Acts like Mr. Rogers during the lectures, then turns into the Terminator during tests. He thinks that memorizing definitions verbatim will help us learn. Tests are way too hard and alienate a lot of students (not sour grapes - I did well in the class).
Calculus shouldnt be about freaking definitions, this isnt english class. I dropped his class after two weeks cause his his Mr. Rogers gone mad! DONT TAKE HIM!
He talks in a very low voice I can barely hear him. He makes you memorize definitions and also makes you memorize all the proofs. He assigns lots of homework and his tests are difficult. A lot of people failed his class. Quizzes everyday.
Very difficult, he has a robot style of teaching. The test were far too difficult and he does'nt give enough homework (yes I said that). If you want to learn and care about your grade point I would recommend you take someone else.
As a person, he seems like a decent person. However, making us memorize definitions WORD FOR WORD, or else lose 25 points is not the way to learn math. He told us the first day of class that only 20 percent of his students pass any of his classes. Now I see why.
Very goog professor. Teaches very clear and very helpful. Alvays exlains every questions you have and grades your papers very fairly.
TO MAY VOCABULARY WORDS TO REMEMBER AND TO MUCH HOMEWORK IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME.
Although he is a very sweet teacher, Mr. Lee can be very VERY strict when it comes to tests and quizzes. I recommend this teacher to hard working students that actually strive for their goals; all you need is a focused student for this math class, with this teacher, because he's not that bad of a teacher.
VERY HARD TEACHER. DON'T TAKE HIM UNLESS YOU WANT TO FAIL. I JUST LIKE HIS SMILE.AS A PERSON HE IS VERY NICE BUT AS A TEACHER HE'S VERY HARD AND NOT FAIR.
teaches beyond any level, very diffcult, can't use a calculators on quiz or test, quizes are basic on homework assignments, very diffcult test because you can't use a calculator, very clean on subject, don't recommend if you don't have time to study, expect to study 4 hours a day no breaks, teach you beyond any level of math, very interesting class
one of the toughest professor I ever had, but the best professor, Learned Alot. B-
YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING OK, BUT AT THE END, HE HITS YOU IN THE NECK WITH A LOW GRADE. IT IS HARD TO UNDERSTAND HIS GRADING SYSTEM. HE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO UNDERSTANDS IT.
very hard, have to rember proofs and definitions. very hard tets and many people got killed on the final. so don't you dare take him. but he's nice and hansome and sexy looking guy.
Very Difficult Teacher. There were many definitions that we had to memorize for the quiz, test, and final. No calculators on any quiz, test, or final.
i had never failed a math test untill i took lee's math class very hard professor, dont' recommend anyone to take him unless you have a very strong math backgound...tests are very difficult..too theoretical
This professor is ridiculously hard. He gives no credit for an almost right answer. He expects you to memorize all proofs, all formulas, and then to be able to literally do every problem. His tests consist of all of the hardest problems and he goes off on theoritical tangets often. This professor is to hard for a music major like me. Don't take him
Very difficult professor but extremely well in explaining concepts. I recommend it to all who really want to learn math and not just earn credit or easy grade...WAY TO GO MR. LEE
The most understandable teacher I ever had, makes calculus seem simple. If you can't understand this professor, then forget it. He makes it interesting. I learned twice as much as any other class. He's tough, but if you want to really learn math he's the best.
I took this class Spring of 2003. I have since realized that Prof. Lee was the best math teacher I have had for a college level math course. He was very patient, available for office hours, answered all questions thoroughly, and was very knowledgeable about the material. I have had some crummy prof's in math and I miss having him as a teacher.
Before this class I always made C's and D's in math. I got a B in Professor Lee's class. He gave lots of quizzes which made me keep up with the homework. I guess that's what I needed. He really wants you to understand it. He explains things slowly and keeps going over it till everyone gets it.
A lot of pop quizes, mostly consisting of 4 questions. Definitions!! Monotone, very robotic way of teaching. Boring, 2 1/2 hours can be much.
he's a tough cookie!
Very mean teacher..he would laugh, with a ENOURMOUS smile showing all his teeth, for no reason all by himself. I hate him because I tired very hard and was never absent and he gave me a D. He is the worst teacher in LACC. All his students hated him because hes a terrible teacher. By the time I figured out he was a terrible teacher..it was too late.
Worst Professor...Do NOT take him as a math professor. I took him because the time fit into my schedule. But than I figured he is the worst teacher in all of the college and that it is not worth taking him. If you take him, he fails a lot of people. Instead of teaching Math he teaches English. You have to memorize definitions!!!
This guy won't go easy on you, but he knows his stuff and knows how to teach... Recommended!
terrible
he's horrible
Monotone teaching. Not very helpful. His tests don't allow you to show your work so there's no feedback.
nice teacher! lotta quizzes made me study learnd alot take tis teacher!
best math teacher i ever had. knows so much math and science he can answer any question. hes not that hard. fair grader. very highly recommended
Linear Algebra is the most interessting math I have studied. Professor Lee is great! Don't miss taking this class with this professor.
I am an English major who put off math as long as possible. Prof. Lee really got me going in the right direction in math 125. He is very helpful to mathematically challenged students. I got a B. I then took math 245 with him and got an A. Thanks to Prof. Lee and several other great professors at LACC I was admitted to Berkley.
the best math teacher. knows calculus and knows how to teach.
Not the easiest class, but overall the best class. Mr. Lee is an excellent teacher.
I took differential equations and linear algebra in the same semester. Both were Saturday classes taught by Mr. Lee. Thanks to Mr. Lee I survived. In fact, I got an A in both classes! He is very good, and I really mean that.
The best professor. There're some complaints but they are all from 100 level classes. you study hard, his lecture will be so good that you can learn in a day! He is my mentor. My major was ECON,but after taking his classes, I changed to EE! and i'm doing great! I really thank him. If you are willing to learn as you should be, then he is the one.
He's the best math professor I've known. some people say that memorizing definition is a joke. Totally wrong. As you take higher level classes without knowing definitions, then you are not gonna know what YOU are doing!Definitely take his classes. His class is hard? so are the CSUs and UCs.
hes nice wants to help you learn
hes nice
an interesting class
Calculus 2 is a difficult subject, but Professor Lee has it down. He can explain it to any student so they get it.
If you take differential equations with Prof Lee you will actually understand what you are doing.
i took precalculus with prof lee in the 5 week winter session. it was really tough doing it in 5 weeks, but prof lee pushed us through it. i am doing well in calculus and i give prof lee a lot of credit for that i really recommend him.
he is nice but also kinda of intimidating he knows how to teach but goes fast. He only grades tests..no extra credit but does drop the lowest quiz.you need to do the hw though so u can understand better and past quizzes. he is better than most
he likes to take questions and makes sure students understand. i highly recommend this teacher
Theis is a very good instructor. Very organized, explains things clearly.
I heard about Professor Lee from a friend at Pierce. His linear algebra course was really good. I will take DE with him next.
This was a great course. It changed my idea of what calculus and math are.
He is the worth teacher EVER!!!!!! Gets very defencive if u start asking him 2 many questions. Makes u feel like an idiot. Quizes every day with the worst probles out of the HW. Tests r hard. He had 5 ppl left in the class by the end of the session. He failed 4. That should tell u something about him.
the best math teacher at lacc. makes it very interesting will answer any question until you get it
He is patient, easy to understand, and clear in his lecture and expectations. The best math teacher at LACC! He is challenging but will always let you know what to expect. You will definitely learn something in his class.
He is patient, knows the subject well and is clear in his lecture and expectations. This is a challenging teacher but he will always let you know what to expect. You will definitely learn something in his class. The best math teacher at LACC!
Get ready to do a lot of work in this class. Quizzes are given everyday and he is not a generous grader. Personally, I think he teaches in a way that's more difficult to understand than the methods shown in the textbook.
He does talk in an unexciting, monotone voice but he's clear in his teaching. Occasionally he teaches differently than in the book, which can get a bit confusing but he'll answer all questions thoroughly. Make sure you do ALL homework until you get it. Don't assume certain things won't be on the test. He pretty much covers everything. Recommended.
Out of touch with reality , He quizzes extensively, the midterms and final are extermly long . most students dropped his class, other failed ( out of 24 only 7 remained in class). In my opinion he should not be allowed to teach. He is not competent nor does he know the material he teaches. He request students to memorize definitions , yet he do
Wirst teacher ever at LACC, i got a B because i like math and i worked my butt off, out of 28 students only 8 remained and only two of us passed. Try someone else or go to another college. Do not take him!
dont even think about taking his class. he quizzes more than he teachs. Very poor grader. He will continue to quiz you untill you grade goes down.you will neither learn nor get a good grade. too many people droped. very few people stay in his classes. my guess he like to have small classes and enjoys failing students. dont take his class u will suf
An interesting class. Iliked the professor. He really understands it and explains difficult concepts clearly. He obviously likes his job.
I like Mr. Lee. He is a good teacher.
definitely take his class. his quizzes are a big help. he explains calculus so anyone can understan, if you don't like him maybe you shouldn't be in college.
I Highly doubt that the quizzes are a big help. when quizzes exceed 16 quizzes, they become annoyance. the quzzes are a single question or two at max, if you miss one your average takes a dive. he does not drop more than one. the latter two messages are higly QUESTIONAGLE... Very few student take his classes,,specialy those who dont know his ways.
dont take his classes, it is not worth it. drop it or you will regret your grade.
professor Lee is very kind. he gave me much help and confidence
The class is VERY straight-forward. If you do your homework and allow yourself the time to absorb the material, then you'll do fine. If you don't do your homework, or you wait until the last minute and barely finish, then you'll fail that day's quiz. If you start to get behind, then it's almost impossible to catch up.
Okay this guy makes the class extremely hard by covering about three sections per day. Quizzes almost every day, gives them at the end when you're burned out! He doesnt even offer office hours in the Winter cause it's not mandatory. HW Doesnt count. I asked him for help and he just neglected me. Started with 50 students ended with about 15 or less
Extremely difficult grader. Grades on the curve which means only a few students will pass. Class started full and at the end of semester less than 11 people remained. Gives quizzes just about every session and 3 very difficult tests. Consider a different professor or else you are likely to fail as he enjoys to fail students.I learned the hard way.
He is a tough grader, but knows his subject well. He is challenging but you will really know the subject after taking him.
hard class but good teachr
Warning: he gives 'pop' quizzes constantly and those generally only have two questions on them. Get one wrong and you fail that quiz. Difficult to get a good grade due to his grading although I would say his teaching is fine enough.
only 6 out of 40 people remaining at the end of the semester. that exaplains it all. hardest problems on the textbook is MUCH easier than the problems on exams. he spends 90% of the time answering hw questions he assigned. you ask for help, he tells you to email him and ignores your email. i don't know why he is making his students suffer so much.
Many pop quizzes, mandatory attendance, and challenging exams. But you'll learn a lot after that. Highly recommended.
i think the quizzes helped me. the teacher was always willing to explain. good class
He explains everything, sometimes more than he has to. He works all the more difficult homework problems and makes copies for all the students. I recommend him. This was very interesting math. Dirrerent than calc.
The thing that bothered the class was that he doesnt project his voice, he sounds as if he's whispering. Quizes are 2 questions, so if u miss 1 question u fail the quiz. He doesnt allow calculators so you have to memorize all the Logarithms. You can ask him for help, but the test are hard. Beware, his class is difficult
Extremely diffucult class more than it need be and you must memorize word for word period by period definitions down to punctuation. consider taking a different professor or unless you want your GPA to drop. He's a difficult grader as he curves grades. class ended with few students and I would not recommend. Reconsider.
Avoid his class, Too many students drop the classs. exams are difficult and very long. Quizzes are given at the end of the class. You are warned.Your GPA will take a dive. Grades on curve.Quizzes are two questions each, and if you miss one question, you grade will suffer big time.
Your textbook is your teacher. He doesn't teach at all but only goes through exercises, 3 hrs of it (sat class). He doesn't explain anything. GPA will def. suffer bc of pop quizzes (if you miss class, you're screwed) Subject not hard, he jst doesn't teach.
Only if you have plenty of time to study the whole chapter, go ahead and take his class. If you are busy with other things but you want to take calculus, take someone else's class.
Professor Lee is amazing! He is extremely kind and explains everything in perfect, grammatically correct English. I also like how he relates the topics in class to real-life applications. He is one of the best math professors on campus and those who complain just don't want to blame themselves for not putting in enough effort and studying.
This GUY should not teach. the class starts around 30 to 40 student but ends up with less then 10, if you taking his class , you should think twice about it. exams are extremely Long and hard . He can not teach without looking at his notes. Most students just drop his class. quizzes every day except days of midterms and final. DONT TAKE HIS CLASS.
i took his class a few years ago. Only 2 out of 9 students passed his class. I am very good in math and i always get A's in every my math class, but i got a D in his class. what a horrible teacher !
I had this teacher for Math 260/261 and did well because I worked REALLY hard. Long and difficult tests, daily pop quizzes and at least 10 hours of homework per week. I dropped 262 because his teaching style is unreasonable.
This guy is plain horrible. His lecture is composed of writing down definitions, which would be fine if he gave two or three examples. You can't even tell when he's done teaching a section because you haven't done any exercises. I strongly recommend not taking him.
Let me preface this by saying that I have had a LONG college career. I had to take remedial math to make up a deficiency. Prof. Lee, is a nice man but an absolutely horrible teacher. It pains me to say this. His exams are not representative of the work you will be studying. I have a 3.8 gpa. I have spent HOURS studying. I'm getting a C or D in clas
USELESS USELESS PROFESSSOR..I dont get it, why cant the school kick him out? 90% of his students fail the class and you think its all thier fault? Well, no, its the professor who cant teach! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, if you wanna repeat a class twice or even thrice, then this is the class for you! He is best at failing students, or shall i say, expert? To summarize, take him if you wanna repeat the class again, you will flunk, I guarantee it! :D
He's just not good. He has an "old school" approach to teaching that is ineffectual. He knows a lot about mathematics but very little about teaching. I'm very good in school. In fact, I'm a teacher myself. I would never make my students memorize definitions verbatim and test them on it. Research has shown it's pointless. Be prepared to do this
i wish i had read his rating prior to taking his class. Everything that was said about him, is very true. I am a dean's list student two semester's in a row, and by no means because i took easy classes. I just received a D in his class after hours of studying. The quizzes are ridiculous and he picks the hardest questions for his exams. Take this c
Monotone, confused
There are only 2 exams, so if you mess up on one, you better study HARD for the final. Expect to have frequent quizzes and do ALL of the HW (quizzes are from HW). Exams can be proof-heavy so if you're not comfortable with them, PRACTICE! Prof. Lee takes questions at the start/end of class. Very helpful. If you do badly, you didn't try hard enough.
He is gonna be your worst college nightmare!! Don't take him!
He is an excellent and patient teacher. Linear algebra with him was very difficult with lots of proofs and the exams included some of the hardest homework questions but he is always willing to help. I took Calculus 2 with him also and his exams were straight from the homework. I highly recommend this professor!
I am taking his class right now as we speak. I do not consider myself bad at math. I got an A in my last class, but he is TERRIBLE! We have a quiz every single meeting and his teaching style does not help me learn. I will most likely have to take this class over again. Prepare to study extra hours & learn on your own from the book, he cannot teach
I have a 4.0 GPA, and his class made me feel like I was drowning. Painfully dull lectures, unhelpful, kind of a jerk - if you already have the material down, great. If you actually take classes to learn, he is a nightmare. His classes are an absolute waste of your time, brain cells and money.
His lectures are boring and dull. Half the class was falling asleep. I like math but this professor makes it boring and uninteresting.
Do not take any of his classes...I REPEAT .. DO NOT.. or be prepare to repeat class again.
I would never recommend Mr. Lee. I worked incredibly hard to receive a B, even though I got 99% in precal and 98% in cal 1. His explanations were more confusing than reading examples in he book, and his pop quizzes really hurt your grade. He's a very smart man, but has little idea how to simplify concepts for lower level math students.
I've been getting As in all my math courses, except for Lee's class, I got a D in his class. I took his class a few years ago, only 3/9 students passed that class. One of 9 students had taken the same class with him twice, but still did not pass the third time. What a horrible teacher !
Prof. Lee is the worst Math teacher - ever! Trigonometry is not his subject, neither is teaching. He knows the material, but chooses not to teach it orally. He simply comes to class and writes math problems on the board, and then leaves for his next class. Warning: Stay away or you will fail the course, or take it twice. Avoid Prof Lee at all costs
worst teacher ever, wonder why is he still allowed to teach , most student fail or drop before end of semester.
Hard Grader, can t teach without using notes in doing proofs. modest math skills. grades grammar when tested on theorems. quizzes everyday. too many students drop the classes. and many students repeat the class just to pass. he should focus more on teaching then busting students GPAs. weak teaching skills. should teach low level math.
He just gives homework with out taching and askes the next day if u would like him to do a problem. Dont know how a teacher gives homework with out explaining. Hes really not much help at all. i did not learn one thing from him and i went to class regularly. He hates when other student try to help each other dont know why!
too many quizzes , weak teaching skills , get lost in his proofs and we have to wait for him to go through his text boot to figure things out. should not be allowed to teach calculus .otherwise nice guy
Doesn't teach concepts well... expects you to have mastered EVERYTHING in previous course, he will not explain anything you should already know. If you get lost in his lecture, he will not help you catch up... in other words USELESS as a teacher
No disrespect to Mr. Lee, but his Math 125 class has been the most challenging class in my college career, thus far. I am a 3.7 g.p.a student with over 50 units under my belt. To make the long story short, I can hold my own when it comes to academics. Nevertheless, Mr. Lee's Math 125 class made me second guess myself.
Not helpful whatsoever, does homework problems on the board but doesnt grade the homework. Doesnt exactly teach all of the concepts well and is a very hard grader. Its a waste of 2 hours and a half of your life because he just shows you how to do 3 or 4 problems and thats the lesson of the day.
Mr Lee is the most worse teacher that I have had. He is a kind of evil grader, he won't give you any credit for your work doesn't matter is you did a 90% correct on your math problem. Also, he do not grade the homework, so you have to do homework for no credit. This teacher smiles all the time, but I think, he enjoys hurting student's grades.
Professor Lee is a kind and knowledgeable person. A good professor he is not. There are problems in the homework that are not discussed in class. I am a 3.8 GPA student, and spend roughly 12 hours per week on homework and am still struggling in his class. If you want a nice guy to talk to Lee is it. If you want a good professor he is not.
This is first "W" I've had to take after taking 48+ units. He is lethargic, unhelpful, and not willing to go the extra mile to explain concepts. Normally I would be down on myself for getting behind a semester, but I have a 3.8 GPA and I was not willing to let it suffer because of this burnout. Take Kaviani, still difficult but a great professor
The Worst Teacher Ever! Puts a fake smile on his face to disguise his true self. He doesn't care about your grade, nor if you understand anything or not. He goes there to collect his paycheck. That's all. He is not a teacher. Don't waste your time and energy with this guy. Doesn't worth it. 99% of his students fail and not because they are stupid!!
This class was really interesting. I recommend the class and the professor. He is probably the most knowledgable teacher I've had and he can be pretty funny too which helps.
Very nice guy but probably the hardest grader on the planet!!! Only uses the book and his test are from the HW but he gives you about 100+ problems on every Chapter !!! Avoid him please !
Hes not that hard. All the test questions are home work problems. learned mor math in his class than any other. Great CLASS!!!!!
i herd my class had the hghest average in the department final. so he must be ok. hes nice
he assigns a seating chart in first week of class so make sure you sit in front of the class, because he speaks quietly. i really worked my ass off for whole semester and barely got a B. Overall, he's okay
He turned me from a poor math student to a good math student. He is an excellent teacher. His class fills up fast. So register early.
Avoid at all costs. Makes it so hard to learn. Very slow, explains simple problems in very complicated ways. Only shows one example from the section and its always the easiest one. Makes you memorize proofs and definitions for tests which are not required. He makes up the proofs, so you must write it his way or no points. No extra credit what so ev
He's very old school. Picks no favorites and treats everyone the same. There are 3 midterms(once a month) and a final. The exams are straight from HW which he does not collect. He gives extra credits on exams and curves the exams. His grading scale is also very forgiving since B starts from just 76%. Attendance is not required at all. Pretty nice.
Worst of all worlds.
I was an A student before this class. He spends more than half of the class attempting to solve a single homework question, and spends the rest of class doing no more than two examples per section. No study guide and the tests are hard. Take anyone except for him.
If you enroll in this class, make sure you already have a good understanding of calculus. You will not be learning calculus in this class, you will be reviewing it. Teaching is almost nonexistent. This is not my first bad experience with the Math professors at LACC. They seem to be more proud of failing students than teaching them.
great class explains math very clearly knows his stuff
This was a very good class. The lectures were clear. The subject is very interesting.
A real math teacher. From proofs to lazy, this guy is the real deal. He is too lazy to grade, so HW is optional ,but assigns plenty of it and it's crucial to passing. Proofs must be done his way and precise to his liking. Tests are tough, but are hw problems, so do it! Lecture almost doesn't exist. COPY EVERYTHING ON THE BOARD that is what he wants
Super nice guy. Nicest professor at LACC. However, he is a very difficult grader and expects that you learn everything from the book. never quite sure what would be on the test so just had to know everything. He explains things slowly and clearly. twas the hardest I ever had to work for a B. I get mostly A's. I would go grab coffee with him any day
If you're the type that struggles with math then don't take this teacher. Very confusing and super old school teaching style. Writes problems up on the board and doesn't explain them. Also makes many mistakes. Got an F with this teacher and re-took the class with a different teacher and got an A.
Want to get an A? Take his class only if you had been good with math in the past. Read the material before class. Lectures are mostly applications because this class is 2 in 1 (124A & B) so it runs fast. Solve past practice tests he'll give you, they are CRUCIAL. No surprises after 2nd test. No excuses accepted. Work work work, and you'll get an A.
Avoid at all costs
I don't like to complain, but unfortunately, I've ended up with this awful Professor. He feels as if I'm not worth 5 minutes of his time, he has about 95% of his student failing his class. He hands out Zero's, as if they are candy! He show's no concern at all for any of his students. This man is colbooded, stay away! Im serious as a heartattack!
He's a really good teacher.
One of the best classes I ever took.
His lectures are straightforward and clear. I do recommend him.
took his 261. the best class i ever took. learned so much
Be ready to be confused.
As a person, he is generally a good man. As a mathematitian, he is pretty good what he does. But, as a professor, he cannot really do his job well. You cannot really learn the material in class. You need much more help outside the class. Even with the help, you cannot excel the tests because he grades those tests very harshly.
Do not take this class unless you have eidetic memory. You will need to memorize complicated proofs exactly as he shows you. The tests are graded by how identical they are to his solutions and not whether or not they are correct. If you take this class, expect a C or lower unless you are a mathematical genius.
we were 30 students , every test he give us at the end of class the most of student drop the class . he is the worst instructor In the world don't ever think to take with him . at least 5 student drop the class
This was the second time I took this class, but this professor wants you to do everything by the book. There are no exceptions and he expects you to know all the proofs word by word or he will deduct huge chunks of points. All the lectures were wasted on doing homework problems that he can't even solve without looking at his solutions manual.
The worst Professor I have had in my life . Don't ever think to take with him . He is the hardest grader i have seen , he will give u 3 tests worth 60% and the final 40% . He doesn't know how to teach .
his tests are very similar to homework no surprises so, hes not a tough grader
Professor Lee is an outstanding instructor he able to provide with step by step instructions to solve the problems. If you need him to go over the problem again he will happily oblige. He gives partial credit even if the answer is incorrect. One of the best math instructor I've ever had.
I took math 125 before with a different teacher and failed. I was on the verge of giving up until Professor Lees class. He takes the time to help his students understand. Also he is a patient and wonderful teacher who cares about his students and will do everything to help you pass. I am thankful for this professor.
I'd taken Math 125 before and didnt like it. I dropped. I thought I just didn't like the subject, but it turns out it was the professor. Prof Lee is great. Really good at explaining the material and makes it much more tolerable. I would recommend.
He is so nice. He encourages questions and makes sure all the students understands the material before moving on. He is very organized lectures. He's randomly hilarious. Hope I get him for 263.
This is an amazing subject. The professor is also very good. I liked the Saturday class. Highly recommended.
Prof Lee is a really nice guy, he is patient & kind. If you already have a really good (and i mean REALLY GOOD) grasp on math rules youll probably be fine. Hwk is assigned but not worth credit towards your grade. Participation in class gives you credit but the way he grades is all tests. 4 tests, 3 worth 20% each and the final worth 40%. HARD.
I have taken him for 2 semesters. He really cares about his students and will give you his time if you need it. He has the ability to make you interested even if you don't like math. He is able to break math down to real-life situations. Highly recommended.
Prof is smart, goes over the most of the problems we would see in a test, which is helpful. 2 Exams + Final total, no quizzes. Drops lowest test grade for final grade if higher. Generous partial cred. Tough class, but fair. You get what you put out in it.
Tests are the only thing youre graded on. There are three tests, each worth 20% of your grade, while the final (which is cumulative) is worth 40%. He grades arbitrarily, looking to take as many points off as possible - I solved an entire multi-step quadratic problem but forgot to write plus/minus and he took over half the credit away. AVOID HIM!!!
a kind professor gives lotsof extra crdt
He's easy going. Tries to make students feel comfortable in his class, no pressure He drops the lowest test.
I admire this professor. He really loves teaching. Tutor helped a lot. Taking Lee was the best choice. I feel thankful.
This subject is the best. More interesting than calculus. He really cares about us and wants us to understand the material and succeed. Do the H.W. pass the tests or ur out!
It is true, that professor Lee is a kind person, but when it comes to lecturing he doesnt really explain the problems, what he does is solve the problems on the board and expects for you to understand every step. he gives lots of hw but they are worth no points. only the quizzes and tests are the ones making up the grade for the whole semester.
He is patient explains thoroughly makes it interesting recommend
Not good enough to teach a highly complex subject
no, just no for Math 125, it is already a medium level math you want to understand the material, it is not going to happen with him. he is respected but he does not explain whatsoever.
a difficult subject Prof Lee explains it well
beautiful subject, best professor, highly recommended
Professor Lee is an exceptional teacher. He explains things clearly and precisely and anticipates areas that trip students up. I will be taking more classes with him.
Very hard class and he isn't much help. There were a lot of errors on the tests (only 4 tests that made up your entire grade) which just makes a classes that stresses you out even worse.
excellent prof greatclass
Lee is knowledgeable but expects a lot from his students. His class consists of him reviewing selected questions from the homework and then explaining the next chapter by solving questions from the book. He also has a high standard for answer formats. I would not recommend for those who need help with calculus.
nice man great teacher take him if you get a chance
good organized prof. explains well. recommended. curves up grades.
3 tests + final. tests are like the homework. do the homework
great for math125 online. well organizedclear
He's a nice enough guy, but I felt a massive disconnect between lectures and tests. He's responsive to questions, if you know what to ask, but doesn't offer much feedback otherwise. Admittedly, I'm no math major, but 90% of my class failed the final. He's notoriously difficult. I would recommend another professor for Non-Math majors especially.
The class started out in person, but switched to online after a month. He's pretty easy with the online tests. I recommend him for that. Miss his lectures. Maybe he'll zoom next time.
had him last year. a good teacher
He is easy for an online class. Gives 4 tests. Allows open book notes internet calculator. Anybody can pass
He's easy for an online math125. I can understand yim
Hes good for precalculus. organized, keeps it simple, clear explanations,easy-going. Nice prof
An enthusiastic math professor. Lots of energy. Funny. good at explaining math
Several years ago I took math125, math260, math261, math262, math270, and math 275 with Professor Lee. I started out with C's and D's and finished with A's and B's. I have since finished BS and and MS degrees in EE and am working as an electrical engineer. Don't miss out on taking math classes with Professor Lee! You'll be glad you did!
I took him for Math270. His class was hard, but if you did the homework problems then you would be prepared for the test.
This guy solves 1 or 2 basic examples in class, and does it slowly, but not to go over each step. No, he just talks very slow and doesn't give you a decwnt understanding of the concepts. His exams almost do not reflect his class examples and homeworks. I dropped the class and took a better teacher and got an A.
Hes so nice. I was in hes zoom office hours every day and he was always kind and patent. Take him You'll be glad you did.
I never thought Id get a B in a mathclass. But thanks to prof lee I made it! Takehim! Hes kind and patient
He gives you all of the homework at the beginning of the semester and there was a lot of class time to get to know the material BUT his tests weren't really like the homework at all and during class all he does is solve random homework examples, as opposed to myself preferring lessons instead.
open book, open notes, calculator. easy for a math class. well organized on canvas. easy to understand. makes it simple.
Yes! this course was supposed to be tough but prof Lee made it easy. All lectures recorded on zoom, went over what would be on tests, lots of help with canvas, hard tests but forgiving grading. Really liked the course
A good experience. This prof tries and he cares about his students.
Professor Lee is an amazing teacher. He works through your questions with you if you have them during lecture or outside of class. He is able to break down complex topics into smaller ideas that you can understand. You won't regret taking his class.
I admire this prof. He's really have a passion for teaching. So cool. Taking Lee was the best choice I've ever made in LACC. Since, it is my last semester of college, I feel thankful.
I love Professor Lee. He's lectures are easy to follow. Gives homeworks weekly but it is a way to get more practice on what you're learning. He's very considerate and easy to approach. Take him :)
he explains stepbystep makes online easy always willing to listen tome take him!
Do not take for Calc II. Does not teach. Stops and struggles to solve problems. Will assign lots of homework, not collect it, and the test will look nothing like the homework. Appeared to enjoy that more than half the class failed the first test. If you have time to teach yourself and have a tutor, take the class. Otherwise, avoid at all costs.
take his onlinene class youll be glad you did well organized makes the online thing easy hes relaxed not pushy very calm helpful
Professor Vin Lee is the best math prof @ LACC. He's nice and laid back. He has been great to have during this Covid lockdown and Zoom. No "busy work" you are graded on just 4-5 exams, which are VERY fair, exactly like the examples he does in lecture and HW, and often has extra credit. Learn the material, take the exams, get an A, easy. Lee Rocks!
Not a difficult class. Everything is on Canvas so you get access for it at any time. Exams arent tough if you know the material. His lectures are excellent! Textbook is good. Definitely buy the book. Good class.
Great online class. So much easier not to have to drive to campus. Very well organized and he is nice - patient and helpful.
Professor Lee is one of the best. I would like to take him again. He's very patient and helps you a lot but when it comes to lecture he might be a little boring but you need to pay attention to what his saying. There is no homework but when it comes to the test you need those homework notes to help you.
horrible
Professor is a tough grader. He finds any little excuse to take off points from exams. Even if your answer is correct he will still mark it wrong and tells you the steps are not the way he want it. more than half the class failing. I do not recommend.
To all my math lovers out here, DONOT take this professor. He takes off points from the exam even the answers are correct. His grading system is awful and he doesnt even shows why he cuts points from the exam. He grades the exam by his TA and he doesnt even care for his students. Do not waste your life by taking this professor
great professor. hard class
Work is very hard and he doesn't care if the class is passing or not. Take another teacher if you want to pass Calculus he is the worse.
Hard class You may be correct but if "your work makes no sense" you will get 0 points. Everything should be done his way if you can memorize things the way he would want it + feel confident in math take this class otherwise stay away. He can be unorganized & make typos on tests realize it very late & when you ask for more time, his answer is no.
He wants you to do a problem the way he does it if not no points. Minus points for little mistakes and dont care if the class is passing or not. Do your self a favor and take another professor yes Calculus is a hard subject but he is the worse professor to teach you Calculus.
Very challenging course for a winter semester but in the end made sure those who deserved it passed. be sure to participate so he knows you know the material. be clear when taking your test and do things the way he wants them (had to learn that the hard way) willing to meet with you during office hours but is very strict with what is in syllabus.
I took this class in hopes of having a good experience but that was not the case. This professor expects you to do his tests in a pdf form. If you need help and try to email him, don't try because he will not answer. Very disappointed in the lack of respect for students and helping one another out in general. Would not recommend.
I hate math, but liked this class. The professor is very patient answering questions in class. I did the whole course on my android phone using a youtube video he put in the canvas shell. He knows how to teach and has a knid attitude toward students.
Took Professor Lee for Math 262 in the winter. 5 weeks was tough, but most of us passed. Almost all took him again for Math 263 this spring. This is a great course when you have 15 weeks. He is the best professor I have had in math so far. These classes are online with no live Zoom lectures.
Nonsensical "grading". He starts with the assumption that you cheated and arbitrarily gives 0 pts to a problem that was answered correctly. If you contest it, he will pretend not to understand your work or be able to read it, and try to trip you up to see if he can believe that you did the work yourself.
Took him for 262 and 263. I learned so much math. More than I ever did. Highly recommended.
Professor skips a lot of steps when teaching and gets frustrated if you ask to explain the steps. A lot of "mental math" is done. He will also spend 10 minutes explaining a math problem only to realize he did it wrong and would have to redo it. This happened multiple times and thankfully a student would correct him.
liberal arts math in 5 weeks summer session. Not may favorite subject but the prof make it interesting. I recommend him if you have to take amath class
the most amazing lectures. he can explain anything and make it simple. don't miss taking him
hey guys does this professor make zoom meetings required? like for yes dislike for no lol thank you!
Very clear explanations and proofs. Can answer any question. Well organized. Patient. What more could you ask for?
Professor grades by TESTS ONLY. If you're bad at doing homework but grasping concepts easily, this prof is for you. Final is worth 40% of your grade. Gives up to 5 points to your overall grade if you score well in a math competition. He's very old so be patient. Grades quickly and provides recorded lectures from previous classes. Great professor.
Not a very good professor. currently taking him for a 5 week winter course and so far all he's done is regurgitate information from our text book and then proceeds to take about 20 minutes to finish one problem from the text book without explaining the steps. Don't take his class unless you plan on reading just the cal 2 textbook that we're using.
tests only, horrible professor dont ever take him
The ratings about Winter course is all true. He teaches too slow for a winter course and always have exam questions that does not reflect the homework. So I relied mostly on YouTube for the knowledge that is required to pass this course. Did all the homework and gave my heart out to obtain a B in this course. Never going to take Winter course again
I wouldn't recommend this course in a 5 week session. Way too much. That said, the prof really knows his stuff and knows how to teach.
all of those ratings are like a trap. His syllabus is only tests (10%,15%,15%,20%,40%, from the first test until the final). Give extra credits ONLY when you go to the math club. Your answers on the test should be like his. Type of teacher who teaches only to improve his knowledge. if u want to survive, just copy his ways and participate in class.
I leaned so much. Highly recommend. Worried about online, but it turned out ok.
this is probably one of the most awful and horrible professor i have taken in my life. he is very stubborn ab doing the math problems in his way only and even if the steps and answers are right he gives it a zero and he refuses to give any type of points. 90% of the class dropped it because of him. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! AWEFUL!!
His way of solving math problems helped me clear my mind. His teaching method is the key reason why I can learn well! It will help me in the UC system. I thank him very much! I learned a lot in this class, but I also understand his good intentions.
Very meaningful and helpful.
This is one of the very worst professors I've ever had. On the first day, after taking over an hour to go over the syllabus, he started lecture on the material. No introductions, no organizations, no lecture, no general concepts. He just started doing problems from the homework. What the hell is this? He shouldn't be teaching.
The worst professor I've ever had. He doesn't teach you ANYTHING. If you want to study independently and put a lot of extra work into learning something, he is a perfect fit for you. When I come into class, I expect the professor to actually do his work. Uses printed textbook. Not familiar with technology. Switching classes to have a chance to pass
Professor Lee might throw some students off because he can seem a bit old-school. However, he is actually an amazing lecturer, and his grading criteria is clear. As long as you're willing to do the work and ask questions, he is always willing to help. You will do well as long as you put in the work!
All you have is 4 exams to take to make your grade. He doesn't even care to offer any additional help or effort and does not offer partial credit for questions on exams. Even after seeing that the course's average was very low he still did not offer to curve. The lowest received were in the 30s and the highest was barely an 80.
Unless you are extremely genius or good at math, don't take his class. For this class mostly you have self-study if you want to get a good grade on this class.
He is a very passionate professor! I love how he did a classroom with pencil and paper at his home. Its like a virtual class and very effective. Very caring if he sees you participate. I shouldve gotten the textbook, since I couldve review what we discussed.
Professor Lee seems to heavily rely on the textbook, with little additional teaching. The class can be tough without extra effort, but unstuck study ai proved a helpful supplement for study prep.
Graded on 4 tests with NO extra credit offered this semester. Lectures consist of doing only homework problems, but he tends to skip steps, making it confusing if you're behind on reading. Expect to learn concepts on your own from the textbook or online.
He's extremely old and talks and moves way too slow so basically nothing gets covered in lecture, yet attendance is mandatory. Lectures are useless and he gets questions wrong completely. I think he needs to seriously think about retiring as he does not seem like he can handle this work anymore.
Very straightforward. If you put in the effort and time, you should have no problem receiving a solid grade in this class. Homework prepares you well for the exams and are similar in difficulty to the test questions. Although the homework is not graded, do it or don't pass.
Graded by only 4 exams & he's a harsh grader. Exams are harder than homework, ie all the problems in lecture & homework are solvable by hand, but some exam problems can only be solved by calculator. Doesn't respond by email/canvas, so go to office hours. Only mentioned extra credit once, which is only attainable by completing in math competition.
Calculus 3. well organized, clear, high standards. online course. great experience. very convenient. highly recommended
JUST DON'T TAKE HIM
Online course, took it from my dorm room at UCSB. Very good course and professor.
he's nice and soooo patient. I waht to take him again
Professor Lee is a very good professor. I have now taken 5 college math classes and he is the best one I've ever had. His lectures are clear and he doesn't waste too much time on abstract material that isn't necessary for the class. His tests are difficult, but he is a very generous grader.
Took Calc 3. He explains everything so clearly and does not waste time during lecture. He will give background information needed to understand material. His tests are a bit difficult but if you do your work you'll do great.
I love math. I take it very seriously. But, this professor is a slow and awful teacher, and I had to learn 90% of the course through my textbook. He is an harsh grader and gives virtually no partial credit. If you don't get the right answer, even if you did most of the problem right. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS! This man shouldn't be allowed to teach.
Prof Lee is very skilled and organized. He can be tough on you but also very generous with partial credit. He values your approach on solving the question more than if you cant get to the answer. Homework problems really prepare you for the tests. His online course is very well organized. Take him!
