She is very nice and interesting, tests are extremely hard though. Lots of quizzes and tests. Quiz every week in lab, with mid-term and final over everything. 4 pop-quizzes in class (so you must ALWAYS attend!). Tests in class every 3-4 wks.
DO NOT Take this class. She failed over half the class and does not offer any extra credit or help once you fail her ridiculously hard tests. Tests are geared towards med students, not a 101 class.
Do not take this skeeze....she makes hard 3 tests and 4 quizzes, 12 lab tests, and 2 lab exams.........you need to study very hard NO EXTRA CREDIT.........doesnt feel sorry for anyone has no personality......NOT A GOOD RECOMMANDATION
She is pretty good. She knows her stuff. I am a biology major so I appreciate some of the toughness. Study the things she lists on the test review sheets and you should do fine! Cramming the night before won't get you the grade you want on her tests..trust me!
Turner is great!! gives a ton of extra credit...exams are resonable..if you read like you are supposed too. Shes the sweetest lady ever and class is straight to the point and is willing to help you if needed!
nice prof with helpful
she's an aight teacher, approachable
She kept in interesting and fun and stay focused
This class was relatively easy but the test questions were sometimes pulled out of nowhere. Textbook was too big. I had an A all semester until the second lab exam and my grade dropped to like an 89.8 or something and she wouldnt give me the A. Dont bother with this one.
Professor Turner is soo nice. if you show up for lectures (Which is all you do usually) You have one quiz every week on notes from the previous class-really easy. There are like 5 major tests and basically no homework and thats about it. Gives extra credit and if you show up to class all the time and you have a borderline grade she will bump you up
She is a really nice professor, very knowledgeable, and pretty fair. Her lectures can be boring, but if you go to class do your assignments you should do well. There are quizzes every other week--they are group quizzes so it's so easy. Exams are tough, but gives study guides. Most questions were based from lecture notes.
I like this teacher, very nice, east to understand. Lectures are a bit dry and longgg but it's not extremely bad. I recommended this class
Great teacher. Absolutly loved her class. I missed one class and it messed me up. You absolutely have to attent her class in order to get a good grade. I missed a class and I got a B. She covers a lot of material. You have to take notes in her class, thats where she gets most of her quizes and tests. Deffinatly do the extra credit and homework. Lab
her class was hard just like everyother anatomy class..her lectures are useless ..unclear about what is on tests lab exams hard
UNCLEAR ABOUT WHAT IS ON LAB EXAM AND HER NOTES GO FAST AND SHE WOULD MAKE US WRITE THEM ALL OUT AT FIRST...THIS CLASS IS HARD OVERALL
Grades are soley based on lab & lecture exams. No credit for attendence or participation in dissections. Online quizzes for 1% of your grade and little EC. Anatomy is a hard class that requires a lot of dedicated study time. Prof Turner is a nice person if you take the time to know her. Lab is mostly indepedent study & lectures are from the book.
Very nice lady but very monotone. There was no passion or desire in her teaching. It felt like she just did it cause she had to, it was her job. Not that she wanted to. Lab was like independant study which makes it hard to stay on track. However, the online quizes help. You can take them as many times as you want. She's not impossible but not easy.
Virginia seems to enjoy working with students but does not seem enthused about teaching the class. She's very approachable & "sane". Her exams are reasonable, but Anatomy is a HARD course no matter the teacher. I would take her class again if I had to. I really like her & recommend her. Your only other choice is Holdaway! LOL!
Doctor Turner is one professor you would really remember. She would provide you information that you needed to know. If you want to learn ANATOMY, i highly recommend her. But you really need to study hard to get an A.
u think animals are boring but theyre actually interesting. the class was okay but the lab exams were difficult u had to study your ass off to get a good grade but the lecture exams were not as hard. she gave lots of extra credit too. take her if she teaches zoology
I thought her teaching style was pretty useless. Just sits and reads PowerPoint slides and shows videos, which always run into lab time and forces you to rush through labs. She's nice, just doesn't help make a boring class interesting. Lab exams are really tough, but lecture exams are not bad. Gives lots of extra credit, which is a plus.
Professor Turner is great! I highly recommend her. Anatomy is difficult & she tries really hard to make it enjoyable. She's very active in her classroom as well as her lab time, too.
Not a very approachable woman. What exacly is going to be on her exams is unclear. She has no passion about teaching the class. All she does is read off a powerpoint and have you copy it, (like we cant read on our own). Very difficult to stay focused and interested. If you're sane, don't pick her for anatomy.
Hi...I agree she is not a good teacher this class should have been a teach your self..the above comments are right u go to lecutre and copy exactly what she has and u leave..she is not a people person at all. In lab she is somewhat helpful but not alot..i would not recommend this teacher to anyone.
not very helpful teacher
Class is hard, and its easy to fall behind. She puts up ppt notes online and goes over them in class. The notes are half blank so you have to come to class and fill in.If you can get the notes from a friend you can skip class she doesnt hint/add to whats on the test.Lab exams are brutal, blank page spelling counts. Can be heartless and cold at times.
I liked her, she is nice woman and teacher. She has to improve her lectures, to make it more intresting. Do not blame teacher if you are not studying, anatomy is very hard subject, so be prepared to study hard.
I really liked her and if you are having problems in class she will help if you go to her!! You have to try! Oh and the people that say her lectures stink..you can't rely on a lecture!! You have to study that book! I made a B. I would have made an A if I wouldn't have been gone 2 weeks due to a death in my family. This is not a blow off class!
I have to agree with the last few comments..This should have been a self study class. She is not helful at all.You do have to come to class. I dropped because I didnt feel like I was learning anything. I do not suggest taking her for bio if you really want to understand it..
I think that she is a very good teacher. Anatomy is not an easy subject and if you show up to her lectures and labs she gives you the help and curtisy that you give her by showing up. I really liked her and after hearing some of the comments from fellow students in the class she is a lot better then the other anatomy porfessors they had.
At the beginning of the semester she was distant and monotonous. towards the end she was fun and helpful. her lectures are a little boring class is Mandatory to pass. STUDY STUDY STUDY takes a lot of memorization.
Not approachable. You can ask questions but she expects you to come up with the answer, did not help me understand just made me feel dumb. All exams are hard. Doesn't seem to enjoy what she does. Lectures are useless. You are on your own. B-
I took BIO 160 with Ms. Turner Fall 09, and I really enjoyed her class. Lectures were a bit dry, but Anatomy is mostly a self-teach subject, it's all memorization....so if you're not capable to teaching yourself, this class isn't for you. I never had any problems when I was struggling with something in Labs, she was always very helpful to me.
Professor Turner knows a lot about the subject, but she seems to find it easy. I find memorizing hard. She is willing to help if you ask her. She goes through lectures quickly (print the power point notes prior to each class.) I found her Exams difficult, but quizzes were done on line. She offers an optional final to boost your grade.
After reading all these horrible reviews on Ms. Turner I was terrified of taking her class turns out she's not so bad. She's VERY nice and she is more than willing to help you if you ask for it. Anatomy is NOT an easy subject, but students find it easier to blame the professor instead of there-selves.
Anatomy is very hard, but Prof. Turner tries very hard so that everyone can pass.
STAY AWAY .. She is not a good teacher, she is in the wrong profession. Not saying that BIO is easy, however Ms. Turner is not the right person to teach it !! Nothing personal, she is a nice person just not good as a teacher
she have a conplex with certain students.. i sat in this teacher class in watch her...she no help as far as teaching. i really dont want to say it...if you are african american you might as well give it up you have nothing coming in her class
Prof. Turner is hilarious. She seems uptight at first, but keep it real and respect her; she will do the same for you. She is always available to answer questions and she gives you little techniques to remember things. Yes, the class is brutal, but remember that it's supposed to filter out students for nursing, DMS, and other health professions.
The class is hard, it's a department and Harper thing. The lectures can be boring, but for the exams, they are helpful. I missed a few in between, but still got 90's on them. You just need to read, reread, and study the book. Ms. Turner will help when asked, and I don't think she makes the class unnecessarily difficult. Just gotta memorize
Turner is a great professor. Anatomy is a tough course and she doesn't hold your hand through it. EVERYONE receives the grade they earn. Make sure you read the chapters before class and after to be successful. Head ups 1/2 the study guide isn't even on the exam just READ READ READ the book!!! She's very approachable and helpful if you ASK!

Glad to see shes not teaching Anatomy (at least for now). Save your money--theres NO passion in her teaching--she wanted students to know how much she knew about anatomy. Did sense she held prejudices, she needs a class in sensitivity training. Harper College is making $$$ off her.
Good teacher! Challenging class, but well-worth it. Attendance is highly recommended, especially on lab days.
If you can take the class with someone else, DO IT. Turner's lectures are long and poorly presented. Anything she covers in lecture, you could learn straight from the book. Her lab exams are difficult, but they're nothing compared to her lecture exams. She's a tough teacher, and not well put-together. (If you work hard, you can get an okay grade.)
Her classes are by no means easy. Her teaching is a bit closer to that of a 4 year college, and she has a tendency to go a little fast. She is a good teacher, but be sure to keep up, or you will be completely lost.
She is very nice and will answer any questions you have for her, although her tests are very hard and her wording is confusing. Much easier than some of the other professors that teach anatomy at Harper though.
She is a great teacher, and i definitely recommend her! She answers any questions you have, very helpful. She does go a little fast, but it is something you will catch on. Before each lecture, make sure you read the chapter and take notes! Her exams are difficult, but pay attention and study and you will get a good grade. I got A's on my exams.
Ms Turner was an Awesome teacher. You could tell zoology was an interest to her and was enthusiastic about teaching the subject. There is a lot of studying involved, more than I've done for any other class in my life, but if you do it you will succeed in the class.
Online class was super easy, projects were fun and she was very helpful. I would recommend this to anyone who does not want a lecture you do everything at home on your own time and take tests in the testing center. You get to use a notecard and only have 5-7 in class meeting like every other week only take like 20 min. Fair grader and super nice!
Dr. Turner was awesome! She teaches how professors at a 4 year university teach which I think is very important to introduce to smaller community colleges. If you work hard and show her that you are there to learn she will help you. Anatomy is tough, don't expect ANY teacher to just hand you an "A".
Amazing teacher. You can really tell she loves job and cares about her students' success. Zoology was a very hard class, but it's to be expected. Make sure you always, ALWAYS study because there's a lot of material to memorise! Fantastic teacher! I recommend her!
She's a bad teacher. nice enough but has an attitude when you ask what to study, she says you need to know it all, everything is fair game. I took my first lab test with a migraine because she said there is no make up tests for labs no excuses. I failed and wrote her an email about doing extra work n no response. Don't take anatomy w her!
She's nice teacher and she would answer your questions very well. But some part you need to teach yourself a lot. She kinda expect students know everything. In lab, ask her lots of questions. Many times she gave me a big clue about exam... like when I asked her she said"don't worry about it it's not going to be on exam" and she didn't announce it!
Great Teacher. Very helpful and nice, always answers all questions and helps during labs when people are not sure what to do. Gives tons of extra credit questions on the test, which will boost your grade very high. Always gives instructions for labs and posts notes on blackboard. Its a biology class, its hard, but pay attention and study, easy A.
EXTREMELY difficult class. Lots of memorization, you get to leave class whenever you are done with your lab. Tests are super hard. If you do not spend hours studying for the exams, you probably won't pass. No much learning, just lots of memorization. Need book everyday. Very nice teacher, loves what she does, always willing to help. No homework.
She was alright. This entire class is about memorization. There are quizzes - but just remember what she said during the lectures and review your notes. The lab tests are pretty challenging. Requires a lot of textbook use.
I took this course in the summer (yikes!) but I passed w/an A. Anatomy is a hard subject. You WILL have to spend every waking moment memorizing for this class for whomever teaches it. Prof Turner is EXCELLENT—Talk to her—Ask questions—Let her know you're interested too. Use her study links. Use the library study room. She's 1 of the best 4 BIO160
She is an amazing instructor. Just pay attention to the lectures and labs. She always ablbe to help students.
She is very nice and sweet. If you attend her class and pay attention you will easily pass the class with an A. Her tests are straightforward, everything comes from the lecture and the book. I LOVED this class.
I thought Dr. Turner did a great job of explaining material and if you have questions be sure to ask as in some cases she will give you more insight as to what to expect on tests that she doesn't announce publicly. Lab tests can be challenging however with the extra credit she adds its tough to NOT get an A.
You need your book everyday, dissections are about everyday. Make sure you pay attention in lecture, the next class has a quiz on the lecture. I didn't get a good grade but I LOVED this class!
Honestly, the class was much tougher than I expected it to be. But I absolutely loved it!!! I learned so much I never knew before, and it's extremely interesting. The tests are lab/lecture. YOU MUST STUDY. If you really put effort towards this class, you will be fine!! Lots of dissections and quizzes on them. Don't slack, she's also very helpful!!
She is a great instructor! Lectures are straight to the point, need your book to study more on the topics from lecture. Turner was always willing to answers questions in lab, SO ASK THEM!!! This is NOT an easy class, but she is VERY willing to help you pass it, you just have to work at it!
She was a great teacher! I did not miss one class though if I did I felt like I would miss something and not know it. Very hard test MAKE SURE YOU STUDY. I studied for at least 12 hours one time. Loved the class though and very interesting and if you want a challenge for yourself this is the class to do it!
I took her over the summer so everything was rushed and felt like too much to take in. Her slides are simple to go through. Recommend you take good notes. Her exams are difficult for the most part. Questions that are not from lecture will be there. Lab exams, you will have to write correctly or the entire thing is wrong. Lectures can be dull&boring
WORST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD. She had an exam that with a class of 100 kids, everyone failed and she did not curve or drop that test. enough said. I had to drop it with a couple weeks left.
Her class is difficult, but lets be honest that this is a tough class. If you study and try your best you will pass! Tests are tough but straight to the point. Receiving an A from her class.
This class is not easy. You have to study long hours. She does not teach anything. You have to read the book carefully. I would not recommend her for 160.
In her summer class considering dropping. She is not willing to help with simple Q's about concepts and gets frustrated when you don't know the answer. Expects you to memorize all the bones in the body literally overnight. Tests are daily. If you're 5 min. late you will not be able to take the test. Impatient, inconsiderate, no empathy, very cold.
Breezes through lectures, talks very fast, you have to know how to ask the questions or else she just gives you a one word answer. Test are tough and lab exams are tougher, its only a blank sheet with word bank, you have to know the exact name of the human part and you have to spell it correctly or else you get it wrong. DO NOT TAKE DURING SUMMER!
Anatomy is a tough class especially to take over the summer. Don't walk into class and expect an easy "a". She is an amazing professor!! She's tough but she knows the material she is teaching. You work hard and you'll get the grade you deserve. She makes you work for your grade. I enjoyed her class and would take her again.
I'm currently taking this professor. So far my grades are in the "A" track, but I tell you, the reason why I keep getting mistakes on her exams is because she didn't include some of those items/keywords in her lectures. It's somewhat unfair for me honestly but I have no choice, I need to deal with it. Overall she's not a bad professor. JUST STUDY!
LOVE HER. lectures go by quickly(especially 8 am), same w/ lab. Do the hmwk assigned(need the book). Exam format is AWESOME,a scratch off and U get partial points for 2nd and 3rd choice answers!! 4 exams, non are cumulative. Use the lab time to study the parts. If u have taken BIO160, this class will be easy for you bc u understand lab exam format.
Dr. Turner was really good. She posts the notes online before class so printing them and taking side notes worked really well for me. Lab practicals are hard. But she drops the lowest. Just study and you'll be fine! Not a lot of homework, some quizzes, lecture exams are easy. NEED the book. I would take her! I loved her!
So I ended up with an A which means the effort that I have put in this class is worth it. TBH, I devoted 3 hrs each day in studying for this class. Zoology is not an easy class, lots of memorization and visual identification but if you focus and study well for the exams and pop quizzes. You are in good hands. Being prepared Success. (^_^)
Dr Turner is an amazing professor. She gives you the notes online to which you do have to add what she writes on the screen. Just write down what she writes and take lots of pictures during open(practice) labs and study them. Hard not to get an A if you do study it thoroughly. That being said BIO 140 is not the course to take lightly. :)
I had to retake anatomy this summer and I took it with Professor Turner. Honestly, this class is hard and I wouldn't have even taken this class in the summer if i didn't take it before. I feel like this time around i really understood the material that was given. She is a great teacher, and will answer and question that you have so ask them.
Professor Turner is amazing Biology teacher. She is enthusiastic and very clear about any part of Human anatomy. I loved to attend her lecture. It was my great opportunity of starting my career.
Good teacher! She takes time to make sure you understand a topic if you have questions. Great help with all the dissections and labs. Her tests are formatted in a way where you have better chances to score higher. Her lab tests can be difficult so make sure to actually participate in the labs.
She is a okay professor. She is never clear on what she wants for homework and just expects you to know. You have like 14 tests in the semester which have nothing to do with what she teaches you. All she does is go through power points. Take my advice and take this class online.
Dr. Turner was a phenomenal teacher, she will go above and beyond to make sure you understand the material. The tests are fairly easy as long as you study, the power points she gives you literally have ALL of the questions on them. Extremely knowledgeable and really cares about her students. Highly recommend if interested in anatomy/physiology.
I love Professor Turner! She explains everything clearly, her lectures are PowerPoints that she goes through and adds notes onto, and not a lot of homework is given. Her tests are scratch off so they give you a chance at another guess. She's one of the kindest instructors I've had and makes it a point to get to know her students. Highly recommend!
I had Dr. Turner for zoology as well as anatomy & physiology and aced both. She is very clear in what you need to know and will answer any questions. If you go to class and show her you care, she will undoubtedly notice and treat you as such.
She has scratch off tests that allow you to try a few times for fewer points. She wants you to do well and gives the tools necessary to succeed. She talks kinda fast so take organized notes. Take pictures of lab practices. She cares a lot, like for personal issues. Ask good questions otherwise you will get yes or no answers. she's kinda cool too..
She's an excellent science teacher. If I didn't have her I don't know if I would have passed. You get what you put into the class. If you show up and do the work and study then you'll be fine. Long lectures but otherwise a great teacher.
Virginia is so cool and so kind!! The lab exams are hard, so read the book/PPTs, take pics of EVERYTHING on the lab counters to study/memorize bc you have to write down the name of the species & animal class it belongs to. She lectures before lab which are worksheets from the book & sometimes she doesn't collect the pgs so some classes are a waste.
Fun class! Try to just borrow a book from someone & scan the chapter worksheets, she only collects the WS for lab pts. She does take attendance but I skipped a few times and she rounded my 89% to an A. There are 4 exams (no final). The exams are scratch-off like a lottery it's cool but you cant make mistakes so write on the test before you scratch!
Human anatomy is HARD, let's be clear. But, Dr. Turner will not test on anything she doesn't lecture on, which is a lifesaver. Plus, her test style is such that you earn a lot of points even if you don't know the correct answer on the first try. She's a great teacher, I really learned a lot. IF SHE HAS SPOTS OPEN IN THIS CLASS, TAKE THEM!
Dr. Turner is a great choice for anatomy. She has scratch off tests which gives you a few chances to guess on a test question and you get your grade immediately. Study, comprehend and memorize the lecture notes and you'll do well in the class. It takes a lot of work, studying almost daily, but she makes it doable.
If youre taking anatomy then this is the teacher to take. Shes helpful, nice and explains things well. Her tests are amazing bc if u miss a answer the first try you get 2 more chances to get it right for points. Hard class but thats just anatomy. If you prove you are trying and really care shell round up. She rounded my 87% to an A.
One of the best professors I have ever had. Anatomy is very hard, but Dr. Turner, will help you with anything! Her lectures are not boring because she wants you to succeed. I wish she taught more classes I could take with her. She is passionate about the subject matter, but more passionate about her students understanding and learning the material
Professor Turner was one of the best bio professors ive had. Just show up to class take notes and participate in labs and i can assure you, you will get an A in the class. scratch off Quiz roughly every week or two, one midterm/lab exam then the final/lab exam. Clear study guides, criteria and tons of extra credit opportunity. Shes amazing!!
Dr. Turner is such a sweet lady, and the course (humans & the environment) was pretty straightforward. There was a decent amount of reading/note taking, but the homework load is very reasonable and was helpful in retaining the information/reinforcing what we learned. Im definitely glad I took Dr. Turners class! I learned a lot. :)
I took her BIO103 8-week course. The only benefit is that she provides free texts. Cons: tough grader, the only professor who didn't reply to my emails. I didn't like my experience with her and won't take her classes again.
I looooved having Mrs. Turner as a professor. She truly cared that we understood what she was teaching and her grading methods are the best! 10/10 would recommend her!
Professor Turner is really great. I took her hybrid class where we met once a week. She shows videos, hands out easy worksheets, and blatantly tells you everything you need to know. She is very passionate about biology and animals which make her lectures easy to listen to. She is a fair grader and as long as you pay attention, you will be fine.
Teacher does not give any extra credit and is a heavy grader. Provides minimal to no help. Do not recommend, never been graded a D before....
Love her. Her zoology class was online and in person. Such an easy class if you take lecture notes (the lectures were posted online) and do your class labs. Pre-lab quizzes are very simple. Homework can be very slightly time consuming but if you put even a tiny bit of effort its an easy A. Highly recommend Dr. Turner!
This class wasn't bad. The thing that I really didn't like about this class was the work schedule. The prof. would post work on Monday and expect it on Thursday. So you can't do it on the weekend.
Dr.Turner is by far the best teacher I've had at Harper. She is incredibly nice and understanding if you ask. I took her blended class so online there would be a pre-lab quiz before class and then the class would involve a lab. If you read the textbook and do the homework, you'll have no trouble in the class.
She is a kind teacher. The way she does quizzes and tests and it is completely different from the usual way, however. She is lecture heavy and the only way you can learn is by listening to the lectures. If I were you, I would record her lectures to listen to because she does notes really fast and you can miss something.
A lot of material, studying for hours. I expected much less for that class level, but unfortunately, you will spend a lot of time studying if you want to pass this class. The professor doesn't like any questions, and she will turn you down immediately, so save it for yourself. Take a photo of everything on the counters.
Professor Turner is a great biology teacher. The class has a decent workload, but she provides helpful tools like scratch-off tests and study guides to succeed. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for exam prep alongside the textbook.
She was pretty good, very passionate about her work. Attendance is not mandatory but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. This is a heavy lab class, be ready to see grades drop if you skip... Fair grader but a tough one, no shocker for a blended lab course! Do the work, and you'll do fine.
Dr.Turner's class was pretty easy since you are given a whole week to get everything done. She is pretty, though with worksheets when she grades them. The quizzes, the short paper assignments, and the discussion are very easy. I would take her again.
She is a very good teacher however there are a lot of lectures. We do watch a lot of videos and films to offset the lectures and read about and cover very interesting sustainability topics!
During our emails she was very rude. I would not take her again, I was trying to explain a particular set of circumstances and she acted as if people do not have lives outside of her class. I am not your average 18 year old in college, so feeling spoken to as if I was a freshman in high school will always prevent me from promoting her. Be kinder.
