for social psych, he's not bad. quizzes every week and weekly written assignments make the class lighter than most. but his attitude, especially at the begining of class is quite off putting. i've heard horror stories about his history and systems class which i will avoid taking
Comes on strong at the beginning, but is a pretty nice guy. You earn your grade in his class. Effective professor. Enjoys the subject matter. Fun experience.
history and systems, he creates fear in the students and continues to do this for about half of the meeting dates. he is very passionate and earnest in his job. i believe he has a genuine desire to better the education process here. but i dont agree w/ his methods
Nice professor. Some people think he's intimidating, but he's just got a strong vibe. Makes the class interesting. Very verbal and expects class participation.
I have so much respect for Dr. Adams. My first semester here I had him for History & Systems and he was so intimidating. The class really got me in gear and I learned a lot. Social Psy has a quiz every week which I found difficult and required much more effort than I expected. I really admire him.

Dr. Adams has a plurlistic ignorance when it comes to social psychology. He takes everything personal. He is rude, arrogant, and does not have any tact when he is talking to people. Make sure you bring something to read because he is boring and likes to hear himself talk. Lastly, make sure you bring something to entertain yourself. For if you leah
Don't just memorize... understand.
Why is no one saying the obvious? He's hard on his students because he cares so much. I really think in any other university professors wouldn't have given us such a break and its good that he gives us a little taste of reality. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!
A great and challenging professor. Very interesting and loves his work. Great at Tai Chi!
I had a really bad encounter with this professor...I found him to be really difficult to work with and not very professional

I don't care what anyone else says, Dr. Adams is great, he is brilliant and knows his stuff. Dr. Adams aside from brilliance he posseses great attititude towards life and school. Dr. Adams is not just a great professor, he is HOT!!!! and I mean HOT!!
i found adams very difficult to deal with one on one. not helpful at all if you are having problems with the class. wont look you in the eyes when he talks with you and always walks around campus looking pissed off. it's an interesting class but adams makes everything harder than necessary.
I would have to agree that Dr. Adams is not easy, but he makes you work hard. He teaches you to look within yourself to find answers which create more questions. I have found him to always be helpful, professional, and highly knowledgable within his field.
His bark is worse than his bite. He's a great teacher and gives his time to those that put in the time. if he is a bit cold to you, work harder and he warms up. He has great passion and interest but he's not easy.
the class is definitely difficult and the tests are the hardest part. but dr. adams is a great teacher and he genuinely cares about his students. he does take some time to get used to but he's definitely worth it once you get to know him.

He really helped me and this class is easier than 310. He has the passion and belief in people. Very inspiring
Needs to improve!
Needs to improve!
This professor will not baby you so if you want an easy A don't enroll in his class. He is very engaging and will always offer help. He is clear and to the pointof what he expects, and will push you harder than yopu can believe because he believes in you. I will miss him......
Lectures were entertaining at times. He gave ambiguous instructions and then would not respond reportedly to many students' emailed or verbal questions during class. In fact, when someone attempted to have an error to the syllabus clarified he punitively added a page to the related assignment for the entire class. He has some control issues.
GREAT TEACHER. Honestly, Dr. Adams is a great teacher. He works really hard for his students and helps out in any way he can. He can be hard to get a hold of at times, but that doesn't change his love for psychology and his students. GREAT TEACHER.
He is quite friendly, but does not explain clearly.
he's hard to get ahold of and will be upset if you challenge anything you say. He's a nice guy, but is extremely inconsistent in his instructions. if you HAVE to take his classes, follow APA format to the T for papers or he will grade you poorly. don't be late he'll be pissed. Does not respond to e-mail.
I heard a lot of horror stories before I had this class, but he does motivate you to improve yourself academically and personally IN class. Not very approachable outside of class and not very professional. Does not listen to anything you have to say outside of class. Take his class only if you absolutely have to.
Dr. Adams is very knowledgeable of his subject. He has worked very hard to earn his degree and often times rubs it in the face of his students that he becomes VERY ofended when referred to as Mr. Adams. Understandably so, despite his years of wisdom he often times does not offer to help out side of class and also become offended when challenged. Dr

not a nice man
His classes are very interesting and the work is very difficult. He DOES make himself available outside of class but you have to hound him into an appointment. He will also be glad to talk to you after class. He is a very kind, big hearted, and helpful professor. He pushes you to your limits but it is worth it in the end. He is one of my role models.
I LOVE DR. ADAMS!!!!!!!!!!
One of my least favorite teachers at CSUCI
Hardest class I have ever had. That said, Dr. Adams is also one of the best teachers here. He has an awesome personality. If you talk to him, he is VERY motivational. Tests are HARD, you must read the text and attend all classes. He is a great person to talk to, he really knows his stuff. You can tell he loves his job.
on a high horse.
Just because he is hard doesn't mean he isn't one of the best teachers on campus. You will come out with knowing more with a low grade in his class than you would a high grade from another class. Read the book, print his notes (a wrist saver) and listen to his stories. Nothing is without a point and you will learn a lot in his class. He is awesome.
Good guy, just not the easiest to get along with. I had no problems with him, did the work and got the A, for both social psych and History and systems
WAS NOT PREPARED FOR LECTURES
Dr. Adams is a great teacher. He expects a lot out of you, but he does so to prepare you for the big leagues. He is INCREDIBLY entertaining. His lectures are disjointed, erratic, distracted, and sometimes very short, but they are always fun. Overall, I'd say Adams is a great professor for those who are serious about their education.
Yeah! he is easy if your a female. He flirts and gives better grades to girls that suck up 2 him. I went to his office and he shut the door on me because he was on the phone. He dsnt care about students!!!!He sucks!!! Dnt take him guys!!!!
Adams definitely kicked our butt yet he also taught us a lot. I'd take him for that reason alone. By the way, I'm a guy and I didn't have any problems when I went to his office!!!
I enjoyed the lectures. If you have an interest and are diligent in asking questions and involved in discussions, the classes are fun! He's a really cool guy. Gets off topic often, but always good information. YOU MUST READ to do well. The lectures won't save you!
He is a great lecturer...very entertaining and has great stories. He is difficult. You must read over the material and take notes as you read. The tests are hard, but they get easier. Make sure you do the paper in perfect APA format and you're fine. If you have too take him..don't worry. Not as terrible as you have heard.
took him for PSYCH 312 also which is a much better class. for history and systems he seems as lost as we are but he will answer any of your questions. some advice-- read your book, study way ahead of time for the test and go see him during office hours-he's got a soft spot for people he knows
He is extremely hard but in the end if you need help he is willing to do whatever it takes to help you move along. I found that he does care about his students even though he is really full of himself! Could be considered more than inappropriate in conversation with female students but he's a single man with a PhD and in his world he's everything!
He is very dedicated to his work. I enjoyed his lectures.
If you plan to ever go on to grad school, you will be thankful to have taken Dr. Adams' class. Yes, he is very tough, arrogant, and an A is difficult to get in his class, but he really challenges his students to be better.
Dr. Adams is not as awful as everyone thinks. His class is tough, but he makes it very clear what he expects from his students. His lectures are entertaining because he doesn't dryly read from a powerpoint. Anyone who dislikes him so much was clearly looking for an easy A and he will not do that for you. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. he is helpful!!!
IMO Adams needs to improve in lecture style, preparation for class, clarity, affect, helpfulness, approachableness, grading of assignments, & treating students with respect & dignity. IMO CSUCI would be better served if he was transferred to custodial duties until he improved himself.
For social psychology the lectures were interesting, but test were more related to the text. Dr. Adams makes the class interesting and funny. Always encourages you to see him outside of class for any help you may need. In my opinion, the students that have bad comments for this particular class were just not willing to do the work.
I took Professor Adams for History and Systems. After reading the reviews of him on here, I was scared to death! But after taking the class, I realize, he's not that bad! Sure you have to put in some work to the class, but if you do, an A is do-able. Spend some time reading, and preparing your final paper, and you'll pass the class with ease.
Although I got an A in History & Systems, I worked for it. It wasnt easy. Adams is arrogant, disregards opinions and unless he thinks youre hot, he wont listen to you. He makes it clear he has "tenure" so it doesnt matter what you say or think. Clear on what he expects but dont expect much from him. Needs much improvement in social & people skills.
After reading his reveiws and listening to other people, i was not a fan of starting but now that i am in the class i really enjoy it. he is a tough teacher, expects you to read and wont hand you a grade you dont earn.read, get the paper in early so he can review it and help improve it.keep up on your weekly tests.he is vibrant and knows his stuff.i
Simply put, you will not pass the class if you do not dedicate 3+ hours towards studying. Weekly Exams are hard and he expects you to know the answers off hand (1-2min per question).Don?t hesitate to ask him for help he will make time to see you! He's cool, smart, funny, and upfront!Oh and READ before class he will put you on the spot and ask!!!
The people on here complaining about him are the people probably didn't do anything an expected an easy A. He expects a lot out of you and if you are not willing to deliver 100% then don't waste his or your time. But he his MORE than willing to help out if you need it.
Dr. Adams is a big teddy bear in disguise! Don't be intimidated by him. Just do all of the reading (like you should anyway...you are in college) and come to class and you are sure to get an A.
I disliked Dr. Adams, his unprofessional demeanor, and his class when I was at CI (annnndddd I AM AN A-student who went on to an ivy league graduate school). He treated me poorly and he constantly shut me down when I commented in class. His hist and sys. class can't be avoided, but don't let him get you down, his comments mean nothing in the end.
Tough paper but not impossible. He made history and systems as interesting as possible. He likes to scare you about the paper but if you put the time in and follow APA format, you'll be fine. Don't think that online tests are easy, cuz they're definitely not... Especially when timed! The final was optional... A definite plus!
The class is not very difficult as long as you do the assignments every week. He does not teach anything in class that is on the tests so you could basically skip the lectures and get as good of a grade but attendance is mandatory. His views are quite liberal so don't mention any opposing viewpoints or he will shut you down. Pretty big ego.
Classes are fun to attend because he tells funny stories, but because he requires that you complete every quiz and every diary or you wont pass his class I feel he should have those items open online to be completed at 'own pace' since even missing 1 is a fail. You can be an A+ student and get sick and miss 1 quiz and you fail the class. Not good!
I did all the work & extra credit except I missed 1 of the quizzes. There is 1 quiz per week & 1 diary per week; 1st day of class he says: You have to do every quiz & every diary or you FAIL. He wasn't joking. Even though I did all my other work and the extra credit assignments & loved the class-I still failed because I missed 1 quiz.
People like to hate on Dr. Adams but I honestly don't get it. If you are taking care of your business you will easily pass his class. Not only does he give you fair warning about missing quizes and diaries, he gives you an opportunity to make it up. You have to be seriously challenged to think this class is hard. Buck up and do the work.
Easy A. I love Adams. He could not have made the class any easier, and could not have been any clearer. The paper is easy. No homework. Easy quizzes, open-book/note. Adams gives so many chances to succeed. You would have to be challenged not to pass!!!!
Dr. Adams is more than amazing..he is the BEST Professor I have ever had! He is incredibly helpful--everyone should be required to take this class, and especially with HIM! I urge you to take this class! You must read and attend lecture! Weekly quizzes, timed, no back button once you move forward. Lectures are honestly so entertaining and relevant!
Best professor at Csuci. Hands down. If you don't like him it's because you like to take the easy way through college. The people that find him difficult are the lazy ones. He's very helpful if you reach out to him.
Stay out from under his radar. I have seen him pick on people in class, humiliate them, or put them down, he thinks it is funny. It's not. He's not fair. A friend of mine did all of her work in his class and he still failed her, ask for a recommendation and he will shoot you down too if he doesn't like you. Not cool. I'll never take him again.
Basically if you sit in his class and don't ever participate and he doesn't know who you are, and do the work you'll get an "A" but if you're like me and very smart, point out his errors, speak up and answer all the questions correctly and he feels you're trying to challenge him, he will do everything possible to flunk you. His ego is huge.
This is a hard class and the subject is tough. Exams are mostly online but not easy. One research paper which seems impossible to complete but it isn't to bad if you don't wait until the end of the semester to do it. Adams may seem mean but he really isn't. He is a great professor. I would definitely take another class with him.
This class is a necessary pain. Work on the paper and study for the inclass exams. The extra credit is a must and show up at class.
Dr Adams is a nightmare for serious students. Lectures consist of verbatim ppt readings and irrelevant tangents. Regards older, unattractive, and male students with noticeably less favor. He was only hard in the sense that he sabotaged people's grades with his poor communication. No idea how he got his position as a professor, let alone the chair.
Make sure to attend class. This class is disorganized and lacks structure but if you stay on top of assignments you're fine. Do the final paper in APA format to the t and you will get an A. Study for in class tests because they weigh more than online. Did well on in class tests and paper and got an A- even though I didn't do well on online tests.
Fantastic Professor. Be on time, be thoughtful of your classmates, make a study group, and be in touch with Professor Adams - follow up with him if you have questions and do NOT be intimidated. Truly a fantastic professor. You will leave his class feeling as though you truly learned something of value.
Dr. Adams is awesome. It is important to go to class and visit him during office hours. Dr. Adams actually want his class to succeed but you have to put in the work (i.e. read, take notes, study at least 30 min/day).
Dr. Adams will make you work for your grade but he is fantastic if you are willing to approach him. Visit him during his office hours, ask questions, and most importantly- care. If you care, it shows, and he will reveal that he cares and is willing to be supportive.
Not helpful, does not lecture on relevant material. More focused on inspirational speaking rather than lecture.
This class is hard, but worth it. When he tells you to get help from him, he means it. His paper is the hardest thing I've ever done, but I was happy to have the challenge. Lectures are worth listening to. Not read straight from the book. Despite his eccentricity, I would have taken another class with him.
Dr. Adams is very funny and tells relevant stories to supplement his lecture, but attending class feels pointless bc lecture barely covers what u need to know. read the chapters till you feel confident. a diary and quiz every week, miss one and you fail. They are very easy. Make sure you go because he will do random attendance. ends class early 2
He changes his curriculum every semester so you may not have the same experience. We had 4 tests that were straight out of the book, one of which was a take home. Memorize the vocab at the end of each chapter. There are also online quizzes which are the toughest part of the class along with the paper. Make sure to read.
Don't expect to walk into Dr. Adams' class and expect your grade to be handed to you. He will make you work for your grade which apparently most people don't want to do anymore. I have taken him for two semesters now and have had no problems. He is always willing to help as long as you go to him!
It isn't often I dislike a professor this strongly. Tells unrelated, pointless stories instead of teaching needed material. Intentionally confuses students. Makes tests harder than they should be. Gives annoying assignments that don't help you learn the material but just becomes a waste of time that is necessary to pass the class. Study the book.
I think he is a good professor. If you don't do the all the quizzes and journals you will fail the class automatically. READ the chapters before class. It's on the test! He gives extra credit that are easy and really motivates you to DO YOUR WORK. IF YOU DO THE WORK you will be fine.
Worst class I've ever taken. Dreadful! I wish I took it with Dr. Grey! I got a C in this class and believe me, I STUDIED!!!
He makes you work for it,but you have to work for things in life I do not know how he was in previous semester but for sure this semester Fall 2015,he was a reasonable, helped our grade by giving us extra credit opportunities when present in class, and best yet he helps you if you really ask for it No joke he helped me a lot, just ask and be competen
Dr Adams is quite intimidating the first day but hes actually very approachable and will work in your favor if you need anything. His lectures don't last very long, goes off on random topics. The book is a MUST! Use it for quizzes on every chp! No final. But a 5 page report. Not easy but earned an A! PUT IN WORK!
I'm not sure why he has a bad reputation, Dr. Adams is great. He's funny and his lectures are really short, we're always out early. Mandatory weekly quiz (mostly online) and diary but no final or papers. You have to read the chapter on your own though, his lectures don't cover much of the info. Go to his office hrs and he'll help you with anything
After the first few weeks it becomes very obvious he doesn't like the material. Class is really disorganized and often he'll just fly through slide shows because he doesn't feel like it and expects you did the reading. His final paper is a nightmare try to get started early even though it's like pulling teeth. Goes on tangents a lot during lecture.
Weekly journals and tests. You will FAIL if you don't complete every one. Lectures are pointless and consist of him telling loosely related stories. Absolutely doesn't teach the material. Read and re-read the book. Tests are stupid hard with little time to complete. Some tests online, some in class. Releases class early. Unclear and confusing.
Dr. Adams is a good professor. I took him for social psych. Be ready to read all the chapters and take a test weekly along with journal entries. If you do no read the chapters you will not pass the tests and chapters are long. Overall good teacher. All tests and journal entries are submitted online, but you must go to class to get assignments.
Put in the work. Subject is interesting and if you read the assigned chapters for the week and understand the subject, you'll get his examples. Weekly quiz/ diary assignment. Final is optional.
Never take this man. You will not do well. I have a 3.0 and above for ivy class in college so far, and this will be the first class I won't pass. Aside from being completely and utterly unorganized, he goes off on random tangents in class and ill flip through slides at lightning speed. DO NOT TAKE ADAMS EVER. I had him for 310 and it was bad
This is a class that you can take if you have no other classes. Too much work, sorry Virgil, you are funny sometimes during lecture, but as a course this is a joke. Going to be a large number of students not passing this year
He doesn't give stay guides when there is like 10 chapters on every test. He claims we won't learn, just regurgitate with study guides. Very, very untrue. Personally I learn and study more when I know what will be on the test, rather than not knowing what to study.
Psy 310 with Adams was the most disproportionate amount of work I had to do for a 3 cred class. This ratio of work and difficulty given versus effort actually put into teaching the course was one sided. Ignore his instruction and read the book to take his tests, AVOID HIS NIGHTMARE OF A SEMESTER LONG PAPER. DON'T TAKE HIM FOR THIS COURSE EVER!
Dr. Adams is a very funny professor. He is loud and energetic and is sure to keep you up during class. He went by very quickly in the lectures and always let us out early. In my opinion, he went through the material too quickly and skipped some. Make sure to read the book because most of the information on the tests is in the book.
The absolute worst Professor! Clearly doesnt know the material and only reads what is on pwr point. Never clearly elaborates on the material and wouldnt be able to pass his own test if he had to take himself! The project paper is ridiculous and tests are impossible with not enough time to finish. He enjoys making students suffer- do not take him!
Doesn't teach-be prepared to teach yourself-ridiculously hard tests-NO STUDY GUIDE-Belittles people who ask questions & usually answers w/I Don't know. He should know, has taught it for years but wants us to know it-Obviously doesn't want to be there or help a student succeed-Class out early but not informed-Take anyone else except this egomaniac!
His lectures made me want to bang my head into my desk. Just reads off of powerpoints and then goes off on tangents that don't have anything to do with the subject. Attendance isnt mandatory but he will randomly do a pop quiz or give out important info so its smart to go. Nightmare of a final paper.
Worst professor I have ever taken. His class is ridiculously hard and he doesn't even know the material. He's unprepared and reads off his slides and when students ask questions he says "I don't know, check the book." He spends a majority of class taking about himself and lets us out early every time. He clearly doesn't care for his students.
He should not be a professor. He does not care about his students and just likes to talk about himself. This is the most stressful course and I feel like he doesn't even know what he is teaching.
Unorganized, unhelpful, and excessive describes Dr. Adam's. Too much motivational speaking, not enough lecturing. Term paper is horrific and expect no support. No homework making the 20 extensive chapters hard to retain n understand. He is rude to students. Doesn't know how to use canvas. Provides bare min directions. Overall, awful n dont recomend
I feel that many people are over exaggerating just how horrible this class. It is true it is disorganized, the essay is absolute hell and he is somewhat unfair in grading. It also seems he does not know the material that well and his lectures are non helpful in the slightest. However, Adams is a nice, funny, and motivational guy.
Definitely makes you work! Memorize all the vocab in the back of the book to do ok on his exams, he takes quizzes from quizlet for online exams. Pointless term paper and he will not be much help, ask the librarian to look at it first. He makes you feel like you are stupid and wasting his time if you ask him questions after class. Intimidating
Virgil does not participate in teaching in any manner. His lectures are reading the text we read before arriving. Loves to talk about himself. I went into his office hours to ask for help he said i am not going to help, you figure it out. Loves to say he cares about students futures. But his lack of even trying to teach or help, proves otherwise.
I dont recommend taking Adams, this is the most ridiculous class I have ever taken. Lectures are pointless, all tests are straight from the book. You will use blue book for tests. You have to know all vocab at end of each chapter and memorize. 6-10 chapters every test. Paper is a nightmare and when students ask questions he makes them feel dumb.
Hands down the worst professor I've ever had, I should have listened to the warnings. Very egotistical and loves to brag about himself. He knows he makes tests too hard and doesn't care. Will belittle you if you are not up to his standard. If you have to take him, make sure you read the book.
Horrible teacher. You teach yourself by reading the book His lectures are not useful at all and I WOULD recommended not even going to class but he takes attendance randomly His test are so ridiculously hard and the questions on the tests never seem to correlate with what you just learned in the chapters. Avoid his classes like the plague!
By far the worst professor of my entire college career. Such a horrible professor and tries his hardest to be the most difficult professor on campus. he has no idea what he's even teaching, reads straight from the book, and is super disorganized in every aspect. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS, YOU WILL HATE YOUR LIFE.
Worst professor Ive ever had. DO NOT take any of his classes you will regret it
I wish I had used this website before taking this professor. I ended up with him for 2 of my classes and it was the hardest 2 classes I have ever taken in my life. He laughed when the average for the first test was a 40% and said that he knew it was hard. He gave us a cheat sheet for the next one and everyone still somehow failed. DON'T TAKE HIM
Dr. Adams is an intense guy, but he wants you to be successful. He is a little condescending, but do not be afraid of him he likes when people stick up for themselves. HIS TESTS ARE ONLY BASED ON THE READING. Study the book- youll be fine. If you don't like reading do not take the class. Have lunch with him and you'll see a different side of him.
Professor Adams can be an intense man, but he's very transparent and has high expectations of his students. Even with Covid and going online, he was willing to work with us and show that he cares for his students. He may come off as stiff, but under the shell he's a charismatic and funny man. Took him twice this semester and would do so again.
Tests are hard. They contain questions about percentages and stuff you wouldn't normally memorize. It was very hard for us to understand what he was trying to explain, and he had to repeat himself several times before we finally gave up and just helped each other. Lectures are boring, and he lacks passion. HORRIBLE!
DO NOT TAKE HIM! Normally, I am an A student, his tests are so hard and he is a really hard grader, I am not sure how I got a B after failing all the exams. He stresses that you show up even though it is online, but he never "showed up" when it came to grading, it took two months to get grades back. Honestly if possible, AVOID taking this class
Dr. Adams decided to make the class asynchronous after we all signed up for an synchronous course and takes forever to grade assignments. The first 8 or so weeks, we had no idea what our grade was as there were only a couple grades put in. His exams are extremely difficult and every 2 weeks consist of a diary, discussion board post, and exam.
This man shouldn't be a professor. His lectures are word-for-word repeats of the textbook and his tests asks insanely detailed, meaningless questions. He's always saying he doesn't want to give us a "crackerjack box education" while giving us exactly that. There is no real learning with him, just rote memorization in order to pass his tests.
Dr. Adams had no synchronous class. We only had prerecorded lectures, about 3 chapters to read per 2 weeks, and OCCASSIONALLY an UNRELATED paper or discussion. If you, like myself, find it hard to learn without a structured class meeting, do not choose Adams. Actually, just avoid him at all costs, trust me, my cohort agrees with me.
I took Adams online for 312, and this was my favorite class. After the first week he made all lectures pre-recorded which I liked because it gave wiggle room for other things in life. He is very straightforward and if you do the work on time as asked youll get full credit. The exams were easy enough and straight from lecture or the book He is10/10
HORRIBLE! He does not grade anything in a timely manner and his exams are hard. This professor does not assign assignments that are relevant to what we are learning. Also, he has very little sympathy for his students. You email him a concern about something and he responds like he does not care what you just said. Very unprofessional professor.
Only attended 2 of his classes at the beginning of the semester & I called it quits after I felt like I wasn't learning anything through them & stuck with the book. Tests are hard & timed. Assignment due dates were a bit all over the place but he made sure to be clear on that. Wish I could say more but if you end up taking this class, best of luck!
Worst Professor I have ever had. I have had straight A's in all my courses but he makes it impossible to get an A in his class. He rarely gives full credit on assignments and definitely not on papers even when I follow the rubric exactly but do not receive credit or an explanation. Lectures are pointless, test are straight from book.
This class was an easy A. Instructions were straight forward and assignments were incredibly easy to obtain full credit. Extra credit was available as well. Lectures can be repetitive from textbook and get off topic often. He gets frustrated easily but I don't blame him sometimes when he explains the directions over and over.
CI staff will tell you not to take him because of how rude and uncaring he is towards his stunts. He'll speak down to you when you ask a question and contradicts himself ALL THE TIME then gets mad when students show confusion. he should be fired but unfortunately he is already 10 yeared with CI.. big mistake on their end.. very disappointed in them
Too much homework and little feedback. As first time online students, this is a huge issue. He did have like 120 students, but the feedback was not there. It took him like a month 1/2 to grade assignments. His exams are timed and the questions are just way too long to answer on time. His lectures are dull and not really informative.
Where do I start? Grades unjustly. Doesn't follow his syllabus. WILL talk down to you if you have a question/comment. Disrespectful. Goes off topic. Textbook lectures, not insightful. Will fail you for 1 missing assignment even if you have an A/B. Not enough time on quizzes. Don't bother reaching out to the chair, Adams has tenure. AWFUL. BEWARE.
Good luck asking questions and getting a straight or even coherent answer. Why are people like him even teachers? CI is failing their students. He's disrespectful and an arrogant prof. Rambles most of the class time and accuses people of cheating constantly.I would take another prof. if you are interested in the subject or want to learn.
I would not take this class if I didnt have to. He gives exams with barely any time to answer and it is a stressful way to learn. He also complains about his job and isnt organized.
I didn't like that he didn't offer much time on test.Too much politics, He'd ask your opinion and then say it's wrong. The second time I took him, he was off. Really political this time, he rambled, his exams had very little time, he's organized. He also sent me a very rude and uncalled for email. Don't take him. I don't care how easy his class was.
He is authentic as a professor and challenges students to relate course concepts to their personal life experiences through weekly diary entry prompts. He gives three exams, and the final is optional. If you complete the work and submit it on time, you will succeed in his class. I would take another class taught by Dr. Adams if I wasn't graduating!
First time taking him, and was a decent professor who just wants to see you use your critical thinking skills. Assignment instructions can be vague, but always make sure you reach the minimum word count no matter what. Turn in ALL assignments ON TIME or he will fail you for missing just 1. There's 3 tests and an optional final.
Proff. Adams loves to present himself as a tough guy teacher, that is above all his students.. Most of his lectures turn into rants and gets off topic quickly. Proff. Adams will not grade anything that is not automatically graded by canvas until the last week . You will undoubtedly have to take him to get your degree, good luck.
I hope you are reading this you BUM . You are a disgrace to this institution, learn to manage your time and grade in a timely fashion . You are actively ruining the integrity of the psychology department and deserve disciplinary action . Respect your students WHO PAY YOU .
Worst professor ever. Passionless lectures. He lectures for 45 minutes and leaves even though it's a 3 hour class. Clearly there for a paycheck. Doesn't know how to work computers. You won't know your grade the whole semester. Talks down to his class. Good luck passing. Such a disgrace to the psychology department and to CSUCI.
As a professor at CSUCI, he is unprofessional, careless, and disorganized. He waited until the last few weeks of the semester to grade students' work accumulated from the beginning of the semester. He failed to share consistent feedback. Very subpar experience overall. Avoid if you value professionalism and detest mediocrity.
Very straight forward and expectations are clear. There is a lot of work to complete but if you pace yourself and work hard all will be well. Grades fairly, and expects all the work to be completed. He is a nice guy, and a good professor.
Class is usually ended early because students can "just read the powerpoint at home." This professor can be very defensive when students ask questions, so be aware of that. I found that his expectations were too high and that the class average was generally a C- or D+ on most assignments. Be aware of your GPA tanking after this.
Well, the first time I had ever cried over an email sent by a professor. To be fair, if you are good at getting everything in on time and give yourself enough time to study, then you will pass.
He definitely is tough but as long as you turn everything in on time you'll be fine. 3 exams, a position paper, but participation points make up majority of the grade. He does those points based off your homework assignments. He is fair but very lecture heavy, he tends to just read off his power points and not really add much.
He offers a lot of extra credit and is very fair with grading. He may seem rude and come off wrong but all that he says is real and he just wants to see students succeed. As long as you do your assignments on time, you will pass. He even gives extra credit on occasion just for showing up to class.
Taking professor Adams for social psychology was very easy. He gives clear instructions on what he expects as far as homework, diaries, and for extra credit. Its honestly an easy A. He may come off as intimidating at first, but overall he does want to help you succeed. As long as you put in your full effort, you will do well!
BEWARE! Why is he a teacher? One of the worst teachers I have ever had. I cried throughout the semester because of the way he talked/emailed me and unjust grading. He is rude/disrespectful. Takes forever to grade + leaves little to no comments. Just there for paycheck. Doesn't care about his students success or feelings. Why is CI keeping him?
Do not take his class! He is an example of the type of teacher I would not want to be or have again. He's rude, ungrateful, arrogant, thinks he is better than everyone else. Most importantly has no respect for his students. Grades unfairly, grades assignments extremely late and is super rude when talking to or emailing. Stay clear from him!
This class consisted of participation, discussions, quizzes, exams, and a paper. Quizzes and exams were a LOT of questions with limited time. But it's doable. He's a "all or nothing" grader meaning if you don't submit one assignment the whole semester he will fail you. Very specific grading criteria. Not the kindest person but tolerable if online.
I wanna start off by saying I wish I had listened to his rating on here & dropped his class as soon as possible. He's very rude and makes you feel dumb by asking him any questions/ for clarification on assignments. Also, his grade book did not make any sense with listing assignments with the wrong due dates and blames you. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES!!
Dr. Adams has no ability to communicate in a teaching capacity. He is rude and not helpful over email communication. He will be intentionally vague about assignment criteria and then mark you down when the assignments aren't "what he was looking for". If you can avoid him as a teacher, do so and save yourself the frustration.
Listen when I tell you, if you have ANY other options in professors, TAKE. SOMEONE. ELSE. His due dates were never posted correctly. If you were off by a couple words in word count, your grade suffers heavily. Lectures were more on his personal/ political life than material. Three hour class and stayed for 45 mins. Take ANYBODY else. Trust.
Virgil was the rudest, most anxiety-inducing, and exhausting Prof of my semester, do not make him yours. He likes to give very short time limits for quizzes and exams, with poorly worded trick questions, which cover some of the tiniest details within the book. Also, he has a policy where if one assignment is missed, you fail the course. 0/10
I took him because I had no choice but he's honestly not too rough if you can keep up with the work. The workload is a bit much but nothing that can be handled within a day. The tests are the only negative part in my opinion. The length-to-time ratio sucks, so just be prepared for that. Easy participation points for doing work on time.
His courses are not difficult, he is personally just incredibly demanding and unreasonable. He's a stickler for word count and will dock points even if you fall short by 10 words. His exams are insanely dense. 100 question tests with limited time. Would not recommend if you want a caring professor.
Incredibly rude. He will make very blunt and hurtful comments regarding your work and even comments about you as a person. Very disrespectful. Tests are not too tough, but soooo long (100 questions in 75 minutes, so less than a min per question). He assigned diaries twice a week, and they are 500 words or more. Lots of tedious work, not tough tho.
Exams are 100 questions with only 75 minutes to complete. Quizzes are designed in the same time fashion but with two attempts. If the second attempt is taken, you get an average of the two scores. Accuses you of cheating through zoom if you finish exams or quizzes too fast and threatens to fail and report you to the dean and department chair.
Assigns a paper about plagiarism and fails most of the students based off of APA structure. Accuses students of cheating if exams/quizzes are finished without using all of the given time. Lots of typos and misspelling in material.
if you like a lot of structure then stay. I had to drop his class because I found out that a girl who thought she had an A had a D at the end of the semester. He only allows 10 minutes on a 25 question true false quiz, and closes the grade book so you can't see your actual grade in the class. He doesn't grade stuff on time so you cant keep track.
Very rude. Only gives 10 minutes to take 25 minute test. Dropped class within the first three weeks. Would not recommend.
On the first day of his class I knew I had to drop him, he goes off on unrelated tangents like politics, he even told the class who to vote for (very unprofessional)!! He comes off as rude and he's very unorganized with canvas. The textbook for this class is $100-200!! Very expensive! Avoid this professor for your own mental health !!
Rude, condescending, unreasonable with test times and materials quizzed on. Tends to get extremely specific with wording in his quiz questions which is really unfair because by the time you understand what he's asking for in the quizzes you're already behind on time
Dr. Adams is great if you enjoy reading. However, his modules can be somewhat disorganized. His quizzes are quite challenging. He mainly reads his notes during lectures and doesn't provide clear instructions on what to do.
I wish I had read these reviews before taking this class all absolutely true. This professor just reads of his own slides with no additional info or insight, very harsh grader, rude, and likes jumping into political tangents often making bold claims. Definitely would not take again.
Worst professor I've ever had. Doesn't give enough time for tests. (ex: 100 questions in 50 minutes). He doesn't provide an in detail rubric. You could complete the assignments following instructions , but you won't get full credit unless you did more than what he said to do. He also says he doesn't want anyone to pass with an A. Wants you to fail.
Very hard grader, did not learn much from his class unfortunately.
Avoid him, very condescending and gives less than a minute per question on exams. Horrible professor.
Not good, not very accommodating/flexible. Tough grader, has been investigated for discrimination against DASS. If you have a crisis mid-semester, good luck. Less than a minute on each question for exams and weekly quizzes.
I took this professor's Hist and Systems of Psych at CSU Channel Islands. It was an online course. The lectures were pretty terrible. I can't rate the content itself because the audio was so poor, it was impossible to be fully engaged. There quizzes every week and several exams. The time limits were always way too short. I'll avoid him if possible.
I made the wise decision of dropping his class after 2 week last semester. Very Rude and condescending. Only give 10 minutes for 25 question true false quizzes. Would not Recommend.
He is very rude and unprofessional. You try to ask for assistance in bettering your papers and he just belittles you and makes you feel very low. Seems very unapproachable and instead of giving us examples, he tells us to run to Google.
Ridiculous grading (one late/missing assignment could = automatically failing the class). Goes on biased political tangents that have nothing to do with the lecture. Pompous, says he's the greatest professor on campus and directly references Rate My Professor and how he doesn't deserve his incredibly low score.
Genuinely this is a class I regret passionately and wish I had the foresight to check this website before enrolling. His grading system is something I have never seen before and it's unfair and obnoxious, being your final grade is your average grade, his true or false questions are incoherent, and his overall presence as a professor is nonexistent.
This is my first class at CSUCI that I am afraid of failing. Dr. Adams has unrealistic standards and docs points off for just about anything. You can't seem to make any slip-ups without your grade dropping significantly in this class. I have never been in a class where a professor grades so severely, especially for an online class. Do not take!
Dropped the class and reported him. He doesn't have announcements, classes run only half the time they should, political or offensive rants as well. Also, for a social psychology teacher he knows what he is doing when he asks loaded questions, as why would we disagree with someone standing in front of us who grades our papers? Please avoid!
I don't even know where to start, but the first thing is his ego!He has hidden assignments, with different due dates that the ones posted, he grades on participation as he see fits and lastly, his recorded videos have horrible sound quality. Has unrealistic expectations on for students. Would never want to take his class again or meet him in person
