She's an ok teacher, but if you dont like to be talk to you like your slow, don't pick her
She's a pretty cool teacher. I mean I took her for two different courses. She does kind of teach like everyone doesn't know any better, but hey a lot of the people in her classes don't.
she makes alot of mistakes on the board and sometimes worries us. she is usually pretty great at explaining things. you will always have homework in this class, lots of it. test two will be the hardest, the other ones are easy.
Great teacher who simplies math. A little scary, I found it hard to approach her. Her class was great preparation for 1310.
I'd have been better suited getting a private tutor. Ms. Leigh, as she prefers to be called, begrudges you assistance, speaks to you as if you are an idiot- whilst making mistakes on her board work and filling her notes with typing errors.
I took this class online. This is very difficult material to learn online. I would highly discourage anyone from taking statistics in that manner. The teaching assistant is great when he is available in the math lab.
this teacher did not know what she was doing. she confused all of her students. most of us never went to class. we were better off teaching being each other's tutors
hollyer was a good teacher, she did make a lot of mistakes and got confussed but always offered to help. I got good grades over all..and her quizzes and exams were pretty easy...take her only if u have the patience to deal with her mistakes
I do not know how this professor achieved a job at a university. She is completely incompetant. In most of the classes she ADDED wrong. This teacher should seriously consider retirment!
Mrs. Hollyer is a clear teacher with a few mistakes and errors in her solving. This class is very easy if you've already taken Algebra in High School. The WebCT assignments are easy. You can retake your quizes and practice tests online till the due date. Homework due everyday in class. It's not bad.
Very good teacher, but does mistakes on the board ocassionaly. But always answers students questions. Saves a student a trip to math lab..
Those negative comments sound like whiney, unprepared freshman. I'm horrible at math and she actually helped me learn more and this is the first math class I recieved a B in since high school. She is very understanding and accomadating to students needs.
Easiness has nothing to do with this class. It all depends on whether you have time for your WEBCT quizzes or not. Her class, though, is pretty unclear. She gives you this tone as if you should already know the material. If your not familiar with it before hand, don't take her. She speed-teaches.
Does her own printable lecture notes which makes the quick pace of the lecture easy. Answers all questions about hw, quizes, and tests. May seem scary and unapproachable but in reality she is very friendly and knows some of her students very well. I have never seen her be rude and she made sense.
I have to agree with the guy/girl who said that the bad comments about Ms leigh on the page sound like whinney freshman. Although i am a freshman, i found the class to be very clear and cohesive. If you can't pass her class, then you need to go back to remedial math. If you go to all the classes an
Her lectures are very clear. A +++ instructor.
really easy class, so easy that i opted not to go to class and still made an "A" just by turning in the hw,doing the webct stuff, and taking the test.it is very beneficial to go to mathlab and hour before the test an take a copy of the practice test with u.by doing that my lowest test grade was a "b".she makes mistakes, but seemed ok when i did c her
What can I say, her class was easy but BORING! I;m not sure if I actually learned anything..I just made As somehow.
Easy, easy class! Easy A! As long as you actually take all the quizzes, practice tests, and tests it is very difficult to not make an A. Everyone cheats on the daily attendance quizzes. All you have to do is show up 20 minutes before the end of class and get the questions and/or answers from someone. This class will definitely help your GPA.
Algebra - you either love it or you don't. I've struggled all my life and this is hard, hard, hard. But, there are lots of ways to get the grade...do all you quizes until you get an A, go to math lab often and stay with it - got an A but I gave it everything I had. She is very helpful one-on-one so go to the LAB! She's also very nice person!

boring as ****
She's a great teacher. She is very clear in her lectures and has her own set of printable notes that allow you to follow along with what is being discussed. She doesn't leave anybody behind. She'll answer any question and go over stuff a million times till everyone understands.
I don't recommend this teacher. She goes too fast during the lectures and makes frequent mistakes because of it. I really can't make out the homework without help from people in higher math because she is so unclear during lecture. I took algebra in high school but didn't remember much and she didn't help. I won't taking her again.
She's an easy teacher but half of the time she barely knows what shes talking about. Goes quickly through the material and takes attendance everyday.Personally I find her class boring but easy b/c of the quizzes and practice tests. You will definitely do a lot of learning out of class b/c not very clear. Not a good teacher if you suck at math.
Encourages questions, has website with notes to follow her lectures (helpful). Coursework: weekly online quizes (unlimited number of tries, only best score counts), online practice tests for extra credit (great review), and nightly homework (usually 6 problems) but drops 4 hw grades. She sometimes makes mistakes when reading off her notes which was
Her class is easy b/c she gives good ex credit. attendence counts. there r lots of quizes onloine, everything is online but she goes over the material really fast in class n smtimes its hard to learn. i mostly did everything online, n then went to Casa tutorin n learned it all. Casa tutoring really helps!!! otherwise the class would be more harder.
she has no idea whats going on with the online stuff but you can figure that out. she is very easy because she starts the class like you were back in high school so you already know most of the stuff. lots of grades equals lots of chances to bring your grade up. test easy, daily quizes easy, online quizes easy, homework very easy
She was an ok teacher because she made too many mistakes, therefore once you grasped the concept she would screw it up with mistakes. I couldn't focus in this class because it was too confusing. If you can take someone else, because she is not the best, consider Hafeez or constante.
Very good! Really liked her. Easy to get an 'A'. Take her and u'll do great. Quizes, tests ets are not even hard and a lot of chances to keep ur scores up.
Ms. Hollyer was awesome. She's a cute lady. It's not hard to pass her class at all. She goes through the exact material that will be on the test. Personally, I hardly showed up to class and still got an A! She was always there for tutoring as well. Very helpful lady.
I've only been in this class for 2 days now, and she's such a horrible teacher! I had Constante last semester for MATH 1310, and she was mainly a visual teacher. (She's great, btw.) Hollyer's teaching style is for people who learn better through listening. Most of the time, it's like she's just trying to sound smart. ex: x^2 = x "quantum squared"
She is always making mistakes and she never shows her work.
I recently finished up with Calculus II and I must say that she is by far one of the best Math teachers I have ever had the priveledge of studying under. I am not an excellent Math student, but she was ready and willing to help... even beyond Pre-Cal and her class!
Overall a good prof. moves at a fast pace so must be able to keep up
She is very helpful
Fast teacher. Makes mistakes sometimes, but quick to correct them. Helpful if you go to mathlab, but not so much during lectures. coordinator for precal tests. keeps you the whole time and gives 5 poppers throughout the lecture. overall, she's really nice. Take her, but print out her notes ahead of class or it will be a little hard to keep up.
very easy. very helpful. material presented in clear and effective manner. overall a very easy class. she is a very nice and easygoing person
She was a pretty easy teacher. If you're good at math and grasp it easily, then she's a pretty good teacher. But if you're not so good at math, I could see how she would be a bad teacher/went too fast.
vey good class and professor is very willing to help just ask!
She moves quickly but only b/c there's a lot of material to cover. Quick to correct any errors and never afraid to admit when she's wrong. ALWAYS available for additional help and is the nicest most practical math teacher I've ever had. I never felt like I was good at math until I took her class. Thanks for everything Hollyer!
She is Horrible!!! She goes really fast. Doesn't explain herself. Doesn't even go step by step. If you are not good at Math, I recommand not taking her because she will just confuse you. She is nice and all but she can't teach. Her technique of teaching is very different and hard to understand/follow. I am good at Math but her teachings confuses me
DONT TAKE. not helpful at all. repeatedly mad mistakes you'd have to cath her on. appeared very scatter-brained.best bet is to teach yourself....which I did
She's very nice and funny. I would say something nice about the subject but I hate algebra.
Very helpful and her philosophy is huge on collaborative work. This is the 3rd class I take with her. The worse class was MATH 3305 and it was simply because it was strictly online and had no face to face meetings. The best class to take with her I would have to say is Math 3306.
do not take this teacher. she teaches at a very fast pace as if she's reviewing. i did not learn anything from class, i had to teach myself everything. she always makes mistakes while teaching and has to be corrected every class period by a student. you have to turn in homework every class period and do poppers.
She is a nice lady, but she doesn't know how to teach well. She goes really fast like if she was teaching herself and if we knew everything. She assumes that we know everything thats why she goes so fast. She skips many steps. so if you are not good at math then don't take her. I am good at math and i still had to struggle to get an A-.
does not know how to teach AT ALL
I took Math 1300 with Hollyer & currently taking Math 1310. She moves fast--but in truth most of what she is covering the students should already know. I work with a tutor and stay 2 sections ahead of her in the book. If you can't follow along, you need to get a tutor and/or do 1300 first.
Oh my, very horrible. Worst teacher ever. Goes too fast and complicates the simplest matters. I wish I could have gotten out of that class when I had the chance. Struggling through everything. No one around me even understands what she teaches.
bet your favorite body part she is the worst teacher ever! she doesn't teach in the first half of the semester and it doesn't much the second half. definitely wouldn't be my first pick for pre-cal.
Ms. Hollyer is by far the best math drofessor for those studying to be a math teacher.
She makes class go by pretty quickly and it's hardly ever boring. She makes alot of mistakes so you have to watch her. She skips ALOT of steps which causes people to ask questions and wastes alot of class time. If you study the notes, the book, do h/w, and quizzes you will do fine. If your still having trouble, go to CASA.
I was so happy to have gotten through this class with out going crazy. She taught way to fast for a class of non science majors. She would always waste extended amounts of time on examples "we would see in CAL 1 & 2." I dont think she understood that her class was the last math we needed. Stay away from this prof if you're not into math
she didnt explain the matierial very well, and continously would go off topic into math problems for other classes. If you can teach yourself, then take it.
She is a good teach and knows her stuff there is no reason you should fail the class all of the homework gets opened up again and you can take them over and over till you get 100. And you have extra credit on all tests
She's okay as a Maths teacher since Maths is not an easy subject. Also you can follow the lectures online if you didn't pick up in class. She keeps the class awake with her good sense of humor. The streaming lectures are great!I recommend her.My Advice do your online quizzes and exam preparation as many times as possible to gain speed for the exams
she's not so good of a teachr she knows her stuff but her teaching strategy sucks! i've always been good at math but she's confusing! you'll end up in casa the whole semester or just take larson!
I didn't learn a thing for this class. We worked on hw in class and you had to go to the front of the class and teach it to the rest of the class. If you copy what they write on the board and turn it in as your homework, you'll get an A. Her midterm and final merely reflects with class work. Ask around when taking the tests so you can get hints.
Teaching style is very complicated, she is nice person, not good professor. She makes SOOOO many mistakes while going over material, make sure to bring eraser. Recorded class, but watching video is brutal, you need to figure most of things on your own. Every class have to turn in HW, and take in class quiz, thats how she keeps track of attendence.
she is so confusing. at least half of my class was always complaining about how they couldnt understand anything she was talking about. I couldnt either. the only reason I got an A was because I already knew everything she was ATTEMPTING to teach. I learned it all in 11th grade math. if you're bad at math, I dont recommd her
overall she's ok. If math is not your thing, then dont take her. I learned pre-cal in high school so i somewhat know whats she talking about. She's nice, i like her but she goes really fast on everything.
She is really annoying. She goes way to fast and most of the time she messes up, but nobody notices because shes going too fast. Everyone fails the tests because she gives the wrong information. She goes over one example for a type of question and youre left hanging because you can't fully understand how to do it with just one example. I hate her.
She makes every thing complicated when it is just plain simple. She makes so many mistakes. I don't recommend her and you are better off taking the indian professor or majorie marks as they rarely teach precal. you will find yourself in CASA most of the time asking for help. most of the students in the class are confused as she goes to fast! B-
Ms. Hollyer is the BEST!!! for those that says she is too hard it is becuase YOU ARE NOT TRYING!!! I have now taken 3 classes with her and I LOVE HER!! she is the BEST!!! JUST DO THE WORK GURANTEED "A" for sure!
Great teacher, very enthusiastic, very funny. Take advantage of her tutoring in CASA.
=P. She's fast and confusing and teaches like were gifted and talented. She can be funny and her hints help a lot for the test since its over a lot of material. Just focus on the hints and those kinds of problems and you'll be ok. HW sucks..too long
The class is nota blow off. She does go fast but answers your questions and is a great teacher, if you go to CASA, she goes slow and helps you understand really well. She's very nice and funny, take care. I have a B+ so far i think, but I'm sure it'll be an "A".
She's funny and silly (makes alot of mistakes on the projector). But i don't learn much in her class. i have to go home and read the book myself and get a lot of tutoring at casa. She is nice though. The tests aren't always the same as the review so be careful!do your hw and quizzes on time!BE ON TIME to class b/c hw is due @ start of class.
Awesome teacher nice, extremely helpful and very understanding. Just listen in class and you will have to be a moron to not make an A. I highly recommend this teacher
Ms. Leigh is a good teacher she goes through her notes and teaches the material, but sometimes she can go too fast. She gives daily attendance poppers and most of the time she would mess up on the answer choices and end up giving us the answer! I would not recommend her, the only reason I got a B+ is because I took Pre-Cal in high school.
she is a nice lady but as far as a teacher she goes extremely fast! she does record her lecture which is nice if you miss class. she messes up a lot in her lectures though and as to go back and fix it. i had to go to casa for help alll the time because she went over stuff too fast. shes not horrible but i wouldn't recommend her.
Great teacher!
I think that she is a great teacher. If you are confused or lost just go see her and ask her! She will help you and make sure you understand. This class had only 2 test and daily attendance as grades. It was all group homework and she gives you hints for the test!
Worst math teacher I've ever had she abbreviates everything can't explain anything and is the dullest person ever...DON'T TAKE HER FOR ANY MATH CLASS!!!!
I took her for both Math 1310 and 1330. I LOVE HER! If u can keep up w/her then u will do fine. I got 100s on her quizzes and practice exams which are exactly like the exams. U can pass her class with an A. I made an A in the class. She is really helpful and really sweet. I would recom. her or Prof Marjorie Marks(I took her for Math 1313 n 1314).
Isn't really that helpful. Uses a lot of abbreviations that are hard to understand. Always poppers. Makes lots of mistakes when teaching. Easy class for a math lover. Everything is done online. Homework everyday.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Can't teach at all and uses long ridiculous abbreviations. Always has mistakes on poppers and makes a lot of mistakes when she's giving an example. I would never take her.
Worst "professor" ever. The homework and poppers are mandatory by the Uh math department so that unavoidable but not a good teacher for someone who is not mathy. Stay away! B
She taught recording the class, wrote everything on her computer and it was projected on to the board which didnt help in the learning process because you could hardly keep up with where she was, she wasn't much help in tutoring because she figured you should know it, the homework was fairly easy, this class is easier just alot to keep up with
Hard to keep up with and makes a lot of mistakes in her lectures. Nice lady though.
Took online. True, she does make mistakes on poppers & lessons;and yes, she still uses weird abbreviations. Very nice teacher. If you need tutorials, I recommend you tube.
She's the worst. Ridiculous abbreviations, she moves faster than even SHE can comprehend. Our class is constantly correcting her, and she never seems to catch her mistakes. If you can get another teacher take them.
overall good teacher. show up for class and use vnet if you get lost. sometimes is a bit fast and incomprehensible due to time constraints.
STAY AWAY!!! WORST PRECAL PROFESSOR EVER!! Goes way too fast on trig units than she can even process. If you don't already know this stuff, don't take it with her. Notes are unorganized, she assumes you know things, and she messes up all the time!(take beatrice or MARJORIE MARKS-she's the best) However: hws are easy and she posts recordings online
She is a nice lady, but moves to fast for even her, makes too many mistakes, and the abbreviations are ridiculous.
I took this professor for MATH 3303, 3304, and 3305. She does make some mistakes so dont be afraid to correct her. But overall she is a pretty good professor and the only option for the 330_ courses for education. If you do the HW and study a bit for the tests you will do fine. I made more than 100% on many of my exams because of the extra credit.
Do all online homework and practice quiz
lazy.
She's a really nice lady but do not take her. The course was easy at first but when we moved on to adanced things it went way to fast nad it was so unclear jumping from one thing to another, and I'm good at math... Not sure how i did in the class, I looked up youtube videos just to solve my homework and prepare for my test...
i was scared to take her...but i realized she is such a good teacher..yes she makes mistakes but shes very helpful and nice i never studied for a test and got an A in the class she even tells you the layout of the test. just take her you wont regret it!
She always skips steps, notes are unclear and hard to follow, the way she does the homework is tedious and she is just overall a bad professor. Don't take her.
super lazy. doesn't do her job very well. did i mention LAZY? u practically study on your own.
She's a pretty cool professor and a really nice lady! so Bubbly all the time :) she does make a lot of mistakes in her lectures but don't be afraid to correct her! she appreciates that. Yes it is quite a bit of self study time but her quizzes and tests are SUPER EASY! practice tests are really similar to the real tests. Overall the class is easy.
If your going after middle school math education, dont cuz then youll have to take her! class is useless and i dont see the point of it...most middle school kids wont be able to work out problems like these. Just change your major to overall math major and youll be happy you did! i know i am :)
Quite a few mistakes during her lectures, but nothing that will leave you confused or won't be corrected. Homework is done online, and quizzes are taken everyday in class. Tests, and online quizzes are incredibly easy. If you took Pre-Cal in high school this will simply be a review.
She messes up a lot during lecture, but correct her and she won't get mad. The tests are very hard (except the third one) and you basically have to teach yourself. There is a quiz everyday so make sure you go everyday. There is also homework every Saturday which I forgot about almost every week so make sure you do it. She is very nice and helpful.
She goes very fast but she explains everything very clearly. If you are taking her pre-calc class be sure that you try and freshen up on your trig functions before starting class. She doesn't stop to explain them. The tests are extremely easy and she does a review for each one. She also exempts you from the final if you have a B- after the 4th test
Went way to fast and messed up very often. Do not plan on her helping you, go to tutoring if you want to learn anything.
Nice Lady but HORRIBLE teacher. She makes mistakes all over her lectures and cant work without her notes;you have to do 60% of self learning because she is useless; she is not clear explaining and expects you to go out and pay your own tutor. I'm getting an A so far for my self-teaching; 60% of the class dropped. My Objective Review.
Very easy class. As long as you pay attention in class, do the poppers and the hw you should do fine. Heads up her abbreviations are ridiculous.
She is a funny lady and class is easy as long as you attend and do homework, quizzes, and poppers it is easy to make an A. She does make a few mistakes but she doesn't mind being corrected like some professors.
I took her class b/c I needed hours for fin aid. I made a B in calc i took in mini semester for 2 wks and A on both calc 2 and 3. I must confess this class was easy but the homeworks were hard.. she made class too boring and complicated with all her mistakes. If you can avoid her but if you must take her, do your hw. Manage to make A, idk how, lol
If chosen for an elective dont do it. She is sweet and helps out but its a useless topic and she told us we wouldnt use this outside the class. The info is hard to understand. Everyone thought this class was hard but we passed. Midterm,final,hwk,presentation&4 papers She reads papers if you go to her off hrs. I somehow got an A so I'll keep it.
She's nice but she is a horrible teacher. She doesn't explain well at all but assigns so much hw. DON'T TAKE HER!
I would say shes awful. Messes up 5-8 times each class period on different problems and makes us do homework she skipped over in class completely. If there is any other teacher available for the course, I recommend them, not Hollyer.
She's a nice lady but a horrible professor. She messes up a lot in class and most of the times find herself confused. I went into this class thinking it'll be easy, but i'm barely maintaining a C. She doesn't clearly explain herself. If there's another professor choose them, not her.
The class is very easy if you have some background on precal. She goes very fast and makes many mistakes. If you are good at math you should have no problem with this class. The grading is easy and there is extra credit available on exams. She drops some homework's and poppers. Also you have to come to class.
I badly want to leave a nice review as Hollyer is such a sweet lady, but she makes many mistakes throughout each lecture and for someone who struggles with math to begin with it is a bit confusing. When she does get it right, she teaches the material well. She goes a bit quicker than I would prefer, but I guess that's out of her control.
Honestly you don't even have to show up to class at all ..if your popper situation is taken care of lol. but it doesn't matter what teacher you take with this class..make sure when your doing the homework assignments that you click HOMEWORK HELP and it will explain way more that what u learn in class TRUST ME. EXEMPT FROM FINAL
Great professor. Took her for Higher Geometry, expect 3 - 700 word papers, a term 1500 paper, along with a few homework',a 5 minute presentation, a mid-term, and a final exam too. Just complete all assignments and you would make a good grade. Take her! GO COOGS.
I took her in summer semester for Statistic. She goes to fast sometimes or skips steps that might confuse you. Though, she is open for any questions and willing to help. Her homework are difficult but her grader is not strict on grading it. She made the test easy for us just study the study guide that is given and she gives extra credits!!
She's a sweetheart, I like math so I found it easy. CASA was my best friend, though. They helped a lot & checked my work for me. She does go pretty quickly, and mess up here and there but overall not so bad. Poppers & you can opt out of final. <-Like any other math class
Great teacher! Very helpful! Most of grade is participation and quizzes poppers.
Math classes for middle school teachers beware, the classes are all hard. She skips in her own note. There are no other teachers as of currently. Prepare to rely on each other. Study for everything. Check everything. Do not skip homework you need all the points. Do not rely on the notes.
This is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken, but Ms. Leigh will help you get through it if you ask! Make appointments to meet with her in her office, and ASK FOR HELP. She is more than willing to do what she can to make sure you get a good grade in her class, you just have to show her that you're willing to work hard for it.
Ms. Leigh is a good professor; she engages the class in thought-provoking group exercises. There is usually a daily grade every class, so I would still show up even though attendance is not mandatory. Tests are very easy and the papers are fairly graded. If you do what you're supposed to do and do it on time, you'll get an A without a doubt.
There's a total of 6 homeworks but don't let that fool you they are time consuming. She is a sweet lady and cares about her students. Don't be shy to ask for help she is willing to help. The class isn't easy but you'll survive if you stick in groups!
As long as you are in class every time and do your work you will be fine. there is activities in class and have to be turned in. She is a very easy professor if you pay attention you should be fine do all the homework and pay attention.
a great choice. She is a bit disorganized but she has it together most of the time and she knows her stuff and she cares. that's the most important thing.
3 essays, 1 midterm, & final is an essay. Class was fairly easy, she takes attendance by having you turn in an easy worksheet at the end of class. This class isnt nothing to worry about if you show up to class.
4 essays, final essay all take home, and in class FR final. Class was fairly easy, her attendance is taken by completing a worksheet at the end of class. This class isn't nothing to worry about if you show up to class and study for the final
you can tell she puts minimal effort for this class. she uses the same online lecture videos from 2014 where her microphone sounds like it's 5 miles away even with the volume all the way up. there's little to no resources you can use and you have to write 3 different essays over the same topic through the course of the class. an annoyance at best.
She has not been accomodating for different disasters to hit the Houston area and student issues were not considered. It is disappointing that future teachers are not receiving a good role model.
Mrs. Leigh is so sweet and helpful outside of the classroom. She's not very good at lecturing and makes things more difficult than they need to be. However, the content was easy to learn on my own with the textbook. If you make a B or higher in the class, you can opt out of the final which is a huge win in my book. I'd recommend her to anyone!
Courseload is pretty average for a math class. The content is not difficult but requires you to keep up with the class throughout the semester. Ms. Leigh is beyond helpful, all you need to do is reach out! Got my first A in a math course because of her help. Exams are almost exactly the practice test. HW and quizzes are necessary to do well.
