boring class..but easy
Boring class, lifeless professor
class is somewhat boring but that is due to the topics, but vincent makes classs fun and enjoyable for all of us. thanks!
Pizzuto is one of the most incredible professors i have ever encountered. He is clear, precise(sp?) and knows what he's talking about. I didnt expect much from the class and i left with more knowledge and curiosity than ever about theology. i'm not an 8:30am person but i was there. and hes way hott.
Pizzuto is an overall good professor. Participation as well as doing the readings is key to getting the best grade in his class. But if you're shy (like me) I'd still take it coz the stuff he talks about made theology interesting, plus he's hot! His class isn't that hard, exams are essay questions but if u study them beforehand, no prob.
Difficult class to take without having a religious background, but he is a great professor who tries to help you as much as he can. Class can be boring, but he tries to help you as much as he can. Very approachable. Willing to answer any type of question, no matter how stupid. Plus he is hot!
He is one of the best professors in the Theology department....everyone should take his class
One of the best teachers, and brightest people, I've ever been around. I really respect this man.
semi hard class, lots of work, but the best lectures. very interesting and knowledgeable. girls think he is hot but guys think he may be gay. doesnt matter great professor.
Professor Pizzuto is brilliant, caring, patient, interesting, and HOT Eye Candy!!! I would recommend this class to anyone!
I enjoyed this class and would highly recommend taking this course with Prof. Pizzuto since he is very passionate of theology and one of the most dynamic professor's I have encountered in my brief college career.
He looks hot, and he teaches well. Though this class might requires a lot of work but oh well....u can learn a lot from it as well. If you just want to take an easy class and fulfill ur core, dont take this.
Great class and you really do learn a lot. Forget everything "Bible Studies" and Sunday School has taught you, this is the real deal. HOWEVER, too much effort for an "intro" class. I only realized it was a 200-level class AFTER I finished. Darn.
I don't know why everyone raves that Prof Pizzuto is so hot..I mean he is but there is always a lot better. Good thing about him is that he is a very passionate professor and his handouts are pretty good. However, he seems very fussy and a bi too strict...especially with his projects...it's a demanding class for sure
He doesn't know how to grade papers fairly!Although i got a very good score on his paper but i ended up with a much lower final grade. He even made it seem like I did a good job on the final exam, when in the end,the final score he gave me is completely inconsistent with his comments. He asks too much from a core class!AVOID him! He's unreasonable!!
no grading criteria whatsoever. syllabus was a good effort to be clear but still wasn't enough, hence the constant questioning about his syllabus through email. quizes were pointless, he asks really random un-connected questions. papers are a pain cos no internet sources allowed. nice person but sadly, screws your grade and GPA up.
Very good class, learn alot
He's a genius and he really, really knows his stuff. He makes a subject that can seem dusty and outdated really interesting. He values opinions, including those different from his own. He's tough, but a really great professor.....and he also happens to be totally gorgeous.
Really a smart professor. Am definitely glad that I took his class.
It's been a long time since I took his class, back in 2005 -- Sexuality in scripture I think(?). Can I say, he is HOT! Never thought Scripture study could be so pleasant. Picturesque indeed. The man is knowledgeable. Articulate at his best. Demands a lot in terms of reading. But overall, recommendable.
Really smart and really interesting. I looked forward to this class because he makes a possibly dull subject matter fun and enjoyable. Class does take a lot of work, especially reading. By no means an easy class. Paper is difficult because only text sources. Lectures are interesting and clear. He makes up for everything by being really hot!
Coming from a non-religious background, I was really dreading this class beforehand. I really enjoyed it though. Professor Pizzuto is one of the best teachers I've had at USF. He's funny, friendly, and manages to keep class interesting no matter how dry the subject is. If you do the reading than the quizzes are easy. Highly recommend!
I took this class over January intercession expecting a really boring and hard class. It turned out to be probably my favorite core class at USF. Professor Pizzuto is very smart, extremely knowledgeable on the subject, and has a good sense of humor. He managed to keep the class interesting even though it was 5 hours a day, 5 days per week.
Brilliant, insightful, and a natural teacher too! A rare find in college.
Very nice and wonder professor. I learned alot from him especially the mysteries of the Bible and etc. Also, a very respectful teacher as well.
By far my favorite teacher at USF! I had absolutely no interest in learning about Christianity, and after, I was filled with useful historical information and great insight on religions other than Christianity. He is extremely knowledgeable and keeps the class fun. He is also really cute...haha...and hysterical!
Great, interesting Prof. for a really interesting class. And he's hot to boot!
Great professor! I had so much fiun in the class and he is fair with the final exam and presentation. I recommend him 100% for anyone taking theology!
TAKE HIS CLASS!! I don't care what the class is about, I guarantee you will enjoy it. Prof Pizzuto is, by far, the best teacher I've had so far in college. He is extremely knowledgeable about theology and teaches the historical facts regarding Christianity. It's clear that he cares about his students and wants to help them do well.
Awesome professor! I got so much out of Intro to New Testament class. I hope to take another course with him before I graduate.
He is by far my favorite professor at USF. His lectures are extremely interested. He is the type of professor who gets his class to want to do the readings and participate. Take him if you get the chance.
My absolute favorite! You have to respect a professor that's insanely smart, a great teacher, loves what he does and has a great sense of humor. His classes are interesting and fun. Work hard, learn a lot and you'll do well.
Pizzuto is a passionate teacher and he knows his stuff. He keeps class interesting and has a great sense of humor. Make sure to participate in class and make use of office hours. Only one test and one paper.
One of the greatest professors I had at USF. I am very pleased that I had him as a professor.
Professor Pizzuto is a really great classroom teacher. He really knows his stuff and is more than happy to break down concepts, especially if you're not familiar with the Christian faith. I took him Sacred Scripture and Christian Contemplative Practices. He's invested in his students learning and is great in office hours.
I took this class just for an SII core, and found out that Professor Pizzuto gives the most mind-blowing lectures. SO knowledgeable on the subject. Hilarious and charismatic too. He really knows how to get his students interested and engaged. 10/10.
Be ready to put in some serious. A ton of reading and homework for a core class. If he gets the idea that you have no interest in his material he takes it personal.
awesome! Take ANY class from Professor P. He could make sandpaper fascinating. I was absolutely inspired by him.
Lots of reading. Every class we had to read a chapter and/or article with each one averaging about 10 pages. It really doesn't let up until the last 2 weeks of the course so keep that in mind. Random quizzes here and there, a big paper, and a straightforward final. If you want an easy class avoid this one
Came in as a Catholic, left as an Atheist.
Great guy. Cares about you. Going in for extra help really helps the teacher know you care which also helps your grade. It is an insane amount of reading and information and you definitely will not absorb it all, but the tests and papers are extremely doable. Very confusing class, but if you try you're fine. He is very kind and understanding.
Don't take ANY class with Pizzuto unless you can be fake interested in stupid topics. The extra hour of sleep would've been better than attending this class. If you put effort into essays, it means NOTHING unless you're fake + ask questions about things nobody cares about. Literally someone asked if people did drugs in the bible just to participate
Prof. tells you straight up this is a heavy reading course, but also rewarding. He is an excellent teacher and really cares about his students. He facilitates his lectures based off of students questions on the readings. He will challenge your previous religious views & come away empowered & knowledgeable. Participation is necessary for good grade
If you go to class and pay SOME attention, you are basically guaranteed an A in the course. He does not push any faith nor does he question anyone's faith, instead, he gives students tools for analyzing the Bible, and really any writing regardless of topic, in a meaningful way. If you need help, he will work hard to make sure he can give it to you.
Professor Pizzuto really made my semester. He is extremely passionate about his teaching and makes sure that students have every opportunity to ask questions, whether about technical things about the gospels or faith itself. His lectures are extremely entertaining, and I feel as if I learned so much about a topic I had never really known about.
I loved having Professor Pizzuto. His lectures were absolutely amazing and he made me happy to come in every class. When we switched to online classes, the dynamic of it completely changed and it was not the same as it was in person. He definitely makes you work for your grade. A little disappointed how the class ended, but overall, fun class.
At first I enjoyed this class, it is a very introspective class. There is a lot of work, but it is manageable. I'm not going to lie, his book that he makes you buy as a textbook is a tough read. I think that especially since the switch to online classes he would be more caring, but instead he finds it alright to call peoples work "mediocre".
This guy. The amount of reading every week is kinda absurd. There will be tangential information that he considers key. He presents himself as open to questions, but will throw a fit when no one else in the class is able to answer it. Rather than lectures, he wants the class to drive a discussion. Would prefer we teach each other instead.
I really liked Professor Pizzuto and I enjoyed 50% of his lectures. I can tell he is very passionate about his teachings. If you don't have an answer, he takes it very personally. The number of readings is insane and I had zero time to organize other work loads I needed because of the amount of reading. If you have time to read ALOT then take it.
Worst Prof. at USF ever. No idea why his ratings are so high, it tricked me to take his class for theology core. Honestly made my mental health problems worse. He yelled at class for not asking questions, then someone asked a question, and he threw a tantrum and said he's not here to "spoon feed us". Then, ended class and gave us a pop quiz.
First day of class he said "I had a student say to come to class and you'll get an easy A. That's not the case. I failed 7 students last semester and still go to bed with the same amount of sleep. I still get paid the same whether you guys fail or pass." WOW. What a great way to begin the course on the first day!
No. Do not take this prof. if u care about your mental health. He doesn't trust his students. I literally had to get CASA & CAPS involved bc he didn't believe I experienced a life-threatening situation mid-semester and needed time to recover. Also doesn't respond well to emails, in general was rude, and does not teach besides his posted lectures.
Prof. Pizzuto is a good prof. I recommend taking notes of the modules b/c they are short & easy to follow. This class is not hard at all. You get what you put in. Also to address the comment about failing 7 students. He did it b/c they didn't show up to class or participate so, ofc they failed. Tell the whole story next time. People rely on reviews
I took this as a core class (as most other students), but Pizzuto made my entire semester revolve around his class. Each week's module contained an absurd amount of reading that I had a very hard time keeping up with. He takes FOREVER to grade anything (although we only have 3-4 grades total). So glad to be done with this class!!
3 weeks ONLINE, so it was intense. A lot of readings and lectures. 7 modules. Each module: intro video, at least 2 LONG readings, lecture video(s). Content is pretty straightforward. Watched a video of his in-person class and he seems meaner in person. Test: easy analysis of quotes. Paper: how topics developed my understanding of Bible (easy)
He doesn't seem as bad as some of the reviews say. You are to watch the lectures before each topics week. You ask questions in class which goes towards your participation grade. Take good notes and study, the class isn't too hard. You will have to read the Bible. He's passionate but doesn't force it upon you. You dont have to be religious to pass.
He always changes his mind on grading and is never consistent. If you're not on his good side say goodbye to and assignments to make up or anything. He grades his assignments twice as hard as the honors English class I took last semester. He ends up wasting the whole class in a discussion so basically everything you learn is by yourself.
I was reluctant to take Professor Pizzuto's class based on some recent reviews, but having just had him this semester I can straight up tell you I have NO IDEA what they are talking about. Prof Pizzuto is definitely passionate and not at all unreasonable. He cares a lot about his students and was very helpful to me at a difficult time in my life.
This was my second class with Prof Pizzuto and I loved it. I had no idea how much I didn't know about the bible until now. He is so passionate, very helpful during office hours and cares about his students. He deals with a lot of sensitive issues carefully and always responds in a kind way to students who ask questions. I learned so much from him.
Prof. Pizzuto was great, I would definitely take his class again. Super easy, A.
Super easy class! One discussion board per week and a final paper, that's it! Father Pizzuto is not only a wonderful professor but also an amazing person. His lectures changed my life, he's that good!
Read the book and participate in the lectures and you'll get an A. Anyone who says Professor Pizzuto is hard isn't doing the work.
I don't understand his critics, must have been not paying attention. Alot of reading but only one homework assignment each week. He taught us about the Bible and how to apply the teachings to ever day life. 100 would recommend
He turned out to be crazy. I liked him at first but then he became vague and passive aggressive with the whole class. I was one of the better students but was still turned off by his attitude and ego.
A class that requires an absurd amount of patience to retain interest and tolerate an oppressive learning environment. Do not recommend.
Prof Pizuto was one of the most inspiring professors I have had. I had something I was struggling with this and he supported me all semester. He has a lot of compassion and makes times for his students. He does want you to learn but we are in college!
I am just finishing my semester with him and it was a great class. His lectures really make you think and sometimes blow my mind about what I thought the Bible was about. The class is not what I expected but I learned so much! He was very attentive when I needed to meet on office hours. I would def. take him again if my schedule allows.
Professor Pizzuto is the reason I want to minor in theology. If you want to learn a lot he is great. There is a lot of information in the class but he is very fair in how he ultimately grades you. I truly do not recognize the complaints some students have of him. Huh?? He has been great all semester.
Lectures are intense sometimes but always something to learn that was amazing to me. Nothing my pastor ever told us in church. I felt bad more students did not participate because he tries so hard to help students learn. I got covid and he was so helpful to me when I needed it. He is a nice professor.
Professor Pizzuto was awesome. nuff said.
Great class and a passionate professor. I thought the class would be harder than it was but he graded very fairly. I hope to take him again.
every class is a lecture. he covers alot throughout the semester and it can be overwhelming. but the final exam is very easy and only requires you to know the most basic material. three essays, final exam. prof pizzuto responds to emails quickly and willing to answer your questions. readings not required to do but it will help you for the final
Loved the class. Challenging but he grades very fairly.
loved this class! Never knew how little I knew about the Bible.
I liked the class and prof pizzuto made a complicated subject helpful to understand.
He's super passionate about the subject. He assigns manageable readings that contain everything you need to know for the (pretty easy) final (so take good notes!). He always asks for questions during lectures, so not confusing items. I most enjoyed the lectures because he goes on interesting tangents that expanded my understanding of the Bible.
Such a pointless class, attending lectures are required but he has online videos atleast 10yrs old, that he expects you to watch so he uses class time to loosely cover material. a few writing assignments including one 8 page paper needing to reference mult. gospel commentaries. Do not take this class unless you are a DEVOTED christian.
I loved this class. Never knew how much I never knew about the Bible till I took this class. Awesome.
I loved Professor Pizzuto. He wants his students to learn and is very passionate in his lectures. But very fair grader. I have told my roommates to take him for religion credit.
Great Professor
I learned a lot in this class -- not what we thought it would be AT ALL. He cares for his students and really knows his stuff.
I am in this class now. We are all blown away. We love professor Pizutto. It was not at all what I thought it would be.. take this class.
We love Professor Pizzuto! he is so smart and loves teaching this you can tell. he is very fair and helpful when we need help.
Knows a lot about the subject. Kind person. Take if you are interested in knowing the background of Matthew Mark and Luke. Only assignments were 2 papers and final, which he gave studyguide. Will not find out your final grade until the end of the semester. I learned more from the papers we had to write than from his lectures.
Summer online class: Must get the book, 7 worksheets for vocab (easy, just be thorough), 1 final 5-page paper about themes of biblical interpretation and its impact on you (easy), 1 final exam (pick a question and answer it, was open note); he's very approachable, so meet with him if needed; his lectures are very detailed and explains concepts well
Extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the topic. Presents material in an interesting and easy to understand way. Makes the class interesting even for nonreligious people. Also cares a lot about his students and is willing to go out of his way to help students that need it. The two papers are boring, but aren't graded harshly.
Great class...I loved Prof Pizzuto He was very helpful to me outside class when I need assistance.
Pizzuto is such a good professor to take if you're looking to satisfy your theology core. Class is 99% lecture but as a non-religious person, the topics are genuinely interesting. Final is 1 essay question out of 6, he lets you study them all prior. Two other application essays, but short. He got me to pick up a theology minor. He's that good lol.
If you're going to sit down quietly and not raise your hand, your grade will suffer. Conversely, if you participate and get on his good side you won't have to worry about your grade as much. However, just for a core theology course I feel like this isn't worth taking, as its too much work and the lectures are mind numbingly boring.
