She was possibly the worst professor I've had thus far. Her voice is very dead and she has no emotion. Chemistry could either be a very fun subject, or a very boring one. She made it so bland when chemistry could be so much more fun! I four pointed the class, but it took a lot of work and I taught myself most of the material. Overall disappointed.
Uses clicker to take attendance and all the lectures can be found on D2L. I really enjoyed having her as a professor. I took AP chem in high school so much of the information was review, but she taught it in a very clear way to understand. Exams are based off of lecture notes, BeSocratic HW, and Exam reviews you can print off.
Great professor! Would recommender because of excellent lectures that really helped me understand the content well.
Great professor, really clear. I thought the class was easy, but quite a lot of other students seemed to think it was hard.
Great Teacher Information was clear and concise Exams weren't bad with minimal studying Slides posted online She wants you to succeed She is cute like the girl back home cute
Chemistry isn't my strongest subject but Professor Cangelosi made it a lot easier. She explained the material very well and outlined exactly what needed to be studied for the exams. Make sure to attend lecture for clicker points. Definitely would take another class with her!
Dr Cangelosi is overall an amazing professor. She is very clear in teaching. Just go to class, read the lecture slides before exams, and you'll definitely 3.5 this class, if not 4.0.
Professor Cangelosi taught CEM 141 very well. She went in-depth with all the concepts which were expanded on in discussion. You do not have to read the online CLUE textbook given to you (yup, that's right, they give you a textbook for free!) just show up for lectures and pay attention. Short answers on exams were graded harshly but MC was easy!
Fantastic lectures. Way better than Pollock
What an inspiring Prof! I put off Chem until my senior year and this instructor made me feel as though I could pursue a masters in biochemistry! She is hands down the best professor I have ever had!
CEM 141 overall is a hard class, but Cangelosi did not make it any easier. She was never very clear about what was going to be on the exams or what we should be studying. She does post all the lecture notes online, but class is mandatory to get clicker points. I missed one class because I had an exam that went over and she wouldn't give me points.
Doctor Cangelosi is hands down the best professor I've ever had. Her lectures are super engaging, so it is almost impossible to zone out in class. If you keep up with the material, the exams are fairly easy. She is also very approachable & is always willing to answer any questions you might have. Loved this class!
Her voice is very engaging and makes it easy to stay awake even during early or late classes. She's very good at explaining tough concepts and is willing to stay a few minutes after class if you need extra help.
I had her for chem 141 and she was pretty good, sometimes she goes a little fast through the lectures but when she does its ok because the lectures are all posted to D2L
The lectures can be dry, but overall she is very thorough. Do the work assigned and getting a 4.0 will not be a problem in this class. There is assigned reading, but the book is not the best quality--it will most likely be of little help. Don't be afraid to stop by her office hours she is super nice!
I didn't like her at first. The first exam was horrible! All her department is horrible and you lose tons of points in the MC (it is 20 questions 4 points each). All of my other points i managed to get from the short answer (some could be misleading). I had to study a week in advance and taught myself the material, went to help room and L. obj.
Professor Cangelosi is one of the best professor's i've ever had. She makes chemistry interesting and i was never bored in her class. She explains everything very clearly and draws a lot on the board which enhances your comprehension even more.
She is probably one of the best general chemistry professors at MSU. Her lectures are clear and she gives a lot of opportunities to ask questions.
Difficult exams, but one can get dropped in the end. Participation and attendance are required and necessary to get the material. The book is free and can be helpful. Homework and recitation work is completion so participate and do it. Class is lecture based but she sometimes goes fast and the example problems are easier than what you later see
Dr. Cangelosi is a good professor overall, she is good about making time for questions and ensuring people are on the same page. Lectures are a little boring, but if you pay attention in class, there's no need to read.
Dr. Cangelosi was a solid professor. She has all of her lecture notes on powerpoints that are posted to D2l, so you have all of the information at your fingertips for prepping for exams. The practice problems in the slides and on the recitation worksheets are good practice for the exams as well. Overall, I enjoyed the course.
Dr. Cangelosi is probably one of the best professors I've had. She makes sure to thoroughly explain the material and answer any questions and makes herself accessible outside of class. As long as you go to lecture, take notes and actively participate in recitation you will do well.
The lectures are good to go to because they cover everything, and if you don't go the recitation will be difficult
i love cangelosi. best professor ever. So easy to learn from. Makes information very clear. Take cem 141 with her and you will 4.0
Very good professor, her lectures are clear and concise and she doesn't lose focus. If you attend the lecture you WILL understand the material so much that you won't even feel compelled to read the online textbook. She makes you do clicker questions in-class which is a nice chunk of the grade. If she writes it on the board you need to write it down
She gives very good explanations and is very open to talking to students one on one during and outside of class to help students to learn.
Great professor who really cares about her student's success and does a good job explaining concepts. Available a lot outside of lecture for help. I did not find this a hard class the professor definitely helped make it easier than I expected. The textbook is online and was not very helpful to me but I did try to read it some because it was free.
Cangelosi was a great professor. The course however, almost everyone fails it the first time. There is homework after every lecture day.
Definitely a class where you'll want to attend every lecture and dedicate a decent chunk of time to studying for exams. Dr. Cangelosi is a really great professor though, always willing to go over concepts the class is having trouble with and allocates a lecture for review before each exam. Her lectures are really easy to take notes on as well.
chem is a hard class, but Cangelosi makes it a lot easier to grasp. the lectures are clear and concise, she makes sure you have all the info you need to do well on the exams and recitation helps a ton.
Great professor! Makes sure students understand the material before moving on, makes difficult concepts easier to understand, and knows what she's talking about.
Dr. C. gave very clear and structured lectures that were easy to follow. Although homework was due mostly every class, I found it very helpful, especially to revisit while studying for the exams; the free response questions are very similar to, if not exactly, homework questions!
She is very specific in lectures. All of the homework in her class is online, but the exams are in person. The tests are difficult, but not impossible. Overall pretty good teacher...
Lectures are direct and great for note taking. The key to her classes is to figure out how to incorporate all of the material in a way that works for your study style for exams. She is happy to work with you in her office hours and is always kind yet direct. I would definitely recommend this professor.
Dr. Cangelosi is a fantastic professor. Go to her lectures, take notes that aren't on the slides, participate in recitation, and you WILL get a 4.0. It's an easy class with a great professor that makes everything very understandable. I almost failed the same chem class in high school. Now I finished this class with a 4.0. She is AMAZING!
Dr. Cangelosi is an awesome prof, if you can take her class do it. I didnt do the best just bc I was lazy and didnt study enough. exams are concise but definitely go to the study rooms and go over your past exams for the final
It was easy to tell that professor Cangelosi put time into preparing her lectures, drew clear diagrams, and explained the topics easily. While iClicker questions are not graded for correctness, they count for participation points in your grade so as long as you show up, take good notes, and don't fall behind she makes it easy to succeed!
The professor herself is fine, it's the quizzes she gives that are really difficult. They have like 4 parts to each answer which trip you up. You absolutely have to take lots of notes and do plenty of studying. This isn't an easy pass but at least homework, recitation are free points. Also makes you buy random applications which aren't cheap.
Chemistry is a tough course, no getting past that. If I had another other professor, I probably wouldve failed despite how hard I worked. She answers emails quickly with HELPFUL responses, is always there for office hours, and has very well put together lectures. Loved having her as a professor and would recommend her a million times!!
I am defiantly not a fan of learning chemistry but the professor explains things so well and I never hated going to class. If something didn't make sense I was able to ask questions and professor would throughly explain anything.
The class was challenging but she was a very good teacher and cares about her students.
If you don't attend all the lectures and take notes the entire time you will struggle a lot on assignments and quizzes. Quizzes are always super hard and confusing. If a question has 4 parts and you mess up even one, you get no credit. Took her a long time to answer my emails and going to office hours didn't help at all. I despised this class.
Such an amazing professor!!
Cangelosi is by far the best professor I have taken at MSU and would gladly recommend her to anyone else. She is very clear on what information is being tested and answers ANY question you have. She is very organized and it is very easy to follow along. If you watch lectures and takes notes you should get a 4.0 no problem. 10/10
Very good with answering questions and explaining things, she also has plenty of office hours that make her easy to access! Class wasnt mandatory but recitations were! Weekend quizzes and no exams.
Professor Cangelosi is very good at what she does. In lecture she stresses the material that will be on the quizzes so there are never any surprises. She stays after class to answer questions and go over challenging topics again. The homework is helpful in understanding the material and doesn't take very long.
I hate chemistry, but Dr. Cangelosi was good at what she taught, I had no choice but to learn. The class was very well-organized, I never missed any assignments. I probably wouldn't have passed without a professor that is this organized and prepared.
Dr. Cangelosi is a great professor. She is very accessible by email and office hours and is very kind and helpful. Take any extra credit you are offered, because your course grade is very heavily affected by the multiple choice and short answer quizzes, and there are only six of them. Try your hardest in this class and you will excel!
Her class was overall easy, however, the quizzes I found difficult. I attended every lecture and took all the notes I could but would never do great on the quizzes. I highly recommend attending every lecture if you want to do decent in her class.
Dr. Cangelosi is honestly amazing and did a great job with the virtual format due to COVID. The class is well-organized, and quizzes are very fair. We also didn't have a final exam this semester, just an optional final project. We also used a free open source PDF textbook, but there were two other access codes we needed (which weren't too expensive
This class does require work but it is organized very well. For me 50 minute classes were great, easier to stay focused than 2 hour lectures. Extra credit opportunities and no exams! Office hours were very helpful and there is always someone in the help room.
she is super organized and is clear about her standards. she goes over the information quickly in lecture but you can go back to the recorded version and get what you missed. textbook is free and its use is suggested but not needed. homework isn't too hard, it's based on completion. ALWAYS reread your notes for 100% understanding certain topics.
She was beyond kind, especially with everything going on. She does go through the lectures VERY quickly and there is a lot of material in each one, definitely recommend going back to rewatch them. Attendance only mandatory in the recitations and all lectures are recorded. It is advised to attend so you don't fall behind. A lot is dropped.
Virginia teaches as if you already know the material, I've been partnered with many students who have already taken more advanced Chemistry and do well. However, their opinion is that the material presented in class in no way helps reflect what is on the quizzes. I attend every lecture and taken massive notes. Get ready to teach yourself.
Honest to God, best professor ever. When I told her my grade was low, she worked above and beyond to help me out, and she felt so bad. Now when I told her I got an A she became so happy and joyful. You may not know it, but if you have a chance to chose a professor, Cangelosi is your best chance at improving. She also makes the lectures very fun!!
Professor Cangelosi was an amazing professor who really wants her students to succeed. Most of this class is based on participation which is great to learn new topics. She made learning Chemistry engaging, interesting, and easy. This class is based on lectures, homework, quizzes, and a final project. She is always willing to help outside of class.
Took CEM142 with Dr. Cangelosi, and you can tell she knows what she's teaching. Her lectures are very true to the quizzes in the class, she explains things thoroughly and often asks questions through polls to make sure everyone understands. I would definitely take this class with her if I were you.
Dr. Cangelosi is a very good professor. I highly recommend taking her class. She takes time after every class to explain anything students need answered. The material in her classes are tough, but she knows what she's doing and tries her best to explain the topics.
Professor Cangelosi is very good at explaining the concepts in her lectures. She prepares you well with the examples given in class, and if you do everything she recommends you will do well.
Great choice. Her lectures are great and she is very compassionate and assessable outside of class. There is homework but it is nothing that would make you cry
She is an amazing prof and probably the best one I've had so far. Her lectures are informative and interactive with live polls which I loved and were helpful. Quizzes this semester were open note and focused on understanding more than memorization. Homework was every lecture but didn't take much time and there was a simple final project.
I had Dr. Cangelosi for CEM141 last semester, and had to take CEM142 this semester, and I actually sought out a 142 class that she specifically taught because I loved her so much last semester. I loved her just as much this semester. She's smart, kind, explains everything amazingly, and got me to actually really love chemistry.
awesome lady super happy to help
Professor Cangelosi is great and explains thing very thoroughly. She will email you back very quickly if you have any problems. Her lectures do drag on sometimes. The graded assignments are graded very hard. Her quizzes are annoying because each question makes you select 3-4 answers and if you get one wrong you lose the whole credit.
She's very clear at explaining things and truly cares about the subject. Beware of graded assignments for CEM141, the TA's do not grade gently. Those answers need to be perfect so make sure you have a good understanding of the material. The quizzes are hard as well but if you go to class and pay attention you should 3.5 the class no problem.
She teaches with passion and does a good job explaining material
Every homework grade is worth 1pt and the quizzes and Graded Homework Assignments are worth far more so if you get a lower grade on one of the big assignments or quizzes then your grade completely drops. Quizzes arent on what you learned in lecture so be ready to learn off YouTube. Grading is extremely inconsistent. Professor is terrible.
She made one of the hardest classes at MSU so much more enjoyable and as understandable as any prof would. She was always joyous and happy, she really seemed to care about her students. If you're taking CEM 141 this is the prof you need.
Dr. C explains everything very well, and she is always ready to help. Use the learning objectives youre provided and the quizzes will go well for you.
Honestly go to lectures and study youll pass fine. Easy A in my opinion but Im good with chemistry.
She is literally one of the best profs ever! i hated chem in high school, but she taught it so well that it became one of my favorite subjects. This class is pretty easy if you put the work in.
I am an engineering major and this was my most confusing class this semester. She would go through content too quickly but breeze through important stuff. Our homework was on things we hadnt learned and once we learned them we would not review them.
Professor Cangelosi makes succeeding in chem a breeze. There are no surprises in this class, everything is laid out in the syllabus and she basically handfeeds you the content. If you skip lecture and don't go to recitation you won't know what's doing on, but as long as you follow the blueprint she creates for you, you'll do fine.
Dr. Cangelosi was a great professor for the limited interactions we had. Her lectures were straight to the point and her homework really drove the concepts home. When I needed an explanation for an assignment that I lost points on, she was very detailed and explained everything in a way that made sense. I'd definitely recommend her course.
While the class homework load was heavy sometimes, overall the class wasnt bad and Dr Can was better than I expected. Lectures arent mandatory but if you miss them and dont take notes...good luck.
She makes a quiz open note, open book but then will pull the most difficult ridiculous questions.
Prof Cangelosi is really sweet and gets to the point in lecture. However, make sure to study more then what is spoken in class, the tests are harder than the homework. Overall, easy class just keep up with lectures and actually ask questions.
Simply the best Chem Professor, super understanding, exams are much like mock exams and notes, easy to understand and she is always nice and seems like she actually cares about her students even if its a 300+ class
Cangelosi does the best she can to make a difficult subject like chemistry accessible to people unfamiliar with the subject. There is a pretty forgiving grading curve, with lower grades allowed to be dropped pretty often, recitations are helpful though exams are definitely a bit on the tougher side but also plenty of extra credit opportunities too.
She was really great, very clear with her teaching, only thing that sucks is that the majority of your grade is made up of 3 exams and a final. Make sure you actually study and understand the concepts and you'll do fine.
Great professor, teaches everything you need to know. Attendance and participation is taken in lectures and recitation, but for the most part that's where you get the information anyways. Homework is online and does a good job of walking you through the things you need to learn for the test without taking too long to complete. Overall good class.
She helped make chemistry a little easier to understand. She always provided help for her students whether it was from her TAs (inside and/or outside of class) or herself. I think most people can get on board with her style of teaching.
Honestly amazing class. I loved and engaged with it so well and found the homework to be fun and not too long.
Best professor I've every had. Homework after almost every lecture but it's graded by completion, not correctness.
Such an amazing professor. Dr. Cangelosi does such a great job of explaining course material. No reason that anyone should get below a 4.0 in this class.
Best professor I've had at Michigan State so far. Her attitude is always great, and her lectures are really engaging. 100% would take again.
Very kind woman who seemed like she cared a lot about what she had to teach and her students, class was very well organized and was easy to navigate even when doing most of it on my own.
Probably the best professor I have had at msu. If you actually go to class and pay attention and take notes this is an easy 4.0. She treats her students like children which makes it so easy to understand. I recommend rewatching the lecture videos after class and fill in any notes you missed because that's what you'll be studying for exams.
Prof. Cangelosi taught the material in a very easy to understand way. None of the information was extremely difficult as long as you went to lectures and did the homework. Exams are extremely similar to reception assignments. A lot of extra credit and completion credit to boost your grade.
Overall one of the nicest profs I've ever had. You're only allowed 6 absences for the semester making attendance "mandatory", but she records the lectures so you don't miss anything. The lectures were easy to understand, the tests were easy, everything was easy. If you took any chem in high school you'll get a 4.0 without trying too hard.
Take hers
If you are taking CEM141, take the class with her. She's really good at explaining the martial and cares about the students. Unfortunately, she doesn't offer CEM142 for spring 23. Just study on time and do the homework, and you will get an easy 4.0.
Dr. Cangelosi's lectures are really clear and packed with important info. Attendance is required for a small grade, but lectures are posted online. She explains the material extremely well and always goes over homework. Tests are easy if you pay attention and study, so I would strongly recommend always attending lecture and recitation.
The lectures are short and to the point, the homeworks are easy, and the tests are alright. If you do the homework and take notes in class, you will be just fine.
Cangelosi was awesome. She is very sweet, and cares about her students. She explains concepts very well. Material is hard, but I am not a science person myself. Exams are difficult, but doing the homework will help your grade. 50 minute lectures which aren't bad. She makes it a priority to end class on time. Overall great professor.
This professor is very passionate about this topic. She is very nice and she is accessible outside of class. The class I would rate difficult but the professor is easy to understand and to work with. There are so many opportunities for extra credit and to reach out for help. If you put the work in you can 4.0 in this class.
I learned a lot in lecture, professor explained concepts super well, homework was also super straightforward.
Great at making material clear and great at explaining when students ask "why"
The nicest professor I've ever had. I found the class itself difficult (mainly the exams), but she does a very good job of being clear and to the point. Make sure you complete all the homework on time and go to every lecture, that's easy points that will help you later.
i misjudged you bae... thank you for all those silly examples. i miss you
Amazing professor
I don't enjoy chemistry much, but the layout of the class is pretty good. The professor does a good job explaining concepts. I wish there wasn't participation grades since the lectures can seem a little slow sometimes. The tests are fairly average if you study for them, there are a lot of semi-trick questions though. Good professor.
Even if you have little to no experience in chemistry, the possibility for you to succeed in this class is very high. Professor does a great job at breaking down and explaining concepts during lecture. I would maybe even say these are the most well structured lectures I have had. Informative, clear, concise, and the class moves at the perfect pace.
Professor Cangelosi was very enthusiastic about her lecture material and was able to keep students engaged throughout the semester.
Class was overall pretty easy, but it's very exam heavy. Make sure you understand what's going on in lecture since that's what everything is based on. Virginia made it overall pretty easy to understand the content and she had realistic deadlines for homework and exams.
Make sure you are good with online work and staying on top of lecture material. The textbook is free online from MSU and is used every class. Everything done is based on lecture and they are recorded as well as attendance. The exams are very content based from the lecture slides so make sure you don't just know what they slides say but why that is.
She is such a great professor- if you get the chance to have her, you'll find classes a lot easier and material a lot easier to understand. You can tell she prioritizes students and their learning and she does a great job at teaching
She uses iClickers for attendance, but the responses are not graded for accuracy. Overall, I felt content was explained well and she provided a number of resources for if you were confused.
Prof. Cangelosi was amazing! She really cares about her students and makes lectures as interesting as General Chem can be. Tests are very application based, so make sure you understand the material. i would avoid skipping as much as possible because you will miss a lot.
For teaching hundreds of students, Professor Cangelosi does a very good job of including students and sustains a welcoming learning environment in lectures and in office hours. During lectures, she explains complicated topics very well and encourages questions.
She's a great professor and obviously cares very deeply about her students and is super passionate about chemistry. However, the exams didn't reflect what was taught in lectures and recitations very well. I found that the questions on her exams were worded weirdly, and tough to comprehend which made the questions hard to answer.
Good professor for a weeder class, homework almost every night, but only 10-20 questions and graded off of completion. Plenty of extra credit opportunities that were easy. If you pay attention and do the work in and out of class you will be fine.
The lectures were engaging and posted as a video online the same day. The content wasn't too bad if you studied. Also, plenty of extra credit. Easy to reach by email (I emailed her before fall classes started, and she responded). Very friendly and open to helping you!
Not too much homework, made CEM 141 easy and basic to understand. Very joyful and charismatic professor.
Amazing professor! Does a great job with teaching chemistry, the class offers so many drops and extra credit.
She loves what she's teaching. Very informative lectures.
Genuinely great, I hated chemistry in high school and always narrowly passed it, but I scored well in her class.
Prof Cangelosi was great this semester. Chemistry is a tough subject for me but her teaching style really helped. She's enthusiastic and loves what she does. There is one small homework assignment after each class and extra credit activities as well.
Cangelosi really seems to care about the material she is teaching and the course itself was not the absolute hardest if you went to every lecture and did the homework correctly. There are a lot of drops and some extra credit opportunities too.
Dr. Cangelosi knows how to teach chemistry clearly and in steps that is easy to digest. This part isn't on Dr. Cangelosi but the MSU chemistry department but in the exams, there is 2 parts MCQ and FRQ, but the MCQ is 4 points per quesition... GOOD LUCK! However, if you find the best way to study for yourself, its not bad at all.
This professor was very kind and taught clearly. You knew what was expected of you and there were a lot of resources to help you. However, the exams can be quite rough make sure you study the way she tells you too.
exams are impossible and she goes through lectures so fast
Prof. Cangelosi is great!! She cares a lot about her students and the material being discussed. The class is very clear, but can be hard to keep up with, but as long as you study as you go its achievable to get a high grade
This professor is a very good lecturer and helper during office hours. She's very knowledgable and confident about the material.
I enjoy this professor. My low grade in this class was my own fault. The exams are in person and a bit hard, but if you put in the work, Prof Cangelosi does whatever she can to set you up to be successful. I have had two classes with her and she made chemistry enjoyable in both. I'd recommend taking her class, but be ready to study a bit!
Dr. Cangelosi was always very clear about the criteria for assignments and exams. She was always available for office hours, which really helped since the chemistry Teaching Assistants (TAs) were not always helpful. Grading between assignments, exams, and participation was more evenly weighted, making the class less stressful.
If you show up to class and take notes, do the homework (like 5 questions), study the learning objectives and do the mock exams before tests, you will do well. She makes this class manageable and honestly, very easy. (I had never taken chem before this class and am not very good with STEM but needed it for my major!!!)
average to be honest. lectures are decent, sometimes i felt that they weren't detailed enough so make sure to take notes during them and actually listen. the homework assignments are very easy but there are a lot. there is extra credit. as long as you put in the effort you'll do okay!
Lectures can be a little boring but this class is easy if you just apply yourself for a little more than the ten minutes it takes to do your homework.
Lectures may seem a bit redundant at times, but the instructor was very good at facilitating learning and providing resources for all the students if struggling. Assessments for this course were also easy, as long as you applied yourself to the homework.
I really liked Prof. Cangelosi. She's clearly very passionate about what she teaches and she really tries to engage everyone. Attendance is mandatory as she uses iClicker (graded on participation) but you get 6 drops if you take her class 3 times a week. Homework was also graded on completion. Just put in effort and you'll do good!
Cangelosi makes this 'weeder' class manageable. Homework is frequent but light, and there are plenty of easy extra credit opportunities. Lectures are engaging, and unstuck AI proved helpful for exam prep.
Tests are very hard. Her lectures are very informational. 10% of your grade is already done before the class even starts. Very test heavy. If you average a 80% on tests, then you should get a 4.0. Reading the textbook helps some people but not all. Very easy recitation and homework
Dr. Cangelosi's lectures were great. You'll learn a lot very easily. The issue for me came during the tests as the tests weren't very reflective of what you learned. The Chem help rooms are good but can get very busy. I'd recommend Dr. Cangelosi.
All of your exams are worth 15% of your grade, but if you go over the learning objectives and make some of your own flash cards (or however you prefer), you should pass no problem. Also, your final exam will replace your lowest exam if you score higher on the final! She's very passionate about what she does and the TA's in class are super helpful!
Her teaching style is great, I feel like I actually understood what was going on. There is HW after every lec but its super short. Attendance is mandatory but only worth 5% (go to class tho! Lecs are 50 min and go by quick). Before exams, GO THROUGH THE LEARNING OBJECTIVES!! These carried me. She wants you to succeed! Fyi I am NOT a stem person.
Professor was overall my favorite of the semester. She made it very clear about homework and such at the beginning of the semester and stuck to it. If you go to lecture and do your homework and reading, you should have no problem with this class!
I hated chemistry before this class. She is an amazing prof. I constantly went to office hours and she was very helpful. Her lectures were never short of informational and detailed. She outlines everything at the beginning of the semester. Just go to class, take notes, and do hw, and there's no reason why you shouldn't pass. Much love to her.
she teaches all of the material very well during her lectures. those days when students don't understand what's exactly happening she makes sure to explain extra so nobody falls behind. the homework is easy and the recitation is too. i would take her for every science class if i could.
For chem141 not being a super easy class I thought she did a great job. Was very informational in lectures and took her time covering the material. If you were confused it was more because the concept is hard not her teaching. Exams are majority of your grade, but if you go to help room and do learning objectives this is a very manageable class.
Dr. Cangelosi is a very nice and intelligent professor. She obviously knows her stuff and was normally very good at explaining it to her students.
This professor was very good at teaching chemistry. She was passionate about the subject and good at explaining things. So many things also get dropped at the end of the course, so you do not have to worry about missing class a few times. The exams can get a little hard, but studying and hard work will get you the A!
Easy A if you just show up to the lectures and study for a couple hours the day before. The tests are usually pretty straightforward. Homework is light and graded on completion, and the lectures aren't too boring. She tells you to read the textbook before every class, but in my opinion it wasn't really necessary.
Dr. Cangelosi is a very good professor. She clearly knows how to effectively teach this class. She is very kind and makes the class fairly accessable.
I struggled to understand concept she was teaching and felt she didn't explain well and moved on quickly. The TAs and ULAs were very helpful during lectures. I attended all lectures and recitations and still struggled and spent a lot of time studying. If you have experience in chemistry im sure you would enjoy her more.
Dr. Cangelosi is a great professor that explains things really well in her lectures. CEM141 isn't that bad, the only thing that sucks is the exams. If you study a lot you should do fine on them, it's just hard when each multiple choice question is worth 4% of your exam grade. Overall though not too bad, especially with Cangelosi.
Good luck!
Dr. Cangelosi was a great professor, she graded homework based on participation and went over the homework every morning before getting into the lecture. Her class is pretty interactive and the only "textbook" you need is online and you can download it from course resources. She was a great professor and you can tell that she loves her job.
Average exam question: Is water wet? (choose one) -Yes, but no -No, but yes -Yes, but maybe -No, but maybe -Yes, it is wet, because its wet -Yes, it is wet -No, because its a liquid -No, because its wet -Ham sandwich (The correct answer was ham sandwich)
i loved her personally. the class was mandatory, but it wasn't bad for only 50 minutes. you get homework at least once a week and there's a bunch of extra credit opportunities. the mock exams are very very helpful except the final. i thought the final was hard. just go to class and do the homework and you'll be fine
Worst professor in all of msu with a nasty grading structure that depends on if you come to lecture thrice a week at 9 am or not. She must be fired immediately
Very nice professor who made sure every student has a chance to get a 4.0. Clear grading expectations. Good explanations. Would recommend to anyone who is bad at chemistry. Goes a bit fast during lectures but all lectures are recorded and posted.
I made flashcards out of the lecture material after each class and ranged from 80-90 on the exams. If you start studying and pay attention from the first lecture, you will succeed. I didn't attend that many recitations, and it impacted my grade, which kind of upset me a little because I don't think attendance should be graded.
Prof Cangelosi was very good. She made lecture easy to understand and kinda fun. Just hated the subject but she was amazing. Tough subject
Amazing professor who goes very deep into concepts. There is iClicker for attendance but it is good for accountability, because if you miss a lecture you will fall behind.
She's the best prof at MSU for cem 141. just pay attention in lecture and study and you'll do well. super supportive and great lectures with clear criteria for what to know.
very good professor. lectures are online if you miss. it was my fault for not paying attention but she explains very well and the office hours and TA's are very helpful. would take again.
This class was tough mostly because of the exams, but did well in everything else. Dr. Cangelosi is an amazing professor though it's definitely just me being bad at the exams.
very good professor his class was tough mostly because of the exams, but did well in everything else
Dr C is an awesome lecturer, she is passionate about her material. I thought the class was boring and moved slowly, but that is not entirely her fault as there are so many sections of the class.
Dr Cangelosi is good at teaching I'm just bad at chemistry. Her class was better than the other chem prof I had. She's very kind and understanding. The TA's can be helpful.
Her exams are heavily weighted and quite difficult. You need to study consistently and pay close attention in every lecture. Don't rely on ChatGPT for homework—it won't help on the exams, which are tough even with solid studying.
Dr. C kind of talks to you like you're 9. This is something that annoys me personally. She seems nice, but some of the stuff in her lectures are made unclear or are skipped through fast. Her powerpoints are ridiculously long, and the slide numbers don't match her in class slides.
There are lots of slides and she goes through them fast sometimes, I took them on paper which made it harder to keep up. The TA's are helpful, difficult class (for me), and exams kinda are hard. She provides resources to study with and has office hours. Recitations can be helpful, but you'll be in a group of 3...
Explained the material very well. Pay attention in lecture and take good notes. Exams are not easy but if you study well you will get an A. Responds to emails very quickly as well. Would definitely recommend this professor.
Very passionate and helpful, exams can be hard if not studied for but she is very supportive and encouraging as well as easy to reach out to
If you can, take Dr. Cangelosi. I've never understood chemistry until I took her class. Her lectures are very easy to follow and understand. There are 4 exams and each are very similar to the lectures and mock exams she gives. You can tell she loves chemistry and she loves to teach. It's very easy to get above a 90 in this class
She is very passionate about chemistry and is willing to help in and out of class. You could ask her what an atom is and she wouldn't judge you. She explains topics well but tends to lecture about the most important stuff in the last 5 min of class. The tests are hard but if you study well, you'll do fine.
The homework for CEM 141 is straightforward, and the workload is very manageable. The exams are the only challenging aspect of the course; success requires a deep understanding of the material, which can be achieved by paying attention to the lectures. Professor Cangelosi is excellent at teaching. There are help rooms if you need them.
I would say that as far as a cem class goes she does a pretty good job teaching, she is accessible outside of class, and her lectures are easy to follow. HOWEVER, the lectures do not prepare you for the exams. The exams are very difficult, you have to study as you learn you cant cram before the exams and do well.
Very nice lady runs through lectures fast but keeps class engaged. Goes over homework. Make sure to do ALEKS and complete homework. Lot of extra credit offered so do that. I didn't use the textbook. I found tests easy and practice exam helpful. I studied for an hour before each test and always got above a 95. Just try and it'll be fine.
Dr. Cangelosi goes through lectures quickly, but also explains concepts to you as if you are a child, which I guess can be a good thing considering some concepts can be tricky. She goes over the homework assignments, her tests are straight-forward, and she is caring and lenient with grading. She is probably the best CEM141 professor at MSU.
I LOVED Professor Cangelosi! She did an amazing job with lecturing and made chemistry easy to understand. I would highly recommend this professor if you get to take CEM 141. The exams were a little difficult and confusing at times, but if you attend recitations and put effort into the homework, you're sure to do well.
genuinely such a nice person. lectures were very engaging which made learning the material much easier. she tells you what to do after each lecture and if you do it you will do well in the class. wouldn't want anyone else for cem 141
Dr. Cangelosi is a really good professor and person. She explains all the concepts in a way that makes them so easy to understand, and is just an overall nice person. There is a textbook, but I never bought it and easily 4.0ed the class. The exams are heavily weighted, but there are plenty of other categories that cushion your grade.
Great Chem prof, her lectures are very well planned and helpful to understanding the material. Homework very straightforward and short. Recitation activities not too stressful and were helpful. The exams are the hardest part of the course, but you are given good resources to study from. Worst part of course was the ALEKS assignment.
