This class is a cakewalk. Professor is very knowledgeable. He is also a little weird and is pretty funny. No lab reports and no quizzes. Test material is from power point and not textbook. He gives full review sessions before tests and tells you exactly what will be on the test. He even posted parts of the tests on blackboard. Extra credit.
Very knowledgeable, he should be cuz he got a scholarship from university of Oxford. He gave a very explicit lecture on HIV. Test comes straight from the PowerPoint. Test has 2 sections, part A &B, and part B is take home. Easy A, plus 4 points extra credit when you write an essay. And a powerpoint is due on a disease of ur choice.
He is the BEST! You can learn so much from his lectures. They are super interesting and funny! Before each exam, he will tell you exactly what will be on it. He is so efficient at grading that all grades for any exam or lab exercise are posted on Blackboard on that same day! The labs are so easy (no lab reports whatsoever). Text book not required.
He really loves his subject. No textbook use at all. Everything comes straight from the power points which are on blackboard. He explains everything clearly and tells you what you need for each test. Labs are very relaxed and not always graded. He is a very easy professor if you pay attention to the lectures and turn in assignments.
I love professor Ng, he's very knowledgeable! It's important that you attend labs. Learned alot, but you do have to study!!I would recommend taking him!!
He is a really nice guy. Hes not uptight and can laughs ALOT for no reason. Hell be like this is RAB ATPASE...HAHAHAH...class is really easy. Tells you all of the questions hes gonna ask you on the test. I mean reall??? EASSY A. Just take him for any bio.
great professor
Dr. Ng is really laid back. He's funny and extremely intelligent. He doesn't treat students like kids. I took his honors class and found him to be just the right mix of laid back and knowledgeable. The textbook is not needed at all. The more thorough you are in your labs and papers the closer you'll be to an A.
Also too him for 101, again he's a great teacher. Classes aren't mandatory, but you can't get an A unless you pay attention to his lectures. He explains things really well and loves his subject. He studied a lot of the diseases we discuss, so he's very knowledgeable.
LOVED this teacher. Had him for just lab, and it was so easy! Just go to class, get the lab done, and you can leave. About 20 minutes after class started, we would leave. EASY! really funny guy.
He made clear in the beginning of the semester that he is not going to be easy on us and that is exactly what he did. The class got harder and harder and so as the tests. He is a nice individual overall and very knowledgeable about the subject matter.
Dr. Ng is the best science professor that NOVA has offered. His lectures are so interesting and I learned a lot from his classes. Dr. is super smart, nice, very organized. He gave us the excellent reviews what would be on the tests. His tables of the microorganisms are amazing and help us a lot for the tests. I got an A. Highly recommended!!!
Easy A, no homework, gives you a copy of test before to study from, and had 1 take home test. Extremely thorough and actually teaches what you need to know, barely need to read textbook, I never did since all his lectures are on ppt. Great overall!
Best Professor NVCC has to offer. His class is interesting and all resources are available to you from day 1. He makes funny jokes and gestures during lab which is fun anyway. Has a lot of experience in the field, so he teaches what you need to know. Class is not an easy A if you don't study but I highly recommend taking with him!
Prof. Ng is a nice person, but not a good teacher. He crams a lot of info into every lecture (ppts over 100 slides) and directions are unclear. A lot of students expressed frustration. The work isn't necessarily hard, but the lack of clarity makes it more difficult than need be. Maybe he's better for higher level bio--which is more focused.
Professor Ng was a really great professor! You can tell he knows what he's talking about, and gives really great study guides for the tests. If you pay attention in class and study for the tests, it's an easy A, and you'll get to hear some really interesting stories.
He was really rude and didn't really know anything. The test reviews did not help at all. The extra credit helped, but that is only available with the Honors course.
Professor Ng is weird, but funny. He is very knowledgeable about the subject. I would rate his teaching skills as a B+. Gives thorough study guides, no book required (he uses power points), mandatory lab, you can skip out on lecture, half take home exam/ half in class.I got a solid A in this class.
Best class ever! I took the class over the summer for 6 weeks. He makes microbiology fun! No homework assignments or lab reports; just 1 project, 4 tests, 2 lab practicals, and an extra credit opportunity. Make sure to do the study guide (very similar to test). Keep in mind to study, this is a fun class, but it is also a 200 level course.
For honors, it wasn't that bad. Hardly any textbook use (mainly powerpoints), study guides for exams, research paper, and four exams. He gives you the tools to get an A, it's up to you to put effort in it.
he is an awesome prof. He is an oxford graduate with scholarship so he is very inspiration. straight forward lectures and exams but you have to put an effort to get an A. he is the best for any biology class.
Dr. Ng is a great professor! He is super smart and is an expert in microbiology field. He also has a great sense of humor and gives interesting lectures. You will learn a lot from him. Paying attention in class and study guide are keys to success. He is also very kind and generous when it comes to extra-credit opportunity. Thank you professor Ng!
Dr. Ng is very knowledgeable and I learned a lot in his class. he is the best for any biology so Don't miss his class. Being in his class to learn is a lifetime opportunity for any bio or medical major student.
Dr Ng speaks very softly so it's hard to hear him. He doesn't use a textbook, and his PP's are just a mess and really don't help at all. His labs are very confusing bc he just talks about them and then expects you to know what to do. He gives 4 exams (60 multi. choice/ 3 short answer/10-15 T/F or fill in) and 2 lab practicals. I wouldn't recommend.
He is smart for sure but you sort of have to teach yourself because his lectures are pretty boring and for the most part they are cut and dry. Study guide is basically the only way to pass the tests but even if you do them they are not easy to understand and there are still questions on the test that aren't in the guides. Would take a dif prof tbh
He's definitely very knowledgable. He's also funny, kind, and approachable. He provides straightforward study guides for all 4 of the exams and the lab exam as well , he also gives extra credit opportunities . So if you study from his study guides there's no way you'll get anything below a B.
Professor Ng is the best and the most knowledgable professor in NOVA. His tests are super easy and he gives really easy projects. Since he gives a lot of grades, you don't have to stress out on tests or anything since you'll be able to make it up in the projects. This class is insanely easy if you study for like 30-60 minutes once a week.
Lectures suck. You don't learn anything from them. Expect to learn everything from MyLab and quizlet. You can miss the lecture portion of the class. not strict on dress code in the lab or participation. Inflates the grades on blackboard then you find out where you stand at the end of the semester when you can't do anything about it.
lectures are so boring. he gives a 3 point extra credit opportunity. Dont worry about buying the book because you wont use it. the first test was pretty hard. the second one was okay. the last two test he gives you all the questions, except for some. you should be able to pass the class with at least a B. This class is not super easy but not hard
Took him over the summer, very knowledgeable. The best part was that he's not out to get you when it comes to grading. He practically gives you the test, but you do have to work for your grade still. Amazing professor, he tries to make the class fun, very lenient, I'd definitely recommend. You still have to work for it though, micro's tough, 6tests
Absolutely fantastic professor, very knowledgable and passionate on the topic. Makes it very relevant to healthcare students which is appreciated. Lecture isn't mandatory, but the people that skipped it missed out on a lot since he doesn't go off a textbook. Just be respectful, listen, and you'll learn so much in this course! Would take again!
took him, very hard B would not take again due to him saying umm after every sentence 5 times if you want a headache would take, but for class he gives you tests have to remember 130 questions 50 will be asked on test and if that easy C for your tests A is nearly impossible unless you have photographic memory
He is very entertaining and will keep the lectures & labs enjoyable. No book or work other than tests. Pay close attention to what he says in class, it might pop on the exam. He provides a solid steady guide that will get you a definite B on the exam, but you have to study the small details to get an A. There isn't a reason to have a C or lower.
Funny teacher. First tests are HARD, so you MUST study. He gives extra credit opportunities and that helps. Labs are fun.
He's alright. The tests are very hard, I failed the first two and had to work extremely hard to get a B. There is no homework and no way for you to practice, you are completely on your own. Questions on the tests are not only from the material, but from the lectures, so if your not paying attention, you won't find it in the notes. Labs are fun, tho
I really like his teaching style, it was a bit of DIY but the study guides really helped. The labs were AMAZING!! The tests are both multiple choice and short answer but if you study you'll most definitely pass with an A
He brought experience to the class. The best class i have ever experience i am learning and visualizing this by using the most powerful tool, research article on every major topic covered. He is such an inspiration in my life.
He goes through the powerpoint too fast to take notes by hand, you're stuck memorizing the study guides to get by. That being said, it's not terrible, just be prepared to put in a lot of time studying for the tests. I probably didn't learn anything long-term. No book or Lab book required
Lectures werent mandatory, but labs were. The only thing that counts toward your grade are the 4 tests, final, and homework on Pearson. The tests were based on the practice tests on Pearson so if you memorized them it would be easy. Personality wise, he was ok.
I took bio 101 with this professor. Exams are easy if you follow his instruction. He will talk like he wont really care but hes caring and know his students. Labs are fun but Attendence is mandatory for lab class. He gives extra credit options and you will definitely pass the class if you pay just a little attention. His lectures are interesting.
Dr Ng is a very knowledgeable, smart, funny and quick-witted professor with very impressive credentials. Lucky to find someone so well-qualified in NVCC! He opens your eyes to latest advances in the field, great for Bio majors. Motivated students will learn a lot. Very clear guidelines for exams and not overly burdensome assignments.
The professor could be very condescending. It was clear he thought he was better than his students, and he criticized us for things we didn't know from previous education institutes. The powerpoints were extremely long no shorter than 40 slides each, he sped through everything. The powerpoints are online so you don't NEED to show up to lectures.
The professor is brilliant. He is very funny. His lecture are lively and fantastic. You won't be swamped with homework. You just need to do a presentation. Took it last summer and got the credit in 5 weeks. It doesn't feel too rush even at all. Much better than a 16 week class. Extra credits available to bring up your grade.
Professor Ng was amazing, I learned so many things from this course. His lectures are fast paced but its fun. He gives few extra credits throughout the course. Theres no homework, but one presentation. He is smart and inspirational, take him if you actually want to learn something. (Most of his tests are found online)
He keeps the class interesting. It was such a fun class and the work was manageable. The teacher is Awesome!! Best Teacher I have had at NOVA. Choose him for Micro 150!!
Dr. Ng was very knowledgeable. He knows what he is talking about. He reads his PowerPoint but also explain them. He gives a lot of extra credit. Attendance is not mandatory but he gives extra points to those with 0-2 absences. He is a very straight forward and loves his job. I would recommend him for BIO 150. It is a lot of work yet worth it.
Honestly, take him. I have 100% in his class. He gives you the questions that will be on the tests, he doesn't care about lecture attendance, although it IS extra credit. He also gives extra credit assignments. The only people who do badly in his class are the ones who don't do anything at all, and if that's the case why take a class at all?
He made lectures and labs very interesting and always helped you out whenever you need help. He could be mean sometimes but honestly, he is the best biology professor at Nova so far. For anyone in biology majors, take him because he will give you the best lectures and important information for your major and etc. Take him you won't regret.
This was my favorite professor ever. At first I wasnt so sure but he grew on me. If youre premed I highly recommend him! I learned so much about latest cancer treatment etc! Loved this class and I will miss it.
He gives you the questions to the exams and the possible prompts for his short answer questions on the exam but be warned he requires at least a full page and you cant have any notes whatsoever. So basically memorize 100 questions and a full essay and the number of short answers increases by each exam. Course is LECTURE HEAVY its like 100 slides
I took BIO101 during the Fall 2020 semester. The overall course grade was made up of 4 lecture exams, 3 lab exams, a group presentation, Pearson homework, extra credit and attendance. Even though this professor demonstrates an expert knowledge of this course material, he often comes across as rude when asked for clarification by students.
Five stars teacher! For students who enjoy learning and who love to meet intelligent and inspirational people, this professor is a gem. One of the best biology teachers I've ever had! He prepares well for exams and provides extra-credit too. I wish he taught more science classes at NOVA!
he is fun. but somehow his teaching style really confuses students even with easy concepts. Lecture is not that hard, somewhat manageable. But I won't take him again. I wish he would stop burping so much teaching on zoom. it was so painful to hear his deep loud burp multiple times during lectures. yuck!
He is amazing ! He is very knowledgeable and he makes the class fun . NOT ASSIGNMENT , you do not have to submit any assignments for lecture or lab. 4 lectures exams and 3 lab exam. He DOES NOT use lockdown browser , so all the test are open book , even he gave you study guide before hand and 70% of the test come straight from it.
He is extremely condescending. He responds to questions with an unnecessary patronizing tone (even via email). Makes obnoxious comments like "half of you are probably going to die from cancer. If you actually want to learn the material, you're better off picking a professor who provides a healthier learning environment.
Currently taking him for my online course. Although incredibly knowledgeable, he does not accommodate for people new to the higher education system. He expects you to be on his level when it comes to content and that just isn't possible. He also is consistently condescending and inconsiderate to students who are struggling to grasp content.
I am currently taking him for my online classes he doesnt require camera for test he allows you to take it during your own time and as well 80% of the questions come from a practice questions on person so their not too hard and the lab exam are ok just gotta look over the lab w/ the answers best part he doesnt make you do them and then em in
This is my second time taking this professor. I took him for bio 101 and now 150. I'm not going to lie, it's a challenging course if you're striving for an A, but it's definitely possible. He's a great professor, very intelligent and funny. He responds to emails and grades within a few hours which is amazing! Hard class but that's not on the prof.!
Professor Ng was an amazing Microbiology professor! He was straightforward about everything that was going to be on the exams. It was a super fast paced course, but always responded to emails immediately. I highly recommend taking him for 150. If you put in the time and effort, you will be successful in the course.
It was a challenging class but you have to work extra hard to get a good grade. I just found it super nasty how he kept burping every second.
Microbiology is a hard subject. The 4 lecture and lab exams were hard. Do the extra credit essay! Lecture notes won't save you during exams. Memorize the study guides they'll come in handy on test day!!!. Truth be told if the course wasn't virtual I would've failed it in person
This professor responds to emails very rudely and tries to make you feel dumb when you ask for help. He is condescending and always late. I would not recommend taking this class with this professor. I am very patient when it comes to professors but his behavior limited me from learning all that I could from this course.
This professor has a very condescending attitude. Aside from that, the class was not too difficult. Exams consist of 80 questions, with 70 of them coming from Pearson My Lab(just have to memorize). No lab write ups either which was the best part. Take him if you just want an easy grade. His class is easily manageable compared to other bio classes.
Professor Ng is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. He held lectures for up to 2 1/2 hours after scheduled class time. He did anything to keep us in class until the very last second, and always waited to take attendance until the end. He is extremely condescending and will not answer your questions helpfully or treat you with respect. Yikes.
Micro is a tough subject but he is a good teacher and provides many extra credit opportunities which you should take advantage of! If you put in the work to study daily and review his practice questions and study guide there is no reason why you should get less than a C in his class he wants you to pass even occasionally curves grades!
prof ng made it easy to get an A. lab attendance is mandatory, but they're easy and there are no lab reports. lecture exams are the EXACT same as the practice questions. there is a group project and essay but he didn't grade them harshly. lab exams were kinda hard but they're all online. pay attention and you should be fine
This is one of the worst professors I have taken at nova. On the first day of class, he told us if that we don't speak English that well that we should drop his class immediately. He also said if anyone has a bit of an accent in this country we will get nowhere. He was extremely condescending and rude. He would go off-topic all the time. Just don't
Bro is extremely entitled and rude for NO reason. I never say anything because I am not that type of student and I'm just trying to graduate but dang I've heard him be so rude to my classmates and make us feel unknowledgeable or for a better word, stupid. I'm pretty sure he's the only BIO 206 professor at the Woodbridge campus so it's so annoying.
I literally never write reviews but seriously don't take him. Notice how any good review was literally years ago
Very smart and funny! Lectures are awesome and inspiring. He makes things easy to understand and relevant to daily life. All lectures and lab materials are developed by him and no purchase needed! Lots of interesting stories to tell. He practically gives you all the questions to study for exams. Easy to get a good grade if you actually study!
Very knowledgeable! Can answer almost any questions in Biology. He developed all lecture and lab materials himself and no need to purchase any textbooks! Save $$! Awesome lectures with latest updates on important diseases like Covid and HIV. Exams not hard and some can be done online. Comprehensive study guide and questions provided for exams.
Provided very good feedback to essays. Great lectures. Very up to date with latest development in the filed which many profs don't! Very friendly and lots of good stories to share. Those who leave negative feedback are probably those who got caught cheating, such as using AI to write essays. If you really want to learn Biology, he's the guy!
I took BIO 150 and had a wonderful experience. He always found a way to tie in stories along with the material we were learning that allowed for me to retain the info better and he was very funny. Made me excited to learn about microbiology. 10/10 would recommend and would take again.
This class is an easy A. Your grade is mostly participation quizzes from every lecture class and exams. For the exams, he gives you the MOST helpful study guide ever!! It's a blessing. Compared to other Professors I've heard about, he's more laidback and the work is lightweight. You can tell he actually loves what he teaches.
Easy A if you participate just a little. I took him for bio 101 and 150, got an A in both classes. Even though is a night class, you will never get bored! He does the labs with us step by step.He let's out burps and farts here and there, he does not really care.If you want an A and don't really care, take Professor Ng! No textbook required!
This was the easiest class I have taken! Took him for six-week class and it was a breeze!! Professor makes everything very clear to understand. three out of 6 exams were open-note and online, he completes the quizzes during class, so dont miss it. Tons of extra credits! Honestly, I wish he would teach more bio classes.
Professor Ng was good, not great when it came to his email responses, understanding nor caring for his students' concerns, and slightly rude. I did appreciate his great depth of knowledge, inspirational lectures and great examples relating to his lecture topics which made lectures very fun, dynamic. I recommend him but I prefer another professor.
I highly recommend this instructor because he cares about his students passing the course. He provides us with the ability to pass even with setbacks. This is my third time taking this course, and my first time with professor Ng. Now I'm passing the class with flying colors. TAKE HIM IM SO FR!!
While taking this class it was very obvious that Prof. Ng was passionate about biology. Though I often zoned out his lectures (most of the time), the test banks that he provides make it really easy to pass the exams. As long as you show up, do the proper assignments and homework, you'll be fine.
He was a really good professor. If you want someone who really knows about cell biology then you're at the right place given he graduated from oxford university. No homework! We had 4 lecture exams and 2 labs exams and several essays. He definitely reads your essay and gives long detail feedback. DONT USE CHATGPT ON ESSAYS HE WILL KNOW, WARNING LOL
Dr. Ng is clearly an expert on the subject and constantly has stories to tell. He is funny and makes the lectures interesting. Gives really good exam reviews to prep. Uses his own slides so no textbook needed. Material is difficult but he provides plenty resources. He grades super fast! He moves quickly and it helped keep me engaged. Take him!!
Very experienced and most knowledgeable professor. Material is challenging, not an easy A, but plenty of resources to help you succeed. His study guides are very useful, many exam questions come from them. Half of the exams are taken online, helpful for students who test better at home. Labs are hands on, no lab reports. Offers extra credit essay.
You don't have to rely heavily on lectures to do well, but you do have to put in effort on your own. The study guides are key and many exam questions come from them. Quiz answers are covered in lecture, and while there are no lab reports, you still need to study if you want a good grade (it is a 4 credit class).
