She is not a great teacher. Doesn't like to answer any questions on test day or even want to discuss anything after test! She gets weird on test days like she has her fists up.

I finnished this class 2 days aga and it was a nightmare I wish i would have never taken this class with her, she is a BAD TEACHER. BEWARE KEEP LOOKING FOR ANOTHER TEACHER, THIS ONE WILL DISSAPOINT YOU.
I took the online class, and thought I followed all of the instructions, but I would get a low grade and a note from her saying I didn't follow the instructions. Not clear. And tests were very hard.
OH MY,she has an accent,which doesn't help.she requires a VERY DETAIL 6-10PAGE reserch paper,checks every source used student's that pass are very low.test are very hard and tricky.she doesn't use everyday words on test. refuses to come down to a students level. DO NOT TAKE HER EVEN IF IT'S THE ONLY TIME SLOT YOU HAVE OPEN. YOU WILL REGET IT.
Her lectures were easy to understand. She was very fair. Her tests are almost entirely based up on lectures, and tricky in questioning! But I understood more about govt after taking this course.

She is fair, very knowledgeable on the subject matter, gives students ample opportunity to improve their grades. Lectures are clear and interesting, instructions are clear. Would recommend to anyone who wants to understand more about how govt works. You will have to work for the grade you receive. Excellent teacher!
She has an attitude problem. If you disagree with her over her tests, she'll defend herself even if it's blatantly wrong. Her lectures skip from one topic to the other. Her tests are difficult, but if you take good notes and read the book, you have a decent chance at getting an A or B. She is not very helpful. I would not recommend her.
Excellent professor for students who want to LEARN about government. You have to work for your grade. She is clear about what's expected. Slackers looking for an easy "A", or who want to be pampered don't like her, as you can see from the postings here. If you can't handle Dr. Harris, you aren't ready for a 4 year university!

I really enjoyed her teaching. Not the ideal teacher for those looking for an easy exit. Even though I ended up with a B in both section of the course, I still stand out for her. PS: I am a non-english speaker student.

it's a hard subject.she is very happy to explain anything.yes,you have to make an effort-sometimes a LOT of effort.but the state says we have to learn this subject, and so work on it. she is very intelligent, and very nice.there may be easier teachers,but if your memory and understanding are good,take her-she respects her students.

Very Hard Syllabus! tests, quizzes, 3 short papers, a major paper (8 pages min. + 6 references), a midterm and final. would not recommend at all
She is the worst professor i've in recent time. I took her online course and it was just too horrible. She overworked us and offered little or no assistance. She just pushed all the work to us an never explained anything and would not return emails. She seemed like an angry person, you get a little reward for all the work.
I took Harris' online course. I was surprised by how much trouble I had, as I enjoy Government. The instructions she provides are not clear. She forgot to assign me to a group at one point, but tried to shift the blame to me, saying I should have noticed sooner. I never received feedback on papers or essay questions.
V. Harris is a great teacher, study the class, and come wanting to learn and you will do well. She is highly educated and will encourage you to do well. This class has been one of my favorites. Take notes during the lecture--she focuses on topics not on questions , exams are usually less than 50 question with 2-3 short answers so know your stuff.
Avoid online class like the plague. You get very little feedback on anything, she grades rather harshly as well. You do learn the material if you read the book. However, you can spare yourself the aggravation and just buy the texts and read them and skip this class. You learn just as much.

Professor Harris is not a good instructor. She is very rude and not very helpful when you have questions. Most of us that are in this class are all having the same problem . She yells at people using all capital letters when answering their concerns. She is very hard and offers little help. Never never take this class from her.
Avoid like the plague. You get the sense from the online class that she's really impressed with herself. As far as being intelligent, educated, and knowing the material...please. It's an intro to government class. I knew most of what we "learned" before the class even began. Grading is capricious. I still got an A but it wasn't worth the headache.
Prof.Harris was a rude,inconsiderate person.I never knew taking a Gov class would be such a headache.I failed the class because I got so discourage that I basically stop doing the work.I would try to avoid taking this woman she is a nutcase and needs to understand that she works at a community college not a university.

She is not there for the student. At several occasions, I thought her goal is for everybody to fail. It's a terrible situation. Even when you assume she taught well, her exams are out of range. She has no charisma, and does little to guide students to the task, GRRRRRR. Horrible! I had to keep my cool all the time.
Do not take this class. Period. I would not recommend this class to my enemies.
Online course. No matter how much I studied, and there were 3 textbooks, the best I could do was a C. 4 papers total write one being-major writing assign 8 PGS (plus critiquing a min. of 4 peers each week!)I am typically an A student. This is a class to do by itself. I don't believe the teacher to be a bad one, just ALOT of work.
Avoid her courses at all cost! She is a horrible professor with the standards of a graduate level or ivy league course. She is very unclear in her expectations for assignments, and subtracts points for things that you had no idea you were supposed to do. She also doesn't tell you that her exams have essays. DO NOT TAKE HER! GET OUT IF YOU CAN! NOW!
I dropped this teacher like a hot potato once I read the syllabus. Crazy work load: 4 tests plus a final, five quizzes, one 8 page paper, three 2 page papers, 7 required responses to teacher and student discussion forums. Insane! I lost 30% of the tuition for dropping on the second day but it's the best $60 I've spent to avoid that aggravation.

Avoid this instructor at all costs. Inconsistent and ignorant of her own standards. Agree with previous statement that grading is arbitrary & capricious. Had to notify her after several e-mail exchanges that I was keeping a record in case she failed me and I had to appeal as per the student handbook. Avoid this instructor at all costs.

I would not recommend her class. Way to much work, rude attitude, and she takes off alot of points for minor mistakes. Extra credit is only 5 points.If you think she's hard, take her online.
This is a good Professor.I took the class online.You have to study,you have to be prepared. When you are given a criticism, you have to use it to make yourself better. I had surgery and worked a 40 +hrs/week during the semester. Im happy. Do not expect to be have your hand held through this class- its not going to happen.Thats not life.
She thinks making things hard is the same as good, but if your students are frustated and not learning...it is not good. Teaching is about helping open minds expand, and not blocking them or limiting them.
This lady doesn't have people skills at ALL!... I took an online class with her and part of her greatings to the class was DO NOT EMIAL with question regarding your syllabus!? This teacher made tests very wordy poorly making it difficult to answer. There were multiple answers in all her tests that were so close to being right, however were incorrect. Took this class as a 5 week summer session. Material is ok, lots to cover quickly, MUST be able to read quickly and well to survive this course. The prof is a disaster: arrogant, uncommunicative, rude...take GOVT2301 from ANYONE but Harris. I did this online, I can only imagine how bad she must be in class!

She is a very hard online Professor. I withdrew from her class because I did not want a "D" or "F" on my transcript. I will retake GOVT 2302 but with another online Professor who will interact with their students.

hated this class, she gave all the work of a regular semester in a mini-mester, she thinks everything is self explanatory, makes you write an 8 page minimum paper. and her tests suck. if you can get some one else do that. You can fail if you dont put in alot of effort
Find a better teacher if you care about your grade. She gives boring lectures that don't help you at all. The tests are multiple choice and pick on small details from the textbook. Aside from quizzes and tests, there are 2 short papers and one major paper (8 pgs) and discussions online.

I took this class online. For HCC I expected a lot less work. The workload is annoying but doable, I probably spent about 2-3 hours a week on this class. I dislike the prof just because the assignments given were kind of pointless, and I didn't learn anything new.

Class was horrible. Very rude proffesor. There was no guideline or outline to go by to learn the material. Even online/distant education courses are supposed to have structure. You can't know what to study with 5 chapters on the test if there is nothing to go by. That is too much material and no on can learn like that.

If you're looking for a professor who gives very difficult incomprehensible assignments, does not respond to requests for help in a timely manner (read before the assignment is due) and then grades them harshly for not understanding them. This is your perfect class. If not: find another class. I wish I had. Student beware.
I took an online class with her. She is not super hard, she lays out from the beginning all the work for the semester and when it is due. I passed with an C. I usually get all A's. She is not the best at explaining things and her grading is harsh, but overall if you do your work, study and READ, READ, READ, you should pass.

Very bad teacher, she said on a class online that the tests are on a tentative date, meaning not set exactly, but this poor excuse for a teacher shut down the first test almost immediately after 11:59. At least know I know how lame she is as it was only the first test.
This class was very straight forward, read and you will be fine. If you attempt to cram for the test your grade will reflect it. I flubbed my written assignment because I did not read it correctly but I still believe she graded the content so that helped. The people who failed did not read her syllabus.

She is not bad. But (in my opinion): 1. Don't expect an easy A or B 2. Do need to read the textbook 3. It's true that she doesn't like to communicate... but she still answers your questions 4. A little confusing sometimes 5. A fair/hard grader 6. I didn't learn much from her, but I honestly didn't put much effort.

I took Professor Harris online and got a good passing grade. Its mainly reading on your own and discussions make up 20% of your grade. If she see's you trying she will look out for you. Make time to read because everything is in the book. If you dont apply your reading you will fail. Shes a very nice lady and likes you to take initiative.
I am an A or B student, and I failed the first test. I studied all of her notes for hours. After the test I realized that there was another part of the course that was NO WHERE explained in the syllabus. Basically, she is very unclear, and it is difficult to pass.
Her class is boring, I feel teaching is not really her call, cause she hardly flows with the student when explaining, she give extra credit but no reviews non at all... I chose this class in a haste and it will never happen again!
I took this professor at the beginning of my time at HCC. My grade was about 45% the day before the date of record. I dropped this class, and it is the only class I dropped in my entire time at HCC. For reference, I graduated with a 3.825 GPA and got an A in 2305 and 2306 from another professor. Do yourself and your GPA a favor and look elsewhere.
Too much tough grader, no extra credit, only grades you based on 4 tests and discussion. Very hard to pass.
Do not take this class. She is so hard. I took her class online. She gave 4 test online that was all hard to pass, even when studying. I ended with a D in her class. Barely passing.
Dont take this class. The most annoying thing about her is the fact that she closes her discussions, and claims she doesnt know how to reopen them (Any prof at HCC will tell you how to reopen them, you simply change the date)

Took this class online. The professor came in late every class and took her time to put up things on projector. She went over the syllabus TOO often. Also get ready to read on your own she uses an app where you do all the reading and test taking. What is taught in class does not show up on the tests. Not a very good instructor over all.
I took her hybrid class and the things we discussed in class were in no way related to the things that were on the tests. When our class brought it up she said that the system determines the test, not her. At the end of the semester, she assigned a pop group project (yes, group project). 4/10 do not recommend.
Extremely terrible professor, shes probably in hcc to give out bad grades. I got a 94% on the 4 exams and she gave me a 40% on my discussions which led me to an F. She does not help out students nor care for them. Stay away from her, she will only lead you to failure!!
I warn you, DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS PROFESSOR! She lacks any form or inkling of what it means to be an educator. She lectures only, by way of just reading from the textbook only. Provides little information or help on could possibly be important out of all the text. Spends more time trying to correct students on using phones.
The last to be picked and for MANY reasons. She doesn't grade as you go, so there's no telling if you're actually doing well or not. I messaged her about this and pray she doesn't penalize me for it. 8-week class is easy, but by the last week, you still won't have the majority of your grades posted. I currently have an A, only from the tests.
So I took her last semester Spring 2018 1st 8 weeks and she dropped my grade from an A to a C because of formatting. The assignments didn't have where you can post the file yet she wanted you to copy and paste your essay in the text box and expect it to format correctly. DO NOT TAKE! DO NOT TAKE! DO NOT TAKE! DO NOT TAKE! DO NOT TAKE!
Asked her in the middle of my online course for feedback for the discussions and she told me to read the instructions. Passed most of the tests with a B or higher. But she gave me a 35/50 on the discussions. If youre wanting to learn, dont take this course.
Run. Find another professor. The problem is that she probably has read these ratings and blames the students instead of introspecting. Run. Save your time and money.

RUN FAST! You can have an A in her class and then she will grade you unfairly for discussions then boom you have a C. Every student except for one had same issue with discussion being the deciding factor and most graded for final grade. Shes rude and unfair, and doesnt like to talk to you. RUN!
Here we have a professor doing this for the paycheck and nothing else and at the cost of having a good class. There is nothing in this course that involves the professor until the end, where they grade 5 short discussion questions, and when they are graded, absolutely no feedback is given.
Do not take this class with this professor she doesnt give you heads up about how you doing in class. Please do not take this class with her.

This professor is very strict and rarely deviates from her syllabus. The biggest problem is the graded discussion, due the fact she presented rules that weren't in the syllabus and when the assignment was due at the end of the course, she then gave out all the instructions with extra details. Avoid this professor if u can!
pass on this instructor. if u question her about your grade on an assignment you will be ignored. if you take your gpa serious this isnt the class for you. isnt content most important overall. or is it you dont care if we learn the actual material as long as we follow your petty UNCLEAR instructions. if you care abt your gpa, and LEARNING, run!!

Shes not that bad, shes reasonable. She uses Connect ALOT. For the wnter mini, we had reading questions + assignment (both with unlimited attempts) and a quiz, per each of the 12 chapters. Had to use quizlet ALOT to study for exams, the exams had very specific and difficult questions and were also powered by connect. She doesnt require lockdown
She is the WORST at this class. So specific about what is required and it is the dumbest thing. She is not understanding. Her grading scale is ridiculous. She definitely makes it hard for you to pass the class. I would never take her class again.
By the way, if you take this professor for government, then she will make you feel stupid in her class, claiming that she have failed her assignments probably through discussions. Please be wary that this professor in the government department is also very strict! Even if she's your last option left to enroll for government, don't just take her.

You can't take this professor for government for any reason as complained by several students who taken and rated her, especially if you waited until the last minute to pick your classes at HCC. She will make you feel stupid for a low grade you get from this professor, probably from discussions, which an A is very hard to get for your final grade.
Winter mini was fast paced but I dont have anything really negative to say about her. She was respectful in the messages. FOLLOW HER FORMATTING RULES on discussions, theyre graded HARD. Most assignments are on Connect which SUCKS, with very specific and difficult questions on exams, but studying on quizlet helped me get an A
She's nice, but she grades very hard than what you think if you take government with her. Her classes are not easy A for the mean grades on discussions, but follow the right format and you SHOULD be able to get a high grade on that. If you didn't get it, try to email her for clarification. Try to be nearly perfect 4 an A, or her class isn't 4 you.
if anyone thinking about taking her at you better run the other way she haves no empathy nor she wouldn't give me the accommodation for my disability when i sent her the letter btw she gave me a zero discussion grade overall some she gave me a 0 on and the others she didn't grade so I failed overall grade in her class because of that.
Do what you're supposed to on what she expects, particularly for the hardest in discussions, and you should be fine for a high grade! If you're planning on receiving an A, if you're going to take her class, then you will have to be nearly perfect for it. No mercy for low grades! If she give you a grade that you don't want then she is not the choice
You should stay away from this professor because she is a very tough grader on discussions! The worst professor in the government department at HCC than you think. I don't recommend you take her for GOVT at HCC if you want a grade better than a C, take different prof. Review her rating before you take this prof! NO MERCY FOR LOW GRADES FROM HER!!
Very straight-forward course and she makes her expectations clear from the beginning. Course is broken down into 4 modules-- each with 1 exam, 1 discussion, and chapter quiz/hw assignments. Exams can be tricky but appropriate to material. Discussions are not difficult-- those who do not receive full credit likely did not follow instructions.
Yeah just make sure you pick someone else, she's pretty awful. The type of person that would very clearly rather be doing something else. When I asked for some constructive criticism about the discussions (which are 32% of her grade) she just copy and pasted the syllabus to me. Like why are you here professor Harris?
she provided us with several Modules with assignments of 18 to 20 tests and quizzes per module. You had two weeks to compete. This didn't include written discussions and a three-minute video. I dropped her class because of frequent headaches and neck pain from the stress. It was hard to retain the information due to the workload.
She is very rude when responding back to emails about questions! She does not clarify anything and grades discussion post like essays! Do not take this class online if you want to keep a good gpa!
She is very straight foward with her expectations and grading criteria. The only way to score a low grade is if you don't try or if you don't follow the clear expectations in the syllabus, so not sure where all these negative comments are coming from. She also discusses current issues going on in our goverment so her class was never boring.
she is a tough grader in discussion as if it was an english class, a lot of homework quizzes and tests. does not accept late work. I would not recommend taking her class
Just making life hard for a required course. Worsing your GPA. don't read the discussions just cheks grammar. Absolute waste of time and energy. I accidently took this cours with this prof. hope HCC will fire her
I found her class to be OK. Not easy but not too hard either. She has some...unique rules regarding discussions, as long as I followed it she graded it fairly. I hated all the hw on connect software, cant even easily copy and paste the questions so it is hard to get any help with studying. She was responsive and nice to me in emails.
Professor Harris is a great professor in my opinion, I don't know why people rate her poorly. The information is in the syllabus and the introduction module, so ready all of it CAREFULLY, do the introduction stuff FIRST. Beyond that, very clear grading criteria, direct and kind, and the assignments are fairly easy as long as you read the textbook.
Don't believe the ratings! My only choice was Dr. Harris's winter mini session (5-wks) class even after reading the ratings. Pretty easy class if you make the time to do your work. Her instructions are very clear and detailed. There were 4 exams, 4 discussions (2 paragraphs of 6-9 sentences), and 4 module assignments/quizzes (4-5 ch covered).
Terrible professor. Dropped my grade by 20 points over a discussion post missing a single line break. Do not take this class, we had multiple students filing formal complaints against her due to her unpredictable, tough grading. Does not respond to messages outside of "read the instructions", which are vague in itself. Save your gpa, don't take her
I don't understand the extreme low rating. The class has a lot of work but its not difficult work to complete. There are 4 exams total, each timed. For her discussion posts, her instructions are clear. Follow the rules exactly and you'll get a 100 everytime. The textbook itself also isnt difficult, but it is through Mcgraw Hill.
I don't believe this professor deserves such a low rating. Her class was very clear for what she was grading on, had plenty of extra credit, and never felt like I was being cheated out of a grade. Take the time to write her reflections well, and you'll have an easy A
I took Professor Harris for summer 2025 online. No lockdown browser. She's very clear about her instructions and grading criteria especially when it comes to the reflections (discussions). She does offer extra credit. It's an easy A class.
Very tough grader. Gives terrible grades on the littlest mistakes. I would not recommend.
Overall my experience with Professor Harris was very good. She is very straightforward, and has expectations laid out for exactly what she wants. In regards to the reflections, the assignment instructions were very detailed about what will get a 100%. Also offers extra credit.
Very rude, unclear guidelines, hands out 0's like candy on Halloween.
