took her class as sophomore in high school during summer....she gets information across clearly and as long as you study you should be good. Tests are fair and she is easy to approach. Overall great teacher!

well, i took this class last year, and i thought it was hard, i was failing, then on top of it bombed the final......but for some mysterious reason i ended up with a c!!! any teacher who passes me THAT easily gets an A in my book!!! was very understanding i liked that

this teacher is unfair, she plays favorites, doesn't give help, is never firm on her grading scale, and gives points by how well she likes you, and treats her students like a bunch of babies.

Both demands a lot of work esp. Bio 31. She was fair and really considerate. Gave extra credit and her best knowledge to teach the class. Even gave up her own time to help the students. Organized and on top of every single thing esp. with grades. Easy to approach and talk to when in need all you have to do is ask.

A very nice teacher. Well organized. Helpful. The class is easy if u do ur work regularly. There is a fair amount of extra credit in the class. The lectures are well laid out. The labs are fun and interesting. She really puts an effort to make things easy in this class. Ull love it.

Mrs. Virginia is such a wonderful teach. Not only does she give U a study-Guild of the exams, but also open to any questions you might have. Very knowlegeable and outstanding. I woull definitely recommend Mrs. Virginia to anyone searching for a wonderful teacher.

I admit, I was scared for my life and studied my ass off for her first test and received an A! Then I came to realize that everything you need to know is right on her study guides! Just read the book to clarify things and you're set to go. She offers extra credit [group pop quizzes to those who attend for xtra credit too] and is willing to help out

Hard class acts like you only have her class and nothing else in life. Sometimes will have lecture notes sometimes not. Will tell you to study certain things then will have something different on tests. So basically be ready to know everything...does a lot of will come back to that, later.... I would'nt take her again

Mrs. Gutierrez-Osbourne is the greatest. I took her for Bio 5 too and she is an excellent teacher. Her lecture tests are hard but can be done! Just study hard and seek her out for extra help. She is always more than willing to assist her students. She is not like some instructors who just give you the answer and require memorization!

Mrs. Gutierrez-Osborne is a difficult professor. Her lectures are so boring even the energizer bunny would fall asleep.zzzzzz.... In the beginning of the semester she told us she had told her children that,"I don't expect my kids to go to a city college, I don't expect them to go to a state college, I expect them to go to a UC." Not very pleasant!

This class is tough - the subject matter is dense - and the curriculum takes time and dedication! VGO is awesome. Brilliant but totally down to earth and approachable. She love the subject and hopes to share her enthusiasm. Hard work pays off. Plenty of extra credit. Lots of essays on exams - hard multiple choice ?'s. Great class, great prof!

This is a tough class but she is a good instructor. If you can make it past the first 9 weeks, you'll be fine. Follow her study guides and go over the questions in the book at the end of each chapter and you'll be set. Oh, also, do all the extra credit.

This class was a struggle for me because the lectures were boring and so was lab. Biology is one of my favorite subjects but this was overkill. She seemed to stray over to Microbiology too often. Difficult but study guides are great! Lab sucked. Definately plays favorites! Not very interesting and hard to keep your attention.

Mrs. VGO is a cool teacher. I've heard compaints of playin favs. The secret is to be one then it's all good. She is helpful and very easy to talk to and has a good sense of humor. I would take her again for sure.

Mrs. VGO is the best! I had her for lab only and she was great. I learned so much I can hardly believe it! The first part of the term is serious because we all had to learn how to be safe in lab, but after that we had so much fun! STUDY the media and the characteristics of the bugs as you go along.

This class requires A LOT memorization. Tests have essay questions which usually include detailed drawings you must memorize. Half of the study guide wasn't on most of her tests and covered totally different material. The tests are hard especially the lab exams. She wasn't very helpful during lab unless she liked you. Get a GOOD study group!

Had her for BIO 5 last semester and this class was pretty hard, a few essay questions on every exam that she is kinda hard on grading, you must know a lot of material... She is a great teacher who will help you but you got to earn your grade in her class.

very hard but you learn more for what you need in your major. study her ESSAYS and VOCABULARY, some multiple choices will fall into place. multiple choices are very hard because they are specific, but i got my points in the essays and vocab to pass the class with an A. dont be afraid to ask questions, it's your grade you are doing it for.

i forgot to add, she DOES NOT curve your grade. 90+ is an A. probably gives 25 extra credit points out of 450 points throughout the semester on her exams, not enough to change a grade unless you are borderline. it is easiest if you came 1 hr early to class and did the labs and ask questions. labs are fun and getting a 10 on gram stain is a pain.

I am currently taking Ms VGO, and I have really learned to like Microbiology. It's a fun class. She is a demanding teacher and a tough grader, however she gives you more than enough resources to be successful. Study her essays and vocab more, but reading the chapters is necessary to get A's on the test. Lab exams are easier.

These ratings are misleading and can almost without a doubt be split into catagories of "good" students and lazy students. If you're taking Micro you've been in college long enough to understand what it takes to get an A. VGO is called a "drill sergeant" but I think that's unfair. As far as favoritism goes, I have not witnessed it. Great class!

The most unfullfilling A received. The class is one big vocab test, study the study guide, read the book in class because she will go round & round a subject. It's simpler than she makes it out to be. She cares about your success, if you talk to her 1 on 1 she will help you to no end. Check your points, she will miss calculate. Every point counts.

Mrs. VGO is very nice and helpful. Labs were a lot of fun. Lectures were a little dry and boring. I actually learned more from reading the material on my own.

Mrs. VGOs tests are not well written. She repeated the same questions several times, tested us on material that hadn't been covered yet, and her unit tests took 3 hours (too excessive!). I was not a fan of this class.

Put plainly, the semester before I took her micro class, she had a fail rate of 75%. This was not only due to poor student ability, though it is a hard class. To her credit, she herself understands the subject very well; but she writes poor tests, on things not covered. She also provides too much irrelevant information. Very poor teacher overall.

Her style of teaching is awful. Her lecturing isn't effective & you literally have to teach yourself & Micro isn't easy to learn. She's also inconsistent and won't always inform students of a assignment change/due date. She has a fun personality but as a professor it's really tiring to put up with her. If you can find an easier professor take them.

Professor Gutierrez-Osborne is caring teacher. She is "old school" meaning she doesn't hand out easy grades -you will work for it. If you are trying to keep a high gpa for your nursing prerequisites, I recommend that you do not take another science class concurrently with her class. The depth of knowledge tested is way beyond entry level.

Difficult class. Her labs are fun and easy but her test do not correlate with the material she covers. Don't listen to her, just read your textbook in class. She's much more confusing than you think. The test are extremely detailed on topics that she brings little focus to except for the few essay questions. You have to earn every point you can get

She's very sweet, but her class was too difficult for me...her tests were very specified, so a lot of dedication is a must. Besides that, she was quite disorganized...she would walk in class and say, "What chapter are we on?" ...Wouldn't really recommend her.

Mrs. VGO is very nice and cool as a person, but her class is insane. Her tests are very hard, but she occasionally gives extra credit, however it is not in the 65% exam portion of your grade. She kind of teaches as if its the only class you have to study for. If you're only taking micro, be prepared to work. If you need an A, take another teacher.

Don't take her unless you absolutely have to. If you do, be prepared to work. Her lectures are useless and her exams are ridiculously difficult. Do every single assignment, especially the reading logs and all the extra credit, from the very start. Every point counts. *Be nice to her.* Ask for help, study with others, really try, & never give up.

I absolutely LOVE Mrs. VGO!!! She emphasizes at the beginning of the semester that perseverence is everything. The subject matter is difficult, but she helps you understand. Be nice and respectful, show up on time, and ask lots of questions. Do all of the homework - even the annoying-ass reading logs - and she'll do everything to help you succeed.

Mrs. VGO is a great professor. I took her online Bio 3 class with an on-site lab. The labs were fun and beneficial for the exams. Although the exams are tough, she does give extra credit opportunities. A lot of my classmates complained about her class, but it isn't the instructors fault that they were lazy slackers. Do the work and you'll be fine.

The weekly outlines are a bit annoying, all the test material comes from the book, before tests if you come to class she tells you everything that will be on the test and gives study guides with the EXACT test material, very disorganized make sure you keep track of your papers because she always puts in the wrong grades,easy class if u do the work

Mrs. VGO is a very kind and smart lady. Her class is difficult but it is 5 units so it should be. The labs are really fun. The lectures are pretty boring but she appreciates the students who come to class. Her lecture exams are the hardest part. Do the reading logs even though they are tedious, they are an easy 100 points.

I would not recommend. The lecture was supposed to be online and lab in class. Most of the lab hour she did lecture and then made you rush to finish your lab at the end of class, sometimes needing to stay late. Weekly Cornell notes for 1-2 chapters, and there's additional online homework. If you miss 3 or more labs you are dropped or fail.

Mrs VGO is a tough instructor, perhaps one of the hardest at FCC. The tests are confusing and hard to prepare for, along with the fact that she grades hard. She gives little extra credit, and requires outlines on all chapters. This class is hard, so don't expect to cruise through it. However she is a nice lady and will help you are nice to her.

Even with reading the book, going to lecture, going to lab and googling everything we learned, I still struggled. Put in the effort, work hard and biggest recommendation is to ask Mrs. VGO for help if you need it. She is by far my favorite teacher i've had and will try to help you if you ask for it so just put in the effort, read and study!

Tremendous job as a professor. Understanding of students and expectations are reasonable. Very lenient on grading assignments and late turn-ins, even going against the syllabus criteria. Consider possible personality conflicts. Professor can speak with a very monotone voice; Lectures can be very dull. Professor is extremely nice though.

Took a hybrid class and found it to be easy as long as you stay on top of the weekly assignments. She was lenient with late lab assignments and vocab & wants you to do well. I could tell she was excited about the class subject and enjoys the exhibits. Tbh I didn't do any of the (plentiful) vocab & always scrambled last minute, but loved her class.

Took Mrs VGO Bio 5 class and I would say if you're the type that needs a clear understanding of the Human Body for example Nervous System Cardiovascular System etc. then take another professor. Nice lady mono tone strict and sounds exactly like the text book. Labs are rushed definitely don't take her for summer if you want an A.

I took her over the summer (during the 4 week session) and got an A. She gives you all the answers, you just need to memorize it. Yes, you need to input time into this class, however not impossible to get an A. Lab test answers are given while you just need to study her slides to get a good grade in her lecture exam.

I liked Professor G-O's class. I took her 6 week course over the summer and it was a lot of information to learn, but it wasn't so bad. She's answers questions and is available for help if needed. She gives you all the answers for the short-answer questions on her test so MEMORIZE! Would definitely take her again!

I took her for 6-week summer session. She was nice and accommodating to everyone. Lecture tends to be a bit dull but if you have questions, its a great time to ask. Test are divided between MC and short answers (which the questions are given beforehand as study guides). She basically gives you half the points if you prepare for short answers.

She gave way too much work every week a packet with 10 or more pages and online homework and definitions. Way too much she is ridiculous didn't learn not 1 thing from her besides how much the class sucks life out of you. Not fun, not worth your time. & a field trip to the zoo with her yay & a packet on that too.

This is a very tough subject so don't expect a walk in the park. There are no multiple choice, and lots of essay questions so prepare to study. However, Mrs. VGO provides a clear study guide that is actually on the exam. There is a lot of online homework but you don't lose points for wrong answers like other BIO31 classes. Lab is really fun.

If you are going to take Micro with this professor, be prepared for some of the most difficult tests you will ever take. The majority consists of essay questions that require a lot of studying and detail. Also, expect around 300-400 questions of homework between each test. This class is not for the faint hearted.

This professor is good at what she does. Lecture does get boring because she's so mono-tone. Overall, Ms. O, will make you work for your grade in the class. If you're looking for an easy class, this one is not for you! You will need to study at least 3 -4 hours outside of class for the exams and another 2-3 hours for the labs! So STUDY!

I took her hybrid Bio3 class and I didn't expect it to be so homework heavy, but she is pretty lenient about late work. We had reading assignments, online assignments and lab assignments. It's very easy to fall behind in her class, so make sure you show up and do your work. And exams are really easy. All in all great professor.

I took her hybrid class and although she is an easy grader, there is a TON of homework every week. She assigns packets, online homework, and lab homework weekly. You can turn things in late and you'll pass if you do the assignments, but you never really know what to expect on tests. She isn't very organized either, so beware!

Very great professor. She is super passionate about what she does. I took her for biology 5 summer course, and although it requires lots of time and study, it is not hard to understand. Study guides are very helpful to her exams. Definitely look forward to taking Microbiology with her.

I took Professor Gutierrez-Osborne for Bio 5 in the summer. It was a 4 week class and it was tough. It requires your full attention for those four weeks. If you miss a day you will miss a lot.

Took micro over summer, HARD! Her tests are majority essay and fill in the blank with NO word bank. Usually an A student, received B, other students barely got C's. I studied daily and would still see things on tests that I NEVER studied. Only able to score B-C on tests. Wished I would have not been rushed to take micro and got another Prof.

Miss VGO expects all the students to know everything beforehand. Everyone who is taking this class knows that it is not going to be easy, but I think that it also depends on the professor for how he or she portrays class. In this case, she made it look so hard. On the very first day she started talking about organism names which I never heard of.

STUDY and READ! She will make you work for your grade! Always check on canvas for her powerpoints and notes. She always provide her study guide in Canvas. People who did not pass are people who didn't do the work and study!! Everything is basically from her study guide. Test are multiple choice for vocabs and short answer for essays. MEMORIZE!!

Took Bio 5 with Professor Gutierrez-Osborne. The connect online homework was super time consuming, but super worth it, as that's where I learned everything. I learned about 10% from her lectures, 30% from her study guides, and 60% from the homework. The study guides and homework will be your best friends.

Dont take this teacher. Poor communication with students. Creates her own rubric that isnt detailed but expects students to know it. Posts the rubric AFTER the assignment is due. Doesnt help students understand material. Waste of time. Study guides dont help you AT ALL on the test.

Professor Virginia designed the class where it is very easy to follow. There are chapter notes, quizzes, lab observations, exams/essays, and a final project. She provides study guides which follow closely with the exams so it's easy to get a good grade! She's also explains everything throughly. Definitely take her!

Virginia cares about her students and wants everyone to do well. Her study guides are so helpful and she gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Microbiology can be challenging, but she really does a lot to make sure her students succeed! Labs are also very fun and interesting. Professor Virginia was great. I don't regret taking this teacher for my Biology 5. I learned a lot from her and she goes over what is going to be on the tests a couple weeks before the actual test. Just study your material and you will be good. There's no failing this class, unless you just don't try.

VGO is awesome. Anyone that complains she favors people, from my experience, is typically someone that doesn't want to actually put effort in for their grade. Best tip for the summer- find the micro book on openstax ahead of time, and take notes on everything before the class even begins. It'll save you time and effort later! Unknowns proj was FUN!

Very old school and will have everything given to her handwritten. She is very knowledgeable with micro but is horrible at teaching it. Most of what she provides as lecture is very vague and does not cover her exams or essays for exams. Everything is self taught with very little help from her especially since she has no tutor. would not recommend.

This teacher was excelllent! I already got a F in Bio -31 by the other professor Nuria-Denis (although she is OK) The incredible thing is that when I took this class with Virgina, (although it helped to know what i was getting into my second time around) she was VERY helpful as long as she saw your EFFORT and willingingness to TRY :)

Difficult course regardless of the professor. Took as a hybrid course. Mandatory 2.5 hour labs, 2x a week. Stay on top of notes and labs. She's not very tech savvy but willing to help if you show effort & respect. In person lecture essays & lab exams are difficult, you must study. 1 project w/ a 15 min presentation. Not easy but would take again

This professor was horrible! I stayed in for about 2 months before I quickly learned she refuses to teach. She will laugh when you ask questions, and when you do any of the assignments, they never match the homework. So much work, so little lecture. Boring lectures as well. Take ANYONE else and save yourself a withdrawal AND money.

She isn't a bad teacher but she will just talk for an hour straight and won't bother on letting you retain the information she's saying. There are exams basically every week and only some of them get study guides. Messaging her for clarification will only met with a reply that is a few words that only confuses you more.

I took it as a hybrid course and basically had to teach myself the lecture material but it wasnt anything too hard. The labs were straightforward and she was very patient when explaining things I didnt understand. She guides you in the right direction instead of giving the answer. Lots of extra credit opportunities and her grading is more than fair

The course itself is challenging, but she made it extremely easy to follow along. She provides clear instructions and great demonstrations for the labs. She is also incredibly patient and will help work with you. This course does involve several exams, including lab, lecture, and essays.The lab practical and final project are also both manageable.

I highly recommend taking anyone else. This class is super hard because her lectures leave out a huge chunk of information about what you need and expect to know. She will answer your questions and is willing to help but she can be very passive-aggressive if she feels like you're not understanding what she wants and asking too many questions.

Overall, not a hard class if you STUDY AHEAD OF TIME & DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. Lab exams contain a lot of information & cannot be learned in one night. Lecture exams have essay questions that are given ahead of time. Practice writing them before the exam and you'll ace them. Professor VGO is very helpful so don't hesitate to ask for help. Good luck!

I enrolled in a hybrid class, which means you'll need to take charge of your own learning. Please follow the lab exam study guide. While the lecture exams are handwritten. The finals were actually quite easy. Half of it consisted of the students' presentations, the other half focused on identifying the organisms responsible for various diseases.

She's not rude or mean but gosh does she give so much HW and is a tough grader. She takes away points if an organism is misspelled. She expects 4 page written notes for each chapter you read and she grades them. If she thinks you missed information on the notes she doesn't give you full credit. She even grades how much time you spent on canvas.

She has a heart FULL OF GOLD! No complaints about her personality. But when it comes to Microbiology, I think it's just how the curriculum sets up the course. TBH, I did not expect it to be how it were to be when I started. I'm still in the class and will probably end with a B or C. Guess my biggest weakness is Micro. We all love you, VGO!

Professor Gutierrez AMAZING! Highly recommend you enroll to her class. She makes Labs fun and engaging. Attendance is important, and getting to class on time, there is a lot of memorization involve when it comes to lab exams. For all labs make sure you wear your lab coat and put on safety glasses before star of experiment. Lecture exams are online.

Professor Gutierrez a is amazing teacher! We had to take notes from the online textbook (free) and turn them in for a grade and we also had weekly online quizzes, also turn in lab experiment worksheet weekly. I would recommend anyone to take this course with Professor Gutierrez! Be prepared this class is very time-consuming. The first essay exam is taken at home and the rest in person. It's like being homeschooled. She is very very tough grader. Essay and fill in the blank exams, no multiple choice. Exams are every other week with lecture and lab. She was super condescending and makes you feel dumb if you ever have a question. I was an athlete and if I ever missed class for a game (excused btw) she would dock me 25+ points on participation, NO MAKE UP AT ALL.

She overworks you and has so many exams. 4 lecture exams and 4 lab exams and 4 essay exams. Lab exams are all fill in/open response no multiple choice at all. she also gives 2 quizzes a week and you have to study 2 labs for each quiz. so total you are studying 4 labs for 2 quizzes.

You'd think the 10 point 4 pages of reading notes you have to take are easy points. You are wrong. If it's not exactly what she wants she will take off points. I don't know why. They're my notes to help me not her. You'll end up scoring a 43/60 no matter how detailed they are even 6 pages
