Really knows his stuff; makes you work but you learn a lot; a challenge but fair
No Comments
This class sucked, you are better off not going to class and just reading the book because he only summarizes the chapters...very boring.
His teaching style is so awkward. He uses several overheads that even the people in the front row have a hard time reading. 1/3 of the class never had enough time to finish tests, and the mean was always in the 60 percentile. Never take his class!
Very repetitive, so it's very difficult to not understand what he's teaching. His Tests are a BIG challenge because he write them in a way where if you don't know what you're doing, then there's no way you'll finish.Once you get you know him, he's cool
ROBOT, JUST LECTURES ON NOTE OF BOOK, NOTHING ORIGINAL, NOTHING INTRESTING, MONOTONE VOICE, HAS SMALL GLIMCES OF HUMOR, JUST NEEDS TO UNWIND
Very robotic and monotonous. Doesn't care about your performance in the class or helping you improve. Hesitant and difficult to schedule appointments to meet with him outside of his office hours. Never take his class.
I have been acquainted with this professor for along time and find him to be very helpful, articulate, and extremely funny. He may be slightly robotic, but robots are cool.
Like a robo cop teacher, but does push the class to actually learn. I think that if your a slacker, don't take his class.
Very hard teacher. Very boring. Not very enthusiastic at all. Doesn't seem like he likes to teach. Worst teacher I have ever had. Needs to lighten up.
Research Methods- Yea so what, his voice is monotone and can put you to sleep, but he does try to make jokes and he cant change his voice- visit him on office hours and it will BENEFIT YOU GREATLY! He's a nice man!
Sure he teaches a 200 course like you are in grad school, but all in all he is a wonderful teacher and it is nice to know that a professor expects the best from his students. Just pay attention in class and you should be fine but be really to work.
He was helpful in every way he could be. Yeah, the class can be boring. But you are in class to learn, so pay attention. He tells you what you need to know. No guessing games, but tough tests. Study, practice, and pay attention, you'll easily pass.
Makes easy concepts difficult to understand. Does not like teaching this course and it shows. Busy work and paper not very applicable to class intent. Somewhat of a jerk.
Dr. Troffimoff is awesome! One of the most underrated psychology professors at this school, stringent but very informative must be a self-starter though. Plus he's so sweet!
Kind of dry lecturer with an interesting sense of humor. But, if you don't like attending class, he lectures right from the text so you won't miss anything.
he is very robotic. he makes the worst jokes and then tells the class that he just told a joke. doesn't give you help when you need it. his tests are okay and you get a page of notes but he is too anal about the essay portion and will take away too many points for little mistakes. LOTS OF HOMEWORK.
avoid taking this teacher at all cost
horrible, i couldn't believe him. makes it harder than it has to be, does not like to answer questions, nor help students. such a jerk.
Just keep up. He does not stop for anybody/anything. I missed one day of class and he would not help me catch up or help me with concepts that I missed. Office Hours are a joke.
IF you go to class and take good notes you will survive. He is organized and i generally liked him ...but he is very unapproachable.
not the easiest class but if you go to lecture, do the homework and make an effort you'll survive. he may seem unapproachable but is a very nice man under the tough professor exterior.
very hard his test are like 10 pages long. Do the homework. Have to know the logic, You have to write essays for every homework and for every test. Best advise is to come to every class and take good notes because he lets you have a cheat sheet on the tests.
He made this class very easy for me. I really like the way he organizes his lectures. There are three BIG exams but on the practicums parts you can use your notes. Just take GOOD notes.
hard class, just go to class EVERY TIME and do the homework and write almost detailed, perfect, essays, study hard, acknowledge his rather dull jokes, and you'll PASS the class!!!
I had this teacher for stats in the fall and chose him again for the following semester with research methods. Yes you have to go to class and yes you have to write papers (230) and essays(220), but in the end youll KNOW stats and research methods, which are the basics for a psyc major... also I actually thought he was funny!
Good subject matter and well organized. Didn't always have the facts to back everything up, but for a summer class he did a good job. Go to every class and you will learn mucho! I suggest taking this class although his mono-tone voice can be a boring.
Dr. Trofimoff is an awesome teacher! He is very helpful if you go to his office hours and he always has a bunch of TAs who will pretty much go through every homework problem with you and make sure you get it right. He seems cold if you don't try to talk to him, but outside of class he's a very nice guy. Class is tough, but if you do the homework and take good notes you'll be fine.
Way too much work for a lower-division class. Very hard, lots of work!
Oh, he is such a sweetheart!!!!!! Dr. Trofimoff, I love you! He is very intelligent, funny, cute, very-very helpful. Just don't let him scare you:) He looks cold on the outside, but once actually talk to him he will help you a lot. Plus, he is very clear, precise and right to the point.
Oh, geez! This guy is tough! Go to class, work hard, do EVERY assignment... and you'll get a B.
I'm sorry, this guy is just the worst... never take a class with him.
worst teacher ever. I asked him for help like 5 times and he refused. His laughs @ his jokes when they aren't funny. His class and tests are hard and he is just rude. I learned a lot in the class, but he gets mad at you if you ask too many questions in class. He just should not be a teacher b/c it's obvious that he doesn't want to. Avoid this guy.
I took Personality with him and had the hardest class ever! When I approched him about my progress and grade, he said he could not discuss it with me! I worked very hard on all exams and on the paper, only to find out that he failed me at the end of the semester and he wouldn't do anything about it...he is terrible and unwilling to work with you
Nice guy but not a very friendly grader...Kinda weird to, says some jokes that are only funny to him. The class work is easy overall..Only one thing, beware coz it's so boring..
DO NOT TAKE HIM! The academic advisors will tell you the same. He is HORRIBLE!! Very boring, unprepared, always rushing, and unorganized teaching style. This class is hard. If you are not good with stats forget about it.
I did every single assignment in this class, I came to every class, I read every chapter, and I still got a D-, even though I've aced most every other more difficult class of this kind that I've taken. Weird personality aside, he is not a competent teacher and I do not recommend him to anyone.
Gives answers for tests in lectures and tests are open notes. Will give feedback on papers before they are due. Easy A as long as you get the notes for lecture and turn in papers. He is weird, comes in with very dirty clothes on.
THE best Professor I've ever had! Right to the point, gives so precise notes! He is a sweetheart even though looks tough on the outside. Will he help u & do anything for u, as long as u're asking for help. Most of the students are fooled by his tough appereance, so they don't come talk to him. He's so sweet, nice, understanding on the inside.
I must say, I really liked him. Yes, he is a hard grader but, as long as you show up to class and listen to him, you will do just fine! He tells you exactly what to study and gives you the exact notes you will need to study. He is also very helpful if you see him one-on-one. He urges students to seek help and if you want a good grade, see him!
had him for 230 & 300. hard classes, hard grader, difficult material, very boring (does make some jokes). go to his office hours, go to every class, he has two research papers that require lots of work, start early and go to his office for help. take someone else for 230 if at all possible. you must know your stats
I like this prof. very clear and very organized. teaches well, made me understand the material much better than when I took this class with another prof. I can say that this prof. compared to others helps with the papers more, he actually does the stats for you so that you can concentrate on how to develop and write study paper+humor is kinda funny
Not a hard class at all. He gives you study guides that resemble the exams, plus he lets you you use your notes on the analysis part of the exam. Just study off the study guides and try to write a descent final paper and you should be able to get an A. He is a little on the weird side, but at least he TRIES to be funny!
Don't take it with him! Very hard class for it being a 200 course.
if you can overcome his gloom and doom attitude, and the I'm smarter and better than you attitude, he is a decent professor. Expect a negitive attitude in the begining, and expect to go to office hours, or you wont do well.Boring lectures, but thats the material mixed with dry humor.
Weird teacher... very dry. If I have to hear one more thing about 'shyness' and 'depression' topics, I will scream!
Ever notice the correlation to teacher reviews and the grade given? Usually people that bash teachers got a bad grade. Dr. Trof is really nice and has his unique sense of humor. He cracked me up. Get past the high school judgements on him and do the work and you'll get an A.
No matter what any reviews say, you're screwed. Hes the only prof teaching this class, tries too hard with lame jokes. Overwhelming notes, study guides help alot. No reading required. You need outside time spent with him to do well. Unfair with atendance, walk in 30sec after he calls role and you wont get credit, just show up and you might do well.
TO DEMANDING
He's not a good teacher. His lectures are too long and he expects a lot out of the course. He teaches a lower-division class as if it is a graduate course. He's boring and he says corny jokes. Attendance is mandatory, and if you miss a day, it seems like you're screwed. Take another teacher if you can! do not take his class!
His lectures are dry but overall he's nice. As long as you're willing to put in the effort you'll do fine in his class.
The sweetest guy ever! This prof makes everything perfectly clear. His expectations are simple: Show up and do your work. The workload is easy as long as you come to class and do it. His lectures are really clear and he goes over concepts again and again. There are no surprises if you listen in class at all. Do the write ups and take the tests.
Correltion for the "psychologist" 6 comments ago on 10/9/07. Teacher review = horrible. Grade earned = A. Class is doable but it wil be very tough with this guy.
class was tough but the professor was very helpful....test was easy and lab too just show up to class you will pass =)
He knows how to teach this class very well. Take good notes and review them regularly. To make studing easier you must show up to class because he uses a lot of repetition in teaching the content. He is very clear so just do exactly what he says and you will get a good grade. He truly wants his students to succeed in the class.
This was the easiest class I've taken, and he's a helpful guy. His lectures are staright to the point, and during lab, he answers questions and helps with write ups.He has a study guide that SO helpful for the final. Practically verbatim. If you do understand all your labs, the lab part of the exam is very easy especially since he allows notes.
I really dont know why he has a bad review face symbol thing. I am not into or good at stats at all! However I am doing fine! He is the sweetest guy! Always available to help with anything! Posts study guide, will review al your work before its due to make sure its right. Really into his students and their success! He makes a boring class, fun!
very professional teacher. organized and moderate material to learn. keep up with all the labs and go to class and you will have no problem passing the class. kind of boring material but very clear and helpful for the tests. he is always avaiable to help.
very professional teacher. long classes with uninteresting material. he presents his lectures well and is always available to help. for the research paper, keep up with the check points because it sucks having to write it at the end. quizes are easy and alot of extra credit on each quiz and the labs aren't too difficult and a lot of time 2 finish
We had a rough start but after I went to his office hours and discussed the class with him things turned for the better. The material isn't hard to understand, it's just EXTREMELY boring and he's a monotone lecturer so that make it hard to comprehend. One midterm, one final+ X2 lab write-ups (have him go over these, you get better scores!)
The material is not hard but will definitely challenge you but he will give you a good foundation. Make sure you balance this class with easier classes. There is one mid-term and a final along with a final paper. If you keep up on the check points for the final paper you will be fine. He has a study guide that will be helpful for the quizzes, mid-
This class is just extremely boring.. the teacher is fine and he tries to joke around which is nice. This class seemed very pointless to me, could've been mixed with research methods. Midterm was pretty easy, I'm a little worried about the final, SPSS is no fun! Hard to keep up with this material since there is no homework. Have fun!
Trofimoff is definitely a nice guy and tries to make the class entertaining but the subject sucks so much its hard to do that. VERY dry and boring class. Don't buy the book, you won't open it at all. Doing the computer work and exercises is easy and he's very helpful. 1 midterm, 1 final...relatively easy but don't underestimate the written part
Trofimoff makes me want to rip my hair out every class! He is the most awkward person I have ever met and his classes are so boring. He doesn't use scantrons for his tests and he doesn't grade consistently. He takes himself way too seriously and treats his students like a classroom full of 2 year olds. I dread going to his class!
This professor only helps his favorite students. I've emailed him several times throughout the semester and he never responded back. Gives extra credit but it doesn't help much. He is boring and makes me want to fall asleep. If you can take this course with another teacher!!!
Do not recommend. You have no idea how you are doing until after the mid-term, and even then it is hard to pin-point. As your reeling from the C (majority grade) he quickly goes over the exam and then takes it back-leaving little time for review. Computer portion never reviewed, so you don't know what you did wrong. Makes it hard to improve grade.
The class its okay in terms of material but he can get so boring. You can tell he is trying hard to make interesting but to be honest it hardly works is just a boring professor. Never understood his grading system I feel like I learned all the material, I can use SPSS, Prism and do reports on them but since I couldn't "master" his type of exams:C!
This professor is the best that I have ever had. If you come to class and actually take notes on the lectures you will find that he spells everything out that you will need to know on the exams. He is well prepared and thorough and I have learned the most from his class than any other that I have taken in my college career. He has an extremely dry
Dr. Trofimoff is great. Lectures can get a little boring and you have to take good notes. He is extremely helpful and offers a lot of feedback. He's very passionate about the subject. As long as you show up for class, take good notes, and use his midterm and final reviews you'll do fine. The paper isn't too hard either. Not a class for slackers!
I thought he was a very helpful teacher..explains hard concepts into basic terms/meaning. I was dreading the class thinking it was going to be difficult but he breaks it down and makes it very understandable. His humor's is a little dry but I laughed here and there, at least he tries right? I enjoyed the class and appreciated his teaching style.
Trofimoff is REALLY clear on teaching however his midterm and final are EXTREMELY difficult and as much effort you put into studying the both reviews guides, they only helps a little. Questions on his exams are very wordy and you have to put a lot of thought when answering the them. Extra credit helps very little. GOOD LUCK! That's all I can say.
first off this professor is not funny & i wouldn't be writing that, but he keeps on making bad jokes and asking 'does anyone know this' to such obvious things that it gets irritating. He is very snotty and not helpful, and ill be avoiding his classes and him like a plague. Ive never gotten a B- and had to work my butt off, so expect a hard class.
Boring lectures and material, but he is very helpful and understanding. Jury paper, midterm, and final are HARD! Studying can't prepare you enough. Long study guides that don't help as much as they should. I worked my butt off for an A-, but couldn't have done it without going to his office hours and asking for help.
He tries to make stats fun and add in jokes, and is a great teacher considering the subject is very hard.
Great professor but difficult material but as long as you up with the atudy guides and jury paper you'll be fine. Very helpful as well.
Pure, unrivaled torture. His expectation that students will be able to retain so many abstract stats concepts for the midterm and final, especially with a full course load, is beyond unrealistic. Save yourself the aggravation.
Honestly, class is tough, but if you ask for help he will give it to you. Yes its torture but if you have to take it I would take it with him. He knows his stuff.
Take this class before you take your labs! It will help you with understanding hypothesis questions, gathering data, and learning how to run results. Go to his office hours- he will check your hw for you to ensure you get full points every week. Go to class and you really don't have to study b/c there is no book! Easy A or B if you attend class!
He is so funny! The class is boring but it is really easy. He gives you a lot of opportunity for extra credit. You do have a 10 page paper due at the end of the semester but he gives you a lot of help with writing it. You don't need the book he gives you everything you need in power point.
Great teacher! Very helpful. Take good notes and read the book for the things you don't understand. Good powerpoints that help you study. Extra Credit helps too. Overall, a caring professor who wants you to learn. Put effort into studying. You pay to learn not grade grub. He will prepare you for upper division and Grad school!
If you have an option to have another teacher take it! He doesn't really care about his students, I always go to him for help and he always says: "I dont have time to help you, go to the TA." He purposely makes this class harder than it needs to be. take it with Eso!
This is a great professor, he really wants his students to learn the material and gives alot of opportunities to succed. study for the midterm and final and write a good 10 page paper and you will do fine.
Professor is not motivational. He does not make the subject "interesting" but rather very complex and confusing. Treats students like 2nd graders, learning the subject becomes very stressful when he uses examples that are not going to help for the exam. Not forgiving with papers or quizzes. Needs to work on teaching and more aspects.
Horrible professor, will never recommend. Never failed a class until his. He is condescending and rude, no help offered. Unless you want to be confused dont take his class
Needs to work on his attitude and he is very rude and sarcastic. He is not a forgiving professor, If you are wrong you are wrong, and he will not be forgiving on the labs and essays on the tests.
Hard material to learn but he really takes the time to teach, always answers questions, really wants students to learn! Dedicates a full class or two just to practice midterm and final questions and essays. gives you great detailed study guides etc.. and is really helpful with the research paper, helps us work on it all semester!
I have never failed a class in the university. All I can say is don't take his class, too stressful, Trofimoff is very rude and just not good in terms of personality.
Good class a lot of work but if you keep up you will earn a good grade. 1 big paper and he'll help you through it, you can quietly work with another person during quizes (on the computer) A lot of info for midterm and final but you have a study guide.
Some students liked him. Which is very difficult to understand why? I personally didn't really understand Dr. trofimoff and didn't like the way he frustrated his class by repeating the class rules over and over again (which interrupted and distracted so much during his lectures. Very confusing, not friendly, and a hard grader.
He'll straight up tell you when something similar is going to be on a test which was helpful in planning what to study. The class itself is just very long, but you have to attend lectures and labs to pass.
great class difficult
Do not take his class! Trust me. I'm a pretty good student and still found his class to be difficult. His lectures are so boring and not helpful. He consistently interrupts the class to say, "I would really recommend taking notes." DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! I never used mine. He says he doesn't like what the book's definitions are. Waste of money.
Where can I start? Prof Troff was a trip. At first, I kind of liked him. That is until he repeated the class rules a MILLION times and then told me my research paper was good but gave me a C- on it! Do yourself a favor and take professor Eso for this class. You won't regret it.
His class was involved, but it's a stats class so it's going to be like that regardless. He also has his ways of going about things.. if you go to class and pay attention then you get a good grade. If you don't go to class then you get a bad grade. I personally liked him a lot and learned a lot of valuable info compared to other stat classes.
The content is rather boring, but he tries to make it bearable and interesting for the students. With opportunities for extra credit and the grade curving, it shouldn't be that difficult to get a good grade. Lectures are a must if you want to understand the material better for the test. He's always willing to help you understand something better.
Really boring professor and very hard to deal with at times. He is an ok teacher, but he does not make the subject any fun. He is a very tough grader and is not lenient on anything. Sometimes I would get 100% on labs sometimes I would get 50% even if they were completed. Makes no sense. Try to take Eso if you can.
Had him for social psych as well. Smart guy, but a boring monotone person - he can't help it but lectures of PP make you want to sleep. Fairly challenging but he is quite smart, and what you learn in his methods class will HELP SOOO MUCH later on if your a psych major. Good professor, just sad his classes are so boring
Don't know what everyone's deal is with Dr. Trofimoff, I think he's great. Lecture is interesting, he's funny (though dry), and expectations are straight-forward. And he grades on a curve. There's no reason why you shouldn't do well. I will definitely be taking him for a lab next semester!
He gives extra credit and grades on a curve. Take him if you are a psych/ human development major. I will take him for social psych. He is very passionate about the subject. He gets a lot of bad rap but if you want to learn something while getting a good grade with extra credit opportunities, take him. Quizzes are all group too!
This class made me cringe. I found him to be very, very annoying. During his lectures, he would constantly say people should not be using their computers to take notes because they tend to fail. rediculous. What if online notes are helpful for me? I passed with good grade and answered questions. Also, his "jokes" are god aweful. I don't recommend
Professor Trofimoff is a great professor. I took his class a few years ago, and his materials are the only materials I still use to this day. If you actually plan to have a career in psychology, you will be SO grateful you took his class.
wasnt impressed
Absolutely love Trofimoff! He really enjoys what he does and is very helpful. I took him over summer and was terrified for a 5 week class. But he does an amazing job at teaching. Absolutely recommend him!
Very dry, with dad-humor! Bad jokes, but it was an awesome class, super fast cuz it was during the summer, but attendance is crucial in order to pass...I never read the text except to pull out a few key terms.. He said those who take summer class usually get a better grade than those in a regular semester
Not as bad as I thought he was going to be, yes he has a dry sense of humor but overall hes a good teacher. never used the textbooks, take very good notes!! hard class in general. he really does try to help his students, attendance is mandatory and you can never be late!
Absolutely horrible. He is disrespectful and calls you out in class. Take any other professor then him. He is rude and tells you you will not pass. He repeats himself and rules over and over again when we are trying to learn. I have never felt so humiliated by a teacher ever.
Dr. Trofimoff is the most organized professor ever. He literally has test grades posted minutes after you've taken them. His lectures are super interesting and his presentation style is so clear and concise. I also found him to have a very calming energy. Not an anxiety provoking class whatsoever. Don't get the bad rap at all.
The class is challenging, lecture is long, hour and 50,also a lab but he lectures during those for a majority of the time. Makes dumb but semi funny jokes. The pros of this class: grade curve(woo), extra credit, and group quizzes. There is a 10 page paper but he basically outlines the whole thing for you in a powerpoint. So dont be too scared haha
ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS! Very clear and always organized with his teaching; always has an agenda and follows it. He says you need the book, but he power points that he discusses that summarize the books. Amazing TEACHER! He curves every grade to the highest in the class so it's really hard for you to fail! He loves to help so go tohis office hours
The class is pretty easy as long as you go to class and pay attention to his lectures. He gives out a study guide at the beginning of the semester, so as long as you complete that you will do well on the two tests. He helps out immensely with the research paper- just stay on top of your work from the beginning and you will do fine!
Professor Trofimoff is your average professor. No surprises, sticks to the syllabus. Lectures are a little dry. Very slow to reply to emails, only seems to want to help if you go to his office hours.
Lectures are well suited for me because his lecture style is interactive and the examples are memorable. Don't expect the ppt slides to replace the actual book; they are there to serve as guidelines for the lectures. Exams are long and a bit tough. His tangents are fine-people just want to complain about something. Go to class and take good notes.
Hands down the best professor i have ever had and I'm a senior. He wants you to learn and if you work hard you will!! I wish I had him before because he teaches skill sets that will last a lifetime.
Hes very engaged when it comes to teaching and he really cares about making sure you understand the material. However, there were times when the workload gets overwhelming. I often found myself having a hard time balancing all the assignments. Great professor, but just be sure to do the work on time or else youll find yourself in the same position
He has some clear control issues, and therefore reverts to excessive warnings about how things can be done only in a very specific manner during very dry lectures. You should be able to design and execute your own experiment, but he makes you do the same one he has done for 8 yrs. While easy, it is boring and limits your learning. He's smart, but..
There are two exams, two quizzes, two rough draft checks for a research paper, lab assignments, and a research paper at the end of the semester. The class is not difficult, just do the work and study guides and you'll be fine. Don't buy the textbooks. You can get all the information you need from the PowerPoint slides, which are posted online.
I enjoyed his class and he made social psychology very interesting. There are three article critiques, 5 question online quizzes every week, and almost weekly 1-2 page application papers. Study the powerpoints and notes from in class to do well on the tests. Class is also curved based on the high point total which helped out a lot of students.
You need to show up to class in order to pass. Work on study guides throughout the semester because if you wait it's a struggle. No need for the book
Overall, he seemed super stressed out and frantic the whole time. Did not give good advice towards studying for the tests. Study the PowerPoints, they will really help you on the exams (despite what he says). His office hours are a waste, do not bother going to them- he will not help you at all. I hated the weekly quizzes, they were super hard. ehh
This class is a waste of time. Everything we're "learning" in this class you can get from P. Fitzpatrick within the first two weeks of her lecture of any class. Spends way too much time on too specific details that don't really matter and has obvious control issues. Doesn't respect his students, he acts like we're 12. Good for beg. psych majors.
Dr. Trofimoff, in my opinion, was a good professor. Organized, on-time, and shows effort in student learning. He grades on a curve and gives away free candy! what more do you want!? Took the class during the summer and it was intense. If you can avoid it, do it. And if not, well good luck.
Very enthusiastic and organized. Every class is structured with a lecture that aligns perfectly to the textbook. He says class is mandatory but doesn't deduct points if you skip. His jokes are corny, but overall he explains all the material really well. Biggest advice: DO NOT buy the connect passcode for the textbook. Waste of money.
Took this class over summer and I am so glad its over. He is really organized and really great at teaching but he is super controlling. He does not seem like he wants to answer students' questions and almost puts down students' ideas that contribute to lecture. 6 1-2 page application papers, 3 tests, and 10 easy online quizzes. Not too bad overall.
VT is very organized which makes his lectures really easy to follow. He has a way of explaining a difficult topic in a way that anyone can understand. His class builds confidence and his study guides teach you how to study efficiently. He sets everyone up to be successful from day one. Don't text in class. It's disrespectful!
His lectures are so dry, he tries to make jokes that aren't funny and he'll call you out for not reacting to the things he says or for using your phone or if you eat in class. No electronics are allowed, only hand written notes. He also makes rude comments and is not open to other's opinions and will shut you down. Takes attendance everyday.
This class is not the most interesting class, lectures are super boring, but what can you expect from research methods? He teachers the material pretty well. First half of the class is super easy, second half is way harder. Biggest advice: DO THE STUDY GUIDE. helps so much with the midterm and quizzes. Research paper isn't even that bad.
Nice professor but would not recommend this class. The lectures are long and hard to understand. Your grade is dependent on the 3 exams which are two midterms that consist of 5 to 6 chapters of material that you have to read every section of the book to know whats on it and a final that is cumulative. Tough grader and takes daily attendance.
From the first week of classes, he called me out for not following his class policies. Once, for supposedly being on my phone when I was looking directly at him taking notes (not on my phone), and in another for nodding off but trying hard to stay awake and take notes. He advised me to drop due to a lack of attendance but I passed with a B.
One of the worst professors. He's picky about absolutely everything. Starts class five minutes before the actual scheduled time. Didn't respond when I asked for individual help. Study guides are extremely long and helped little to none. Thought I was going to fail the class because he said our grades couldn't be calculated til the very end.
I had never been so stressed as I was while taking this class. Even going to his class gave me anxiety since his personality is not of an easy going professor. He has control issues and although he knows a lot about the topic is difficult to approach him for help due to how he acts in class. If you can, take another professor, if not good luck!
Terrible! Stay Away! His tests are extremely hard and he is a brutal grader. I have taken many upper division psych courses that were like 1/4 of the work. He has a giant ego and is not helpful at all. Take it with a different professor or at Palomar. He grades it all on a curve so you never know how you are doing until the end. Stressful!
He is a really good guy. He tries to be funny & he isn't which annoyed some people, but at least he tries to make Statistics fun. There is a study guide for the midterm & the final & he goes over it in class AS LONG AS STUDENTS ASK THE QUESTIONS. You can literally ask every question on the study guide and he will go over it. Study it & you'll pass!
You must attend class in order to get a decent grade. His lectures help you to understand all of the material for the tests & provides a study guide with all of the information needed for the tests. A LOT of extra credit available. He gives you all of the info in order to write the research paper. Super easy A if you show up.
If you can take this class with another professor, I would highly recommend that. He's very meticulous on how he grades things, and will dock points if not answered how he likes it. He also uses a randomizer to pick on students to participate.
This class was the death of me!! hes a nice guy tho. Went the whole semester not understanding anything then I finally got it in the end, the lectures are so long and so boring. There are study guides for the exams but they are like 10 pages long, do the assignments and the extra credit you will need it, long Research paper, the TA saved my grade
Lecture is the majority of the class. Lab due once a week. One research paper due at the end of the semester, the one thing he is willing to help with. Midterm and Final is MC as well as short answer. Four or so quizzes taken online. Some extra credit but it is not easy to get points. Very condescending sometimes and tries and fails to be funny
One lab due per week and Dr. Trofimoff gives you the last hour to work on it, promoting students to ask him questions to see if they are on track. It is lecture heavy, but he keeps students on their toes by asking lots of Q's, mostly easy, critical thinking q's. If you're at university to better your knowledge for your career path, I'd recommend.
he talks negatively about students, life his own kids that it makes some uncomfortable. He likes calling ppl out and putting them on the spot. at one point everytime this guy volunteered to answer a question, vince would say say degrading things to him. he also grades diaries based on if he likes you or not so stay on his good side & youll be good
online quizzes, 7 short papers, and 3 exams. His cynicism is hard to sit through but work isn't hard. the way he grades the papers is based on if you go to class but claims to grade it based off rubric. I attend class regularly, wrote some awful papers and get As, my buddy who rarely comes to class writes great papers and gets Ds. Play wisely!
AVOID HIM. INCREDIBLY rude to students for absolutely no reason. Singles out students and talks about it for 20 minutes. Not a bad lecturer, but his personality makes class unbearable. SUPER hard grader. If it is not EXACTLY what he wants, you're wrong. Very hard exams. He curves, but literally NOBODY in my class got As on the exams. Good luck.
I had Trof Psy 230 and did not like him. But for Psyc 332 he is different! This class has a 5 question online quiz per 1-2 weeks, along with an application paper (1-2 pgs) often but theyre simple and Journal article critiques (3, 5+ pgs) are the worst part. Also 3 exams. lectures were interesting. No attendance but youll be lost if you skip often.
Trofimoff truly cares about his students and is extremely helpful whenever you ask a question or need clarification. He is very good at teaching the material, but I don't recommend skipping his class because everyday he goes over a lot of material and goes very fast. I think most people who don't like his class are the ones skipping & now behind.
He cares but his class is very difficult, a lot of work!
Worst professor ive ever had. He not only doesnt care that theres a pandemic and other struggles going on but also lies and grades students harder than he should. Ill be honest yes I wasnt the best student but he was equally not the best professor. Apparently hes the only psych 230 professor at CSUSM so ill be retaking at another school.
He did his best to accommodate students who emailed him for assistance. He curves EVERYTHING based on the highest grade a student receives. Since the class was asynchronous, youll really need to discipline yourself to complete everything or else it will snowball...
This is the worst class I have taken in all of my college courses. Professor Trofimoff is an extremely tough grader with diary entries and his tests are extremely hard as well and worth almost your whole grade. I felt like I was lost almost the whole semester because of how fast he went during lectures.
Professor Vince was one of the worst professors I have ever had. He genuinely made me feel uncomfortable to be in his class, he never responded to anyone's emails in a timely fashion, he did not have clear instructions, and he graded very hard. I will not be taking his classes again if i have a choice.
Professor Trofimoff is one of the rare professors that actually care about what he is teaching and it shows. I scored perfect on all of the diary entries with minimal effort. I was able to improve my testing scores each time by following the study guide. Prof. makes it very clear what needs to be done to get an A and makes himself available to help
1 midterm, 1 final, 1 group project, 1 quantitative research paper, 4 quizzes, 11 lab assignments. Midterm/Final review packet is very helpful. It's important to understand concepts and be able to relate it to real life examples. Going to office hours good feedback. Total points is based off of the highest score in all of his classes.
Clear grading criteria, simple lectures, labs are easy to do, group project and paper clearly outlined. Gives you as much help as you ask for.
He is very knowledgeable about the course and teaches the lectures well. You have to actively go to class to really understand the material and study a lot of tests ahead of time. He is available outside of class for help, lots of lab assignments that are graded tough. Its hard material to learn so participation is the main thing that matters.
The classes are extremely lecture-heavy so attendance is essential. As long as you keep track of deadlines, the class is easy to pass. He gives out one assignment per week plus 2 large projects and a few tests and quizzes. He is very straightforward and helps students out generously. Also tells dad jokes so laugh at them occasionally :)
amazing professor, gave every opportunity he had to make sure his students succeed, This class is very lecture heavy, however I learned A LOT from his class. Trofimoff, is very easy to reach out to, understanding, and passionate about the lectures. One thing is make sure you STUDY for quizzes and exams bc they are difficult (but class is curved! )
Research methods is a difficult subject but Trofimoff does an excellent job teaching.
I am the first to admit this course isn't easy; I'll tell you this truth without reservation. At the same time, you shouldn't scare off potential students. The material we learn in this class is challenging to understand. Still, Professor Trofimoff does a fantastic job of making it easier to understand.
I'd say he's one of the most difficult professors I've had. His lectures are interesting and have a ton of info, a lot of which you won't get from the ppt. slides, so attendance is very important. I found the silence after his attempts at a joke was funnier than the joke itself. Utilize his office hours if you can! (believe me, you will need help)
His lectures are very long and he reads off of slides that have way too much info on them. Your grade comes down to 5 written assignments, 2 midterms, a cumulative final, and a couple quizzes. Exams are multiple choice but they are still difficult and he is a tough grader when it comes to the written assignments.
This professor is one of the better ones in the Psychology department. He is required to do certain things in his classes, so the tough papers and tests are not fully his fault. With that being said, he will help you as much as he can with these tests and papers. He is a teacher who really cares about his students as long as his students care.
The professor expects you to write answers a certain way, but when grading he takes away points for not doing it how he expects you to do it (his examples) or for not rephrasing your work in your own words. He's confusing. There's more but I won't proceed....
I took Psyc of Prej with him, which he is passionate about and it is evident in his lectures. Hard class but, he provides the necessary criteria to do well, study guides, feedback. Can be obnoxious when it comes to computers/iPads in class (even if you're using them to take notes) overall a decent prof, if you care about succeeding, he does too.
This professor is invested in students' success but has a few quirks. He frequently complains about electronics in class and insists on specific study methods, warning that deviating from them could lead to failure. The class is heavy on lectures and assignments, but if you study diligently and follow his guidelines, you'll do well.
Worst class I've ever taken.
kind of a boring lecture, 10 quizzes, 3 exams, 5 papers/diary entries. not a bad professor, you can tell he really enjoys teaching this course, just overall no depth to it. he does provide study guides which help, his first exam is one to study for more as you have to remember a lot of key terms, but graded on a curve. overall not a bad class ig
Lots of lecturing, but his slides are effective. Very good at explaining concepts. Grumpy tone but is actually sociable and helpful. He makes study guides for each chapter; if you fill these out and properly study, you will do well on exams. You really earn your grade in this class!
STUDY FOR YOUR TEST
The projects in this class are difficult & take months to do. One huge project where one person in the group has to do the SPSS data alone and then have to do separate projects aside from that in his class. He assigned a tedious project, an essay, an experiment in one month. The TA's are fail happy so don't take him for this class, passing is hard.
He is inconsiderate, and drones on in class. He piles up on projects and a ton of classwork & wants you to get the multiple homework assignments done; but still work on the projects he assigns. His Powerpoints are made of two units, and the longer the class, the longer the slides. Take a different professor if you need this course.
Take negative reviews of Vince Trofimoff with a grain of salt as many students who complain and have low grades often don't stay for lab or ask for feedback, and dislike that they can't use AI to cheat on the exams. He provides good feedback when asked and makes boring lectures decently tolerable. This is a difficult class no matter the professor.
Take good reviews with a grain of salt and do not let this be a class that you take out of hope. The graduate students are grading your work, he crams everything into one lecture, and there are other teachers more understanding than him. Take someone else, it's a hard course so do not take it with Trofimoff. Bad reviews are true, trust me.
