Juet do all her Hmwk and ask her for extra help. she is always ready to listen to you and understand what might be troubling you. But always be on time for class and dont skip any. You will do good.i took her over the summer.most class got good grade
There are no surprises on her exams...But enough of that overhead projector!
Professor Kanwal is GREAT. Her class is easy if you pay attention. She truly cares about her students and she has such a great fun loving personality. If you can take her, take her :)
One word for her and that is "EXCELLENT". She is wonderful teacher with good teaching abilities and she aslo possesses a nice friendly nature. If anyone wants to learn Biology with fun, take Kanwal.
Take her....best teacher in biology dept. there is no comparison between Prof., Kanwal and Gardner...Prof. Kanwal is best and Gardner is worst in Biology department.

Her exams are very hard. Good luck if you take her. She can also be very rude to her students. I really would not recommend her to anyone.
she is kool...not dat easy but a gud teacher...she is fair and will help you whenever you need it
Good professor, very knowledgable about the subject and she is willing to help students. This class is that not easy but come to lecture and listen to what she says and you will do fine.
Great teacher! She's very helpful, easy, goes over stuff until u get it, and is very nice. Don't take Baker or Gardner, Kanwal is the way to go.
Very kind and caring teacher. She presented interesting lectures, journal discussions and labs. My only complaint-writing those journal question assignments, which required lots of research.
she is very helpful and does a grade job in explaing the material. I had her during the fall semester and she was great. her tests are from notes. the only thing you have to do is dont miss any of the classes and do the work she gives you.
a great teacher, through and through. the journal assignments are kinda worthless, but the rest of her class is interesting and she really enjoys what she does and tries to make the students take interest, too. very nice lady with lots of personality and always has a smile on her face. :)
she is the best bio teacher that i ever had.i took her in summer and i ended up with an A. she does nice job in explaining the information. i would say stay away from palanker or any other professor and take pro kanwal. tests are the mirror to her notes and her class. just do not miss any of her class and u will be fine.
Prof.Kanwal is great.she would do anything to help u pass her class. Remember nothing lies on a silver platter. u have to earn your grade. And don't 4get to do ur homework and journal because it boosts your grade up.
I'm not impressed. I think she's a bit lazy -- makes you grade your own quizzes which is ridiculously time-consuming and takes away from HER teaching YOU. I can't understand her accent either. Wouldn't recommend.
I can't believe all the good ratings. She is HORRIBLE! Can't understand her accent; her notes are poor and then she gets mad when you take notes; she skips over things and NEVER goes back to them like she says, makes you grade your own quizzes because she's lazy and there are things on her exams that she doesn't even MENTION in her classes! BAD!
She's a good person and this is the only plus. She is so crazy about giving quizez!!! Her lectures are boring, you can read the same material in book. Also, Don't miss classes! Her exams are difficult, however, she says that it was based on lectures. Not True!! STUDY BOOK!! Never would take her!
She is great! Even though she has an ancent, but you could still understand her. She makes you grade your own quizzes. The tests is based on your notes, because all you have to do is just study the notes, and you'll get an A on the test. You don't even have to read the book!! what else can you ask for?! Really recommend her.

she doesn't teach bio111. she hates it. i can't believe some of the people are giving her bad ratings. she is the easiest easiest teacher i ever had. you cant fail this class because shes too easy, if you failed, then your just slow and dumb. even though she has an ancent, you could still understand her. highly recommend her if you want an A in bio
AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love her, she makes BIO112 so easy to understand. just go to all her classes and you'll be OK..and yea remember to write her notes down that she gives you because they are the mirrors of her exams. I wish all bio teachers were as dedicated and clear as her.. god bless her
she was very nice although, her lectures were pretty boring. it was hard to stay focused because it seemed she almost read right out of the text book. overall, the class wasnt very difficult and she does try to offer help for the students.
She is awesome...I really had no interest in taking BIO112 before going to her class, I had to because it is a prerequisite, now that I am in her class I absolutely love her. If you take the time to review her lectures things are pretty much as she says it. She also explains things the way anyone who doesn't have a Bio background can understand.
If you want to be lazy dont take her she explains okay... but for her test and quizzes you really have to study
Good professor, not too hard, not too easy. Gives fair grades.
She is very helpful.
She skips around just a little too much. And honestly she's very judgemental and has her favorites which isn't right at all. She can really be cold at times. She's always giving crazy assignments and isn't too consistent.. I wish I never took her. You guys who like her must be one of her favorites.
She skips around in lecture a little too much. She can also be very judgemental. She's not really consistend and gives you crazy assignments out of no where. She also has favorites which isn't fair. For everyone who like her you guys must of been one of her favorites. I don't regret anything in life but taking this teacher!!!!!!!!
She is a very nice caring professor. She was extremely helpful and cared about people. I needed help and she sat there with me and went over it if I had any questions. I took this first at another college and she is nothing like my first professor. I dont know what people are thinking when they say shes not a good professor. I recommend her 100%.
I dont get the good ratings either. She IS a nice person but her tests are crazy we dont evn review for them she skips arnd SO much that u nevr kno wat to study theres like a quiz everyday and everyone fails the lab practical. she offers absolutely NOTHING to get ur grade up & her notes are nothing but transparencies Tables
Talks very fast with an accent, teaches from transparencies taken directly out of the book. Five page paper, presentation, and three lab reports within three weeks. Terrible grading system. The paper, presentation, reports and all other homework is only 100 points. The rest of the 500 points is all based on exams and quizzes.
She's pretty nice, the course isn't easy but she makes it a bit easier. For lectures, she gives handouts and goes over what you need to know so GO TO CLASS! You gotta go to every lab cuz there's a quiz every lab.
She seems out to get me... if you don't show up to some of her classes, she's just plain MEAN and doesn't let you (or the rest of the class) forget that you are falling behind! She's not discrete in any way.
nice lady but unorganized
Had her for A&P 2. I loved her! Wish I had her for A&P 1. Yes, it's a difficult class but she tries to make it as easy as possible for you to do well. She really cares about her students and wants them to do well. She gives out study guides so there's no surprises on tests. Her lab quizzes are not difficult at all as long as you study. Take her!
Great teacher--wish she was doing bio 2 also! Will repeat any info and make sure you understand it fully before moving on. Always welcomes questions. Sometimes incomprehensible, but she tries hard. No real need to read the book, just go to class, pay attention, take good notes. Lots of quizzes and hw to boost grade!
Professor Kanwal is Great. One of the best professors I have ever taken. Very nice, sets her criterias very clearly and if met you get an A. Def. take her if you have the chance to.
professor is alright i wouldnt say she is the best or easy. She is very unorganized and doesn't know how to manage time correctly. She seems distracted and confused and attendence is MANDATORY if you dont show up the next day she will put you on the spot.
Ok I'm going to be honest. Her teaching methods are horrible. She reads straight from the power point slide and does not give time for you to copy. So you are left to teach yorself a lot. Her test aren't hard. She does have favorites and if you are not one of them she will let you know. So if you take her just ask a lot of questions.
Professor Kanwal was a great professor. I did not like Bio before going to her class but now I find it to be very interesting. Everything is based on a point level system and as long as you attend class everyday you should be fine. She is helpful and tries to explain everything. Book is mandatory.
I disagree with all of you out there who are giving this Prof. good ratings. I could have done better than the B grade I got and I attribute it to her accent. its very difficult to understand her hence making it impossible to take notes. Most of what she says in class find their way in the test so if you cannot take notes, don't expect to do well
She a kind and helpful professor. I really enjoyed having her. She does tend to go through things very fast which causes you to have to go back and teach yourself. Yes she has an accent and sometimes you might misunderstand but if you have half a brain and study the chapters especially key terms you should be able to know what shes talking about.
Do not do the powerpoint and essay on diseases/genetic mutations. Turns out in the end to be worth only 4% of grade. She is a nice professor and asks about your day. She lets you use notecards on tests but the majority of the notes aren;t on the test at all. :(
Even if you put 100 percent effort into this class you will still get a bad grade because she makes it impossible to do well. She is so unclear and even if you ask her 100 times she just gets annoyed. She is a horrible teacher!!! Worst at MCC.
I love her! Her tests mostly have questions where the wrong answers are ridiculous. To fail this class you have to not study at all, it's too funny to see people complaining if you know what she's actually like. She's also really blunt, she loves to announce to the class who does well and who is doing poorly. Don't fail cuz she'll embarass you.
Prof. Kanwal is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about the subject and really cares if you understand the material. There's a lot of quizzes and they can be a little confusing at times but, if you pay attention and use the online tools you'll be fine. Yea she has a thick accent but she has no problem repeating something if it's unclear. Had her SM got an A!
She is a nice lady and knows what she is teaching very well. She helps her students very much, but most of her lectures are on power points, which made me fall asleep a lot of times. I like things moving on the black board, but that is just me...
Professor Kanwal is very knowledgable and has a unique was of explaining things. I absolutely loved her class and thought she was more than helpful. Her exams are difficult but if you put effort into her class, you will suceed.
Dr. Kanwal is genuinely caring and pleasant, and always calm no matter what craziness is happening. She helped me get an internship at Robert Wood for independent study (they said it was mainly based on her recommendation). If you're a bio major, she is someone at MCC whom you want to get to know and impress, trust me!
She is the best bio professor in MCC hands down. What separates her from other professors is that she doesn't give up until you learn and she doesn't make you feel bad about it. She is extremely knowledgeable and excellent teacher. There isn't enough word limit to write everything about her but the bottom line you MUST take her.
She was a sweet lady, but I personally didn't like the way she taught. Her accent would sometimes confuse me, but I still tried to go along with her. She always repeated what was on the slideshows, and didn't really teach anything. Study the slideshows in order to pass the tests.
Excellent professor, very helpful and smart. Will help and teach you a lot. Just do your work, study and do NOT miss any classes!!! Loved her...do yourself a favor and TAKE HER!!!
Really good professor and really easy to talk to. Took her in the summer and she made the class enjoyable. Take her if you can but she only teaches bio 2 in the summer.
She has an accent but it's not impossible to understand her. She goes through everything quick but she does teach well. She's strict on cellphones, attendance, and labs. There's no way to really pass the tests if you don't study. I like her and her grading system. She gives enough easy work to help counterbalance bad test grades. Good prof overall.
She is very hard. Mad me really hate biology and i'm a bio. mayjor! she was hard to unerstand and mad things rather difficult. she quizes like crazy so be for warned. read the book! Study hard! i tried my best but just couldn't handle the grading curve. good luck to anyone that goes into her class.
I had her and she really isn't bad. I actually enjoy her teaching method and gives you a lot of chances to get an A in her class even if you fail quizzes. She might say drop the class but thats only cuz she rather you drop the class then bring down your GPA. Go to her classes cuz you fall behind. Always willing 2 answer questions and repeat things.
she is the best bio prof at mcc. very helpful, always available during office hours and really a sweet lady.. pay attentions to what she writes on board and take notes.. do online hw
AMAZING. If you wanna learn and do good in general bio, take her. Very clear and very nice. Come to every class and study for exams and quizzes (almost every week in lab and every chapter for lecture). Stay on top of your work and you will do well.
She is aright, but if you take this course you have to study atleast 4 hours a day, no lie. This class is very hard and needs time commitment and if you don't you will fail or get a low grade in the class. I didnt put much time and failed. She is a good teacher though and it was my own fault I failed. I would recommend her but actually study.
She's a VERY helpful professor and is on a mission to ensure that every single student understands the content she teaches. Not sure how this will help us in a 4-year school, but I definitely learned a lot from her in regards to Biology 1.
If you want to spend 3 months hearing this professor read words from power-point presentations and instructions from the lab Manuel (found in shared files or read before class ) than take her class and struggle to stay awake while her driveling voice pours over you in the dark for what will seem like eons. The material was worth it, she was not.
Professor Kanwal is one of the best that I've had. Great person, helps students and the course is very manageable.
she is the best bio professor at mcc, she quives quiz at every lecture, but if you paid attension to everything she says they are an easy A.
Best biology teacher EVER! I love her to death! She is the sweetest lady and if you try you will pass with an easy A
She wants more than anything for her students to know this material inside and out. You have to be honest with yourself and what you do and do not know. If you work and participate you'll know this stuff beyond the final, which is what counts.
Professor Kanal goes above and beyond to make sure you understand everything. Took her for bio 123 and 124 and don't regret it at all. Her tests and quizzes are right out of the powerpoints she goes over in class. As long as you put in effort and go to class, you'll get an A.
Reads strictly off powerpoints, they're quizzes after each lab and sometimes lecture. She does not teach the material unless its too complex to fit the powerpoint then she shows it on the board with very poor handwriting. Overall its an easy grade but be prepared to self teach and study.
She actually cares about if you learn the material or not. The class itself is kinda tough but if you study weekly you should be fine. I crammed at the last minute and did decent on most exams so studying throughout the semester should be fine.
Professor Kanwal is one of those professors who is really out to help her students. She gives her students the feeling that she is ALWAYS accessible and there to help and, well, she is! I've wondered several times if she has a cot somewhere on campus. Show up and pay attention and you'll be fine. Why enroll if you planned on doing anything else?
Professor Kanwal is hands down the best Professor. I took her for General Biology 1 & 2 and I am also in her Biology research class. She gives connect homework for every chapter but it is exact pictures and questions from her PowerPoints. Tests are very straight to the point and there are quizzes before every lecture and lab but they are easy 100s!
She is amazing. If you have the chance to be in her class, do it. I had a professor before her who didn't care about whether his students passed or failed. She's funny, very knowledgeable, and explains concepts very clearly. She cares about all her students and wants you to succeed.
Prof. Kanwal is a great professor to learn from! Coming from a non-STEM major I appreciated how she breaks down core concepts in a way most can understand. I would recommend going to every class session because you may miss crucial information that is vital, making the difference between a B and an A.
This lady is nice but she doesn't know how to answer a question is being asked, most of the time her answers include will learn about this in the next chapter and you never do, her grading system is sort of difficult , she is unorganized
Overall at the end I was able to get my A grade but I literally had to work for it she seems confusing when questions being asked only answer will be you will abot this in the next chapter. She respects her students and demands the same in returned sometimes she will pick on a specific student make sure you ask question about hw, upcoming quizzes.
Professor Kanwal is the best teacher to take for this class. If you do the work, then you will be fine. If you don't understand something she will keep explaining it to you until you understand it. Her tests aren't hard. She is very nice and caring. I would take this professor again.
Worst professor ever! Make sure you study hard in her class.
Kanwal is very kind. She lets you know what you need to know. Her quizzes are mostly 10 multiple choice questions . She lets you know what to study. Recommend printing the power points. If you fall behind a little, you might have to self teach yourself. But you will get back up! No HW assignments with an exception of maybe 2. Just do the work!
She is a caring professor but her methods were not great. She gave a quiz almost every class and her exams were tough. Her lectures were pretty much just a summary of what you needed to go home and teach yourself. You needed to read the entire chapter and know it really well for the exam to pass. She assigned a lot of time consuming homework.
This professor was very caring and will tell you what to focus on in lecture. She WANTS you to pass. She will tell you what you need to know. Look, it's Anatomy - it's a hard subject that you HAVE to study for. This professor was truly a gem and I'm grateful to have had her for a majority of Anatomy II.
Wonderful professor really cares- so sincere and genuine she is there for the right reasons. Shell work with you and afford you all the help you need give her the respect she deserves
She is nicest professor for Bio at Middlesex.
Awesome professor! Shes so caring and understanding.
Super passionate about what she does and really cares for her students. In the lab she gives a 10 question quiz every class so take notes. She gives a lot of online work thats about 100 questions per assignment. You don't really have to read the book because everything on the test is on the slides which she will post to canvas.
Truly the best professor I've ever taken. Kanwal is so knowledgable, well spoken, and makes concepts easy to understand. She repeats and works with the material in class to really get it engrained into your head. Her method of teaching saved me so much study time. Her exams were fair and to the point. Easy A would totally recommend for gen bio.
Could not have been a worse professor. Very Passive and Sarcastic. Does not like to Help students out and expects students to know everything the first time she teaches it. Moves way too fast. Piles Work up. She is inefficient in explaining material. Definitely will not be taking her for Bio 2. I wouldnt Recommend her AT ALL
Professor Kanwal is not the easiest professor, but she tells you exactly what you need to know for tests and quizzes. She always wants to help and explain more if you need. She gives a lot of lab and lecture quizzes. During the Covid 19 pandemic she was very sweet and tried to make things easier for us so for that I have a lot of respect for her!
Due to covid19 pandemic all classes were remotely. She was very helpful and supportive. If you miss a assignment she will give you extra time. She gives a lot of quizzes. So pay attention during the class. The hardest part about her class is the lab exam. If you come to the class and focus. You can pass with easy A. Recommend taking her!
Dr. Kanwal, wants you to learn. I took her during the summer. You will work for your grade. I studied ALL THE TIME, I repeat ALL THE TIME!!! I earned that A. This is not an easy A. Her test are a difficult, power points are a lot to study as well. If your up for the challenge and want to learn take her. Looking for an easy A take someone else.
Professor Kanwal is a solid choice! She wants you to learn and understand Biology. She isn't out here to trick you or fool you. She sometimes can rub you off the wrong way but she's always there to listen to you. Her tests are based off her notes, but also the textbook (don't forget that). Make a tight group in your bio class and you'll pass!
I took the class online. Each week we had to complete a lab, lab quiz, and assignments. It wasn't bad or too much. The labs were not too hard and you could do them on your own. Overall, it was a decent class. She also uploaded short powerpoints that were helpful.
There's like a quiz and lab every week. The midterm and final exam are done with lockdown browser and respondus so you are being watched. Even though there's a lot of work, she provides the information and tools for you to succeed. Good communicating, respectful, caring and overall a great professor that knows what she is talking about.
Since English is my second language, studying biology was a challenge for me, but it was a little easier with Prof. Kanwal. She structured the course very clearly, but yes, you have to study to pass this course
There is a lot of work to do, it might be spread out more during the regular semester but the winter semester had 10-15 assignments due every Saturday. She tries to help out as much as she can but her instructions are pretty clear to begin with. There is an online textbook that she provided for the class. Tests weren't that hard.
Professor Kanwal is by far one of the best professors at MCC. The course is really heavy and exams can be tough, and she might go a little too fast in class. But she is very understanding and deeply cares about her students and tries to make the classroom a good environment for everyone. Do yourself a favor and take her class!
Study study study study study study study study study study study study! lots of reading
LOTS of reading! Usually quizzes every week, most of the work is due on either Friday or Sunday of each week. Make sure you take good notes for each chapter to help you study better (you will need them)!!
Lockdown browser. I received an A+ in chem, in person paper exams. I couldn't and wouldn't cheat on an exam. Lockdown browser for an online course is an invasion of privacy, my webcam stays covered when in my home. This isn't about academic integrity but it's uncomfortable to know someone is watching and hearing you at home and I don't live alone.
I am not sure about the in-person classes, but I did not particularly like the online class. Some of the assignments were not clear, and there was not enough feedback.
During the full semester, there was usually one lecture and one lab per week, along with a lecture and lab quiz. Finding time to complete these assignments was not hard, especially since I have a full time job and take three other classes. I would not take this class during the winter/summer. Study for the midterm/final and you should be fine.
The only part of Dr. Kanwal's class that uses lockdown browser is for the midterm and final. The rest of the class is normal. I did not find it too invasive as I tilted the camera away from me and only showed the top portion of my head, which the robot did not have any concerns with. Please study for the midterm and final!!!
Clearly prioritized forming bonds with students who've taken A&P before since she used to teach that course instead of letting the rest join in on convos; her lectures were useless and didn't really help and test questions were worded weirdly. Overall, she was okay I guess, but being in her class felt like I didn't mattered and only some did.
She's Amazing! She cares deeply about her students and genuinely wants them to succeed. As long as you take good notes and study (a lot), you should be ok. Attendance not mandatory but definitely needed to pass since she covers a lot. No study guides but she clearly says what is and isn't going to be on exams. 3 exams, 2 practicals and no final.
Mostly consists of discussion boards, labs + the assignments with them, and lab tests. It's not hard tho. Final and midterm are on lockdown browser, I didnt do great on either and still passed with an A. Just complete the rest of your assignments and youre good.
She may be nice to others, but that wasn't my experience. Her email responses were vague and unhelpful, and she always took points off labs without feedback. Directions were sometimes unclear, and if you misunderstood, she'd just say, "It's too late, can't resubmit" The work isn't hard, but I wouldn't recommend her unless you have no other option.
Professor Kanwal's BIO123 class is challenging but rewarding. Lots of reading and weekly quizzes, so staying organized is key. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for study prep. Worth taking if you're ready to put in the work.
I took her for gen bio 1&2. She is a very good person and she really cares abt her students. However, I found her bio1 class unreasonable. Barely had time to study for her very detailed exams bc she gave sm hw!! Her exams were not based on the ppts but the textbook. Bio2 was a lot easier and based exactly on the ppts tho. Take her bio2, avoid bio1!
The course was okay overall. I liked that it was asynchronous and easy to follow. The ability to retake tests was helpful for improving grades, but some test questions were too specific. The midterms and finals were a bit too long, and I'd have appreciated more feedback on assignments. It's manageable but could use a bit of improvement.
I took her for BIO 2 and I really enjoyed her course! The content was easy to digest and her lectures are interesting. She's a very nice person and quite reasonable with grading as well. I would definitely recommend taking her as this course is a bit content heavy but if you study the slides, there's no reason you wouldn't pass with a good grade!
I wouldn't wish this class/prof on my worst enemy. Condensed a 14 week class into 7 weeks by giving 2 weeks worth of classes in one week.. and I mean I had 2 chapters (one with 2 sections, one with 6 sections) 10 assignments, 2 labs, 4 quizzes, and 2 lockdown browser exams due 4 days after the class even became available. Withdrew first day!
It was the most disorganized and rushed class I have ever taken. She rushed through the material to the point we finished two weeks early in the semester. We would do lecture on lab days after we finished lab. There was no room to breathe, and it left us all extremely burnt out. You're better off taking someone else if you want to enjoy biology.
