She's so cool.
She kept the subject, which is normally a boring one, interesting and entertaining. Learned a lot more than textbook history. She does her research for her lectures
Amazingly useful for a busy schedule person.
Best Damn Professor I've ever Had! Her style is the way all college courses should be taught. I learned a lot of interesting things about history of America
She was a very good teacher. She's not a "put you to sleep" kind of a professor. I learned a ton about American History in this class! Very interesting.
She was a great teacher - I recommend her to everyone. She doesn't have great personal skills, but the class was really interesting and I learned alot. The tests were all take home - just make sure to take alot of notes.
Excellent Professor! Knows everything there is to know about the subject. She's a Thomas Paine expert. I would recommend her classes to anyone.
First, Dr. Vickers (Miss Dr. Vickers if you're nasty) is a total hotty McHot-Hot. Second I have never learned as much about anything anywhere as I did with her. Finally, she rocks my history world, American style!
Great professor. Very cool. Actually made the class fun.
Good Teacher! Class is all lecture and notes, with a few extra credit assignments and 2 TAKE HOME TESTS! She knows her stuff and is a very good lecturer, I learned a lot. She is rather strict though (turn off cell phones, or you'll get yelled at).
She is a great professor that really knows her stuff. As long as you are a good note taker, this class is great.
Everything is based off of notes. Easy class. If you can find someone to get notes from you will never have to come to that class.
First of all the test arent take home. They are open notes though. The class is easy, she teaches well.
I can't express in words my admiration for Dr. Vickers! Dr. Vickers is a true intellect; her lectures reflect her historical expertise and true passion in the subject. Her lectures are NEVER biased; you know you are receiving accurate information and can formulate your own opinions. Although hist is not my fav, I recognize Dr. Vickers as THE top!
UGH! No textbook, which you would think would be good, but that means everything comes from her lectures, so DON'T MISS A SINGLE DAY! and be early, because she starts talking before the class begins. She talks SO FAST there is no time to write notes, so get a recorder. I don't know why people like her. She could care less about her students.
Oh my bad teacher! I trusted the comments so I took the class and that was a bad idea. She is not helpful at all. She treats the students like crap. If you ask a question or make a comment prepare to look really stupid. Some things on the tests were things you wouldn't even think of taking notes on. Don't take the class!
She really doesn't care about her students and doesn't appreciate comments or questions but she is a really good lecturer. The information is clear although she does start before class occasionally and talks really fast. A tape recorder should be used, but really only if you are actually going to go back and refine your notes. Attendance is key!
Didn't care for anything she had to say, horrible choices for textbooks.
Class lectures were good she had a totally different perspective about history than I had ever heard. Great up until about the fifties and then suddenly every President who was from her part was a God-send and the other party's presidents were complete trash. That happens a lot at a college but made her seemed biased. Doesn't answer questions.
SUPER easy! just go to class, take notes, then use them on the tests. if you fail, you're an idiot and you have no one to blame but yourself.
Vickers is great! She is direct and interesting. Big classes make it hard to hear if you are taking notes. Sit at the front. She even allows laptops if you sit in the back. A lot of notetaking but she also allows tape recorders. A lot of people used them.
If you enjoy thinking for yourself do not take this class. This teacher is pompous, haughty, and has a huge ego. Will fail class if you attempt to disagree with her. Look for a more open minded teacher
this is the easiest class i have ever taken. all you have to do is show up, take notes and then use those notes on the test. i don't see how people don't like her. if you need an easy 'A' and want to learn a little something along that way, take this class!
Rude and condescending. The high on the last test was an 80/100. Attached to my essay was a comment sheet (nothing IN the essay) full of rude, nonsensical messages and critiques on my writing style. As an English major, I consistently get A grades for my writing, so this seemed ridiculous. Grading on something she's unqualified to grade on.
You don't get to use your notes on the test. She loves the sound of her voice. And many people are right, she doesn't care about you as a student. Again, she loves the sound of her voice!! Take esquisite notes, if you take her class. And read them tons! If I could redo, I wouldn't take her.
Awful! I took this class online and barely scraped an A- (I am a straight A student). Completely rude and self-centered. Unclear about what she wants and then docks you because you are not sure and do not give her what she expects. Will not anser questions and even gets upset that you ask her anything. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!
I will save You and myself some time...... I agree will all the other comments. oh and you are not allowed to use notes on the test
I took this class from her becasue of what people said as far as it being an easy class. 1st of all she changed her tests, you can no longer use notes, it is multiple choice but she writes the test based 100% on her in class lecture and I swear she writes them for her students to fail. You cant miss any class or you will fail. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS
Her lectures were very interesting and fun to listen to. No homework or assignments, 3 test 50 questions each. Either you pass or fail
She DOES NOT let you use notes at all. There is no textbook and you are quized on your notes. and hope that you are fast enough to keep up with her rmbling on and on about pointless things that will be on the test. I took this class because everyone told me it was easy. well they lied she was horrible.
She does not let you use your notes with tests. She does talk fast, so record her lect. She can be aloof, not stuck up, my fellow students, it?s not all about you. Extremely qualified, if you want to write better and learn something then take her class.
Vickers is very organized and does expect some critical thinking from her students. Her exams were all essay and were very hard but they prepare you for your upper division classes. She lets you redo the first exam if you do bad. I thought her lectures were clear and interesting but she is a fast talker. I liked the class but it was hard!
Worse teacher ever! More than half class failed!
HORRIBLE TEACHER.
HORRIBLE TEACHER. i would never recommend taking a class from this teacher. there is no text book so your notes are your answers to the test. vickers study guides are pointless. they do not help one bit. DO NOT take this class from her.
AVOID! this teacher is very unfriendly and not helpful whatsoever. 3 tests @ 100 points each. Pass or Fail.
Vickers is the worst teacher I have ever had in my life! Her class is a psychological nightmare. If you want to save your self from some serious stress don't take this class!!!! Take Sessions he is the best history professor ever!!!!
I agree this teacher and class was a psychological nightmare. 3 Tests 100 points a piece. Wished I knew about rate your professor prior to taking this class.
Do not take her class! Those stating that her tests are easy were able to use notes and I still don't know how they were easy. No book and all she talks about is slavery and civil rights. You learn nothing about American History other than slavery. Half of the study guides aren't even on the exams. She is bitter towards everyone, STAY AWAY!
This teacher was the worst! Study guides have nothing to do with what is on the test. Not friendly, and doesn't like to answer your questions.
She was very rude and didn't help me when I needed help. When I asked for help, she acted like I should know everything. Her study notes were horrible. They didn't even cover what was on the test. I wish I knew about this sight before I signed up for her class.
I would take this class from a different professor! I took her online class and even though she does provide an outline and allows you to rewrite the first test, she grades harder than my senior level professors! She also is inconsistent in her grading - I'd get 20/20 on one assignment and then get 15/20 on the next with no explanation!
Vickers is a great teacher if you are a communist, anti- American, hate white people, feminazi. WOW no surprise some people cannot hack it in the private sector. Scared to even venture into the social science building let alone the egotistical lair of vicki vickers!! a disgusting discrace to academia. turn and run and sign up for Dr. Sessions class
I have never learned so much from a history teacher. I look every semester in hopes she's teaching something else I could take. i love her lecture style, since I'm not a reader. I loved her tests and study guides. Study guides make it easy to what you should be listening for in classes. I'm not sure why everyone dislikes her. Really. I LOVED it.
Vickers was an interesting lady, she was so pro-black it was ridiculous... I think she applied for the history of African American class and was stuck in 1500. I survived the class because I have a pretty good memory but some of the test material wasn't covered in her lectures. VERY VERY BIASED TEACHER!!!
Yep, with a capital C
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Completely biased. If she doesn't agree with you on what your ideas were for an assignment, she doesn't give you credit! Has favorites. Horrible at explaining things. Teaches like it's an upper division class. STAY AWAY!!!
This was an online class, and it consisted of reading, reading, and reading. There were no discussions, no lessons, nothing that the teacher did to help in teaching the material. Straight reading- of 1,000 pages. It sucked.
I took HIST 1700 last semester from Gene Sessions and got a C- and I worked my butt off. I took this class online this semester and got an A+ This class was so easy I LOVED it! It reminds me of a English class because you read books and write papers and journals. This is probably one of the BEST classes I have ever taken and I hate history. AMAZING
I loved the online class. It was pretty easy. I'm not a fan of history, but this class was great!
Very apathetic
I took this class online. There were no tests, just reading and essays. It was very simple as long as you did your reading. She must have changed her cirriculum from previous years, because I see some students mentioning exams. There were no tests.
This class was so easy. There were no tests, just reading and writing. The writings were super easy. The longest paper was 500 words. As long as you know your deadlines you'll be fine. If you Dont like history but need this class, I recommend the online class from her!
Very easy class online. However, she seemed mad about any little mistake I would make, but would give no help when asked. No tests, all reading. The longest essay was 500 words, and a breeze to right. I skimmed the books and got out with an A (97%).
Very easy class, but you have to read a lot, and write a lot of papers. The professor is very rude.
I really did not like this professor. If you are going to take history do not use her as a teacher. She is very unclear and quite rude when she gives comments back on assignment.
Easy online class with mediocre professor. Syllabus shows a lot of reading but it was unnecessary. Professor seemed more concerned with teaching grammar, spelling and plagiarism than history. Also came across rude and aggitatated with any feedback.
Look I have been reading a lot of negative reviews about Dr. Vickers, most that she is rude. She is not rude, but she will not let you get away with poor grammar and not knowing what you are writing about. She is a good professor that teaches her students good writing and professionalism. Take her class if you love history and want to learn.
Took this class online so you use the book alot. She is a good teacher and the material and sites she has you do your papers from are very interesting. Loved this class learned alot! Second class I took from Vickers and will take another one anytime. She does want quality work so if you think can slide by she'll catch you!
If you love history, she is amazing, however if you think this is a "freshman" type class...WRONG! The reading is very hard, and makes hardly any sense. She is harsh and rude. I am happy this class id done! Not worth the money!
I took her online class and although it wasn't that tough I felt like she was more concerned with how your citations looked and you used them rather the lesson being taught. You write papers constantly, but they aren't that long.
she is cold hearted and rude. you will write papers every class, and she won't grade them if the grammar isn't perfect! i think she should teach English! or any class that i won't have to take!!!
She only teaches because people do not have the guts to report her to the due process officer.
I read her reviews before taking the class and was nervous, but she was not as bad as eveyone said...if you just follow her instructions exactly, you will get a good grade. She breaks up the work into groups (eases a lot of the burden) and requires you to write, but I thought she was open minded w/ her grading. Do not be intimidated by reviews.
You don't have any tests, and the only quizzes you have are extra credit on the lectures she gives. Her lectures are pretty random, and cover a lot of different things. If you're good at writing take her class, all you do is write 4 papers. Pretty easy.
Incredibly cruel teacher. She seems nice during class, but will have no hesitation when she feels the urge to insult someone. Her grading is super strict and is likely to fail you for missing an aspect or two from an assignment. I am unsure how she hasn't been kicked from the school yet.
Worst professor ever. She worries more about grammar and writing papers then teaching actual history. She is very rude and does not explain things very well. She also DOES NOT respond to emails.
This class is all about power point presentations that contain maybe three to four slides. The lecture does not cover all of the material that appears on the test. Also having no text book made the course very difficult because I felt some of the "fact" the professor used was truly her opinion.
This class was very difficult. You had to go to class every day. The information given was only through power points and lecture, but the lecture never covered all of the testing material. My class did not have a text book for the course but we did have to read two books that didn't really relate back to the course.
Took the online class, there were a lot of essays to write, but really easy, as long as your grammar was correct.
She was very picky about the papers you had to write the books we read had nothing to do with history she gave me 80 out of 100 because I used a wrong term in one of my papers 1 thing wrong and 20 points WTF
She is rude, simply put. God forbid you ask her a question she will put you down fast! Read her syllabus and follow it to the T, no late assignments accepted, easy class though you just read a chapter and answer questions, no tests and one final essay that is unrelated to history completely. If you can avoid her do so at all costs!!!
She was very rude! If you have a question she will either be rude and make you feel dumb or she'll give a short answer and move on. She really doesn't care about her students at all. I studied for a test and got %17 because " I didnt write 5 sentence answers," but all of my answers were right. B.S. That one test score killed my final mark.
She is the most rude professor I have ever dealt with! If you had questions she would answer as if you were stupid. Heaven forbid you had a question about anything. The class was easy however due to no tests. I would never recommend her to anyone! Even the people I hate.
A lot of unnecessary reading that did not teach anything about relevant history. I am sure she is a great researcher but does not belong in the teaching role. Her use of précis to sum up the reading material did not make any sense to me. Other than that she was a decent presenter of irrelevant info not seen on the tests.
This course was super easy, you answer two questions per chapter each having to be only 200 words. There are 26 chapters. Sounds like a lot but it was only two chapters a week. No quizzes and no Final. Just one essay at the end with a total of 750 words. Easy A.
She is the meanest professor I have ever encountered. All communication with her she was rude and condescending. I was marked down for the most asinine reasons. I asked her what I could do to boost my grade and she responded with incorrect information about my current grades and refused to let me do anything so that I could graduate!
Yes, she is a tough teacher. She doesn't play favorites, and she doesn't hold hands. But she is fair and she knows her stuff. Four short-answer exams, two 6-page papers, and one course portfolio project (don't procrastinate that one!). She is a hard grader, but her expectations are not unreasonable. I would take her again.
I know Dr. Vicker's isn't for everyone, but I think she is a great professor. Her expectations are not unreasonable: three short response papers and three short answer exams, plus extra credit. She has a high B.S. detector, but if you are going into the field of history, she will make you a better historian. I'm really glad I took this course.
She's very harsh and I would just recommend that you take it from another professor.
Pretty easy class. Sometimes it seems like she cares more about the grammar in your work than the content.
In all honesty the class was easy But the professor is HORRIBLE! She is super rude and does not like to answer questions.
DONT take her class! This is a History class but she makes it English. She'll make you cite ChicagoTurabian and if you miss one citation at all, you've lost points. She doesn't answer questions clearly. Blows off questions she believes are dumb. Double check submissions because one glitch and you fail that assignment. Tests not bad, study!!
I took this class after reading the ratings and I shouldnt have. I am glad to have dropped this class because she is very rude when you try communicate with her. Her answers are short and rude . When students ask her questions in class shes rude. Save yourself trouble and dont take her class. No late work is accepted at all
Tough grader and you read a lot as if every student taking her class was a history major. I do not recommend. Now I understand why her classes never fill up.
