Professor is very intelligent, knowledgeable, helpful & patient with students. She makes her own version of ppt slides which are superb for study, reference and practice.Very organized, does calculations with structured formulas & extreme precision & expects same from students.Tests fair.Speaks world class English with a nice European accent, loved it.
TEACHES TOO MUCH MATERIAL IN SO LITTLE TIME AND NOT ENOUGH TIME TO UNDERSTAND AND ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE THE TESTS. THE TEXTBOOK IS MORE USEFUL THAN HER SLIDES
Dr. Coarfa is hands down one of the best professor I have had. She goes out of her way every class to make sure everyone understands the material, works tons of example problems and stays as long as needed after class to answer questions. She is very fair, has a great personality and is overall an excellent teacher! I highly recommend her!
She is the CHEM teacher highly recommended she would help as long as u need
Very sweet lady, posts all of her powerpoints online along with additional study materials. However, she does move rather fast in class, and I found her a little hard to understand (though I have a slight hearing problem, and interpreting any type of accent is slightly difficult for me). Also, the material itself is very very very difficult.
Sweetest teacher ever. I highly recommend her to whoever wants to take Chem1412. I took it in Summer and got an A+ . She makes things easy for you and will help you after class. Just take her.
She is very nice, helpful and she cares about her students. Ask for her help anytime, but know she does not like to answer your questions by e-mail too much. She grades fairly. 1413 is not a hard class, but you still need a good professor - I recommend Ms. Coarfa!
hard class but she did a good job. Always taught to best of ability. This is NOT a watered down summer chem 2 course and is quite rigorous. Doesnt use departmental exams but makes her own, which are harder. She will keep lots of pressure on you but you will learn more. She doesn't really care about labs though and quality suffered in that area.
if u want to learn something about chemistry and get a good grade at same take her. she is absolute awesome Professor. she prefer to explain everything in detail and specific. i take chem 1411 and 1412 with and get A in both. I heard she is leaving HCCS. That will be sad part. Thumbs Up Dr. Violeta F. Coarfa
Professor Coarfa is well-informed in chemistry, however, it may be a tad bit difficult to follow her during instruction because she has an accent. She is willing to help if you are stumped on something difficult. This course is not easy breezy as you must work hard to earn a good grade. Nonetheless, she knows what she's doing so take her
Good teacher without a doubt. She explained clearly everything and even repeated her explanations when we asked her to. I took 1405 but I appreciated that she always found the time to cover lots of 1405 stuff before she introduced 1411 concepts. She even shared her 1405 slides, when requested. She is pushy and demanding but you learn Chem with her.
Chem1412 in only 4 weeks is very hard. Professor explains well, is patient with questions, I understood the material easily from her. But one exam every week was tough. Exams were hard, but I liked that she did reviews before exams and worked fully on them, when returned. She was very relaxed with labs, which helped. Liked her but not Chem1412
Good professor who knows how to teach and enjoys what she does. This professor does teach so expect lots of information during lectures. If you plan to use her slides, do not buy the textbook. She has very useful slides. Even so she still puts lots of stuff on the whiteboard so take good notes. Highly recommended!
Great teacher and class. She explains the hard information very well and enjoys teaching her students. The information is difficult but if you go to class and understand the material the tests are relatively easy. Ask questions in class and attend the review for a good grade. Final is a compilation of the previous tests so it is very do-able.
one of hardest classes I've taken. Tests are very hard and you have to know your stuff. Chem 2 has lots of math and you DO need Chem one to do well so don't bother showing up without it. Very fast paced sometimes but she is super dedicated. best way to do well is get a study partner and live Chem in the library + do practice problems till u drop
Yes, she is a good teacher but she is not very helpful at all. She teaches way too fast. Then she decided to only send the power point lectures only to the students that were in class the week before which is nonsense considering students have other situations to deal with outside of class. Do not take her you will hate it. Never taking her again.
If you're interested in Chem, she's a great choice.
I really loved her teaching style. She made Chem look so easy. She likes working on tons of problems but her explanations are crystal clear. Highly recommended if you are into Chem
Very inspirational person. She knows how to pass a message and how to make the worst student an A student.
Amazing professor! I took her summer Chem1412 class after I dropped it at UH. She took the time to explain every detail so finally I understood what this class was about. She is very detail oriented and this helps you understand Chemistry easily. Good person who cares about students and their success in her class. I highly recommend her!
I highly recommend this professor. she really enjoys helping students and this makes her the best teacher ever!
The only HCCS professor who answered my emails promptly. She's a very dedicated professor and wants to help everyone. Easy exams if you understand well her practice exams. Very kind lady too.
Prof Coarfa was super cool and understanding. She gives you 3 test and 1 final through out the semester and that is all you have to go off of when it comes to your final grade so be sure you study for those tests hard. This class was overall alot of fun but very stressful because she gives you alot of information to study.
Very good instructor, one of the best I had at HCCS. She has very clear notes, so do not buy the book. She is available for help anytime. Very humble teacher but one who does a great job.
Take this teacher, not just because you want to pass but take her if you want to learn. She is understanding and very knowledgeable.
Her lab class i had no problem. Easy A. But lecture was very hard. She lectures too quickly and wasnt very clear. I struggled in that class! I had to print the powerpoints and reteach myself at home where i was able to understand clearly. Overall she is a very nice instructor but it would help if she could slow down on the material.
stop searching on here and just take this professor! She is such an amazing person and really cares for her students. #firstrating
I highly advise everyone to take her class! She does many examples on the board, has many more on her slides. She will go back to explain if needed. Her reviews are similar to the exams. Clear grading criteria, will give extra credit when needed. No actual homework was given. I personally did not put effort in this class, hence my low grade.
She is a really good teacher. She has practice worksheets online that helps you understand the topic even better. This class is not an easy A, you have to study and put in the effort.
TAKE HER. There's only 3 tests; no homework, but plenty of worksheets for you to practice. You won't need to buy a textbook, everything you'll need's in the slides. If you don't understand something, she is more than willing to help you. She actually teaches you unlike most. The test reviews are former tests, so you really know what to expect.
She is the best! I highly recommend her. Too bad she does not teach other Chem classes. Do not buy the textbook, she has very good powerpoints and lots of worksheets with full solutions. Many opportunities for extra extra credit.
She is so sweet. The best professor really . You will enjoy every class of her. Very helpful she is aswell. Don't miss her class , exercise her practice test. Then you good for your A. #1 professor.
Took Chem 1305 in person but it was turned into online. She requires lockdown browser for exams. But if you attend lectures and study you will pass. She explains everything so well and assigns a day for review. 1st exam is mainly math 2 lecture exams 1 District exam- replaces lowest lecture grade if lower than district Every exam there's bonus q's
Dr. Coarfa is the BEST! She cares about her students and it shows! As long as you pay attention in class and go home and review the material you will do great! My grade drastically dropped due to the pandemic but that was 100% my fault due to the circumstances. TAKE HER IF YOU CAN, you wont regret it! Test reviews are similar to actual test!
Dr. Coarfa is such a sweet & helpful teacher. Her class is very easy to pass, the only way you would fail is if you show up really late to class or skip. Attendance is mandatory!!! After the pandemic we had dry labs & she was just as helpful online. She even let me attend her lecture class since my chem prof sucked. Easy A & you'll actually learn.
The class was initially in person but had to be changed to online due to COVID. The transition was smooth. Prior to that, attendance was mandatory. She only allows one make up lab. You also have to work with your group, she is very observing. Pretty easy and straight forward.
Loved this teacher! She has 4 exams including the final the whole semester... no homework but one extra credit opportunity. She does not make the tests difficult. Just pay attention in class, go over the chapter power-points she assigns, ask all the necessary questions, and youll definitely pass.
I was so nervous for chemistry because Ive never been good at it but she is so patient and willing to go over any little thing you may be having a hard time with. She gives so many examples and helpful worksheets. She responds to emails within minutes. Take good notes and do the optional extra problems and you should be in good shape!
Lectures are long and boring, there's no graded homework only worksheets you can print out and do. Your grade at the end of the semester is only determined by the 3 unit test and the final so if you fail two tests you're screwed. Also, the test reviews were useless and the professor seemed like she was inconvenienced by the fact she had to lecture.
Super caring and helpful. Take her if you want to learn!
Professor Coarfa really knows how to teach Chemistry. Always willing to go into detailed explanations and examples to help her students grasp the topics. 3 lecture exams, 1 final exam and online hw. All multiple choice. Chemistry isn't easy so don't expect an easy A. If you put in the effort and properly learn the material, an A or B is possible.
If you want to learn chemistry, take Professor Coarfa! She knows how to properly teach each subject for the class. She gives you extra resources to help you because she wants you to pass her class. The only way to fail is if you do not study outside of class!
This class was ok. Her lectures are extremely detailed and repetitive, so she is annoyed when you ask questions. "Class time" is just reviewing the lecture she sends you, so online classes are actually twice as time consuming. There are often questions on the tests that weren't covered in the lecture, so the test reviews are somewhat ineffective.
This professor is so kind. She is my first Chemistry teacher in the United States and her lecture is very understanding for people who first time touch chemistry like me. Also she provides some extra credit based on her lecture and extra credit in exam. 3 exams and 1 final, will drop your lowest grade and use your final exam grade instead.
Dr. Coarfa is a professor. Unlike many of the professors at HCC she will actually spend the time to teach, which is refreshing. This is not an easy A class. Study the Practice exams, and actually do the Homework assignments and you will do well. She is very good and is what you would expect from a 4 year professor at any college.
Amazing prof. Study all her practice exams, the tests use the same format. Huge bonus point opportunity, do all of them! Online homework, she will reopen the homework if you missed the due date. The lowest score is replaced by the final. Possible 20 points added to the lowest score as well (also overall grade). TAKE HER!
Professor Coarfa was a Godsend ,no homework and gave lots of extra credit .She would send videos of the lectures beforehand and then the day of class she would go over any questions you had ,I was able to retain info so well with this teaching style, she also gave practice exams and went over each question.Very responsive and enjoys teaching.
Professor Coarfa is an outstanding professor. She provides plenty of practice exercises (with answers). Her lectures are detailed and helpful. I took this class over the summer, so it consisted mainly on exams. I failed the first exam, but I managed to bring my grade up, by reviewing the recordings of the powerpoint slides.
Took this class summer 2022 HCC she will be going to A&M to those taking her keep in mind chemistry is not a class that can be made easy by your professor you must study hard and understand concepts. She is amazing and sweet. She can crack under pressure a bit when time is short but on the overall you can tell she has lots of experience lecturing
Really good professor. Her explain his good, everything she explains is in the test.
I took Her for Chem 1311, Listen, she is a great teacher! Lectures are clear, homework is helpful, she drops the lowest test grade and replaces it for whatever you get on the final exam. Extra credit literally helped me pass. Mock test look similar to actual test. Def would take her again. My HCC professor crush !
Great professor, very willing to help out. It is not a hard class just show up and take good notes. Her lab notes are very thorough and easy to understand. She explains clearly her expectations for each lab assignment. Great and useful feedback on each assignment. I really enjoyed her online lab. Take her!
Take her classes, guys. She provides many resources that you need for the class. She explains every detail. I have no words to express how grateful I am that I have been in these classes. I could never have made it without her excellent work. Love her.
great professor. gets to the point in lectures. 3 exams, hw, and final. prof tries to make herself available a lot. helps students get the maximum grade possible.
She teaches a difficult subject pretty well. There are many opportunities for extra credit. There are three exams, one final exam, and homeworks.
I took her 5 week summer course online and it went a lot better than I expected! She has lecture videos for you to watch, but if you had questions you could ask them online during "class". Responds in a timely manner to emails. There are 3 tests and a final. She has plenty of bonus point opportunities. If you need a chem credit take her class!
Amazing professor. The lectures were recorded so I could take notes at my own pace at home. The practice tests gave a very accurate idea of what the tests would be like. She offered many ways to get bonus points for the final exam and replaced the lowest test grade with the grade of the final.
Dr. Coarfa is an amazing professor, always willing to help, and very patient with our questions. Easy A only if you study and show up online. I highly recommend her online class if you want to learn Chemistry she is amazing and goes above and beyond to help you. Best online class I have ever taken
Best chemistry professor I've had. Each lecture was recorded so I could watch them again at my own pace at home. Her practice tests were an excellent indication of how the test would be.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR FOR CLEAR UNDERSTANDING ON CHEM I really enjoyed learning with this professor. By far the most organized and attentivce professor i ever had. You do not need to purchase a textbook as everything she provides in her slides and lectures are more than enough. As long as you use all the resources provided than it is an easy A+.
Dr. Coarfa answered my emails promptly and helped me stay on track with everything when I was sick. She provided us with recorded lectures which were very helpful when I got sick and missed her online sessions. Her class might not be an easy A, this is college chemistry and you need to study but she offers lots of help. Take her !
Dr. Coarfa is an excellent professor who enjoys teaching. I got 90+ on each exam and all I did was to study her slides with chapter guides and listened often to her lecture recordings. She gave us six exams to review before the final exam. If you understand these exams, then you can expect a good grade on the final
Dr. Coarfa is one of my favorite professors. She cares about her students and makes time to help them. Great lectures, with exam questions coming directly from her slides and practice exams.
One of the best professors I have ever had. Dr. Coarfa is kind, understanding, and very helpful if you need extra help outside of the classroom. Mostly medium questions and only a few hard questions on exams but they all came from her slides, practice exams and mock exams. Her homework is optional. Labs are fun and easy.
No homework but it is recommended to do the practice/mock exams that she supplies. She gives more resources and you can even search up past exams from other professors if you'd like more study material. I can't say for her online teaching, but I found that as long as you do the necessary procedures (slides, exams, questions, etc) then you'll be fine.
The BEST professor I've had. Took her for summer 5-week class and even though it's fast paced and a little hard due to the nature of the subject, she made it so easy, with mock exams, extra credit, and review days before exam. 3 tests and final. 12 available points extra credit. Super understanding and sometimes releases class early. Got an easy A
Prof. Coarfa is an excellent chemistry professor who provides all resources needed to succeed, including organized slides, lecture notes, practice exams, and solutions. Extra credit mock exams are also available. She is prompt in responding to messages and highly respected. It's hard to fail this course; if you do, it's likely an issue on your end.
5-week class: 3 exams+final. She really explains any question/doubt you have & tries her best for the class to understand & succeed. Out of all the professors I've had in my life, she's been the most organized w/ her class & notes. The class was in person & she recorded her lectures for anyone to look back on. Notes, videos, lectures all on Canvas
First of all, she genuinely cares for her students and wants them to learn. Her lectures are well put together. Her Canvas shell has everything you need for studying. Don't buy the textbook. She wants you to do well on exams so attend her review sessions and talk to her if you need extra help. She is very accessible outside of class
Hard class but manageable. It helps that she is open to recording lectures and offers extra chem help during office hours. Her practice exams and mock exams really help you study for the real exams. You can review your exams and go over grading in more detail with her. She really wants to help everyone
I really like Dr. Coarfa and her teaching style. As a TAMU Academy student, she is your only choice for chemistry but luckily she is awesome. She goes above and beyond to help you. Her system of grading was clear and she always explains her expectations on exams. She is very generous with homework deadlines and extra credits.
One of the best professors I've had. Her lectures are very thorough, plus they're recorded. She provides practice exams and timed mock exams before the real ones. There are also endless opportunities for bonus points. Overall, if you pay attention in the lectures and thoroughly practice, the exams should be light work.
Very easy lab course. Her experiments were fun, easy and enjoyable. Just turn in your lab reports before the deadline and you will be fine. Super easy A
Dr. Coarfa is a very kind and understanding professor who is willing to help you with chemistry. She gives homework on Pearson and provides practice exams as personalized study guides to study for lecture exams. The nice thing is that she also gives bonus points from mock exams and will add those bonus points to the highest lecture exam score.
Coarfa was a great teacher. She put a lot of her own time into the class by making recordings over all of the lectures that we could access any time. She answers emails very quickly and is very attentive to her student's needs. She also gave A LOT of bonus points which were great and helped the entire class a lot. She genuinely cares about students
She's been absolutely amazing at going above and beyond to support her students. Her exams can be challenging, but the EC opportunities really help with the final grade, which is a big plus. She's always available via email or during her office hours. She puts so much effort into making learning effective and enjoyable.
Her accent may be sort of hard to get sometimes but she's generally good at getting the lectures across. Some of the later units I had to go to YouTube but I believe that is just due to the difficulty of chemistry. Her bonus point opportunities are great and that's why I would take her class again.
Dr. Coarfa is an amazing professor who cares a lot about her students. Her lectures are very in depth and are very thorough to cover the amount of material in the class. The practice exams are designed to help you to prepare for each exam. If you practice those practice exams, you should do well. Bonus points are added to the highest exam score.
I took Dr. Coarfa for both Chem 1311 and Chem 1412, and ending both classes with an A+. She can spend a lot of time reviewing very basic knowledge during lectures which causes her to go at a very slow pace, overall her lectures were pretty useful though. Tests were extremely similar to the practice and mock exams she provides which made them easy.
summer course. She is the absolute best. She breaks things down and answers Qs well. Was worried about chem, but she made it so easy, idk how people can fail this class. Many bonus opportunities, review and mock are SO similar to exam. Only exams for grades, lowest score is dropped and replaced by final, if it is better. Thankfully took her!
SO easy, she breaks things down b4 the lab regarding chem computations or nomenclatures in case you do not take lecture at the same time or have it with a diff. prof. It is Lab report, lab quiz, lab assignment and thats your grade. It is very hard to fail, as long as you do your work, you are good with a high A. She is also very nice and caring.
Very easy to communicate with Dr. Coarfa.I had many concerns about taking an online course but I was pleasantly surprised by how organized her Canvas course was.She provided ample resources that were incredibly useful for studying. She was very responsive to my emails and provided me peace of mind when I had questions or needed further assistance.
I was very worried about taking an online chemistry class but Professor Coarfa's canvas was so organized and has so many helpful resources on it, including videos, powerpoints, and ungraded practice problems. She was super responsive and emailed back quickly. Your grade consists of three exams plus the final, but she offers a lot of bonus points
She is the best Chem professor. She is an EZ grader with a lot of bonus points she adds to your exams. she has a lot of practice worksheets you can do and Mock exams to take to practice for the real exam. only 25 question the exams. No way to fail her class. She requires Lockdown Browser. I took this for summer, and it was a breeze not stressful.
Lots of studying to do in just 5 weeks but she helps, answers emails, and offers additional online materials. However, I found the requirement for a mirror during online exams to be very overwhelming.A lockdown browser and webcam should suffice but not for her. Expect many emails from her if she doesn't like how you've placed the mirror. Stressful.
Dr. Coarfa is one of the few professors who actually teaches and truly cares about students learning chemistry. Her lectures are clear, and her recorded videos are extremely helpful. Attend class, watch the videos and do the homework and practice exams. Don't miss the chance to learn from someone who genuinely wants her students to succeed!
Very helpful! She takes her teaching role very seriously maybe a little too seriously lol but you definitely learn chemistry with her. She's strict, but in a good and motivating way. She pushes you to do your best and explains concepts clearly. The final grade comes from four exams. Homework is optional and she gives many EC
If you're looking for an easy A or don't really need chemistry, this isn't the class for you bc you'll be studying a lot. She's dedicated and puts a ton of effort into her teaching. She wants everyone to understand the material and succeed in her class. Her course materials are super useful, and I really liked her practice exams and mock exams.
I am currently taking her, and she is a good teacher. Very caring and helps you to understand your material, and very attentive when you ask your questions. But she takes too much time to grade the homework. Since the beginning of the semester, she has not graded anything yet. But she is a very good teacher, TAKE HER.
Dr. Coarfa is awesome! She's very helpful and always there when you need extra help with chemistry. As long as you're respectful and do your work, she'll fully support you. One of the best professors I've ever had at HCC!
Super organized, nice, and her grading criteria made the class very manageable. A++++
This is a very straightforward lab course. Easy A if you complete and submit everything on time. She is strict about deadlines, but her policy of dropping the lowest pre-lab, post-lab, in-lab assignments definitely helps. She's very nice and always willing to help. Her lab lectures also helped me better understand my CHEM 1305 course.
Amazing professor. She knows her chemistry and knows how to teach it. The homework is long, but it pays off, just be ready to put in the hours. There are great extra credit opportunities and she replies back very fast. Highly recommend her class!
I almost dropped her class, but thankfully she convinced me to stay. Chem 1305 is a hard course, at least for me, but Dr. Coarfa is a great professor. She explains chemistry clearly, provides excellent study materials, and tries to help everyone succeed. She's very patient with her explanations. Take her!
As a returning student, I expect quality in any class I pay for, and Dr. Coarfa delivered far beyond my expectations. She is committed to her students' learning and creates a classroom environment that is both challenging and supportive. She goes the extra mile to ensure everyone understands the material. She is organized and passionate about teaching
This teacher is incredibly helpful and kind. Chem 1311 can be very challenging, especially if you don't remember much from high school, but fortunately she offers plenty of ECs and her practice exams and mock exams really help you prepare for the real tests.
Pre-Lab Assignments 20% (13 assignments) In-Lab Assignments 50% (13 assignments) Post-Lab Assignments 10% (13 assignments) Final Exam 20% (25 questions + 2 bonus questions all multiple choice)
She will literally give 100s in the pre labs/post labs/ in labs if you actually try and submitted all of them. She does dropped the LOWEST pre lab/post lab/ in labs (ex: lab 13 was ur lowest grade she would drop the pre lab, in lab and post lab) .
It is mandatory to go to class, if you dont you cant submitted the pre labs or the post labs. Easy experiments, she will even do a small lecture before. I WILL 100% take her, easy way to get an A. I got 100s in al my assignments and a 61 in the final exam (worth 20%) and passed with an 92.
She's super sweet, organized, fair, and approachable. She cares about her students and will help you as long as you follow her instructions. Just a warning: she may change the way she talks to you if she doesn't like how you treat her. Very easy lab course! Very easy A!
Professor Coarfa is such an amazing professor, she really cares about her students' success. No homework, just exams. Be prepared and ready to learn, you will have to self-study and use your time wisely. Goesover material again, sends you videos to review, mock exams, and practice exams. I have to take Gen Chem and she will be the professor I take.
I was so scared to take chemistry and professor coarfa made chemistry very manageable and easy her lectures are amazing she explains everything so well that really helps you understand. very generous with extra credit and very patient with explaining if you dont understand , she also replies very fast to emails. easy A IF YOU STUDY !TAKE HER!
