Totally awesome class, the man's Italian with an accent, but otherwise totally cool
I love this class... it's one of the few classes where I feel like i learn the entire class period. It's a lot on information, but if you're there and you listen, it's an easy class to pass =)
Great Teacher. Loads you with information, but testing is very fair. All take-home essays. His teaching style frustrating at first, but there is a method to his madness. He will probably be the most intelligent professor you have. very helpful as well. In wish he was teaching other classes.
Teaches a lot from day one. Full of information and really funny if you pay attention. Take notes and pay more attention to him than the book. gives you tests ahead of time so you can go over them before you take it. Likes participation, so if you answer and ask questions he notices and grade accordingly. Would take again if taught another course!
Good teacher. Definately knows his stuff. Talks extremely fast, but the tests are either take home (in which case utilize google) or he gives you the questions in advance (again, utilize google or just pay attention to the key topics). So don't stress out about taking obsessive notes. just sit back and enjoy the wealth of information.
great teacher and very helpful
Amazing!Very passionate and knowledgable.Loved his class, but don't worry about taking too many notes. Just listen. I learned more from him than any other professor. He's kinda cute too.
Very Hard to understand. Also he is quite boring compared to the other teachers that I have had. Not all that hard of a class but he is very strict on absences. I will not be taking one of his classes again. Just not enough action for me. He just stands in front of the pedestal and rambles on with out really diving into the meat of the subject.
i was totally confused until the near end of the semester. he will be flipping back and forth, through the book for the entire class period.
Wonderful teacher, alot of information....interesting....gives you alot of extra credit, but you also have to study alot alot and alot......
Very confusing because of his accent but a very good teacher. If you go to his website he has the test questions ahead of time for you. Don't worry about taking a lot of notes, just try to enjoy what he is talking about (he knows a lot) and join in the conversation ( he loves that) and Say good things about Italy!!!!!
this man is amazing. i absolutly loved his class. he lives initaly so he knows his european culture. he will help you, as long as you are nice. ask questions and he will gladly answer. i learned SO much from this class
I LOVED this class! He is very passionate and full of knowledge so just listen and take notes. Pay attention because he likes to banter with students, but that is how you learn. Always available for help. Easy, but you HAVE to read the material! Be prepared and don't miss class. This has been my favorite class by far and I was sad when it was over.
this class was great! mr. piazza is an excellent teacher. extremely helpful and one of my new favorite instructors
AMAZING CLASS!!!! If you are looking to learn something take this class. He has such vast knowledge and passion for his subject matter. Never a dull moment. To do well you have to read the material!! If you read the book and participate in class it will be a totally rewarding experience. Class just ended previous notions from just after mid-term.. Take this class only if you have a mind.. fence posts and people who are too stupid to live do not belong in this class nuff said!!!!
Lots of material covered. I will be honest I did not like him in the beginning but he grows on you. If you study a little each day you will do fine. He will not let you fail extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. Worth the time and effort. Nice guy just a little stressful until you get a hang of it. I would take him for more clases. Amazing..
He is one of the best instructors I have every had. You must read the book. He is very passionate about the subject. At first he is a little hard to keep up with. But you will enjoy the course so much more if you read the assignments prior to class. Fantastic instructor!
As with Humanities, you must read the text. It's not about memorization, but the whole picture. I love Dr. Piazza's classes as he is very passionate about the subjects he teaches. He is always available if you need help. Just attend class and be prepared to participate.Tests are a little challenging but you HAVE to read! Very sweet man.
Very interesting class that covers the origin of civilization through the Arts. I wish we ciould study more art than history, but they go hand in hand. Essays at home and multi-answer questions test in class. Easy enough to pass.
Earned a B, he posted a C.. not sure what thats about. Emailed him, he did not email back..guess I am stuck with this C. Otherwise, he is a great Professor and VERY passionate about this subject.
horrible teacher
Really dreaded this class. He talked too fast and it was hard enough understanding him. I did ask for help and he did help so kudos for that. He required great outspokenness which I did not have and so he gave me a B because I didn't speak up. so SPEAK UP. Papers are ok, can get difficult. Exams sucked, pretty hard but could get by w/ C's on them.
He accused me of cheating infront of the whole class. He was supposed to send me homework I missed but he emails me the midterm. I go to turn it in and he says to give it to him after the test. Giving test back and says I cheated infront of whole class. Starts giving me the exam orally infront of people. no apology. cant understand him and rude.
One of my favorite professors. His exams are fairly difficult but its possible to pass them. With each exam you get questions to answer. Loved his class
tests are crazy, not sure how to take effective notes in his class, uses book a lot but answers are not easily found a lot of the time in there, if you wrote his lectures into a book you would get 100%, doesnt have a bad accent until he uses it on purpose which is confusing. PAY ATTENTION
HE WAS AN EASY AND OUTGOING PROFESSOR. YOU'LL LIKE HIS CLASS AND ENJOY TAKING IT WITH HIM. WHEN DONT UNDERSTAND THE READING DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR QUESTIONS. HE WONT EMBARASS YOU. HE IS VERY HELPFUL. ALSO WRITE NOTES NOTES NOTES ALL DURING HIS LECTURE BECAUSE YOU WILL USE THEM SOMETIMES DURING HIS EXAMS.
Prof. Piazza is an awesome teacher! Yes, the tests are a bit difficult but he gives plenty of extra credit. Take him!
Piazza is outgoing, friendly and helpful.People he is not difficult this class is interesting all you need to do is put effort and time so this class can be easy.He is very helpful and makes you understand the material.Get the book it is necessary and write lots of notes.I loved Humanities and would take humanities 2 with professor piazza again.
Super funny guy. His tests are kind of crazy though. If you don't like the subject then you aren't going to enjoy the tests. He is really outgoing and knows a lot.
Great teacher, super helpful. Definitely knows the material. This is a great class and I learned a lot. I would definitely take HUM2 with him if I had the space in my schedule! Take my advice and take Humanities from Piazza! If you show up and do the work, you will get a good grade.
Very friendly. Good classes, Very enjoyable and interesting. Tests are not that bad but you have to put a little effort in doing the homework and reading the material. Very helpful and have a positive attitude towards all students. Will definitely take more classes with him.
Mr. Piazza is very well educated and diverse in his knowledge of material used in class. Class participation and a little studing will get you a good grade. Teacher is easy-going and personable.
I'm never really sure what to write down during his lectures, because he doesn't have any visuals like a PowerPoint. He really knows what he's talking about though and I would suggest reading the chapter before the online exams because they are super long and oftentimes hard.
Mr.Piazza was a great professor. He really knows his stuff. It wasn't an easy class, you have to study and do your part. He's around when you need help. He also has a great sense of humor. If you want a class where you'll LEARN something, then Piazza is the guy. Overall, great professor.
Wish I had time to take his other class good professor it's nice to get a teacher who enjoys hIs subject
Excellent & Educated! Professor Piazza is extremely familiar with the material and provides extensive notes which cover every detail of the course information. I hardly utilized the textbook because of the information he provided. He allows for the ability to take your exams twice, provided you score at least 50% on the first attempt. A+ Professor!
He is a great professor. His lectures are interesting and he is quite funny. He knows the material very well and is organized. He will help you out if you need it . His tests are very hard, but you get two chances so you can improve your grade.
I have never met a professor with such passion for the subject heshe teaches. Professor Piazza is absolutely amazing! He is a great teacher with an amazing spirit. He is always willing to help you and make sure you understand the material. His tests do require class attendance because he will sneak in some questions from his lecture.
I am taking his course right now and by far he is absolutely the best teacher I have ever had. Passionate lectures, insists student discussion and involvement and respects individual opinions. Extremely thorough and also a great sense of humor. I do not have to take another humanities course but I believe next semester I will take another of his
Piazza is a passionate instructor. Knows his subject well, lectures are animated and kept my attention. Lots of essays, but only 300 words and grades with a lot of latitude. Tests are really hard, but you get 2 tries. Was a great semester. Would definitely take him again. Expects participation. Gives extra credit.
He was wonderul. His assignments were very easy. Even though the testexams were 100 questions. If you needed help he would respond within a day. His grading is pro-student. It is very hard to fail his class. Put effort into it and you will pass.
He's very knowledgeable and knows what he's talking about, unfortunately expects it out of his students in just a couple of days. His tests are 100 questions (he waits every chapter) and the quizzes are okay, just a lot of memorization needed. My suggestion: STUDY! And pay attention! He's a good instructor, just the class itself is very difficult.
Although the lectures are long he makes the class very interesting and he's very funny! You can tell he is passionate by what he does. It's a lot to learn in just one chapter and my best recommendation would be to take him in class, because he gives a bit more clarity as to what you are learning. Tests are tough, so study. Study hard.
Piazza is an amazing professor! You can tell he truly loves the subject he's teaching, and he works with the students to help them as much as he can. He does keep attendance, but he's a funny guy so his lectures are interesting. Study for the tests! He generally mentions things that will be on the in-class quiz so pay attention to that.
It wasn't the easiest class to pass but he is very passionate about this subject which makes for very long lectures, i don't think i would take this again if i and the choice but if you like this subject than you will enjoy it.
Love his passion towards his work, just not his way of grading. Honestly, I myself and most students would agree that the tests are so long we just got tired of taking it, submitted it and accepted the C grade letter that most of us received. It's a lot of knowledge to be digested in a short period of time. good luck, you're going to need it!
Piazza is a great dude. You'll leave each class with a lesson in Humanities and Italian profanity. All assignments are online and have multiple attempts so it's impossible to fail. Lectures are long, but very clear and engaged. Very passionate for his work. Bring your book and have a good historical knowledge base, makes things much more enjoyable.
Dr. Piazza is awesome!! I really enjoyed his class and learned a lot! He is Italian so be prepared for a cultured guy from Rome ( 30 years he lived there) who also curses in Italian occasionally. His class does require work - you've got to be in class. He gives "lecture notes" that basically cover everything he says in class. If you care, you pass.
Professor Piazza is the easiest college class that I have ever taken. He is very clear of what he expects from you, his lectures are long but if you print out his lecture notes you will not fail. He is not real hard when it comes to grading pretty laid back and easy to please. When you leave his class you will know all the bad words in Spanish lol
Through an entire semester there are 5 major exams. Each 100 questions. Reading his online lecture notes are crucial to passing this class. Homework and exams are very long.
I usually don't rate teachers- but I felt other students should be warned. I have always been a straight A student, have taken multiple hard college courses, but this class was by far the worst experience I have ever had- not to mention the HARDEST thing I've ever done. There were a few days I spent 10 hrs testing w no break. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!
If you cherish your free time, DO NOT take him. This class was ridiculously hard.
Dropped this class after 2 weeks and what felt like a thousand hours. I took it online. He's gives you a ridiculous amount of work like he thinks it's the only class your taking. Even if I was taking just this class I was taking I would have still dropped. It is extremely interesting and he is clearly knowledgable. It is just not worth it.
I would only suggest taking this class if it's something you are truly passionate about. I honesty think he must have made all these positive comments on his own. I am an A+ student and would never take him again. That amount of work is ridiculous. Take a different teacher before you regret it.
Professor Piazza is one of the best professors I had at DSC. History requires some reading time. Read the chapter before coming to class, you will have much better understanding of what he lectures about. I am a senior at UCF right now and I am thankful for all the knowledge he shared. Just put a little effort and I promise it works for an easy A.
This is an interesting class, BUT the amount of work required is ridiculous. The 4 online tests take 2-3hrs each. You have 8, 300+ wrd essays, 4 vocab/art tests & 2 reading comp tests. He expects you in class every day & to participate, REALLY participate and to have prev. knowledge of the subject matter. I wouldn't take him for anything again.
Dr. Piazza is an excellent professor!!! He is passionate about what he teaches making you want to see it through his eyes and learn. Of course you have homework and papers non are difficult, but are in place to show an understanding of material. Not hard to write a paragraph on what you had just read. Even if your wrong he will give you some credit
Dr. Piazza is amazing! He has opened up my eyes and taught me history. Which I do not like to learn about. His passion for his field is contagious and his knowledge is beyond anything I expected. The class is not a cake walk, but you are able to get an A easy. Lots of extra credit opportunities and he cares about his students and will work with you
AVOID
Attendance matters, I think you can only miss up to four classes, however all you do in the class is listen to him talk for however long you have him. Very funny guy, really cool, just a lot of things to remember, make sure you take the class with friends who can do the tests with you, if not they're long and hard. Idk if I could've done it alone
I loved this class. I took the 6 wk online version. I recommend this professor highly. 8 essays, final project, 11 discussion questions - (Do not forget to do all of your discussion questions like I did.... it's 30% of grade)..... I got As in all of my essays and exams and other work but missed several discussions and it really affects your grade.
He is one of the best professors I have ever had. His lectures are interesting. Tests are heavy, but I got an A for this course.
The class wasn't THAT bad, but between all of the tests/essays it can get exhausting. He assigns you three tests for units 1/2, two tests for units 3/4. Then you must do two essays per unit. He's very passionate about what he teaches, though. Really knows his stuff. I just think the class was super exhausting and a lot of work. 100 question tests.
Professor Piazza is funny and kind. He is passionate about what he teaches. Although his tests can be somewhat rigorous, they are extremely interesting. His class was super interesting and fun. He is big on critical thinking. Overall, he is a wonderful person and I would definitely take his class again for fun!
He was a great professor and most of his lectures are interesting. If you go to class and actually pay attention the test won't be that hard, but they are very long. The 4 essays are super easy and he gives you great feed back. If you study the vocab the vocab hw will be easy!
This course was pretty low stress for me, all the homework for the course is 8 300-word essays, and 2-3 tests. The exams are 100 questions and take a while to finish, but I was able to finish the units in 1-3 days each. Allowed us to substitute some essays with art pieces. Didn't use the textbook myself.
Professor Piazza was a pretty good professor. He's extremely funny in lectures and all around a nice guy. There is lots of work for each unit however. 4 units total. Each unit has two papers, a 100 question online exam, and a written exam with vocab and artwork. My best advice is to find people in class and organize a big study group. It helps.
Never gives 100% on anything. Tests are set up to trick you or don't make sense because the questions are very vague. Most demanding and tedious class/professor I've taken in 4 semesters at DSC. He is very passionate about the subject, but fails to realize that students are required to take these class, not because they want or care to.
He is a pretty nice guy overall but his class is VERY lecture heavy. I feel like he does not respect others time because his lectures always go over time and it makes you late for other classes/work. His test are intense 100 questions for 1, 16-20 questions for another and in class visual test. I think he does forget most are made to be for credit.
He was unorganized with his lectures. He just rambles on and on, so trying to take notes is a waste of time. He doesn't tell you what is going to be on the exams, so you are left trying to figure out what to study. He would also keep us after class was already over, so everyone was always late going to their next class/work.
the class wasnt much interest to me so thats probably why i had a hard time but very lecture heavy and a bulk of assignments every after every lecture series
DO NOT take his class regardless of the type of student you are. If you're the lazy type that doesn't like to read and do constant work every week, YOU WILL fail or get a very low grade. If you are the type of student that puts all of your effort towards classes and gets A's in every class YOU WILL get a mid- high B. His class will ruin your GPA.
English is my second language. I took his class and got an A. Tests are heavy, but you can print out his lectures. All his tests are from his lectures. Overall, I enjoyed his class. He loves to teach and offers himself to his students.
I am taking a summer course in humanities, i've never had So much work due over two days. Why in the world would you only let us take the exams and submit homework over two days?? Each exam is 100 questions, so thats about 4 hours of just exam in one day, plus an essay, PLUS discussions? Way too much work, exam questions are terrible.
This class was one of the most overly complicated classes I have ever taken. Online and over the summer I do not recommend at all. He gives you 5 essays fr a 5 week programs and a 4 hour test each week along with 11 painstakingly complex discussions. Do not take his class unless you want to spend every moment catching up. He also never gives a 100%
You listen to lectures all class and then are required to write essays and take test that aren't all online. It was very difficult and if you want to pass you really have to pay attention and know the content.
this class is very very advanced and needed for a medical major for no reason. His content is very hard and what you learn isn't on the 100 exams. Hes a nice guy but the class is hard and since he writes his own text book the answers are nowhere to be found. This is my second time taking this class with the thanks of course hero
Overload of assignments in which you are only given a three to four day slot to complete. Prepare to write an overwhelming amount of essays, mini essays, and set aside 4-6 hours for exams and quizzes alone. The course is difficult to navigate, nor are you certain when actual due dates are for certain assignments. The information is conflicting.
Worst professor I have ever had. He just rambles on making it very hard to stay awake. Assignments are turned in through TurnItIn and he doesnt check the errors that TurnItIn makes. I got plagiarized for using my own name in the heading and he left my essay a zero. Highly recommend any professor but him.
Imagine taking this to fill out the Hum credit and thinking oh it won't be so bad and it turns out to be that bad, yeah that's his class. lectures are long winded and sometimes hard to understand because of the italian accent. Tests are not just one multiple choice they involve a visual section, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU THINK IT' AN EASY A!!!!
Prof. Piazza is renown for his face-to-face courses, highly reputable, and great knowledge. However, his online course HUM2020 is very accessible, and his presence is literally constant, every day. Responds to emails at times in a few minutes, feedback and grading are prompt, and he even calls you on the cell if you have missed course work.
Prof Piazza is easily the best Prof at DSC and probably the best anywhere. His online course is very interesting but after I met him in his office hours I wish I could take his class in person. His knowledge of history is amazing and his lectures are the most entertaining I've ever heard. friendly an helpful with any concern. Fair grader.
Best Professor you'll ever take for this subject. Coursework is fun and Professor is entertaining and presents the coursework in a brilliant way. If you study and do all assignments you should get an A. Very worthwhile class
Vince is a very kind-hearted person but an average professor, he knows his tests/etc is very hard and he give small/no material-why he gives A LOT of extra credit. I have a study buddy who got me through the 40-70 question exams, helped a lot. He also speaks Italian so hard to understand in class(I zoned out) do online w/him. Think outside the box!
The hardest class I've ever taken for no reason. Only opens assignments from Friday to Sunday, dumbest thing I've ever experienced for the amount of work he gives. He must forget that this is a required class, and not everyone is passionate about the arts like he is. Good pals with Dr. Whitaker who teaches Cultural Geo which is also difficult.
Great class! He teaches face-to-face, despite the pandemic. Very knowledgeable, and his themes are interesting for all sections of the arts and history. Participate, he asks questions in class, you'll get points. He gives you three days to complete your assignments and exams, and will work with you if you need other due dates, he's very helpful.
The professor is great! I read people complaining about it being lecture heavy, which is true, however he defiantly allows you to engage and debate in the class. I could see it being boring if the class isn't engaging or asking questions. You do learn a lot in his class. I got As on the test simply by listening in class and taking notes. Not hard.
He piles two-three weeks worth of essays, exams, and quizzes into something that you cant start or even view until a few days before its due. People have lives, families, jobs, and other classes the way he structures when assignments become available is ridiculous. Take someone else, anyone else!
So. much. work. if you want 85 question tests along w a 21 question reading composition and homework essays. this is ur guy! great person, not so much lenient on the work load.
The online class is very messy and has an unnecessary amount of work, more so than any other course I have taken. Additionally, the due dates and what we should be doing that week is very unclear, and he just throws a lot of readings, discussions, and painfully long writings at you.
Very difficult to pay attention to his lectures. He switches between talking in English and Italian, and rambles a lot. Inserted his own opinions into the lectures. If there's a question on his test with three right answers, and you get two right, the whole question is marked wrong instead of partial credit. Would definitely not recommend taking.
