Took class in Spr 12.It is a hard class so it's expected to study ALOT!Don't bother doing his study guides as they are nothing like the exams. Gives lecture quizzes online and 4 discussions. Lab quizzes are in class. Go to every lab. Study the powerpoints and pay attention in class and you'll be fine. By all means possible, do not miss any class!
This is second semester anatomy and physiology. This teacher makes you work and think outside the box. He is more about "big picture" and clinical uses of the information than most. I worked hard in the class and learned alot! I would highly recommend him if you are serious about learning, if you just want to slide through A&P this is not your guy!
Patel is a great guy but this semester was disorganized. For example, test copies were no prepared prior to class, only had one discussion post, a lot of lab and DM, CS to do and a research paper that he had us do research on that was defective/inconclusive. Expectations are unclear. I learned a lot but was stressed the whole entire way.
Mr. Patel makes you work for everything you get! This was Microbiology and he continued his pattern of big picture/clinical knowledge. The labs could have been better prepared/organized and more suited to this course. My only complaint is his failure to post grades in a timely manner. If you want an easy class, go to someone else! I learned a lot!
If you work very hard, and commit at least 12 hours a week outside of the classroom you can do great in Patel's class! An "A" takes 94% and a "B" takes 86%. Not your average scoring! Patel is always late posting grades and returning papers so feedback is poor! Do yourself a favor and take someone that appreciates your hard work! I got a "B".
If you are looking to breeze through this class, this is not your guy. You have to attend class, pay attention, understand the big picture of concepts and figures! He is extremely smart, he knows his stuff. You will walk away from his class with a great deal of new knowledge. I can say I appreciate his teaching style. Great professor :)
He is a great teacher. He wants you to understand how things work and try's to relate it to everyday things. He is smart and has a lot of knowledge. You will have to work to get a good grade but he will help you if you need it.
He was the best biology teacher I have ever had. He cares about his students learning and he's completely fair on grading. It's also a plus that he is gorgeous. ;)
He is not a good professor at all. None of his test correlate to his study guides or homework. He speaks above you as if you should already know even when that's the purpose for you to be in the class, for him to teach you! His class averages are around 65% and he is very proud when that speaks a lot of him as we'll as the students.
although he is very smart and knows his stuff, when he lectures he goes all the way to China and back. He wants you to think outside the box but sometimes his concepts are not clear.Rarely sticks to the point and answering e-mails, forget about it.Don't take his class
He knows a lot of information about everything. But his study guides don't follow his exams. He tries to relate to everyone but expects you to know everything already. I would not recommend this class unless you seriously enjoy a challenge.
Super smart teacher definitely knows his stuff. Will stay and help you if you need it. Doesn't care about grades instead wants you to focus on big picture. Lots of critical thinking! Terrible at posting grades or returning work. Dont use PowerPoint to study. READ your book. Add lots of info to work & lab. Will have to Work for a good grade.
This professor does not give you an adequate study guide and you will have to study from the book to get a good grade. He also talks above your learning so look out for a real difficult challenge.
Patel is a difficult teacher. His exams are all multiple choice and he does adjust scores based on the highest grade in class but the questions are tricky and it seems he takes pride in the fact that half his students have to take the class a second time.
He helps you understand the material and encourages questions. His test are difficult but he does advise to study most of the diagrams in his powerpoints. He drops lowest grade test.
He wants everyone to really understand the concept and not just memorize what is in the book. Cons - His study guide for the test is no help at all. He is adorable...yum
This teacher is great! Attend class, ask questions, read the book, review power points. Overall he knows his stuff and wants you to be successful! Good luck!
Patel should NOT be teaching Microbiology. He knows what he is talking about but is unprepared and incapable of answering questions. He needs more experience before teaching this class again. His exams feel like trick questions and study guides are no help at all. Also admits to doing most of his prep at 3am.
Honestly I thought I would be recommending this teacher at the start of this semester but now that its about to be over I want everyone to know to STAY AWAY... he knows he's stuff but doesn't have a great way of teaching it, he is all over the place. he doesn't give C- or Ds to pass you have to have a 74 or higher?? I thought a C was 70??
Such a bad professor!! He says no memorization, but his exams ARE directed towards memorization!!! Too fast during lectures. All over the place. No clarity. Vague on his expectations, especially on exams. No study guide. Acts like we are in med school! Very frustrating!!!
Be prepared to be miserable in this class!! If you plan on taking it during spring, you will NOT enjoy your spring break!
I took this professor's class because iClickers & essay questions aren't used during exams. However, that doesn't mean his multiple-choice Scantron exams aren't challenging--because they are. His lectures are interesting though. Participation isn't graded & that is a HUGE plus for me. However, there is a final graded presentation, but fine whatever
Most people in my class view him as a horrible guy but in reality it's the amount of time YOU focus in the effort in studying that will determine YOUR grade in the class. His exams are okay depending on the amount of INFORMATION you PERSONALLY have LEARNED. If YOU didn't study enough that will reflect in YOUR grade. It's NOT HIS FAULT you did bad.
His class is only hard if you are not paying attention. He is very intelligent and conveys the information in a way that all can understand. The key to doing well is to just show up for class and ask questions.
He is very helpful and clear on his expectations of the class. His tests are difficult but he is preparing the students for how ?'s will be asked on other tests they may be required to take.I found it helpful to read the book. Definitely a class that you get out what you put in. He really wants you to understand the material.
I went from an A- to a B- in a span of two weeks because he progressively makes his exams harder. He will go over exams and say something like 67% of the class missed this question. That should be an indicator your exams are too hard. I thought I would get at least a B+ in his class and now I'll be lucky if I finish out with a B-. Bye good GPA.
I love this professor. I made sure to register for 224 with him as well. He knows his stuff and his lectures are interesting. He explains the difficult material really well. You get out of this class what you put in. If you study hard and spend the time, you can do well. Great teacher.
This professor seems very passionate about what he was teaching but doesn't really care about how well his students do. He is very unfocused bouncing from one topic to another and cramming almost a whole power point in 2 days before the final. He also lied about how much the final ext credit assignment was going to be worth. Never taking him again!
I got a B+, which I think should have been an A, his extra credit that I painstakingly did, didn't even help boost my grade. Without the extra credit I was alreadly on 88% - what happened? He didn't mention the "creative project on bones" we did and he focused more on the one due on finals. Posts grades late. i'm not taking him again. :(
by far the worst instructor. he rambles too much and his test are different from his lecture. I decided to give him a chance , but didn't realize how horrible he is. Take another!!! His exams are unbelievable hard. i would say you have to study approximately 8 hrs a day just to pass a C-.
Patel is awful. He is very knowledgeable, but can't explain it in a way to help you understand. When you ask a question its clear he only knows how to explain something that one way. He can't reword it to help you understand and then rushes on to the next topic before you can ask another question. Terrible!!
Amazing teacher! This was a tough class because I took the 6 wk summer class. However, if you study you can make it! He gives you plenty of opportunities to improve your grade. He is very helpful and willing to stay after class & help. I recommend recording lectures. rarely used. Do not miss class b/c exams are lecture & power point based.
He's a good teacher and yes his notes are all over the place but he does break things down very well. If you take a 6 week course it can be tough if you have a lot going on. I have to retake this class although i was literally points away not even a whole percent from a 74. This teacher makes you have a 74 to pass anything else fails automatically
Like most A&P classes, his class his tough. Maybe a little bit tougher than others. What I don't like about him is that he tends to be a bit lazy. He takes FOREVER to grade assignments. As a result, you never really know where you stand in the class.
This class is work, but he is a great teacher. Be prepared, his tests are multiple choice, but the questions are applicative (HARD). Go to class. Test corrections for bonus pts. Weekly labs, lot's of pre-leclab quizzes, optional final. I've heard there are easier teachers, but I would take him again. He preps you for future success.
Dr. Patel is very enthusiastic about his teachings & very knowledgeable. He is very easy to understand & his expectations are very clear. He gives you chances to ask questions & always breaks it down if you don't get it. Couldn't imagine BIOL 223 or 224 with anyone else. Wish he taught more classes!!!
I thought his tests were very fair. They were well written, but designed to make you read carefully and think critically. He was always willing to allow students to debate their incorrect test answers for partial credit. I enjoyed taking his class and would take him again.
Professor Patel is a really good instructor, his lectures are interesting and he explains everything very well (clear). His tests are critical thinking and require for you to really understand the material well. The material is difficult but he does a really great job explaining it. I enjoyed the class and would take him again for another class.
If you want to learn, you have to take Prof. Patel. He exams are hard, very hard, but that makes studying really fulfilling. The most important thing for me is he knows how to explain tough concepts in a very simple manner, so yes, he has the right to give tough exams. He also doesnt test you on things he did not cover.
If you want to learn ... He's the professor you want!!! Not too hard on exam. I would take him again if I need to.
If you are not a critical thinker, do not take Patel. His exams are all tricky and then when you ask him about it he saids I am not gonna give you easy tests. He is very clear though. He tells you that if you cannot handle it then drop the class before refund date. He is very smart but his tests are HELL.
Patel is awful. He is extremely disorganized and takes literally WEEKS to grade assignments. He is very confusing, gives unclear expectations, and constantly falls behind in the classroom. Take anyone but this professor. His exams are nothing like the lectures and his grading criteria is a cryptic mess that only makes sense to him. Avoid patel.
I had patel for 223 and 224... Great teacher!! I couldnt imagine taking these classes from anyone else.. His tests are hard but if you are active and present in class you will make it. He explains things very well.. He does take time to get grades in but he is very understanding and open about grades so if you have a question he is open about it.
Bio 223 is a tough class if you don't know the basics from Bio 189, but Prof. Patel is such an amazing Prof that he makes sure his class is not memorizing the material but UNDERSTANDING everything!!! Even though his exams are quite challenging because it is more of critical thinking, it is manageable if you really put your time and effort to it.
Professor Patel is a great choice if you want to really learn A&P. He can come off as harsh, but he cares and ended up dropping our lowest exam score. He has done this two semesters in a row. There is lots of homework, sometimes to the point that it becomes busy work, but really try to take something out of the HW bc it will really help u on tests.
Took his class over summer. Overall I learned a lot more than expected and he doesn't require you to memorize extensive anatomy parts. He sometimes curves the test scores bc they're difficult and not what you'd expect from studying. From what I've heard, he is more lenient over the summer. We did the case studies & lab as a group.
took him over the summer; gives case studies,HW, group projects, EXTRA CREDIt; not use f memorization, only learning, lots of ways to keep your grade up, curves exams, based off PPT, took this class bfore @ CSN failed, took this class with him got A-, six wk course intensive but not impossible. TAKE him. You will learn nd get good grade.
Took Professor Patel over the summer for 224. I would definitely take him again for other classes if I could. His class is by no means an easy A, but if you show up to class and study you will not only do well but you will learn a lot. This is not a memorization class, it is about understanding the material. He gives plenty of chances to succeed.
I learned so much from Prof Patel! His Bio 224 is not easy, but he teaches well. He is very knowledgeable and accessible. He taught me true skills that I realize I use now. Hes teaching you not only Bio, but how to succeed in the future. He is my absolute most inspiring teacher and he wears great socks.
Pros: Provides extra credit, can work in groups for lab work and case studies, willing to help after class or during office hours, curves exam grades, exams are only multiple choice. Cons: Tough grader, provides no feedback on case studies, very difficult exams (6 exams in total), a lot of homework, late grader, practice exams are not helpful
If I could have taken him for 224, I would have done it in a heart beat! Yes, his exams are hard, but Anatomy is hard, there is no simple way of explaining it. This is a college course, not high school. He appears to be strict, but he's actually a very nice, and understanding person.
Professor Patel gave really interesting and clear lectures. If you study his lectures, you will pass the tests. He is very clear on his expectations, and he is very helpful with any questions you have throughout the semester. I will be taking this professor again for a different course because he was so great!
Mr. Patels tests are very difficult. His tests are difficult because his multiple choices are 5 not 3 or 4 like most professors. He is rude, the comments he makes towards student are dumbfounding and he is stubborn. I wish he cared about his students as much as he cares about his lectures. He says he does but his actions prove otherwise.
If you could refrain from taking this professor I would. He is all about giving us students busy work, but cant grade them in a decent amount of time. His class was stressful , tests are hard and his expectations are very high.
I absolutely love Patel. He is awesome and makes this class a lot of fun. He has great lectures and encourages students to participate which makes this subject much easier when everyone is involved. He is easy going, but you have to study. You must keep up with the material/reading in order to do well, but common this is BIO 223 what do you expect!
The most amazing biology professor I have ever had. His tests are challenging, but as long as you put the time outside of class to study you will be fine. A lot of people complain, but you earn for what you get. His lectures make you understand instead of memorizing. I studied, followed his advice to be successful and got an A on every exam
Professor Patel has taught me much more than any other professor I've had before. He has a passion for teaching which makes the class very interesting but hard if you don't put the effort. What you learn with him will stick forever instead of just for the semester. EXCELLENT teacher.
I took this fully online, with scheduled zoom classes twice a week for lab and lecture. He only posts lecture videos and powerpoints, no study guide material. Exams are very tough, the class average was 58% the first time and 64% the next. Class are not meant to teach, they are "review" so don't expect him to help you understand a subject.
Patel really sets the scene for an interactive class. Seeing as how we haven't heard from him in a while, not too sure what I paid for. For those who take him during COVID, he says he will let you go in to dissect, he won't. You'll watch pre-recorded PowerPoint lectures and the exams look nothing like the practice. Grades last posted 1 month ago :/
I agree with the latest review. I unfortunately HAD to take him but wouldn't suggest it. This isn't his only job and he lets you know "I get paid regardless of how you all do". Yes, he DID actually say that. I learned more from YouTube than I did from his lengthy pre recorded videos. and no, there is no good way to study for this class. Good luck.
DON'T DO IT. If you're pre-nursing & worried about GPA, just don't. His exams are too difficult. I feel like I learned so much, but the exams were WAY harder than the lectures or HW. Class average for exams was usually D or F... Only a couple people EVER got an A on exams. He kept having to give extra credit to boost the grades since it was so low.
I just finished up taking this professor and let me say, I wish I would have waited. Only took him out of desperation, I see why he was avail. Claims to care about students, didn't round my grade up even .60% to get an A despite the fact he was absent. Only teacher to not do dissections. Even had to apologize to us for being so terrible. Wow.
I do not feel that the tests reflected material taught. Averages on tests were usually in the 64-65 %. There was endless busy work, that did not reflect tested material. Several times, he had to offer extra credit opportunities because the test averages were low, they took 8-10 hours to complete. I would avoid taking this professor at all costs.
I took him over the summer. Basically, there were 15 kids. Ended with 3. He is such a hard professor to understand and if you ask him a question. He beats around your question. You have to be specific. I swear. DO NOT TAKE
I enrolled in 224 over the summer because I wanted to complete the class and everyone told me that he was not the best professor to take and I did not listen but I should have. His lectures do not go with the exams at all and had to teach myself The first exam of the semester had a class average of 65%. DON'T TAKE IF YOU WANT TO PASS THIS CLASS
Avoid him please.
Professor Patel is a good instructor. However, there is no room for error. I would consider him a tough grader. I found his lab class more challenging than my lecture. If you don't have any other responisibilites outside of BIO223, I would take him. He's thourough in a way that drills information in your head.
At first I did not like Patel and how much work he would give for labs. By the end of the semester I was sad that he isn't going to be teaching 224 Lab. He does give A LOT of work that will take a very long time and require one to buckle down and focus, but it pays off in the end. He is patient and knows his stuff and really pushes you.
I really feel like he truly cares about his students. His tests make you realize you need to revisit how you study, and learn your true study habits. I have been able to become a better student because of him. I never thought I had it in me, but anything is possible. I would only recommend him if you're willing to put in the work.
I had professor Patel for this last fall semester. His class was the hardest class that I have ever taken. That being said if you put in the work it will show. Come to class prepared and you will understand everything easier. Lastly he does offer extra credit after exams which help out a lot.
Take him! He's AMAZING & very knowledgeable. I'm taking him again for 224. Not sure why he gets a lot of hate. Exams are 30%, cumulative final was fair, nothing crazy. Plenty of extra credit assignments to redeem yourself. He cares about his students & responds quickly on Canvas. Study, ask questions, & put in the effort. You get what you put in.
Tons of reading and homework, you have to know your stuff to pass. He asks critical thinking questions that may not even be mentioned in the readings or homework you just have to rationalize. There is no room for error. Take this class if you have no other responsibilities or priorities. Grade percentages are divided evenly (helpful: exams 30%).
I think Prof Patel is getting a rough rap here his class is hard but its an anatomy class I cant imagine it being easy, and hes more than fair with his expectations, now alongside that if you take this class prepare to work very hard lots of assignments and time are needed to pass but if you put in the work he'll do whatever he can to help you.
This is my second time taking Professor Patel. lecture 223 and Lab 224. His lab for 224 is very easy. There is group assignments and online homework but all of it is on the practical's. Practical's use lockdown not models. First exam is the hardest and last 2 are relatively easy. Take Professor Patel you will not regret it very great at teaching.
I took Patel for Bio223 (Human A&P I) for summer term. This class is extremely demanding and if you don't apply yourself you will not pass. I think the people rating him poorly are rightfully frustrated, but the lecture material does match the exams. Take Patel if you actually want to learn, not memorize. Put in the work and you will pass.
Professor Patel was one of my favorite professors I have had here. He is very knowledgeable and knows how to teach, he explains things in lecture very well and it is easy to understand the material because of the way he explains things. His lectures match up with the tests! If you just put in the work and study the slides you will pass with an A!
One of the best college professors I've had! His 224 classes were full because everyone wanted him again. He is very knowledgeable, organized, and engaging. He explains topics in a way that's easy to understand, and his expectations are straightforward. The work itself is hard but you just have to put the time in to study.
Professor Patel is such an amazing teacher, he tries is very best to make sure the students understands the material. His lectures really help with the exams and make sure to not miss his lectures since he gives really good examples on remembering certain topics. I am taking him again for 224 next semester and he was the first professor to fill up.
Professor Patel was a truly amazing professor. While reading reviews prior to the course scared me, I am so glad and thankful I took him as a professor. He is such an awesome and smart lecturer and will make sure you know the material. While tough on group worksheets and practicals, it all makes up for exams in the class and for overall knowledge!
I wouldn't take him again for lab. Very unclear study guides, some not ending up being on the practicals.
I took Patel for both lab and lecture for 223. He is AMAZING for lecture but I would NOT recommend him for Lab. There are lab worksheets due every week that range any where from 15-20 pages on top of other assignments. Most of the lab is spent with your group dividing the worksheets, not a lot of learning is done. Lots of group work!
I would NOT take this professor again, I had him for both Lab and Lecture and it was awful. Not only does he give minimum 20 assignments a week, but he takes MONTHS to grade. I did not learn a single thing in lab, prepare to be overwhelmed. He also told us to ask questions yet made us feel dumb when we did..
Professor is disorganized and unresponsive. Grades are rarely posted on time, and communication is poor. Missing a class feels like an automatic failure unless you have a doctor's note. He is not understanding at all. Lab is chaotic & lecture he jumps back and forth between topics without clarity.
I first took this professor not knowing what to expect and while he had a few bad reviews, I have to say he is good with teaching. One thing about his class is that you should expect to do a lot of homework, I'm talking daily but his teaching methods help you understand the concepts and I would recommend him for lecture.
If you think he gives'too much homework' you're not ready for a health career. The work is challenging because the field IS challenging. Stay organized and stop procrastinating, and blaming the professor sounds childish. It's doable if you actually try. Not an easy-A class but go tutoring, study and ask questions.
BIO 223 is definitely a challenging course, and you truly get out of it what you put in. He will push you to your limit, but his intentions are good, he genuinely wants you to learn and succeed. He offers multiple extra-credit opportunities, and you should take every single one of them. The DMS and MAP assignments are the key to this class!
Patel is a very good lecturer. He always pushes you to ask questions, but sometimes he makes you feel dumb after asking. He does have a lot of assignments if you have him for lab too, there was some weeks with 18 assignments. He does offer extra credit but just make sure you know what you're getting yourself into. He has high expectations
This class is challenging, but it's fair and manageable if you stay on top of the work. The workload can be heavy, but the expectations are clear, and the professor genuinely wants students to learn and understand the material. If you put in the effort and stay organized, you'll get a lot out of this class!
This professor goes off if you miss class for being sick and cant afford to get a drs note. He spends the first 15 min of class scolding the class for not being smart like his other classes EVERYDAY. He says hurtful things and has even said a 5 year old knows something I didn't. Also the people saying hes good but got a C? Yeah dont listen
