its a big lecture so half the students don't show up and lecture slides are online, but SHOW UP FOR CLASS!!! he gives extra credit and test answers to people who go every week. his study guides are identical to exams and goes over guides. online hw is super easy to get 100% on everything. he is a good professor who does his job and is really nice!
I don't like Bio so I might have a bias, but I wasn't fond of Dr. Stoia at all. He was not understanding at all when I was going through rough times. He is rude to students and has weird rules about tests. Only good thing is that he goes over reviews in class. Go to class-You will pass.
Dr. Stoia is amazing. He is a super nice guy and is super helpful. Study guides are literally the test, and he goes over them in class. He also gives lots of extra credit! I highly recommend him.
This dude is awesome. He's pretty tough if you goof around in class, but otherwise he's like a sweet old grandpa. His study guides are the EXACT TEST and that's not an exaggeration. You don't even need to come to class if you just wanna google everything from the study guide later, but he'll like you a lot and give EC if you do show up every day.
He gives out review guides for the tests that are almost exact replicas of the test. Show up to class and pay attention in lecture, take notes and you'll be totally fine. He's a great Professor and has a lot of enthusiasm for the subject. He's extremely open to answering questions. I would take his class again in a heartbeat!
He typically lets everyone out after 45min/1hour. Attendance is totally optional, but he gives out TONS of extra credit for those who go, totaling up to about 40-50 points. His study guides are exact replicas of the tests. You can drop your lowest test or not take the final, your choice. If you don't have a BIO103 pre-req, take this as a gen-ed!
This class was extremely easy. Stoia is very courteous to students and expects the same in return. Professional but approachable. He's very kind, the grading is very clear. He gives some pop quizzes, sometimes for extra credit and sometimes not. The final was online. You CAN skip class, but you might miss points.
Virgil Stoia is a sweet old man, but can be very cranky. He will call on students during lecture, ask for their name, and ask them a random biology question. YOU DON'T NEED THE BIO BOOK. You only need the access code, trust me. If you take his Tue-Thurs class, he lets you out early nearly every class.
His lectures are long and drag on forever. He likes to get off topic and tell random stories that don't really connect to what we're learning. He offers take-home tests occasionally, but expect most tests in class. He posts all of his powerpoints to Blackboard so you should be able to pass.
Dr. Stoia is awesome. He will help you if you ask. There's no way you can fail his class unless you skip all the time. He'll give quizzes for e.c. in class but he'll tell you when & you do it together as a class. For the exams, he'll either give you the question or the answer choices as a study guide. He gives extra credit just for showing up too
This man made biology extremely interesting for me. I was never a fan of science classes but he would add jokes to make things funny and engaging. His tests aren't AWFUL, but you need to study for them. He added TONS of extra credit. There are a lot of Connect quizzes, but he allows unlimited chances to get a 100% on them.
GREAT PROF! Gives you the power points so you have the option to take notes on there or hand written. GIVES A TON OF EXTRA CREDIT. Always tried to make the lessons relatable to make them easier to understand. Loves to tell stories.
he's very clear as to whats on the exams. he's very adiment about class participation, if you don't he'll get upset at everyone. He always mentions random things in class that will be on the exam that aren't mention in his slides. overall great instructor, will take again.
The only reason this class is" tough" is because it is only offered at 8 am and his office hours are even earlier than that. However, he is a good teacher and will answer questions. He tells a lot of stories and really does make the class easy. GO TO CLASS. That is where you receive extra credit and all of the review for exams.
Stoia is a fantastic teacher. I hate science but this was a required class, and it was not bad at all. He gives extra credit if you show up. 5 exams, drops lowest grade. And he's hilarious. 10/10 would recommend. :)
loved him! so helpful. Great guy. Helps you with whatever you need! Go to class. People that show up will benefit. He recognizes your face. Really has a passion for teaching.
Very nice, but lectures are very boring. He reads right off of the powerpoints, so I often missed class and read the powerpoints online. But make sure to go to the 2 classes before the exams because he reads the test questions. Tests can be hard cuz questions aren't always in the notes. Gives in class extra credit pop quizzes. Lets class out early.
Hes an awesome guy. He is a boring lecturer but he's very fair. If a lot of kids missed one question on the exam, he took it off and have everyone credit. He gave 35 points extra credit, too. Go to his office hours and talk to him after class, he's a great guy.
Amazing Professor, very generous man. He is very very nice person, his lectures are easy to understand and always wait after class for any students that have any questions. Exams are straight forward and easy answers, he will not try to trick you on his exams. He is a very amazing professor. Will take his classes over anybody!
He is a very good professor that knows what he's talking about. His class was only offered at 8 AM but it wasn't required to go. If you do show up he gives a lot of extra credit. Quizzes are online and you can take them as many times as you want. The day before an exam he reviews it with you and basically gives you the answers.
He is hilarious and gives out a ridiculous amount of extra credit just for going to class. They are usually 8 am but attendance is not mandatory. One exam grade is dropped, including the final. He puts all of his lecture notes online and reviews the test before you take it. I would definitely suggest this professor.
He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities, and his study guides are very similar to the exams! Attend the review sessions (where he goes over the study guide) and you will pass the class. If you get a good grade on 4 of the exams you don't have to take the final which is exam 5 and it is not cumulative. All the quizzes are online
Dr. Stoia cares about his students and is always willing to help. He is available during his office hours to talk about questions for the class. Show up to class and he gives out extra credit and easy pop quizzes for points. He also goes over answers for the test the class period before. He really cares about his students and wants them to pass.
AWESOME teacher. He tells you EXACTLY what you need to know for the test and what to not waste your time on. Very friendly and has cute old man humor. He tries his best to make sure the students that actually come to class get the points they deserve. Will call you out if you are not paying attention or being distracting so just be a good student.
Stoia is such a great man. His lectures are amusing. Ask questions, he loves them. Attend class, not only does he randomly offer extra credit for showing but he'll recognize if you come frequently. Notes are put up on bb, just print and bring them to class. He doesnt really like laptops when lecturing and doesn't tolerate talking either. Good teach
Was thrown into this class last minute by my advisor. It was an online class. Very easy and simple material. Quiz each week due Sunday night and they were literally right off the book. Midterm is also open book and open note. He is a very nice teacher, will take time and help you in anyway shape and form. Would take him again. An easy A.
Such a great man. I am upset I only have to take one bio class because I would love to take Stoia again. Always go to class, even though it isnt mandatory. Be on time, extra credit happens often, but will only be given to the individuals at the start of class. Gives a great test review, tells you exactly what is needed for the test. great lecture.
Stoia was a great instructor. He really cares about whether you're passing the class if you actually show up to the lectures.
Just show up to class and you will get nearly a 100 in the class. He gives out tons of extra credit and wants to help all of his students that show up to class.
Stoia is a great Bio teacher, hes kind of like your run of the mill grandpa, teaching a class. The only things he really cares about is that you A) DO NOT TALK WHEN HE IS, for real, hes a great guy but he will call you out, and B) make sure you know how to fill out your scantron. Everything you need is in his lectures which he posts online
Stoia made my friends and I go crazy in his Bio 109 Human Anatomy class. His exams made no sense, and he wouldn't answer questions clearly. He goes off topic with random stories in class, so you never get through all the material. Nothing makes any sense in the class. He is really slow at putting grades in. Gives extra credit but doesn't put it in.
Just show up, do your reading and the quizzes and be respectful. He is a great professor and a caring and intelligent person. Would take again.
Best professor Ive had. Cares a lot about you and your grade if you show effort and are respectful.
Should not be teaching this course. It is the only course available which is ONLY available at 8 a.m. Teacher is not understanding of personal lives, not even taking into this consideration that this is an 8 a.m course. Do not take this class. you will get stuck if you don't pass, and this is a professor you don't want to be stuck with.
Professor goes extremely off topic in class, rambling about things that have absolutely nothing to do with what we learn. We make it to class at 8 a.m so he should too and actually do his job and teach us. He is COMPLETELY rude and not understanding, has no respect for his students, and in my opinion, should not be working. Worst professor by far.
He's a good teacher but tells a lot of stories. He gives extra credit often, especially the class after an exam. He would give a full verbal study guide while looking at the test but it was still very vague information that didn't relate all that much to the test.
Not the best lectures, but attendance is crucial for your grade.
Biology 103 is a very difficult class. The class points mainly consists of exams. The lecture is taught from a PowerPoint, but Dr. Stoia tries his best to provide stories and examples to help students understand better. Dr Stoia is a very caring and understanding man and I really enjoyed having him as a professor.
Show a little effort and he will take you a very long way toward inspiration.
Awful! He has no respect for his students!
As much as 8am biology sucks, Stoia tries to break up some of the heavy material by telling stories. The exams are hard, but he does give you study guides. He helps out a lot if you go in to see him during his office hours. He is such a sweet old man with such a big heart. He is also incredibly intelligent!
He basically gives you the whole test a week or so before the exam. He's always giving out extra credit which really boosts your grade up by alot. However, if you skip his class, you will get loss. Don't show up late to exams because he will make you feel bad about it, and sit near the front for exams. Overall, he's such a great guy, love Stoia
Stoia is a good man. Only gets angry when you disrupt his lecture- he just asks for respect and attention which isn't hard. Gives extra credit out quite a bit and sometimes for things such as the football team or soccer team winning. One of our EC quizzes was "Is Stoia happy NIU won? Is Stoia happy Michigan won?" Just show up and read.
Dr. Stoias class is heavily based on lectures and tests. All of the grades you receive will be for some type of assessment whether it be quizzes or tests (or both), so basically if you dont go to class it can be very easy for you to get behind. Its not hard to get a passing grade but youll definitely have to work for it.
Class consists of powerpoint presentations and Stoia going a little more in depth about the topic with additional stories from him. Don't talk when he does or he will go off on you. Gives out extra credit quizzes at random things . Stoia is an ok prof but I had a really hard time understanding the content. I asked for help but he didn't help much.
Dr. Stoia is the best professor I have had at NIU. He genuinely cares that his students succeed. You have to earn your grade. He gives reviews a couple days before the tests and that is extremely helpful. Get the workbook and the book, the reviews in the workbook help a lot on the tests. Attendance is not mandatory, extra credit given some days.
Don't take this class if you don't need to. Dr. Stoia is all over the place. He doesn't spend a lot of class time talking about what's on the test, moreso just what interests him. The syllabus is inaccurate as far as what chapters are covered on the exams; if you miss the day he goes over what will be on the exam, you're screwed.
Dr. Stoia tends to go off topic for most the of the lecture (talks a lot about history). he likes to make jokes/tell personal stories. He uses weird analogies to make the topics easier (DOESN'T HELP). He skips through most of his slides and is not very helpful. I suggest buying the workbook because those questions are the questions on his exams!
Gives great study guides for his exams and extra credit that happens out of no where.
Dr. Stoia is a very down to earth prof. Loves to tell stories, kinda rambles sometimes. Loves teaching in his field and is very knowledgeable. Interact in class, it helps. Gives random extra credit quizzes. Gives study guides before every exam, very helpful. Hes available outside office hours, comes in SUPER early, responds to emails quickly.
One of the best professors I've had!
Make sure that you attend the lecture, a couple of lectures before the test he will literally open the test and tell you exactly what you need to know. He literally gives you a study guide for the test. If you do not do well on the first test go to his office hours and he will help you and possibly raise your grade.
The teacher always gets off topic. The study guide is hard to follow when you dont have a paper in front of you.
Dr. Stoia is very knowledgeable but he is strict. He loves to be respected or he will be rude. If you stay on his good side he is awesome. He appreciates enthusiasm and participation. He does get off topic sometimes but he gives a test review for all tests where he tells all the questions that will be on it and he drops lowest test grade.
He gets off topic and I think he really focuses on you doing well on a test rather than you understanding the material. I wasn't a fan of him randomly picking on people in class to answer a question. Also when taking test, he sits everyone next to each other rather than spaced out, makes it awkward when you finish. 1/10 would not recommend.
Dr. Stoia is one of the best professors I have had so far. His class is difficult but if you put in the work, it is possible to do very well. He literally tells you all the material covered on the exams, drops the lowest exam grade, and gives out extra credit. Attendance isn't "mandatory" but HIGHLY recommend going to every lecture.
He is just hard to understand because he mumbles and not only that but goes off on random unrelated topics and stories that just make you more confused as to what he is talking about. He skips slides and the info he does want you to know for exams is random. Go to the exam review days in class & it will really help you to know what he is expecting.
Right off the bat I did not get a good vibe from him. He tries really hard to be funny and he sometimes is, but with him being very rude and a jerk it is hard to enjoy his jokes and his class in general. He sidetracks too often and picks on students too much. His review days go over the entire test but not worth taking his class in my opinion.
Dr. Stoia is very funny and caring, But he gets off topic in class alot. He doesn't give enough time in between tests to get through the lectures, so you have to do alot of studying and learn the material on your own.
He goes off topic a lot but he always follows back onto topic. Make sure to show up to class on time and GO THROUGH THE BACK DOOR. You have 5 tests and many online quizzes. The tests are easy because he gives a really good review before taking the test. I would take his class again. Be sure to sit in the front so he gets to know you.
Dr Stoia is an awesome prof. If you go to class he will notice and be especially helpful in office hours. He truly cares about his students. He is not the most sensitive in lecturing and if you are disrespectful or talk during lecture hell ask you to leave. Exams are hard but do able, find others to study with. Lecture is interesting.
He gets off topic a lot but the lectures and slides are very well done and clear. He follows the syllabus like a contract which I enjoyed, but he randomly picks on certain people in class and I did not enjoy that. You never really know your grade because he usually grades connect quizzes as a 0 so you have to go in for office hours multiple times.
Go to class and take notes on what he says, not the power points. All his quizzes are a surprise so attendance is necessary to survive.
He's VERY RUDE and he's very unprofessional do not I repeat do not take his class he's a Jerk and try so hard to be funny but he's not.
Very unorganized and unhelpful class. Each week we had a quiz that would have nothing we talked about in it or something you could find in the textbook. His advice to us was look it up on Google. Will not answer emails. Tries to be funny but ends up being rude and ignorant, even had an incident had to report
I think he cares and he does try to help students but I found that the majority for his directions were unclear even after asking questions. I also found the test are not like the reviews he does.
He really only graded on quizzes and exams and they both were given at least a week to complete. He does review sessions and give extra credit.
I took him online this semester and it wasnt bad at all. You get 2 chances for the quizzes and he usually hosts a review for an upcoming test. Attendance isnt mandatory but Id recommend to go.
His grading system let's students fall mostly in the B grade rather than an A. He does not round even if your score is 91.99% . You can only get an A if you fall between a 92% and above. I got a B because I was at a 91%. His final exam was ridiculous, 100 questions with several misspellings! I emailed him about my grade, he ignored me. Don't take!
Stoia is a good professor, BUT he's mean. he says he's nice and won't yell at you, and encourages us to ask questions, but when a girl asked one he yelled at her and completely humiliated her, then he told her to google it herself. He yelled at me before I even finished asking him if he could help me with questions I had about a lecture I missed.
you will enjoy your time in this class as long as you do not personally talk to Dr. Stoia. He is a really good and knowledgeable professor. He teaches the material really well and as long as you pay attention and put in the work you will definetly get an A+.
i enjoyed the class. I loved the concept and overall the material given to us was very helpful on test and quizzes
This class was harder than my upper level courses. When we asked questions he would often tell us to "google it" and told us to do the same on quizzes and tests. Each quiz had two chances but covered 100+ pages from the textbook. It was impossible to learn all of the information that he assigned each week. The tests came directly from his reviews.
Takes his frustrations on his students, unprofessional. I had to retake a test due to a family member passing away. I had spoken to him about this prior, in person, so he knew my face and situation. I was grieving, I accidently wrote the answers on the wrong column and he snatched the sheet from my hands, yelling at me calling me incompetent.
I took bio 103 this semester and it was fine. Every Friday you have a quiz but it isnt bad. You do not need textbooks you only need is the connect website since all the quizzes will be there. He gives reviews out a week before the exams which are helpful but some questions in the exams are not in the review. He does give extra credit rarely.
Professor Stoia can be very harsh sometimes. I came a few minutes late because of the bus running behind always waiting by the student center for God knows how long. I asked him if I could still take the test and he refused to let me take it. I have also emailed him about things and he would never get back to me and you can never hear when he talks
Do yourself a favor and do NOT take this class. The teacher is rude and extremely strict! You practically teach yourself the material with maybe a 40% chance of passing the test. Pros: The quizzes are online and very easy for extra point. He drops your lowest test grade at the end of the semester Cons: Does not teach Difficult tests
this is a easy enough class if you go to every lecture and study your notes/textbook for the exams and weekly quizzes. the exams were intimidating at first but stoia gives a review of basically everything you need to know and the lowest exam gets dropped. the only negative i have is how boring the lecture could get since he liked to go off topic
He is one of the better bio teachers and he gives a few extra credits and plus his quizzes are online no homework all the notes are on a PowerPoint and plus he is going to answer any questions that you will have
The way he runs this corse makes no sense. Tested on material we haven’t learned in over a month(we would learn chapters 6, 7 &8 but test only those chapters a month later). Doesn’t know what quizzes are due when. Not good at using blackboard. He picks on people in class and will be rude to them. Easy material and work but a horrible teacher.
Dr. Stoia does not do a good job teaching. You will have to teach yourself to pass this class. He also does little to nothing to prepare students for exams and the exams often have unexpected question. He is also very aggressive and yells at students.
Every time I would go to class I would regret it because it was always a bad way to start my day. He can be quite rude to student who just ask simple questions. He is very hard to hear at times and when we asked him to repeat himself he would blame US and tell us we don't know how to take good notesThe average in my bio103 is a 68% Mostly his fault
Dr. Stoia did not require attendance but I would advise that you attend because he tells you what slides to skip when studying. He is very rude to his students and made a lot of us fear to ask him questions. If you study the lecture slides and read the text book you will do fine. He prefers that you sit in the front of the classroom.
A lot of people here are super overdramatic. This course was NOT hard. He literally tells students what is going to be on the test... it really can't get much better than that. As long as you go to class, take notes, and study what he tells you to study, you will get an A. The tests were not difficult and there were opportunities for extra credit.
if it comes down to him or another prof for this course, take a diff prof. very rude and will humiliate you in front of class. spend more time giving 'life lessons' than teaching bio&wonders why students fail. HE talks during exams at normal vol. very distracting. a girl asked for help about a question on exam, he said he wont answer exam questions
Stoia is a low end professor; covers the critical material in slides that are avaliable online BUT his lectures are quiet and contain tangents making them hard to follow. An awful teacher who humiliates students. If he thinks you should understand something he wont help you. Online quizzes, in person tests, don't be late there's no retakes.
Doctor Stoia is a cool professor, make sure you attend class because he gives you questions in class that are going to be on the tests for the class and also take lots of good notes when he is talking it will help you a lot, and do not use your cellphone he does not really like it in the class because it is rude but overall he is a cool professor
Prof Stoia gets off topic the whole lecture to even go through materials, any constructive criticism about how he treats his students is seen as arguing.Lost my scantron and blamed me repeatedly belittled me throughout all our conversations saying to just take the 0 and that he couldn't do anything about it when I wasn't at fault.
His class was ok. Most of the time he just reads off PowerPoints and goes off topic, when I went to class I felt like it was useless. You cant be on your phone or talk at all in his class without him calling you out and telling you to leave. Quizzes were easy, tests were ok if you got a study guide (he only gives during lecture)
Dr. Stoia will go off topic in class to talk about "life lessons" rather than teaching biology. You will feel humiliated by him if he calls you out in class for being on your phone, typing on your laptop, or talking to someone else. The quizzes were online and open note, the tests were fine since gives out study guides during lectures.
When I was about to take this class, I was worried. I am an English major and had to take a science course for my gen-ed requirements. I was very surprised by how interesting Dr. Stoia made biology. He has a real passion for the subject and truly cares about all his students. Be prepared to succeed, Dr. Stoia wouldn't have it any other way.
Go to lectures and go to his office hours. If you go to the lectures and pay attention and take okay notes you'll do good. Every exam he'll give a study guide, do them for A's/ B's on the exams. If you go to his office hours you'll get an A in his class.
The one thing I do not like about this professor's class is that it is basically a self-teaching class. You need to learn the material on your own. This professor likes to go on tangents about other things. He gets very distracted easily and I find him rarely ever talking about what it is we need to learn. The tests are extremely challenging.
the lectures were not always helpful, because he would go on tangents, but he reviews for the exams well if you attend class. Going to office hours is helpful if you are struggling. I went from a D on exams to an A all because I attended office hours. There are mostly quizzes and exams. Attendance isn't required but you should when exams are near.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU CAN. I AM WARNING YOU, IF POSSIBLE FIND A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR THAT TEACHES THIS COURSE. He is so disrespectful and talks to you in any type of way. He goes on tangents so much that you basically walk out of class with nothing. His quizzes are easy but his exams are difficult and the study guides don't really help.
This man can not teach. I think it's time for him to head to the nursing home because he thinks his classes are little story times where he goes off on tangents for more than 15 minutes at a time about his childhood stories. He needs to understand that people are paying him by the minute to TEACH. I have not learned one thing from this man.
If you go to class and take notes you will be okay, if you are confused go to office hours he is more than willing to help you. He also gives a study guide before the exam. The tests were not too difficult if you went over/studied the material. Overall, the class wasn't hard and he dropped the lowest test grade.
VERY RUDE TO STUDENTS! He is extremely rude to anyone and does not care to call you out and humiliate you in front of the whole class. He doesn't answer questions, he tells you to " google it " and he goes off topic during EVERY SINGLE CLASS to talk about the most random things. You will basically teach yourself in this class
Personally, I have nothing great to say about this professor. Even when I got a medical note to NOT come to school, this professor gave me the ultimatum to take the exam or get a zero. It's also frustrating that he talks more about himself than the course information. I don't want to pay for a class to learn about my professor because I don't care.
The first teacher I've ever despised in my entire educational experience. I came into this class because I liked human biology in high school, but ended up hating this class altogether. Despite going on tangents, he will humiliate you for saying a word, class related or not. Very disrespectful and egotistical. Youtube has taught me better.
My favorite class conversations that Stoia has brought up in classes were: 1. You are wasting your parents money by not showing up to my class (he barely teaches during class) 2. My daughter is proud of me because I'm not racist 3. Don't sue me I have no money instead you sue the school (the textbook required for class is HIS)
Worst teacher I've ever had.
I AM SO SERIOUS! Worst professor I've ever had, and I've had extremely racist professors. He verbally abused me multiple times. He never answers questions, and will make fun of you for asking. I cried many times after talking to him. DONT
This is the WORST man I had during my second semester, he didn't even teach most of the time. He talks more about his wife than actual biology. He gets so angry and smart at students for no reason, when this class is at 8 am. He shows no respect to others so give him the same energy back.
This professor is really rude and disrespectful when it comes to his students. He spends a good amount of time just randomly talking. I had a personal experience of him disrespecting me personally. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone. The material isn't hard, it's really the teacher that's teaching the material. I wish I chosen someone else.
awful professor, don't take this class. I picked this class was because its required for my major and he was the only option. talks about anything but the actual class or on a single YouTube video, yet makes attendance basically mandatory. if you actually want to learn something please pick someone else. not to mention his test days are the worst
This class was just all 100 slide PowerPoint lectures throughout the year. He also would constantly go off topic to talk about things not even relating to the material he was talking about in class. Quizzes were easy, exams were long and tedious at times.
DON'T WALK..RUUUN FROM THIS PROFESSOR. At 8am in the morning no one wants to be dealing with his disrespect and bullying. His exams can be found on course hero and it's more useful to study that then his review questions. He reads off the slides and spends 99% of class talking about himself or arguing.
After reading reviews I was worried about the class. But when I got into the class, I realized it wasn't too bad. Just make sure you show up, sit within the first few rows and go to his office hours and the class won't be that bad.
Dr. Stoia has been one of my best professors this semester. Participating in class really helps you understand the material, and I got an A on my first exam. The material is understandable, and he always outlines what sort of questions will be on the test and what information is important. Don't skip class though! You won't know what to study.
Stoia is not that bad in my opinion, when reading these ratings I was terrified to go to class. I will say Stoia doesn't play, but he appreciated participation, etc. He goes off-topic often; just don't talk unless you're answering a question. Go to class he has random quizzes that are easy. Go to class, he will tell you everything on the test.
If I could give anyone advice, its to never take any class taught by stoia. He is genuinely the worst professor I've ever had, not exaggerating. He CONSTANTLY goes off topic during class and is just a bad professor in general. Extremely rude and "old fashioned" has said multiple racist things in class and brushes it off. Big superiority complex.
Not a very nice guy, boastful. Rude to students and truly looks down upon others. If you go to class you can simply pass with an A. He goes off topic and gets confused with what he has already said. He has a difficult time navigating black board, so be sure to keep up with checking your grade.
Beware of this professor. He's very difficult to deal with and support is limited. He does not care if you are having a mental, physical, or emotional time in your life, he will show no remorse or respect even if you come to him in a vulnerable state asking for academic support. He is rude and unconcerned. Life happens. Don't lean on him for help
People are too harsh on Stoia. He's an old guy who likes to crack some jokes. He doesn't mean anything personally, so don't take it that way. As far as lecture goes, he loves it if you show up to class every day. Make sure to atleast show up a couple of lectures before the exams, as he'll give a review or just read questions directly from the test.
Stoia can be a tough professor, but engaging in class and using resources like unstuck AI for study prep really helps. Attendance is a must, but you'll get the info you need to do well on tests.
I wouldn't take Dr. Stoia's class again. His classroom environment was extremely uncomfortable, especially if you're queer, a woman, PoC, etc. The class itself is an easy A as long as you show up. DO NOT MISS EXAMS. He did drop one exam, but there is no makeup. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. I never used it and got an A, and it was expensive.
