A lot of reading but not a bad class. Teacher's ok. It's kinda easy. Very easy if you do the reading but you can def get away w/o reading if you take class notes. Two papers, midterm and final. Maybe 3-4 graded hw and 2-3 quizzes, sometimes surprise.
His Tests are reasonable. He gives extra credit if you need it and he always takes youe advise into consideration. Base on his lecture, he is a very good professor and easy to talk to

cool teacher. had him before. expects you to do work but explains alot of the stuff in class. strict with attendance and lateness. as long as you hand in the work, you're ok. pretty easy grader. not too much reading.
He's ok, he's kinda weird, not all there up there u know? .... but at times he's interesting, and you actually learn something in this class.
A LOT OF READING. otherwise very nice, and cool.lets you get away with a lot. owesome and fun, but be ready to read
A lot of reading. He's not too tough on your essays. His tests cover a lot. He's too excited about the boring material. Overall, he probably one of the easier IDC teachers. Not to mention: he's "I"-talian
He's alright. Gotta suck up.
A LOT OF READING, it's CRAZY. About 100 pages a day or more! He probably thinks we don't have to read for other classes. Overall a nice guy, but tough. Not recommended
There was a LOT of reading. It was almost impossible for me to keep up with all the reading considering I did have other classes to work for.
too much work, had to buy 6 books for the class to read 20 pages from each. hes not too tough on the essays, but u cant say hes easy. if u have no other choice, take him, you wont suffer too much otherwise take another teacher.

Do NOT take this professor. There are six textbooks for his one class and you'll spend your life reading. His assignments are simple, but are not even worth much. His final was the worst final I've ever taken, and brought me down from an A to a B+.
A lot of reading, as previously mentioned, and you basically teach the whole history of NYC to yourself; his contribution is minimal. 3 papers-first is a joke, second and third aren't too difficult. Final is an even bigger joke (5 min test). Midterm very manageable. Subject is fascinating though.
I don't know what problems people had with him when they took IDC. I'll admit he's not the most competent Prof but the reading is some of the best you'll ever do about NYC. I never had a problem cause the material was so interesting i read ahead. Tests and essays are among the easiest also.
This guy is the nicest and most interesting person you will ever meet. Even though he assigns a lot of reading, they are interesting. Just be sure to keep up with the readings and you will definately get an A. The professor is also the best history teacher because you can tell he loves to teach.
really good prof. just pay attention!!
Good Professor, knows what he is talking about. Just too much reading, six books a semester is insane. I hope he does not believe that everyone reads them. Focuses too much on the Depression and children, but i guess thats his speciality. When you're finished you will know everything about children.
TOO MUCH reading/work to keep up w/especially when you have other classes to study for as well. He must think students only take one class!Midterm, finalexam, one 5-7pg paper, and weekly quizzes, homework, and journal assignments.TOO MUCH!
he gives 2005 class questions for students to study. too much reading which no one can keep up. weekly quize kills students, half of class don't know how to answer his question.
chill and laid back guy, very nice -loves to hear wat u have to say.gets pretty passionate about american history(people and culture is his knowledge).reading can be much, but nobody reads everythin.easy overall, just participate and write the papers-they aint hard at all,and ul get your good grade
boring lectures. grades papers harshly. doesn't help in group projects, just leaves us by ourselves and looks at final result.ridiculous amt of reading. read invisible man in less than a week. gives 1 errk notice for papers. participate in class.
This is the first time I really understood American history. Lots of images with lectuers, good videos. Early morning quizzes abummer. Some great discussions. Will let you rewrite your papers and gives extra credit. Not easy, but I learned a lot.
This guy is one of those prof that knows a whole lot and expects you to know just as much. I'll agree, the reading is INSANE(500+ pages textbook, 3 novels, speeches, documents, AND MORE) but he doesn't give homework instead goes over a highlight of the reading. As a grader, he gives you a better grade if you put the effort. He's a 50/50, got A-.
The reading can be daunting-there's a lot of it. Besides the reading, though, he doesn't give much homework. Lectures are good, discussions are great. If you put in the effort, you'll do well.
prof. isnt easy. good lectures and good study sheets for exams will definityly help you out alot. ALOOOT OF WORK. SO BE READY.!
Very good at teaching, the only thing he has to work on is thinking before speaking. He often isolates students with his off the record comments, and can often shoot down any original opinions in a jerk-like fashion. He once graded a friends paper lower simply because he disagreed with him on something. Also has almost no fashion sense at all.
He was one of a few professors in my entire college education that I thought actually taught me something worthwhile. Not all professors put the time in grading papers. He caught all my mistakes, but I learned from it.
A great professor and a true educator. I learned so much from him & enjoyed the way he lead the class in various discussions. The readings were wonderful and the manner in which I read a text has greatly improved. He is a very decent and fair-minded individual. Of the history classes I've taken at Baruch, this was the most interesting.
wonderful professor. can be a bit disorganized but it prevents the class from being boring. Very knowledgable and understanding. I learned a lot from the class, highly recommended
I took themes in American History. He definitely knows his stuff and loves teaching it. I enjoyed his class, he kept it interesting. There was a lot of reading, but if you keep up you will do fine. I didn't stress over anything in the class and ended up with an A. I recommend him.
He was pretty cool. The class was easy and interesting. Not bad after all. His tests were easy and fair. If you read the materal and pay attention in class, you are guaranteed an A. He bearly gives homework, you just need to read the documents addigned.
do yourselves a favor dont take him i would know because i have him now and i HATE that class with a passion! hes so confusing says a quiz is on one thing, ends up being on another and grades papers VERY UNFAIRLY! my whole class argues with him about this all the time please i beg you if you want a B or better in history DONT TAKE HIM PLEASE!
Very unorganized. He left no room for a midterm on syllabus. Had a scheduled final and canceled it, and replaced it with two papers. Harsh grader on papers, no curves on that. The midterm was extremely tricky, but he did give a handsome curve. He will listen if you have any concerns. Overall, he knows his stuff and he's a fair grader.
This guy is a joke of a teacher , isn't organized and expects you to read more than 3 books. Does he not realize people have more than just his class to worry about? Tests are hard and tricky. Save your time and not take him. This is suppose to be an intro coarse not this difficult.
Well. The ups:if you need help he is always there for you! he knows ALOT about his stuff. Down: he expects you to know a lot. when he grades 1-grammar 2-your opinion better match his.he is very fickle. mid exam was hard(from teachers'book even he said he got answers wrong when he took it).demands respect!(but honestly he deserves it).Participate!
put me to sleep. boring, never payed attention. very disorganized, but still managed a B+
He is a hard grader, I have study so much for this class that I thought I was going to fail it. There are like 4 books for this class, two of which you have to read for each class, impossible to keep up with the reading. He is all aver the place when he is teaching.
I think the professor is really passionate about his subject. He is very informative and provides an interesting perspective on often otherwise boring historical events. A lot of fun in this class.
Looking at History through children provided an interesting way to learn the subject. Great selection of books. Huck's Raft was really interesting toward the end. I liked The Body Project the best. Professor had great enthusiasm and passion while lecturing.
He's such a cute little Italiam man. He really knows his stuff and is very passionate about the subject. I really enjoyed the subject matter but he spoke to fast making it hard to take notes. Not a fan of his tests and pop quizzes but if you do the homework you'll be prepared.
This is, perhaps, the best professor in Baruch. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject of immigration history and civil rights in general. The class is demanding because there are 4 required books and all must be read from cover to cover. The tests are easy if you've read all the books and paid attention.Take this class!
Fun Class and professor but it demanded a lot of reading and time. Overall, he is very knowledgeable on the suhject matter. class is fun and peppiness. His exam and quiz are not EASY if you don't prepare ppl.
Immigration is a touchy subject. Immigration to America is even touchier, and professor DiGirolamo met the challenge. Great mix of class discussions, lectures, music, photos and very interesting readings. He picked out some of the best reading material I've had the pleasure of exploring (amazing novels, texts and a collection of immigrant writings)
GOOD PROFESSOR
He is a really nice man and good at teaching. I just felt that his exams were really hard and its so difficult to study all that material. Gives just, midterm, final and I think 2 essay somewhere in between. It was difficult for me to pass the exams.
The class was so boring. Professor is not prepared. Can't give a definite answer to your question. His quizzes are tough.
I do not know what people are talking about. if you read the two books and listen to his lectures, the class is so easy. but most importantly, you can learn so much in this class. no wonder people did badly in the exams because they spend the whole time talking during his lecture. but sadly he is too lenient and do nothing about it!
The people who are complaining his class was too hard are the ones who didn't care to pay attention in class or study. every chapter he hands out a guide to exactly what we'll be learning. He's super passionate about history. The class isn't easy but the only way you can't get a good grade is if english isn't your first language.
I absolutely loathed history class in high school. This man made me love it in college. His delivery with multi-media is just the way to go. You wont be disappointed, just do what he asks for and you'll get a great grade.
Very Interestin professor that makes a subject worth listening to. If you study his reviewsheet, read the book, take the online quizes and do a practice essay before the exam you will do well. There are 3exams(multiplechoice,t/f or matching or word def +essay) & 1- 2pg assignment. He is also very helpfull. Easily one of the BEST professors at Baruch.
Professor DiGirolamo is a charming person. He is very passionate about his teaching. The class itself is interesting if you are interested in history. I am not interested but still wasn't bored by this class. He really got everybody going. I liked his class and he is a very funny Italian guy. You do have to do A LOT OF readings in this class.
He is so boring to listen to if History is not ur forte. Hated his class, I felt like everyone was sleeping in his class.. He makes class not interesting
Who said everyone's sleeping in the class? I WASN'T!You do have lots reading but the materials were fun to read. Prof.Digirolamo is awesome! easy going and funny!I truly enjoyed the class! We had to write a paper and seemed like thats the first college paper i enjoyed writing! Oh, he even brought sandwiches to class! thats a PLUS!
Looks like Robin Williams and has the voice of Tom Hanks. He is super funny and very helpful. This professor helped me to love history even more. Do every extra credit assignments he gives, it counts a lot more in the end. Books are all helpful. Don't fall asleep, he's not too tough, but he's so nice, it hurts to see him sad due to bored students.
A very nice guy, very lenient. He tries his best to make history interesting.
Great professor. Very passionate about history. Plenty of work but he made it most of it fun. His lectures were very insightful.
very funny, and he makes me to love history more. he helps outside the classroom. very nice and generous.
Boooooring. Bring a pillow. I, who love history, am telling you this. He rants, he goes off on tangents, he reads pages from the books and he expects you to stay awake. Ha! Imagine that? The most boring class and keeping my eyes open. This should be the plot of the next Mission Impossible movie.
Avoid him! Tough grader, hard exams (some multiple choices, essay, must remember every person's name[a lot of names] and what they said bcuz it's another 1/3 of the test), need to read 4 books. It's just ridiculous! Attendance is required, he takes attendance at the beginning of the class every day! Lots D's and F's on first exam (more than 60%).
This class is amazing. It feels like, whenever he presents material on the program, we experience those events and emotions. Great class!
I appreciate the fact that the professor understood and took into consideration the fact that many students have not attended high-school in America. One of the most interesting thing that he did, was a self-presentation essay to have an idea of everybody's background, which was a key good start for a History Class.
Would NOT recommend if you're bad at history!!! History is my worst subject and his class didn't help at all. His lectures are SUPER boring. He takes forever to hand assignments back. Theres a lot of stuff you need to study for his midterms, but when you take the test its only one page.
His class is boring so you need to know that you should study at home for test alot alone.
Many essays. It wrote five essays in a term. Many students do other things with their notebook because the lecture is soooooo boring
Prof. DiGirolamo is very passionate about the subject that he teaches. He is always there when you need help. However, attendance is a must. It is a writing and reading intensive class: 3 document analysis essays, 3 exams, and 34 quizzes. There are sometimes pop quizzes and the lowest quiz grade will be dropped. Kind in person but not grades.
He's one of the best professors at Baruch! He gives extra credit. His lectures are dense and valuable. And he shakes his hips when he gets excited it's so cute! Everyone loved him. Take notes, though, because his tests can be challenging. 2 essays, 3 tests, no final. Maybe a quiz once in a while, but they don't count for much. Must take class!
Funny guy and decent professor. Lectures are long and can get boring because he is just reading from his notestextbook. Relies on his powerpoint and tries to make the class fun and engaging most times. No homework, two easy document analyses, exams are relatively simple. He is a very easy grader, minimal effort and I did well. He takes attendance!
He gives A LOT of reading. You have to read the entire textbook AND two other history books. However, his exams are not hard at all. If you just go to class takes notes and do the reading, its an easy A. He is disorganized however. He jumps from topic to topic so its hard to follow what time period your in. He's nothing special. Just ehh. Easy A
do not recommend!!! Must read 2 chapter books with 300 pages each!! gives you an exam review sheet, however nothing from the review sheet will be on the exam. Long lectures. if class starts at 2:00 he will be taking attendance by 2:01. ridiculous.
My FAVE prof at baruch so far!! He is very passionate about teaching, and it really shows through his lectures, which I always looked forward to. Not an easy A. You have to work for it, but he is very lenient and is willing to extend deadlines if you simply ask. Also, he does NOT harass girls, as someone said in their review (LOL??)
The subject was not "new" as it was U.S. History which most people went over back in high school. His tests are difficult because he puts things on the exam that he never mentioned or didn't put on the review sheet. Maybe you can get an A by reading and memorizing the names and years of each person mentioned in the book.
The class was quite boring. You need to be prepare to read a lot of books!!!
If you want an A you must read and study both texts and pay attention during the LONG and confusing lectures. If you want to pass with a B or C study the review sheets given prior to the exam. Most of the terms and events on the review sheet will be on the test. You will just have to guess on the rest of the questions and hope for the best.
Great Professor, Helped me so so much getting comfortable with the course. Go to his office hours and ask for any kind of help. Always will help you. Very good with emails. One midterm, One Final and one Essay. Seems like a lot but its very easy!! Get ready to read! Take his class!!!! Very understanding and very easy tests believe me
He assigned 2 books to read and split the readings across the semester in 30 to 50 page increments. Hard to keep up on top of other classes. Lectures are detailed and long that you don't know what to write down. He is very willing to help. very disorganized but knows his subject well. Participation and class discussions matter. But I learned a lot
Very unclear. Gives long readings on 2 graduate-leveled novels, which is a lot for first-semester freshmen taking him. Boring lectures. Whatever he gives you on review paper for final and midterm is there, but you need to do heavy reviewing in order to pass. Extra credit is there.
Took this great gentleman for my first HIS class as a history-minor student. Class was fine if you enjoy history like me, because you do LEARN from him. There were about 5 novel books that we had to read for the semester, which we had to write about for midterm and final essay. I think they were easy essay even though English is not my native. ez A
One of my first professors I had at Baruch. I loved him! His class is heavily based on what he discusses in class and the readings, so be sure to read. He is also very lenient with grades and does provide opportunities for extra credit. I would definitely take his class again. Take notes, participate, read, study, and you're guaranteed an A.
He is really friendly and sweet. He is kinda funny. I feel bad for him since the class kinda takes advantage of him. Even though he is a sweet man.. his class is soon boring. Everyone would fall asleep or not pay attention.
You have a choice, read the textbooks or pay attention in class. Nice guy, willing to help you. When it comes to final time just lightly beg for a review sheet and be sure to thank him when he does, make him feel like hes the best. I ended up setting the curve for the final and got a 100 on it, kinda feel bad for the rest of the class but whatever
He is a really kind and caring professor. The class consists of a couple papers, a midterm, and a final. If you put in the effort to study the material and terms you will do great. He curves the tests and offers review sheets and a lot of extra credit. Great professor, take him!
Worst professor ever.
Exams are curved. Looks the other way when students cheat. If you don't cheat, good luck trying to rescue your grade with the extra credit lectures that take place outside of class hours because cheaters will set the midterm/final curve abnormally high. Avoid if you have academic integrity.
Such an inspirational guy! Very passionate about what he teaches despite the lectures being a bit boring at times. (It's History.... so it's expected) He gives you extra credits and it ABSOLUTELY helps your grades! Just take notes, show up to class and do the study sheet he gives before any exams and you'll do great! The online textbook is a plus!!
Hes a good guy but not such an awesome teacher. His lectures are boring but he makes up for it by giving tons of extra credit. He is clear in grading and how his assignments work. 2 Midterms (tests) and a Final (for me it was not cumulative). Participation/ attendance and homework count a bit, but the extra credit you can receive after that helps.
He is an amazing professor! I recommend him highly as he is one of the most understanding professors at Baruch. He is also super adorable and just a sweet person overall. Just participate in discussions, ask questions, and he will help you on anything and everything!
Im not exactly sure why he has bad reviews tbh, yes his classes can get a bit boring and are sometimes disorganized. hes super kind and caring ( you can always talk to him), cracks a few jokes. your graded mostly by papers and 1 midterm and a final. I actually wanna minor in history cause of him haha. Just get ready to read a LOT!
I never thought I could enjoy history so much, but he really proved me wrong. Rather than textbooks he assigns normal books to read over the course of the semester, which is much better in my opinion. He is very passionate about the subject and it was contagious. Do your work and you will excel. Would definitely take again, my fav professor.
passionate about teaching. clearly he loves his job. his lectures can be a bit boring tho. we had to get books instead of textbooks. one midterm and one final. just the sweetest guy overall, can't say anything bad about him!
SO MUCH READING. His lectures were very boring but informative, if you can stay awake and focus and take notes then you might understand whats happening. he assigns like 4 or 5 books that you have to read or else you will do bad on the midterm and final. he gave us "who said this quote" questions, like bro what?
I believe Professor Digirolamo can teach better by providing more informative slides & talking about the slides rather than just slides with pictures. IMO, he didn't provide study guides that were useful on the midterm & final. I dislike test question like "Who said" b/c there r lots of books to read for this class. There are extra credits though.
-1 midterm, 1 research paper & 1 final -Very passionate and funny, offered extra credit, taught the topics well, curved final exam -Exams were difficult because there was a lot of information you had to know, study guide for final didn't help as much as I hoped -Overall he was good but you have to put in the work to pass this class
He assigns 3-4 books to read throughout the semester. You are graded on 2 papers, a midterm and a final. If you want to do well on the midterm and final, you MUST read the books.
I had him for HIS 1000, and we had a midterm, two papers, and a final that most people in the class failed. A lot of people had their phones out, and he walked past them, saying nothing...which wasn't fair at all. The final was nothing related to the lecture and reading. PLS DO NOT TAKE HIM AS YOUR HISTORY TEACHER! IT'LL BRING YOU GPA DOWN A LOT!
Crazy amount of reading which I didn't do. Do all essays, class thought 2 weren't mandatory, would've gotten an A if so. Tests are nothing like the review sheets. He is funny, though, and knowledgeable but lectures can be boring and long. First day of class pick back seats! Other students regularly AI'ed, so if all others are taken theres your hope
took him my first year, the class wasn't memorable at all besides a lot of readings
this prof is bad do not take him save ur gpa. Drop the class Escape. HE is to skibidi and has no rizz
Good dude, but a bad and boring professor. If you have the option, take another professor. He is chill and understanding, tho, so if you can sit through a boring lecture and pay attention, then by all means. Relatively easy A since the midterm and final are curved.
Professor is a sweetheart, however talks like he is talking to himself. Lots of readings, majority of people don't pay attention and are on their phones. Professor will talk the entire class time and you might fall asleep. I recommend doing his study sheets before test because those will help you. Few assignments but his class is not too bad.
He's a very nice person but sadly he's the worst history professor I've ever taken. I simply could not enjoy his teaching style, it's so disorganized and all over the place. He's an easy grader on assignment/hw, but his way of teaching disappointed me so much. He's also strict on attendance and his tests are really hard. Avoid if you can.
Great dude, you can tell he really loves his field with his provocative questions that spark debate and his constant tangents about American figures. BUT, because of those tangents his lectures are very long and boring, so take some notes and try not to sleep.
Cool guy really passionate about his field however it can get boring sometimes. Does offer extra credit, but some of the study guides don't necessarily correlate to the final.
He gets straight into the lecture, with no introduction or anything. His exams are really weird—he asks us things like, "Who said this quote, where, and when?" It's confusing.
Professor Digirolamo's class has a heavy workload, with lots of reading and writing assignments. However, he makes the material engaging with his knowledgeable and humorous lectures. Though the tests can be challenging, using unstuckstudy alongside the textbook really helped me stay on top of the content.
Super nice guy but not good at teaching. Material all over the place. Lecture disconnected from reading. Tests are straight memorization like a trivia test on huge readings. Again, super nice guy. Got an A because I put in a ton of work studying the readings and crashcourse vids. Review sheets better than reviews make them sound but not great
dont take this prof. Classes were SO boring and not easy to take notes in. Exams were basically memory games with no cheat sheet. Class was just talking about Lincoln which made it boring and we had to read like 4-5 books.
This professor was amazing. He really seemed to care about his students, and was extremely forgiving/helpful when it came to assignments. I've had some pretty bad professors before but he is not that at all. Great guy, amazing teaching style, kind, and all around good at what he does. If I had to take another history course I would take him again.
Super-disorganized, workload is meh, but the deadline for a few homework assignments is quite extreme, there was a reading that had a very short deadline, and it's not great, 150 pages done in 2-3 days. Dropped it due to how stressful it was becoming as an elective.
He requires students to do a lot of reading before his class as homework, and once in a blue moon may require them to take notes if he notices people are not doing the reading but he skims over them when turned in. His tests and quizzes are also based on the readings and wants people to memorize who said or wrote what, so it's mainly memory based.
Terrible Teacher, he went on a 1 hour rant that always deviated then gave us a test that told us to name a 10 books that absolutely destroyed everyone's grades. Don't take this class if you want to have a high GPA. Please save me for the finals. He knows a lot about his subject but doesn't convey it well. TLDR: bad teacher, smart + chill dude
Great professor, grades essays nicely, very personable but readings sometimes feel heavy
He rants for the whole class. The rating is 3.5, which is very deceiving. You have to read 20 plus pages daily, and he'd randomly quiz you on it. He grades easily on essays and is a decent person, but the MPC for midterms and finals was very difficult. He barely gives extra credit and barely rounds up the grades.
This course was frustrating due to poor teaching priorities. Lectures focused more on self-praise, his book, and personal WWII family stories than actual history. Classes lacked structure, key concepts were unclear, and expectations vague. Students largely had to teach themselves. I wouldn't take him even if it the last class needed for Graduation.
PLEASE choose someone else as ur history prof, i BEG you. Boring lectures, tons of reading, and always was talking about his own book 9/10 times. His tests were also always about the most specific things ever, would never recommend him.
