His lectures are the worst and his powerpoints are just text. Its nice because he drops your lowest quizzes but its still an awful class. He gives you a list of sample questions which he copy/paste for his quiz/tests but its like a 1 out of every 10 thing so cannot really memorize it. Lab is pointless and project is easy. Low grade my own fault
If you end up taking this course, you will work and struggle. He emphasizes student learning; not memorization. At first the course is manageable, then as time progresses (other courses increase learning/drop date passes) you will feel like you're financially drowning. He is a respectable professor, but should most likely reduce the course material
There are 3 exams total, he will replace your lowest exam grade with your highest at the end! 8 quizzes, the two lowest are dropped. The lab project is super easy if you go to the lab and pay attention to the TA. He gives you the test questions, which are quiz questions as well, with the answers! Overall easy B.
He is a fair professor overall. The work and material itself is not easy. You pretty much have to earn your grade. He does a pretty good job at explaining and teaching concepts that are kind of hard to grasp. Lab was easy, but quizzes and exams are pretty tough. If you study and practice what he teaches then you will pass the class with an A or B
One of the best professors I have ever had. He explains everything with great detail, and provides online slides to allow easy note taking during lectures. Make sure to start out strong because the class gets progressively harder throughout the year.
He is super smart; he is a horrible teacher though. Super condescending to any questions that are dumb or smart. Also, you have to work with super long modules that literally took about 80% of my study time this last semester to go through. My grades suffered in other classes because of his class. I would recommend him if he is your only option.
you have to read and understand everything if you want to pass this class, dont try to memorize the assignments, 8 quizzes and drop the lowest 2. 2 midterm exams and 1 final. He gives a lot of notes and assignments. be prepared for a though semester.
Knowledgeable guy and great lectures. However, his quizzes are based off the modules which are ridiculously long and take up lots of time. Once you get to know him and talk to him after class, then you'd know his true intentions are to never make you feel stupid but i can see how some folks can think that. Be ready to support your answer in lecture
Great professor to take for both visual and conceptual learners. Teaches off the power points and sends quiz examples of step by step to learn the problems at home.
The worst professor I have ever had. We were supposed to have eight quizzes throughout the entire semester but he got so behind in his lectures that he gave us three in the last two weeks. He also removed a chapter and then added it back after the last class even though he never discussed it. All around terrible professor.
He's tough but he's good. You have to be willing to work in this class. 8 quizzes and 3 exams. 2 quizzes will be dropped. 1 before the midterm and 1 after. He allows one page formula sheet for tests and quizzes. For the final you're allowed 2 two sided pages of formulas. Lab was easy and very helpful. Do not take him if you have horrible work ethic
You assign your own groups. (dont pick your dumb friends you will regret it). He gives you study packets for each quiz (assignments that arent graded). He takes questions straight from there... Study and you will have no issues. This guy wants you to learn!
Quick breakdown for those interested: Cons: - Quiz after every chapter, must show all work - Not entirely likable Pros: - Gives it to you straight - One Page cheat sheet on quizzes, Two Page cheat sheet on exams - Drops 2 quiz grades - Replaces an exam grade with final Dont need to go to class, just read the notes he posts.
Overall I was satisfied with the professor. Cons: - Quiz after each chapter - Not the best professor Pros: - One Cheat Sheet on Quizzes, Two on Exams - Drops 2 quiz grades and replaces an exam grade with final - 10% of your grade is just not talking in class You can easily get an A just by reading the notes he posts online
This class will take up most of your study time. He makes the material harder than it really is. Studying for this class is very time consuming. You can create a formula sheet for every quiz/test. Quizzes after each module. Do every problem in the practice test in order to pass every test/quiz. You need to work for your grade!!!
Makes material seem way harder than it actually is. Quizzes only have 1-3 long answer math questions. Must do the whole entire test bank to prepare for any quiz or test. First semester this class was offered without the lab hour.
While his lecturing is pretty good, this guy does not pull any punches on the material you're tested on. His quizzes and tests are half short answer, and half multiple choice, and while there are test banks you can study with, the questions are by no means easy. He also tends to be a bit condescending and rude during his lectures, just a heads up
Professor Agrawal provides everything you need to succeed. His exams are challenging, but there is not one question he asks that you have not received in your lecture notes or quizzes beforehand. His lectures are a bit heavy, but so is the finance course! Apply yourself, and you can get an A, if nothing else, you'll be able to learn. He cares a lot
one of the easiest classes i have ever taken. dont be lazy all the answers are given to you in the test bank. easy A
He is one of the best profesors I have had. Great lectures. He wants you to learn the material. The material is hard, but not impossible to understand. He gives out test banks and takes problems from them to make the exams and quizzes. Study/memorize the test bank. Success. Many people complain about him, but those are the ones that don't attend
Do not take this prof. He breezes through his powerpoints without ever actually working out one problem, so you're forced to teach yourself. He's somewhat rude in class and threatens to drop you a whole letter grade if you disrupt his lecture. He does give test banks that he pulls questions from for the quizzes and tests. Homeworks are easy 100s
This is not a class for someone with a demanding schedule. It will take up ALL of your study time. Tests and quizzes come directly from the test banks he gives you but the test banks have so many questions they can be difficult to study. I got an A but it took some work. Also, 10% of your grade is basically not pissing him off. (He's always grumpy)
If you cant get at least a B in this class, quit college.
he reads from the powerpoint. His quzzes and mids are from test banks but final is not. final is comprehensive. don't need to attend class. just do test banks
FINANCE MAJORS: though you will not learn from him he is the best choice you got. He gives out a test bank for every quiz, the tests are made up from the quizzes. He lets you have an equation sheet. NO OTHER finance professors do this, so even though he is mean and cant teach this is your best hope. Keep your head down and dont get on his bad side.
The most painful, excruciating class I ever had to take. Does not know how to teach and his exams are super difficult. People were literally crying after the finals. His personality is like Angela from The Office, and if you get a chance to avoid his class, it will be the best decision you ever make.
You won't learn a thing in this class as you will spend all your time scrambling to catch with the assignments and cases. Exams are extremely difficult. Also he has very specific rules in class, and he will deduct participation points if you don't adhere to those.
IF you take professor Agrawal's Fundamentals of Corp Finance class, and pay attention, regardless of your grade (so long as its passing) you will be set for future finance courses at UTSA. He prepares you for all the upper level courses like investing and securities analysis. Also he cares that you actually learn something vs. just passing tests.
Terrible, stay away! He is nice and will smile once in a while, but the tests and quizzes are terribly hard(short answer questions). He gives out study material that only has the questions on it, and he says you can get the answers in class or in the book so there isn't an answer sheet. Like I just want to know what he thinks the complete answer.
Vipin is a serious professor who always arrived 5-10 minutes late to class. He does not really teach, but simply reads from the slides. I ended up struggling and teaching myself basically. He does provide test reviews and there are multiple quizzes. Good luck.
i hated every minute with him, wont wear his microphone he makes things overly difficult and only cares about his own interests, seems to like conflict, wants to have you submit your work even though you are using financial calculator. one attempt at homework then wants you to hit his lab for 2nd attempt if you don't hit lab or turn in work grade 0
This is the hardest class I have taken in my 3 years of college. You will pass, but you will not get an A unless you give an arm and a leg. He is better than any of the other professors available at utsa. Class structure changed as of Jan 2020. Do the test bank and you'll get a B. Test bank is the hw, quizzes, exams with different numbers.
I really don't understand all the negative reviews of him. He makes this class extremely manageable by giving you EXACTLY what you need for the quizzes and tests. It seems students just want to get a degree without learning anything or doing any work. Vipin literally gives the test bank which is all you need. EASY A.
Terrible professor. He really knows his stuff, but literally just reads off slides. He is not understanding at all and does not care about his students. He shows up late constantly, takes WEEKS to grade, and forever to respond to emails. The only reason I took him is because he was the only professor available. Sucky person, even worse professor.
Takes weeks to grade, exams are extremely complicated for no reason. Shows up late to class and refuses to wear a microphone so he can be heard.
Stay away. Prof Agrawal does not teach, he simply reads off slides and thinks everyone is as smart as him. He relies on other profs/TAs to teach his class the material and could care less with his classes struggles. I am a straight A student but struggled in this class. Do not think it is possible to get an A. Take my advice & do not take his class
He's not a terrible professor but he isn't the best either. Test banks will SAVE your grade, so do video solutions and study conceptual questions. Takes a long time to grade and grades you "professionally" so don't email him about when he'll input grades. Uses the final to replace a low test grade and drops 2 quiz grades. Be ready to work hard
One of the worst professors I have taken at UTSA. Spend the whole class answering students' questions rather than teaching, had to finish up a whole module (2 chapters) by ourselves days before the exam. Didn't even know how many questions he was going to have. Has TA grade everything, does zero work for the students. Take a different professor!
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH THIS PROFESSOR. He does not teach, he reads off of slides and expects you to be as smart as he is and already know the material. The TA's are helpful, but don't teach that well either. This professor was so bad, he has been the only course I've ever dropped in my academic career. And I'm a senior. You have been warned.
This is by far one of the worst professors at UTSA. His class is mostly conceptual and critical thinking, but he will not teach you the concepts. Everything is expected to be learned from the book (which is trash).Long prep guides due almost every class, and tests are short answer essay questions. If you want a successful college career AVOID HIM.
you might think it cant be that bad like I did but if you are forced into online learning he is not it chief, your paying to read a textbook and ask him questions with a percentage of his homework (due before class) not even mentioned in the book. the guy has done the bare minimum at most and nothing at least.
Professor Vipin. What can be said about this guy? Cannot concentrate in his online lectures, class structure is all over the place, wants the student to learn everything by themselves, tests are designed to make you fail, and simply not good (at least online). I read the past reviews and thought I could do it; I couldn't. You have been warned!
Pros: - "80 - 85% of students pass this class" (his historical class statistic) - Uses some problems from the textbook (textbook provides solutions) Cons: - His lectures are unorganized & hard to follow at times - Very tough grader & you will have to actually study - Participation is integral Overall Vipin is fair & rewards hard working students
During the Covid era so I took as an online class. I recommend taking this course with someone else if possible. He gives what he calls "test banks" for a few chapters at a time. These take so long to fill out and a few questions are selected for you to submit for grading. He picks about 3 questions to be on your exams. Exams not multiple choice
Professor Agrawal's homework assignments are questions from "test banks" that are super long and tedious but will be your best help for the test because he picks about 4 of the super long questions out of the 50. He had to curve our grades a whole letter grade.
This is the most non-user friendly class I have ever taken. The schedule is overly complicated. You wont be assigned to just read chapter 5, you will have to read chapter 5.3-4, 6.8-9, and 8.10-11. Also it took the majority of the class like 2 weeks to even find the book because he doesn't just give you a link to it like every other class ever.
He is absolutely the worst professor that I have taken in the past 4 years. His grading turn around times are like 3 weeks, he is not easy to get a hold of. The text book took our class around 2 weeks to find because it was not easily linked for us. If I was able to give a Zero on here I would, Avoid this professor at all costs if possible!!!
Agrawal is easily one of the worst professors Ive ever taken. He sets his students up for failure in an already difficult to learn class. He does not teach, but lets solution videos of other people teaching do the work for him instead. Dont even bother watching his lecture videos. He talks as if we already know the material. AVOID
I read his previous RateMyProfessor reviews and thought to myself that I could finish his class with an A (at the time I had a 3.9 GPA business double major). I won't criticize his character as a person, but as a professional he is the worst professor I have ever taken. A LOT of work with NOT a lot of time between quizzes and exams. Do not take.
In all my years as a college student, this professor was the most unorganized and unnecessarily complicated. Do NOT take this professor. He takes forever grading, hard to reach, and overall the sloppiest worst case scenario professor. Not sure how he is still allowed to teach when more than 90% of his students regret signing up with him.
Had a 4.0 before this class and I regret not looking up his ratings beforehand. Dont pick this professor. You wont learn a thing, just literally nothing but completing work and hoping for the best. Save yourself a headache and choose another finance professor.
I am not writing this to scare y'all but if you are planning on taking FIN3013 with Agrawal you better don't. I spent the most anxious months of my life having him as a professor, you are supposed to learn advanced finance through video solutions that he does not even record himself. stay away for your mental health.
Very rude, he goes by "the system" and believes its correct doesn't allow or isn't open to anybody's else's opinion.. gets very snarky and somehow during the semester ask all of his students to stop emailing him so how the heck are we supposed to communicate? Doesn't and will not answer questions because it's already stated but is not clear
I wish I looked at the reviews first ! He's rude and says out of pocket remarks. He does not make you feel like you'll succeed at all !
I should have read the recent reviews, they're pretty accurate. Lecture heavy, 70% of your grade is based on three exams. His teaching method is very outdated, you're back in the 80s unable to use your laptop to take notes, no utilization of Excel, etc. A grade isn't supposed to be free, but he does set you up for failure like the Accounting Dept.
Trust the reviews please. This is the worst professor I have ever had at the University for any class. Very terrible teacher that just doesn't give clear enough notes. If you can teach yourself then you'll probably pass.... Probably. Don't even consider him, I very much regret giving him a chance.
Save your GPA and take this class with anyone else. He is everything that the awful reviews say he is. He doesn't even teach his own material most of the time it's us teaching ourselves and I'm surprised he has not been reported to the student dean until now.
My class all picked a different prof. and got thrown into this guy's class for some reason. He's not bad, he just makes it challenging. It took me a long time to conceptualize material. there are assignments on webassign for each part of the class. if truly understand them and the material, you'll pass exams and quizzes. Hw is not for grade though.
-(non bias) quizzes and exams are the only grades in class (could be a good or bad thing) - didn't sign up for this professor, got stuck w him - attendances not mandatory - i didnt attend many lectures cause he doesnt teach well but he has videos online that you'll have to teach yourself from. -you'll do good on quizzes and exams if you memorize
Personally made an account to warn future students to not take this professor. He teaches nothing to do with tests or quizzes. He then only gives you 7 opportunities to mold your grade. 4 quizzes 3 tests(1 test worth 30%) There's an online folder he provides with practice problems and solutions which only makes you memorize it not learn. AVOID!!!!
has gotten better but you just have to teach yourself basically
0/10 rating in my eyes. I had section 006 class I dropped. Vipin Agrawal does so many illegal academic activities that I'm certain are against conduct such as dropping an exam grade as a whole for some students. There was no homework, and 40+ page packets each module, I can go on and on. With all due respect, this person should not be teaching.
The Questions on his quizzes and tests are exactly the same as the "test bank" he provides. Therefore, if you study the test bank and know how to use the provided formula, you will get a good grade. I didn't show up to any lectures, and I was fine. As long as you study a few days beforehand, you will be fine.
The quizzes are easy, while the exams are brutally hard. He takes an extremely long time to grade, and in combination with the only grades in class being through quizzes and tests, you never know how well you're doing in class. An improvement to the class would be adding homework to the class instead of just tests and quizzes.
The quizzes are easy but exams extremely hard. Made us have a quiz every week because of his slow teaching on lectures, and a bomb threat that happened. Worst professor at UTSA. I would never ever take him again. I would not take him take any other professor for finance. WORST PROFESSOR AND FINANCE CLASS EVER!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATED IT!!!!!!!
Most of the reviews here don't accurately describe this professor. He is very test heavy and granted sometimes the content is much harder than expected. With that being said, even if you don't get the question right all the time, you'll get credit for doing the work and being in the right direction. Learning is up to you, leave the grading to him.
RUN! Vipin was the last choice for FIN 3013. If you can wait to take FIN 3013 I do IT! The other reviews are 100% ACCURATE. In his lectures he talks about NOTHING. Really inconsistent with quizzes and exams. No Hw to help study. He curves but does not specify how much he curves. Waste of time and MONEY. I would not recommend him to ANYONE.
There are 3 exams, and 5 quizzes. The lowest score quiz will be dropped. All questions in exams and quizzes are similar to the questions in test banks. The professor gave you enough materials for self-learning (test banks, questions with detailed answers). The class schedule is a little confusing. If you are ready to learn, you will be fine.
The material itself is challenging because the professor does not teach very well. His powerpoints are typically 100+ pages long and only teaches formulas but does not explain real world applications. There are 3 tests and 5 quizzes with no homework so you need to study a lot for the tests since they are worth 70% of your grade.
Easy class if you've taken accounting. Literally all you need to know are CAPM and time value of money. These two concepts are covered CONSTANTLY so it gets kinda boring. Even when a new concept is being taught, it's going to go back to either CAPM or time value of money. DO THE HW & WATCH THE HW VIDEOS! Extremely helpful for the quizzes AND EXAMS!
Lectures are bad. I barley understood what he was saying, he talks fast and it was difficult for me to grasp the concepts during his lectures. Only thing that saved me was the videos he posted, it was other ta's going over each problem. His PowerPoints are 100+ pages.
I don't think he was all that bad..sure his tests were tough but his case studies weren't all that difficult and that was the main grades for the course. Just show up participate do the CASE STUDIES and yall be fine! He does take awhile to grade but you get used to it. - KH
Doesn't answer emails. Didn't post final grades. Isn't clear on deadlines. Just find someone else.
He isn't the best at lectures, but, he passes at the lecture slides on paper. Class is easy if you don't need a good lecturer and can learn material on your own/by reading lecture slides. He also curves test grades so you end up doing better than you originally thought.
If this is your last option for a finance class, I recommend you just wait till next semester.
Somehow manages to teach nothing during the lectures. Only quizzes and tests, pretty easy if you teach yourself by looking at the practice test. Don't expect him to grade or respond to emails in a reasonable time frame.
I honestly think they listed his course without a professor so people would actually register for it without checking RMP first. I am a 4.0 student and he is the worst professor I have ever had. Exams are worth 70 of your grade. His lectures are useless, bad accent, my biggest advice is use his lecture time to study independently.TA was amazing tho
Lectures are incredibly long, yet contain no relevant information. You must teach yourself the entire course. My sections mean test and quiz scores were always below a 60. Agrawal showed up to every class late, and relied entirely on the TA for all aspects of administering tests and grading every single assignment. Avoid at all costs.
Prof will claim that you need to buy textbook. Don't, save your money. He posts test bank worksheets that he actually pulls questions for the exams and quizzes from, so if you do the one worksheet each module you will ace the class. His lectures do drag on, and he uses a lot of jargon. If you aren't well versed in finance lingo, don't take him.
This class is easy once you understand how his tests/quizzes are formatted. The questions are pulled directly from the non graded hws. Utilize the provided videos and hw answers. 5 quizzes and 3 tests are the only grades. I got better grades when I studied on my own. Overall, class is manageable if you use class time to study. Grades r posted late.
RUN!!! Do not take this class, the professor has ruined my mental health. I bearly got a C and that was the highest in the class. I had a 4.0 before this class. I wish I would have taken any other professor. A dog could've taught this class better.
dont even bother waisting your money on this professor, the class is taught by other professors through videos and he is always changing deadlines. he has shown up sick and was sighing through the mic while we were taking a quiz while laying down on a table. always late. doesnt respond quick to emails. honestly the class should be taught by the TA.
I have this class in the morning i drive to class. I prayed i got hit on the freeway so i don't have to go this class.
Only took one quiz before the midterm, then squeezed the last 7 quizzes into the second half of semester. His lectures don't make any sense, the only hope of passing is watching TA videos. TA's cover quiz questions and post the videos. If this is your last option, if you learn from lectures, or if you must take this class, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.
If i could rate this professor a zero i would but unfortunately you cant so i am stuck writing this. This is a public plea to utsa please for the love of your students get rid of this professor. PLEASE I BEG YOU GET RID OF HIM. BEING IN THIS CLASS WAS LIKE LIVING THROUGH A COLLEGE HORROR STORY ON REDDIT. I WISH I WAS EXAGGERATING.
Worst professor I've ever had. Straight out of a horror movie. I decided halfway through the final exam that I was going to retake the class because half the material on the exam didn't reflect what was taught in class. Formula sheets are given during exams but even that is difficult to understand. Students are set up for failure.
This professor can't complete lectures and changes his mind to suit himself.
Tests are the only thing graded. He doesn't teach you much you have to teach yourself. very easy to fail in
This is a self teaching class.. no. Homework.. no projects.. no extra points..juts 3 exams and you have to learn the topic on your own… if you really want to pass this class.. either get a tutor to get at least a c or by a bible…
He doesn't teach you anything during the lectures but manages to talk the entire time. This class is self taught. And there are very few grades with 3 exams and 8 quizzes. Im not sure how this guy still works at UTSA.
If you value your sanity don't take this professor. I'm a senior and this is literally the hardest class I've taken yet. He's very knowledgeable but has absolutely no idea how to teach. I've never not been confused in class. Tests are worth 70% of your grade, like half our class dropped. Please take any other professor.
Avoid like the plague. Literally. It is so bad I don't even have the words to explain it. We are three weeks away from finals and I haven't learned one thing. He does not teach anything!! The entire class time is wasted on concepts that don't reflect in exams. He had to create extra meeting times outside the scope of class to try to catch up. AWFUL
I would seriously consider waiting another semester rather than take this course. It is not worth it. You will not have an even close to enjoyable semester if you enroll in any of his courses. You may think these reviews are overdramatic as I did. THEY ARE NOT. You have been warned!!!!
If you are a good student and used to succeeding in classes, you should do everything to never be this professor's student. He will make you rethink why you even chose your major in the first place. He is out of touch with reality. He makes this course hard, but real jobs will NOT leave you to struggle like he does. Resources are endless IRL.
We haven't used our book once. Only buy it if you intend to teach yourself everything for the ENTIRE semester. He NEEDS to retire and find some hobbies. He looks disgruntled every single day, i honestly feel bad for him. Makes me mad I gave him my money. Professor like him should not be able to $cam students like he does. NOT WORTH IT AT ALL.
He is the worst professor I have had. There is no real structure for this class; he changes due dates around frequently, so it's tough to know when assignments are actually due. He tends to go over class time consistently. When he asked how he could help us due to low test averages, he shut down almost every student's suggestion. Please avoid him.
Terrible ! Only tests and quizzes fail one test you're cooked attendance mandatory for first 2 months of class do not take this prof save yourself
I'm really concerned on how he got and still has a teaching license. The first two weeks was just going over the syllabus. On day 3 I was really confused on how I let myself sign up for this professor. This class IS doable if you spend time outside class watching the TA videos who are the ones that ACTUALLY teach the material. Lock in and good luck
This was easily my toughest class at UTSA, not because of the material but because the instruction felt unclear and hard to follow. Lectures didn't offer much engagement. I ended up learning almost everything from the TA videos, which were significantly more helpful. If you take this course, expect to rely heavily on outside resources.
DO NOT TAKE!! Your grade is ONLY composed of tests and quizzes and attendance(iclicker), and you don't know what grade you have until the end. If you don't have time to study the homework (not for a grade) I HIGHLY recommend to not take him, the quizzes and tests(midterms) are pencil and paper. Not a hard class, just time consuming.
As he stated, even a B will be difficult to achieve. Attendance is to see if he wants to drop you from the course, not for credit. Lecture does not cover basic financial concepts to understand the material. Material is overall not hard, but you will need to teach yourself. Only 3 exams and 5 quizzes. As time consuming as a part time job.
Mr. Agrawal, he's the devil. He's smarter than you. He's luckier than you. Whatever you think is supposed to happen? The exact reverse opposite of that is gonna happen.
Run. It's finals week, and I still don't know my grade. He has not graded any of our group projects, even those submitted months ago. He doesn't teach anything worthwhile in class. Don't take him. This class will unnecessarily stress you out all semester.
Professor has stated many times that UTSA students are no where near being as smart or distinguished as our "competition" at TA&M or UT. He believes that UTSA students will not get jobs when running against other students from competitor universities. Question....WHY is he a professor at UTSA??? Dude thinks he is too good to be here but he $UCKS.
This guys blows. If you contact him via email he won't respond. He's not a professor that cares to help out students and I don't recommend taking him at all.
Doesn't grade assignments till the end of the semester. Offers no test aids/guides. Never listens to students' criticism. Seems as if he's suffering from a lot of stress, which then affects the course, making it one of the most stressful courses you may ever take.
Majority of learning will be done by yourself using TA made videos. Lectures for the first two months are mandatory but not helpful.
The worst experience of a class at UTSA. Mandatory lectures that are convoluted and ineffective. Attendance policy that takes 30 mins and is demeaning.
This professor grades using only tests and quizzes, which are heavily weighted. Do bad on one exam and you'll be stressing the whole semester. TA encouraged cheating in class and to be discreet. Lectures drag on, you'll do better learning the material yourself during class using the videos provided, do yourself a favor and pick anyone else.
