sessions before every exam, and he'll drop your lowest exam score. You have to put in the time for ochem, but he goes above-and-beyond to help his students succeed.
Dr. Garg was a fair (if not generous) grader despite his tests being fairly difficult, but that's going to be true for any Ochem class. He made it easy to succeed with a generous setup with homework and quiz points being easily achieved and extra credit plentiful if you show up to class. I would recommend taking ochem with him.
I've taken Garg for ochem 1 & 2. It's very tough material but he makes it easier (I think). LEARN YOUR REAGENTS - make them your best friend. I went to sleep thinking about them. Spent 15 hours or so studying for each test. Ended up with an A-. Only A- so far (the rest are A's). FORM A STUDY GROUP. He crams alot in each lecture. TAKE HIM.
Dr Garg is a great teacher. Be prepared for lots of memorization and studying. Organic chemistry is a HARD class, but Garg lays out the material well. Do all the group work for extra credit and form a study group right away. I took Organic Chem 1 and 2 with him and I would take it with him again!!
Dr. Garg is likely the best chemistry teacher I've had in my schooling career. He covers basics and the background of a topic before getting in-depth, ensuring everyone understands before moving on. He gives ample examples as well as some jokes. He is respectful and very knowledgeable on most any chemistry topic.
This is O chem. If you study, you will pass. His instruction is great. He explains all the concepts very well, and tells you what to expect. The tests are hard, but if you study, and go to his review sessions, you can do it. You can review all lectures online, and that is helpful.
TAKE O-CHEM WITH HIM, you will not regret it!!! I had to retake this class after initially failing it at the downtown campus. He does not go super in-depth with the material but you will still learn a lot and your GPA won't be ruined. Notes are very straightforward and easy to follow.
Dr. Garg is an awesome professor to take OChem with. He is clear, and always there to help. He really wants his students to succeed. I highly recommend taking his class!!!!
Dr. Garg takes a challenging subject and makes it tolerable. He is very clear and straightforward, he knows most people only take this class as a premed requirement. After his class I was tempted to change my major to Chemistry.
Dr. Garg is one of the most talented professors at ASU. He is really helpful in and out of class. He provides numerous resources for practice and extra credit worksheets in class. Organic chemistry is not easy but Dr. Garg will help you to succeed. I recently took DAT and aced it because of his class.
AMAZING PROFESSOR. He makes difficult material understandable and the grading curve is basically impossible to fail. 85% and above A. Assigns homework and online quizzes which are there to help your grade. He also records his lectures and posts them online. Just be sure to put the effort in to this class. It was definitely a hard class.
Very very nice and helpful, his lectures and notes are amazing I'm using them for my DAT test. Lots of extra credit, respond to your emails right away. Funny and respectful. If you miss a lecture no worries he records them and post them to the blackboard. Nice grading and he curves.
Dr. Garg really cares about his students. I took this class over the summer and was one of the best experiences at ASU. Small class size helped in one on one interaction. His lectures are well designed with problem solving strategies. He was always available to answer my questions. I highly recommend summer class with Dr. Garg.
Practice, Practice, Practice...... Do the homework, go to class, study for the test, do all recommended problems, make flashcards and form study groups. Go to SI if you can. You have to score a prefect score on every exam to receive an A+.
Dr. Garg is awesome and he teaches in way that is easy to understand. You know exactly what to expect on his exams.
I went into Organic Chemistry having received B's in Gen Chem. I thought O Chem would be the same result, if not significantly harder. I ended up getting an A in the course; Garg is a great professor who is very knowledgeable in the field and is very helpful if you are lost. I would recommend going to lecture even though you don't have to
HE'S AWESOME! Presents all the material in a way that is super easy to understand. You will get at least a B even if you're really dumb. He's extremely patient and will stop lecture until everyone understands. Getting an A is not hard, just pay attention in class and do hw's. Taking him again for CHM-234. He also give out extra credit.
Dr. Garg is the best chemistry professor I've had so far. The content is tough, but I feel his class is extremely fair. He is helpful and always finds a great SI who is also there to help.
Dr. Garg is a phenomenal professor, who sincerely cares about his students. The class is TOO easy in my opinion. He does such a good job explaining everything, that very little effort is needed outside of class. Makes for a super easy A. Anyone seriously looking to take the MCAT should easily get prefect scores on his exams.
wouldnt change a thing. Great professor. Great teacher, I doubt you will find a professor that could teach a class like this any better. Top notch, gives you every opportunity possible to succeed. Genually cares about his students success.
Dr. Garg is awesome. He drops an exam and gives extra credit. He records his lectures and posts them on blackboard, which is extremely helpful. You wont find a better ochem professor.
Dr. Garg explains the material very well. If you go to class, do the practice questions and exams he posts then you will do well in the class. It is still a hard class, but Dr. Garg ensures you have what you need to understand the material.
The GREATEST professor ever!!
Very easy class, I took ochem at downtown before and you had to learn everything. At poly, he only wants you to know the easy stuff, he skips the complex structures, which is so good! Take him!
Dr. Garg is easily the best OChem professor at ASU. Attendance is optional, he posts all lectures online. Class consists of 3 exams and a final, and 11 HWs, Quizzes, and Group Works (one per chapter). Lowest exam, HW, and Quiz is dropped. Extra Credit is on all the exams except the final. 85% in the class gets you an A-. As a teacher he's incredibl
HE IS THE BEST OCHEM TEACHER ASU HAS. If you go to Temple or any other campus, go out of your way to take him at Poly. He dumbs this subject down. Class lecture with examples are helpful. Gives a bunch of practice problems similar to test questions and SI sessions are super helpful. If you practice all the stuff he provides, you will get an A
Dr. Garg really cares about his students. He is very professional. The best part is all of his lectures are recorded which is a godsend when you work full time and go to school full time. Is a very nice grader and gives partial credit on exams. His exams are half multiple choice and half fill in. Recieved low scores on exam (60's) and still passed
Dr. Garg is an amazing professor. I have always had difficulty with Chemistry, never passing a course the first time, and receiving a C was as much as I could ever hope for. Dr. Garg explains everything very well and makes sure you get lots of practice. Even if you don't do well on the tests, you can still receive a good grade in the course.
Dr. Garg is the best professor I've ever had. His lectures are so calming and that's hard to say for a lecture on Organic Chemistry. He teaches the material in a dumbed down matter, without being demeaning, so it's easy to understand and he takes the time to go over the more confusing material in the course. 20/10 recommend!!!!!
Garg is amazing!! Yo take his class. If you don't, you missing out. He's seriously the best fo real fo real.
Dr. Garg is a very quiet and respected professor. His simplicity and calm nature may/ not exactly appear to make himself approachable at first, but from experience, definitely go in for help when you don't understand him, as he was way better than the SI was trying to do this semester. Exams hard. Study for exams and study groups for higher grade.
Dr. Garg is great! He makes organic chemistry interesting and does a great job simplifying the subject. He records his lectures and posts them on blackboard. This course can be challenging at first but if you put in the effort and study your reagents, you will do well. I highly recommend taking organic chemistry with Dr. Garg.
Dr Garg is the best for Ochem! was too scared of taking ochem at first but the way he explains the material and all the resources he makes available to you will help you pass the class. He passes up to 10 points of extra credit in class. Although exams make up most of the grade, if you study his slides and notes then you are guaranteed an A!
He is an amazing instructor. He makes the material interesting and related it to medicine, which I like! There are extra credit opportunities and minimal homework. The exams are challenging sometimes, but it's nothing you can't figure out if you be sure to actually study the material. You can't drop it and pick it up later, expecting to do well.
Dr. G is one of the best professors I've ever had. OCHEM is hard, but he holds your hand through it to make sure you understand. He uses real-world examples that engage students like med/drug synthesis. He won't make you feel like your questions are dumb and he is very patient. He considers different learning styles and sets you up for success!
I have taken a lot of chemistry classes and this professor is the only one that made it bearable. He is an INCREDIBLE teacher. Its lecture heavy but he does a bunch of examples and makes the material very digestible. There's group quizzes and homework with unlimited attempts to boost your grade, plus he curves everything. Best chem professor ever.
Organic Chemistry is a hard subject to understand and he does a great job translating it to his students. Very understanding respected teacher
Garg makes a difficult subject easily digestible. Lectures are dry but he dumbs the material down so that an average student can understand it. Test are difficult but he adds in extra points and is a very kind grader. I don't think that he ever counted a problem completely wrong on any of my tests, always gives some credit to an answer. 85% gets A
3 Midterms and drop the lowest. Midterms were ok, but Final exam is EXTREMELY difficult!!! so be prepared.
BEST OCHEM PROFESSOR EVER!!!!!!!! I always thought organic chemistry would be a very tough subject but Dr. Garg makes the subject very easy to understand and provides plenty of practice material to help you succeed. You can easily get an A if you make sure you understand all the questions from his practice reviews and practice exam!
Very organized professor; lecture slides very-well summarize the confusing book material. Soft-spoken, but VERY funny (humor that catches you off-guard). Laid back, not barky like other science professors, and extremely patient and understanding. If you show up, show you care, and put in the work, you're pretty much guaranteed an A.
Third time taking basic OCHM (I know) and this is the best prof by far. He is understanding, clear, funny, and provides extra credit in class. I will be taking him again for Part 2. His grading is more than fair which makes the class far less intimidating.
Very well planned and thorough lectures. Garg's explanations make lots of sense, but it's not a Garg lecture if it doesn't run 5 minutes over. Fantastic professor.
Dr. Garg records his lectures which is super handy. The level of difficulty is much higher for ochem2 but as long as you understand his learning checks that's what you should expect to be on the exams. You will not pass his class without actually studying. Sometimes he curves exams if the average is very low. Passing with an 'A' is very doable.
His lectures can be very monotone so beware of that. His exams are pretty difficult and his quizzes are SUPER tough!!!! Most of his lectures he explains them well but when you start getting into harder topics you start to lose him.
You can still pass his class with a C with a 58%. His grading scale is ridiculously curved. If you cant pass his class with an A or B, you didnt try hard enough. Yes ochem is a tough subject but his powerpoints give clear direction and his learning checks are exactly what will be on the exam. He curves the tests and gives a lot of extra credit.
Prof Garg takes his time during lectures and goes over material well. Extra credit is available a few times during the semester. SO MUCH HW! The hw is ridiculous; 25 problems per chapter 250 problems and its all just worth 45 points for your grade. Overall, he is a great teacher and very fair. Don't let the hw scare you.
Dr. Garg is a really great teacher and you can tell he loves teaching organic chemistry. All lectures are recorded and attendance isn't necessary. Tests are 80% of the grade, but do not let that scare you. His 3 exams were very fair and taken from the lectures, however beware of the final. However, he does give you everything you need to succeed.
This was a rough class!!! If you spend 3 weeks prior to an exam to study HARD then you should be fine. I would make an effort to go to him and ask how to do certain questions off of his examples so that you can actually do the exam. I would make an effort to memorize the reactants and mechanisms because that's what this semester is all about!!!
I am beyond happy that I chose to take Dr. Garg, he is the best professor I've taken! He cares about his students. I am sad that there are no other classes that I can take from him. You will not regret taking him! His lecture slides are not full of words like other professors. He has examples of similar problems that you would see on an exam.
You will not be dissapointed with Garg. He's not the most animated lecturer which might be the only dissapointment but everything about him is gold! His lectures are all simple and everything you need is in the lectures. Homework is not bad at all. You'll still have to work for it but there's a reason why he has such good reviews.
Took 233 in spring '19 got an A, after w/d from Gould in fall '18, and took 234 in fall 19' and got a B+. Very fair grader, I regret not taking him to begin with. Be sure to understand his checkpoints in lecture and pay attention to anything you learn about trends, he loves to test about trends. Be sure to attend SI as well they help! Take Dr. Garg
Professor Garg is absolutely phenomenal! I REALLY struggled with the transition to online learning when Covid hit but he handled it better than any of my professors did. He worked with me time and time again and spent multiple hours making sure I understood what was going on which requires a lot of patience! ! would take him time and time again!
I had Dr. Garg for CHM 233 (A) and 234 (B-). His lectures, group work, and study guides do a great job of preparing you for the tests, but you still need to spend quite a bit of time just reviewing and studying. In my opinion, 233 was more problem solving, and 234 was more memorization, so be ready. Nevertheless, Dr. Garg is a great O-Chem teacher.
Awesome professor! Very clear and concise lectures, lots of material but at a very manageable pace. Happily answers all questions in and out of class, cracks jokes during lecture, clear grading and generous curve. I'm bad at CHM and was scared of o-chem, Dr. Garg structures class so that if you put in the work you will pass, overall great guy!
Professor Garg was such a good and caring professor! He made material very easy to understand and has a flipped teaching style which I really like. To do well, READ the corresponding sections in the textbook before class and make sure you understand how to do each group work! If you do those things you should do well in his class.
Wonderful professor with straightforward lectures on an incredibly challenging subject. He is accessible outside of class and responds to emails and questions quickly. Hard subject made easy by this professor and I still feel like I learned the material.
This class was supposed to be in person, but, due to Covid, it ended up online. Professor Garg did ok teaching online. A lot of the lecture was to be watched outside of class time and there was group work during class time. The exams were a little difficult.
Dr. Garg is a very caring professor. He has all his lectures pre-recorded and posted, so attendance isn't mandatory. Exams are multiple choice. Ochem 2 is hard and I have had a really hectic semester, but he curves the exams so I am at a B right now. If you stay on top of the work and don't fall behind you will be okay I promise!!
Made ochem as easy as ochem will ever be. Lectures were clear, he was very patient and receptive to questions. One exam is dropped and you can get partial credit on the free response questions.
Overall Professor Garg is a good teacher. However the material is not interesting at all. This class consists of two group assignments and one homework assignment due weekly. There are three exams which one can be dropped and one final exam.
Dr. Garg is an approachable person and understanding when you have questions. He doesn't ever judge if you learn slower than others and creates a very stress-free environment. He paces very well and his lectures are excellent. There's not a lot of homework so your grade is based on your exam performance. The exams and grading scales are forgiving.
TAKE PROFESSOR GARG EVEN IF NOT ON POLYTECH! You can watch the recorded lectures online and just travel to Polytech for the tests. He is worth it! Tests match the practice tests very well.
Love this man! I'm no school girly! Excellent grading scale. If you pay attention & stay on top of weekly studying from lectures, you can definitely pass. Homework is based on completion. Exams can be a little hard but he gives you everything you need to succeed for the exams from the lectures slide/groupworks/practice exams. TAKE HIM!
BEST PROFESSOR EVER. Take him
He actually cares about the students and their grades. It is a difficult class but makes it so students can succeed. Provides lots of review and assignments to help understand material for exams!
Professor Garg is as good as it gets. His lectures are very clear and helpful for the tests. He sets up his grading system to make it very easy to get a good grade. There are practice tests available that are very similar to the actual exams. Organic chemistry can be a difficult subject, but taking Professor Garg's class made it very manageable.
As good as everyone says he is and was overall a wonderful experience. If you plan on taking the MCAT, exercise caution as there may be some topics he waters down for simplicity compared to other ochem 1 professors. Do lots of practice problems and success is very attainable.
took him for both ochem 1 & 2. if you put in the work, you will be fine. he cares & tries to set his students up for success. if you don't understand, attend SI & go to office hours. 3 midterms (one dropped) + 1 final. all his exams are cumulative. due dates for homeworks are reasonable & gives practice exams & extra credit & curves, uses iClicker
Garg has a lot of attention to detail and cares a lot about his students. I talked to Garg a bit but not a ton compared to what youd see. Even then, he noticed my improvement from ochem 1 and thought that was enough to write me a letter of rec. You dont have to be a perfect student, your efforts will be noticed! Worst he can say is no, best is yes.
This professor is just fantastic. Much better than some of the other Ochem teachers at ASU. He is there for you to learn, not to tank your grade. I wish he taught more chemistry classes. Absolutely would recommend.
Best ochem professor ever. exams are always predictable and if you do the work you can get a good grade. He is also very generous with rounding if you are on the cusp of a letter grade as long as you go to class and do the homework! He is also very understanding and gives you a lot of practice problems to do that mirror his exam and practice exams.
the class is a lot of memorization but the study guide will help with test. curve pretty well but its best to study at least one lesson per day. very accommodating and emails fast.
Garg's classes are stress-free, with only a little bit of homework. Exams do require a lot of preparation, but Garg requires the necessary material to prepare for them. Attend the SI sessions; they are beneficial. Great class. If you take advantage of the SI sessions and complete the practice material, you will pass!
Seriously an amazing professor! Dr.Garg is very organized, thoughtful, and thorough with his lessons—makes it SO easy to follow along and get an A. Make sure you pay attention, attend classes (uses I-Clicker), and watch the SI sessions. O'chem isn't easy but Garg makes it very palatable. Take his class seriously and you'll succeed! Thank you Garg!
