Very smart professor and a native speaker, however, she grades very hard and demands that you study. You won't get by in her class if you don't study. She does encourage students to come by during office hours.
You can work hard and still not understand Spanish and she just thinks you need to work harder and says you aren't studying. Doesn't understand American culture very well. I'm surprised she is still at Meredith--how many students have to complain?
She is really sweet but I don't think that she is a good professor b/c though she is very smart, it is really hard to communicate with her until you know upper level spanish also. I did well, but didn't learn a ton either. She is very helpful though.
Vilma is a very nice lady over all, but she is a horrible professor. She hates all of her students unless they raise their hand every five minutes and volunteer the answer. Even if you try really hard in that class, she still says you don't participate enough and encourages you to drop the course.
vilma is nice to you if you get good grades... but if you dont.. she basically hates you and has no desire to help you succeed. if you dont understand something, she assumes its because you havent studied enough. if you ask a question about something, she assumes you havent studied anough.
THIS LADY HAS NO MERCY...IF UR DOIN BAD...ITS BECAUSE UR NOT STUDYING ENOUGH...NOT BECASUE U DONT UNDERSTAND IT..SHES UNREASONABLE...ANAL...HAS HER FAVORITES...DROP HER CLASS...EVEN IF U WORK HARD...U PROLLY FAIL STILL...SHE WANTS U TO NOT SUCCEED!!!

Just no....
VERY VERY HARD, DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN RULES AND MAKES DISCRIMINATORY COMMENTS.
oh my god everytime i go to that class i dread it, i have a headache before i even walk into the door.
she sucked
UGH!!! I HATE THIS WOMAN!!! SHES UNCLEAR WITH HER DIRECTIONS, INTERUPTS YOU WHILE YOU'RE TRYING TO TAKE A TEST, IS NOT UNDERSTAND IF YOU MISS WHEN YOU'RE LAYING ON YOUR DEATH BED AND POSTS HOMEWORK UP ON BLACKBOARD UP UNTILL 10 PM!!!!!!!!! DON'T EVER TAKE THIS CLASS
I have learned more Spanish in the first two weeks of her class than the last few years combined. I think if you really put in the effort, she will definitely help you.
She is a hard teacher, but if you do your work, she isn't too bad.
she is ridiculous. I enetered into her class eager to learn about the culture and spanish language and left uninterested and angry. She offers no outside help, gets off subject a million times in class, and is HEARTLESS. I will never ever reccomend that anyone take her class, you will hate your life.
excellent
She was very hard. If you are not good with spanish, no matter how had you study... she will not like you. She has her favorites based on how well they are with the language. She is not willing to help and if you ask for help all she says is "you need study." I would not suggest ANYONE go through the stress of her class.
Worst professor I have ever had in my life! She is disrespectful to the students, ignorant of our academic needs, carless, and by far the least helpful professor alive. I am not a student who is doing poorly in her class, but one who dislikes her character and having to teach myself what she doesen't teach us. All I can say is good luck
If you have more than one class with her, you get used to her, but it doesn't really get easier. Be aware that if you take the Phonetics class, you have to be off campus for class once a week. And don't miss quizzes/tests because she has some wack make-up methods.
It seems to me that if you act like an adult, hold yourself to professional standards, and actually spend some time studying instead of whining, you can get a really good grade in this class. If you are looking to fly through school without any effort on your part, I suggest that you go back to kindergarten.
Worse teacher ever had!! REally really bad...stay far far away!
She was the worst teacher I ever had. If you are in this class, I suggest you get out!!
TERRIBLE TEACHER! I've spoken to several Spanish-speaking people and they even said they cannot understand her at all. She likes to make you feel stupid and call you out like you are not paying attention when you are. She will put you on the spot.
She is the worst Spanish techer I've ever had. She doesn't explain anything in a way for non-spanish speaking students to understand. She was very rude when I tried to work with her outside of class and was not helpful.
Dr. Concha was one of the easiest professors I've had at Meredith. If people stopped whining and actually studied, it wouldn't be that hard. The tests are easy and you get a chance to do test corrections and earn some points back. You have homework everyday but it helps you understand the material. So it really is not that hard. Spanish is such a s
She is a great professor! She is a wonderful person who deserves WAY more credit than she gets. She works hard to make sure that all of her students succeed. She is a workaholic so if you ever need her she is either in her office or on the computer checking e-mail. She spends a lot of time planning her courses and grading student work.
Worst teacher I've ever had. She teaches in my major (Spanish) and I've had her for multiple classes. She's disorganized, rude, impatient, and constantly loosing things. She has a horrible memory (she will constantly ask you the same questions throughout the semester.) She unfortunately has tenure. I absolutely do not recommend Dr. Concha.
Concha sucked... it's an easy class if you do the work but if she decides she doesn't like you she will screw you over. She is rude and inconsiderate... not to mention every class was the biggest waste of time.. she's so disorganized and you will only do one organized activity throughout the entire 1 hr class
Stay away.
She is the dumbest teacher I have ever had. Her class is extremely easy, but there is a TON of busy work. She never cancels classes, and instead finds a substitute. When there is a sub. the work is pointless and never taken for a grade. Do NOT get on her bad side or you will fail the class. If at all possible, GET A DIFFERENT TEACHER!
If you want to learn the spanish language, take someone else. Although she is a native speaker, she doesn't seem to know the language. I have proved her wrong on several occasions. Also, she is probably the most unorganized teacher at Meredith College. If this is your first spanish class, I repeat, TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!
Horrible. Stay far away!
Do not take her. She tends to "blame" the class on not learning fast enough, but she is the one who teaches slow. When she hands out a quiz she hands them out individually at a slow turtle pace. The whole side of the class is done by the time I receive my quiz. If you don't know the answer she skips over you, instead of helping you.
She is a very nice lady but is not an effective teacher.
I have her currently for Spanish 101 and while I'm learning a lot, it's very hard to understand. I also received a participation grade of an 80 and she wants me to try to improve my participation. It's hard because she picks certain people to answer questions over and over again instead of letting others raise their hands. Nice person, bad teacher.
you basically have to teach yourself, she said that she does not review b/c you should already know the material from previous spanish courses;even tho review is essential when learning a foreign lang. She rushes us thru test b/c we should "already know it". Students are starting to write letters to the head of the dep b/c she is rude and sarcastic
NOOOOOOOOOOO. DON'T DO THIS TO YOURSELF.
SHE IS AWFUL! TERRIBLE! she is really unhelpful and makes you answer questions on useless videos that are hard to hear. She also is wrong about things and doesn't understand what she is saying half the time. She spends a ton of time on the schwa but teaches it incorrectly. and she is snarky and rude. does not respect the student's time.
This is the absolute worst language class. The department requires to complete 4 chapters & she spent half a semester on chapter 1 & has proceeded to rush through other chapters. She grades quizzes based on how she likes u. She never knows what is going to be on her tests. She will tell u 1 thing in class and then change it. DO NOT TAKE HER!
She was not helpful. And assumed everyone should know everything. She was one of the worst Spanish professors.
Awful. I took Spanish101 with no prior knowledge of Spanish. I think she forgets that it is a beginners Spanish class. Over half way through the semester and she still doesn't know my name. Honestly, professors like her make me question why I pay so much money to come here.
She is inconstant and unable to understand at times. She's forgetful and repeats herself. She is a nice person but has zero teaching ability and skills! Teaches like you have background in Spanish. Class is easy if taken spanish recently in high school, if not your doomed!! My interest prior was high, she has made me hate spanish now!!
This teacher is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. She is not clear with directions, nor with her english. I had never taken Spanish before and getting put with her was one of the worst things that could have possibly happened to me. Unless you are an absolute genius at Spanish then stay away!!
This professor is someone that you should stay away from. She is not clear with directions nor with her english. I went into this class with no knowledge of Spanish, thinking that she would want to help me since I am her student. I went to her a couple times and all she could say was, "context context context." I would be out within 3 minutes!
Dr. Concha is a very tough teacher but if you actually study and practice outside of class, it is not hard to succeed. At the beginning of the semester, I was struggling because I hadn't needed to apply myself as much in previous Spanish courses. I quickly learned that to get a good grade from her, you MUST work for it.
Her English is not very clear. Sometimes she seems to struggle for words. She is very intelligent. She asks students to do things such as move her table & chairs for her, although she is perfectly capable of doing so herself. I had a good Spanish teacher in HS, so I know a lot of the material already. I imagine a new Spanish student being confused.
Dr. Concha isn't an easy professor but she is a great teacher. This isn't a class to get an easy grade and pass, she will make you work for it but it will be worth it. She is very kind and cares greatly for her students, treat her with respect and she will return the favor. This class isn't hard if you just do your work and participate in class.
I have no prior knowledge with Spanish and I can honestly say I still have zero knowledge. We are finished with the semester and I have not learned any basics. Do not take this class if you are a beginner in Spanish. She is not very clear and teaches no foundation for the language.
Wonderful lady but if you take any of her classes, be prepared for busy work, last minute projects, and participating 24.7. She is not afraid to call you out in front of the class. Also, if you blink then that is considered cheating.
She is a very good person. She cares a lot about her students. She can be unclear about assignments at times because of the language barrier but she is always more than willing to help you study and to answer any questions you have. If you do your homework you WILL do great in the class. Her test and quizzes are based off of the homework.
She is a wonderful person who has a great sense of humor. Her English is ok but kind of hard to understand. I had no prior knowledge of the language in Spanish 101 and i ended up failing the class. I retook the class with a different teacher and received an A... She is extremely confusing and doesn't know how to talk tounderstand her students.
A lot of people were not happy having her as a professor, truthfully I liked her. If you pay attention and ask questions, she really appreciates that. She really cares about her students. She can be hard to understand but she tries her best and has a good sense of humor. Just study, ask for help and her test are not hard. It is an easy pass.
She was the sole reason I've started to dislike Spanish. I came into her class and have had to deal with her constantly changing and unreasonably high expectations. The only way to get a good grade in this class is to participate and always do the homework. As long as you try, she will give you a good grade.
Professor Concha is a genuinely sweet lady. She will help you whenever you need her to. Generally, if you actively participate and do the assignments, it's an easy class. My only complaint is that she's difficult to understand at first, but you get used to it after awhile.
Dr. Concha is very hard to understand. Since English is not her first language, it is very hard for her to explain the material. There are quizzes every week but normally she doesn't take the time to review for the quiz, and instead starts new material. She does allow test corrections but only gives extra points if the corrections are 100% correct.
Worst prof I've ever had. Does little to no preparation has unrealistically high standards (for 102) and no empathy. Asking questions is frowned upon--it means you aren't trying. Rarely explains material before testing on it, becomes incredibly frustrated when (not if) students are confused, in large part bc she has such a poor grasp on English!
I loved Spanish before taking her class, but now I feel sick when I start to talk about it. I genuinely feel like I have had the joy of language learning taken from me by taking this class. I urge you to to take her classes somewhere else or take a different professor/class.
I liked spanish before coming to college and having her as my teacher. She doesnt go over anything for quizzes and then gets mad when you dont know it. I would NOT take her for any spanish classes.
Worst teacher I've ever dealt with. Professor Concha does not teach. She spends most of the class time going over previous homework assignments that she doesn't actually teach us how to complete. She treats us like we're beneath her if we don't know answers. There's so much more I could say but my desire to learn language has been taken from me.
She belittled people in front of the entire class. Multiple times she accused me of cheating on tests because i was holding my head up with my hand to focus. She called me out in front of the entire class and said I had written answers on my hand. Very embarrassing and very distracting from my test
I took this class as my first Spanish class at Meredith. She is an amazing teacher and really cares about her students. Meeting with her during office hours helps a lot! I also love that she lets the students do test corrections, that is very helpful!
Don't take her
Heavily graded on participation and attendance. Teacher is very religious and may push her views on you. You have to do two memorized oral presentations in Spanish.
Concha is not a good professor. She is very hard to understand. I do not recommend taking her.
Concha is the best.
Okay. If you are reading this I am sure it is because you have heard things. So here is the deal. Attend every class. Ask her questions about the topic you are going over and go to her office hours! Study study study for the quizzes. Simply give this class your all and participate!
She cares about you as a person but not particularly as a student. She is also very condescending. It is very difficult to understand her and she is very unclear as to what she expects and wants.
Professor concha is the worst professor Ive ever had at Meredith college. Shes unreasonable and makes no sense 100% of the time. She has no idea how to use bright space or supersite. You only get two attempts on supersite. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE
Cant say enough bad things about this professor. Shes unclear. Rude. Doesnt do anything but go over the book in class as if you cant read that on your own time. I would recommend anyone but her
I know she has a bad reputation but this teacher is super sweet and I love her. She is honestly one of my favorite teachers. My rating might be biased because our class had 5 people in it. If you take this class just for credit it sucks, but if you actually want to learn Spanish she will teach you if you work hard.
Professor Concha might be the worst teacher I have ever had. Her lessons can be hard to follow and she is never clear on directions. Concha does not grade extremely hard but her test corrections are mandatory even if you got a 90 or 95 on the test or quiz. The quizzes are every Friday.
Concha's class was the first spanish class I took at meredith. The class was easy but she can be a bit disorganized leading students to miss assignments, overall she is a really sweet professor, just make sure you are aware of any assigments, if youre not sure you have any, ask her just to be sure!!! you do not want to miss any assignments.
Literally hate this prof. Accused multiple ppl of cheating every class period and accused me in class making me have a panic attack. So disrespectful to students and isnt helpful, just generally a bad professor. Do NOT take her, take wade. I wish she wasnt tenured.
Dr. Concha was a very sweet lady, but her class was terrible. The quizzes had material on it that I had never seen before and they were very difficult. She was not a good explainer in my opinion. There was one time I had to miss a in person quiz and she asked me multiple personal questions that made me feel uncomfortable. I would not recommend her.
Literally one of the worst teachers I've ever had! She is extremely disrespectful and is not helpful outside of class. Her test are hard and she is not willing to help you at all. She takes forever to answer emails back and when she does they are confusing and unprofessional. DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS SHE IS TEACHING!!!!!
This is by far my most hated class. She's never prepared and often spends the first five minutes of class trying to figure out something regarding technology. She doesn't go over the material long enough and will tell us things with no time in advance. She makes everyone unmute on zoom and gets mad when there's noise. Nice lady but bad teacher.
If you are interested in learning the spanish or expanding your knowledge, she is a great teacher. She is tough, but really wants you to learn and cares about your growth.
She's always very distracted and never prepared for class. She makes errors in grading frequently and does not like to own up to them. She does not explain assignments thoroughly at all. She also is "allergic" to cell phones and will call you out on electronic use. While she is kind, I do not recommend her course at all. She is unfit to teach.
By far the worst professor ever. Doesn't care if you understand the material she will move on. Refuses to put PowerPoint on Brightspace. No phones or laptops in class and all exams are in person on paper. Grades harshly and only gives 10 points back on test corrections which take 4-6 hours to complete and I NEVER get all 10 points back. HORRIBLE!!!
this professor did not respect accommodations and was unwilling to provide extra help to those who needed it. unsupportive and unprofessional
While the professor is difficult and you can't use phones and you must study, her teaching strategy is effective. If you are really wanting to learn Spanish, you will learn if you study, she teaches in context rather than you just memorizing. Don't be afraid to reach out, she will help you.
This professor made learning more difficult than it needed it to be. The class was an organizational nightmare with her only accepting work emailed in that she would then often lose and be plain mean when it was pointed out the mistake was on her behalf. Her text questions lack clarity/context so getting a good grade does not rely on studying.
The absolute worst!! She teaches a different Spanish and wants it her way. it was so unbearable I had to withdrawal to save my GPA. in fact, I didn't even know my grade in the class cause she doesn't post grades until the last minute. no phones. tests every Friday that weigh your whole grade, and terrible attitude. WOULD NOT TAKE EVER!!!!
Professor Concha is big on everyone participating. She does things her way and only her way and can be disrespectful at times. I did learn in her class though because I participated quite a bit and it helped me a lot. If you do your homework and participate you should do well.
She does not clearly state what is being taught and will test you on material that has not even been learned yet. No one makes above a B in that class and she is very rude when you ask for help. She blames your failure in the class on not working hard enough saying you just need to do better. This woman is very out of touch and made me miserable.
Dr. Concha is a great professor. As long as you study, complete all the assignments and work hard, you shouldn't have a problem in this class. She does call on students, but that means participation grades are easy to get. Don't let the bad ratings scare you! Her teaching is very effective.
Professor Concha is an interesting lady. Be prepared for lulls in the lecture and specific participation/grading criteria. That said, she wants her students to succeed and is very willing to work with you if you're struggling. As long as you frequently participate in class, you should be fine.
I read all the negative reviews and thought, "How bad could it be?" It's awful. If you are between taking her class or waiting for another semester to have a different teacher, WAIT THE SEMESTER. She ignores accommodations, won't admit when she's wrong, and quizzes on topics before teaching them. She expects you to be fluent and know everything
This professor was by far the worst professor I have ever had in my entire life. She does not care whatsoever about any of the students or their personal lives, and if something comes up that could cause you to miss class she says “well you've known about my work so no excuse”. The language barrier is insane and she wears a mask everyday! Terrible!
Dr. Concha has a bad rep but she liked me because I made an effort to chat casually. She's particular and can nitpick small things like seating. The homework is pretty easy but she does quizzes every friday. One good thing about her is she rounds up grades so if you have and 89 and you ask her for an A she will probably give you one.
YOU HAVE TO ATTEND CLASS, it's like the biggest thing she cares about, you have to go to every class, you HAVE to participate, and you HAVE to study. Her class is essentially practicing out loud everything you read in whatever homework was assigned. Do not get behind in the homework, and please participate.
