By far the worst Professor in the Business School, super hard grader and a lot of lecture content. Makes the class so much harder than it needs to be and the exams are also really hard. Doesn't care about your well-being as a student or your grade.
The worst professor I've ever had in my life, he falls back on promises he made in not only emails but the syllabus. When you email him for help he does nothing but dodge the question, he is unwilling to help. This is a class everybody in the school of business has to take and they choose the worst professor in the world to "teach" it.
when you take BCOR 121, you better pray that you dont need help, because Vince will either A. ignore your questions or B. not show any care to help. you absolutely HAVE to read every letter of the syllabus because there are so many details that you will NOT know unless you read the syllabus. the work is easy but Vince makes it so much worse.
Assigned a group project with little to no instruction. When asked a question he would talk down on you or tell you to google it. More or less treated you like an idiot when you asked any questions. Changed exam format 3 times, leading to unnecessary stress on his students. Overall, the teaching he presented was incredibly poor.
Cool guy, fun lectures. He's very forgiving with some homework and has open book/ note tests until the class copies the definition from the textbook and then exams are closed book. Lectures are always fun.
The class in and of itself is not dificult, well if you have a windows computer. Vince, on the other hand, is extremely difficult. He is not helpful and very, very rude when it comes to emails. Most of the time they sent to do nothing but degrade the students. This is class is mandatory for B&E and I have not heard of one good experiece with it.
Did not help the students at all and treated us terribly. I couldn't ask him a question without feeling like he thought I was a moron. Objectively Worst Professor in the B&E not out of personal feelings either. I haven't heard a single positive thing about him from my peers.
Vince is the professor for BCOR 121 and it was the WORST class of my life. The class material is easy but the actual class is awful, hard to do, and he offers no help.
Incredibly rude and degrading to his students. Treats us like hes our boss (which I dont think Id let a boss treat me like that) and basically makes fun of you if you ask a question or get something wrong. ALSO grades completely unfairly sometimes! He has assignments where only the top 10 get As and the rest gets 60% so isnt really fair
Very disrespectful and rude. Doesnt really teach and if you have questions be prepared to be humiliated
Easy class but he is so rude to his students... he needs to be reviewed by a superior because he is not it
Never had a teacher degrade me so much
DO NOT TAKE HIM. extremely rude, not clear with assignments, talks down to students... he doesn't belong here.
The course material itself is not hard but he will give you the most arbitrary guidelines for a project that is unfairly graded anyway (if you followed all he asked you for, sorry! If you're not his favorite, expect a 60%) and does not follow his own syllabus. "If you do what you're asked you will get a 70%, minimum!" But 3/5 is 60%? DO. NOT. TAKE.
Very knowledgeable of MIS. Even in an online class of 300+ he does his best to get engagement going at least in the chat. Exams and homework assignments are not hard, especially since exams are open book. Definitely a good professor, not sure why there are so many negative reviews.
I don't understand all the negative reviews of Dobilas. Never had any negative interactions with him. Great professor and very knowledgeable. Class is easy if you pay attention and read the book. Exams are open book and homeworks have multiple attempts. He can be sarcastic but it's never mean spirited. Very kind when reaching out. Awesome guy!
Professor could come off as a bit rude to some people. For me, I did not have any issues with his personality, but I know others have. Class was extremely well organized and everything had its place. Professor did well in lectures, but honestly you could do well in the class by just completing the assignments and listening to lectures. Easy A.
Great teacher, I had him last semester and am taking another class of his next semester. If you attend class and pay attention you won't have any problems passing his classes. plays music before class to set a tone, nice guy.
I have not had Professor Dobilas for any IN-PERSON classes. However, take his ONLINE class. This has been the worst teacher/professor I have ever had in my entire life. He does not help us, tells us NOT to email him, and only gives us 45 minutes to do a 7-part test that has 5 sections. 45 minutes to do 35 tasks on a word doc. He is very unhelpful.
Hated this class. Pointless and so much busy work for no reason
this class should really be in person and im just hoping to pass
This class is horrible, it is a requirement for business majors but if it's optional do not take bcor121, vincent never answers questions in emails only provides office hours which doesn't help when you have class during those hours. You don't learn what's on exams and have to hope for the best.
literally the worst professor ive ever had. I asked him for help so many times and he literally emailed us saying "don't email me with questions". he will dodge every question you have and tell you to join his office hours zooms. I joined the zoom once and it was a TA trying to help. I refuse to believe he actually exists. dropped that class !
Don't know why everyone leaves bad reviews for Vincent. My major is MIS and I loved this class. In this class he prepares you for the real world and treats you as if you are adults. I feel like I actually learned so much in this class rather than just memorizing stuff then forgetting after the test. He's crazy but a really good professor haha!
Absolutely loved his teaching style, he adds a bit of his personal touch during class and you get to know him, he's not a tough grader but his lectures help a lot
SUPER difficult to contact. The class itself is super easy, but hard to contact if having problems with the technology which is very common.
The semester long project is given no clear guidance or rubric. Points are taken off with no explanation.
So glad that BCOR 121 was a class that Dobilas facilitates. My job is so much easier now that I know much more about Office. My boss often asks me questions about Excel which I am able to answer because of this class.
A professor which clearly tells you what is expected, work hard play hard. !
Keeps class fun and interesting. Learned a lot.
I am basing my opinion of the online course and I have not had him in an in-person class. It was one of the worst classes I've ever taken. There is no communication or clarity. In addition, the grading scale was somewhat harsh and created extreme pressure, though the coursework was easy. It would be much better if the class was an in-person class.
He as a terrible communicator and when I would email him with issues that I was having he would brush it off and basically tell me that it wasn't his problem. Terrible class and terrible situation.
This professor is one of the best I've had while at WVU. Be prepared to study but also receive a well-earned grade. This who have spammed bad reviews are from a pile of bad apples that don't understand how to study in a college environment without cheating. Look forward to be entertained and schooled the old-fashion way that works.
Here's the thing people - college is NOT the real world. Prof. Dobilas is trying to give you insight into that. He has a ton of experience, he is very much into promoting diversity. Most of the comments are about "he didn't help me". Everyone that has that opinion is in for a rude awakening once they leave college.
Vince is one of the best professors in the business college. He actually cares about his students and goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is passing. He offers an abundance of extra credit opportunities just by participating in class and doing small participation assignments outside of class. He's really smart and so much fun to listen to.
Being that this was an online class, it should've gone much more smoothly and had the best accessibility over in-person courses. However, my questions never got responses on any of the multiple communication platforms, the penalties on practice and real exams were very harsh, and there were no tutoring or help resources whatsoever.
This was the worst class I have ever taken. Dr Dobilas does not respond to the question forum on ecampus which he wants us to use but when we email him he responds and sounds like we are angering him. This class was not well structured and if it weren't for the youtube videos I looked up, I would not have passed this class.
Professor Dobilas was a great professor, I'm pretty surprised to see so many bad reviews about him. He can be pretty fun to listen to, and as long as you show up to class and do the work you shouldn't have any issues getting an A. Very cool guy.
The worst class by far. A lot of stupid work. The testing site does not even work half the time which makes it hard to pass the test. The test is pass-fail and it's very hard to pass. If you try and email him, he will not respond or he will give you a one to word answer that has nothing really to do with your email.
All of these negative reviews are due to an online course that is taken by 600 kids at a time, if you are actually able to take his class for some other course make sure to do so! Great professor who actually cares about his students lives and understands what they are going through. Also very funny and has great lectures.
Had him for BCOR 330 and 121. 121 is entirely self-paced so he has little involvement in it, which is fine, it's easy. BCOR 330 however he is much more hands-on and is very organized and clear. Lots of homework that really helps boost your grade, and only takes best 3 out of 4 exams. Lots of "select all that apply" questions, though. Too many
Group project is insanely tough as he only gives guidance/advice if you ask for it. Great guy, makes a class with otherwise boring content very enjoyable.
Big doba goat
Doba is a very non-conventional professor. Very "expressive" and passionate in his lectures. Funny too. He did very well before teaching and his knowledge is valuable. However, he preaches about how he isn't like others and doesn't assign busy work, then assigns a ton of McGrawHill assignments that take hours. Kinda ruins his whole vibe.
No help at all when emailing about graded assignments
Hard to reach through email, and made many grading mistakes. The course was just an insane amount of work for two credits. Tests are almost impossible to pass. If he does respond to your email, there's a fantastic chance it's not at all pertaining to what you were asking.
He seems like a funny guy, but he is lowkey crazy. He gives off the vibes of a old rock hippy (hopefully that doesn't bother you). With respect to the course content, absolutely a waste of time. Assigns mountains of busy work. Concepts taught are literally just a bunch of acronyms for different common sense things. Not worth your time or money.
Professor Dobilas was very hard to get into contact with, he did not respond to emails quickly or professionally. There was no in person, face to face office hours available either. The professor did not match up his words with what his syllabus stated, he would say one thing, but his syllabus would say another. Responses to emails were not clear.
Vince picks his favorites, adds them to a group chat called "Big Doba U", then only works with those select students outside of class and gives them the grades that they work for. No matter what the other students do well in the course that would get them a high grade, they do not receive the benefits.
Absolutely of no assistance when contacted through email. Luckily I was familiar with Microsoft Office; however, the testing format is ridiculous and half the time I couldn't even get into the test as the proctor wouldn't let me in. Good luck if you need any help or have any questions in this course, as he will not provide an adequate answer.
My main issue with this class was not Vince himself but just the BCOR 121 class in general. It is just an annoyance and Vince is not super sympathetic to technology issues. I am so happy to be out of this class and best of luck to everyone taking it lol.
He enters grades very quickly, which is nice. But if you have to email him or are stuck, good luck to you. He emailed us complaining about how many emails he had and how he wasn't going to answer them since the questions are "answered on the syllabus". If you have 100+ people needing help, the students are not the problem.
The whole Bcor121 class is actually a terrible system. It truly has no remorse and you get a 0% if you don't pass your certification test which is unbelievable to me. Your grade never truly reflects the effort or knowledge of the topic that you have. Dobilas does not make this any better, and extremely glad I will never have to take this again.
I absolutely despised BCOR121. Vince was virtually unaccessible via email and provided no help. If you did not pass your certification exams, you receive a 0%. Vince has publicly stated that he hates teaching BCOR 121, so I don't know why he wastes all of our time. Awful "teacher", awful class. Avoid at ALL COSTS.
Worst professor I have ever had. Gives zero feedback and does not help.
Vince doesn't really have a hand in this class, so I can't properly rate him. The class itself is tough. The websites you have to use are buggy and will kick you out. Don't fall behind at all. It's a pain to take, but it'll give you good skills at least.
Honestly, you have to try to fail this class. He is a great professor that prepares you for the real world and actually treats you like an adult. If you still need someone to hold your hand to get through anything, don't take him. Don't trust a few bad reviews because they are from people that blame him for their lack of accountability.
I really want to like Vince but he makes it impossible. He chooses favorites, ridicules the people he doesn't like, and overreacts about minor issues. Vince is a stereotypical bad high school teacher. I get he's a millionaire, but is he a qualified PROFESSOR? The real answer is no.
The class BCOR 121 overall is an awful and tedious class to take, however Vince makes it much harder. His emails and explanation of the class makes no sense and it's confusing. The class is a lot to keep up with and scheduling certification exams is a nightmare especially with his confusing emails. Take with someone else
This class is awful and he is horrible at answering emails or giving any help. worst teacher i've had in my life. drop the class if he is the professor.
Very harsh grader. Not understanding at all
This class is time consuming, hard, and participation matters. When something happens and you have a question and need help, it is a basic email response with little to no help.
Worst Class Ever! So confusing and unorganized. The professor teaches you nothing and expects you to know everything and if you don't good luck. Too many hours spent trying to complete assignments and practice tests just so I could qualify to take the final exams which were even harder and had stuff on them that we never even learned.
This guy was completely absent throughout the course. Classwork was difficult to understand at first but better once I got the hang of it. However, I know a lot of people never did and failed the class.
Professor Dobilas is a pretty easygoing guy. He isn't as degrading as other people say. However, he does not provide very clear rubrics for any of the projects in this course. If you do not ask questions and get help, you will fail. He does favor his "Big Doba U" students over the rest.
Vince is entertaining and offers a lot of good advice for entering the workforce. However, his class structure isn't great. He doesn't cover much material only picking a few points, so you make sure you take notes on the book. There are a lot of homework assignments. The class is busy work, but it's not difficult, and you'll learn a thing or two.
Absolutely horrible professor and horrible class. WVU should've fired him instead of the majority of the math department
This guy is awful. Any time you need help on an assignment you have email some other email address which is not helpful whatsoever. Early in the semester I had surgery and I wasn't able to use my arm, but he didn't care, and I missed assignments causing me to fail the class. All because I was not able to move my arm. Least organized and worst class
never went to class bc it was waste of time. but you have to read 70+ pages every single week and then do a 2 hour assignment on them. be sure to take notes for the open-note exams on readings. but I have spent 40+ hours (a literal full-time JOB) doing the notes. you pay ab $100 & can't even copy/paste. oh and then you'll still do bad on the exam.
Gives hours of McGraw assignments every week and spends half the class talking about politics. If you miss one participation assignment your grade is toast.
Never responds to emails, bad teacher
Could possibly be the worst professor on this planet. Does his best to make the simplest things difficult. Take my advice and do NOT take one of his classes.
This professor is so utterly insufferable; I do not understand how one can even create a grading scale that is so horrid and not understandable that one day I'm passing and the next I'm failing. Avoid at all costs. I even have other professors talking about how insufferable he is.
His grading structure is odd, but he is very understanding if you need to make something up or need extra time. Is very knowledgeable about life after college and how to be successful which I enjoyed learning about. Takes forever to answer emails, you're better off talking to him in-person! I would take Vince again.
Probably the most useless class you will take in college. Course is designed in a way where you can do the assignments and take notes and still not learn a single thing. Most questions are just nit picky wording where more than 1 answer is correct its just not the answer that he's looking for. you will NOT use a single thing you learn in this class
Vince kicks students out of class for other students enjoyment and also talks about things that have no real meaning to the materials he is teaching. He is the only one that teaches this course so you can't avoid him. Gave him an okay only because his grading scale is forgiving and there are zoom classes on Fridays.
Kicks students out of class for the enjoyment of others. Talks about anything but the material. Gave him an okay rating only because his grading scale is forgiving and there is class on Zoom on Fridays
This professor is rude and not understanding in the slightest. I have taken his class twice now and each time i've had issues with the platform used to do assignments. It seems as if he believes the platform can do no wrong. I would not recommend taking any of his courses.
Many students don't like him since he runs the Bcor 121 class which is certification in MS. It's all independent and somewhat tough however, he is a great professor who truly cares about his students. Very funny, keeps it real, and has a lot of knowledge and wisdom to share. One of the top professors at WVU.
One of the worst professors I've ever had, he doesn't actually teach anything but instead just lets online resources do the work. The problem is these online resources are not up to date and it is very hard to do well. Do not take him at any cost
Doesn't actually teach anything, just goes off outdated instructions. Worst class I've ever taken
I always hear good things about his in-person classes, but do not recommend taking the online class. The class might not be as bad if it was set up more neatly on Ecampus and if the instructions were clearer. One of the hardest classes I've taken in my life and definitely read every email he sends out.
Doesn't want to teach the class at all doesn't respond to emails doesn't help you with anything. He single handedly made this class hard to pass
This guy is the best professor I've had here. A lot of reading and homework, but the lectures are pure entertainment with not much learning. Don''t take him too seriously and it'll be a breeze. And its all about who you know.
Terrible!!! The software hardly works and good luck getting any help from the professor. Had to drop the class in order to keep my scholarships. If you don't need Bcor 121 for your major DON'T TAKE THIS COURSE!!!
BigDoba is a great guy. His lectures aren't very in depth but the course I took was a lot of just common sense. He's a funny guy and always had zoom class on Fridays. Fairly easy professor as long as you do the work.
Probably a good guy but never spoke once to our class. Software is so outdated but not his fault. YouTube the practice exams and ai the final and you'll get your certifications. Don't go looking for help from him he'll just send you to another email.
DON"T TAKE THIS PROF IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO - Grade everything using a system - Not at all accessible, will ignore your email or send an automated email back - Could care less if you pass or fail, I think he takes pride in how many people drop his class - Please just take ANYONE ELSE - If you have no choice, GOOD LUCK!
Funny & cares about his students. Very smart individual & is a great teacher overall
