Only major complaint I have is that the class at times seemed a little aimless, lacking overall direction and structure.
I appreciate the flexible grading structure with respect to in-class participation. Being offered the opportunity to participate in class or not was helpful as an off campus student. I would say that I enjoyed how the professor kept bringing the class back to real-life problems, but the participation-heavy aspect led to some aimlessness.
Good course overall, good insights about safety engineering
Great Professor. The class was really interesting and he really knows how to incorporate real life events in to class. Would definitely recommend. Not a hard class at all.
Easy class and good practical examples are given for better understanding
Prof Duffy was continually aware that there were off campus students in this class and made an effort to help us participate and stay involved. Projects were submitted using embedded audio which was very helpful and simple for off campus students. The lectures were participatory and useful for my professional life.
Practical examples are given for better understanding
Prof. Duffy is a quick witted teacher with great teaching skills. His in class activities make you learn the subject in a fun way.
Fair!
Grading is more weighed towards presentations, homework, and participation. Can tell that he respects his students and is always open to help.
Useful course. Not tough.
Nice person ,easy and interesting course
Lecture driven. Long exams (All MCQ).
Dont need to take notes. Class is pretty straight forward. Exams are almost exactly like in-class exercises.
Very laid back teaching style. Lets the students really control how the class will be constructed by offering a lot of opportunities for student feedback and input.
Great professor and great course. Reading the book and doing study guide questions and in class exercises are sufficient for exam preparation.
Good professors who cares a lot about answering student questions outside of class. Class structure is a little disorganized
Professor Duffy is the best option to learn about safety engineering. He is super helpful and cares about his students. Lectures can be a little more organized; he jumps from topic to topic in lecture, and it is confusing sometimes. Overall, a good class!
Great guy, better professor.
Very unorganized
Make sure to attend class
Solid guy who is highly intelligent. A bit unorthodox and the tests are very heavily weighted.
This course was not helpful.
As an off-campus/online student, this class was easier compared to other classes I have taken online. I do not necessarily feel the pressure of having to be caught up and falling behind.
Prof was understanding about off campus work student's schedule and worked with me to be successful in class. Class certainly is applicable and relating to Industry practices.
A very good professor in teaching and inspiring.
Although the requirements aren't clear - the project and reports are very doable.
Nice professor! I would like to have him one more semester!
Super easy class. Duffy's instructions for labs/hw are generally confusing, but he is caring and helpful if you reach out to him.
Professor Duffy cares about if the students actually learn things instead of struggling for an A grade, hence he is very lenient about grading, offering lots of extra credits and would love to encourage and inspire students to research and explore.
Easy and doable class with clear explanation.
He is a really nice professor. The class contains more about applications and report part.
Duffy is an interesting guy, cares about his students. That said, he's a little scatter-brained and hard to follow. The class is largely based on a semester project and not much else. Only one midterm and a final, and the midterm wasn't difficult. Lectures mostly by the TA's, and mainly just a review of 386. Make sure you get a good team though.
The class is interesting, relaxing and useful. Though sometime I may get confusing about the course content and material about labs or courses, the professor is patient to explain everything to me.
Dr. Duffy is a great man! He is always positive to his students and would help them to succeed in his class. He is sometimes hard to follow with the assignments since he is not using blackboard fully efficient. Also, be sure that you know your TAs. They would help too.
The professor Duffy provided great lectures and labs. Really nice professor.
A very caring and personable professor. Has many published works and is clearly well respected in the Industrial Engineering community.
Easy class, sometimes Duffy is not really clear about assignment and grading criteria. But he is awesome guy always wiling to help students.
Great professor, easy class.
Its my first time to rate a professor on this web. Duffy is one of the best professor in my college life. His course is interesting and not really hard for students.
great
An awesome professor, very inspirational and very caring!
Duffy is a really cool guy, but the class is kind of a mess and could use some more structure. Overall, super fair grading and a pretty easy A.
Professor Duffy cares about his students and their success. Class is somewhat paper heavy, however, you can work in groups.
Professor Duffy cares a lot about students. Class participation is important. Understanding and applying concepts are important.
This prof is really kind, this course is really interesting. I am really happy to take this course. I can learn a lot from it.
Requirements for course work is not clear but course material is easy
He is a good professor, very approachable and caring, but his homework and projects are always unclear, you need to ask a lot to understand what you should do to get credits. In general, not a difficult course.
Duffy seems like he means well and is very open to helping students, but the course has very little structure. If the grading and deliverables were clearly set up, there would be much more time in lectures to learn human factors techniques and concepts rather than clarifying organizational/administrative details.
Not much work. About what you'd expect if you've taken a class with him before.
He is a great professor who cares and interacts a lot with his students. His course is just not organized or structured which can confuse some students.
Great course but just a bit unorganized and unclear, but Duffy is a great teacher.
Professor Duffy lectures in a very open form that allows students to interact and learn well. A lot of focus of the class is on analysis and group dynamics which are applicable to my field
Great professor!
Duffy is a great person who is very genuine and actually gets to know his students
The class was a good environment to learn new Ergonomics concepts and the teacher is friendly
Duffy is a great guy. He is very helpful and approachable. I really enjoyed taking his class. Content was interesting and there was a lot of teamwork involved, which was nice.
Duffy is a chill guy. The class is easy, but if you want to really learn this is not for you. There are a lot of assignments but they are all pretty fair
Professor Duffy has a great reputation and I respect him much His class is kind of easy if you attend everyone. But I know what he want is that students really learn something.
Best professor in Purdue IE. Easy A+
He's Great and you'll have experience in many software programs
It was a great learning experience. I was able to pick up some useful skills at the workplace.
Interesting class and fun.
This is my 3rd time taking a class from Professor Duffy and I love the way he teaches. Workload for this class is not very heavy. You will have to write 3500 articles for 2-3 times during the year. Definitely go to the class.
Overall it isn't very difficult, you just have to show up and do all the work. Professor Duffy is a super nice guy and genuinely works to help students learn about topics in Job Design.
Integrating game designs into course concepts, very interesting.
Interesting course!
An interesting course to take. The title of the course is a little bit misleading but it is OK as you will learn many different things and all actually related to JOB DESIGN.
This was an interesting course to take. Be aware that it is mostly a flipped class, and it is really important to attend class. Dr Duffy is very accommodating, so be sure to email him when you need help or clarification.
Be aware that it is mostly a flipped class, and it is really important to attend class. Dr Duffy is very accommodating, so be sure to email him when you need help or clarification. This was an interesting course to take.
Not a lot of homework. You have the ability to work with partners for presentations. There is no final exam only a final essay.
Innovative style of teaching and interactive learning.
The professor does a good job of utilizing active learning methods to teach the information. The class gets to learn the topics (in applied ergonomics) they are interested in. He encouraged the use of groups for presentations and writing assignments. Overall, I would highly recommend this professor for any course.
Great class and a great lecturer. It is a great class to take, and I have learned a lot about ergonomics. Sometimes the homework instructions can be vague, however, Dr. Duffy is willing to help to clarify. Dr. Duffy also promotes an active learning style by implementing student-oriented teaching style into the classroom.
Vincent Duffy is a great professor who always comes to class with a smile on his face. He is more than flexible to work with students on any problem or issue they may have and he genuinely enjoys the material he teaches. Would recommend everyone in IE take this class.
Professor Duffy is a great professor and he has a very innovative and interactive style of teaching. I really enjoyed his class and learnt a lot.
He is really generous about assignment. He uses Tophat instead of blackboard. You have to purchase it. It's about 25 dollars. He teaches really well. It is easy to understand the concept about the course materials. He also gives you a lot of extra credits.
Great way of learning stuff. Really helpful in all term.
Professor Duffy's class on Applied Ergonomics isn't the usual Purdue Engineering Grad class. You rarely feel like you are being pressured to learn and it is easy to think the class is an easy A with no real content. However if you actively listen in class and participate in the questions intelligently, you will learn a lot!
Nice course.
This course was very easy and had very few assignments. However, the entire class was taught by our peers, not the professor. We also had to download so many different types of software to achieve meaningless tasks that we spent most of the class learning how to learn these pointless things. Beware, you will have to pay for some of this software.
The assignments are really easy, sometimes he goes over the answers before it's due. Midterm was easy, study the quizzes The powerpoint project was pretty easy The final project/paper is a little bit more tedious due to the fact of so many requirements and software needed. Very disorganized class so make sure to stay on top of it and you'll be fine
He uses like 30 different platforms and (sometimes paid) software to administer this course. He also recycles course content, IE558 (Safety Engineering) is literally the EXACT same. If you want to learn anything about what the course is named after, do NOT take this class. You will learn how to write a literature review but that is about it.
Duffy's teaching model is incredibly innovative with lots of technology use. The class schedule is very flexible as are deliverables, so be ready for some ambiguity. Participation is a big deal, but you don't have to speak a word out loud in class. Very supportive by email/after class. He's helped students get their final projects published.
There are no homework assignments or exams. He gives certain 'tasks' that you need to complete in every class, which are easy, will take about 10 minutes to complete. There are a couple of projects that are to be submitted though.
Lectures are completely useless, has GTAs read the textbook for 20 mins, then goes over the million different software/rubrics and upcoming policies that we will use in the week. Have to learn everything outside of class by reading the textbook. Formal weekly reports on textbook questions also take up way too much time. Would rather have regular hw
I dropped the class after two weeks because it is too disorganized. There are three different platforms being used, 1 paid. First day nothing is prepared, I can't understand what is happening. By the end of 2 weeks I have no idea what the class is about or what is going to be covered. Students are expected to teach and choose the content?? idk
Halfway through and class is still so poorly organized. We get assignments assigned the day they are due. The ta's teach the material and talk too fast because the content is disorganized. Everything runs on minitab which I actually don't mind using. Except there's a free trial and the goremote never works. Don't reccomend.
Unbelievable. I didn't believe it was possible to show up to class every day and yet learn so little until I took this class. There's no organization to be found. No student seems to be learning material, and yet he insists his process is working. This is also a pay-to-win class with all that is required. I really hope he starts teaching.
Easily one of the worst classes I have taken at Purdue for organization. First, there is no schedule for this class- we often find out when things are due the day that they are due (including one that could only be done on the weekend), and we don't know when topics will be covered in class. TA's who go too fast also do the lectures poorly.
The assignments and projects may be vague. He uses a lot of outside tools than Brightspace like Hotseat and Tophat, but he is a good grader, and if you finish up all the work you should be clear. If you pick a topic of your interest, you should have fun!
WORST professor I have ever had, ugh. I am always so frustrated after his class, by the end-stopped attending. Getting a good grade is easy but if you plan to learn anything, do not take his class. He teaches 330 like a grad class, which does not make sense. Doesn't believe in answering emails. TA's basically teach the class.
BY FAR the worst professor I've had so far. In all of the labs, I spent just as much time trying to understand the directions as I did actually doing work. The content was enjoyable, but this class was so much harder than it needed to be because of the disorganization and ambiguity. He was rarely ever firm in directions or responses to questions.
Going to get an A but I am not confident that I can retain anything from it. I enjoyed the content, but this class was so disorganized. TA's are stuck reading slides in 10 mins, grades updated late, and labs are very poorly worded. We have a final project that is too long, for the individual part we had to follow 52 instructions. Don't recommend.
Terribly organized course. I am expecting an A because the grades are weighted strangely + a lot of extra credit. We had to use 3/4 different platforms that he switched between arbitrarily. Rubrics are incoherent rambling. If you try to talk to him after class he'll waste your time. I learned nothing, since every assignment was just busywork.
Overall, he's a good professor. He got thrown into teaching IE330 right before the it started. Previously, many students failed, so wanted to help people's grades. Extra credit was offered and exams were open note. However, the class was poorly organized and many different platforms were used. Nice guy and willing to give you an A if you show up.
I didn't learn a ton, but class was interesting. There was homework every class but it didn't take long. Professor Duffy is a fun professor. I recommend his 578 Applied Ergonomics class.
This professor teaches two different courses this semester: IE556 and IE558. For his own convenience, he uses exactly the same contexts. He doesn't teach anything but gives a lot of assignments to students, so no one attends the class. Students are required to use 4 platforms and several different software, one of which students have to pay for.
The class was very disorganized and used too many websites that scatter the course information you need. You don't have a lot of confidence in the material and the final project is very unclear. If you had the option to take another course, I would take the other course.
You gave us a 6000 word report during finals week with insane requirements? What are you thinking? And you give us insane exams with inaccessible old online text, some of the questions not even in the text or online... This class is absolutely insane. Grades presentations & reports hard. 6000 word essay... jesus... WHY?!
Why does he give us 6000 word essay, 2000 word writing as well, the week of finals? Why? How is this even allowed?
Professor Duffy has an innovative teaching approach using various tech tools, but the workload can be intense. I found unstuckstudy AI helpful for study prep. Overall, an engaging class if you're willing to put in the effort.
This is the least organized professor I have ever had. after 12 weeks of lecture I am not sure why this is classified as a course. Duffy seems to lack a connection to the class, not just lacking communication, but mentally I am unsure if he is aware he is teaching. Many times he seems to forget what is happening or changes plans during the class.
Classes are worthless, only attend to get participation credit. I am not sure how he is seen as reputable for research as his papers shown in class seem to have none of his work. Duffy may only be relevant as he seems to be a printing press of poor research papers written by graduate students. He will talk to himself during class, often rambling
Professor Duffy really cares about his students and wants to see them grow and learn. I really enjoyed his unique style of teaching. The course was a little disorganized, which added a bit of confusion and unnecessary stress. I would just recommend professor Duffy to be more clear about the syllabus and schedule.
Great Professor! He is smart, kind, understanding, helpful, considerate, and respectful. He gives very clear and detailed answers to student questions and seems to care about his students learning and experience. The only thing Id like to see him improve on is responding to emails but if you ask him q's during lecture he gives detailed answers.
IE/PSY577 - Prof Duffy is a great teacher but a bit disorganized. He's not well in touch with the TA so will often defer a lot of information to them and doesn't seem to have much of a plan going into the lecture. I very much enjoyed this class but be prepared to be very confused on expectations.
He is a nice guy but so unorganized. It didn't even feel like he was teaching anything the second half of the semester as he would just reiterate the same assignment or random study over multiple class periods. Overall, it is a very interesting class but very poorly organized during the second half.
IE 577: The professor fostered respect and caring, inviting guest speakers on stress management and suicide prevention. The workload was manageable, and while the syllabus shifted to explore these themes, it enhanced learning. The course felt more like an engaging seminar than a lecture-heavy class, which may be discouraging to some people.
Chill professor
Prof. Duffy is great. I took Human Factors Engineering with him and learned a lot. Attendance was optional but if you went you got extra credit. Assignments were short but helpful in learning the material. Only one midterm and it was very fair. Very knowledgeable professor!
Very interesting material and a very interactive class. I learned a lot in a not very high stress environment.
Was a very interesting class and he had interesting lectures my. My only complaint is that he had a guest professor for half the semester and then just did not teach any new content after that related to the course material. But still expected all course material to be covered in the Final Exam.
I think that Professor Duffy is a good professor who cares about the learning of students. I liked that he is flexible with deadlines when I was going through some struggles this semester.
We had 2 presentation assignments for the second half of the year, and the whole class was just students presenting for the rest of the year. I didn't even attend my presentation date, but I still received a 10/10...
He is an excellent instructor that cares about student learning. Their lectures are organized and easy to understand. I highly recommend taking this course for credit.
This is for IE 577 (not available from the pull-down course options). Prof Duffy is a caring professor who knows his content, but does not provide a well-structured learning environment. Assignments are poorly explained, and many students' questions were needed to clarify the expectations. You are expected to read the textbook on your own.
Professor Duffy is overall a very good professor. He's willing to take time out of lecture to answer as many questions as we have about anything related to the topic or upcoming assignments. One negative is that the rubric for lab reports and homework is very unclear, so you never really know how well you're going to do on those assignments.
For IE 577: First half of the course was well organized and based on lecture content from the textbook. Second half of the class was much less organized and mostly centered around students presenting research articles, with very little actual content covered. Grading was very disorganized and assignment criteria was often unclear.
(review for IE 577) Professor Duffy is very caring. He wants us to understand the material and makes sure that we don't have to worry about our grades too much. I do wish the course better structured and had clearer rubrics. I felt like the second half of the semester was made up as we went along and too student presentation heavy.
After Professor Duffy took over, I think he shifted the tone of the class to be more focused on the technicals for what was previously theory under Professor Xiong. This helped in our presentations as well as our second lab. I liked how he brought in other people to teach as well as this was helpful in clearing up some of the more opaque material.
I think Professor Duffy was a solid professor and cared about our learning. The class was pretty easy-going and there is a lot of extra-credit opportunities.
He is a chill professor, and classes can also be attended through online.
the course is rather easy and also informative. If you're interested in studying human computer interactions, psychology and ergonomics at a very superficial level, this course will help. Also getting an "A" is super easy. Also probably one of the easiest level 5 course
Pretty chill, took IE 577 with him and enjoyed the class!
He is lenient, and good professor
He explains the topics well and is clear on what is expected from each assignment.
He explains the course topics and assignments well.
Cares about the subject. Attendance isn't technically mandatory but attending in person makes it easier to keep up with everything (and ask questions).
The professor demonstrates strong professional abilities, particularly in their organized and thoughtful teaching style.
Professor Duffy is a lenient professor who knows his stuff, but the class is poorly organized. Assignments and their expectations are not explained well and often need extra clarification to understand. I took 577 this semester and while it is technically online, in-person attendance will yield extra credit points.
It was difficult to keep track of what was due and when, but he did provide regular office hours where he clarified the course timeline.
He is good overall
This course is well organized and professor is great
His class was a significant chunk of work but Professor Duffy makes it easy to invest in. The course material is interesting and the structure of the class (lots of discussion posts) took some time to complete but had me leaving the term feeling like I had a firm grasp on all the concepts. I will 100% look forward to taking another class from him.
IE556 was poorly organized and last minute changes were frequent, so make sure you monitor your email. Don't be afraid to use AI to combat disorganization. There were 6 documents related to the midterm requirements, all with conflicting messages. Without AI to compile them, I would have spent hours figuring out where to start and what to include.
Overall he was good!
Professor is great and the course is well organized. Found it helpful.
Enjoyed this class a lot! Professor Duffy really knows the content and is very passionate about teaching it. Really felt like I learned a lot this semester. Only thing that made the class difficult was having to use multiple platforms to do assignments.
Professor Duffy made the class engaging and has a passion for the material he teaches. Overall enjoyed the class and learned a lot throughout the course.
Professor Duffy's lectures are clear, well-organized, and thoughtfully structured. I really appreciate her use of diverse learning tools to enhance understanding. The in-class assignments and discussions were engaging and helped me learn a great deal throughout the semester. Highly recommend her class!
This class is very good, and the professor is so nice. You can learn a lot from this class
Great professor w/ clear requirements up front. Do the work on time and on schedule.
Good professor!
Professor Duffy demonstrates a strong command of the subject matter and presents the material in a clear, organized manner. His teaching style is engaging and practical. He encourages questions and discussions, creating a comfortable learning environment where students feel supported.
Dr. Duffy cares about students and their formative learning and success. However, his written communication on how to complete assignments is sometimes difficult to understand. Additionally, the professor uses PackBack as a third party discussion board. It takes time to learn PackBack and use it effectively.
Professor Duffy is genuinely passionate about the subject and does a great job making complex concepts in job design approachable and engaging. He shares a wide range of learning materials and uses diverse teaching methods to support different learning styles.
If the course is better organized, the course would be more worth taking.
If the course is better organized, it is worth taking.
Genuine person in terms of helping students learn the material.
Very solid class. Learning felt natural and I thoroughly enjoyed the format.
Great class. Learning felt natural and Professor Duffy posted detailed videos of his office hours.
Only writing the review as required by the final exam. The course needs to be better organized, and important information should not be hidden in walls of text.
IE556 helped me understand the basics of job design, motivation, ergonomics. I learned how thoughtful job design can improve productivity & employee satisfaction. Professor Duffy made the class engaging and encouraged us to apply what we learned through real examples & frameworks. I'd recommend to anyone interested in making work better for people.
+ Very considerate, cares about his students He wants you to do well: feedback, multiple attempts, and examples for bigger assignments Responded quickly to emails + office hours. - Sometimes assignments or lectures were posted out of order or labeled with incorrect dates, which was confusing. He is helpful if you ask questions though.
Summer IE556. Course was poorly organized and very unclear at times. Hard to tell what he wanted for an assignment. Instructions that could have been put into two sentences were put into an entire page. TA has ignored my emails regarding grades. Class itself is not hard, especially since most of the assignments are graded via AI.
Class was not hard but very poorly organized, it was hard to know what was due for an assignment because he would take an entire page to describe the deliverables when two sentences would do just as fine.
Good professor and interesting course. The only criticism is that the class isn't organized the best; its hard to know what is due when because of the extremely long-winded Brightspace announcement. Exam essays were also explained in an unnecessarily complicated fashion. Other than that, Prof Duffy is a great prof!
Material & assignments are easy, but I spent more time trying to navigate his Brightspace setup and trying to figure out basic things like due dates than doing actual coursework. Poorly organized overall with little to no communication via email. TA never responded to anything, professor responded to ~3 of 12 emails all in vague and unhelpful ways.
The online course had a good mix of discussion assignments through Packback, writing assessments, as well as quizzes that really helped me recap what I had learned. Prof. Duffy provides very clear instructions on what to do, and any approaching deadlines through timely announcements on Brightspace.
This was a summer class, pretty straight forward. lots of writing for participation. Overall good professor!
Awesome professor!
Professor Duffy's teaching style is organized and engaging, making complex concepts easy to understand. Lectures are well-structured with clear explanations, and they often connect theories to practical workplace examples, which helps in grasping the applications. He encourages interactive and collaborative class discussions.
This course had interesting content but was poorly designed. Materials were often missing or late, deadlines shifted unpredictably, and feedback was minimal or AI-generated. Last-minute assignments and unnecessary fees for external tools added to the frustration. Overall, disorganization hurt the learning experience.
Overall Professor Duffy is a good professor who gives good lectures. However, the course is very unorganized. The due dates where often not clear. Thankfully, he was very willing to adjust due dates. In addition the course has a required text book to buy along with two external services that require a fee to sign up. These services are not helpful.
I would say that for an 8 week course originally designed to be 16 weeks there is some need for major reorganization. The professor is willing to make accommodations for deadlines which I found to be kind but seemed to be unnecessary if he would have made the course more organized. I found the lectures to be well done.
Professor Duffy is a good professor and IE556 was an interesting course. The summer class was condensed so there were always daily assignments. I work full-time, only took this course, and thought the workload was manageable. The lectures are well-structured and short. He encourages class participation through Packback.
Lectures were pre-recorded which may be good or bad depending on your preferences. Grading is not too tough, but the course I took was advertised as an engineering course and was not really what I would call a typical engineering course. The main thing I disliked about the specific class was the use of TaskHuman, a professional counseling app.
High scoring course. Be ready for weekly assignments and quizzes.
Make sure to watch the lecture videos a few times and take screenshots of the content, as this will help with your mid-term and final. Also, ensure that your Packback scores are higher than what he includes in the grading criteria.
This post is mandated for his final exam FYI, so give the "5.0's" a grain of salt. The content itself is not difficult, and you can do this if you work full time. But this is likely the most disorganized course I have been in and is very confusing. Exams mandate that you video call with random people on Task Human; feels like you're on Omegle.
Professor Duffy is a very knowledgeable and kind instructor who creates a supportive learning environment. His teaching style is clear and well-structured, and he always helpful to all the students. His homeworks and texts are easy to understand at the sametime highly relatable to course objectives.
Great class to take
Professor Duffy teaches with a clear, structured style and connects theory to real examples, which clarifies complex topics. He keeps discussions focused, invites questions, and provides actionable feedback. Suggestion: share brief rubrics and post slides 24+ hours early.
I've taken Professor Duffy's courses for 2 semesters straight during my co-op; the classes were well-structured, available online, and easy to understand.
Overall fun classes and engaging videos posted. A little difficult to follow assignment instructions since its in parts and need to go through multiple posts. Deadlines hard to keep track of because using packback
Overall fun class and engaging video content. Prof is awesome ad will take a class again if possible with him Little difficult to follow the assignment instructions since it's not organized in one place. Deadlines are hard to track with packback.
Vincent Duffy is an outstanding professor for Job Design, making the class highly interactive and engaging with real-world examples. He promotes active learning through Packback discussions, ensuring students stay involved and think critically. His approachable nature and fair grading make learning both enjoyable and effective.
Professor Duffy is passionate about the subject and grades very leniently, which helps ease stress. The course could be better organized, and there were several extra costs for materials that added up. Overall, his enthusiasm is clear, but streamlining the class and reducing expenses would improve the experience.
Amazing teaching
The course is structured and good. There will be a lot of homework and participation, but they are relatively easy and engaging. Overall a very good course
Really enjoyed the course specially the activities assignment were really fun and insightful. The teaching style of professor is very clear and whole course is very well structured. The course was not just book following but keeps in mind the real world issues and its solutions.
Great Professor
Dr. Duffy's a good lecturer and the workload was okay. The only (big) issues were firstly, the course is very disorganized. Assignment instructions are very confusing, which can easily be fixed by using AI to clean it up. The second thing I dislike is the use of Task Human, which seems very forced and lacks a direct relation to the course.
Professor Duffy was great. I particularly liked the Packback participation part of the course.
Very pleased with Professor Duffy in this course.
The professor places a lot of importance on participation and uses an external tool Packback for assignments.
Really hard to understand the instructions most of the time
Most of the class was online. Instructional video was very helpful
I am gonna take another course of Vincent Duffy.
I am going to take Vincent Duffy's another course because I loved the way he teaches us. My recommendations would be "Go for it without thinking twice".
I like Vincent Duffy's this program and I would highly recommend this.
Good lectures. Lots of assignments.
There will be very sporadic assignments so make sure not to miss class and stay on top of things
Recommended. Great professor.
Good Proffesor
Really passionate about teaching! However, lot of homework.
Prof. Duffy makes class engaging and really encourages participation, which I appreciated. The projects kept us on our toes since we had to stay updated with deadlines, but it pushed me to stay disciplined and prof is very lenient about it. Overall, I learned a lot and enjoyed the experience!
Great Professor, course is very useful for Industrial students
Prof. Duffy makes class fun and interactive, and you really feel involved. The projects keep you busy, but they're practical and worth it. I left the course feeling like I actually learned skills I can use.
The Professor is very generous in grading and timelines, had a good time during the lectures also, clears doubt perfectly.
Prof Duffy makes the course very engaging and fun. Learnt a lot from it.
Highly recommend.
I highly recommend this course!
The professor is professional, approachable, and teaches in a clear, easy-to-follow way. The material is explained well, and expectations are straightforward. As long as you stay on top of the homework and complete it on time, it's manageable to keep up and do well in the course.
very kind and experential learning
Learn a lot and enjoy a lot
Amazing professor
The material is not organized. He tends to load a lot of projects onto students the last few weeks of class. It is as if he loses track of time regarding the semester schedule. He is well-intentioned and I believe has the students' best interest in mind but is sometimes hard to know what his expectations are.
The professor cares about the student and tries to integrate real world examples into lecture materials so that parallels can be drawn along with textbook information. Lots of assignments across multiple platforms but you should be good if you pay attention to professors lectures and videos. Fantastic learning experience.
Great professor and a good learning experience
Professor is great with the material and expectation from the students. It does get busy at the end but that is well communicated.
He is a really good professor. I really enjoyed his classes. If you want a chill class but learn a lot and interested in how things are made and designed, this class is for you.
Professor Duffy made this class so easy with all the materials he provided and the time he spent to answer our questions. I would take his class again or other topics if I get the chance to.

Professor is knowledgeable and shares a lot of information, provides us access to many resources in and around campus. He brings in guest lectures and exposes us to new industries. Its upto the students to make use of the opportunities. Would definitely take up his courses next semester.
He's an excellent professor, and I really enjoyed his classes. If you're looking for a relaxed class where you still learn a lot, this is for you
Easy class if you plan ahead and stay organized. Be sure to check bright space periodically. Responds well to questions on emails. 2 papers last month of class for final, textbook and lecture midterm and exam.
Overall, Professor Duffy was a super helpful and course was easy
I love Professor Duffy's course, and I appreciate the Packback required participation and the different guests he brings throughout the semester.
Professor Duffy invites many guest speakers throughout the semester, which is always cool, and you get to learn new things.
He teaches well, its more practical. would take for good grades

Prof Duffy's class was really good, and I learned about Human Ergonomics in depth. He has a clear communication style, a good teaching style, and is always accessible outside the classes for doubt clearance.
He is a great professor.
His online lectures are very concise and well organized. I have taken his class before and was hesitant about being in an online course, but was impressed by the production quality of his videos.
This ergonomics course was highly applied and engaging, effectively connecting human factors theory with real-world engineering design. Prof. Vincent Duffy's expertise and systems-thinking approach encouraged critical analysis beyond memorization. The projects were especially valuable and directly applicable to industry practice.
The professor cares for the students. He makes each class engaging through several in class exercises. He grades the student well.
Good and class has a lot of presentations
Pros: - Professor is extremely well-versed in the subject. - Exams are not very difficult if you followed the classes properly. Cons: - Faced issues figuring out assignments as they were distributed over 3 platforms - There are multiple small tasks to be done which is difficult to track and you may end up missing a few
Extremely unorganized. No syllabus was provided at the start of the semester and lectures were often uploaded late. It was impossible to manage time effectively during this class. Assignments seemed like "busy work." I'd encourage Prof. Duffy to increase organization in order to make this a more effective online class.
He is good professor
Good Professor for teaching and doubt solving
Very easy-going and really knows his stuff. Class was interesting and he made it easy to understand the topics
Assignments are not organized.
The prof is very knowledgeable and takes classes very well. He is friendly to students, and gives mostly easy assignments and take home tests
I have recently completed Professor Duffy's Applied Ergonomics class. I personally thought the lectures were good and pace of the class was great. The lectures were interesting but the announcements and content that was posted could have been organized a little bit better.
Dr. Duffy is clearly very passionate and caring regarding ergonomics and his student. However, I found this class to be disorganized and requirements were not always clear.
You get out of the class what you put in. Not terribly difficult, but it feels a bit disorganized in terms of assignments and due dates.
Would take him again.
The scope of the course and delivery was exeptional.
Applied Ergonomics Course - Prof. Duffy is passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. The lectures and topics were interesting. However, the assignments are spread out over 3 different platforms and the instructions/objectives are not always clear. It's not a difficult course, but it was a bit disorganized.

Really easy course thanks to the way Dr. Duffy takes the lecture.
The professor was effective in teaching applied ergonomics and made the material easy to understand and relevant. Abstract concepts like human–system interaction and ergonomic risk assessment were explained using practical workplace examples. The teaching style was clear and encouraged discussion. While there were many assignments and case studies.

Honestly the course is great for the most part. It's not a challenging course at all and Prof Duffy is one of the most caring profs out there. The assignments are a tad bit disorganized though but not enough to put one off of taking up this one under prof Duffy.
The professor was very knowledgeable and professional. He explained the class and expectations well. In his videos, he would remind students of due dates and assignments, which was very helpful!
Prof Duffy is a really good instructor for IE 578. He explains things clearly, uses practical examples, and keeps the class organized. The workload is reasonable and the assignments actually help you learn. Overall, a solid and supportive professor.
In general, it is fine.
Great professor who wants to ensure his students are getting a good amount of knowledge regarding ergonomics and are able to understand basic principles. Touches on a wide variety of topics and encourages students to explore more about the ergonomics and human factors.
if you expect a normal frontal lecture don't take this class; the first part of the semester students are expected to choose a book chapter and present it, so all the book is explained this way with a 10 minute presentation each, with little to no depth where the student is expected to deepen the knowledge of the chapters to his own interest
Professor Vincent Duffy is a highly knowledgeable instructor who explains human factors and ergonomics concepts clearly using real examples. His lectures are well structured and emphasize critical thinking and system-level understanding. The course is challenging but expectations are clear, making the learning experience rigorous and rewarding.
He was very engaging in this class and made sure to always relate what we were reading in the textbook to real world examples and stuff that was happening at the current time. He always emphasized group work and always looking to show that ergonomics are in all our day to day lives. I would take any of his classes if you are interested.
Good Course
Good setup for online class, long due dates for most items and professor answers emails same day.
Prof duffy is soo chill and he is very good in making students understand the concept.
I love Prof Duffy's class mainly because he is good at making students learn the concept .
This course is pretty easy both technically and in terms of workload. Dr Duffy organizes most of his courses in a similar way, so I was pretty used to the structure. However, I think overall course is very disorganized and hard to understand instructions... really hard..
Content is easy. However, I didn't fully understand a single instruction since the beginning of this course.
The Lectures are easy to glide by and the professor will ask for class participation in the form of 2-4 min presentations which are easy to glide by. Attendance is taken by iclicker so being in the class is appreciated.
Professor Duffy is incredibly kind and co-operative. His course is engaging and interactive.
If you wanted to take a lower-maintenance course, I would suggest this one. There are weekly-ish discussion posts and some other misc. assignments to go with them. The exams are nothing to worry about if you come to class. Duffy is a pretty easy-going professor and often will give extensions. I had no problems reaching out to him outside of class.
Professor Duffy is clearly knowledgeable and passionate about ergonomics. The class was easy and straight forward, but definitely unorganized. He also didn't respond to any of the emails I sent throughout the semester, but typically pushed back or fixed due dates which were usually the concerns.
Lots of assignments though it's a fun subject if you're interested in Human Factors Engineering
Professor Duffy's passion about the subject comes through in every lecture. He also brings in super interesting guest lecturers to class. Exams are quite easy if you know where to look in your notes.
It's a good course, but students are supposed to read the entire ergonomics themselves based on their interests with little explanation in the class. Obviously, students can approach professor anytime if they have their doubts. A lot of interaction activities are offered at different platforms throughout the course.
fun professor
The professor is liberal with assignments, and quizzes are spoon-fed feed
Dr Duffy is a fantastic person and a supportive teacher. The course is about itself, though. There are quiz questions which ask you what the contents of your homework were. It is a v easy course if you are patient with it.
Prof. Duffy's lectures are informative and interesting; students learn about class subjects through real world examples and open discussions. Classes are group-project heavy, assignments are not too difficult, but are relevant to the covered topics.
Professor Duffy is knowledgeable and the course content is good. However, the class uses many different tools and platforms, which can be confusing and easy to miss things. Instructions are often long, and exam-related updates were sometimes shared close to midterm and final exams, which added stress.
Professor Duffy is knowledgeable & the course content is good. However, the class uses many different tools & platforms, which can be confusing and easy to miss things. Instructions are often long, and exam-related updates were sometimes shared close to midterm and final exams, which added stress.Clearer & more consistent communication would help.
Professor Duffy is a highly knowledgeable ergonomics professional with deep expertise in human factors, digital human modeling, and safety, which comes through clearly in his teaching. His teaching style blends conceptual explanations with practical applications, frequently tying class topics to real-world design and evaluation problems.
Professor Duffy's lectures are well organized, and content is clearly structured. There is a lot of stuff to complete, but not too heavy. Good time management will help in completing everything well before deadline. One advice to students - clearly read the announcements if you are taking course in distance learning mode. Overall, a good course.
Course is a practitioners course, you will learn how to use RAMSIS for design, and ergonomic design.
Good course for a basic overview of ergonomics
The online section of this class was sometimes hard to follow. For the midterm and final, we had a lot of projects and discussion posts due. Those weeks I had significantly more work, and it felt like it could've been spread across the semester a little more. Sometimes lectures were posted late, but he always gave enough time to complete it.
Overall, great class - used an online software for ergonomics analysis which is very applicable when you are in the industry. Many assignments and homeworks.
The course content is strong and applicable to real engineering and management scenarios, but grading criteria and feedback could be clearer. Assignments require significant effort, and clearer examples or rubrics would improve the learning experience. Overall, a valuable class if you're prepared for detailed work.

Professor Duffy's feedback is crucial for the group projects, so pay close attention to his notes. The class structure is clear, but participation matters a lot. Make sure to study consistently to handle the pop quizzes.
Easy going and knowledgeable. This is my third course with him
Professor Duffy is very articulate and his lectures are insightful and engaging. His classes aren't too tough, but they have engaging activities and you will learn what you expect to from him. He communicates well and makes expectations clear when giving assignments.
Lovely professor with amazing coursework highly practical in real world application
His class certainly isn't hard, as most of the assignments are discussion posts or basically graded on completion. My biggest issue with the course and Professor Duffy was lack of clarity. The class doesn't have a progression of material that builds on itself like most other classes, but was a scattered collection of ideas that felt disorganized.
Professor Duffy aims to use relevant information as a part of this course; however, I felt some disconnection with the content of the course. I did not go away from this course feeling like a learned a lot about Applied Ergonomics. Also as an online student, the course felt incredibly disorganized.
Class is interesting, but Brightspace and Packback are not very well organized
I have already taken 2 subjects under prof. Duffy. I love his teaching style and the interesting assignments he gives us.
The course is easy and the professor is great
Professor Duffy is very nice and cares about the success of his students. However, the course layout was confusing and somewhat disorganized.
I liked this course.
Awesome Professor, gives you plenty of chances to correct mistakes and gain extra points.
Good for credit.
Professor Duffy is a good professor. His courses are going to have a lot of homework every week so you need to take care of the deadlines. I would recommend students to his courses.
Great prof
