She's a great and fun teacher! She makes Spanish fun!
This teacher's writing was horrible. She went too fast, too much emphasis on the south america map, if I wanted to learn geography, I would have taken a Geography class.

She ridicules students in class. Very demanding.

very hard, unrealistic
This professor is extremly difficult. Plan on working your ass off for a "D"! DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!
Very good teacher if you want to really learn spanish!
DON'T TAKE HER CLASS. very hard. goes to fast. expect alot of homework...and tests. She is not helpfull at all if its ur firts spanish class
DO NOT Take her, shoot yourself nstead! she is mean rude and down right rediculous. her class is unrealistic 2 finals instead of 1 have to stand in class and give it awful no note cards!
Look, if you do your work you'll do fine. You also need a sense of humor about yourself. She does give a lot of HW but at least it pertains to what you're learning and your tests. No busy work. Hey i got an A in 102, no prob.

great teacher if you want to learn spanish
I learned more about Spanish in one month in her class than 3 years in high school. she sometimes can seem mean, especially on the first day. also, she likes to spring oral presentations on you at the end of the semester.
you have to work hard. tests are hard, she moves fast, and dont chew gum
Really mean Lady. Hard grader, she made a mistake on my test once and would not correct it. also she hates men cause her boy friend dumped her when i was in that class fall 02.
she sucks don't take this class...she's hella mean!!!
this lady is the most intimidating witch i've ever experienced. the only teacher to ever make me cry. she needs to take anger management
She is a great teacher! You learn a LOT from her class.I took her 3 semesters and learned more about the spanish then i did in 8 yrs.She does give lots of hmwk,do all parts of it.Remember to study the maps very well.Great class, don't expect a free ride.
She is so moody, you never know if she will be mean or nice, so just stay away! She would be a great teacher if she was nice.
A lot of homework, dont chew gum, she tries to scare you off the first day. Just try and get on her good side! A lot of work but its all relevant to your tests...learned a lot in this class! and study your dayam maps
excellent professor! if you want 2 learn spanish fast, take her. she doesn't waste time.
I had her for 2nd and 3rd levels. She is awesome, but it is a lot of work.
Yes she is intimidating the first day, yes it will pass once you have gotten to know her. She is an excelent teacher. The best I've had! Just do what she asks for and there will be no problem. Lots of work, its worth it. Only take this class if you are serious about learning spanish.
She has her days of being nice but those don't come around very often. She moves fast. If you are good at learning languages shes the one to take.
This teacher was the worst I've ever had. She has no sense of compassion at all for her students, and only cares about her and her own ways. I couldn't stand her. Don't take her!
The most hate-filled professor I have ever encountered. Major control and anger issues, completely unreasonable. She's well educated, and would probably be a phenomenal professor if she was not such a terrible person. Never hated anyone this passionately. Do yourself a big favor, take anyone else.
It is amazing she is still employed at this college. The class started with 45 people, only 14 took the final. This is due every bit to her. She is not interested in helping students learn. She is unreasonable in every way, grades extremely hard, and goes out of her way trying fail you. Stay away.
She is an interesting person and she makes class enjoyable. It was a hard class; she gives a lot of work to practice Spanish on, but hey- it's how you learn any language.
Don't pay attention to the bad reviews, the class is a challenge, but not nearly as bad as others say it is. Virginia is amazing! Possibly the best spanish teacher I've ever had, she knows what she's talking about and ties in span culture as well. Show her respect and she'll do the same. Take it!
Don't get on her bad side. Ever.
Any positive reviews are most likely by girls, since she seems to hate men. Take this class at your own risk. You wont get as good of a grade as you might deserve. Worst class in my college career.
The worst professor I've ever had! She is completely overbearing and has MAJOR control issues. Your questions are unimportant to her and refuses to see that when the entire class is below a C adverage that her teaching skills are lacking. She is completely inept to be a professor at any school.
Worst teacher ever. I aced 101, and have put in 10x the effort into this class. The class is designed to fail students. Total control freak. She does have moments where she's great though. She is good with helping students 1 on 1. It's just hard to get her to sit down and do it.
She is very difficult, she starts out as if the whole class had her for 101 and know what to expect from day one. No flexibilty is what her motto should be. If you can't complete just one problem of the homework then the whole thing is worth 0 points. If you what a challenge then you are prepared.
I won't take up any of your time. In one phrase i will summarize my opinion, and that is "SHe is the STRICTEST teacher you will have in your life", and as she says herself "I ONLY BELIEVE IN ZEROS AND NOTHING ELSE". Believe it or not, two thirds of the 201 class failed. Now, you be the judge.
Virginia is an experience you should not miss. Her passion for her work is clearly evident. Just enjoy yourself as much as you can by participating fully and contributing to the feeling of a 'team'. Hard to believe nobody gives her a Hottie rating. I think she deserves a very high 'Hot' rating. 'Made it hard to hear what she was saying sometimes.
She's definately strict! But as long as you stay on her good side you'll do well. Follow her instructions EXACTLY, I mean EXACTLY, the way she instructs you to down to the last staple! As tough as she is she is a good teacher.
¡Profesor Naters es grande! Su clase es diversión y el interesar. Ella es muy agradable y hermosa. Usted aprenderá el mucho en su clase. Pero no haga su enojado, apenas hacen lo que ella le dice hacer.
She's amazing.
Virginia is absolutely wonderful. Dont pay attention to bad reviews... if you dont want to do the work, dont take the class.... If you do whats asked youll do fine. She does not have exams... only in class activities she monitors your progress with... she is helpful, pleasant, and wise. Anyone who has really listened will come out better than they entered, I guarantee it!
she's a cool professor. she likes to teach the class the way that it is meant to be. she goes by word by word. cracking jokes talking about her clans. and how she grew up hating things. she's not a guy basher. the thing is if she offers to let you get out of class early there is something up her sleeve. usually she give extra credit points for no reason at all just because you stay. just remember no CHICLE! anyways she's there when you need her help. and if you send her an email she'll also give you e.c.
Do not ever miss class!! Even when your uncle dies because she will not care!!
I think she is a good teacher, mostly because she knows what she is talking about, she is spanish, not some engish person trying to past as. I can understand why peps don't like her, but her class is challenging and I love the way she presents the material, it's not for everyone I guess!
Difficult class at times. Quite a bit of homework. Ms. Naters can be hard sometimes, but she has a good sense of humor and overall, keeps the class interesting.
She is such a good teacher. She may seem intimidating at first but after a week she calms down. She teaches Spanish the way that it should be and you actually remember what you are taught(unlike other classes). I really recommend taking her, she is such a great lady and I'm planning on taking her for my third course in Spanish.
This woman single handedly ruined my perfect GPA. She is intelligent and knowledgeable about her subject, but she has major control issues. We're in college, I don't need my teacher to show me how to organize my binder, thank you. If you don't like taking constant crap from a teacher, she is not for you.
geez guys this is just another class very eager to help other learn spanish.try moya for your first class of spanish.then you'll regret it also. just be responsible and study and stop ragging on a teacher that cares! thank you. and thank the teacher! thats cares for you! besides its college not high school no more! more responsibitly and more work.
Ms. Naters is a nice teacher! u'll learn a lot from her class, but u have to work hard as well. Be prepared for each class and show up regularly, u'll get at least a B.
just another lazy teacher trying to get rid of as many students as possible. she's horrible until she get's her desired number to drop, and then halfway decent. if you're willing to listen to her nonsensical america-bashing and love busy work, take this class, otherwise, take a class that matters.
This class is not for the lazy, laid-back, or lost. If you want to learn the Spanish language as well as culture, traditions, and some literature of great Latino writers, and are willing to work creatively, then this is the class for you. This teacher has passion and is very knowledgable and well travelled. You will definitely get what you invest!!
don't miss class, pay attention, find a helpful partner and become friends with them.. it'll help a lot throughout the semester. as for homework, just do it; study for the quizzes and tests, and follow her examples for projects. she's not the easiest professor in the world, but you'll learn the material well.
Profesora Naters is the best spanish professor at Miramar. Yes, she is difficult, but if you read the material she assigns, do your homework every day and pay attention, you will pass. She is intense, but she is the only one that has actually gotten me to learn and speak the language. She won't give up on you if you don't give up on her. I recommen
Great teacher. She's a hardworker and expects her students to be the same, which if you're serious about college, you should be. If you're here to learn, then you will have no problem. It's important to follow directions. I've learned more than Spanish from this class. Work for your grade and be consistent.
Prof. Naters is a great professor. She has high expectations of her students and wants you to succeed. Yes it is true there is a lot of work and a lot of studying involved. Don't fall behind or you will fail. Stay on top of the assignments and the vocab and you should do fine.
Yes, she is hard and makes you learn and pushes you but thats what makes her great. And I will be taking her for the rest of my spanish classes. (Hint: she gets easier after some students have dropped, like cutting the fat)
I had so much fun in her class. I'd have to agree that it requires TONS of work, but that's just how you learn a language. She'd sometimes bring us coffee, bread, churros. She'd make you want to go to Mexico. But its important that you do every single thing that she asks you to do bec. you'll never know if it's for extracredit. She's awesome.
The absolute worst professor I have ever had. She is moody, plays favorites, grades arbitrarily and has no stomach for teaching. If your prof. spends more effort trying to fail you than teaching the material, she is a bad prof. By the end of the semester 3/4ths of the class had dropped. And she only likes girls in her class. I guarantee you all the positive ratings here are from females.
Everyone who has said she's the worst is either lazy or just flat out doesn't listen to the teacher. She gets along with whoever follows her rules. It is a lot of work, but you need to do it all to fully understand the language. Do the work, listen, and respect her and you'll be fine.
I had Professor Naters for both Spanish 2 and 3 and she is great! I learned so much! She expects a lot out of her students which is how it should be because these classes are worth 5 credits each! Make sure you respond when she emails you and also stay after to go over the tests. It will be worth your while. I agree that she is the best Span prof!
Horrible the class started full and ended with 11
Indeed, she only tolerates those who can follow her stringent rules. It's college, not grade school, I don't need someone to tell me how to organize my binder, thank you. She would be a much better teacher if she left her ego and her personal baggade at the door.
She is great... I loved her. I really feel that I learned preterit a lot better. She was very helpful. But study maps and vocab. Always stay after class if it is offered. Even if you don't get extra credit for it, it will still be benefecial. She does give a lot of homework, make shure you always give the reasons for por vs. para and ser vs. estar.
Probably the worst professor I have ever had. Totally unprofessional, biased and rude. This class was a nightmare.
DONT take this class if you are looking to get an easy grade. She's hardcore, a ****, and damm proud of it. If you really wana learn spanish she will be an amazing teacher who will be able to REALLY teach you about the language. She's very blunt, and will tell you to drop her class if you have too much going on, if you do, dont take her!

This is the worst class that I have ever had. She is rude, unprofessional, and degrading. You can feel the tension and hostility in her class. She tries to fail everyone on every detail. Not an easy class. The first day of class we had to write an essay about her. Her ego is ridiculous. If you want to learn Spanish, don't take this class.
I loved her, took her for 101, 102 & planning 201 soon. There is a lot homework but it takes 10 minutes to do. Final was a simple project for both classes. Quizzes like crazy* I took her in summer but its mostly with a group. Tests are easy because they always have the last section. Stay after class when given the option= extra credit. Study 4 an A
If you would like to fail, please go ahead and take this class with this professor. The class was full and now there are only 14-15 people left. She tricks you when writing the homework on the board so that you get a zero on it the next day. She does it to intentionally fail people. She will shred grade slowly with quizzes and tests. Sure you
Miramar College should let her go because she's is affecting the schools reputation. With all those dropouts Miramar loses money and less people will take Spanish there due to her.
She wears long black boots to class everyday and talks to her studentd all the time.
She wears black boots to class everyday and she talksto her students.
I have never encountered a prof so eager to fail people! If you dont like your job leave!! Shes terrible! Runnn! Shes cocky and shouldnt be!
This woman focuses on petty, insignificant details. Example: If you write the date MM/DD/YY, prepare to receive a "0" on that assignment. It must be DD/MM/YY, or it doesn't count. Be prepared to drop this class. This woman belongs in a reform school for troubled teens, not a college.
I am suprised she is still teach Spanish .the school should fire her a long time ago. i doubt that all the good comments about her is that she was writting for herself because in the class i attend i was just felt the hostile and hatred . This is the worst proffesor ever . Stupid ego, power abuse . Her attitude is totally unacceptable in college
the problem is her attitude. Since spanish is supposed to self-study. if you can stand her rudeness and have agood foundation in Spanish , you ok.Ah , say staying after class is optional but kind of punish the ones who left .So , alot of distracting stuff and trouble for a class . I agree with someone say she is a very bias and unprofesional
I am laughing at all of these crybabies. This is college people! If you want a good grade you have to earn it. She is a great instructor. I recommend her to anyone who really wants to learn spanish and who is not lazy!
Excellent teacher, clear explanations and plenty of opportunity to practice the new concepts learned. Deffinitely not for the lazy, or medicre student. It is very difficult to pack 2 years of high school spanish in 6 weeks of summer class, so the class is very challenging, lots of work and you will need to study hard at home.
Yowza! She is great and very nice to look at as well. It makes concentrating a challenge at times.
This professor is awful and i'm not a crybaby or lazy because she is hard. Starts off giving you three quizzes a day so all the lazy students leave (now she never gives quizzes). She is rude to people who want help so then you fail on her tests. Class started full and now only 1/3 remain. Don't take this class unless you are a spanish wizard.
not so good
She isn't a teacher that lets you pass with an A or a B easily, but if you work hard, you can earn your grade. She's very helpful and I think shes a great teacher. I would only recommend the summer course to people who are actually dedicated to learning spanish. Overall, her class is fun and filled with good experiences.
Yeah , these good comments does sound like her:) Or maybe some of her pets:)I am agood student, got 3.9 GPA in UCSD and sure not a crybaby.I have meet a lot of great proffesors and no one behave like her. Maybe because they are REAL PROFESSORS. Come on! she is from spanish speaking country and teach Spanish. Just the worst teacherand should be fire
I was very scared to take her due to all the comments on this page but I took her anyways because she was the only teacher teaching over the summer during the day. It was a 6 week course and was very hard but if you show up to class, do your homework the way she wants and study, you will pass the class. Most people in our class got B's and A's.
If you don't want school to be more stressed and overwhelmed, don't take her!
I took spn 101 & 102 both during summer sessions, this is not an easy class at all, but if you put your time and effort and actually want to learn Spanish, then you can snag an A easily. She's really straight forward of what she expects, its not an easy A but its a fun class!
In my opinion Virginia Naters should be replaced with a new teacher, I do not recomend for anyone to take Virginia Naters class.
This woman has no soul. Probably her worst trait is how culturally insensitive she is. One day she yelled at this Asian girl whose dad walked her to class, just because her dad would walk her to class. Homework was about 4+ hours per night. If you have some sick fettish for teachers verbally abusing everything about you, then Ms. Naters is perfect.
This teacher is not easy as all the other raters have commented. However, her teaching is SUPER! Her instruction is crystal clear, homework is relevant and helpful, her insight in language learning is deep. If you want to really learn Spanish, this is the teacher!
She's phenomenal! You learn about: aspects of Hispanic culture, literature, food, different countries, while she incorporates the grammar. To do well in this class: have homework turned in BEFORE class starts, be on time, DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO DO LIBRETA ASSIGNMENTS, have your own stapler, study for the tests, and be respectful!
If you want to have your semester full of stress and torture, i very much recommend this teacher. The class started with 30 students and was left with 6. Most students did not show up towards the end and many ended up with Cs. she makes your life hell. She does not help you, she only criticizes you and uses punishment the whole entire time.
Professor Naters is an amazing woman. She really helped me to be comfortable in speaking Spanish in public. And the cultural aspect of this class is so rewarding! I love professor Naters! And for all those people who rated her badly...it is totally not her fault. If you know how to pay attention and love the material, this is the class for you!
Profe Naters is awesome. I really really enjoyed taking her class. There were a lot of people who dropped the course because they could not handle her outgoing character or the "work load". Come on now, this is college. She is passionate and very caring. Definitely recommend her. She's definitely my favorite professor at Miramar!
Profe Naters is a fantastic teacher. She tells you exactly what she expects of you. If you're looking for a breeze course, though, this is not for you. You have to work hard and earn a good grade. Most work is done in groups. It's a lot of work, but very rewarding.
If you truly want to learn Spanish, she is by far the best professor I have had. She is a very unique individual and incredibly intelligent. Like any inteligent and caring professor who has any enthusiam for teaching will not simply hand you a grade, but make you earn it. Act like adults.
Very picky and so clear about how she wants things done that sometimes its confusing. As long as you try hard and turn everything in seriousness then she will pass you. She can be hard on you but thats her personailty. She is super sweet and lets yo uhave parties and group tests. Got C's and B's on the tests with one A. And got an A in the class.
DO NOT TAKE HER SPANISH CLASS. Avoid her. Her controlling ways get in the way of teaching her students. Before taking her class, I actually enjoyed Spanish but she made it a nightmare. I am far from lazy. I am a highly motivated student who transferred to SDSU (Nursing). This is my first time rating a professor but I wanted to warn students.RUN
She seemed really nice at first but once the second week came around her horns started showing. She's incredibly mean and unsympathetic. I had gotten into a car accident and had to be hospitalized, but that day we had a test and I missed it. She wouldn't accept my doctor's note and gave me a zero for not showing up. Don't take her.
I took this teacher for spanish 101 and she is very rude. I would not recommend her.
I did well on tests, and did the assignments most of the time, but still ended with a B & I worked hard in this class!! Be sure to do all your homework, & read her emails with the assignments thoroughly. Every assignment matters! Read the books assigned as well because she doesn't tell you to & it's on the final! But I don't recommend her at all!!!
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! This will not be a spanish class but a history and geography class. In the beginning of the class there were 23 students and by the end of the semester there were only 6 students. And I regret not dropping this class. She does not explain anything clearly and is very picky. DON'T TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HER!
She is the worst professor at Miramar. I'm currently in her class and she makes me hate what used to be my favorite subject. Do no take a class with her, her instructions are not clear, she is rude, and is very picky. If you want to be treated like you're in middle school again then this class is for you.
Ridiculous!!! four page paper due in a week with a poster board.. on top of that a lot load of homework worst teacher ever! worst of all if i mess up any thing on that paper i get a ZERO ... all my work would have been for nothing ..
Professor Naters is an alright teacher. I say this not due to the work load, of which there is quite a bit, but because of her attitude toward questions. Although she is very clear about what she expects she does not really answer questions the students pose to her and makes you feel quite dumb for asking. She is a nice lady, though.
If you are looking for an easy A for your foreign language requirement don't take her. But if you are serious about learning Spanish she is the best. There is a ton of homework but it helps you learn fast. A large part of the class is culture but it was interesting. if you are a serious student and just talk to her she will be more flexible.
Naters is a great teacher! the workload is alot but its expected from a 5 credit class! she makes things clear to avoid crazy questions! as long as you pay attention and read well the class should be a breeze! her method of teaching is a little diff but a very good method none the less! great class great teacher! you just have to do the work!
Worst teacher EVER! Refuses to answer any questions. Condescending. Takes out her miserable life on students. This was taught more like a junior high class. Poster boards mandatory...(in color). A lot about Mexican culture, but nothing about speaking Spanish. The only reason she teaches is to have power over other people. Just plain cruel.
Easily the worst professor I have ever had. Very unprofessional, and intimidating to some. She will ruin your day with stressful cultural assignments that will be of no value, and does not hesitate to give out zeroes. I would recommend avoiding her class.
The worst teacher I ever had. Not approachable. Yells daily. Puts you down and makes you feel stupid when you don't know something. Do yourself a favor and don't take her.
Her universal response to all questions is "ask somebody else." She's used the phrase "I have tenure, I can do what I want" more than once. Belittles students, grades zeroes rampantly and refuses to explain why, and mumbles rapidly in a thick Panamanian accent but refuses to repeat herself to students that are nowhere near that level of fluency.
Rude, mean, over assigns junk homework. Notice how many other reviewers have said the same thing. It's true. Do not take this teacher's class.
Yo I've been in her class for one week and all I have to say is ZON'T ZOOO IT! She doesn't know how to give out clear directions and she's rude for no reason! When you ask her a question she doesn't even wanna answer it like uhm ok???? Just don't take this class no matter how bad you need it she's not worth it
She is fair and square. She is very clear in what she expect out of students. Her class is for those who is determined to do homework. You cannot wing it. At the end, you realize how much you learned. Best teacher I have had in language courses.
very rude. if you have a job do not take it, a lot of the homework is assigned with a one day notice... spent few nights not sleeping already. A college level class in my opinion should have available homework a week in advanced assuming that some students do work full time while doing this. She Thinks questions are stupid.. dont ask..
set up like a high school class. big amount of work but reasonable because its a 5 credit class. But the due dates on Hw a lot of times are on the next day. Good luck if you have other classes. better have time to do that HW the next day
Just don't take Naters, do yourself a favor. She is super moody you never know what you're going to get. The class is tough, she assigns an insane amount of homework I had to drop a class to keep up. I turned in all of my homework, and did decent on the tests and I still got a C. Worst is she is really unorganized.. this class was a nightmare
There's homework daily. Almost everything is group work. Tests count for majority of your grade. No phone zone (don't take it lightly). She does not like and will not take excuses. If you get butthurt easily, do not take this class. You'll learn a lot and she's a cool professor, but it's up to your attitude. Don't be rude and/or negative.
Trust me when I say DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. Throughout the whole semester we don't know our grade. There's an insane amount of homework, essays, posters, with barely anytime to do (she tells you about it 2 days before the due date). A week notice we have to do a presentation, poster, read 2 books with notes on every chapter, then our final.
Already have degrees, so used to working hard. Too much geography & anthropology, not enough Spanish. Prof. is excessively strict w irrelevant clerical rules. Abrasive. 3 poster board pres. like grade school. Disorganized & dumped a lot of work at the end w little prep time. Good when Spanish actually taught but not worth stress. Avoid.
At first I found her rude and condescending but I grew to love and enjoy her. There is a lot of HW, projects & easy papers but I will be taking her again for 102. You learn a lot, both spanish culture and language. If you're looking for an easy A, DO NOT TAKE HER. Listen to instructions and youll be okay. Rely on classmates for answers to questions
I took a summer session with Prof. Naters at Miramar College. She is professional and highly competent. Yes, there is homework. If you are taking Spanish language classes because you "have to", don't take this class. If you want to actually learn Spanish and are ready to actually put in the work it takes to learn a new language - take her class.
I DON'T KNOW WHY SHE HAS TO BE SO HARD!!!!!!! Spanish should be a fun subject, but she makes me hate learning about Spanish. I have 5 other classes and I had to drop her right away because she stressed me out so much FOR NO REASON. IT'S SPANISH ITS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN. She will fail you. She lasted with 5 students at the end of the semester. SUCKS
For those who say "Spanish is supposed to be easy" Hiw fun do you think it is to take a language class with lazy idiots who refuse to study? Grow up!
let me tell you right now, DON'T DO IT. If you even think about coming in 25 seconds late, you are done for. If you even accidentally print something wrong, don't bother turning it in. If you even have a question, Ima just let you know DON'T ASK IT.
I took this class during summer and I have never worked so hard in a class in my whole life. Her teaching style is not for everyone, and if you are shy, I don't advise taking this class because EVERYTHING is done in groups. Yes this class is difficult, but I learned SO much and made amazing friends in the process.
Whenever I feel curious about something and want to ask, she shames me in front of the whole class. She is incredibly rude and condescending despite the fact that I never disrespected her. Class is more about native americans than actual spanish itself. Take her if you want to lose points arbitrarily for things that aren't relevant to spanish.
Did not learn much Spanish, learned more about culture. There is always homework and notes must be identical to hers. The notes aren't for you but for her. Many left the class at one point it went from 30 to 4 students. I do not recommend to take this class if you have already difficult classes or full time students. It is not a cruise by class.
This class was not boring like my previous spanish class and that is what made me stick around to see this class through. She does emphasize on culture which was interesting. Downside, there was TONS of homework, even when preparing for the final. The tests were easy, just study and DO the homework. Don't take if you are full time. READ THE BOOKS!
She's rude, teaches slang and more about culture than the language itself. Don't take if you're looking to learn Spanish you'd speak in mexico (according to my fluent Mexican husband). super strict, hates electronic devices, and shames you in front of the class for no reason. i didn't finish the class.
The teacher is very unorganized and tends to be emotional and rude. The homeworks are all in the wrong format and the notes are aimed towards her not you
The best words to describe her class is nonsensical. She makes you take notes the exact way she wrote them down, and then turn them in for points, which defeats the whole purpose of notes. Extremely rude, doesn't teach well at all. I've been in hard classes before where I work hard to get good grades, so I can tell you that this prof is terrible.
Your grade depends too much on your group. Grading criteria is unclear. She much prefers students who don't tax her teaching chops (ones who grew up speaking Spanish or had AP Spanish in H.S.), provides too little instruction and spends waay too much time talking about herself. Also, she was moody and rude. I enjoyed Spanish til I had her.
Ive taken 13 classes with straight As, but was struggling to understand what she wants first few weeks of class. Super rude, disrespectful and arrogant. AVOID HER CLASS as long as possible.
I took the 8-week summer course and was blown away by the amount of homework. She was understanding but fair when I had life events come up and I missed two exams and a lot of homework. Her class felt like a Mexican culture class with Spanish thrown in. Do not take her class if you have thin skin or think you can complain your way out of working.
Naters is awful. There is no time to take notes, and she has music playing during class. Avoid her at all costs! Do not ask her about the homework, she will delete it and not answer. If you say uh or um in between your Spanish words or syllables, she will ring a bell in your ear! Important words in the homework are in SPANISH! LOTS of participation
She's not the worst professor I've had, but the class is more difficult than it deserves to be. It's largely focused on group exercises and that alone made the class bearable because of all the awesome people I've met! But for anyone taking more than 4 classes or have jobs or kids, I do not recommend. I did learn quite a bit though.
I have never felt more defeated by a class. I'm a straight A student and sacrificed all of my other grades (which should have been A's, but are C's) to get an A in this class. However, the final project, which has unreasonable expectations, is worth so much that it can take your grade from an A to an F. Only take this class if it's your only option
Way harder than it needed to be. She within the first few days she scared away half the class. Very lecture heavy and requires you to write your note exactly like she does its ridiculous.
Loving and caring teacher. Yes, she is strict but is truly teaching a very culturally heavy and unique class that you will get as much out of as you put in. Taking Spanish only for the Gen Ed requirements? find another teacher for an "easy A". Looking to actually advance your grammar, cultural understanding and etiquette, the work will pay off.
She's been one of the most difficult professors I have ever had; she's unreasonable, rude, arrogant and will shame students for asking questions! Prepare to put in A LOT of work in. Be in class at least 5 mins. early. Take notes exactly the same way she writes them or she won't give you credit for it. ONLY TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO!
Her and I got along fairly well, however, this class is insane. Took it during the summer, MISSED TWO CLASSES, completed 80-90% of homework, got an 81,84,88 and 90 on all her exams. Participated in class, and I still got a C+. She clearly has favorites in her class, so one recommendation I could give out... be on her good side, and you'll get a b
One of the toughest professors at Miramar, which is what makes her a great teacher. While other professors might allow their students to do mediocre work, prof. Naters high, rigid expectations create the environment necessary for efficient learning to happen. As long as you approach the class with an open, humble mindset, you will pass.
I took Spanish 101 and 102 with Profe Naters. Here's the thing: you're here to learn Spanish. This isn't your basic entry level class that you're just taking for a few extra credits, it's real work. That being said, I have never learned so much Spanish in such a short amount of time. I can read it, speak it and understand it without hesitation.
Phheeewww, I'm so relived I dropped this class after the first day I met her, I'm not risking a grade with this professor. There is No extra Credit, HW is Mandatory or she takes participation points, She's very aggressive when you ask her to repeat something you didn't hear, She doesn't allow late work at all, She's inconsiderate and lacks empathy
Wow, I shouldve read rate my professor before I signed in her class. She has a lot of petty rules, one is she will ignore you unless you said "Premios" and she doesn't like to be asked to repeat herself. How I am supposed to take notes if I can't ask questions on something you just said, I mightve missed?! Words cannot describe how strict she is
Hmm, how can I describe her... strict, petty rules, assigns an undoable amount of work, cant even fill up a class she even said 12 people are her typical classes probably because everyone else was smart enough to leave early, shes very Condescending, aggressive, hates questions, rude, bossy. Full-time straight A students avoid her at all cost
I dropped this class, on day 1 of our lecture. I really should've read these reviews beforehand because the strictness is on point with these reviews. She doesn't like being asked to repeat herself, and it is very hard to take notes since she writes them in her own style. Also lots of handouts that need to be printed. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
Possibly the worst teacher I have ever had at SDCCD: disorganized, rude, employs humiliation tactics to discourage students from asking questions. Obviously enjoys the students who already knows Spanish but isn't inclined to help others very much. Also, came for Spanish not to hear about her personal problems. All together unprofessional.
The hardest professor I had. Loaaaats of homework, get ready to spend about 4-5 hrs on looking up stuff as she doesn't teach the material that well. Skipped a class? Better withdraw cause you are not getting an A, missed HW? Withdraw, cause you are not gonna get a good grade. Have a question? Don not ask, she doesn't like it. Ruuun! Avoid! Avoid!
Believe the negative comments. Her syllabus specifically says multiple times to not email her with any excuses and she means it. She poorly explains the material and then punishes you for using google. If you ask a question in class she will just say its wrong with no explanation. I'd rather be hit by a car than take this class again.
First off taking zoom classes blows donkeys anyways. Even if courses were hard on-campus tutors helped determined students. I should have totally read up on this teacher because she is the worst. There's no empathy, no help, no write answer. She very condescending and can careless if you show effort and seek guidance. Avoid at all cost.
She is by far the worst teacher I have ever encountered during my time here, with 46 units completed. I speak Spanish fluently, and I struggled. She assigns too much work, and it is not realistic. A poster board and a 20-page reading assignment were due for the following class. She enjoys failing students. It's literal insanity. Take April Koch!
I was thinking of Professor Naters and looked her up on Google. I took her class for Spanish 1 & 2 in 1998 & 1999 when she was at Grossmont. She was amazing. She scares it out of you, weeding out the slackers, and then is the best teacher by week 3. I still say Mala Suerte 20 plus years later. She does not take lip. No native speaker.
All I have to say is wait for her email when class is about start for the semester cause lord let me tell you the amount rules she has is far too much. You need help with zoom dont ask her she cant help you. You need help with an app she wants you to use dont ask her she cant help. She truly lacks compassion which is sad during this times
I took this class during covid. when it was online only. she required all of us to print out her assignments and TAKE PICTURES of them and then email those pics to her. What if students had no printer? too bad, not her problem. She lacks empathy for other students and is a tough grader. Even corrected my last name. Disrespectful.
I participated more than the average person every day, showed up to class on time, didn't miss a single day of class, turned in EVERY SINGLE homework assignment on time, and was told my grade in the class so far was a 71%. How you might ask? Because apparently the entire homework assignment is scored zero if you miss one question. Rude and unfair.
This instructor is not for the faint of heart. She is very militant in her ways and takes no excuses. I have learned immensely in this class because she forces you to speak and enunciate the words properly. However she has no empathy or patience for any of the students which causes them to be afraid to ask questions for fear of he becoming upset.
would not recommend this professor. instead of using canvas like every other professor, she uses Facebook. the emails she sends for the hw are confusing. labels her assignments with letters and numbers. ex: bring assignments 1(a)(c) and 1(a)(j) to class. she is a nice professor but the class is very poorly structured.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She lacks sympathy. She makes you make Facebook account, instead of using canvas. If you miss one answer on the homework it's wrong. You want to make up work even if you have a serious situation, you can make it up but only for 50 percent. She likes failing students.
I am a fluent Spanish speaker. I decided to take this class so that I don't have to challenge my GPA. Boy, I made a big mistake signing up for her class. Not only did I struggle catching up with her load of HW and confusing zoom emails. But I also ended up lowering my GPA. She expects HW due the very next day BC of the time change she has in MX.
Definitely not a basic spanish class... made us do a 2 page research paper all in spanish, remember this is a basic spanish class students are barely learning to greet each other. The paper work is a full load, she does not care about the ink you WASTE since she is not the one doing so.
Profe Gugui, takes her job extremely seriously. This teacher is a very hard grader, get ready to be doing her homework all day every day. She does surprise essays and tests. Every word, tilde, and phrase must be perfect. She also strongly monitors all participation and does not offer extra credit.
In week 3 of this class,my head is hurting and my printer. The amount of HW is ridiculous. This class should not be taken with any other intense classes. I'm in Physiology and I feel like this class is actually harder. She also sends you on a wild goose chase through her emails and FB group. In my two years here this is the worst class I have taken.
If you care about the environment, don't take this class. This teacher makes you print out EVERYTHING, and she's so picky about everything. She doesn't really have any sympathy toward your financial situation and expects you to have a printer and money for ink. There's also SO much homework. Also, she makes you use Facebook instead of canvas.
I actually really liked her. There were quite a few students that were former military (mostly USMC), and we all feared and respected her. I prefer instructors that push and demand the best from you; who doesn't accept excuses. I tried to get away with doing less than my best a few times, and she was not for it. I appreciated that tremendously.
Profe Naters is a demanding but effective teacher. Be prepared for a heavy workload, with lots of homework and surprise assessments. However, if you engage with the class and use study aids like unstuck study, you can succeed. It's a challenging but rewarding course.
